Alison Sweeney Talks DAYS Return On AOL BUILD Series: "What I Love Most About Sami Is That She Is A Firecracker!"
Days of our Lives returning favorite, Alison Sweeney was featured on the AOL Build series on Tuesday, where this busy actress/producer/author/mom/spokesperson chatted on a myriad of her projects from her partnership with Arm & Hammer, Her Murder She Baked TV movies, her books, and of course teased her return to DAYS in the coming months as Sami comes back to Salem.
When discussing getting back on set at the long-running NBC soap opera, Sweeney expressed: ” I went back to Days of our Lives this summer, and shot some episodes and I am going to be on this fall starting in October, I think for a couple of months. It was so, so fun It was also oddly nerve-wracking because it turned out OK. I was petrified the first day I returned to work. I was worried I wouldn’t remember my lines. I was worried I wouldn’t remember how to be Sami … I had all of these crazy fears, and then I got there and it was like being home again, and it was wonderful. It was so great. I was happy to be there.”
When the host asked Ali what she could give as a preview to Sami’s return, Sweeney noted: “I think the biggest teasers the show already shared, in that another popular actor is coming back, Chandler Massey, who you remember played Will for many years… make of that what you will.. But it was really fun to see him again and … Maybe to work with him. What I love most about Sami is that she is a firecracker. She comes into a scene and it sort of explodes around her. Sometimes on purpose and sometimes she didn’t mean it . So, there’s something very fun about bringing that character back to life. Definitely, she throws down in Salem and makes some trouble wherever she goes.”
Watch the entire 30 minute interview with Alison after the jump! Then let us know if you are looking forward to seeing how Sami comes back into the story under new head writer, Ron Carlivati in the comment section below!
Yes, yes, yes!!!!
Is it wrong to want really really bad Sami? No, it is not! Sami who went in drag as a man really really bad. Sami who tortured her half-sister and was awful to her mom about not being with her bio dad. Sami, who’s sense of self-entitlement at the expense of everyone else was as routine as the days in a week.
Bring it.
I did like the character of Sami during her younger years, during the Austin (Patrick Muldoon), Carrie, and Sami (and Lucas) years (probably, because I was a teenager and could relate to teen love and angst). However, as the years went on, I grew tired of Sami and her antics. Although, I respect Ali having so many years in the industry and she does have such a loyal fan base.
Teen love and angst. Yeah, my friend. Who cannot relate to that. Perfectly stated, dmr.
Sometimes…just sometimes; don’t you wish you could turn back time? When the heart goes pitter-patter at the first sight of the boy ( or girl) we have a crush on?
I can’t wait to see Sami in action again….with a dash of naughtiness.
Leave those ideas where they belong…with Jim Reilly in his grave! He wrote Sami not so much as a her not so much as a character…but as a sociopathic, psychotic, narcissistic nut job without one redeeming quality. Thankfully…people grow and change! We witnessed Sami’s growth on air. For new writers to trash all that forward progress and character development is lazy, predictable, and a cheat to intelligent viewers who expect more!
Well said, Jovin.
I do like Sami, though. LOL.
I liked Sami, no matter what story line they had for her, she played in 100%..WELCOME BACK ALLISON SWEENEY…..
I was very attracted to “Stan” yike
You do realize that Stan was portrayed by a male actor and not by Sweeney right? She did a couple esbablishing shots and set ups. I shudder even thinking about the steaming pile the show was when Reilly wrote it!
Well if she returns (or when she returns) it couldn’t hurt this show, because right now the show is just so astonishingly terrible anything would help.
An excellent point, Johnny Grant.
I’m glad Sami is back, even if for months. Hopefully she can keep coming back for visits.
I’m so excited Allison AHA Sami. is coming back to DOOL. I’ve been a avid fan for 50 years, and i didn’t like when my favorite actor left the show. I’ve followed her in her Hallmark movies and Biggest Loser. No matter what show shes on, she is 1 of the best actors in ever to be on DOOL… I can’t wait for her return.. I glad that the actor who played Will, is coming back also..To bad he wasn’t locked up in a dungoen somewhere also…A typical DOOL move…
It would be so perfect, if Will really didn’t die after all…
It’s interesting that she hints that Chandler Massey is back, but not necessarily in the character of Will. Of course it would be wonderful to see the smiling, effervescent Will again. However, creating a new character could be even more interesting, especially seeing how he would interact with everyone expecting him to have Will’s behavior and knowledge when he doesn’t. It could be fascinating to watch the new character struggling to live up to and confront the reputation and repercussions of a person he might never even have known. Either way, I will get my DVR set up to start recording as soon as Sami or Chandler are back.
Likewise, it could be helpful to new audience members if a new Chandler character slowly got to hear Salem’s people and history explained to him in little chunks of information.
Since Sami has left I hardly watch Days. I used to dayscafe every day now maybe every 2 weeks
Okay….so let’s be clear…Sami is coming back for a couple of months. Much like Eileen Davidson and Chandler Massey. We all know it’s temporary and can only add enough air to keep this show floating till renewal time in 2018. It’s trendy now to bring back characters from long ago. Either dead or written out. I love Chandler Massey’s portrayal of Will. I don’t like the fact that they not only killed him off but made it so much a part of the canvas. It’s what caused Sami to leave town. EJ and Sami were separated by death as well. I am certain EJ will return from the great beyond. I just wish that these actors wouldn’t come back as a gimmick. Once they leave the stories go back to the mundane. My only hope is that Ron Carlivati will write the hell out of this show. He is sorely missed at GH. The huge difference between GH and DAYS is that GH has a stellar cast without bringing back old characters. While there are a few good actors on DAYS, none of them are as spectacular as the casts on other shows. I know that John and Marlena are soap veterans but watching them in any scene together is like watching paint dry. Kayla and Patch (Steve) are just a painful reminder that the 80’s were as fake as the music was back then. You can not rewrite or relive history. My fingers are crossed that DAYS will have some fire again. Currently it’s the MOST unwatchable show in the daytime lineup. With Arianne Zuker leaving there will be one more superb actress leaving the canvas. Ron has his work cut out for him. I have faith he will do his best because he is a stunning writer but I hope he lets go of all the younger cast because they are painful to watch. Hey Ron, make Marlena a serial killer again with a penchant for rubbing out horny teenagers. This will make the show bearable AND enjoyable at the same time.
I am looking to her return Ali is my fave actress ever love Sami Days been horrible without her but big part me of is sad that James Scott is not returning i was a huge Ejami fan i thought this time we see them reunite but no he still going to remain dead i think more fans want to see EJ been brought from the dead that Will i never liked her son at all. I am happy she reuniting with him as we all know all mother loves their sons but i never liked the way he treated her.
I’m looking forward to her return. Just wish EJ/James Scott were back too. Are the twins returning?
My husband and I LOVE the Murder She Baked movies on Hallmark Mysteries and Movies channel. Will Allison be making any more of those movies? We don’t see any new ones coming soon. What’s happening?!!!!
