Another Slap in the Face to Soaps: The Chew's EP states, "People don't have time to sit for an hour and watch a story!"

In another upsetting, annoying, slap into the face to daytime soap viewers and especially those of All My Children, (who loyally have watched their favorite characters and actors, day in and day out) the executive producer of The Chew, (AMC’s replacement) let it be known to the Associated Press that he feels no one has any time to watch an hour scripted show on television anymore.  All of this went down, plus some other gathered quotes from the AP during a dress rehearsal in New York for The Chew, as they get ready for their debut in just over three weeks time.   But there were two sides to this, as a few others interviewed for this piece, fessed up as to why The Chew won’t work with daytime fans!  Here are the key excerpts below.

Gordon Elliot, The Chew’s executive producer (pictured here) offered up his position on the cancellation of All My Children , which can only benefit him and his show, The Chew! “People don’t have time to sit for an hour and watch a story. ABC came to me and said we’ve had great success with ‘The View’ but we’d like to get into food. I thought ‘The View,’ food, ‘The Chew.’ We do more than just chop and chat. Our co-hosts are relatable.”

“I really don’t believe that disgruntled refugees from All My Children and One Life to Live will swallow The Chew,” said TV analyst Shari Anne Brill. “This is about how it’s become more expensive to produce scripted content. The audience has shifted.”

Robin Blum, 61, has been watching All My Children since it went on the air 41 years ago and added this pertinent perspective on the soaps and how important they are to people’s lives. “AMC got me through two childbirths, a brain tumor, a broken leg, several tropical storms when I lived in the Virgin Islands and 9/11 in New York City.  It is not an entertainment form that has outlived its usefulness. It’s idiotic that the programmers are now substituting The Chew. How barbaric, for what has essentially become a part of so many people’s lives and has created so many moments of high emotion, tears and laughter.”

Then ABC Daytime President,  Brian Frons added his two-sense to the mix,  by stating that the bulk of women viewers aren’t watching soaps. They’re watching chat, reality, entertainment and style.  “It was time to look at programming for the majority of women who were watching TV.”

We find this extremely offensive to knock down the show that you are replacing with comments from the executive producer to try to instill your key message to the demographic! Enough said.

Mr. Elliott I don’t know why they wouldn’t since no one is working you knuckle-head!!

I will NOT be watching The Chew or The Revolution! I have been a loyal soap fan and a viewer of AMC and OLTL for 24 year’s and my loyalties’ are and will remain with my soap’s and the soap actor’s! I will never get tired of seeing them. I will instead be watching my soap’s and my favorite actor’s on the internet once the soap’s move online! Also, I just wanted to say that women are not the only people who watch the soap’s, men such as myself also watch!

I guess you are right, I don’t have time to watch an hour show and guess which ones it will be? You are right again, the Chew and Revolution. If my time is so short, I am glad that I have found that time thank s to ABC. I use to waste most of my time watching your shows. I was wasting my time on ABC but now I am doing it with your competitors CBS and NBC, etc…….Thank you for clearing and cleaning up my time schedule and calendar. Now I have more time to waste on the other stations. Thank you ABC for being so helpful. By the way, my DVR thanks you too! Just in case you are wondering I went to Disneyland 6 times last year and 6 times the year before, but guess where I am not going this year…….I guess I must draw you a picture since I have so much time to waste……

“People don’t have time to sit for an hour and watch a story!”

Really?

I’m not an AMC gal, but I am a long-time soap fan and always find that time for my shows of choice, even if it’s by way of DVR and a few hours on the weekend. What I DON’T have time for is another lame ass talk show filled with people who have obtained some level of celebrity status and now think the world at large cares to hear their opinions on a daily basis.

If I wanted opinions on a topic I could get them by…wait for it…going outside the house and finding people with whom to have a conversation. What a novel idea, right? But what I cannot get at any local dining establishment, watering hole, or barbershop is the type of entertainment only a good soap can provide. If someone really had this burning to desire to listen to people talk about food for an hour that person would watch something like…oh, I don’t know…The FOOD Network. It is foolish to think that The Chew is in anyway comparable to AMC, and even more foolish to think that AMC fans will be tuning in. Poor decision making has its consequences.

Nice article, Fairman. Make sure to give us the full report when the abysmal ratings come out.

Couldn’t of said it better myself! I have no intentions of watching this show. The preview commercials are sooo bad!

They appeal to the least common denominator and insult the intelligence of the American woman.

This is a very sad commentary on America if this is true. I don’t believe it is. We need fantasy, not just reality shows.

peggy

but they have time to sit for an hour and watch the “the chew” this is incredibly stupid…why don’t they just show dead air until prime time if this is the case? Obviously no one is home to watch….so what does it matter. Daytime has the same problem as primetime no matter the time slot appointment tv is dying people want to watch shows when they want to see them so the rating system is so incredibly flawed and its ridiculous that people in the business of tv aren’t trying for better accuracy in ratings

So true I DVR everything! Very rarely do I watch a show as it airs.

Hah, I just posted my comment, then saw yours. Yes, it sure is stupid!

Anything said by the network or someone representing ‘The Chew’ just digs a bigger and bigger hole for the show to fall into. People don’t have time to watch an hour story? So I am guessing people will have even less time to watch 101 ways to fold a napkin on ‘The Chew.’ The soaps don’t have the same ratings they did 10 years ago? So what. Prime time as a whole doesn’t have the ratings they did 10 years ago. But any prime time network or cable show would love to have the consistent ratings that any one of the soaps does. Soaps are dinosaurs? Tell that to Tim Burton and Johnny Depp who are fans of ‘Dark Shadows’ and have already started filming the Dark Shadows movie in London. Frons (who makes CBS president Les Mooves look like a cuddly teddy bear) and company can try to spin things any way they like…the truth is more along the lines that they simply want soaps gone from their network. Some people buy into their spin and wag their fingers at soap fans for not accepting reality. But I doubt soap fans will never accept Frons’ load of manure.

SO True.. and Brian Fronz and all the rest need to be FIRED!!!!

I believe Gordon Elliot is a veteran of daytime… did he have his own show once upon a time. I think he has produced a lot ot television, broadcast and cable, maybe even for The Food Network. Still… One would help he could defend and promote THE CHEW without the knocks on those of us who do make time for what we enjoy, in this case, ALL MY CHILDREN. While I can swallow the argument about economics forcing a change on the daytime landscape (but not a change warranting cancellation of legacy programming that is hardly past prime), I cannot or will not do THE CHEW. It offers nothing new, nothing I cannotg et on any number of other similar programs. AMC gives me a new story every day!

Gordon Elliot is a has been TV Host and The Chew looks like a 3rd rate The View for fat chefs.

lol but I have Never watched the Chew and NEV ER Will.. 2 hours of ABC is ALL i do 10 hours a week..

I don’t have time to watch your stupid Chew or stupid Revolution show. I wont be watching, so that is 1 less viewer/rating for your show. If you think I will sit and watch The Chew, you are seriously delusional. Good luck begging for viewers, cause I doubt you’ll get many!! Ciao!

Many of us share your opinion on this,Mike,I can’t wait to see these so called replacement shows tank! What will ABC do then? Ha Ha Ha!

I give ABC 2 hrs a day 10 hrs a week.. I no longer watch and as they kill off my soaps, I move to CBS and NBC.. love CBS now and NBC nighttime.

The Chew is going to bomb and bomb fast. Those millions of us who watch the soaps will not be tuning in. Also, there are too many food, design, lifestyle, talk shows are tv. The market is saturated with them, and they do not, nor will they ever have the staying power of soap operas. This genre is passed from generation to generation. I can’t believe what fools the ABC programming execs are. I can’t wait until all of you are fired for idiocy.

Want Brian Fronz FIRED NOW. And he had the stupidity to make the Chew Creator VP of Programming.. WTW

i make time to watch ALL MY CHILDREN …. i will not for THE CHEW !!! I record it or either watch online … but won’t have too with the chew .. not interested !!!!

So women don’t have time to sit down for an hour and watch a soap but they have time to watch another food show. We don’t have enough food shows? I tape my soaps so when I get home after a long day at work I can sit down forget reality, have a cup of coffee and relax. So much for that special time.

He is stupid and did not know what he was talking about just like Fronz..

i will not watch any shows replacing my soaps. i love those shows and so do my parents and my children. i will not watch a cooking show or talk show. there are to many of them out there already and i do not watch them. yes, i dvr my shows. and watch them when my daughter comes to visit.

Why do these people think that if I don’t have time for scripted shows that I would have time for this crap?? People who have been loyal viewers of AMC and OLTL have been happy to carve out two hours of their day to watch their shows, myself so totally included. I have the hour during my lunch break to watch AMC but ABSOLUTELY WILL NOT WATCH THE CHEW.!!! I am not interested in a food show and if I were, I would go to the food network to see one

well I have all day and night too if I want to watch TV 24 hours I can,and I love daytime soaps better then any other TV show, I watch TV from 5am to 10pm 7 days aweek,I love TV,you can go all over the world on TV and its free, and you can learn from TV as well as a book and computer ….TV is great. soaps is wonderful…..

For ABC/Disney to cancel two iconic shows that have had a LOYAL fanbase for over 80 years collectively and to replace All My Children with a program called “The
Chew” is ludricous. It is an insult to millions of fans who are already boycotting all things ABC and Disney. No, Mr. Elliot and Mr. Frons, we will NOT be watching your new show. We will be watching and directing all of our efforts towards Prospect Park. That is where our loyalty will be — no longer with ABC/Disney. We were kicked in the teeth with the news that two beloved soaps are on the chopping block. This is what a loyal viewership gets? Fine. Buh-bye, ABC and Disney.

ABC AND FRONZ Insulted their viewers and are Now Laughing about it!!!! Can’t wait to see who gets the LAST Laugh…

no, he’s a little confused. We won’t waste our time watching his stupid show or anything else they want to put in place of AMC.

I have watched amc from the start, and I will not watch the chew,if they thought people were not home to watch amc, how will they watch the chew? This is a very big mistake on abc part.

I find it extremely offensive that those who made these comments base them on their opinions only. They are looking at viewers who may be the 18 to possibly 49 age women, not those who are in a different age bracket. There have been children who have grown up with these shows, women who have watched theseshows for 40 years(and their husbands and children). In a nation who has such major problems with obesity and diabetes,to name a few, another cooking show, the very idea is ridiculous. The wonderful actors/actresses,as well as millions of devoted viewers suffer due to your lack of finances and inane ideas of what is needed,as well as people dont have time to watch an hour show is not right. Many people nowadays Tivo the shows they watch for the time they can devote to watching their shows. As far as these particular soaps, they taught those who watched many things,as well as enlightened their days,What about those shut in nursing homes who have been watching for years, not all are seniors. The situation being reality shows, cooking shows, etc that you suggested are boring.Looking at the shows on other channels, their are people who wait an entire year to watch White Collar,Covert Affairs,Royal Pains,Burn Notice, etc. People watched The Sopranos, for example, that were in uproar when it ended. Hopefully, when you see no profit margin increase from The Chew you will change your minds and be willing to re-air the favored soaps…but will it be too late then? There are people who normally are not strongly opinioned on matters who have joined the bandwagon to fight for the soaps to continue on,its amazing, its a shame your finances are more important then the wants of the viewers.I can only hope ,that being said, that you will reconsider the decisions made on this matter, and reinstate the soaps, after a short hiatus. I apologize if any of my statement offends, however I as well as many other people do now feel the need to speak up.Thank you for your time to read this. GAF

Speak It!!! They are stupid!!

I’ve watched All My Children & One Life To Live since I was 5 yrs old in ’71 with my g. grandmother, grandmother, mother, g.aunt and aunt! I have since lost each one of them over the years and these shows and other memories help me stay connected to them. I have not watched ABC with the exception of my soaps since April 15, 2011 and I can promise you that I won’t ever again! I have seen many a show cancelled over the course of my 40+ years and never has it affected me in such a way to join in a movement to try to keep it on. I have been a staunch supporter of ABC for years and even though the new primetime programming looks pretty interesting, I refuse to give ABC any more of my viewing pleasure. They have truly underestimated the people who would/ do sit for an hour watching scripted drama! I will take Sept. 23rd off from work (unpaid might I add) to pay homage to the show, cast and crew that has been my family for 40 years! ABC HAS TRULY MADE THE BIGGEST MISTAKE IN THEIR ENTIRE HISTORY!!!!!

Well I do have time to watch AMC…..but I will most definitely be finding something else to do after 9/23 during that time slot. And after January when OLTL goes I will no longer have time for ABC at all. I’d rather set and stare at a blank tv before giving this network anymore of my time. Oh yeah…..thanks so much for those commercials of The Spew while AMC is on…..it really backs up my decision not to watch….this show looks stupid. If I wanted to watch a cooking show I’d watch something much better on Food Network and if I want to see a talk show there are hundreds to choose from on every other channel. So thanks again ABC…..you really know how to treat your loyal veiwers!

Also, I either mute or change the channel entirely while watching soapnet when the SCREWY CHEW commercial comes on, so what does that tell you???? If it wasn’t such a perfectly good television, I would’ve thrown something through it every time that stupid commercial comes on! I pray that I can continue to show restraint because you all have already cost me enough already!!!!!!!

I know a lot of people dvr the soaps to watch later, as I have been recording mine for say over 25 years. I make time for two soaps a day, AMC and OLTL. I will not make time for “The Chew”. These two hours are my time for relaxation and escaping from reality. Actors don’t go to school to learn to do reality, they go to school to learn how to act. Respect the talent of the people we watch every day. Watching other telling me what I should be doing is not an escape by any means. It’s just like being at work. I think ABC is making a huge mistake.

Mine too. And General Hospital.. I have recorded my shows for years. Never missed an episode. WWAAAYYY before SoapNet..

It is so interesting to watch people like Elliot and Frons continually dig their own graves deeper and deeper. These are supposed to be knowledgeable people in their field? They both insult not only the soap opera fans each time, but ALL viewers with their ever so incredibly ignorant comments! ABC/Disney has chosen to go their own way and TELL the viewers what they need and want on tv.

Really Elliot, you could not think of a name for a show that was appealing? A cheap knock-off of the View, is more like it. You insult viewers by implying they have the attention span of a flea, and yet expect them to watch a show called The Chew? Wow, such intelligence and artisitic invention (heavy sarcasm intended.)

Frons, I think you are a stooge and look at money only. How else could someone so easily make such glib, moronic comments making themself look like the biggest fool in the business. You must have a clause for bonuses that the more frequent statements you make insulting the viewers the more you receive in your paycheck. What do you really think your future will be in the industry once ABC gives you the ax over the massive failures? Do you think your boss will put their livilihood on the lone for you?

The more I read comments from those involved in this fiasco, the more I wonder if this is a deliberate attempt to destroy the network. This is no longer about disgruntled soap opera fans! It’s about networks trying to force what they think viewers should watch upon us like pablum to a baby. When the reality is, let’s make more money to put in our pockets. The viewers are stupid folk who will swallow whatever we say. Huge mistake!

As Mr. T would say, “I pity the fools!”

“They” said the soaps couldn’t be saved…they weren’t “worth” saving…Well, Mr. Elliott, when The Chew-ew fails, will YOUR army of “fans” come to the rescue? HA! Seriously CAN NOT wait to see what happens next!!

Another jackass trying to dictate what we should be wanting to watch. You’re killing ABC with all this unwanted talk, but, of course, its your network—–so you will do what you want no matter what the public wants. If I don’t have time to watch an hour or two of soap operas, then I surely don’t have time to watch your new talk shows. I will be watching reruns on any of the myriad of cable channels now available—–goodbye ABC daytime.

Last time I checked, I’m “people”. I DVR my One Life every day and watch the whole show every night. The ugly truth is, my fellow fans, is that we are not the KIND of people that ABC wants anymore. Life in 21st century USA is all about money and demos, and to hell with loyalty. Keep up the boycott of all ABC/Disney companies, and they will find out how much it hurts to lose OUR kind of people.

QUOTE: “Then ABC Daytime President, Brian Frons added his two-sense to the mix, by stating that the bulk of women viewers aren’t watching soaps. They’re watching chat, reality, entertainment and style. “It was time to look at programming for the majority of women who were watching TV.””

I DO NOT WATCH “chat”, “reality”, “entertainment” or “style” … my preference for 40+ years has been “ALL MY CHILDREN” and the trials/tribulations/heartaches, etc. of the citizens of Pine Valley! Once, “AMC” is off the air, my television set will never again watch any shows on ABC.

As IF Fronz knows ANY women!!! He doesn’t have a CLUE what women watch!! OR HE WOULD NOT HAVE CANCELLED AMC AND OLTL.. A stupid fella.

people dont have time to sit down to watch a story for an hour, which is completely not true, but they have time to sit down and watch ANOTHER talk show. Yeah, because that totally makes sense.

This Chew show is not a new concept….they aren’t re-inventing the wheel. So quit holding this crappy show up to some high standard. No one is going to watch this crap!! Especially not any of the AMC or OLTL crowd…..so, don’t count on those millions of viewers that ABC daytime currently has. Oh, and for the last 28 years, this viewer, has had two hours out of my day to devote to AMC & OLTL….whether it be watching live, recording with a vcr or a dvr…..but I can guarantee you that I will not be wasting 1 minute to view your stupid Chew!!

These discussions above are so contradicting it makes me sick! Do they actually think people are stupid? 1) “People don’t have time to sit for an hour and watch a story.” – Does this EP actually think if they didn’t have time, there would magically be time for The Chew? 2) “ABC came to me and said we’ve had great success with ‘The View’, but we would like food.” The truth is ABC cancelled All My Children because they felt it was to costly to keep on. Not because of a drop in viewers! We are all here! 3) “I thought, ‘The View”, food, ‘The Chew.'” Really???? How original. Great imagination Mr EP Elliot. (That’s not contradicting, but it just caught my eye). 4) I don’t appreciate being called a disgruntled REFUGEE (all intentions well). Disgruntled, yes. Refugee no way as it IS going online. However, you are right, we will NOT swallow The Chew. If we even tried, we would spit it right back out! Shari Anne, the audience has definitely NOT shifted. ABC simply need a much CHEAPER show to air. I believe the proper word is “greed.” 5) To Brian Frons: As far as sticking your two cents in, I would love to be able to tell you exactly where to stick those two cents. You are dead wrong with everything you say.

Amen, Sistah!!

Why would I want to watch yet anther stupid Reality/talk show when I don’t watch the ones that are currently on? My taste in is geared toward scripted shows such as GH, OLTL and AMC. The only thing I’d change is enough with the neverending storylines. Each storyline would get to have a beginning, middle and an end.

People have to work. I wouldn’t hold anything against the viewers if they have to DVR the soap. This is exactly what ABC is doing. Penalizing viewers for having to work.

I will not be watching your dam show. Last thing we need is a reality/food show. Nothing will take the place of ALL MY CHILDREN!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

ABC needs to just fire people who dont know what stupid thing to say or do next… They need to start with Frons(who we keep hoping will drink the kool aide and die) to this clown..

This Yahoo had a daytime talk show that failed before. Yes, Paula Deen’s show works for the FOOD Network and he produces it. Broadcast is a different ballgame. He failed in syndication…what makes him think he will do well on ABC?

It will be like The Talk. One person will rule the roost, the rest of the chicks will fly the coop and he will be stuck with the wife of the network president, just like Sara Gilbert. Then it will be cancelled! Time is ticking for The Talk. I still miss As The World Turns!

I can’t believe how stupid ABC execs (FRONS) can be. Or Gordon Elliott. IF women can’t be at home one hour to watch a soap, then how can we be expected to watch an hour of The Chew. I personally will NEVER watch the Chew. And there are millions of other soap fans who feel the same way. Maybe ABC will realize their mistakes and try to get us back into the fold. TOO LATE!!!!!!! We are going to be loyal to our soaps wherever they are. Suits me fine to watch online. SO I’M SAYING GOODBYE TO ABC AND THE CHEW. Don’t let the door hit you on the way out!!!!!!!

Who does MR. FRONS think he his speaking for??? AMC and OLTL had the highest viewers in the history of these soaps 641,000!!! I hope all of the fans BOYCOTT this new programing and show the BIG SHOTS they don’t know what they are talking about. BYE Bye CHEW!!! I hope you are history before you get started..

Yet again, these individuals demonstrate that they don’t know what the daytime viewing audience wants. I MAKE time in my day to watch an hour-long story. What I don’t have time for is an hour of mindless chit-chat masquerading as “informative” garbage on style or reality television. Soap fans MAKE that effort to watch their shows. Can daytime talk shows like “The View” make that same claim about their viewers?

Thank you, ABC. I won’t be watching The Chew. I will be finding a network that does show a daytime drama in the one o’clock ET time slot.

You just got burried

HAHAHAHAHA! So now they are just plain mean.

Gordon Elliott you mean spirited man

I will NOT be watching The Chew or anything on ABC!!!!! This show looks stupid and we have a million reality, food and lifestyle shows on TV! We want drama! Soaps have gotten a lot of people through hard times because soaps draw you our of your daily life and problems and during that hour you become a part of the show. All My Children is the only soap I watch and I have watched it for over 8 years every day. AMC has gotten me through 2 back surgeries, a pregnancy and an axiety/panic disorder. My soap is the only thing I can watch and forget about the world around me and today…people NEED that! I hope ABC chokes on the chew!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I Will NOT be watching the Chew EVER!

I started watching All My Children with my mother when I was a kid and have remained loyal for 25 years. I challenge ABC/Disney to find another show that has that kind of loyalty. You are making a huge mistake and will not win any of us back with some some idiotic show named after masticating – this is one I can’t swallow.

Viewers don’t have time to watch a scripted story? Then why would viewers have time to watch a reality/talk show during that same hour? I’m tired of seeing statements that insult the soap genre and its viewers. I do have time to watch soaps, during my lunch break. I take time out for soaps, and enjoy watching the continuous stories and the characters, and the ebb and flow of each story arc. I definitely don’t, and won’t, take time out for reality and talk shows that replace the soaps I love, and I’m in the supposedly coveted demo that they claim to understand so well. I’ll be reading a book or finding other scripted television during that hour if soaps aren’t on.

The Chew will tank and frons will be eating crow. I thank god for Prospect Park, otherwise my beloved AMC would be gone forever. May it have twice the success online that way frons and company will see the error of their ways.

Producer Gordon [Id]iot isn’t very bright to insult and alienate potential viewers before The Chew airs. The hostility and illogic of his statement demonstrates poor judgment and diminished insight. Perhaps he’s feeling desperate.

Many excellent posts in this thread. People will make time for stories and moving performances, as they have for centuries. It’s information that is the cheap commodity today, thanks to the internet and search engines.

The best The Chew can do is to sensationalize or fabricate controversy hoping to attract viewers, like The View. Regardless, there will be no substance or information you couldn’t find elsewhere by searching the internet. In other words, “People don’t have time to sit for an hour and wa[ste their time]!”

If we dont have to time to sit and watch a soap for an hour what makes you think we will have an hour to watch a show about how dish towels make nice napkins as well? Give me a break….You have pissed off too many loyal soap opera viewers to EVER get any ratings for your show. My only wish is for The Chew to fail miserably!! The truth is we are SICK to death of reality television but hollywood is greedy and is only thinking about MONEY! If One Life To LIve was spared due to the fact its ratings are HUGE I might not have been so angry. You are taking anything that requires the least bit of creativity and tossing it in the trash ! Every time Carla Halls face comes at me on the tv screen during a promo I want to run and hide! Get a grip ABC…BIG mistake!! and PS…I will MAKE the time to continue to watch my soaps ONLINE!!!!

on another note ..i am in the middle of flooding from hurricane Irene and I STILL make time at night when i am relaxing to watch my soaps…and if i want to see a grown man walking around in clogs in a kitchen I will buy my husband a pair!!

Gordon Elliot and whomever else is involved in The Chew, can say whatever they well please, BUT the proof will be in the pudding, when their ratings come in, as there is no doubt in my mind they will be quite low. I am honestly not saying that as a disgruntled fan, but as someone who does not see this program as a winner at that time of day and on network TV. I think the ratings will be as bad as the name (The Chew), and I don’t see it remaining on air for more than six months, a year tops.

I resent someone telling me what “I don’t have time for” its more of the training method of Brian Frons… tell the little woman what she wants while we good ole boys have milked the cash cow of this genre of story telling .. tell this idiot after commercials the show does not run an entire hour straight, so, people have time to read stories however they don’t have time to watch them? Well hell lets inform the New York times to stop that best sellers list and hey while you’re at it lets burn down all the libraries… He’s hoping to gain the soap audience by insulting them? What I don’t have time for is to watch some cooking show.

I don’t have time to sit and watch this darn show period!!!!!!!!!! Who cares about food. Heck no one wants to get fat!

Sorry, but i have to agree it’s too hard to sit for an hour –FOR A CLASSROOM OF KINDERGARTNERS!!! Again, the IQ of these network brass must be about 85.
Once I was more than 6 years old I could sit for an hour. Not you, Mr. Frons? Maybe your momma didn’t teach you right or you have ADD. There is medication for that condition though, so I hope the ABC brass find some before they get rid of all the dramas.
If I had to make up excuses for why I cancelled a popular show I could do alot better than that. Really? People can’t sit for an hour. That’s some lame excuse a 7 year old might throw together. What idiots!

WHO SITS FOR AN HOUR ANYWAY?????
I can do several things while watching MY SOAPS-I can also watch/listen from the kitchen while cooking/baking; the bedroom while making the bed; the bathroom while cleaning; downstairs while doing the laundry…I multi-task like MOST people who watch SOAPS—-gee, WE have brains??? I, however WON’T even LISTEN while any other ABC show is on…..since my ABC/DISNEY CHANNELS ate LOCKED OFF on all5 of our TV’s!

Carol Burnett Talks About Being a Superfan of ‘All My Children’ on ‘Live with Kelly and Mark’

In a heartfelt reunion, of sorts, the one and only Carol Burnett appeared on Monday March 25th episode of Live with Kelly and Mark.

Burnett had first met Kelly Ripa (Hayley) and Mark Consuelos (ex-Mateo) back when they all appeared on All My Children together. Carol played Verla Grubbs first in 1983 and then again in the 90’s.

Host Kelly Ripa (ex-Hayley, AMC) noted to Burnett that “we go back a long time”. She also described Burnett’s character of Verla Grubbs, “extraordinary in every way.”

Carol’s love for All My Children is well-documented, hence legendary soap creator, Agnes Nixon, created the role of Verla for Burnett.

Speaking on how her passion for All My Children began, Carol told Kelly and Mark, “It started with my kids. They would watch at noon. I said, ‘What are you guys doing?’ I sat down and I started to watch and I got hooked!”

When Carol’s family decided to travel through Europe during one summer, the comedic legend recalled thinking, “How am I going to last if I don’t know what’s going on in Pine Valley?” She revealed she had a friend, “who sent me a telegram to the (different hotels) on Fridays to bring me up to date.”

In a hilarious moment from the segment, Carol recalled receiving a late night telegram while in Lake Cuomo when there was a knock at her hotel room door from the hotel manager who was shaking.

Carol related what it said, “Erica is still in a coma. Mark slipped again and ran away from rehab.” As Kelly and Mark broke into laughter, Burnett continued, “Chuck has learned that Donna is carrying his baby, who was once a hooker.”

Check out Carol explaining how she became an AMC Superfan below.

Now, let us know, did you enjoy Carol as Verla Grubbs? What show do you consider yourself a Superfan of? Tell us in the comment section.

Malachy McCourt, ‘Ryan’s Hope’ and ‘All My Children’ Actor, Dead at 92

If you watched Ryan’s Hope through its 14-year-run, you know that Kevin the bartender became a beloved “member’ of the Ryan clan on the defunct ABC daytime drama series. The character of Kevin MacGuiness became so loved by the fans because of the actor who portrayed him, Malachy McCourt.

Sadly, according to his wife Diana McCourt to The New York Times, Malachy passed away on Monday from a heart condition and battling cancer. The actor was 92-years-old.

Playing Kevin on Ryan’s Hope was not much of a stretch for McCourt, because in his lifetime, he was the owner of 1950s Irish pub Malachy’s on Third Avenue in Manhattan. Known as one of the city’s great story-tellers, patrons from longshoremen to the actor Richard Harris would stop in and talk all things Irish with . On Ryan’s Hope, Kevin was best friends to “Ryan’s Bar” owner, Johnny Ryan (Bernie Barrow) and he tried to keep Delia (Ilene Kristen) on the straight and narrow.

In his soap opera career, McCourt also was widely-known for his role of Father Clarence McCourt on All My Children especially come Christmastime. Was Clarence, actually St. Nick? That was always the proverbial question. McCourt also appeared on the New York soaps: One Life To Live, Search For Tomorrow and Another World. Other roles included: Devil’s Own, Brewster’s Millions, The Molly Maguires, and Starman, to name

Later in 2006, Malachy ran for governor of the state of New York as a Green Party candidate. He tackled social issues of the time including being an advocate for gay and lesbian groups to march in the annual St. Patrick’s Day Parade.

McCourt’s childhood was recounted within his brother Frank McCourt’s Pulitzer Prize-winning memoir Angela’s Ashes, which detailed their mother’s attempt to raise the four of their surviving seven children in poverty in Limerick, Ireland. Later, Malachy wrote his own memoirs: 1998’s Monk Swimming, and 2000’s Singing My Him Song.

Malachy is survived by his aforementioned wife, Diana, daughter Siobhan McCourt; sons Malachy Jr., Conor and Cormac; stepdaughter Nina Galin; nine grandchildren; and one great-grandson.
