ABC's Primetime Soap BLOOD & OIL Has Modest Ratings For Its Premiere!
Sunday night, the big winner for ABC was the premiere of Quantico, while its lead-in the new soapy drama, Blood & Oil scored modest ratings for their debut outing.
The Don Johnson/Chace Crawford starring vehicle about a conniving oil baron and a young upstart couple delivered to the alphabet network 6.3 million viewers and 1.4/4 in 18-49 demo. The series grew 7% in total viewers over its lead-in Once Upon A Time, but was down 36% from Resurrection’s premiere a year ago in the same timeslot.
Quantico was the highest rated on the night’s ABC programming block and getting the most solid reviews, while Blood & Oil has not been a favorite of TV critics – often comparing it to a poor man’s Dallas! The show came in with 7.1 million viewers, and 1.9/6 in 18-49, which was up by nearly 50% from the network’s Revenge in the same hour a year ago. It built on Blood & Oil by 36% (0.5) and, in an especially good sign, held its rating in the 10:30 p.m. half-hour.
So, did you watch the premiere of Blood & Oil? If so, what did you think? Did you also check out Quantico? Share your thoughts in the comment section below!

DAYS Alum Tanner Stine to Appear in ‘Monsters: The Lyle and Erik Menendez Story’ Starring Nicholas Chavez
Another face familiar to daytime fans has already boarded Ryan Murphy’s limited series, Monsters: The Lyle and Erik Menendez Story which stars General Hospital favorite, Nicholas Chavez (Spencer Cassadine) in the role of Lyle.
Tanner Stine who played Kayla (Mary Beth Evans) and Steve’s (Stephen Nichols) son, Joey Johnson on Days of our Lives will also appear in the series.
In ‘Monsters’, look for Stine to portray the role of Perry Berman, who was Lyle and Erik’s friend and former tennis coach. Other previously announced castings included: Cooper Koch (who plays Erik), Javier Bardem and Chloë Sevigny as parents Jose and Kitty Menendez, Nathan Lane as Dominick Dunne, Ari Graynor as Leslie Abramson, and Leslie Grossman as Judalon Smyth.

Lyle and Erik Menendez have been behind bars in California for more than three decades for the 1989 killing of their parents.
Monsters: The Lyle and Erik Menendez Story will debut later in 2024 on Netflix.

Soap Vet Christopher Cousins to The Young and the Restless
Looks like Ashley (Eileen Davidson) may get some much needed help, or assistance in shedding light on what caused her to have a massive personality split as her DID condition continues to spiral.

More of the Story on ‘General Hospital’ Star Josh Kelly’s Latest Film Role in ‘The Workout’
We had previously shared that General Hospital’s Josh Kelly was taking three weeks away from his role of Cody Bell to a shoot a role in an upcoming movie entitled The Workout.
Josh originally revealed his role in the film during an episode of GH castmates, Steve Burton (Jason) and Bradford Anderson’s (Spinelli) podcast.
Now Deadline has filled in some of the blanks, and shared some intriguing intel on the premise of the film and its back-story. The film stars Kelly along with Peter Jae, and UFC Fighter, Ashlee Evans-Smith. Other cast members include The Bay’s Kristos Andrews.
In The Workout, two army rangers set out to create a workout video, but their plans are abruptly halted when a mob hit interrupts their filming. Tragically, one of the rangers loses his wife in the attack, sending him on a relentless mission to take down the mob and anyone who stands in his way.
The film from James Cullen Bressack, almost did not get financed. Apparently, ten days before his birthday, Bressack made a post on Instagram about the feature and production, casting, and financing came from the post … illustrating the power of social media. After the post gained traction, a producer provided financing and actors expressed interest in joining the project, leading to a quick production.
In a statement, Bressack shared, “As artists a painter paints, a musician makes music, a writer writes, but as filmmakers we have to ask permission to create. It’s time to change that narrative. This film spawned from a necessity to create. We create. We tell stories. We play pretend. I’m excited to take this journey. This is the truest form of collaboration and a community of friends coming together to make something fun. While our industry has had a rough time recently with strikes and a possible strike looming in the future, it’s nice to remind ourselves why we got into film to begin with. To have fun telling stories.”
No word yet on when The Workout will be released.
So, looking forward to seeing this collaborative effort featuring GH’s Josh Kelly? Comment below.

Y&R’s Hayley Erin Previews Her Role in Horror-Thriller ‘New Life’
I did watch Blood and Oil and loved it. I liked seeing Anne Sward from ATWT on for just a moment. I liked the young couple a lot.
I want to give it a chance (no pun intended) and see where it goes.
I watched it a little…i think the writing, production and acting was too ambitiuos…it tried too hard to be good…not much of a plot, and no likeable characters…lacks the addiction of previous primetime soaps…i believe they thought the were going to outdo Empire and it backfired….Empire is well made soap with likeable characters you remember…thats the major difference between the two…i still prefer daytime serials like Days!
On my DVR… thanks jimh..your review is the one I most trust but I’ll watch it to see
Always take a look to get your own opinion…you might like it better than me…i might check out future eps. to see if my own opinion changes…i usually take another look just in case.
I thought it was awful. The Dallas reboot was far more entertaining. ABC should have obtained that from TNT.
I didn’t care for it either.
It seemed to me to be product of Northern Exposure meets Dynasty/Dallas.
I wanted to like it for the sake of Scott Michael Foster, but no cigar.
Say that GURLLLL
TOTALLY AGREE….45 MINUTES ENOUGH…..DALLAS WAS FAR BETTER……
I will give it another viewing and decide then. I do know that the plot should have been something other than (Oil) . They are Cowboys it did not have to be about oil like Dallas!!!!
It is apparently based on real life–finding a lot of oil in ND. No one had done a show based in ND before. So you’re saying that if a story has already been done, it should never be done again?
The title is horrible!
I will give it month/4 episodes.
It should pop by then if not then I can’t waist my watching time on it..
It well my turn into something intriguing..
(it’s the phony southern accents that I don’t care for..
oops the southern accent was in a different show lol
I have a friend in ND she lives a few miles from the boom towns..
She said lots of drugs, prostitutes, and unbelievable high prices..
small one bedroom apts going up to 5-6, 000 a month..
A shot of whisky 20.00 ..
they did build housing for the workers, but they still pay dearly.
it is lively but not as on Blood and Oil, the times they went there it was not like in the show.
I’m with you su0000. 4eps. I invested three summers into “Under the Dome” and they left the viewers high and dry! I will not fall for that BS again!
Blood & Oil i give about B It’s not great but not bad,,,, Quantico was a major hit i give it A+
The FBI of GreysAnatomy..can’t wait to see DickWolfes Chicago Med
I just can’t get into oil being the backdrop theme of this show. We’ve been there when oil was a “glamorous,” hot topic with ‘Dallas’…which I loved. Too bad because I like Don Johnson. But what’s a guy to do on tv anymore…be a lawyer, doctor, law enforcement, criminal, zombie, politician, superhero? So we’ll see where this show goes.
But I did love ‘Once Upon A Time’ season premier.
Oh Rose I LOVE ONCE UPON ATIME! From the first episode on, a fantastical, magical journey full of spectacular costumes, imagery and imaginative storytelling. Yet somehow thru all the fantasy we love the characters and the dynamics BETWEEN th characters too.
I recorded it and have not yet watched it.
Chace Crawford is all it takes to keep me watching , he truly is eye candy I can’t resist. I’ll watch him read the phone book .
I watched and it was boring as hell, this show was truly awful, they took off REVENGE for this show, wow, wake up ABC.
This show will not last, as for Quantico, awesome!
Johnson delivered well but over all our young couple shouldn’t have had that much brass up against the very rich Johnson or any of their dealing.
Did that couple forget that there is such thing as birth control, she does work in pharmacy and yeah I didn’t like Johnson’s son much.
As usual, ABC-TV missed the Ball.
They made a gigantic daytime error by eliminating the iconic soaps, ALL MY CHILDREN and One Life To Live….and their evening primetime choices are
horrendous.
If they want to do an evening Soap…..combine the elements of All My Children with One Life to Live, call it PINE VALLEY or call it LANDVIEW starring Susan Lucci and
Erika Slezak and Julia Barr and you will have something.
But no, no, they wouldn’t listen to a suggestion such as that, because it would be a
sunday night blockbuster and the guys at ABC are idiots.
I’m from ND so I wanted too see how it was. Being from here I expected it to be a little like the area should be. Not so much. I think I may watch one more episode but thinking it will be coming off the DVR list.
Disappointed so far!
