This morning on ABC’s The View, Barbara Walters made a special announcement that was emotional in many ways as the TV icon is departing The View as co-host on Friday May 16th.   As Walters had told the audience last spring that in a year she would be saying goodbye and that time is almost is next month.

Walters who is 84, will be given all sorts of salutes including a two-hour special highlighting her life and career on ABC, from 9-11 p.m. ET on May 16th.

She will continue to executive produce The View, and will be a “lifelong member of ABC News, contributing as news warrants,” Walters told the audience this morning.  ABC News Headquarters in New York City will be named in Walter’s honor during a dedication ceremony that will take place this spring.  The View will toast Walters’ career with a week-long celebration beginning on Monday May 12th.

“I don’t want to get too weepy,” she said.  “I love being on with the two of you,” Walters said about her co-hosts Jenny McCarthy and Sherri Shepherd, and then went on to say about Whoopi Goldberg, “I cannot tell you how much emotion and love I have for Whoopi and admiration.”

Walters said she feels “sad” knowing there are about 30 episodes left for her, but added “It feels right for me. I love this show. I  love what we’ve done.  Itwill continue without me.  But I also know that it’s time.  I don’t want people to say, ‘Is she still here?'”

Babs should have retired years ago, the woman is senile. LOL.

LMAO…Sad to say but I find and always have found her to be a quite annoying little old lady..

She looks wonderful for 84 . She is still a vitally strong woman. God bless her. We should all have her looks and stamina into our 80’s. Having no money worries helps too.

LMAO, Barbara Walters is very annoying and a has been.

@Jessica…She may be…or have gotten…annoying but she’s far from a has-been. The woman is a pioneer for females in media…has a prestigious background…has interviewed everyone from foreign dignitaries to local politicians, royalty, celebrities…has traveled the world. Very accomplished woman. Still is.

and Jessica… hopefully one day you will reach 84… and perhaps have some respect for elders.

I agree. It will be sad too… I liked her being around and her shows ever since i was a kid…. 50 now and hope to make life as long and healthy as she has.

Cheers Barbara !

She is an amazing woman and for 84 is remarkable! Think of the long hours it takes to prepare for a show, non the less get up, get ready, and have the energy to do it every day. 84! think about it a moment.

In addition, it must be very hard for her to acknowledge that it’s time to retire. WE ALL want to stay relevant in todays world don’t we? Imagine how it feels at 84 ? It must have been a tough emotional decision to make. The question looming in her mind…what next…. at 84… it would be tough to think there is an encore to match what she has accomplished over the years.

Thanks Barbra, you have been a true inspiration…may be all have the chance to someday, at 84, feel..hmmm maybe its time to retire! HATS OFF! 🙂

Amen!

Barbra deserves all the kudos she receives!!

Is “The View” a soap opera? Did BW ever appear on a soap opera? Does she or has she ever watched a soap opera? Can she name the 4 remaining network soaps? Does she know which soap is on her network? If the answer is no to all those questions, then Barbara Walters should check into General Hospital.

You know, I have to agree – even this page Site is getting to the point where it’s not (strictly) about the soaps – 2013 was a roller coaster ride for fans of ABC’s All My Children and One Life to Live – between the short lived on-line revivals of both and the swift downward spiral and ATROCIOUS behavior of Prospect Park which many of us will never forgive not forget – and what the heck does Barbara Walters of The View have to do with ANY of this – and frankly, no disrespect intended to her but really who gives a rat’s rear end if she retires, she must have more money than any newscaster, and when these people put up money to save some of our soaps, maybe then I’ll care.

I wish Barbara Walters all the best in her life.Plus i could see her doing specials from time to time.

Barbara Walters is a great news/reporter and has brought us many great interviews with some of the worlds most powerful people..

The View is nothing but old hens clucking for an hour about gossip and unimportant stuff..
My grandpa would call The View the Hen House … 🙂

Your grandpa was wise. Lol. Listening to a bunch of women clucking about politics and religion, when none of them had a clue what they were talking about on either subject grew more shrill and grating with each passing year. Consider some of the hostesses…Rosie…jenny…Sherri….do any of them honestly expect or believe that anyone cares about their take on serious world events is?? LOL. As for Barbara….she admitted in her own book, her own words, and different times on air…that she slept her way to the top. Now for any of you who are going to attack me or call me rude….please remember….she admitted this in print and on national television. She rambles on about all her affairs…several with married men…and sounds quite proud of it. She is long past relevance and retirement. For all being a “good journalist” is worth (being a mouthpiece for pre scripted material and being forced to read it off a teleprompter) …I guess she was one. Her probing and often awkward questions to celebrities were sometimes quite entertaining in an uncomfortable way, so I do want to thank her for that. And she looks real good for her age. So all the best to Babs!!

At 84 yrs old and still in the business, she deserves the recognition. I wish her all the best!

All praise to Barbara Walters and her 50 year broadcasting career. Too often we forget the role of the female journalist that she entered back then. She was expected to report on Jackie Kennedy’s hats, rather than hard news (i.e. Cuban Missile Crisis). From those days and with much adversity, Barbara has carved out the role of a female journalist (heck, she also helped shape the quality of journalism in general). She is well deserving of the hoopla and honors, which will be bestowed upon her. Having said that, it is time for her to walk away from The View. I’ll leave it at that, in kindness to Ms. Walters.

While I no longer watch anything on the alphabet network, I must acknowledge Barbara Walters for her amazing career. She is a television pioneer. Her accomplishments helped secure a place for women in journalism and women in the business world in general. While the nay sayers threw obstacle after obstacle at her, she persevered, held her head high and delivered high quality reporting year after year. Thank you Ms. Walters for your hard work, your perseverance, and for helping sharp the broadcast industry. I wish you tremendous happiness and peace in your retirement.

No offense meant here, but regarding this topic I only have three words. IT’S ABOUT TIME.

Meant AGREE!!!!

She will be missed. PLEASE DO NOT bring Rosie back……. Enjoy the show. Need to educate Jenny somewhat.

good luck – enjoy your retirement- take in a few soaps!

“this is just a snippet of OUR Babs on the horizon”

I sing the body electric
I celebrate the me yet to come
I toast to my own reunion
When I become one with the sun

And I’ll look back on Venus
I’ll look back on Mars
And I’ll burn with the fire of ten million stars
And in time
And in time
We will all be stars

Dear Lord : doesn’t Babs pause for refrain… she listens to herself.. more than any one else does

good Lord! honestly… Move Babs

There has been lot of soapy projects coming to life and in the works of late, and now comes word that Kim Kardashian is executive producing a new series in development for Netflix called Calabasas.

After a bidding war last week, it looks like Netflix cemented the development deal from Kim, and her producing partners American Horror Story co-star Emma Roberts (pictured below) and Pretty Little Liars creators Marlene King and Alexandra Milchan.

The concept of Calabasas is based on the book If You Lived Here You’d Be Famous By Now by Via Bleidner.  King set to write the adaptation and will serve as the series showrunner.

According to Deadline, Calabasas is said to be in the vein of primetime young teen and young adult soaps the O.C. and Beverly Hills 90210. The story follows “Via, a 16-year-old sheltered Midwestern Catholic school girl whose world is turned upside down when her family moves and she’s forced to transfer to the fast world of Calabasas High where nothing is as it appears and where everyone is trying to be someone else. It’s a place where dreams come true … but not without complications and sometimes unforeseen consequences.”

Ellen Travolta Makes Another Return to General Hospital

If General Hospital’s Chase (Josh Swickard) and Brook Lynn’s (Amanda Setton) nuptials are on, you didn’t think Grandma Gloria Cerullo would miss out on the festivities, now did you?

Casting news from Soap Opera Digest reveals that Ellen Travolta is back taping scenes that will air the week of May 13th on the ABC daytime drama series.  When viewers learned that Carmine Cerullo, was also on his way back to Port Charles, now in the face and body of actor George Russo, it only made sense that Grandma Gloria would join Grandpa Cerullo. Look for them both mid-May.

As most people know, Ellen is the older sister to John Travolta. She first make appearances as Gloria back on GH in the mid-90s. Most recently, she returned to the Quartermaine mansion to meet up with daughter, Lois (Rena Sofer) and granddaughter Brook Lynn for Thanksgiving in Port Charles in 2023.  Michael Fairman TV interviewed Rena Sofer and Amanda Setton late last year where they shared what it had been liking working with Ellen, who remains very close to Sofer in real-life.

Amanda shared: “We fell in love immediately. What’s crazy is my maternal grandmother was Grandma Gloria. I had her till I was 30 and we were so close. She was really like a second mom to me. So, when I got this script and I’m reading “Grandma Gloria”, it was so bizarre. And then in meeting Ellen, she looks like my grandma – same haircut, same high cheekbones. It really did feel like I had a few days with my grandma. It was very, very special for me. Ellen is sweet, prepared, professional, talented and funny to boot. So, it was one of the best weeks I’ve had at work. I hope she comes back. My fingers are crossed.”

Now, we can’t imagine Brook Lynn and Chase’s wedding day to be smooth sailing, in fact, expect just the opposite, but could it be Grandma Gloria who is ultimately the hero or the calming voice of reason for any pre-wedding jitters? Stay tuned.

So, glad to know that Ellen Travolta will be back for Brook Lynn and Chase’s big day? Comment below.

Kristian Alfonso Returns to Days of our Lives for Tribute to The Late Bill Hayes

After a few weeks of Days of our Lives fans being upset that Kristian Alfonso (Hope Williams) was not on the first list of initial returns for Doug Williams’ funeral and episodes honoring his portrayer, the late Bill Hayes, comes word that the popular star is back and taping scenes.

Kristian reported to work on the Peacock streaming soap opera on Monday, April 22nd. She shared how important it is for her to be back for this particular return to the show that made her a household name.

“My return is very bittersweet,” Alfonso told TV Insider,  “because it is the end of an era with Bill gone. So to return to Days is very sad. I am appreciative that they came to me to include me in their series of shows honoring Doug and I’m very happy to see everyone, but I’m entering the studio with a heavy heart.”

Photo: JPI

It was back in 1983 that Kristian first debuted as Doug’s daughter, and now 41 years later looking back at it, and her time with Bill Hayes is very emotional for her.

“I remember my first scenes with him/ He was very loving, very welcoming. That he was very talented and an incredible actor and an icon, that all goes without saying, but my personal relationship and my working relationship with Bill, it was home,” expressed Alfonso. “Doing the scenes with Bill, I felt like I was with my dad because there was so much warmth and reality.”

Photo: JPI

Alfonso did express some deep regret, in that she had wanted to work with Bill Hayes during her last appearance on the soap back in 2023, but according to the iconic actress, there was something in the works but it never materialized.  “I’m sad that I did not get the opportunity to do the storyline that Ron (Carlivati, head writer) had planned/ It was great; we returned to Salem to reunite with our families and I would have had father/daughter scenes with Billy. What Ron had written was beautiful and emotional and it was a fantastic story. I was 100 percent for it and the fans would have loved it.”

As for if Bo (Peter Reckell) and Hope will be back on-screen together anytime soon, Kristian would only say, “What I will say is don’t give up hope.” Doug’s passing and memorial episodes will stream later this year come late November into December.

So, are you happy to learn that Kristian Alfonso is back taping episodes surrounding Doug’s memorial episodes? Comment below.
