AMC, GH & Y&R Receive WGA Nominations! OLTL Snubbed!

In another possible “what were they thinking?” moment in award show nominations, the Writers Guild of America (WGA) has announced this years nominees for achievement in television, news, radio, promotional writing and graphic animation.

And in the Daytime Drama Categories, the nominations went to writing teams from The Young and the Restless, All My Children and General Hospital.  However, One Life to Live was left out!  We have heard that OLTL may have submitted Shane’s suicide attempt and part of the bullying storyline for contention, but we can not confirm that at this time.

The rules for submission and judging in the daytime category are this:  Each daytime drama submits three scripts and a précis which is a recap that covers an integrated period of time and describes what has been happening on the program, and the relationships of the characters.  WGA does not comment on what episodes were submitted.

We congratulate all the nominees and are left scratching our heads for no nomination for One Life, which day in and day out had the most dramatic and clever scripts this past year.  After the jump, you can see the list of the writing teams and individuals receiving a nod.  The winners will be announced in simultaneous ceremonies in Los Angeles and New York on February 19th.

All My Children, Written by Jeff Beldner, Lorraine Broderick, Joanna Cohen, Lisa K. Connor, Chris Dunn, Lucky Gold, Kate Hall, Chip Hayes, David Kreizman, Dave Ryan, Donna Swajeski, Rebecca Taylor, Addie Walsh; ABC

Really !!! OLTL was the show to watch….they suck…enough said….

What?! I don’t even know what to say. AMC over OLTL? Shocked is understatement. Why didn’t they submit Matthew confessing to Bo and Nora that he killed Eddie Ford? This was a shocker for many fans, very emotional.

Really? OLTL not nominated? Wow.

UNBELIEVABLE, JUST UNBELIEVABLE!

Regarding the sin of omission here, could it be a factor that OLTL works its magic in New York City in relative obscurity compared to the dramas based in Los Angeles?

I question the AMC nomination but must say I am relieved B&B was not among nominees. I am so disappointed with that show ‘s storylines and plot points.

OLTL has NEVER, EVER gotten the recognition it deserves. I’ve watched every soap over the years & I am constantly amazed by who/what wins the awards. Never has made sense & OLTL being cancelled is just another thing that will never make sense. I am sick over & sick of thinking about it. I hate the View, the Chew, the Revolution & anything related to ABC. I have not watched GH in weeks, except to check in once in a while just to see if it is going anywhere new-it never seems to be-and although great things could come from Ron & Frank taking over, why the hell get re-invested in it? GH IS on ABC, right? How can it survive when ABC hates soaps? It is just a matter of time before it is ripped away from us too. I am so pissed off.

Am I shocked? No. Once again, oltl is overlooked as it has been in the past. Gh which is the most poorly written show in daytime garners a nomination. It is so dishearting. Oltl deserves to be recognize and honored for delivering the best pieces of writing in daytime. Hopefully, but im not holding my breath, that the emmys will do oltl justice n honor them with distinction in outstanding drama writing and directing teams.

I find it laughable that AMC would be nominated for any award that would have to do with writing, being that it was the poor writing over the last several years that was the cause of the downfall for AMC. And regardless, of what anyone had to say, the writing for me continued to stay in the toilet after Pratt, the gruesome two-some Kreizman & Swajeski and finally Lorraine Broderick…..

I just don’t understand why OLTL would get snubbed !! ?

I must say that I’m very shocked that AMC and GH were nominated over OLTL when it is both of those shows that had/have the worst writing teams on record! So does Y&R but apparently for the episodes that Y&R submitted, MAB, SH, and HS were never around those scripts!

Doesn’t make a bit of sense, but neither do the Emmy nominations every year. I guess we should just stop expecting common sense out of decision makers in this country. Everything’s political and dollar driven.

Snub? Politics? Money? Stupidity? Ignorance? Neurological deficit? Or, the literary aesthetics of Neanderthals?

I went on Youtube today and was re-watching the Bullying scenes with Shane, Rex, Gigi, Blair & Echo….OMG, it still makes me cry. Everyone was so spectacular. When Shane was on the roof, and Gigi was pleading with Shane to not jump and telling him how he was the greatest thing to happen to her…it was just too touching. And Shane’s speech about how he wanted to be the kid to not sit on the sidelines and join in on the fun, and not have to worry about his sickness…the tears just kept flowing. It’s stories like that, that make stellar soaps. OLTL is in a class of their own. I don’t care that ABC wasn’t smart enough to realize how great of a show this is….OLTL is the best!! Can’t wait for a clean sweep at the Emmy’s. There were so many wonderful performances by so many, I don’t know how they are going to narrow it down. Shane (Austin) better win for Outstanding Younger Actor….no one deserves it more than him.

I can understand GH and Y&TR being nominated. But AMC over OLTL? NEVER.

OLTL is the best soap on tv EVER!!!! The writing has been great this year. Why does everyone treat the show as the poor stepchild when it is the real Cinderella story. Soaps don’t get any better.

Mark Consuelos Celebrates One-Year Anniversary as Co-Host of ‘Live’ Alongside Kelly Ripa

Today, April 17th marks a full-year since Mark Consuelos (ex-Mateo, All My Children) took over the co-hosting duties of ‘Live” alongside his wife, and longtime co-host, Kelly Ripa (ex-Hayley, All My Children).

Consuelos replaced Ryan Seacrest who are six seasons decided to be back on the west coast full-time. For Consuelos, now having the opportunity to work off of Ripa as co-hosts has been something of adjustment for him, but viewers have been eating it up.

Live with Kelly and Mark has remained the No. 1 entertainment talk show on television over the past year, growing 3% in average total viewers to 2.23M per episode.  It is also the most-watched daytime talk show in the last year in key demos of women 18-49 and women 25-54. All of this, since the real-life marrieds teamed-up.

Speaking with Deadline, Kelly Ripa shared why the two are gelling on-screen, “I do think that there is something very possibly relatable about our relationship. We have disagreements like a normal couple, and we’re not afraid to let them unfold on the air and in front of America, and I think people find a lot of themselves in that.”

Mark weighed in how he has progressed as a host, and what he could improve at, sharing, “I’d like to get better at my interviewing skills. I’d like to get better at reading a teleprompter…I think I’m getting better at throwing to commercial. The other day in the middle of the show as we go to commercial, my sign off was ‘See you guys around.’ I mean, the show wasn’t over. The most obvious thing to say would be, ‘We’ll be back right after this.’ But I just said, ‘See you around.’ So we went to commercial and one of the producers (goes) ‘What was that?’ I don’t know… So for the next few sign offs, as a joke, I’d say ‘See you around.’ We got a kick out of it.”

Meanwhile, Kelly has given huge props to Mark, “I find Mark utterly compelling, really interesting, super funny, and he’s bold in a way like nobody else. He says what’s on his mind. If he’s thinking it, he says it.  I’ve done this a long time and oftentimes people will adjust their natural personalities to pander to what they think the audience wants to hear, and Mark will tell people what he thinks, and he doesn’t care if it’s not a popular opinion. It gives him an edginess that I think is really missing in the landscape today. Everybody’s so afraid to say anything, and Mark is unafraid to say exactly what he’s thinking.”

In a statement, Debra O’Connell, President News Group and Networks, Disney Entertainment shared, We could not be more thrilled with how Mark has seamlessly joined the show family as permanent co-host. His undeniable charisma and his and Kelly’s natural chemistry are evident as they deliver the laughs and smiles to our viewers each morning. We are incredibly proud of how Live has continued to evolve and that the audience is responding so enthusiastically.”

So, do you think Mark Consuelos is the best co-host his wife Kelly Ripa has ever had on ‘Live’? How would you say he is doing as co-host after one full year on the job? Comment below.
