Wall Street Journal reveals: Prospect Park gets exclusive rights to AMC & OLTL for more than a decade & more details!

Courtesy/ABC

More news and details have emerged late this afternoon from the Wall Street Journal on the licensing deal struck between ABC and Prospect Park which will bring the canceled soaps All My Children and One Life to Live continued life but on an online platform! The article brings to light the length of the exclusive rights, and some preliminary starting points on how Prospect Park is going to deal with getting the cast of actors to sign on, budgets for the production, and how the shows may be available to the consumer and soap fans.  Read below!

According to the WSJ: “The deal gives Prospect Park exclusive rights to the two shows for more than a decade, and pays Disney millions of dollars a year in royalties for as long as the shows are produced, according to people familiar with the terms.

Prospect Park’s move to buy the shows is a gamble on the growing–but still relatively small–world of producing original, scripted content online. Earlier this year, Netflix Inc. struck a lucrative deal to buy exclusive rights to a new TV series starring Kevin Spacey. Other companies including Yahoo Inc. and AOL Inc. are also ramping up their efforts to make original web shows.

Prospect Park says that it aims to keep producing the shows, which currently air hour-long episodes five days a week, at the same “format and length,” although a person familiar with the deal said the production budget would be somewhat lower after subtracting ABC’s royalties.  Prospect Park is just beginning the process of meeting with actors and others involved with the soaps to work out whether they will stay on board, the person added.

Producers could sell the shows as an online subscription to consumers, the person familiar with the plans said. They are also exploring advertising sales and sponsorships or product-placement deals, the person added.”

So after reviewing some of these details, are you optimistic about life in Llanview and Pine Valley? Or, are you feeling a bit hesitant? Let us know!

I am really hopeful about this. I think online soaps will just continue to grow, given the success of some of the current ones. I would hope that many in the cast will continue on with it. OLTL has been phenomenal lately, and I will follow it in whatever format it takes.

Yes I am really hoping this works out and that majority of cast will follow them. As bratty as Starr was I am hoping Hope gives her what she gave her mom she is already starting throwing her stuffed animals at James and now hopefully we will have chance to witness her growing up.

I’m hesitant. Computers slow down, they crash. I just ordered new equipment from Verizon so I can watch a web series easier on my computer. Even the salesman was happy to hear they would be on. But I like the solid reliability of TV. I picture Computer glitches, slow downloading, problems.

But thankyou Prospect Park. I’ll try and watch.

i’m with u, computers are slow and they do crash so if that happens to some1’s computer tey can’t watch tilit’s fixed, plus soo many people don’t have computers and intodays world people can’t afford to buy1, so these soaps will lose alot of viewrs and if they will charge to watch them also people can’t afford that either so will lose even more viewers so i’m affraid the soaps won’t last online, i believe that is what ABC/Disney know’s and what they want to happen

I, too am very hesitant. Especially because a lot of these actors we would love to stay on our soaps have already contracted to go to other soaps.
If I will have to pay (even more than my internet fees) to watch not all of the actors I love. Then, that will be a no to this new idea. I think they are going to show all of us the shows since they started the original unveiling. I already watched amc from it’s unveiling, 1/5/70 and don’t want reruns. I don’t think this can even fly like they say it can. It would be nice, but going to happen, no.

Soap Opera Fans do you know what a Exclusive Right means> a right reserved exclusively by a particular group 2deny others the right to perform the same action or to acquire the same benefit. The Coupon Campaign that is being active now is not going to do any good because other cable companies will not have any rights or say so in doing whatever with the soaps nor the Networks. The two Execs are former execs of Disney!! They dotted their i’s and crossed their T’s. The licensing agreement, brokered by Disney/ABC Domestic Television Group, enables Prospect Park to continue production of All My Children and One Life to Live beyond their life on ABC. So in some crazy way Disney still has some rights to them. Everyone needs to come up with another strategy that will help thousands of soap fans to access the internet and/or find donations to receive computers and not house the soaps. NBC, CBS, or any other NETWORK or satellite or cable companies will not be able to do anything now that these soaps have been sold and contracts are in effect. like the say in show business “it’s a wrap folks”. Live your normal lives. You don’t know what the new technology has in store for what you seek. Stop following something that is useless right now. We got what we wanted and that is somebody buying the soaps. Be happy with that! All the belittlement or harassment from certain people towards soap fans who was fighting this fight too should let it go.. move on from this..

I agree and I know what exclusive rights mean. Why not post what kind of computer equipment is needed and what is the reliability that there won’t be glitches? Directions on how to access them. Can we save them like when we DVR them?

Can i copy your comment and put it on facebook .. people don’t seam to grasp the concept of what Exclusive Right means … I my self want’s to thank PP for saving AMC and OLTL

People – prior to Prospect Park, ABC,as the owner of the intellectual property, had “exclusive rights” to do whatever they wanted with AMC and OLTL and they chose to shut down production of them! Now, they have signed a contract with Prospect Park to give them exclusive rights, which Prospect Park says they will use to KEEP PRODUCING THE SHOWS. Why are so many people so hung up on the term “exclusive rights?” I’m not hearing anyone from PP saying they just bought the exclusive rights to the shows just so they can shelve them. Sounds like the shows now have a chance to continue, where just a few days ago, they were slated to end. So far it all sounds like a good thing.

I must say you never cease to amaze me on your attacks of a particular person and a campaign. You take all this off facebook because most people in the groups have seen what you and others are trying to do. The Coupon campaign was always about more than just two shows. It was all soaps and if it wasn’t a good idea Wall Street Journal wouldn’t have meantioned in the articles, Globe magazine wouldn’t have picked it up and Soaps In Depth ABC wouldn’t have sent it out to their readers. The coupon campaign continues don’t be fooled. Website sudz.tv check it out! I think some people just might be a little on the jealous side=)

I think the concept of “Exclusive Rights” is very simple. I doubt anyone would find challenge with that. What I do find difficult is tying this in with the Cable Coupon Campaign. Where is the connection? I am trying to follow your logic and I just can’t, unless you are implying that only your soaps count? What about the rest of the genre? Do you think it might be a little egocentric expecting that everyone stop the campaign to get a replacement soap channel when Soap Net goes off the air just because your soaps are “safe?” There are four other soaps in jeopardy. There are websoaps that viewers want to see on the air. Last, but certainly not least, there are past soaps that viewers are fighting passionately to bring back. Sorry, there are millions of other viewers to consider besides you. We need an all soaps channel for our shows to be safe from the threat of cancelation.

I think smokeegyrl is correct! I agree with her. Everyone is going to agree to disagree so why viciously attack her just like you did the other post. I think you are just harassing this young lady. Why don’t you just leave this young lady alone, she has the right to her opinion. Smokeegyrl, if you need a lawyer email me, I got a name for you. Me!

Is this a pot/kettle thing?

I just pointed out that it was more than two soaps and her attacks of a certain person. She has a right to her opinion yes, so do I.=) Good luck with your case lol.

SoapestSoapette, Hey Georgette why don’t you do us all a favor and go crawl back under the rock you came out from ok? You all need to just go away this has gotten so old and so tiring had you really wanted to save the soaps you would have worked at it rather than stealing ideas and personally attacking people on a regular basis..Everyone sees you for what you really are and every message has been kept, keep it up and the only ones who will truly need a lawyer will be you!!

Veronica, don’t know who or what you are talking about. But take it to Facebook if you have a problem with me. If you think I am SoapestSoapette, I’m not. I’m using my real name here and this is only my second post, and I made it this evening, not this morning. You can contact me and tell me what I would need a lawyer for, ROFL, please do.

I’m sorry Georgette. I didn’t realize you’re upset because the people on facebook don’t like you. I thought you were upset because you didn’t understand how the Campaign works. I didn’t know your history. I will but out of this.

If it’s so useless Smokeegyrl, then why do you continue to care what we do? Who we follow, and how we live our lives? Sounds to me someone is still a little peeved that a certain “ticket campaign” is garbage and will remain that way. The coupon campaign isn’t just about these soaps it’s about the genre past, present, and future. Deals are made everyday and if there is money to be made Disney will be there they still have the BROADCAST rights. So you go and be happy with what you have and leave the rest of us alone to do the hard work that you and your crew couldn’t handle.

Nailed it Kimberly..Funny Georgette if you’re not soapestsoapette how would you know to come answer me on an old article….this is so beneath all of us that actually work on a daily basis to save these shows for every viewer..we should leave these selfish bon bon eating fans to their own explosive devices while we go do the real work. see you soapers on the front lines!

Veronica, our replies state the same date, July 13, so I would ask why you are answering an old article. I guess I would also have to ask you why you people are seeing me everywhere I’m not and why I am taking up so much space in your heads. People are laughing at Silas Kain for talking about me in his radio show the other night, accusing someone else of being me and working for Disney/ABC or someone. Wrong on all counts. I must be a credible threat to his “movement” if I am getting mentioned this much. That being said, I will continue to call him out and press him to explain the unexplainable- the ridiculous coupon campaign. I understand all you outcasts need a place to feel accepted, but Silas??? Really. Get some self esteem. Get a clue. I think I found you on Facebook (since I am not entirely sure who you are) and messaged you there. So, I will ask you again to please move this discussion and the details of the alleged lawsuit against me there, LOL. Thanks.

Please don’t feel so badly if you can’t understand the Coupon Campaign Georgette. I saw that you became very frustrated on Facebook when you could grasp how it works. No need to get harsh with people. It’s really not that complicated if you just remember a couple major points. I will try to explain and if you are able to understand how it works then maybe you don’t have to get so angry with everyone. All you need to do is write your cable or satellite provider at the top, fill out your name, street, city, state and zip code and mail it to the address on the coupon. The major Cable companies stated that it takes 500,000 people to demonstrate a demand for them to add a channel. That’s why they are sent to a P.O. Box to tally the amount, then distributed to the companies. If it is still complicated for you please visit http://www.sudz.tv for more information and coupons to download!! I hope this finally clears things up for you!!

Hi Cynthia, and thanks for explaining, but I did already understand that part. There are too many other unanswered questions for me to participate or encourage anyone else to. I called Comcast, the #1 cable provider in the US and they said they know nothing about it, read the Sudz.TV website and basically called it nonsense. I was supporting the campaign at one point, I had my own page and had a special section just for this campaign with information and links. I was never angry about the campaign, I was getting a bit miffed that people were calling me selfish and other degrading names for daring to be happy about the Prospect Park deal. I was willing to continue the coupon campaign, but in light of recent events, I am not. Additionally, I am at this point telling people I do not think its a good idea to give out your personal information if the people asking for it won’t be straightforward with you and are bullying and lying about people, like me, who merely ask questions and get rude answers Silas Kain has made a number of false statements about me on both the Internet and radio. I have every reason to know and believe he is a liar and possibly a con man I hope this finally clears things up for you!

You have every reason to believe he is a liar and we have every reason to know you are an imbecile. Without the work that this man has done for this movement we would still be mourning our shows, how dare you try and derail the coupon campaign you are just proving how selfish you are! This movement was never started with only onliners in mind and the ones jumping up and down for joy and telling others to get over it should be ASHAMED of themselves. I feel bad for whomever you messaged Georgette since I am not on Facebook and you don’t know me didn’t your mother ever tell you what happens when you ASSUME? Luckily I don’t look like the fool only you do, I hope the person you messaged reports you to Facebook for harassment.
http://www.sudz.tv Coupons=Tickets to Victory! Forget the detractors and their negative words onward and upwards!

I’m sorry Georgette. I didn’t realize you’re upset because the people on facebook don’t like you. I thought you were upset because you didn’t understand how the Campaign works. I didn’t know your history. I will but out of this.

What about the long time fans that have watched from day one that don’t access to the internet and don’t have a computer? What happens to them? While it is great news that the shows will live on via the internet at the same it’s like a slap in the face to the very loyal long time viewers that this deal will be missing.

i just went and ordered this for my neighbor she is in her 70 and don’t know a think about the internet .. all she has to do get the internet true the phone comp/ or cable and than use this box … Roku XDS Streaming Player i got one it works great with netflix and other internet movies …

I was told by roku and my internet provider, if you have this box, you will need high speed internet. I have standard internet and that is all I can afford. Would love to have netflix, etc. to watch internet on tv. Is there any other way to do this without have high speed? I would love your opinions.

pr197 I just ordered new equipemtn from Verizon where a technician told me streaming of the shows on my computer would go more smoothly. It replaces my current PC Card and is actually cheaper monthly to use. So we’ll see.
In any event, Debbi Morgan (Angie) is moving over to Yand R and other actors you like may go to other soaps so maybe we’ll wind up watching the soaps that are staying on TV too.

Well, while I don’t watch either show anymore I am delighted they will continue. However, I am thinking this won’t last either. The actors will have a lot of demands, Lucci *cough*, and big salaries. Is that something this newbie web space can handle? or will the cast have to be condensed, and stories and writers and crew, be smaller?

In theory it works, both fans and crew get what they want. But in reality, why couldn’t ABC come up with a better campaign. First they gave them the axe after 40 plus yrs, now they sell them to up and coming web moguls?

ABC is owned by Disney, one if not the largest companies in the known world. They also have many divisions and subsidiaries. Such as most satellite channels, and their own satellite carrier, Directv, maybe we have heard of it. Why couldn’t ABC strike a deal with itself and let the soaps run on their other channels? Soapnet for one?

They are so large, they could have gladly kept it on their networks..but they wanted to pass the buck to someone else, and get some money for selling out. And not have to pay, or deal with the demands of either soap.

If I were General Hospital, I would watch my back. Mickey might just stab them too.

I am optimistic about this, and I think the actors would rather take pay cuts then be unemployed. Susan Lucci said in an interview when they were talking about cancellation of AMC before this happened, the actors/actresses took a pay cut so the soap would not be cancelled, as they did not want to be responsible for all the stage, writers and everyone else involved in the production of the show to be unemployed in this bad economy

Leigh, I love your comments! Everything in a nut shell. I don’t have a clue as to how this is all going to turn out like we all want it to.

What about the people without internet access? This is unfair to them! I spend all day on a computer. I want to come home, lay down on my bed, relax and watch my soaps!

Well, Tina Gray, if you want to continue watching AMC and OLTL, you’d better get Internet access at home! Everyone should rejoice that the shows have been saved! I’m sure there are some details left to be worked out and there will undoubtedly be some changes, but that’s to be expected. Personally, I don’t care where I must go to view my beloved OLTL. I’m just grateful that the show has “another life to live” despite the fact that ABC tried to murder it!

If you love your soaps, can’t you pay that fee? I would if I lost GH…

In this day and age, everyone should have a computer and Internet, they are not that expensive. In any case, a true fan will get a computer just to watch. Plus its better than it being gone for good!

There was mention of other outlets such as ipod, cell phones, an internet television set, I do not think we should expect all details to be rock solid right away. I am very excited the stories will go on

Not sure I’m trusting this deal. I’ve lost all faith in ABC/Disney. It’s great that the shows will be airing on line for some but so many people don’t have computers for one reason or another. This means the soaps will be losing alot of it’s fans. The shows really need to be somewhere everyone can view them.

I think the demographic that is going to be hurt the most will be elderly people that have never used computers. I know my mother who is 74 years old does not use a computer except for her online banking. There was mention that it is a possibility that they would air across internet television sets, that may be something worth looking into, although not sure how expensive the sets would be.

I am thrilled at the news and cannot wait to see how this plays out!!!! I follow some shows online, but have not yet followed any soaps online, and I know the details have not been totally worked out yet, but is it likely that in this format, we will have to pay (or possibly purchase a subscription, as mentioned above) to view the shows online? Either way, I am watching, but I was curious how this will work.

How do you think the actors who are returning for the ending such as Thorston Kaye and Cady McLain

The only way I would pay to watch is if Leo, Greenlee and Ryan are part of the webcast..

I think they are attempting to get as many cast members as possible, hopefully they will get advertising dollars so the viewers are not footing the bill

Hooray! This is a fabulous and obvious idea already suggested by most of the fans. All our complaining about the cacellations must have worked. Now, let’s see it come to fruition…..

I do wonder what we as ABC fans did that was not done by NBC and CBS fans with cancellation of other soaps, I know they did produce Passions on direct tv for a little while, but that did not last, I hope same thing does not happen here, the deal that was struck was for 10 years I believe

I get that people don’t want to watch their soaps online, but come on! We ALL wanted someone to save our soaps, and guess what? Someone did! Why complain about HOW they’re going to be aired. Let’s just be happy that the shows are living on –something that we all worked so hard to achieve!

As a former ATWT and GL fan, I’m so happy to see that AMC and OLTL are continuing on –regardless of how.

When ATWT and GL left the air, was there as much outrage by fans as there has been for the ABC soaps

You are talking sense Keri! I’m so grateful! I cant understand why some people are still negative about this! Mayye I’m biased cuz i already watch AMXC online anyway as I dont have a tv set, but for the fans who dont know how to work a computer, I say learn! I dont care if you are 74, times change and you need to keep up, especially if you are a true fan! Long live AMC!

I am thrilled that AMC will live on. I will watch it anywhere I have to. I AM a little skeptical about how well this will succeed but I will take it

Folks without internet just need to get with the times.

And what about international viewers? Canadians have always been supportive of soaps (sometimes far more than Americans do as in the case of Texas, the AW spin-off which was one of our favorite soaps but quickly canceled in the US). We can’t view shows on the US network sites. I think they’d be shooting themselves in the foot if they keep it only to the US. Plus, hasn’t Venice owed a lot of its popularity to the fact that it’s available world-wide? I hope they paid attention to that. I really do want to see the continuing trails of Bianca Montgomery’s love life (or dismal lack thereof.)

I think more and more the computer will hook up to a person’s TV – and the TV will broadcast the show – not the computer. At least that’s what some of my geek friends are already doing…and I’ll be on a mission to do when these two show up in that venue. I think this is great, and certainly a step in the direction of all of TV – and I’m happy for the actors – I hope they all maintain some type of living in this horrid economy … maybe this will be the best thing that ever happened to them.

I have been using my computer to watch television since 2004. In Canada a lot of people do this or use torrents to view tv programs. So, YES this format works for me as I am sure it will for a lot of the Canadian viewers.

further to my own comment, I hope “Prospect Park” will be allowed to stream in Canada, and that Canadian won’t recieve the dreeded “outside of US boarders” message.

Michael can you find out an answer to this for your Canadian supporters?

Wow, they have to pay Disney millions of dollars per year? I’m not sure how they’ll manage to make enough money just to do that let alone turn any kind of profit. But I guess we’ll see. I hope they can do it. I hope they concentrate on hiring good writers. Reducing the cast and the sets will be fine if the stories they do tell are great ones.

As for the uproar about people who don’t have computers not being able to see the soaps online… I don’t think I know anyone who doesn’t have a computer AND access to the internet, and that includes my 90 year old grandfather.

Nervously excited about this !!!
I hope the majority of cast members will stay on with the shows.

most people have internet access, but some are stuck with dial up because of broadband not being available where they are so yea that could be a problem, cuz i seriously doubt you can stream things on a regular modem, there is no way that will work

I also don’t know anyone who is using dial-up for internet access – and that (yet again) includes my 90 year old grandfather who lives on a 40 acre farm in rural Maryland.

I have dial up internet….I live in Illinois on a farm and thats all that is available out here. I am trying to figure out how this is going to work for me and what I need to do to get high speed internet so I can watch OLTL when its online. If this happens to General Hospital and I cant view it, I am simply going to move!

Like many others I’m cautiously THRILLED! Of course I’d prefer for the soaps to remain on TV but if the only way to save them – providing they are going to remain intact (cast, story, quality-wise) – is to watch them on the web I’m okay with that. I’ll get an HDMI cable & stream it to the TV. Since April MANY of us soap fans have insisted we’d be more than willing to pay to keep our soaps alive. Now that Prospect Park has given us this gift well.. Should they decide to charge a subscription fee – I for one am willing to pay. I’m anxiously awaiting the details of this deal and am hoping the casts will remain with their respective shows. We fought for them & the many crew members who would’ve been out of work, just as much as we fought for ourselves as fans. Honestly, ABC/Disney was finished with OLTL & AMC so I feel as though they should’ve just sold them outright rather than this whole royalties deal but for all I know maybe its cheaper for PP this way? Either way thank you Prospect Park!

Well we know some actors have already signed on for other projects such as Debbie Morgan and the girl who plays Kelly on OLTL, both of these actresses are going to Young and Restless, I am betting most will sign on the dotted line, my concern is the actors they brought back to be part of the finale such as Thorsten Kaye and Cady McLain Eva LaRue so it will be interesting to see how it unfolds

I have a question, what is Prospect Park? I have googled it and it says it is a big park I assume like Disneyland?????

I am excited about this if it is a paid subscription hope it is not too expensive, of course would rather they sell advertising

First of all, I have a very, very good computer. That’s not the issue! People! Please! Don’t be fooled by what Disney did! We made too much trouble for them so they did this to shut us up. They think soap fans are morons and that we won’t realize that this is set up to fail. Too many fans are not internet users. This will, again, show false numbers and Disney will use it to say, “See? We told you! The viewership isn’t there.” Coupons, people! Coupons! That is the only way to have a true representation! Don’t settle! Don’t trust Disney!

Tina im still unsure what you are upset about. Are you upset that AMC has been saved? Would you rather it go off the air? Its going to live on. Even if its for a little while, at least its going on past September. Be grateful! As far as saying this is set up for failing, its people with an attitude as yours which will cause this to fail because you cant just accept a blessing that the shows have been saved for now and are coming up with unsubstantiated conspiracy theories.

I am upset because it belongs on television. What about the people who don’t have computers?????? There are older people who have been watching these shows for years and years and don’t have computers. This is unfair and I will not settle just for myself! I am grateful that the actors and crew, hopefully, will still have jobs and that I have the option to watch them somewhere, but what about the other people who will not be able to watch? I don’t trust Disney. They should have released the shows to people who love and respect the genre. Does that clarify why I’m upset??????

Yes, understand why you are upset. I think it is great that you are upset for other people and not just yourself. But you must think of the alternative. It’s either this or the show goes off the air. And I’m sorry, I would rather see it live on than go off. I also do not want the actors and crew, etc to lose their jobs. Which now, at least some of those are saved. I think you are getting upset for a minority of people which do not own computers. This may sound harsh, but it rings true, anyone who does have a computer is really living in the stone ages. Computers have been around for 30 years, why wouldnt someone have one? You have to change with the times. Just as i did, when I was little, cell phones and computers were not around, and now they are, so I have them. Anyway, A true fan will buy one to watch, they are not that expensive. you can get one for 100 to 200 these days. And everyone has access to Internet, whether is be their own house, a relative’s house, the library, on thier cell phone, etc.

Sorry I haven’t answered sooner. Tough week. Collecting prayers for a friend – who once worked for Doug Watson from Another World. Her husband was just diagnosed with pancreatic cancer. Anyway. I have two friends who work in nursing homes. The people there are devastated!!! They all gather during the day to watch their soaps! They don’t have the luxury of changing with the times. That’s why I have to fight for them. Does that make sense?

I really think this is aploy by abc . Think about it they licenced it for only online use . They still own both shows so the shows getting licenced doesnt really mean much I think what abc did was make it so if one or both of their new talk shows fail which come on the chew? ugh fail they can still air one or both soaps which most likely is gona be onelifetolive staying on for one its the networks number one show and is on fire right now story wise an ratings which prove that if you write good shows have talented actors/vets play the parts a crew that works hard to come under budget it all plays out abc has always treated oltl like the stepchild yet is one of the only shows who really utilizes its vets !!! also its the only show that i hear people talk about which makes me realize people are watching them online already asawell as tvo dvr or simply taping them I work for a family buisness that is over 30 yrs old and our customers were coming in an talking about oltl not amc or gh which are good shows they were just ruined by brian fronze anne sweeny disney an head writers who through out history and was able to ruin core charactors abc/disney were making money on all their soaps they wanted to kill them and they almost did Heads should be rolling and believe me one these new talk shows do they will be !!!!! the reason i know this is true ? go to utube an type in bjs death from general hospital an watch all the clips from that story an see how personal and well written gh used to be its liek looking in on someones life liek a fly on the wall it was that good!!!! an then look at an epsode from the last few years depressing fans left these shows because their family (charactors) were no longer on or if they were they were unregonizable i dont watch Y&R but they have stayed number one because we know these characters and most of the same actors are playing them so you can watch y&r 13 yrs ago a then a new one today and its liek seeing an old friend look at amc an gh ugh not so much oltl thankfully is too they use their vets!!! same with b&b days used to but seems to be heading that direction coming sept could it be they are finally listening to the fans ? i just hope its not to late its a genre that started it all it all comes down to soaps wether its csi or desperate housewifes abc/disney are punking us lets call them on it an be sure their new crappy shows do not make it a month dont watch either talk show if you wana save your fav soap wether its amc or oltl or both tune out that hour an the same with katie couric you fans deserve abcs respect after 40 years of you tuning in buying sponsers products an believeing their lies when they said both shows were safe watch your soaps but tune out to the rest of abc except the news of coarse and its not just brian fonz sweeny has her part in this as well the only chance now that the deal is done is that the shows broadcast on abc the deal makes it that no other channel on tv can buy it so keep on abc to stop messing with our american tradition an fire bad writers beg the vets to stay im 33 an would rather watch bobby monica felicia etc then sonny carly an jason so get off your buts an call the abc lines or email write etc do something or dont complain

i think it stinks that they are going on line like that I think they should still be on tv and able to be viewed online if you cant watch at the time they air. I think it is very wrong of them we the fan and buyers of soap products should have there say and I say keep them on tv even if you have to put it on another station. i for one do not watch abc for anything other than my soaps and they can stick disney too I will not be going to there parks again or watching any shows they produce.

No we want our soaps on tv. There are too many people that can’t afford online subscriptions, or that simply put don’t have access to internet usuage or have limited internet use, and what about the elderly people who love the soaps and live in nursing homes and Assisted living communities that don’t have computers at all????!!!!! Has anyone taken into consideration for one moment the thousands of ladies and men that live in these places that watch the soaps and can’t afford the internet?!! I guess not. I am an assisted living director of nursing and I know what kind of budget these people are on. We are also located in rural southern alabama where people are poor. In general it is simply not within the budget of people in our communities to afford subscriptions to online shows on top of what they are already paying for plus sending their children to school or helping to support their grandchildren. I am pleading with
ABC/Disney to put these shows back where they belong on television every day so the normal average person can view these wonderful soaps.

I know too many people who are older and are not into computers. There are people in Nursing Homes across NYC who are devastated over this. Should I discount them as well? Are you saying that they are not true fans? I was outside of the OLTL studio in May. I saw the devastation of the cast and crew first hand. I am very happy that they have hope now. But this decision is not good enough. Not for everyone. I’m sorry Reed – I can’t be that selfish.

Disney does not deserve a million dollars per year in royalties after what they have done to the shows, cast, crew, and fans. I would pay a monthly fee to subscribe, assuming it is reasonable, so I am slightly optimistic.

This is all uncharted territory and we should all be patient and see how it plays out.

I would love to see a pay per view channel devoted to shows like this, charge a nominal access fee and watch like normal, commercials and all.

I would love to see this all work out, but a lot of our favorite actors have already found other jobs.
I for one am very sad to see Gigi on oltl leave.
I just can’t see how the internet will work. I think most of my favorite actors won’t be on the show and without them I can’t watch. I WILL not watch ABC at all after our soaps go off. It is always about the ratings, and money. What about the fans.

I hope the cast of OLTL signs on with Prospect Park ,If they don’t then at least they had a great long run for as long as both shows did. I think it would be cool if netflix would put the shows on there so the fans can tune anytime etc. Aol,Yahoo, etc idk if that would be a good idea maybe Aol since well I use Aol. I’m just hoping for the best out come for the cast, crew and fans

If anything the least they can do is make the SOAPs in to tv seasons and release them on DVD for us to buy

ABC does not deserve royalties, those GREEDY bastards! They must be republicans!

I’m feeling some kind of way about this. Why can’t they just put it on another station on television? I’m certain their ratings will go sky high.

BRING AMC BACK TO TELEVISION PLEASE!!!!

It’s really a great and helpful piece of info. I’m glad that you just shared this helpful information with us. Please keep us up to date like this. Thanks for sharing.

Mark Consuelos Celebrates One-Year Anniversary as Co-Host of ‘Live’ Alongside Kelly Ripa

Today, April 17th marks a full-year since Mark Consuelos (ex-Mateo, All My Children) took over the co-hosting duties of ‘Live” alongside his wife, and longtime co-host, Kelly Ripa (ex-Hayley, All My Children).

Consuelos replaced Ryan Seacrest who are six seasons decided to be back on the west coast full-time. For Consuelos, now having the opportunity to work off of Ripa as co-hosts has been something of adjustment for him, but viewers have been eating it up.

Live with Kelly and Mark has remained the No. 1 entertainment talk show on television over the past year, growing 3% in average total viewers to 2.23M per episode.  It is also the most-watched daytime talk show in the last year in key demos of women 18-49 and women 25-54. All of this, since the real-life marrieds teamed-up.

Speaking with Deadline, Kelly Ripa shared why the two are gelling on-screen, “I do think that there is something very possibly relatable about our relationship. We have disagreements like a normal couple, and we’re not afraid to let them unfold on the air and in front of America, and I think people find a lot of themselves in that.”

Mark weighed in how he has progressed as a host, and what he could improve at, sharing, “I’d like to get better at my interviewing skills. I’d like to get better at reading a teleprompter…I think I’m getting better at throwing to commercial. The other day in the middle of the show as we go to commercial, my sign off was ‘See you guys around.’ I mean, the show wasn’t over. The most obvious thing to say would be, ‘We’ll be back right after this.’ But I just said, ‘See you around.’ So we went to commercial and one of the producers (goes) ‘What was that?’ I don’t know… So for the next few sign offs, as a joke, I’d say ‘See you around.’ We got a kick out of it.”

Meanwhile, Kelly has given huge props to Mark, “I find Mark utterly compelling, really interesting, super funny, and he’s bold in a way like nobody else. He says what’s on his mind. If he’s thinking it, he says it.  I’ve done this a long time and oftentimes people will adjust their natural personalities to pander to what they think the audience wants to hear, and Mark will tell people what he thinks, and he doesn’t care if it’s not a popular opinion. It gives him an edginess that I think is really missing in the landscape today. Everybody’s so afraid to say anything, and Mark is unafraid to say exactly what he’s thinking.”

In a statement, Debra O’Connell, President News Group and Networks, Disney Entertainment shared, We could not be more thrilled with how Mark has seamlessly joined the show family as permanent co-host. His undeniable charisma and his and Kelly’s natural chemistry are evident as they deliver the laughs and smiles to our viewers each morning. We are incredibly proud of how Live has continued to evolve and that the audience is responding so enthusiastically.”

So, do you think Mark Consuelos is the best co-host his wife Kelly Ripa has ever had on ‘Live’? How would you say he is doing as co-host after one full year on the job? Comment below.
