AMC & OLTL New Opening Credit Sequences! What Did You Think Of Them?

Very early this morning, soap fans got to watch to be the first to see the initial installment of the long-awaited returns of All My Children and One Life to Live on Hulu, Hulu Plus and iTunes, and with seeing the updated versions of the soaps, comes new opening title sequences that has already been much-talked about.

So, now we want to know from you, which of the two shows new opening title sequences did you like?  Both of them? One Life to Live’s? All My Children’s? Or, none of them?

For All My Children, the look and feel of their opening title sequence is reminiscent of classic soap with the use of character names to ID the faces familiar, and not, familiar to the audience.  In the TOLN version, there are no actors names corresponding to the characters in the opening. However, the official cast list is brought up at the end of the episode.  In addition, what did you think of the new AMC theme song that plays with the sequence?

For One Life to Live, the look and feel of their opening is very different than the ABC version, and does include some interplay via dancing on a dance floor with the characters you know who are paired with each other romantically in story,   The new theme song, “Brand New Start” from Snoop Lion and performed by Iza is played throughout. Properly, the ending on the sequence last show features star of the show Erika Slezak (Viki) and her on-screen love interest, Jerry verDorn (Clint).

Watch both sequences below! Then, let us know if you like! Or, what you would like to see differently, or you have any suggestions to enhance them? Or were you all smiles seeing the sequences for the first time? Weigh-in!

AMC gets my vote, which surprises me because I enjoy OLTL so much better. I still wish they would have used the old OLTL theme song, just updated for the new opening.

The OLTL opening just looks like a you tube montage that a fan threw together. Hate to be critical because I am so happy to see the show back, but that is my honest opinion.

I agree

I thought the OLTL opening was fresh and “out -of -the-box” ! The AMC opening was about as trite and trivial as Pine Valley itself.

amc opening is nice
oltl – what is this?

OLTL’s opening reminds me of the cosby show opening where they all dance

LOL I agree!

i am so overwhelmed & ecstatic right now all i can say is both shows were extraordinarily phenomenal………..totally awesome!
i loved everything about both shows!!!
thank you prospect park…………♥

Love them both!!!

Although neither opening is exactly my cup of tea, the AMC opening is far superior and I actually like it more and more on subsequent viewings. That OLTL opening, however…. um… no. I don’t care for it at all. I’d rather see a generic sunrise shot over a mountain than that. Otherwise, both openings look to have production values far below those of the rest of the series, IMO.

Both need a lot of work, but AMC was the better of the two. AMC’s theme is better too, but Snoop’s little ditty will probably grow on me over time.

The first time I watched them I hated them, but my disdain has softened on a few viewings. OLTL’s is better, but I still don’t like either of them.

I liked both of them! I am hoping OLTL starts looking more like the opening sequence. AMC’s fit the look of the first episode and will endure well.

Loved AMC’s credits. Didn’t care for OLTL ‘s credits. I felt that AMC’s felt like they encompassed the heart of Pine Valley while OLTL’s were lacking the Llanview soul.

Would of like something more traditional. I accept that we have to be willing to adapt to keep our soaps going strong.

They both need work. These were not network quality opening credits. But the shows were great!

I really don’t care for them…but I am so glad they are back in production so what does it matter.. They will change them in a year.. I did like the credit… We are the fans and watch and keep them on!

If you listen to the intro with Vicki and Clint there was the orgianal music.. Good to hear.

I liked both but was surprised the song by snoop wasn’t better than that.

Loved them.

As far as I’m concerned, they can post the opening in construction paper if they want … Our soaps are back!! Pinch me! Is it really real??????

I loved both openings. The one for OLTL is complete fresh and different. The first image of Bo and Nora brought a tear to my eye. I was very surprised by the song. Since I am not a fan of current musical styles, I expected to have difficult with the new theme. Not at all. While I don’t think Grammy is called for, it sounded like music. I don’t know the young woman who sang it; but she sang. She didn’t talk. Who knew?

AMC’s open is a traditional TV opening sequence and looked great also. I think it is important that they kept the feel of the original show since this version will feature so many new characters.

Wow! Francesca James looks simply stunning! I’ve missed her in front of the camera…

Major FAIL! Both shows looked great (although AMC sees to have the edge with a nice balance of indoor and outdoor scenes) but why pour all this money into these two shows to bring them back and be respectful of the genre if you’re then going to trash the entire thing by having openings that look like a fan put them together! AMC has the better opening and is more reminiscent in terms of look of the ABC version. OLTL, however, is garbage! They need to seriously reassess these openings. I’d rather see OLTL go back to the old sunset than this! That was, at least, classy!

There was nothing wrong with the OLTL opening! Both were great!!!

As someone who works in the business, they were amateurish at best and cheaply done. Why spend all this money to resurrect these shows if you’re going to cheap out on your opening and graphics?

That is your opinion I liked the openings!!!

I like AMC opening better thah OLTL. Because amc you see the characters flashing before you and their names below the picture . And you see the book opening that says All My Chidren on the cover. A little new & old….I haven’t watched amc in a while so I like the opening & seeing all the characters I know and the ones I am not familiar with . OLTL is totally different , nothing familiar with their opening. When I think of OLTL I think of the other opening with P. Bryson singing the theme song which song & words were heart-warming. This one isn’i.
They could have changed the words & music around a little to Bryson’s verision and make more recognized. It ‘s a complete 180… But that won’t stop me from
continuing watching OLTL!

The feel, look & sound of the AMC opening was reminiscent of the Peapod, or was it Peapack, Guiding Line opening…. even the song sounded similar.

Funny enough, I thought the same thing.

If Todd isn’t going to be on the show anymore OLTL will have to change it anyway. The dancing kind of reminded me of the “Cosby” show begining, I think they can do better, but you know it’s not about the opening, it’s about the content of the shows, and I thought they were both excellent and lived up to both of their former selves with an edge. DRAMA–can’t wait to see more.

Neither tune grabbed me but AMC had the better visuals. I wish they would both list the actors names as TY&TR does. Vets like Slezak, Strasser et al have beyond top of the show billing IMHO.

I loved #OLTL’s opening. It had that joy of dancing that the show is back from the dead. It captured the joy and the soul, romance and heart of OLTL.

THANK YOU Prospect Park for doing this is such a wonderful big way.

Are opening sequences really needed anymore? A lot of prime time shows have let them go. Something quick and to the point would be more effective- but out of the two, AMC wins, but think both are too long– and would have preferred instrumental music over a song.

They are really back! OMG! It’s just too groovy to believe!

I haven’t watched AMC in years, but they get my vote! It was much more of a soap opera intro….not crazy about the OLTL intro..especially the song 🙁

Oh, that was a song, Sandra? I couldn’t tell!

Seriously dude? Obviously there was more to the intro then just the song…and that was the part I didn’t like…get a clue…and a life!!

I guess you couldn’t tell I WAS JOKING!

I agree with Sandra about OLTL intro.

I like everything else about OLTL!

I am on such a rush that at this time, they both were fabo-soaplicious:-).

OLTL all the way. Great song. It’s classic with a nice dose of 2013 thrown in the mix!!

The other verision was a classic with P. Bryson ‘s words & music that was the whole package. Heart-warming. This new intro isn’t…

I was bothered by the OLTL opening at first. I thought it was cute, calling it a brand new start…wink, wink, and all that…how cute to see Bo and Nora dancing like they used to. Seems that music is going to be a big part of the nu-OLTL, so it kind of made sense. I watched it again and then I sucked it up. OLTL is back and I couldn’t be happier!!! I won’t be surprised if it gets tweaked in coming weeks.

There were things I liked and didn’t like about both openings, but I will overlook it and just be thankful our soaps are back!

I liked AMC’s opening music, better than OLTL’s, but I’m so happy that these two beloved shows are back, I’m ok with both. Long live our soaps!

I don’t care for the Cosby Show opening for OLTL but the song was OK. AMC was much better but still could have been better. I honestly don’t care though because I am just happy the shows are back. Maybe they will rework them later.

I am THRILLED that both shows have made the transition to this new emerging medium which no doubt will be followed by other networks if proven successful. That being said, I find it odd that a company such as Prospect Park which has put so much money, effort, and creativity to the reboot of these soaps could have not invested more energy, effort, and creativity into these opening sequences which after all help to translate the brand of the show. My hope is as the shows evolve and grow so to will the openings. I don’t want cheesy 80’s theme, but I think the Bold and Beautiful has the right idea and concepts about opening sequences and how it relates the brand of these soaps. COME ON Prospect Park…we want a redo!!!

I loved AMC opening and I hated OLTL..but OLTL is the better show!!

As a HUGE fan of opening sequences, these were both a bit of a letdown.

AMC
-I was surprised at the reuse of the opening title shot from the 2002-2004 scrapbook opening, quickly fading into the new shots from (I’m guessing) the Connecticut town they’re shooting in. Does this mean this version of AMC has access to all old footage to use as they see fit, for flashbacks, etc?
-The coupled shots (in both openings) were a nice idea, but will necessitate updates as the cast evolves. I somewhat resent the use of this, since it tends to tell the audience that we are supposed to view Celia/Pete as the new “it” couple, or buy deeply into Miranda/AJ’s relationship (ambiguous as it was), and we as the viewers need to invest in characters individually, especially with so many new ones, before forming opinions on the supercouples of the future.
-I was thrilled to see Joe, Adam, and Brooke included in this opening, as my understanding of the depth of their involvement was unclear.
-Griffin and Bianca were excluded from the opening. Kind of surprised, especially about Bianca, given Eden Riegel’s fan popularity and notoriety.
-AMC’s opening looks more “produced” than the OLTL one, but still looks like it was made on basic video editing software with basic effects tools, and thus… something a fan could have made for YouTube. And as a fan, who has made opening credit videos for YouTube, I honestly think I’ve done better, LOL.
-Wish AMC’s opening incorporated more photographic elements, as the scrapbook/photo album element has been recurring since its creation. The elements are there, there just could have been a little retooling to frame these motion shots as “photos” rather than frameless video clips superimposed over each other.
-A lot of new faces on the AMC opening, so I understand the incorporation of character names to help orient the audience to a potentially jarring shift of the show.
But… Lea? Jane? Evelyn? These characters didn’t even appear in this episode, except Evelyn, I believe, at the end. Maybe a title card would have been simpler as an opener, until the cast was firmly established, then showcase them by faces.
-Very much impressed with the girl cast as Miranda, I do find her worthy of the next generation of Kane Women, but really odd to see her as the ONLY permanent representation of Kane Women. Bianca could have really helped anchor Miranda in the opening.
-AMC’s struggle, which I’ve felt for years, was to feel “contemporary”, and so this slow-paced, heartwarming, feel-good, hug-like opening is another symptom of that. I am surprised it was allowed to be produced in this way, because I don’t see it as attracting a young audience. I would expect it to be a lot quicker, “edgier” and flashier. My favorite opening, which encompassed both traditional elements and showcased contemporary graphics, was AMC’s 2004-2010 opening.

OLTL
-This definitely feels “underproduced” compared to AMC’s, with the flat black background and simple fades transitioning shots from character to character.
-Again used pairings to showcase the characters. The dancing was nicely symbolic of how soap character can quickly switch dance partners, as evidenced by the jarring inclusion of Rama and pairing of her with both scoundrels Cutter and David. Wonder what the plans are for Rama’s character based on these shots.
-The younger group, all dancing “cool” in a huddle really reminds me how awkward it is to watch actors dance when the actors are not trained dancers. All the freestylin’ in the world isn’t really making me want to go to a hot party at Shelter with these college coeds.
-I did like the balance of the character order. Starting with Nora/Bo, finishing with Viki/Clint, and with Dorian/David and Todd/Blair sprinkled through the middle
-Again, there were no “graphics” to speak of, and I’m disappointed that it seems this is an even more watered down version of OLTL’s last opening, which I felt also lacked “identity”. I see a lot of people here wishing there was a rising sun title shot, and that tells me the viewers want to see something more connected to the history of the show, graphics that remind people of the larger themes of OLTL, not just who is a regular on the show at the moment. I’m the FIRST one in line to expect to see the cast featured in the opening sequence, but it should be more dazzling, prettier, more involved… showcase the “character” of the series itself.
-The song was more in the contemporary “edgy” vein that I wished AMC was, but I think the desire to attach a notable name like Snoop to the opening overrode the good sense to make the right and most fitting choice for the show, which could have been Kassie DePaiva’s version of the 80s theme song.

Overall… I’d say they both could use a remake. I’d volunteer my services, in case anyone from Prospect Park has seen my work on YouTube! Have your people call my people!

BUT anyway… Thrilled to have my soaps back!

Liked AMC, OLTL needs to change it!

I agree!

Liked AMC opening a lot. I didn’t care for the OLTL theme, whatsoever!

Both work for me. But where is Griffin on AMC?

I hardely paid any attention to the openings i was just waiting for the shows to start..
so- I have no bashing nor complaints to down this joyous moment !!

(I will leave the complaints to the breaded downers/pessimistic ornery people lol)

The AMC opening retained the photo album, and the down-home feel of all of its previous openings. I liked the location and action shots, and the song was okay too, but not as catchy and hummable as its other themes. I still wish the actors received credit though, like Julia Barr as Brooke, rather than just the character name. On the whole, a fairly decent first opening.

The OLTL opening is a whole other story. It looks cheap and cheesy in my opinion. The dancing is mostly corny, and the actors kind of look like “Why are we doing this?” It looks like they are playing Ring Around the Rosy or something. I would much prefer an opening more like AMC with locations and action shots. And the song is nondescript and doesn’t really fit. This is reminiscent of the Linda Gottlieb opening that was mostly unpopular.

But this is a first effort, and they will improve as they go on. I am glad the shows are back!

OLTL opening was good, but the song was HORRIBLE! SO BAD! I liked AMC’s opening, though.

I thought OLTL was charming and fun at the same time. Yes, reminiscent of Cosby, but I still like it.

I never liked any of AMC’s openings except the original ’70s book/instrumental, until now. I like that it’s quieter like that one and speaks to what I’d like to see from the characters: “we are the love we give.” David and Cara look adorable together! 🙂

With all of the amazing talent out on the internet, it might be a great idea to “Create an Opening Title Sequence” contest for both shows. The winner could have their titles shown for 3 or 6 months as the opening credits. It would be a great way of acknowledging their fan base even more than they already do. I know that we’re doing the happy dance that OLTL is back, but the dance falls flat for me, and Snoop’s song is nothing special.

I thought the OLTL opening was terrific. It showed all of the characters and actors we have grown to love over the years actually having a good time. Nice smiles on many of them. Catch the look on Jack’s face when he walks in on Blair and Todd together, priceless. I know the stark black background kind of makes it look like they trying to cut corners, but it does make each performer stand out more on the screen.

I like them both, but I definitely like the AMC opener and song better! But, I liked the OLTL episode better!

AMC looks like a powerpoint presentation. Absolutely hideous.
Here’s the OLTL open with the 80s theme. Much better: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IPn6R8ELAqc

Don’t like the music to it.

AMC-liked the opening, but why are the new kids introduced as couples? Those of us that have been tracking know the couples already, but they should have been mixed in the opening (A.J/Celia, etc)

OLTL-I had a bit of trouble with it yesterday, but after hearing it today, it’s growing on me-I was humming it afterwards. Having Snoop write it was smart, given his love/connection with OLTL

I think it was great and It need a change and it is just right for the New and Fresh come back. It is amazing how people can be so closed mind about something simple heck at least we got our shows back. Get over yourself and put the shout to the up. SMDH

OLTL is ROCKIN with Todd and Victor!!!!!!!

Carol Burnett Talks About Being a Superfan of ‘All My Children’ on ‘Live with Kelly and Mark’

In a heartfelt reunion, of sorts, the one and only Carol Burnett appeared on Monday March 25th episode of Live with Kelly and Mark.

Burnett had first met Kelly Ripa (Hayley) and Mark Consuelos (ex-Mateo) back when they all appeared on All My Children together. Carol played Verla Grubbs first in 1983 and then again in the 90’s.

Host Kelly Ripa (ex-Hayley, AMC) noted to Burnett that “we go back a long time”. She also described Burnett’s character of Verla Grubbs, “extraordinary in every way.”

Carol’s love for All My Children is well-documented, hence legendary soap creator, Agnes Nixon, created the role of Verla for Burnett.

Photo: ABC

Speaking on how her passion for All My Children began, Carol told Kelly and Mark, “It started with my kids. They would watch at noon. I said, ‘What are you guys doing?’ I sat down and I started to watch and I got hooked!”

When Carol’s family decided to travel through Europe during one summer, the comedic legend recalled thinking, “How am I going to last if I don’t know what’s going on in Pine Valley?” She revealed she had a friend, “who sent me a telegram to the (different hotels) on Fridays to bring me up to date.”

Photo: ABC

In a hilarious moment from the segment, Carol recalled receiving a late night telegram while in Lake Cuomo when there was a knock at her hotel room door from the hotel manager who was shaking.

Carol related what it said, “Erica is still in a coma. Mark slipped again and ran away from rehab.” As Kelly and Mark broke into laughter, Burnett continued, “Chuck has learned that Donna is carrying his baby, who was once a hooker.”

Check out Carol explaining how she became an AMC Superfan below.

Now, let us know, did you enjoy Carol as Verla Grubbs? What show do you consider yourself a Superfan of? Tell us in the comment section.

Malachy McCourt, ‘Ryan’s Hope’ and ‘All My Children’ Actor, Dead at 92

If you watched Ryan’s Hope through its 14-year-run, you know that Kevin the bartender became a beloved “member’ of the Ryan clan on the defunct ABC daytime drama series. The character of Kevin MacGuiness became so loved by the fans because of the actor who portrayed him, Malachy McCourt.

Sadly, according to his wife Diana McCourt to The New York Times, Malachy passed away on Monday from a heart condition and battling cancer. The actor was 92-years-old.

Playing Kevin on Ryan’s Hope was not much of a stretch for McCourt, because in his lifetime, he was the owner of 1950s Irish pub Malachy’s on Third Avenue in Manhattan. Known as one of the city’s great story-tellers, patrons from longshoremen to the actor Richard Harris would stop in and talk all things Irish with . On Ryan’s Hope, Kevin was best friends to “Ryan’s Bar” owner, Johnny Ryan (Bernie Barrow) and he tried to keep Delia (Ilene Kristen) on the straight and narrow.

Photo: ABC

In his soap opera career, McCourt also was widely-known for his role of Father Clarence McCourt on All My Children especially come Christmastime. Was Clarence, actually St. Nick? That was always the proverbial question. McCourt also appeared on the New York soaps: One Life To Live, Search For Tomorrow and Another World. Other roles included: Devil’s Own, Brewster’s Millions, The Molly Maguires, and Starman, to name

Later in 2006, Malachy ran for governor of the state of New York as a Green Party candidate. He tackled social issues of the time including being an advocate for gay and lesbian groups to march in the annual St. Patrick’s Day Parade.

Photo: ABC

McCourt’s childhood was recounted within his brother Frank McCourt’s Pulitzer Prize-winning memoir Angela’s Ashes, which detailed their mother’s attempt to raise the four of their surviving seven children in poverty in Limerick, Ireland. Later, Malachy wrote his own memoirs: 1998’s Monk Swimming, and 2000’s Singing My Him Song.

Malachy is survived by his aforementioned wife, Diana, daughter Siobhan McCourt; sons Malachy Jr., Conor and Cormac; stepdaughter Nina Galin; nine grandchildren; and one great-grandson.
