Y&R Connects The Dots To The Past, Present & Future With New "Previously On" Before Each Episode Begins!

Courtesy/CBS

The executive producer and head writer of The Young and the Restless, Mal Young continues to make some changes to the top-rated soap opera to entice viewers, keep them engaged. and bring in some new ones as well.

Starting on yesterday’s Wednesday, December 13th installment of the CBS sudser, at the top of the episode appeared a new “Previously On” before the action starts for the day’s drama.

In it, Y&R sets up some moments in key stories to let the viewers know where they are in story, and to look back at even some older clips to fill in the blanks for a big return; such was the case of J.T. Hellstrom (Thad Luckinbill) who is back in Genoa City after a several year absence.

Young said on the change to the top of the episodes: “We are always exploring innovative approaches to enrich the viewing experience for our fans. Adding the ‘Previously On’ segment provides us an opportunity to set the tone for each episode and draw on the rich history of Y&R to connect the dots of the past, present, and future.”

So did you catch yesterday’s “Previously On”? Do you like the concept? Let us know in the comment section below!

I don’t like it. It’s unnecessary. I prefer the “next on Y&R” at the end of the episode, which this appears to be replacing.

Hi, Mo,
I think I spoke ( typed, LOL , too soon)…… you are right…. I agree.
I read in such a hurry, I completely overlooked the fact that the “preview” before the episode replaced snippets of next episode
So, I do not like it…..I am vehemently objecting and amending what I said….But, I did enjoy Michael Fairman’s version of “Fighter” by Urban and Underwood. WOW!!

I agree. I don’t like it! I miss the previews at the end.

I agree, Mo. I look forward to the previews. Anyone who is THAT far behind can always catch up online, etc. It was always my feeling that anticipation only makes one more likely to keep watching. Silly me.

Exactly! Show me what’s coming up so I’ll want to tune in. Even if you don’t watch every day, you can still figure out what’s going on. Mal just wants to make changes and put his mark on it. Not everything is broken and needs to be fixed!!!!

I agree, Mo. I don’t like it, either. At all.

I prefer next day previews!

I like it, it is more prime time. But I don’t think they need it every day? Maybe on Mondays, to catch the viewer up on some key moments from the last week. I don’t think viewers need to bitch about something as small as this right now! Three out of the four soaps are absolutely on fire right now!! Days, GH, and Y and R are firing on all cylinders. I don’t “get” B and B, I never will. Incest / near incest is just not my thing, and that show is just a revolving door of family members sleeping together. But I guess having four soaps is better than three! Let’s enjoy the soaps while we have them, minor stylistic changes and all!

I vaguely recall when we had both the previews and the “previously on” footage.
It seems that they needed to give Y&R viewers a brief history lesson on JT. He is before a lot of folks’ time, moreover, some of us might be a little hazy with our memories.
It works for me. Lately, I have found previews not to be reflective of the next episode anyway. In fact, GH has been announcing “Next on General Hospital” only to show quick clips of what just transpired.
I like it, but wish we could have both previews and “next on…” footage,

I also would like “previously on” and “on the next”. Isn’t that what all the popular network shows do? The first time I heard “previously on” I thought it was cool but then when there was no “next time” I was so disappointed. Why do you have to eliminate that? Please bring it back and keep “previously on” Can’t loose this way and make everyone happy

I agree. For people who watch this show everyday there is no need for us to see the same as we saw the day before. I really miss “NEXT”, which gave us a clue as to what to expect on the following days show.

I second this!! Next means a glimpse of what’s to come and had me in a can’t wait mentality. Don’t like the before episode recap at all.

Not going to lie, I actually prefer the “Previously on…” segment instead of “On the next…,” because they can bring in flashbacks, such as what they did for Victoria and J.T., which is helpful for those who either do not remember or were not watching during that time. And to the people bitching and moaning that it takes away from showtime, it’s only 10-15 seconds longer than the “On the next…” segment, so stop trying to be negative and embrace a nice change.

Hmmmmm. I am going to sound like a space cadet, LOL…. but, Scott, you do have a point.
I think some of us are so used to status quo, we cringe at change. ….I guess we’ll get used to it…

I’m also liking the “Previously on” segment because it could help newer viewers.Plus by eliminating “On the Next” segment some viewers may not know what is going to happen on the next episode and will have to tune in to find out.

Exactly! You bring up a good point: not having the “Next on…” segment means they have to tune in to see who’s going to be on and what happens. These changes, for me, are excellent and very positive!

I agree, Scott. As a longtime viewer, it was a treat to see the flashbacks!

“Previously” has nothing to do about flashbacks from 2 decades ago. It is all about the episode from the day before.

Yeah but what a brilliant way to repurpose the idea.

Says who? And it wasn’t “two decades ago,” it was from 2007… that’s ten years. One decade, and as I previously stated, it helps remind those who may not have watched the soap back then what happened and how characters are connected, etc. And, again, it’s just a way of people being negative all-the time to complain about it. Since when does it have to be about the episode before? I’ve never seen rule about that.

Adding “previously on” is not innovative! The ABC shows did that in the early 2000’s. It was a waste of valuable airtime. It saves the show money as they can shoot less of one scene and give that time to “previously on”. Works for a weekly show, not a daily one.

I prefer seeing the next episode preview at the end of the show. I don’t want to waste time on material I’ve already seen.

I agree with you. Bring back the next on segment!

Oh, Carol, hopefully from our posts to the producers’ ears. They make like it’s years ago when, if you missed an episode, you had no way to catch up. I’d much rather have the previews.

Yes, I do like this concept. In fact, I think it’s brilliant. It gives long time viewers a chance to see some vintage clips and it gives new viewers a way in to current story.

“Previously On.” is nothing new…Another World did that many years ago in the late 70s but it did not last…so Y&R isnt doing anything new…i do like the idea because if you miss the last episode you get to see bits and pieces you missed or might have overlooked had one watched…but still Another World gets full credit for the first to do “Previously On.”…Another World also gets credit for the crossover story, especially with its spinoff of Somerset when characters visited both Bay City and Somerset!!!

Oops…maybe it was “Today On Another World’ but then they still started the idea…

Just before I scrolled to your post, Jim, my childhood brain was saying “Didn’t Another World used to do this??” Leave it to you to confirm it for me!

I like it….but, golly gee, JT looks the same….sooo young-looking!!!!!!! Amazing!!!!!

Celia, Hi! And I agree. I’d rather he lose that makeshift beard, but I could spend a week in that resplendent blonde hair. His return is most welcome. J.T. was one of the few characters who actually had scruples (though he was unduly mean to Kevin for too long) and who didn’t cower to Victor.

You’re right, Soaphound……my personal opinion, a blond beard looks scraggly….not just on Thad, but in general.
And, yes….I always liked JT…..now, if only Mac ( Ashley) could come back; take her inheritance back from interloper Devon; GC’s world be resplendent in its divinity, again….LOL.

Hi Celia, I like it also. If you missed the previous episode, this format gives you a catch up!

LOL, Lew….as you can see, I can’t seem to make up my mind. I used a little sarcasm by “vehemently objecting”……I was just joking, in that, it really makes no difference one way or the other, when we think about it. As long as we don’t lose these precious remaining soaps, “they” can do whatever they want….
Later, Lew.

Yet i have aged terribly…i need a Dorian Grey portrait-lol

Nah, Jimmy…I don’t believe that…..bet you’re still so hot, all the girls swoon just looking at you…..
(Aside)—–boring Sunday…sick with a cold—watching Xmas movie (ion) with Michael Muhney and Gloria Loring….Merry Christmas…

They swoon all right…first the puke then they swoon over in a faint…Sunday isnt the only boring day for me…i hac=ve been ill for nearly two years now and its gooten worse the last few months…my sister too…she is back in the hospital for the 100th time since 2015…to take our mind off things we visit a country farm daily to feed the animals and they are very comical…there is some who fight over food even before i give it to them…the dogs and a pig come running down the drivewayas soon as they see our car…and the rest run to the fence including this big turkey who is so quick and steals the food right from the other animals mouth…there is a horse that is lonely and stands in the background because he is bullied by another horse but when he comes to the fence and i can feed him he leans his head and kind of smiles at us-very funny…

and Merry Christmas too you!!!

Oh, Jimmy. I soo enjoyed that!! I’d love to ride along with you, with my kids in tow. We take them to farms and petting zoos all the time…..
You paint such a detailed, living picture, Jimmy. …..have you ever thought about publishing a children’s book? You’re so good at visuals…I could almost see the animanls’ antics.

Sorry to hear about your medical issues, Jimmy. I suffer from insomnia….my btain is always going…won’t shut down; and, I refuse to take sleeping aids—I try to avoid any mind-altering meds. Since I broke my patella, I have excrutiating pain in bad weather. I know it will get worse with age…aches and pains.
Had you kept your stories, you could have been famous by now, Jimmy…..just think ; you could have written for the soaps!! No kidding!
Hope your holidays will bring lots of sunshine into your life….. I truly wish you and your sister well. Thank you for your thoughts….

I regret not keeping stories i had written during my school years…including Runaway Farm i had written in grade school…and mystery stories from My Horror, Mystery, and Science Fiction Class in High School that i had typed(got an A and i even repeated that class so much fun!…But over the years things changed and i just cant write like i used to…used to be artistic…i was well known in school for my art-a painting i done sold at a school auction fundraiser…but i just cant sketch like i did in those days…wish i had kept all my art stuff…i think getting ill so much over the years cost me my talent as well as my life long battle with depression and anxiety…now i suffer from CFS-sometimes i sleep 16 hour days and missed many soap episodes…wish i could write again…would love it!!!…Merry Christmas to you and your family!!!

I don’t care for anything like that just as much as i don’t care for the scenes for the next episode. Soaps were never done this way and i feel that the essence of soap opera has been completely wiped away. Very rarely do we get that surprise that has us calling someone and asking “Did you see what happened to so-and-so today on?” It used to be fun to swear at our TV screens too when something suspenseful would happen to a character or when that last second of a Friday episode ended because we knew we had to go the whole weekend before we would see what happened next. God, I wish soaps would be done this way again.

You’d have to get rid of the internet computers cell phones about 1000 cable stations and go back to no more than 5 OTA TV stations and rabbit ear antennas. IJS.

I am really disappointed in the show MY and his format I just hate it I think I am going to finally just give up never will get the show I fell in love with back. I am not going to watch them bring JT back for a abuse storyline and I think that’s what he intends to do.

Hi K/kay, I so agree with you…I DO NOT LIKE what Mal Young is doing to Y&R and it’s just a matter of time before I quit watching…I started watching full time again when Sally Sussman and Kay Alden returned and even though people complained about Sally’s writing, I loved it and if given time I think we would have seen a lot more with romance, mystery and suspense with Sally and Kay…In my opinion, Mal’s writing and direction, editing and his day to day mode of Y&R is horrible. I have seen other’s complained about this too and I really believe that CBS/Sony better think twice about what they are allowing Mal to do to Y&R which was a classic show with William Bell and Kay Alden, etc…The one thing I give credit to Mal is the set’s and lighting of the show which looks ok but to me I still miss the classic Y&R days with the Collanade room, Gina’s, etc…Oh how I miss Bill Bell’s and Kay Alden’s writing along with the direction, editing, production and YES the beautiful BACKGROUND MUSIC that Y&R was so well known for…Y&R no longer feels like the show I fell in love with and I watched since the 70’s till 2006 and I really believe that we won’t ever see Y&R again until CBS/Sony wises up and listens to the fans of what we want and go back to what Bill and Lee Philip Bell created…

It behooves me beyond end that people say bring back Bill Bell or the days of Bill Bell. You can’t. He was a creator with a unique vision of daytime but he’s been long gone. First with his retirement and then eventual passing. He can’t come back. His vision went with him. There’s only one of all of us . Please let that sink in. Please!

Hello davlestev1, I understand what you are saying and agree with you to a certain extent…Bill Bell stepped down from Y&R in 1998 and the show continued with Kay Alden as the head writer and the show was excellent until CBS/Sony decided to let Kay and other behind the scenes workers go and that is when we lost Y&R that many fans fell in love with…Y&R wasn’t broken and now it is…I know Bill Bell passed and I am not saying bring back Bill Bell but bring back his vision and I really believe it would of if they would of kept Sally and Kay as Head Writers…Many people have complained about Maria Bell, Jill Farren Phelps and Chuck Pratt along with Mal Young…

You have my full support here, Kevin. You have voiced what die-hard fans have wanted for the better of 2 decades: the music, the pacing, the romance– Bill Bell’s vision continued with Sussman and Alden. To drop them after a year’s return bothers me. The show was returning to those glory days, but that’s out the window. I’m just hoping things settle down. I do not like the “reality of time” the show now has: a day is really a day. That’s never been the formula of soaps since the inception of them!

Hi Ron, so good to hear from you and I haven’t seen a message/post from you lately unless I overlooked it…I appreciate your support along with all the other die hard Y&R fans who have watched the show for years and understand what point I am trying to get across…Ron, I hope you are well and that you are having a great Holiday season…Till next time stay safe and well…

I feel like Mal wanted to be Head Writer so he could do the Alzheimer’s story.

then try the new and improved GENERAL HOSPITAL

Hi Brian, I have and am liking it a lot better than Y&R…

Ok I never said bring back Bill Bell that would be a little hard to do but choppy scenes people once again acting out of character recasts that do not have the forethought to research the character I could go on and on but I won’t when Christine is on she acts mad all the time that character was never like that prudish and judgmental at times but mad???? JT walks in the office the next day boom we are to another day have no idea the dialogue what went down. . I swear Pratt has to be back in the bldg. They won’t cave if I do not watch just my opinion and nobody cares.

Personally, I would rather see “next on the Young and the Restless”

I agree with you!

Yes, Helen, I hope we’re in the majority. I always look forward to the previews on every show I watch, especially HAWAII FIVE-O and my soaps. Don’t care for the reviews…what is this, 1980?

“One Life To Live” used to this too for a while, did they not ?

Hey Brian, Yes they did.

I wish they would quickly do that to B&B so we don’t have to listen to the same conversations for a week. I get that it is a half hour show but if you are THAT worried that your viewers won’t catch on then maybe you need different viewers.

When I was a teen and soap surfing due to football, etc., it was NOT the dialogue that kept me intrigued but the characters and the action. Bill and Steffy week after week “you can’t tell Liam.” “We belong together.” “You can’t tell anyone.” “We were meant to be together.” Bill, just make a decision and go with it. LOL!

I liked it. Love seeing the bullet pointed history. When I started watching JT was with Colleen. I think the show is on fire right now. Really enjoying it.

I don’t care for it– I too prefer the next on y&r segment– but since it is the last soap to keep that feature I can’t fault them for dropping it– but replacing it with previously on- using scenes from a while back only make sense to regular viewer, and regular viewer don’t need a refresher– plus soaps are written in a way, most of what happened is repeated over and over in the dialogue, you can catch up pretty fast without need the previously on feature.

I find it very helpful, as I’ve been watching for a few years now but didn’t know, for instance, Victoria and J.T.’s history. And sometimes there’s something you missed from a previous episode, so now you know what you need to know for that day’s episode to make sense. I do miss the “Next on . . . ” segment though. Couldn’t we have both?

I LIKE IT!!!!!!!!!!!! QUIT COMPLAINING AND ENJOY THE FEW SECONDS ITS ON…

LOL or put your fingers in your ears close your eyes and loudly hum LA LA LA LA LA for 15 second.

LOL, dav….I do that on a regular basis when my sister goes on and on about a story I have no interest in hearing….

I don’t like this… I have seen every episode since the beginning and do not gain from the Previously on segment. You didn’t add anything, you took away the previews in the next on segment. Undo this mistake please!

I really detest the new format where we get to see “previously on Y&R” as if we would FORGET where we are in the story BUT they removed the much more interesting “NEXT on Y&R”… This is a daily show not a weekly drama so we don’t really forget the story overnight!! So far I like the writing, I like the return of JT, and I am still hopeful for the return of Adam (MM) because we are sure missing the dynamic of what this character adds to the show and storyline potential! I hope that Kevin (and Bella) can return on contract but I am pleased that Chloe is gone, gone gone!

I don’t mind the “Previously On” thing (OLTL and AMC used to do it) and don’t really miss the “Next On” tags either.

What I do not like is Mal Young’s approach where each episode is one day on Genoa City. It doesn’t make for good soap opera and leaves the characters looking stupid: are we supposed to believe that J.T. walked into Victor’s office and then everyone just went home and Victoria waited until the next morning to talk to her ex-husband? Or that Sharin’ saw Scott in a blood covered shirt in Paul’s office and went home and waited until the next day for him to call and tell her what was going on? Or that Jack and Ashley tracked Dina to a Florida hotel and then waited until the next morning to talk to her? I don’t believe any of that and it does nothing to “entice” or keep this viewer “engaged.”

Obviously not every episode has to continue over to the next but this format undercuts any drama or compulsion to tune in to the next episode because you know that any cliffhanger will not pick up the next episode because it will be a new day. This new format coupled with the show’s insistence on pushing boring couples like Scott/Abby, Devon/Hilary, Cane/Lily, and Billy/Phyllis isn’t going to do much for the ratings. And I’m not even going to get started on what is passing for plots these days (Chancellor Park is for sale! Jabot is sponsoring The Hilary Hour! Unemployed Billy likes to use the Jabot company jet for off-camera getaways with his girlfriend and send her racy texts! Cane is the darling of the business world despite the fact he doesn’t even have an on-camera office! Nick and Chelsea live together! Mariah is a chaste lesbian who really enjoys drinking coffee!)

Y&R was really starting to gel under Sally and Kay’s guidance and now most days it is just plain boring. DAYS is clearly the show to beat right now.

As always, Alan is spot on! Agree with everything you said!

I wanted to see what happened between Billy and JT. And yes, between JT, Victor and Victoria. I don’t get it either why they’re leaving us hanging.

Hello Alan, I agree with you 100%…Mal Young is destroying Y&R…I also agree 100% that Y&R was really beginning to gel under Sally and Kay and I miss them…

Agree with Lil’ Angel….Alan, I don’t think I have ever found myself disagreeing with you…
….and, speaking of the couples you mention, not only are they, what I call props, they are insipid props, at that.
I love my Y&R….will always be loyal; my first love (as far as soaps go, LOL), but I am tired of Abby’s little, spoiled brat whining; tired of having Sharon ride the merry-go-round indefinitely—she can never catch a break!! Why is languid Shell-Sea on? ….and why has shuffle-along Nick become Victor’s foil….his worst nemesis? Strange. I heard of discord between fathers and sons but this is bit out there.
But, the most idiotic couple is the Billy-Phyllis team….As The Stomach Churns. I cannot, after all this time, come to grips with Gina’s Phyllis…..this infantile behavior is sooooo Not inspiring….not ‘cute’—acting like kids with cell phones….sexting? Gimme a break. Phyllis is supposed to be a ‘grandmaman’….and Billy is not Billy either. I, for one, am not entertained by these two. I’ve never seen the sex appeal between them, as many have. So juvenile !
Now, Cane is suddely the international poster boy of the world of business….after proving how low his degenerate-self could go. What a complete turnabout….wasn’t too long ago he was moaning and groaning about paying off tuition. Plus, what mother gives control of Chancellor to her creepy husband’s ‘iffy’ son, and not her own?
Again, Mac should return; take over both the reins and the inheritance from Dee-Dee-Von.
It’s quite humorous how the writers have no clue how a business stays afloat….and, albeit it is a soap, some of these theatrics are just that. No rhyme or reason.
The stories run into each other without cause and tangible effect. I like the reintroduction of JT….here is a compelling story to be had—will he cave to what Victoria is asking of him? Go against his scruples? The law? Are there residual feelings for Victoria?
It would be great if JT sticks around to prove his mettle. For once, no Newman ( including Nikki) should walk out of the fire unscathed……as Adam did….he’ll be baa-ack!!

“Previously” is a waste of time for most people because we watch every day. “Next” is much more interesting and something to look forward to. Please change back ASAP!

I enjoyed the first two segments of the show as it gave an idea of which cast and plots would be covered in the hour. Now it just is a look back. For most fans, they already have seen the shows, or if they wish to know the back story, it’s possible to look it up online. The preview can’t answer each viewers questions about previous show. To entice viewers with a preview makes a lot more sense to me. I’d see a preview and make sure to watch the next day for sure if it was a part of a plot which was extra great. So, my vote is to nix the flashback and resume the previews at the end of the show.

Correction: The flashback can’t answer each viewers questions about previous shows. My mistake to put ‘preview’ instead.

Completely Unnecessary… TPTB should focus on making some
characters a little more interesting instead of this nonsense.

Yes. Different if it is a weekly show and not daily. They are too concerned with people not being able to catch on, but that is the way it has always been and we are here. LOL

It’s a daily show so a lot of the dialogue that is said on one day gets repeated again and again throughout the week. Days of Our Lives neither does “previously on” nor “next on” and so we get to see a little more of the episode then Y&R or GH. Those things work for a weekly but are unnecessary for a daily.

I gotta say;

The Y&R opening is way too long.

It looks like a perfume & cologne ad for Vogue and Vanity Fair.. ugh..

I like the “previously on” .

I like the short flashbacks, too. They have shown me-
Victoria has had the same hair style for 3 decades, sigh..
Now I know 4 women of Y&R have had the same hair for 3 decades or more.
I thought that impossible being most change hair to new trends of hair styles to keep it modern..

Y&R is attempting to bring Y&R into the 21st century and Kudos for that, long over do.

(( and the 4 need to dump the hairstyles from 30 years ago, when they were much younger , and bring the hair into the 21st century))

but, then again;
I’ve noticed the older a person gets the less change they want, They Do Not Like Change..
I don’t know if they can’t let go of the past or fear going into the present.
So, no doubt they will keep their never changing hair styles until they are 80..

I like the “previously on” and the flashbacks.. Seeing change is good..

If the hair looks good, why change it? And no, Victoria has not had the same hair for 3 decades. I guess you blocked out that time she tried short bangs to disastrous consequences.

Not to mention that this actress has only played Victoria for about 12 years. And I don’t know why everyone is shocked that Victoria is being a tough business woman (aka BITCH). When Heather Tom played her, she was a scowling, mean spirited bitch 24/7. She had the penultimate resting bitch face! Even when Amelia is playing the tough part, she has a natural, likeable quality that was absent in Tom’s portrayal. I much prefer Amelia’s version. There is nothing warm or appealing about Tom’s acting and I seriously do not understand why she has a mantle full of Emmy’s. She must be a very good actress and able to play nasty so well because only people who are well liked in the industry get Emmy awards.

Victoria has gorgeous hair, SuzieQ…..never goes out of style….I’ve had the same hairstyle for years, as well…..easy to maintain. Many women envy her hair….healthy and undulating.
Why ruin something with which cascades so beautifully? Amelia has not been on for thirty years, LOL.
I would say to do something with her hair to Nikki. Not because of her age…..I do not believe that as a woman ages, she should cut her hair. No, not that!!! Nikki’s hair is fried from over-bleaching….the hair is dead—tone down the color to ash blond instead of orange. She is a very pretty woman, a muted color would look so hot on her—and cut the dead ends….looks like hay.

No I didn’t like the intro I much preferred the
Things at the end to see what is coming next.

Love the change, it’s always a good idea to refresh with a change, out with the old, in with the new. I’m a lifetime viewer of Y&R

“Previously on The Young and the Restless” is good for those to tune in just for the recaps while waiting for a new writer. The episode is one day format isn’t working. Mal Young should be let go.

Meanwhile, ‘Days of our Lives’ is working big time!

Hi 4ever DAYS, right on about the one day format isn’t working and Mal Young should be let go…I think all shows are beating Y&R right now and Y&R will sink due to Mal Young…

It’s dumbing it down for NEW viewers. This kind of thing always feels like a slap in the face to the current viewers because we have been there all along. I never need a “previously on” or “next on” for soaps because they are daily. It is not DALLAS from the 80s that needs this.

But B&B could definitely use this strategy to move that show along since it is a half hour format then we would not have so much repeat of the dialogue and the story could get going faster.

I like it. The whole point is so that we don’t have to hear people talk about what happened in the previous episode. If you don’t like this, you’re basically asking for that wasted dialogue to come back.

Absolutely hate it. Looked forward to what was coming up.

I don’t like it at all. I watch the show on boring days all the way thru just to see the previews.

It’s my favorite part of the show. There is enough redundancy during the show that the beginning

Clips are boring . The beginning captions only are relevant if the show has been off 2 weeks

Not 24 hours. As my mom would say, if it ain’t broke , don’t fix it. Please restore. The future

Clips. I have not to talked to one person who likes the new look.

I miss the “Next on the Y & R”. Mayybe only show the previously on Mondays. We don’t need them every day. When is Adam played by Michael Mulhaney coming back?! The show will be on fire when this happens.

The changes to the show have left the show very choppy – I have watched Y&R on and off for over 20 years. I prefer the Next on vs the previously on, but more importantly the content of the show is now very choppy. The show now ends the episode on some sort of “cliffhanger” but is no longer picked up on the next episode, instead the next episode is a new day, so it feels as if we are left hanging. We do not get to see the reactions and feel the emotions of what happened where the last episode left off. This is a horrible change.

You nailed it, Kristen. Exactly how I feel about the next episode picking up on a new day. It makes the show “choppy.” The viewers can’t see reactions and emotions of what happened where episode left off. We are left hanging. Horrible changes and has taken enjoyment away from watching the show. I already commented on the “previously on.” It’s awful and unnecessary for a daily episode show. “Next on” provided anticipation and the viewer could look forward to next one..

I think it’s pretty unanimous that people do not like the “previously” and they prefer the “next” It gives you something to think about in anticipation for the next episode. If you are that far behind that you need to be recapped every show, then your not watching it on a regular basis. I can miss a week or more and still manage to catch up. Bring back the “next” listen to your loyal viewers for once!

Hate the new format. Change it back. The show is lacking recently, I watched since it’s beginning. I prefer more melodrama. That’s what soaps use to be in the early eighties. Intense stories that were hard to digest. Quite frankly, I’m bored.

No, I do not like the “previously on” at all – it’s not needed to know what happened. Also, it seems longer than “next on” so it takes more time away from the actual episode. “Next on” got me excited to see the next episode and now it seems the show just drops off and it’s disappointing every time.

I have been watching y&r since Douglas introduced Nikki Newman to Victor. As a loyal viewer of the show, when a format such a the original format has worked for the show, since the beginning, you don’t change the best and tried and true way which works. It should be changed back to the shows preview back to the end. Thank you for this opportunity to give feedback for letting those who make these decisions feel about the change with the hope it will be changed back.

Steve Kent Reportedly OUT as Sony Pictures Television VP in Charge of DAYS and Y&R

On Friday, reports surfaced that Steve Kent, Senior Executive Vice President of Programming at Sony Pictures Television, is no longer with the company and overseeing the Sony soap operas, Days of our Lives and The Young and the Restless.

According to Soap Opera Digest, a set side source reported that Kent’s last day was last Friday, April 12th, which was one day after what would have been his final appearance in his Sony VP role at the Days of our Lives 15,000th episode on set celebration.

During that ceremony, Kent gave a brief speech giving kudos to DAYS for its incredible milestone. Days is a co-production of Sony Pictures Television and Corday Productions, while Y&R is produced by Bell Dramatic Serial Company in association with Sony Pictures Television.

Kent started his soap opera career as a producer for CBS’ defunct Capitol and then as the supervising producer of NBC’s Santa Barbara from1984 to 1993.
