What Did You Think Of How Steve Burton Was Written-Off General Hospital?

Today for all intent and purposes was the given final airdate and episode of Steve Burton’s more than two decade run as Jason Morgan on General Hospital!

So how did it all play out?  Duke (Ian Buchanan) who clearly can’t be our Duke, but an imposter, unless he’s gone totally insane, went gun-happy!  Shooting Jason in the back, and then pushing him in the waters of the docks, Duke tells Jason, “You shouldn’t have interfered!” Meanwhile, Duke also shoots poor mob accountant Bernie and kills him to keep him quiet!  He then turns his rage on Joe Jr. (who has already been shot by Jason), and almost plugs him too, but Joe Jr. (Richard Steinmetz) escapes to Tracy Q’s, where he wants to see his son Trey (Erik Valdez) one last time before he dies, and not before he misleads his son in to believing Sonny is responsible for his shooting.

Sonny (Maurice Benard) arrives at the pier after a phone call from a dying Bernie who tells him Jason was shot and is in the harbor!  Sonny tries to go after Jason in the cold deep waters, but can’t find him.  Later, a police dive and rescue squad arrive on the crime scene and deduce that Jason was dragged out further by the current of the waters.  At the end of the episode, Sonny comes to tell Sam (Kelly Monaco) the news on Jason!

So soapers, how do you feel about the way the powers-that-be are writing off Jason?  Are you giving it thus far a thumbs up, because it can be left open-ended, in case Steve Burton ever decides to return to GH? Or, are you thus far giving it a thumbs down, since it looks like the body will not be found?  Or, do you feel you need to see how the rest of the week plays out to give it a proper assessment?  Weigh-in!

My friends and I were talking about how it seemed rather symbolic that Jason was shot in the back and kicked off the pier into the water. Kind of like what we feel has been done to us as GH only fans. Steve Burton deserved a much better story after giving 21 years to this show and the Jason fans deserved better too. But I guess only the OLTL characters matter now. JMO

Bitter much? One Live To Live characters have been woven into the GH tapestry just as any new characters would be….and…many fans of OLTL have been loyal viewers of GH as well. I’ve watched and loved both for years. GH was tanking for a while. One of the reasons for the shock that OLTL was given the ax was because it was doing better than GH. Grow up…it’s the best of “both worlds.”

Where is the “like” button for this? I am also and have been a OLTL AND GH fan and think the show is much better with the addition of the OLTL people. GH was beginning to get pretty boring before they moved these characters over. They have given GH a new life which was much needed.

To answer the original question, I will have to see how the week plays out, but right now I am not happy with what they did with Jason.

I don’t think it’s all abut the OLTL characters at all! Story lines are laid out months in advance. STEVE deciding to leave when he did caused the writers to come up with something in a limited amount of time. Re-work the story line to include who/what is prevalant on the canvas today. I am going to miss Steve B and Jason. The whole he is living is huge. I think it’s so funny how ppl are still all up in arms about 3 characters getting a contract w GH. What if the 3 characters were brand new, that would be OK? I think the 3 they have on have brought layers to the existing characters. Anyone who thinks Roger H as ‘Todd’ isn’t brilliant must be watching a different show? I had stopped watching OLTL for MANY years, just didn’t have the time. But when it was announced that the show was ending I wached the last 9 mos or so. They are talented actors who uprooted their lives & their families lives to move to CA for a job.

GH hasn’t been this good in I can’t recall how long! The new PTB have done an amazing job paying homage to the past., and a someone whohas watched GH for 36 yrs, it’s great! Was Jasons exit a bit rushed, yes. But overall I give GH a standing O!

@Gazoo987….Since we all knew that the negotiations were not going well between Steve and ABC/Frank at least a month before Steve made his final decision in August, why didn’t RC have time to craft a better exit story? I’ve read that the November scripts were pulled in September to write in AJ/Sean K., so while TPTB may have had limited time, it’s not like they didn’t have advanced notice. And I’m sorry if it offends anyone, but I do think this story symbolizes the way Frank and Ron feel about General Hospital and it’s characters. As to the OLTL situation, I absolutely would have felt differently if the actors were brought in as new characters. I loved Roger H. on OLTL and ATWT, and yes, he is brilliant as an actor. My problem is that Carly’s story is about Todd, the baby switch story was about Todd and John as much as Sam and Jason, Sam’s story is now about John, and we never see Michael without Starr. It’s not about the number of characters from another show, it’s about the GH characters playing supporting roles to them ON General Hospital.

@rebecca…, I’m not “bitter” and find it amusing when having an opposing opinion is met with a “grow up” comment. I watched and enjoyed OLTL almost as long as GH, over forty years. I liked both shows for what they were, but they were vastly different in both the stories and tone. GH was floundering a little, yes, but that could have been fixed with good, competent writing, without changing the entire fabric of the show, or attempting to merge two soaps. That is just my opinion.

We were asked what we thought of how Jason was written off and I posted my opinion about it, maybe I should have left out the OLTL comment, so I apologize to Michael Fairman for that.

I love Jason’s role in GH. It is not going to be the same without him. He made the show very interesting. They should bring him back just like they bring his dead brother back, just much faster. He belongs to the show that is all.

Maybe this is where the saying ‘Don’t look a gift horse in the mouth’ comes in. AMC and OLTL are gone for good. GH was teetering on the edge of cancellation too for a LONG time…GH may STILL be in danger of cancellation….but the ratings have gone up since 3 OLTL characters joined GH…Todd, Starr and John. (Blair and Tea pop in here and there and who knows if we will see Tea again now that the baby storyline has ended) This is a win-win situation for everyone…the OLTL fans still get a piece of their beloved show, the GH fans have new , fresh storylines with the addition of the OLTL people AND ratings have gone UP which will hopefully keep GH on the air. For YEARS GH has basically been the Sonny Corinthos/mobster soap opera…and while I like Sonny, it’s WAY past time the show (IMO) puts other characters front and center. GH is back to being the kick butt, must see soap again thanks to all of the changes with the OLTL characters, new head writers for the show, etc. It’s been than it’s been in a LONG time and the OLTL people are part of that reason! And really…3 OLTL characters have joined GH full time…that HARDLY makes GH the new OLTL show!

        October 25, 2012 at 8:46 am

Unless you and some of the others who claim to be so knowledgeable about GH’s status actually work for ABC and are privy to inside discussions, I have no reason to respond to claims about cancellation, because it’s just speculation on your part and mine too. The ratings have increased about 100,000 from GH’s all time lows last year in September/October, so that’s no great increase by adding OLTL viewers.

A win-win situation would be if OLTL were back on the air and GH was being written well without adding stories and characters from another show. I was a GH viewer, and I don’t feel like I’ve won anything, because I lost the show I loved, including the character of Jason. I agree that there was too much focus on the mob, and that the stories were too centered on Sonny. But trading in the Sonny focus for Todd and John didn’t help GH, IMO. And the fact that nothing is taken seriously on this show anymore is not GH to me. DID, man-rape, baby switches, and now death, are all being treated as sight gags and jokes. And that’s no win for any soap fan who now has to be ashamed of watching a show like General Hospital has become. That is why the entire genre is in trouble, and why people make fun of soap viewers. But this is just my opinion, I’m not trying to speak for others.

I think they did a good job writing Jason off. It truly does leave the door open for his return especially because there was no body found yet. And no one every truly dies on a soap. I am a fan of both show OLTL and GH. When is it evey going to become a unite front to save the one and only soap left? I think the writers are doing an awesome job as they did on OLTL..Come on GH fans stand behind the new regime and give them a chance. They are trying to save “your ” soap. I would love to see OLTL back on the air and truly love the crossovers. The only thing I didn’t like is Joe Jr. blaming Sonny. I would have like to seen the Joe Jr. storyline play out.

        October 23, 2012 at 3:32 pm

Maybe that is some of the problem, many General Hospital fans feel as if it is not their soap anymore. Some of the characters of General Hospital are never seen/or playing supporting role to One Life To Live stars. Michael has been dumbed down since Starr came on the show. When Robin was assume to be dead all we saw was Starr and her grieving over Cole and Hope. What about the once in a week we see Patrick. John and Todd all over the place. Of course this makes One Life To Live fans happy, they get to see the characters they love watching, and some General Hospital fans who thought the show was boring, but what about the other fans of General Hospital who hardly ever she the characters they love. If any General Hospital fans who looked at One Life To Live as I did for years, the writers are recycleing these stories on GH.
Don’t blame some GH fans for being unhappy. I loved One Life To Live but the writing didn’t save my soap and I understand how some GH fans feel. I feel that the writers should write stories for other characters on this show and not the same 7 or 8 people.
I will miss Steve Burton/Jason. I agree he is not dead and one day will be back.
I had no problem with his exit story because he was a Mobster. This is what can happen when you are in the MOB.

Jason(Steve Burton) needs to come back if only long enough for him to know that the baby is his!! Just for that brief time would be excellent. He can then be gone on some kind of case? The writers & producers surely do not know what they have done letting him go. He was the one bright spot in the show & not to mention, the best looking. Enough of OLTL cast offs on GH!!!!!

I did not like it much. I hope the writers keep it open in case he decides to return. It is too sad for him to be dead after getting the baby back. He did not even find out he was the true father!! Too bad Joe was still lying abiut Sonny. Bad end.

I like the fact that there may be a possibility that SB can return….Kudos to GH for giving ths veteran actor a decent exit with the option of returning. Very unlike a soap I will not mention that has recently booted off a vet and given him a lame and disrespectful exit. I am not a fan of this actor, just think he deserved better.

It was a believable thing to have happen. Haven’t we all wondered, a million times and even vented about it in this forum, how in the world Jason and Sonny are -still- alive?! Completely logical and feeds into other major story lines. I’m good with it. What I’m leery of, is a depressing couple of weeks coming up. Ugh.

Everything was well done UP to shooting Jason and him sliding into the water. That was a cheesy, easy out for the wtiters but I expected no less! Frank was unhappy at Steve’s decision to quit and lives in hope to lure him back.

    • SZima

      October 23, 2012 at 5:31 am

If Frank is hoping to “lure” Steve back, shooting him in the back and unceremoniously dumping him in the harbor is NOT the way to do it.

I agree Steve saw the handwriting on the wall months ago when these two fric and frac who are turning G.H. into one life to kill. I was a fan of One life for over 43 years day 1 until its murder that fateful day. . Many G.H.characters/actors are getting kicked out of the way for the like of Roger H. Kristen Alderson. Micheal Easton, Kassie De pavia Anfd florencia. And now with the foamimg at the mouth Valenti wanting Jerry ver dorn to come and Melissa Archer. Doesn’t matter that a beloved actor and life long character John Ingle/Edward has died. they’llpush him into the river along with JAson. Its an utter slap to all G.H. fans who jhave stayed withthis show since day 1 .In july I coyldn’t stand the total disrespect of a beloeved soap I watched over 46 ,being tossed away like yesterday’s trashi favor of One life to live characters and their fans. Its like let’s get rid of G.H. anbd give us back our soap. That has beent he staple of mentality since Jan. Case in Point Kate/Connie redo of the Tess thing exact copy baby switching again. These aren’t G.H. history thats one life’s and to rucify G.H. and her fans because one life was canceled is well down right disgusting and even Fric and frac said its going to be another One life. Well many G.H. fans are now leaving and are writing, calling.emailing A.B.C.D. to cancel G.H. Because its no longer G.H, are characters are just tossed in helter skelter to make sure her “trueFans” don’t leave . well that ship has sailed. All I can say is Fric and frac have murdered another soap. All the innuendos that One lifer invaders saved our show is allot of baloney . If A.B.C.D. wants to cancel the show they will with or with out the invaders and fric and frac. The only reason they didn’t was they had such flack when they canceled one life and didn’t want it again so soon. I wish they had the balls to do it. Because its no longer G.H its One life to Kill (penned byI ngo Rademacher) . So take that to bank .

I’m torn on Steve Burton’s exit. I didn’t like it because it gave us no chance to really watch him give one of his stellar dramatic performances and was anti climatic. On the other hand I realize it had to be that way to give him a way back if he chose to return. Either way, I’ll miss Steve Burton and GH won’t be the same without him.

        October 23, 2012 at 2:24 pm

Wow, hateful. I think Ron and Frank have done an incredible job with GH. I give them a lot of credit for breathing life into the soap I’ve always loved. Always thought it was much better than OLTL and AMC, and now it is freakin unbelievable – Must see TV!!
Sad about Jason not getting more airtime to die, but like the idea that he could come back some day. Respect Steve Burton’s decision, but hope he does return later on. However the next few weeks and the sorrow and aftermath of his disappearance is going to be emotional enough, specially with baby now. After today and Sam’s discovery, we’ll see how far it goes. Lots of people have lived after falling into, being blown up, etc. that harbor. Water must have magical powers. Oh, BTW, I adore how Ron and Frank have intertwined and woven the OLTL characters into the show. It needed more good characters besides the same ones over and over again. Now there are no less than four or five storylines going on at any one time. It keeps things moving and although some s/l’s get long and weary, they are almost All good!!

  9. Jess

    October 22, 2012 at 11:58 pm

It was horrible! First they rush putting Sam/Jason back together in a way that makes zero sense. Then he just gets shot and kicked into the harbor while Bernie (who I actually don’t mind. The actor has put in years and played two characters) and Joe Junior get long drawn out death scenes. It really felt like Cartini are mad he decided to leave so they decided to write/produce this dreck to punish him. But I don’t know what I expected from writers that clearly can only recycle the same few storylines. The only good thing about this is that there’s no body so far so he can always come back.

  10. mariella

    October 23, 2012 at 12:56 am

I didn’t like it. It was a cheesy way of a great character to end. I wish the writers could of come up with a more respectful ending than shooting him in the back.

    • Allison

      October 23, 2012 at 2:27 pm

Respectful!? He was a mobster for heavens’ sake! Being shot in the back is perfect! Nobody can ID his killer and when all the forensics are done and bullets are pulled out, they’ll have a murderer running loose and won’t know who it is! This is Classic soap stuff!!!

The only thing I can say at this point in the week is that though poorly written,at least it does leave the door open! I too consider “Duke” an impostor and considering they had him “do away with Stone Cold” I dislike him even more then I did on Friday!

That is the only disappointing thing for me that we didn’t get to see and of course more JaSam family scenes with their son.

Someone explain to me why RC/FV were so mean in the first place and didn’t give us any payoff at the time the baby was born?

It just didn’t seem realistic that Jason would turn his back in that situation, he is too smart for that and then boom, he is down and gone. I think we would of liked a Sam and Jason goodbye scene, not lost in the water again. It needed a more meaty story line, they had way enough time to do that so Sonny also could be involved more. But glad Steve is moving on, as we will too.

    • Allison

      October 23, 2012 at 2:31 pm

No, a Sam and Jason goodbye scene would have been too painful. Thought his exit was appropriate since he was an “enforcer”.

  19. jenny

    October 23, 2012 at 5:12 am

A bit distasteful but necessary. It would have been nice to have a slow motion of Jason falling to the dock, remembering all the people he has loved (and not just Sam or Carly LOL) then he fell into the water.

But at least no body is being found so we all know if SB changes his mind and returns to GH, the door is wide open.

I was underwhelmed with the write-off. Not well done at all and very disrespectful of a long-term character.

Of course they could show a scene in a few days, ala Robin Scorpio, that he is still alive “somewhere” so the door would be open for a return, but I really don’t care to be reading online, daily, about “when is Jason coming back?” either.

I thought it was crapy that while he is being written off dying they are having John and Sam talking about their non in my opinion connection friend or whatever talk and I’m not even a Jasam fan I am indifferent to pairings on GH I was a OLtl viewer only watched GH on the side but any long term character/pairing deserves better. I thought the John Sam Convo over shadowed it . On a side note WTH is up with the Natalie line she wasn’t about money or johns job. RC/FV need to get it together this is just crap to make these fan bases bitter to create their one . I don’t see yesturday a epi is going to help ratings those fans have long bitter memories

It was ok, but I was hoping more dramatic and sad. Knowing he could easliy come back did not make it sad. Now Robin’s death was very sad, mostly because of the actors that mourned her.

I saw let’s see how the week plays out. But I think they should have made the Sam and Jason and Danny reunion more emotional

claudia you are so right, steve burton should have been given a better send off
very disappointed with the whole storytline and also feel like

sonny (maurice benard) should have been more involved with the whole ending
of jason storyline, and duke do not like him and when possible will not look
      at him anytime

and cannot wait for SONNY TO GET ON DUKE LAVERY i will be able to

Classic “He isn’t dead, he’ll wash up somewhere and be nursed back to health by a kindly Sasquatch,” type of write-off. He’ll probably stroll back into town with fresh black tee and jeans with not a hair out of place in a few months. Though I’d love it if he’d ditch the out-of-date hair style and wear something other than black – maybe express his inner surfer dude? I’d love it even more if he’d been eaten by a shark, never to return, since I haven’t liked the saintly hit man who only kills people who REALLY deserve it, for years.

I’m not happy with this ending at all. SB was willing to give them a few more weeks and they turned it down. We as fans deserved seeing Jason and Sam with their baby and happy before they left and not for just one episode. Come on folks someone made the wrong decision here.
With all the secrets Bernie aluded too Jason could have for now just gone undercover to find out what was going on. That would have given Sam a while to enjoy her Baby without having to grieve for Jason. I know it’s just a soap but one episode of happiness doesn’t cut it.

he disrespected his fan base how? Because he chose to leave the show? We all leave jobs at some point and I’d say giving 21 years to GH is plenty. He didn’t disrespect anyone, he’s moving on. It’s called “life.”

I am happy there is the opening for Jason to return (whether Steve Burton or another) as we all know the waters of Port Charles harbor have magical properties and no one seems to die in there. 🙂
BUT, I really think they could have given us a bit more. His reunion with Sam was very short and we were not able to truly enjoy it.

I was surprised how quick it was. As Steve Burton said, the door has been left open and he wants time to enjoy his family now. Well deserved after 21 years I say! There will always be some things we dislike in soaps, but to support and move on and look to the next fun story is key. I am intrigued about the “arc” the GH writers have in store as all is not what it seems I keep hearing. Duke..AJ..this is very interesting. Keep hope GH fans its gonna be a great ride…and I am sure Steve will come again someday!

As for the OLTL characters? if it wasn’t for them i honestly wouldn’t be watching , they have been a great addition, especially for those of us who watched OLTL !

  33. Robert in Jersey City

    October 23, 2012 at 7:39 am

It was a perfect soap exit. Bad guy gets killed doing what he does then there’s no body. We’ll see Jason again in a few years. He’s a superhero. He swam, bleeding out with amnesia to an island where Erica Kane nursed him back to health. It was quick and simple, a band aid ripped off.

GH is off the hook now, great show. These guys clearly worshiped these shows as kids like we did and are treating GH with all the memory and love they can. Old and new characters. Having characters exit with grace.

Now, can we gloat about the latest ABC disaster? Katie’s bombing. She’s doing as bad as Magic Johnson did in the 90s. Too bad she still gets paid the budget of two of our soaps.

    • SARAH

Katie show gets our beloved soaps budget…ABC can afford the money for her failing show…I knew this would happen..That her show would bomb like many of her
other shows did..Sonny will get Duke and put him in his place…I don’t care for Duke….They could have done it a different way….Duke will pay dearly for shooting
Jason in the back…Sonny will make sure of that…Anna has her doubts about Duke. Jason will be back someday. That’s what I think.

It’s what I predicted it would be. I think it leaves it open-ended for Steve to return later, if he wants to. I don’t see how else you can write the exit of one half of a show’s significant couple other than by death separating them. Would “Jason” have left “Sam and Danny” for any reason after just getting them back in his life? Sending “Jason” off on a mission for “Sonny” would only have lasted for a few believable weeks. This s/l gives them more time.

I dispise this “Duke” character. I hope the long-time GH fans are right and that this isn’t the real “Duke”.

AS for “Joe” saying it was “Sonny” who shot him, I don’t like it, but it adds so much more drama for so many more charaters (and is true to “Joe” wanting to “get” “Sonny”).

I am happy that the storyline played out leaving it open for Jason/Steve Burton to return, if he chooses to (but it would have been foolish not to do that). As for the final scene, I was not a big fan of his being shot in the back and being dumped into the harbor (which was so obviously coming). I felt that someone with Jason’s “expertise” in his craft, would never have turned his back on the entire scene, he would have gone on the other side of Bernie, with his back to the wall, as opposed to leaving himself exposed. On the other hand, I did like the fact that Sonny went right into the harbor looking for him, which puts the human sentiment (and their friendship) into the dark side of the mob. I certainly hope they give Jason due respect by showing all of those close to him grieving (Sam, Carly, Sonny, Michael, Monica and Spinelli to name a few) at the loss of him, and celebrating his life. He was a very integral part of many storylines.

My point wasnt HOW Jason slid in the water, but that he ended sliding in rhe water. We should have had at least a week of reunited scences with Sam and his son, learning the truth about the paternity. And then the family leaving! After all Kelly wants to do other things, look at all the time she is spending on Dancing With The Stars! The writers had ample time to write a good exit s/l. A week and a script can be written. It isnt rocket science!

    • Elhu

      October 23, 2012 at 10:52 am

While I would love to have seen Sam, Jason and the baby ride off into the sunset together, I do not necessarily agree that Sam/Kelly Monaco has to leave the canvas, because Steve Burton wanted to exist. There is still plenty of story to tell with her character going in other directions. But I totally agree that the biggest injustice to this storyline is that Jason did not find out that the baby was his prior to his leaving. From the minute we all heard about Steve Burton’s departure on this website, that was what I had hoped most of all, that he would find out that the baby was his. Missing those beautiful baby blue eyes fill up with tears of pride and joy, as he and Sam together find out, to me, is a bad decision. I understand that it can now be used as a source of comfort for Sam to be told and know she still has a part of Jason, but imo, I would have loved both of them to find out happily together.

      • Kat

        October 24, 2012 at 12:49 am

I think, and this might be wrong BUT I think that’s also leaving the door open so Jason/Steve has storylines when and if he comes back. When he comes back, he gets to find out that he’s a father, and he gets to learn little things. I wasn’t happy with the ending just because like many other fans I wished that we could have spent more time with the family, seen more scenes such as with Carly, and Sonny but at the same time…I think we got that in a way. Sonny and Jason talked and gave each other advice, Jason gave Carly the support that she needed as she did the same, and Sam and Jason…Unlike other couples we didn’t need a sexy scene or lovely dovey…they were together and it was natural. I hope Steve comes back, and if not steve than someone who can play the role of Jason. Might not be perfect, Might make us cringe BUT Maybe, just maybe we’ll be able to sit back and go: Yay the story can continue.

So they had to “kill” another Quartermaine legacy character at the same time as the patriarch Edward? How about a novel idea…Jason just moves away!! Or goes into hiding? These presumed death storylines have watered down dramatic impact to the point it is almost obsolete. I love Steve Burton but have hated the character of Jason since he woke up in 1996 as a brain damaged murderer. I thought it was a plot twist that would last 6 months…maybe a year. The fact that it went on for 16 years has done tremendous damage to the fabric.of this show. The powers that be at the soaps CLAIM to listen to what the fans want…but then they deliver the exact opposite! Upon taking over in February…the fans were loud and clear aboit what they wanted from Ron and Frank and what would save their GH. Fans wanted less Sonny. We got more Sonny than ever. Fans wanted the mob to go away. We have gotten more mob than before. Fans said no more.dead babies or baby switches…we got more.dead babies and a baby switch. Fans said bring back the fun and romance…there is no fun and no romance. Fans said bring back favourites we know and love. They bring back Holly and Robert for a few pointless episodes. When you REALLY look at it, this regime is doing NOTHING different than Phelps and Guza!! It is STILL about mobsters and the women who sleep with them. I had such high hopes for this regime. The show is as dark and misogynistic as it ever was under Guza’s pen. I don’t understand why the fans are raving about the new GH. It is the same.old thing.

      October 23, 2012 at 10:02 am

Couldn’t agree more! I too am sick of the mob, sick of Sonny and sick of mobster Jason. I really liked Steve Burton as a doctor-in-the-making Quartermaine. Each time Jason Morgan got a head injury I had hoped that Jason Quartermaine would wake up. I’ve only closely followed 2 soaps through the years – GH and OLTL – and had it been up to me, I would rather have seen GH cancelled. Throughout the GH mob years I’ve always rooted for the other mobsters to kill Sonny and Jason; alas the Alcazars to Faith Roscoe to the Zaccharas have all failed. It would be great if Duke Lavery could succeed – but Jason isn’t even dead; even if they find a lifeless body, Jason won’t be dead and sadly someday will return to Port Charles. I am happy that the OLTL characters have come to GH – we need many many more Llanview residents to move to Port Charles.

I hadn’t thought about the loss of another Q character… but you are right! I wouldn’t mind if when Jason comes back he comes back as Jason Q. That could be a very fun arc for them. I would miss the Jason M relationships… like with Spinelli and Carly. FV and RC consider when Steve wants to come back to have him be Jason Q and tell him his son is his!

    • Troy Turner

      October 23, 2012 at 1:57 pm

First of all, it was Steve’s choice to leave. Next, John Ingle is dead, that just hasn’t caught up in the script yet to where Edward will die as well-so noone “killed off” Edward. And Steve himself said in TV Guide that he’s open to a return if the situation calls for it-I’m just hoping that his return isn’t attached to a cancellation notice. All you whiners and crybabies need to shut up and watch GH like good little children-I’m sick of it

      • Kat

        October 24, 2012 at 12:52 am

        >.> Can I get a cookie if I watch? I have to agree blaming a producer for John Ingle not being the show anymore is like blaming the weather man for not being able to go to the beach ’cause it’s raining. Steve will hopefully return once he gets his well deserved break and sorry unless John Ingle decides to come back as a zombie (Which would make for a good soap episode), or they get someone to play his character….they have to write it in the script and figure out how to tell another twist.

      • DidjaNoit

        October 24, 2012 at 7:35 am

@Troy T….Oh, you mean the same way the whiners and crybabies did during the Guza years? It’s interesting that so many who find it necessary to call others names for voicing disapproval of Frank and Ron’s vision of GH, are the same ones who say they stopped watching GH when the mob stories began. Yet the fans who don’t like what’s on the air now are just haters? How about the whiners and crybabies who can’t seem to tolerate people disagreeing with them, just shut up, watch the show, and stop trying to berate and bully others on this site?

Does Anna not count as a beloved character? What about Felicia? Or Duke Lavery? I say give Duke’s story a chance to see where it goes.

I agree they messed up Holly and Robert’s returns BIG time, but Heather Webber has been amazingly sadistic.

Writers and producers are not miracle workers. They do the best they can and it takes time to get rid of the mob just as it did to create it.

  44. Christine

    October 23, 2012 at 9:29 am

I would rather his “death” be like JASON BOURNE’s wherein we see him shot, but then swim away. It would have been a good comparison.

As for Duke, I believe he is the real deal, but obviously he is one of the victim’s of that mind control rumor that is going around – probably due to Helena and/or Faison.

    • Kat

      October 24, 2012 at 12:54 am

But than the question would be why didn’t Jason come back for Sam and Danny? What would keep him away? October 25, 2012 at 10:23 am

That’s rude Christy Hitchings because we “G.H. fans disagree with how “Jason” went out. Wow talk about self serving know it all. I was a 46 year fan more than most of the posters here , So When Steve decided tol eave he saw the handwriting allot of G.H. fans did. The total rewrite of G.H. has been in effect since Jan this was what Fric and frac had planned to kill G.H. and turn it into On life to Kill.Isn’t enough that they murdered One life so they have to murder G.H. And for the love all stop calling posters “haters”: because we don’t see our G.H. lie you do. The invasion has no place on G.H. bringt hem inas new ? OK I can accept that but they brought them in as their characters from a defunct soap. To finish their god awful stories . And look how that turned out more days of endless crap of Starr and nd her god awful scenes when vet actress Kim MC got Diddly squat and the bull *** of Robert Scorpio? please this character and actor deserved more. and then rerun audacity of mimicking the D.I.D. think with that horrible Kate/Connie (sorry the actress isn’t all that and a bag of chips) the baby switch.heather all stupid now the murder of Jason by Duke and then added this stupid Joe and Try please its utter garbage . I agree maybe Guza over did with Mob stories but they brought in the fans of the show. Guza had his bad stories but he had award winning stories, characters ans actors. Has these 2 Fric and Frac won one dang thing? yep how to murder a soap I’ll give that to their name and their hell bent on doing it to G.H. and if these cross over fans want their show back then get on the horn and have G.H. canceled an give us our swan song. Because since Jan this hasn’t been G.H. its been how many more invaders they can toss onto G.H. and its apparent now with Steve gone and john Ingle a beloved actor and his character has died thes inept heartless fric and frac are going to have Jerry ver Dorn come on G.H.a and then in Jan Melissa Archer? That is a fact that Frac is foaming at the mouth to get her. So how many of G.H.characters/actors will be tossed under the bus? I see eventually the whole crew . So If you want your frigging defunct show back then write A.B.C.D and let us go out with dignity .Cause right now its a huge Disaster and a nightmare .

This seemed like such an obvious open-ended “death” to allow the character to return when and if Steve Burton decides to come back. I don’t fault the writers much since Steve Burton himself surprised them with his decision to leave rather abruptly. Several actors have commented on how storylines had to be changed to accomodate that.

Fans of his, and of Jason and Sam, of course feel cheated. I know I would if I were one of them. But I bet, if the show lasts, this isn’t the last you’ll see of either the actor or the character.

Thumbs way DOWN!!! Really a bad ending to my favorite actor and character on the show!!! Shame on FV and RC! They must not like Steve or the Jason character that they did this ending this way. I would rather have seen stupid Duke have him locked up somewhere than to shoot him n the back and dump him in the pier. Shades of Jerry Jax and it’s fitting for a villian.. but for a beloved character who just got his wife and son back… shame on them! Just watched the promo… Sean Kanan had better not be coming back as Jason! Steve Burton… please come back after you have a bit of time off… we love you in this role!

      October 24, 2012 at 12:57 am

I think it made a impact that Duke pushed him in, It gave us a reason to actually hate the character and want Sonny to go after him, or even Sam for that matter. Think about it, Duke hasn’t really done anything that made our blood boil and go: Someone needs to kill him!!!! I think that’s exactly what they did.

One last thought…when they do bring the character of Jason back he should have his memory return and come back as Jason Q. Not this one note, non emotional mobster Stone Cold. He sucks and it limited the actors range. Writers can’t rely on mob sl all of the frackin time!!

Duke is my HERO!!!!! Shooting a mob enforcer in the
back and kicking him in the water….RC/FV gave the
wannabe Tony Montana a Scarface ending….shot in
the back floating face down in water….Heck yeah, Duke
is my HERO 4 giving Jason the farewell fitting for a man
who choose the mob as a way of life…. Even though the
past decade he was portrayed as a mob city cop and savior
of the universe Teflon St Jasus…Duke the original mob guy
    deserve a medal.

The very supportive fans, of GH are very disappointed. But I personally think, is that the way that Jason should have, been written off would have been after a funeral in NOVEMBER. FOR THE PATRICH OF THE SHOW. EDWARD. He should not have been, shot. But this way felt, to rushed. Of being shot and pushed off the dock. By DUKE: Which I’m disliked by. The most. I’m done with Duke.

They left it open so that if Steve decides to come back to the show, he can. I like that because I think he will come back.

i too am somewhat disappointed that Jason had to die without knowing the baby s true paternity. i will miss him but glad there s an opprotunity for him to possibly come back. The one i wish they would get rid of is Anna. Never have been able to stand her! She is one of theUGLIEST women I have ever seen and her superwoman act has got to go !

For now it’s okay because it fits story line, but long term, without Steve Burton, it’s a soap opera miss take! GH may have seen the ratings up because of the news about Burton leaving and AJ’s return, but the show is going to tank!!! That is one actor GH should have negotiated better terms with Steve and created a better story lines than what he was given. GH story lines have be come weak. What on earth were they doing keeping Sam and Jason so distant and leaving the paternity of Danny so stretched out. It’s going to be too predictable to match Sam up with AJ(gag) or McBain. Is it too much to ask to Have Sam happy and with Jason. Make Sam and Jason solid. Rebecca Hurst, is the actress that should be let go. The character has always been weak and really there is no purpose for her, there really hasn’t been for while. Writers need to take care of the show. It’s a huge gamble, the weak story lines, all the blasts from the past, no Steve, do I need to continue? The writers need to create better story lines for Kelly Monoco, she is a fabulous actor, she is woman role model. Her character shows tenacity, strength, boldness, courage all the while embracing her femininity, maternal, side and independence, not too mention she is just cool with her own laid back style. Sam is the. Female version of Jason, now that is a story line, she becomes the hit woman (LOL).Really just get Steve and Sam back together on GH, please!!!!!!!!

This show is going to tank and not because Steve left, but because these dimwitted writers cant write award winning material to hold us fans to save their lives!

    • Tina

      October 25, 2012 at 4:16 pm

I think the show should get rid of Kelly Monoco. If she pulls her face one more time as an if that is acting I will scream. I see the no purspose for the character of Sam. I hate when I have to turn my TV up as loud as it can go to hear and understand what her character is saying. Then I realize it’s nothing but the same ole Jason Jason, John John, Jason Jason, John John.

Couldn’t agree more. Spammie never fit in but B.F. and Guza were so gobsmacked by her twins they forced this square peg into a round hole by making her Alexis’ daughter. Guess what? I still don’t believe they are mother and daughter. JAZZ HANDS AIN’T ACTING. Peace out!

I know they had to give him a exit story to keep the possibility of SB returning to the show (or another actor who would play Jason) but I think they took the easy way out. Jerry, Jacks, etc and who knows how many others over the year went into the harbor and were presumed dead. Wish they would have found a different way to send him off….

This was a pathetic send off to a beloved veteran of GH. Dumb and Dumber need to kick rocks! Meaning, get the hell out of Port Charles. These new writers know nothING ABOUT gh OR IT’S CHARACTERS AND THEY COULD care less aout them. I don’t want to see Steve Burton gone. I want to see these 2 idiots gone! You know who I’m talking about!

    October 24, 2012 at 8:05 pm

I started to watch GH and Days again when it was announced that OLTL was ending. Days was going to be my soap of choice until the OLTL hires were announced. I am a long time soap fan whose first favorite show was Search for Tomorrow. GH was a dark and bleak place when I tuned back in. I wasn’t connecting with any of the characters and felt that many actors were phoning it in. While I like seeing the OLTL characters and they were a great bridge for me to a new show, it’s the ensemble of GH that keeps me watching. I really don’t understand the feeling that people have that GH has been overrun with characters from OLTL. What about Anna becoming the heroine of the show? Heather’s camptastic return? Monica returning regularly? Tracy becoming the love interest for a new character? Alexis being at the center of the Jerry and Jax return story? Felicia’s return and giving Mac a supporting story? These have nothing to do with anything except mining GH’s history. The Jason exit story is actually moving to me which is surprising since I really didn’t take to that character up until this point. The more recent scenes with Monica, Elizabeth, McBain and of course Sam made Jason more likable than the man that was shown before. As I don’t have a long history with the show, this exit storyline was an emotional and respectful one in my opinion. I actually care about what happens/happened when just a few months ago I fast forwarded though this character’s storyline.

    October 28, 2012 at 2:31 pm

They should have chosen to reward and restore the character of Jason Quartermaine, rather than honour and display more senseless mob violence. They could have had Jason have his umpteenth bump on the noggin…and have him TRULY wake up as Jason Quartermaine. Have him be SO horrified and disgusted by what he has done and what he has become, that he leaves town. This was a young man going to become a doctor!! He was going to save lives! Then he became a blood thirsty murdering thug who justified his actions by saying it was only a job. That would be . Ig emotional blow to recover from. He could have left town for further brain treatment, or enroll in medical school…something uplifting and positive that let us know that they are listening to the fans. Cartini seem to be of the Maria Arena Bell school of logic….claim to read internet sites and fan message boards, then do the exact opposite of what fans are clamoring for.

I have been watching g.h. For 21 years . I started watching this show after school with my mom, I instantly found myself in love w Jason. I never miss a show, a lot has changed on the show, so many people come an go. I’m not sure if I will enjoy the show with out Steve as jaon . This was the hardest show to watch knowing he was leaving. I wish you all the best, enjoy your family!

    October 29, 2012 at 9:35 am

I am disappointed in how Jason’s character was written off, especially since he is a longtime cast member
And a favorite. It does leave a cliff hanger though making you wonder if Duke will find his body and
Keep him “alive”, like what’s happened to Robin. Jason will really be missed but Im sure he has an
Amazing future in the television industry. We will just miss him on GH.

    October 29, 2012 at 1:18 pm

It’s getting harder to become emotionally invested in character deaths since the possibility of them returning is becoming commonplace. I’m old enough to remember when Meredith Wolak passed or Megan from OLTL. The possibility of them returning did not exist. Now it is likely. We will see Jason again – and it’s hurts GH and the whole genre.

    • Emily

      October 31, 2012 at 1:33 pm

EXACTLY! It’s ridiculous that 90% of the deaths on GH are “fake”. I know it’s a soap but come on, people. Just proves that GH is the stupidest soap still on TV.

    October 29, 2012 at 8:38 pm

Steve Burton wanted to leave GH and so he did. They didnt kick him off the show. BTW Can anyone find an episode where this man actually smiled? After all he was a hit man, why do we feel sorry for him. He killed people for Sonny, so it is kind of fitting how he died. Just because he has a baby now we are suppose to feel bad for him. I am a big fan of Duke Lavery since the late 80’s and don’t believe he was the one who actually killed Jason. I don’t like the idea of there being two dukes though. Its been done already. There are a lot of new characters coming back which should please a lot of viewers. Waiting to see how everything plays out.

Sponge Borg had ZERO personality and that’s what SB enjoyed. He’s been phoning it in for YEARS, if not a decade at least! He finally took his box o’ pain and left. Good riddance!!!

I liked the way they ended it for Jason, leaving it open for his return, I’m sure it’ll be! something like Robin where they showed her that she’s alive……plus Jason has to come back because the baby is his. Gonna miss you Jason, enjoy your time off and hope you return soon

  73. Sheila

    November 3, 2012 at 5:38 am

i am undecided about the way Jason was written off but let me tell you: the episode of where it seemed like Jason had returned but it turns out Sam only imagined it was VERY VERY disappointing. I was on the edge of my seat— so was my 9 year old son- hoping that Steve Burton decided to return…. then at the end, after finding out, that Sam only imagined the whole thing,, I was actually angry and almost cried. It was a cruel thing for the writers to do. Maybe I am being melodramatic but.. that is the way I feel. I can only hope that Jason comes back on the show and if he is ever replaced, it will never be the same.

Bring him back, after all the other dead ones brought back, it shouldn’t be a problem for the writers to bring one more back. oct should be retitled, ‘bringing the dead to life.’
by the say, kelly Monaco is a great actress, and dancer. How does she do it? I hope she wins DWTS. and gets aa emmy for her protrayal of Sam

I have watched Steve Burton ever since he was on that show Out of this world years ago. Am I’m very upset that they have gotten rid of him after all of these years. did not like the way he was written off, thought they could have come up with something better then that, do miss steve/jason. like the oltl cast members very much who joined gh and in their same rolls, but with a twist. do hope that steve will come back at some point, even for just a while to bring us a little more of jason.

Oh well.. Steve Burton is NOT coming back to GH, instead HE WENT TO ANOTHER SOAP The Young and the Restless. Nice eh? so much for moving to Tennessee with the family as he had said. Plus..if Prospect Pak does resurrect OLTL & AMC many of the actors are STILL under contract to PP and could be called back, like Todd, Star and John.

I have been a faithful GH fan for so long I can’t remember when I started watching but somewhere in my 20s and I’m 65 now. I watched with all the newcomers even though I’ve never watched their soap and tried to be interested, however, w/o Jason it’s just not as good. I’m not saying he’s the lynchpin of the show but John and Sam — that’s been done on PC so it just doesn’t work that the vampire is now a good guy cop with Sam. There are too many new characters and people playing old characters that it’s become a joke and I quit watching it. I enjoyed the show but am moving on. Without out SB, it’s just not that interesting anymore.

I must admit I am upset with Jason not being on the show. Jason has always been one of the reasons I have watched this show along with Sonny. I can’t believe this. Not sure how more I will watch. Not as good.

Steve Burton wanted to leave jmop
The new writers wasn’t gonna make him the hero NO MORE
the show is changing!! But I believe if he is to come back

I got fantasy……….lets say John and Sam get married with Daniel being the ring carrier
Sam is gorgeous in white…..John is glistening in black (just a beautiful wedding)

Just about them saying “I DO”….Jason burst into the church and say…SAMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMM
IF RC was to write that, I would have a heart attack and the hardcore JASAMFANS would too,,

But they might be saving him to bust up Lizzie and Golden Boy NO.2 wedding

    But if I am wrong

I do not know to say this. Please if any producer. Or writer finds this and reads it, please please put steve burton back on general hospital. The way he left was horrible. You guys all left us hanging. Now hes on young and the restless….? Oh God why dont u just poke the mans eye out!!!???? It was the sadest day in soap history when general hospital killed off one of their. Best. My heart is truely broken, and the role they gave him on young and the restless sucks. How could you general hospital people do this to me? I. Have been faithful. Through out the years to watch. You guys killed two of the best team mobsters, and ice picked them. Do whatever you have to do to get steve back…this whole thing blows, and my heart is broken. I dont care what you have to do, just get him back on general hospital. GH Nurses’ Ball 2018 Conclusion: Anna Learns Henrik Is Her Son, Maxie Has Her Son, Ava Wows, Mike & Sonny Duet!

In the most moving and exciting episode of this 2018 GH Nurses’ Ball, all roads lead to the truth about Henrik and how he is really living his life as none other than Peter August (Wes Ramsey).  First, Robert (Tristan Rogers) who has punched out by Valentin (James Patrick Stuart) on stage drags him outside of the ballroom for his part in the cover[up.  Robert is worried about Anna’s (Finola Hughes) safety. Nina (Michelle Stafford) confronts her husband about how long he’s known who Henrik is.  She later figures out why he has been trying to whisk her and Charlotte out of the country.

Onstage Mike (Max Gail) takes a mic, and makes a moment of saying he has Alzheimer’s and then launches into the song he remembers,“The Summer Wind.” As he sings, he imagines being accompanied by a big band as he proceeds to deliver a showstopper.  Suddenly, in reality, Mike is lost and disoriented … scared he stares around at the audience.  Sonny (Maurice Benard) gets up to the stage to help his dad by cluing him into the lyrics.  Sonny sings with Mike and gets him through the song.  They receive a standing ovation.

Ava (Maura West) who is preparing to perform her number comes across a moment between Kiki (Hayley Erin) and Griffin (Matt Cohen) backstage where they are in a hug.  Little does Ms. Jerome know that Griffin was consoling Kiki after her lewd run-in with Dr. Bensch (James DePaiva).   Then it is Maura West, who truly brings down the house for this year’s ball with her Ava’s rendition of “You Don’t Own Me.”  That tune was certainly a nod to all those that Ava feels have wronged her.  Yup! Sonny, Griffin and Kiki we think are some on her list!   Dressed in a white pant suit and accompanied by a bevy of male dancers, West knocked the interpretation of the song out of the park, to make it work for her character and the Nurses’ Ball.

Elsewhere, Maxie (Kristen Storms) has gone into labor, and Peter is right there safely delivering her baby boy. Maxie is taken by paramedics to the hospital, while Peter calls Spinelli (Bradford Anderson) at Maxie’s urging to let him know what happened.  Spinelli has just found out, through Sam (Kelly Monaco) and Jason (Steve Burton) that Peter is Henrick!

Anna is walking into a trap on the pier as she waits for Henrick. When he appears, he has no idea that Anna is his mother, and thinks it’s all been a set-up.  He points a gun to eliminate her once and for all, but Anna says she has something to tell him.

The Nurses’ Ball concludes with a touching finale of “Champion” featuring: Epiphany (Sonya Eddy), Felix (Marc Anthony Samuel), Bobbie (Jackie Zeman), Amy (Risa Dorken) and the other nurses.

So, what did you think of the final episode of the GH Nurses’ Ball 2018?  What did you think of the musical performances? Do you think Maxie’s baby will be OK? Will Anna be able to tell Henrik that she is his mom? Share your thoughts via the comment section below.

Ryan Paevey Sends Out Touching Tweet On The Birth Of His TV Son On General Hospital!

On yesterday’s GH, viewers saw the tender moment when Maxie (Kirsten Storms) delivered her baby, who is the bio-son of her late husband, Nathan West.

When Maxie finds out she had a boy to carry on the legacy of her beloved husband, she is overcome.

Ryan Paevey (Ex-Nathan), who left the series earlier this year, took to Twitter upon seeing the episode and the image of the little baby that is his on-screen offspring.

He expressed: “Welcome to the world, little one …. it’s a scary place sometimes, and i so wish i could have been there to show you all the good stuff. Your mother loves you,and will take care of you and teach you …. watch out for her her for me will ya?”

Aaawww.  So many GH fans have been touched by the gesture, and how nice it is that it makes the whole journey and end of Nathan’s West story heartbreaking and bittersweet.
