44th Annual Daytime Emmy Award Nominations Announced!

UPDATED: On Wednesday, the nominees for the 44th Annual Daytime Emmy Awards were revealed exclusively on The Talk in categories from daytime dramas, talk shows, game shows, legal courtroom, entertainment news, morning programs and more.
The ceremonies will be held on Sunday night, April 30th at the Pasadena Civic Auditorium in Pasadena, California. The Young and the Restless led all daytime series with 25 nominations, followed by General Hospital and The Bold and the Beautiful with 23 and Days of our Lives with 22. In a press release NATAS addedL “The National Academy of Television Arts & Sciences is excited to be presenting the 44th Annual Daytime Emmy Awards in the historic Pasadena Civic Auditorium,” said Bob Mauro, President, NATAS. “With an outstanding roster of nominees, we are looking forward to an extraordinary celebration honoring the craft and talent that represent the best of Daytime television.”
“After receiving a record number of submissions, we are thrilled by this talented and gifted list of nominees that will be honored at this year’s Daytime Emmy Awards,” said David Michaels, SVP, Daytime Emmy Awards. “I am very excited that Michael Levitt is with us as Executive Producer, and that David Parks and I will be serving as Executive Producers as well. With the added grandeur of the Pasadena Civic Auditorium, it will be a spectacular gala that celebrates everything we love about Daytime television!”
The Daytime Emmy Awards recognize outstanding achievement in all fields of daytime television production and are presented to individuals and programs broadcast from 2:00 a.m.-6:00 p.m. during the 2016 calendar year.

Can’t believe there was no Maurice Benard!
AMEN TO THAT!!!!!!!!! HE WAS OUTSTANDINGT DAY AFTER DAY..
Maurice should have been nominated for an emmy, this is insane.
Some of the nominations were predictable, while some were unexpected. It goes to show you where some soaps need to pick themselves up, and where some are doing quite fine. The four main acting categories are going to be packed solid! Best of luck to everyone!

1) Gina Tognoni and not Tracey Bregman….why Gina, at all?
2) why no Finola Hughes as lead nom.—-I think Nancy Grahn should get the Emmy. She rose above everyone else, for me. But, Finola belongs on that list, too. As does Kate Mansi. Lordy, Lord….Kate was breathtaking the past year. Her acting gave me goose-bumps. Sooooo goood! So, why not in the lead list? I also expected Mishael Morgan to be on the supporting actress list.
3) Why Kristoff St. John? He is just taking up space.
4) why Tequan Richmond? Nothing impressive about his acting or storyline. Hardly ever see him.
5) what is the big deal about Hunter King? Camryn ate her up. I suppose she is not in that category?
Also, how does Alyvia fit among these older nominees? She is a little girl.
PS. LOL…. I forgot; congratulations to those who were nominated….whether I agree or not, you worked for this achievement. So, enjoy !!
1. Gina is a strong actress, and if she submitted the material I believe her to have submitted, it does not surprise me of her nomination. As for Tracey, she really did not strong enough material for the qualifying year. Next year? She could be a shoe-in for the category she submits herself to, if she does!
2. No offense to Finola, but during the qualifying time for nominations, nothing she did was worthy of a “Lead” qualifier. She was a supporting player majority of her time last year. Kate, I believe, is due to her age, as to why she was omitted from the “Lead” category and was given a “Supporting” nomination once again.
3. Kristoff St. John is not “taking up space”. He has been doing tremendous work!
4. No clue! I could name 2-3 other people that could replace him in the “Younger” category.
5. Let’s not even discuss.
As for Alyvia Alyn Lind, she IS a “Younger” actress, so the category she is nominated in suits her appropriately so! There is no “Child” category.

I believe the actors usually choose which category to submit themselves in most cases, so most likely Finola is in the supporting category because that’s where she chose to submit herself.

No outstanding lead actor for GH? Did no one submit?
Maurice Benard and Roger Howarth were the two that got pre-nominations. First time since 2010 that GH won’t have a nominee in the Lead Actor category.
As everyone knows, by now, I do not like Sonny. I have no idea how ‘potent’ this character was as a crime boss ( size aside, LOL…no malicious intent). But, I do feel that TPTB give the character too much credit, in the intimidation department.
I don’t know if he lost steam, or what; but, since I have been watching I have not seen this character enmeshed in anything ‘high-powered’, mouth agape, in awe, at all.
But, I do like Maurice. When Morgan died, I praised Maurice’s acting….his sense of loss and helplessness were tangible. I, finally, saw what all the hoopla is all about. Unfortunately, the inspiration did not continue…not as far as I could see.
I do not know what to say about Roger/Franco. Here is an actor whom I admire and have loved for years, but whose craft is so wasted in this role. I cannot even fathom where the writers are going with Franco.
What can be done for him? He can break through the invisible wall between Jackey and the world. Voila’, Franco, the hero!
Mo is a very good actor, he makes you believe he’s Sonny Corinthos and he was very good in those scenes when Morgan died. He also has a pretty good comedic touch and delivery, like when he was off his meds at the engagement party a few years ago, he should be able to explore that more often.
I don’t get Roger,never have. I only know of him since he’s on GH. I didn’t fihttp://michaelfairmansoaps.com/wp-content/themes/mf/i/submit-button.gifnd anything great about Todd and he lost me with Franco the minute he showed up. Both Todd and his Franco are just obnoxious to me. I don’t think it can be blamed on a role, not on a soap, when he’s had 4 years, over 300 episodes and multiple storylines to try and get it right. I don’t think he’s been nominated all that many times for Emmy’s and he’s never won a best lead or supporting actor in over 20 years.
That said, a lot of really good actors are gone from GH. Jason Thompson, Tyler Christopher, Rick Hearst, there aren’t a lot of Emmy caliber actors left. Billy Miller, who has won Emmy’s, hasn’t impressed me either with his portrayal of Jason.
Hayley Erin was robbed, big time!

Couldn’t agree more! Hayley was excellent a couple of years ago when Silas got murdered, and I thought she would get a nomination that year, and she didn’t. The same this year, she was fantastic in the aftermath of Morgan’s death, and I thought for sure she would get nominated. She was better by far than the other two actresses from GH that got nominated in that category.
She’s improved a great deal as an actress over the past couple years, hopefully she’ll get recognition one of these years.
I agree…I completrly missed Hayley, audrey. She has proven her muster…has stepped up. Love her.
She deserves it more than Hunter King, in my opinion.

Especially when it’s for those with barely cameo-appearances, but the desired P-C cred that the Emmy committee obviously desires! Happens every year, k/kay!
No Maurice Benard for Lead Actor after the excellent year he had? What an absolute joke! People can agree or disagree on whether they liked the Morgan’s death storyline, but the one thing that was for sure were the performances of Maurice Benard, Laura Wright, and Bryan Craig They gave Laura and Bryan their well deserved nods, but Maurice gets left out once again. A terrible snub.
Hayley Erin is another one that I thought was great in the aftermath of Morgan’s death, but she gets passed over for Chloe Lanier and Lexi Ainsworth in that category, neither of which I see as being deserving. Tequan Richmond got nominated as TJ, but no offense to him, I can’t remember one scene he was in last year.

The talk…hypes the Daytime Emmy Nominations…along with CBS….yet not shown on the ” BIG 3″…IN YEARS!
Interesting that most of the Corinthos clan got nods except the Don himself. Not sure what CD submitted, unless it was the one episode that Michael was angry again at Sonny.
NLG should runaway with Best actress. She’s won in years when she’s practically been on the back burner. Shocked if she doesn’t win this year when she drove story.
Is there some Kelly Sullivan fan club in the TV academy that I don’t know about? Whether it was cuckoo Connie or superfluous Sage, her # of nominations through the years is puzzling.
It will be a tough battle between Nancy Lee Grahn and Laura Wright in that category, both had an awesome 2016. Although, you can’t look past perennial Emmy favorite Heather Tom, who I think could walk on screen, drink a glass of water, walk off, and she’d get nominated for it. All previous Emmy winners in that category.
Maurice Benard not getting nominated was a terrible snub. I know Sonny is a very polarizing character, but he brought it during that Morgan’s death storyline.
I look at it this way, Brian…Laura Wright, the person, is extremely likable. However, in her role as Carly, she is most decidedly the polar opposite….I actually loathe the character. That’s called great acting, and so it’s Laura for the Emmy win!

Maurice was robbed from getting an emmy, Sharon case did not get nominated, she is a wonderful actress. the academy should all get fired.
Some new names among nominees, and several who are no longer with their characters or series. And some actors/roles that in days gone by would never get a serious look. Interesting! Seems odd that all four series get nominated when there are only four in the running. I almost want to make a joke that this is akin to participant medals in kids’ activities anymore. But process is always being tweaked, hopefully for the better. Some of the most deserving likely did not submit for consideration. And with awards of any kind, someone is always overlooked.
The nomination list had my eyes rolling. No disrespect to the actors but some on this list barely got any good materials. Seriously, whoever selected these nominees need help. It seems like they don’t know much about soap operas.
I cannot take daytime drama awards seriously, all four soaps are nominated in so many categories. Every show is automatically nominated. Even the actor awards don’t mean as much as there is much less competition compared to ten, twenty years ago.
ITA– also the nomination for outstanding game show pretty much covers every one that is on daytime — and game show host, everyone of them got a nod except poor Drew Carey. Not enough competition except in talk shows.
The prime time Emmy show has the opposite problem with cable and streaming shows now included, some very good network shows never have a chance competing with the big budget talent cable and streaming services pay out.
Honestly I think there is so much imbalance in the present Emmy system both in the day and night time verison that it should be completely overhauled or scrapped

BUT I’ll cast my “vote” for Vincent Parise for Supporting Actor!
He was very good but I don’t think it’s fair for short term, recurring actors to be competing against contract actors. Of course JVP got very meaty, dramatic material where he could pull out all stops because the writers don’t have to pull any punches with disposable characters. Contract actors, however, have to remain viable unless they’re doing a big exit story like Bryan Craig. What’s sad is that Frank Valentini has so gutted GH’s contract cast, ignored actual story development in favor of the big splashy plot points and hasn’t bothered with character development for new characters to the point where day players shine brighter than contract actors who should be the heart and the core of the show.

Ireally hate that Heather Tom put her name in again.I’m sick of her winning and what exactly had Hunter King done. I think the writing team for Y & R could have won but they never tie up loose end stories like Jill Abbott lost all her money,got the money back wanted the ring instead, now she’s wearing the ring but has the money to travel the world. Chloe’s baby story is still up in the air and we’re just getting close to finding Adam, but they also went through a lot of different writers so we’ll see.
Jill should have money from working at Chancelor? They never even mention that company and who works there! I have an itch that Colin gave her a fake and he kept the money!
Hey Timmm, She was working & saving her money but when she wanted to buy back the shares from Jack remember her lawyer said “you don’t have enough to buy a dress at Fenmore’s let alone shares”. So Colin spent all her money, then found the ring and sold it in order to put the money back into her account, then she was so upset about the fact that he sold the ring behind her back that she through him out saying “get the ring back”. So he bought the ring back which means she has no money again. She own’s half of Fenmore’s but Jack owns 40% so that leaves 60% between the two sisters that’s only 30% each and it’s not sold. She didn’t have the money to help Lauren get her son back and said she was broke. It makes no sense but Jill said she changed all her bank accounts so Colin can’t touch it. Well at least we’re getting into finding Adam that should be interesting.

You corrected me with an excellent recap! Yes, we should be cleaning up the Adam mess in about a month. Chloe is set to go on the run in May! When they show pictures of Justin Hartley as Adam you just know there is no recast. But in the last couple flashbacks they only showed Conner and Hellsea! Maybe Justin will reappear in May to show everyone Adam is alive? He is on hiatus from “This is Us.”

In my opinion, Outstanding Guest Performer should go to Nichelle Nichols who did an amazing short run / stint as Neil’s alcoholic mother on The Young and The Restless. Both Nichelle and Kristoff St. John did an amazing job in those scenes together, hands down! 🙂

Finally nice to see Nancy Lee Grahn with a nom. Well overdue and she is the best actress ever! Along side w/Michelle Stanford and Maura West, wow what an acting crew!
Both Maurice and Dominic Zamprogna who also did stellar work during Morgan’s death were robbed !!

OUTSTANDING LEAD ACTOR IN A DRAMA SERIES….
Nobody! Maurice Benard was snubbed once again! Unbeleivable! GH had won in this category the previous two years with Tony Geary and Tyler Christopher. No three in a row in 2017. Maurice was hoping for his second win and eighth nomination.
OUTSTANDING LEAD ACTRESS IN A DRAMA SERIES…
YES!!! Laura Wright and Nancy Lee Grahn were two of the five nominees. The two best actresses and most riveting performers on daytime last year! Carly and Alexis were the characters to watch in 2016! This is one seriously competitive category this year with basically everyone having great material to submit. I still beleive the winner will come from GH in the end. I am very curious to find out what Laura and Nancy submitted. They both had tons of great tapes to choose from last year with some heavy quality drama. So intense! GH last won in this category two years ago with Maura West. Laura is going for her second win and this is her fourth nomination for lead actress. Nancy is going for her third win and this is her eighth nomination overall, she was won twice before in supporting and this is her fourth lead actress nomination.
OUTSTANDING SUPPORTING ACTOR IN A DRAMA SERIES…
Woo!!! GH scored two of the five nominees in this category with Chad Duell and Jeffery Vincent Parise. I don’t think the category is very competitive this year, so these two guys have a strong chance to win. Chad was amazing in the fallout of Morgan’s death! He had great explosive scenes with Michael confronting Sonny, venting to Jason, and then blasting Kiki to peices. He could also submit the heartbreaking stuff when Michael learned about Sabrina’s death and the tearful goodbye he shared with her. Great range showed in both of those stories by him from intensity to tenderness. GH has won in this category the past two years with Chad Duell two years ago and Sean Blakemore last year. Three in a row? Let’s hope so! Chad is going for his second win and this is his fifth nomination overall. Jeffery Vincent Parise landed his first nomination and is hoping for his first win as supporting actor.
OUTSTANDING SUPPORTING ACTRESS IN A DRAMA SERIES…
GH landed one of the five nominees with Finola Hughes. The women categories look much stronger than the men categories this year across the board. I would say that four of the five who made the final cut in supporting actress all have good material to choose from. I don’t even know what to say anymore or pinpoint any particular moment cause Finola is excellent all the time. We had some solid stuff from last year with Anna seeking justice for Duke and learning that Griffin was his son so another nice blend of intensity and tenderness. GH last won in this category four years ago with Julie Marie Berman. Finola is going for her second win and this is her seventh nomination overall, she just landed her second supporting actress nomination along with five nominations for leading actress.
OUTSTANDING YOUNGER ACTRESS IN A DRAMA SERIES…
Hooray!!! GH landed two of the five nominees in this category with Lexi Ainsworth and Chloe Lanier. I love the chances with one of those two winning after looking over the final five who made the cut. Chloe probably doesn’t have the scenes to win this year, but may be the frontrunner for next year. Lexi had some good frontburner material in the first half of 2016! Much more than the other four in this category so the chances of a win are very strong. Kristina’s sexual fluidity story did produce some very impressive scenes. Solid family drama was at the core of those episodes. Maurice, Nancy, and Haley Pullos all played great supporting roles in these episodes, but Lexi was showcased as the key centerpeice in every scene. Nobody overshadowed her even once. She also showed more range than just the usual soapy drama. The fun episode last summer with a drunk Kristina snarking away with level headed Molly was decent comedy. GH last won in this category four years ago with Kristen Alderson. Lexi is trying to score her first win and this is her second nomination for younger actress. Chloe landed her first nomination and is hoping for her first win as younger actress.
OUTSTANDING YOUNGER ACTOR IN A DRAMA SERIES…
Cool!!! Bryan Craig and Tequan Richmond were both nominated for the third straight year. I am gonna keep this one short and sweet in my thoughts on this category. Bryan is a 100% lock to take home his second straight emmy! The emotional dramatic stuff from early last year when Morgan reacted to Carly and Sonny have him committed was excellent work. He has tons of more quality powerful material to submit than the other four in the category. This one is in the bag. Bryan is looking for his second straight win in his third nomination.
What the hell? No Maurice Benard in the lead actor category? No men from GH at all? Really? REALLY? The Emmys always find a way to piss me off every year about something but I think this is the first time they’ve managed to do it before they’ve even aired!!!
I felt the same way. There have been some years where I was “meh” on whether Maurice would get nominated or not, but after the great work he did in the Mogan’s death storyline, I thought he would be a slam dunk this year. Yes even though I think Gina will get lead actress
I am rooting for Nancy Lee Grahn for outstanding lead actress. I think her portrayal as Alexis, breaking down, and becoming an alcoholic was amazing. Alcoholism is a real disease that many of us can relate to in some way, I think. Kate Mansi also did an amazing job during Abigail’s breakdown on Days of Our Lives. Billy Flynn, was absolutely incredible on Days of our Lives, as well.
Was (or has) Hunter King even been on-air in order to gain a nomination?-not in any memorable storyline that I can recall. I’ve never been a fan of Bryan Craig. I always thought his craft needed a lot of work. The only time I enjoyed his character was when he wanted to fight to protect Avery. Other than that, the character was just nasty and spoiled, in my opinion, and never fully grew. As much as I don’t care for the character of Nelle, I think that Chloe Lanier did a great job with the character (in a lackluster storyline).
Hunter/Summer did have a lot of story with her romance with Luca and working at Newman. She hasn’t been on lately because of her other show.
Hunter King/Summer Newman would throw her name into the opening of a pizza parlor.She was married to the guy that went to jail but it wasn’t an exciting story at all. None of her story’s have been especially good.
I second everything you said, dmr. Billy Flynn, Nancy Grahn, kate Mansi and Chloe Lanier—-fantastique!!

Upon Finola Hughes we can heartily agree, Timmmbo! As the always classy and elegant Anna, she is a winner every year in my book, although I do think a Lead Actress nomination wouldn’t have gone amiss for this GH treasure. However, given her absence in that category, I have to root for Laura Wright’s highly- convincing Carly….yes, she is an awful, annoying character who drives a lot of us to abject distraction and disgust with her headstrong ways—not to mention, abiding love for Sonny, but that’s also exactly what makes her portrayer a strong and deserving contender for the Emmy. Lastly, I also must part ways with you on the Younger Actress category….I’m all in for Chloe Lanier! She has been one of the best additions to GH in an absolute age…whilst I’ve not been necessarily pleased with the material she’s been provided thus far as “Nelle from H#!!,” she has managed to allow her innate talent to rise above those subpar storylines.
And thats the nail on the head concerning Laura. She plays Carly perfectly but outside the character, she is a very nice, compassionate human.
SOOOOOO glad Maurice didn’t get nominated. Sonny is killing GH. UGH! My only fear is they’ll ramp up the Sonny crap in hopes of getting him a nomination next year. GROSS.
I would have liked to have seen John McCook be on this final nominees and taken the gold thirty years on this soap and did some fine work this last year. Sorry but so bored with the same names !

The woman has had a phenomenal year! Younger Actress my pick is Chloe – Lanier and Younger actor, ya know it’s Bryan Craig.
Best drama will go to either b&b or days…Lead actor Peter Bergman or Billy Flynn…Lead actress Gina Tognoni (Phyllis blasted Victor in court and her affair with Billy was worth watching… Supporting actor either John Aniston or Steve Burton…. Supporting actress Kate mansi…Younger actor Pierson fode…Younger actress reign Edwards (Nicole caught zende and Sasha together) (omg r u people full or something)… Writing b&b …directing b&b trust me I will be right I watched all four shows last year
The outstandings I liked this year were:
Nancy Lee Grahn…what a departure from our regular Alexis as she went down her dark rabbit hole compared to Laura Wright’s (great actress) same-old Carly. Next year for Jess.
Not overwhelmed by the lead actor category, so I’ll give it to Scott Clifton this time for at least breaking his usual Liam mold in the story between him and Quinn/Rena which I found weird but charming.
I always like Finola, but wouldn’t be disappointed of Stacy Haiduk got it for never-know-who- is-going-to- show-up Patty on Y&R. Or even Kelly in playing the unforgivingly, plotted role by writers as Sage. Again, like Jess, next year for sure for Finola who is starting off with great performances.
Chloe for younger actress. And as much as I thought the Morgan story has been overdone for the last couple of years, have to give it to Bryan Craig for younger actor. It was a very emotional role to play without much of a let up in intensity.
And of course Michelle Nichols, guest, as Kristoff’s mom as a guest on Y&R. What a touching performance. For me, this is another acknowledgement of the what her role as Uhura on StarTrek did for diversity and women, before most tv industry time, from a genre that is mostly ignored or underrated for it’s progressive, thought provoking thinking. If anything I wish she could have had a few more days on Y&R to meet the grandkids and great grandkids.
Impressive post, Rose. Especially, your take on Alexis….I like how this character emerged from, what seemed to me ( only my opinion), the Julian spell. I like this brand new Alexis.
Nancy Grahn captured every nuance inherent to the classic ‘closeted’ alcoholic. She simply blew me away.
I never took to Morgan….to the end, LOL. But, although, the character came across as a spoiled, rich kid, he truly did a great job.
Stacy (Patty) was phenominal. Sadly, many of us tend to forget how well-developed the character was….Stacy made Patty her own; very believable.
And, yes, I wish Nichelle Nichols could have ‘visited’ a little longer…..I can appreciate your last sentence .
By the same token, she served a very specific, momentous purpose. Making peace with Neil was paramount to closing a chapter in his life. Just a thought, Rose.
I would have traded a few nominees with others, but, who am I? Different strokes for different folks….to each his/her own….live and let live….etc. etc. etc. LOL.
Celia…Who would you have traded? One was more personal, for me, but earned. Liam/Scott a little off the grid.
But i did find outstanding drama a little tricky. One seemed no better than the other, and each had a moment…maybe because there was so much transition with writers, actors and stories.
Then outstanding supporting actor. I don’t watch Days, so as for Chad, maybe next year…he does seem to be maturing a an actor, but he’s not ready yet. Plus it would help if writers gave him better stories to work with than all his “girlfriends” not working out and giving babies back. Steve had a good swan song. Wish he and the story hadn’t waited so long. I probably tend to Jeffrey and his jail scenes. He never had much of an imprint when he took Sabrina’s baby, but it did leave room for him to return. Yea!
Then again, CeeCee, what always roils me is when a character is awarded a contrived soap-staple of a story along the lines of disease of the month club, mental breakdowns, twinning or dual-identities, alcohol or drug addition, politically-correct subjects, etc. for the highly-transparent reason of garnering an Emmy nomination….it’s become so cliche’ that I refuse to even buy into the practice anymore. As far as I’m concerned, it’s not the scenery-chewers or barnburners that deserve recognition, but those exquisite few performers who can turn the ordinary into the extraordinary by the sheer weight of their talent….as specifically relating to soaps, I would mention the ever-effective, yet extremely subtle, Finola Hughes and Genie Francis. In a more general example, I can think of nobody better than Dame Maggie Smith, and no, I’m not simply referring to her incomparable Dowager Countess Violet Crawley of Downton Abbey fame, but ALL of the roles this most accomplished actress tackles…check out The Lady in the Van, Curtain Call and/or Keeping Mum….to name only a couple of fine choices. Everything this lady does is at once utterly magnificent, but at the same time, wholly natural….never forced, overdone or overwrought…However, the results are quite frankly riveting and speak for themselves!

I have a few in mind whom I would have traded. But, I’ll settle for one, at this point: Hayley Erin for Hunter King.
Erin ‘grew’ in the short time as Kiki. She gave the character a few, very explorable dimensions. To me, that’s very important ….showing progress.
I cannot say the same for King.
As an example, I present to you, Billy Flynn. I realize you do not watch Days; but, as a ‘new’, relatively young actor, he slid right into the role of Chad DiMera as if he had played him for years. If anything, he deserves to win just for that—it’s a merit.
To be honest, Duell’s nom sort of caught me off guard; as did Richmond’s.

OMG GH can’t win every award. I think y&r will be the nights biggest winner on 4/30. Sully’s paternity was the best. I think Bryan Craig might win if Pierson fode doesn’t or directing for the car bomb going off at Morgan’s expense but Nancy, Laura, and Chloe are not going to win. Morgan’s death was greatly written but in all honesty it’s not going to win best drama. I see the other three with a fighting chance though especially y&r & b&b.
Why wasn’t Maurice Bernard nominated for GH lead? This is crazy!!!! What about William DeVry for supporting actor???

Downton Abbey…nice timeout. Had a hard time sleeping last night so was delighted when I could tune into the Downton Abbey marathon on my local PBS station anytime throughout the night, through the next day morning hours. I know it’s not your traditional daytime soap, but soap it is. Even though it is based on a “real,” reality timeline. Right now I’m at blackmail, child out of wedlock, older relationships….”full marriage” or warm relationship, power struggles, back stabbing, etc., and always love, family and loyalty. With all it’s great axtors.
I have seen comments on MF about how we separate our soaps sometimes convoluted stories from real life…”it’s only a soap.” Makes you wonder real life isn’t just a bigger than life soap opera.
A few thoughts here…
1. Scott Clifton…W-H-Y?!?!? And for what…for playing a whiny, moronic and lovesick CHEESEHEAD?!?!? N-O!!!!!
2. Steve Burton…for playing a clueless and dimwitted “SUPER-COP”?!?!? Again…N-O!!!!!
3. Most of all, why is that Hunter King chick EVEN NOMINATED this year?!?!? She’s not even on Y&R anymore!!!!! ULTIMATE N-O!!!!!

Whoever the people were who voted for pre-nominee Peter Bergman obviously didn’t see his one-size-fits-all facial expression, which was bite the lower lip. Every scene Peter was in where he was to show frustration, anger, annoyance, hatred: all I saw was that one and only expression. Normally I love Peter Bergman, but he’s spoiled my enthusiasm for his performances. I’d rather see Kristoff win this time around; he has better range.
Michael Fairman, have you heard whether this year’s awards show will be televised? I do agree with the others who say one of the 3 networks which air the soaps should broadcast the awards, since – my guess – there are likely more soap fans interested in the outcome of the voting than any other category of show. Any Canadian fan, such as myself, is left out of the viewing when the show is broadcast on a network, or streaming website, not allowed in Canada. Thanks in advance for any information you can provide!
Now that I know what reels most of the acting nominees picked I can kinda predict the winners. For lead actor- it’s Billy Flynn; lead actress- it’s down to Gina Tognoni or Nancy Lee grahn; supporting actor-steve Burton hands down; supporting actress- Kate Mansi no doubt about that; younger actor-steve Bryan Craig or James lastovic ( his reel is on point omg lots of range); younger actress-reign Edwards or Hunter king ( despite what you all may think she’s won twice before. A third win should not surprise you. She picked her break up with Luca and the jail scenes where she rips him apart omg it was good); writing-possibly y&r; directing -(I’m just guessing) gh; drama series- y&r but it’s only my opinion though

51st Annual Daytime Emmy Award Nominations: CBS Soaps Score Most, Eric Braeden, Dick Van Dyke, Guy Pearce Receive Nods
The National Academy of Television Arts & Sciences (NATAS) have officially announced on Friday, the full list of nominees for the 51st Annual Daytime Emmy Awards.
While Thursday brought with it four reveals of the nominees in the Outstanding Daytime Drama, Talk Show Host, Lead Actor and Actress categories (as presented by various entertainment news programs), today’s nominations include all the other categories not previously announced.
The Daytime Emmy Awards telecast is set to be presented live on Friday night, June 7, at 8 PM EDT /delayed PT, on the CBS Television Network, and available to stream live and on-demand on Paramount+. This will mark the 18th time that CBS has broadcast the Daytime Emmys.

In addition, The Daytime Creative Arts & Lifestyle Emmy Awards will be presented on Saturday, June 8 at t9 PM ET/6 PM PT and streamed on The Emmys apps and at watch.TheEmmys.tv. The ceremonies will take place at the Westin Bonaventure Los Angeles.
Television icon, Dick Van Dyke has received his first-ever Daytime Emmy nomination in the Outstanding Guest Performer category for his touching portrayal of Timothy Robicheaux on Peacock’s Days of our Lives. The nomination makes Van Dyke the oldest Daytime Emmy nominee in history at 98-years-old. In addition, motion picture and TV star, Guy Pearce, is also nominated as Guest Performer for his longtime role as Mike Young in the reboot of Neighbours.
Speaking of Neighbours, the Australian soap opera also received its first ever Daytime Emmy nomination for Daytime Drama Series now that its a revival can be streamed on Amazon Freevee. In addition, The Young and the Restless iconic, Eric Braeden (Victor Newman) received his first Daytime Emmy nomination in more than 20 years in the Lead Actor in a Drama Series category.

In the Daytime Drama series categories, CBS’ The Bold and the Beautiful and The Young and the Restless each scored 12 nominations more than any other show. Leading the acting nominations was B&B, who landed 7 performers in the various categories, a first in its 37-year history.
In a statement, Adam Sharp, President & CEO, NATAS expressed, “We are happy to once again honor the creative talent both in front of and behind the camera of America’s favorite Daytime programs. We look forward to celebrating the icons who enliven the days of audiences across the country.”

Brent Stanton, Head of Daytime, NATAS added, “Producing the Daytime Emmys is a labor of love for all of us at NATAS. The huge popularity of these shows continues to be must-see viewing for their fans.” NATAS also revealed that Lifetime Achievement Honorees, Hosts, Presenters, and Silver and Gold Circle honorees will be revealed at a later date.
The Daytime Emmy Awards recognize outstanding achievement in television programming honoring work in a variety of categories, including daytime dramas, talk shows, instructional programming, hosting, culinary, and legal/courtroom programs. In 2021, NATAS and the Television Academy jointly announced plans to realign the Daytime and Primetime Emmy Awards to be organized by content genre, as opposed to program airtime.
The 51st Annual Daytime Emmy Awards will be produced once again by NATAS and Associated Television International (ATI). Adam Sharp and Lisa Armstrong are executive producers from NATAS, while David McKenzie executive produces from ATI.

Stephen Schnetzer Talks On His Return to Days of our Lives and Working with Susan Seaforth Hayes In Emotional Episodes
Who says you can’t go home again? In the case of Another World favorite, Stephen Schnetzer (ex-Cass Winthrop), he has proven that it is true, and you can go back to your soap roots and where it all started for you.
Last week on April 11th, Schnetzer, along with several other key returns were on set at Days of our Lives taping all-new episodes of the Peacock streaming soap opera, centering on the funeral of Doug Williams (the late Bill Hayes), and as part of the iconic soap opera’s 15,000th episode.
Stephen is reprising his first daytime role as Steve Olson, the brother of Julie Williams (Susan Seaforth Hayes). The last time Schnetzer appeared on a DAYS set was during his one and only run on the show from 1978 to 1980. Clearly, viewers will be in for some very emotional scenes when Steve returns to Salem to be there for his sister, Julie in her time of need. In real-life, Susan has been going through her own grief, having just lost Bill back on January 12th at the age of 98.

Michael Fairman TV caught up with Stephen during the 15K episode celebration ceremony, and during a break from taping the gut-wrenching funeral scenes, to get his thoughts on being part of these highly-anticipated moments that will air later this year in December. Here’s what he shared with us below.
What has this been like for you to work with Susan Seaforth Hayes after all of these years?
STEPHEN: She’s a dream and she’s so bright. We ran lines yesterday and we ended up just visiting for about 45 minutes and just catching up and telling tales about each other’s career. She even dropped off the autobiography that she and Bill did. And being back here at DAYS, every time I turn a corner, there’s another familiar face. When I was on the show 40 more years ago, a bunch of the guys, played softball on a team together. This is really a trip down memory lane as I knew it would be.

STEPHEN: I am and I’m checking in with Amy Shaughnessy (Susan’s assistant), and she’s holding her up more than anybody. We’re there for each other.
There will obviously be some major hankie-inducing moments when Steve comes back to Salem to console his sister.
STEPHEN: Oh, wait till you see it in December. It’s going to be great.
Were you surprised you got this call to come back to the show decades later?
STEPHEN: It was out of the blue! I was completely surprised. They should have called me decades ago! That’s what surprised me. When Another World went down, I thought I’d land somewhere else and it never happened. That was more of a surprise.

Cass is such an identifiable character for you. As well, you and Linda Dano (ex-Felicia Gallant) are so synonymous together as best friends Cass and Felicia from Another World. When fans heard you were reprising your role as Steve Olson on DAYS, they are now hoping there will be more of you on the show to come.
STEPHEN: Steven Olson is a real “Cassian “character. I cut my teeth on Steve Olson and that’s how Cass was introduced. He was kind of a roguish charmer. And then when the character stuck for Another World, they rehabilitated me, and turned me into one of the shows heroes. And that’s what would’ve happened if I stayed as Steve Olson probably. So, Steve is the ‘pre-Cass’, Cass.

As the story goes, you originally decided to leave Days of our Lives?
STEPHEN: I was never on contract. I was doing a day and a half a week and I got a Broadway play directed by Franco Zeffirelli starring Joan Plowright and Frank Finlay. I was able to it as I didn’t have to break a contract or anything. I cut loose and went back to New York for that.
How well did you get to know Bill Hayes during your first time around on DAYS?
STEPHEN: My first episode was with Bill and Susan, as her long lost brother coming into Salem. They were so good to me. They were so kind. I had been doing eight years of classical repertory theater, never been in front of a camera. I tell everybody, it took me longer than any other actor I’ve ever seen to get comfortable in front of a camera. And they were very supportive at that time in my career. Coming back to honor Bill now in 2024, and to be see Susan, I am just so happy to be here.

51st Daytime Emmys: Outstanding Daytime Drama Series Nominations
On Thursday, the 51st annual Daytime Emmy Awards revealed nominations in several key categories via four entertainment news programs: Access Hollywood, E! News, Extra and Access Hollywood.
Three of the four announcements were major categories in the field of Daytime Dramas.
The nominees in the Outstanding Daytime Drama Series category are: The Bay, The Bold and the Beautiful, Days of our Lives, General Hospital, Neighbours and The Young and the Restless.

General Hospital won this category last year, and has the most all-time wins for a series in this category. For the first time, the beloved Australian-based soap opera, Neighbours is now eligible for competition due to its reboot which streams on Amazon Freevee.

The 51st annual Daytime Emmy Awards will be handed out in ceremonies in Los Angeles and broadcast live on CBS and streaming on Paramount+ on Friday night, June 7th.
