The ever changing drama behind the scenes at Days of our Lives has taken another turn and now there are cast cut casualities!  Soap Opera Digest is reporting this afternoon that Sarah Brown (Madison), Matt Ashford (Jack), Patrick Muldoon (Austin) and Christie Clark (Carrie) will all be exiting the Salem canvas soon, and that an insider reveals there will be more cast cuts in the near future!

The series which is trying to save itself from low ratings already announced last week that they have fired head writers, Marlene McPherson and Darrell Ray Thomas for Gary Tomlin, Christopher Whitesell and Lorraine Broderick.

i love carrie wish she saw staying

Hark! Is that the sound of the death knell, baying out on the morn?

I fear that Lorraine Broderick is being brought in as the closer, here. And with the breaking news about Matt Lauer’s contract… Well… We’d all better start preparing…

Poor Matt Ashford that guy has been fired and hired from DOOL so many times he should write a book on “Why Do They Treat Me So Badly.” Ken Corday has it in for that guy way back when I watched DOOL this guy was getting beat up and the sad thing is he is a good actor.

i agree thanks for saying what we are all thinking .

Other than Matt Ashford, I’m thrilled! Days has way too much dead weight and needs to trim its sails. Can Jack take Abigail with him too, please?

Lol, I agree with you, take Abby with him

Sarah Brown just can’t get a break… she’s so talented and get’s brought in for a story and then sidelined or such. Carrie and Austin seemed to be short lived and I wonder if they had known that. Jack leaving just as he and Jennifer are supposedly getting back together must mean Jennifer is doomed to go. DOOL just can’t stay on one track very long and it’s sad for all. I hope they all find other projects!

Sarah is the bests, she is a very talented actress.

I hope that general hospital picks her up again so she can join her crazy family, anthony and johnny. On dool they didnt show her as a crazy female like when she played carly, but most of all claudia.Hopefully we hear she will be on contract soon, shes a good actress and is free again to come back to port charles.

SERIOUSLY???????

How many times are they going to write off Matt Ashford’s Jack????? Abandoning his family yet again!?!?! COME ON DAYS!!!!

And Austin and Carrie? AGAIN, as soon as Aurie start to pick up steam together, they’re gone!?!?

SO, beyond disappointed with this move. You had a cast cut not one year ago, and brought back these favourites. And now just like that you cut them???

I’m sorry for Sarah Brown, too, but her character just never took off. I wanted to like her, and I wanted to root for her, but she was so boring and useless.

What about Gabi? Rafe? Roman? Daniel? Even Abigail? Talk about useless! And yet Jack, Austin and Carrie are given the pink slip. Not cool DAYS! I love you DOOL, but what a foolish, foolish move.

Couldn’t agree more with you that Gabi, Rafe, Roman, and Daniel are useless. Abigail is annoying as well. So what are your thoughts about Daniel and Jennifer again (possibly) and is Kayla and Abe going to get together?

Hmmm…… I kind of like the idea of Abe and Kayla. Of course Kayla and Patch/Lexie and Abe are the supercouples, but Lexie is gone forever and Steve just isn’t returning anytime soon. This pairing will give us a chance to see these legacy characters in ways we never have before (not to mention needed airtime) so I’m open to the idea. Do they have chemistry? Will they work well together? That remains to be seen, but I’m all for giving them a shot and testing those waters.

As for Daniel and Jennifer, I’ll be completely honest – I was not liking them in the beginning, but I actually ended up thinking they were really cute together. When Jack came back, I felt like Jennifer just wasn’t connecting with him the same way they had in the past. So shock of all shocks (for me!), I was rooting for Jen and Daniel there, even though my head knew Jack and Jen belonged together. Then when they fell apart, I was for J&J all over again, even with the little airtime they had. Now with Jack gone again (whaaa!!) I’m just sad they never gave J&J a real chance, and am kind of bitter that they’ll give one again to Dannifer (go figure!). Frankly however, I’ll take Dannifer over Daniel and my favourite character, Nicole. Talk about an AWFUL and CONTRIVED pairing! To save my Nicole, I’ll take Jenn and Dan again I suppose.

What do you think?

I would take Jennifer and Daniel any day. Wow they are great together. Nicole sucks! Give Daniel and Jennifer a chance they were so good together. They were so fun to watch. Nicole deserves EJ!!

Not Matthew Ashford already! Too unstable at Days.

Looks like a bit of a war to me. MarDar come in and clean up SLs that Higley (and that means Tomlin and Whitsell) created, and now TomWhit come back and undo what they’ve done. Getting rid of Matt? Really? Again? For the millionth time? Either news of Missy’s departure will follow shortly, or they’re putting her back with Dannifer, which was a creation of the previous hacks. Sarah was brought in by MarDar, now TomWhit say see ya. Carrie and Austin? Nevermind to you. Nope, expect to see more of the younger cast — again — because Tomlin made it very clear that he isn’t interested in having too many people over 40. Please. Circling the drain we are. Just cancel it already and put us out of our misery!

GREAT NEWS for GH. Bring Sarah back to GH as Johnny’s mother. Together they can go after Sonny and Anthony. Sarah on GH again would be a dream come true.

agree, she was soo good as both carly and claudia, and i think her returning to GH would be awesome, hope this really happens.

I think that will be a horable thing to do…..I can see Austin & carrie maybe….but, Madison…..when she is just getting started…..NOT a good move if you ask me…too many cuts will result in no moe wanting to watch the show…..for your getting rid of the good ones….

I couldn’t agree more !! When if ever does Brady get a break, Madison is the best thing that could have happened to him and for Days !! NOT A SMART MOVE TO GET RID OF MADISON JAMES

I do agree with you.Madison is the best.I say keep her.

omg !!!! hmmm how will they go? Serial killer? i was getting used to the lineup and likeing it, poor Matt Ashford he was barely given a S/L 🙁

I would like to see Rafe, Ian, Jeenifer, Abby and Gaby exit. I love the pairing of Brady and Nicole and EJ and Sami. Lucas needs to go back to Hong kong and marry Autumn. Since Renee Jones is leaving, I wonder will Abe be on canvas? I also see Joe Mascolo taking his retirement.

This is the worst thing can happen to days. First they bring them back and now they are getting rid of them. What a waste. Why do I keep watching this show when they keep taking people I love to watch each days away. I been watching this soap since 1980….

I guess NBC can’t afford to pay the actors after signing Matt Loser for $100 Million.

Who the HELL deserves $100 million? Makes me sick.

No One DESERVES $100 million!! NO ONE!

Unfortunatley sports figures make more then that.It is disgusting.

This is some pity, down luck for DOOL. Just as they rebooted the show 7 months ago, returning some legendary actors/characters, this is what happens? Already? Just as Carrie was going to spice things up with Rafe, Jack got his wife back after that whole mess he was in, and Austin’s stalker. I wonder who’s next down the list? And for Sarah Brown’s Madison leaving the canvas, I really sensed a new power couple with Brady. DOOL really needed that. Well fans, as the saying goes, “And so are the day’s of our lives,” behind the set of DOOL. smh

I for one will not watch anymore I like madison, Jack, Austin, and Carri Ive watched since I was in grade school with my mother and still have some old episodes on VHS tapes. what they need to do is change the episodes with John, Hope and Stephano I hated it way back when and I still hate it Bo and Hope are a couple and always should be just like Jack and Jennifer, John and Marlena

I won’t miss any of them, but I’m not a long time DOOL fan. I’m sure many who are may be upset.

It makes me sad, especially for Austin and Carrie. But if that’s what needed to save Days from cancellation, then so be it.

Days of Our Lives is in serious danger of cancellation for 2013. So anything that can be done to save the show should be welcomed, even if it means losing some of the favs.

Poor Sarah Brown–crapped on by Brad Bell and now Ken Corday. Her story flatlined as soon as we found out she was married to Duke Lavery.

And Lord God–Matt Ashford is one of the best things to ever happen to the show and he is consistently treated like dirt. In the process, DOOL’s last real supercouple, Jack and Jennifer, get destroyed. Rolling my eyes. Fire the kiddie brigade or something…keep Matt around!

I agree Tom. Matt Ashford was an asset. They need to get rid of John/Marlena, EJ/Sami and all the other billcrap. J and J made the show

I AGREE SAMI NEEDS TO GO LIKE AUSTIN PECK ONCE SAID YOU
CANNOT CENTER THE SHOW AROUND ONE CHARACTER ITS SAMI,
SAMI, SAMI, ALL THE TIME ENOUGH ALLISON SWEENY SHE HAS A REALITY SHOW ON TV GUIDE CH AND THE BIGGEST LOSER ON NBC

LOOKS LIKE DAYS IS GOING TO BE THE LOSER ONCE AGAIN

AND I AGREE ENOUGH OF MARLENA AND WILL STORYLINE BORING
I JUST ROLL MY EYES AND SWITCH THE CHANNEL

Bad enough all the “familiar ” places are gone in exchange for ridiculous Horton Square and the Brady Pub…..the backdrop for ALL scenes. Now they choose to cut familiar faces too. STRONG DISLIKE to many of the recent decisions and changes made.

Jack is nothing but a clown and a jerk & I won’t miss him a bit. Madison turned me off with all the lying she did to Brady, right up to not mentioning she had a husband when Brady proposed. And frankly, they never seemed to talk or have any kind of relationship together except in bed. I like Austin & Carrie and will miss them.
I hope that they won’t write out John & Marlena again. Or Lucas, Brady, Bo, Hope or any of the DiMeras.

i agree love the dimeras, joe mascolo rocks days and has for yrs, love bo and hope will not miss jack but hate he is losing his job and madison was boring to begin with, did however like austin and carrie being back in salem

but think marlena and will storyline is getting old let him come out to all of salen
and move on with another stroyline

This sucks! Ken Corday doesn’t care about the fans! I don’t even think he cares about the actors. I no longer have faith in aything he says!

Well bring Matt and Sarah back to GH! And I’ve always thought Christie would make a great recast of Sarah Webber.

I don’t know who you are but I have the same first name and last initial – and just the other day I too was thinking that Christie could actually look like Elizabeth’s sister, Sarah. Weird.

I can’t believe Matt Ashford is getting written off AGAIN!

Kill of Jennifer and keep Jack.

What are they thinking?

There not thinking at all, thats the problem ,jacks out the door, madison gone and lexi, sad,but she will be gone to .I havent been watching days for very long but those 3 characters I liked most of all,I think days is making a big mistake .

I agree.

I hate it !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I sick and tired of you guys shitting on Matt Ashford what is the reason now ? I feel sorry for Missy Reeves always same damn story lines.

I cant believe this! I knew it. Bringing back Gary Tomlin and CHris Whitesell who destroyed DAYS in the first place is the biggest mistake that Ken Corday could do. I love MAtt Ashford, Christie Clarke and Patrick Muldoon. I have decided to NEVER watch DAYS again despite the fact that my fave couple EJAMI may get a reunion. So we get a Jenn/Daniel reunion is that it. Is this how Ken Corday is going to treat the long time fans of DAYS? Then Im not going to watch. Gary Tomlin has decided to control the writing and the behind the scenes action as well. Why not get rid of Galen Gering who with all due respect CANT act. His pairing with Alison Sweeney is what Gary Tomlin wanted. Ken Corday and Co should take some pointers from Frank Valentini and Ron Carlivati who actually care about what the GH fans want. So long DAYS.

omg, hope GH can get sarah brown to come back, thats where she belongs anyway, she’s to good for dool.

Sarah Brown must keep getting written off for a reason. She’s been cast on how many soaps in the last few years? I hope they never bring her back to GH.

I hope they bring Sarah Brown back as coo coo claudia.she was good ,she played carly for a very long time ,shes a good actress I think dool got rid of her is because they are cleaning house, their loss general hospitals gain(I Hope).

Maybe they’ll bring in some of the cast and writers from AMC! That might be just what the show needs!

This is a crying shame. I have finally gotten a hold on Salem life after losing OLTL and ATWT and AMC. Now this? This constant and abrupt shifting does a fan no favors. I hate to think it… is daytime drama really dying? Those trusted for its care seem unable to do the job.

Carrie can’t leave I love her and I love Madison.
I wish they would stay. Now Brady won’t have anybody 🙁

I can’t believe this! I was always wondering if Jack and Austin should leave, and they should. But Cafe must exist! And so must Bradison!

I’ve been a fan through thick & thin but I’m about done. It’s not even fun anymore because we can’t even get attached anymore. I’m losing faith in Days!

I am a HUGE life long Days fan. To a certain extent, I love- or have loved- all of the above performers at one time or another. Sarah Brown was great/legendary on GH. Ashford was fantastic, once upon a time, as part of the Jack/Jen super couple. Many, many, many years ago Muldoon was a HOT Austin. However, with the exception of Christie Clark, NONE of the above actors have been effective in their roles or story lines.
Sarah Brown was indeed legendary as the original Carly on GH. Although she did a serviceable job on Days, her character was unlikeable, unbelievable, and uninteresting. She has absolutely no chemistry with Brady Black. Then, when the writers made the characteristically formidable Brown portray a weak and subservient version of Madison, they ultimately destroyed anything interesting about her character.
Once upon a time, Ashford was wonderful as Jack. He and Melissa Reeves had terrific, fun chemistry, and they had lots of offbeat, endearing story lines. Unfortunately, Ashford has just not been an interesting screen presence in a very long time. He “pushes” for emotion and does not come across as believable in any of his emotional scenes with Reeves. On one hand, its great to see a once beloved character back on the canvas. On the other hand, it has been painfully obvious that whatever “worked” between Ashford and Reeves so many years ago, is no longer registering on screen. Each time Ashford returns the writers try to recapture his former glory, and each time both the writing and the actor fail in the attempt.
When Muldoon originated the role of Austin Reed, he had movie star looks and appeal. When the actor left Days it would have been a forgone conclusion to assume that he would have moved on to prime time or big screen glory. Sadly, this did not happen. I was surprised to hear that Muldoon was returning to Days, and originally I looked forward to watching his scenes. Ironically, he seems to be a better, stronger actor than his previous jaunt in Salem. However, his storyline and even his work comes across as flat, and well…dull. I’m not sure if its simply because he no longer physically resembles the “hot boxer” that he originated when he created the role, or if it’s just that the writing is dull and repetitive.
The only “firing” that I strongly disagree with is that of Christie Clark. This is the second time that they have brought her back on canvas, only to misuse her talents. Clark is a strong actress, and still beautiful after all these years. Her character has connections to many characters in Salem beyond Austin. They are making a HUGE mistake in letting her go.
I do not agree that the above “firings” are reflective of the current soap climate. I don’t believe that NBC is looking to replace Days. I think that firing actors, or writers, because the show is not moving in a strong direction is a smart, proactive decision.
For many months I thought that Days had improved its story lines. I LOVED the Will Horton coming out story, and the return of my all time fave- Deidre Hall. However, in the past few weeks I noticed that the Will/coming out story line has become repetitive and anti-climactic. Massey and Hall have been superb in their scenes. However, after SO MANY months of angst, it seemed silly that Will would finally admit to Marlena that he is gay, in such a tepid, quiet manner. Also- since I’m gay, I had a strong emotional investment in the Will storyline. However, I’ve begun to wonder if the straight audience can relate to, let alone be entertained, by the Will/gay angst story. The novelty of the storyline was initially compelling. The raw kiss between Will and his pool ‘buddy’ was shocking for daytime. I thought- wow- they are really going to push the envelope here, and create some interesting dynamics. However, just as quickly, it seems that the writers got scared and backed away from telling this story in an authentic, meaningful manner.
I’m looking forward to the new writers, and the upcoming story lines- as long as they keep Marlena/Deidre Hall on the canvas!

I agree with many of your points. Besides what you said about Madison, it also doesn’t help that the decision that she makes only lasts for a week or two before she goes in the other direction. Poor writing for a great actress.

I slightly disagree about the Will story. I think it has been a well told story for the most part, and I think the audience can and does enjoy it if multiple message board are any indication. If anything, it seems to be one of the few stories the audience truly enjoys right now. That being said, there has been a recent story ‘hiccup’ in that after so many months of angst – Will just sort of calmly comes out. Being that the story is only on once or twice a week, perhaps they were just trying to speed it along, but after so painstakingly leading up to the moment, it feels like we skipped a few pieces.

I think the overall problem though is that the most of the stories on Days have no ‘build’ to them. Once upon a time, stories would have beats that moved slowly – you could stay in one beat for months, so that the characters would settle in, the new status quo would be established, characters would react to it and adjust – and then the next beat would come along and because it had been built and settled in, you could appreciate the change and realize the importance of each beat in the story. But lately the beats on Days are just flying by. Example – Abigail falls for Austin, let’s Austin think they slept together, then Carrie finds out, then Abigail turns the screws, then Abigail admits the truth – all the while Carrie is getting closer to and then pulling away from and then getting closer to and pulling away from Rafe. This kind of story would have played out over months, maybe even a couple of years once – now, it was what, six or eight weeks? There was no time between changes and evolutions in the story to actually adjust to any new status quo because it was changing the following week. You can’t invest in a story that passes by you like a speeding car, and the only reason you feel anything is squarely on the acting of the people involved – and they can’t do all the heavy lifting all the time, especially when they are having to sell the audience on an emotion one week, that turns the opposite the next week, and back again the week after. And ALL Days stories are pretty much like this – change, change, change again – and a month has passed. Stories need to breath to mean something, to have impact, to draw audiences in and actually capture their imagination. Days is moving way to fast these days to breathe at all.

the only storyline i enjoy on there is the Will story. it’s the main reason i started watching this show again & it started strong & then when they rebooted the show it kinda got pushed to the backburner but pulled out once in awhile. then Will had the hot kiss & then weeks with nothing going on really. he finally came out to Marlena & then Sonny & then Gabi this week but the way they talk they’re not gonna focus on him & any pairing but EJ working with him & showing him the business side of things & since this is the most talked about story on message boards & such you’d think they’d concentrate more on this story than any of the others especially when everybody complains about seeing the same story for the 10th time.

I think it is an absolute joke that they have cut Matthew Ashford. Seriously they have low ratings because they have created stupid storylines for so long. They started going downhill when they originally fired Matt and other great actors. Keep Matthew Ashford and the ratings wil improve. Get rid of the stupid EJ/sami characters. I am now officially done watching DAYS! I only came back to watch Matt and Missy. Honestly Days has become a joke and hopefully they will eventually have such low ratings that the show is cancelled.

Wow! What a creative recipe for killing a show. Really?!? Haven’t TPTB learned anything from all the shows we’ve lost over the past 10-15 years? Building up the returns like DAYS did, only to shuffle them back out the door so soon shows me poor planning. DAYS is very heavy with a talented cast, but this is sad news. I wish them well.

this is a nightmare for us fans. firing christie clark patrick maldoon i am very upset and crying. a big mistake that days of our lives will regret for the rest of there lives. poor matthew ashford fired again how ridicoulous/ matt if i were you never come back to days of our lives. what a stab in the back. lisa rinna will be fired soon. i love lisa but no storyline for her. get rid of stefano for good. sick and tired of the stupid princess gina storyline. keep brady lucas sami nicole hope bo kate and roman. i have a bad feeling days will be cancelled in 2013. no one is watching because same recycled storylines.

Agreed! I hope Matt and the rest NEVER come back because I guarantee you Gary and Chris will not LAST.

I started watching Days again last fall when I learned Deidre, Drake, Matt, Patrick, and Christie were coming back. Excited that they were rebuilding the core families, but then they started this Carrie/Rafe pairing, which was so uncharacteristic that I began fast-forwarding through Carrie scenes unless they involved Marlena and John. I even began to cheer for Madison and Brady, they could have gone so many directions with her secret, but her being secretly married to Ian….Pul ease! Hopefully the writers can be creative enough to keep John and Marlena together and still have exciting stories for them so they don’t disappear as well. If Deidre and Drake go again, so do I.

I agree with Stephanie above. Madison being married to this Ian…why was he brought into it in the first plae? But why does Madison have to leave now when Ian will give a divorce to her and she will be with Brady (spoilers)? The recycled storylines with boring Gina/Pawn and EJami will be what causes the drop of ratings, not these people! Their attempt to make more money and get more viewers backfired.

Lexie is already leaving, and when everything comes out about EJ, Abe will be mayor. I honestly think the old timers should go, as well as Gabi. Gabi has recycled material with this obsession to split Chelanie up, we have seen that with Caustin and Sami. Doug and Julie are not shown much, Bope and John are SO boring, Roman serves no purpose…If DOOL wants viewers, show Maggie and Victor more often and kill off Ian! Here is what I would have happen:

Stefano kills Ian for sleeping with Kate. Kate wants to go to marriage counseling. Will and Sonny hookup, Lumi happens, Nathan comes back and steals Melanie from Chad, Chabigail reunites. Maggie finds out Victor’s secret, but forgives him, EJole get back together and raise their baby. Gabi leaves Salem, Carrie divorces Austin and marries Rafe, Bradison get married, John leaves town, Stefano goes to jail, EJ loses the election and is heavily fined for his crimes. Austin moves back to Switzerland and Jack moves somewhere like Portland or something to write a magazine of newspaper. I think MA has been treated badly by writers, but Jack really serves no purpose and should leave. Austin is unlikeable and Carrie and Rafe belong together anyway.

This is the worst news EVER. getting rid of Matt Ashford REALLY? Why not get rid of Galen Gering who with all due respect CANT act at all. Oops I forgot Gary Tomlin is back on board to control not only the writing but also the behind the scenes action. Why not get rid of Melanie and Chad and those who serve no purpose to the show. Matt, Christie and Patrick are vets of the show and get treated this way. First and foremost I watch movies and Im a movie fan but I really had hope for DAYS that they may be the only soap left on air. I laughed at myself because DAYS will not last till the end of the year. It has become unwatchable and it has been totally destroyed by Ken Corday who promised to keep the legacy of his parents alive.
EJAMI has never been given a chance and EJOLE just bore me to tears.
Jenn/Daniel pairing will now be in the works and I cant bear to watch it anymore. This is not the way to treat anyone and Ken Corday and Co need to take pointers from Frank Valentini and Ron Carlivati who really know what their fans want. This could be a blessing for Sarah Brown who deserves better than DAYS.
Ken Corday needs to take a long look at himself in the mirror and decide what he wants because NO ONE but him took DAYS into the ground!

EJole is the best EJami sucks

Then please explain the ratings? EJOLE are so boring that I actually watched the paint dry in the house and that was more entertaining

EJ raped Sami, and was also responsible for the imposter Rafe raping her. How is that romance? EJ and Nicole are in love and care about each other. Yes he cheated on her, but it is not as bad as raping someone.

Sami consented to the sex and I recall that EJ called “Samantha” while he made love to Nicole in an elevator. You can only bring up the rape because thats all youve got. All the time EJ was with Nicole he still loved Sami and the dreams he had about her proved it. EJ would have dumped Nicole like a hot potato had she given him the time of day or even told him that she was pregnany with Sydney.

EJ fell in love with Sami, yes. But he still raped her. Even if you don’t consider that rape, he was still responsible for the imposter Rafe raping her last spring. EJolebis true love.

EJ may have done that to Sami but she put a bulletn in his head and she consented to the sex so that doesnt make it a rape. That happened years ago and thats the only thing that non-EJAMI fans can think of. Nicole took his daughter away from another women and is psychotic. EJAMI true love.
Each to their own I guess- I respect all fan bases.

You just pointed out the reason why EJami should not be together. She shot him, in the head, when he was drunk and passed out! Nicole has changed, and EJ is trying to in order to please her. I think what Nicole, Sami and EJ have done is terrible, but even Ali Sweeney said that she works best with BD, and EJami cannot work! As a former fan of EJami I can respect your ship, but I juat believe that a romance where rape occured is nasty and unrealistic.

No! Not Matt Ashford again! His Jack is my favorite soap character of all time. Why can’t they keep him and give him some air time?

gh can always bring matt ashford back as tom hardy, son of audry hardy……………

Jack Carrie Madison Austin goodby and good luck,
I hope Abbie gos too along with Jenn and Rafe and Billie

and EJ and Stefano can go and stay gone, this show needs to get back to
The Horton Family and yes Lucas is a Horton and keep it that way. 🙂

I have thought for several weeks that “Days” has too many characters on the canvas. When Billie and Lucus came back, it seemed to make it feel even more crowded. I am sorry to see Madison/Sarah Brown leave because she is a powerhouse actress. I have hated the writers have made her such a coward every time she is around Ian. If Ken Corday is reading, here are a few suggestions: 1) Bring back Chloe and Cary 2) Show more scenes with Maggie and Victor. They have more chemistry than any of the young couples. 3) Put Jennifer and Daniel back together and stop dressing Melissa Reeves like an 80-year-old woman. 4) Bring back the Eric Brady character for Nicole 5) Stop with the old stoylines (i.e. Princess Gina) 6) Make Hope a more glamorous character. You have one of the most beautiful woman on daytime, so make her the older face of Kate’s cosmetic company (i.e. Ellen DeGeneras and Diane Keaton). 7) Cut the cast by eliminating characters that have overstayed their welcome (Abe, Roman). 8) Age the character of Sierra 9) Bring back Kirsten Storms as Belle and Brandon Beemer as Shawn 10) If Billie is going to stay, bring back Chelsea.

Number one suggestion should have read “Chloe and Carly.”

OH MY! Not sad at Mads leaving. Surprised Christie and Patrick are gone since they just came on and seemed set to stay awhile. Sad to see them go. Matt too as I like Jack. So is Jen leaving too? Guess Carrie and Austin will return to Switzerland. I think there are others who could go and leave some of these.

I tired of this back and forth. People come on, then Days gets a new writer or whatever and direction is changed. Give us good story!

patrick muldoon can’t act period. Austin peck by far was the better austin. Bringing Pat back was a huge mistake. He is to old for the role. That was the writing team first mistake the second was the Abby sl. I love caustin and so wish they keep Christie and bring back Austin peck. The writing of Jack was all over the place. Yes fire the writers but why do the actors have to suffer its not their fault that the writing sucks. Keep the actors change their sl days u are loosing fan. You would give fans if u keep actors. I can undestand PM getting the booth but Christie. Rafe and Carrie make a cute couple. She is needed on the show. This is heart breaking because Carrie and austin (peck) were the only reason I have ever watch. Sorry Greg meng Christie Carrie is not the problem it was patrick and his version of austin reed. Why should she loose her job just because patrick had to go.

Cutting Sarah Brown is the biggest mistake! She is one of the energetic interesting characters on the show! No offense but their are a few characters that i fast forward through. So if you have to make budget cuts Sarah is not the way to go!!

I do agree with you.She actually makes the show as far as I am concerned. What can days be thinking?Do they have there heads so far up there rearends they aren’t thinking straight?II wll miss Sarah and I am not all to happy about them letting her go.I did look forward to watching her perform,Sorry Sarah that this had to happen to you,you deserve better.

I agree let go of Justin and Adriane already, Kayla too they are all dead weight ! Madison and Brady have CHEMISTRY

I did figure that something had to be up when they weren’t giving Sarah much of a story plot. This whole thing just sucks.I want Madison and Brady together..

well now GH can bring Matthew Ashford back ! He’d fit in even better now that he’s GH & OLTL alumni. He was Drew Ralston on OLTL 1982 – 1983, Tom Hardy on GH 1995 -1997, and then again on OLTL as serial killer Dr. Stephen Haver from 2003 – 2004.

And boy, he and Kristina Wagner had some hot scenes together when Tom Hardy was dating Felicia!

Ms. Brown could come back again as a 3rd character – but let’s not make her a mob related character this time! ha!

I have been a Days fan forever and Christie Clark has always been my favorite actress on Days. She has been especially good in her role recently; It seems such a mistake to let her go. Please bring her back soon and often.

So stupid to get rid of Carrie, Madison, Jack and Austin! Carrie has always been one of my favorite characters ever too! Madison has so much potential! She and Brady are hot together, and she has great chemistry with Sami and Kate too. It was stupid to bring Ian on for her, that is a bust.

Carrie and Austin shouldn’t be let go. If the actor of Austin is the issue then bring back Austin Peck as Austin.

Poor Jack and Jennifer, Jack always gets fired by idiots that don’t seem to know how to write for them. Seems the new set of writers aren’t interested in figuring out how to write for these interesting characters.

Yet bores like Gabi, Chad, Melanie and Ian are still on????

Matthew Ashford and Melissa Reeves Talk Return to DAYS for Doug’s Funeral, Susan Seaforth Hayes, and Their Enduring Friendship

Last week, Days of our Lives celebrated the taping of their 15,000th episode which is tentatively scheduled to air on December 3rd. The story will feature emotional and heart-tugging scenes of Doug Williams funeral and honor his portrayer, the beloved Bill Hayes, who passed away on January 12th at the age of 98.

While the actors, producers, and crew took a lunch time break to pose for some pictures and speak with the press, they knew they would have to get back to taping the funeral, which was going to make it a tough day, but also cathartic for all who loved Bill Hayes.

Several returns have thus far been announced including; Melissa Reeves reprising her signature role of Jennifer Horton (a part she first played in 1985), and Matthew Ashford as Jack Deveraux. Reeves had last appeared on the show back in 2021, and she was replaced by Emmy-winner Cady McClain in her absence when Jennifer was in storylines. In real-life, Melissa had moved full-time to Tennessee along with her husband, Scott Reeves (ex-DAYS, GH, Y&R). Now, and as previously reported, Reeves will first appear back on DAYS for the Thanksgiving episodes with the Hortons.

Michael Fairman TV caught up with Matt and Melissa during the 15,000th episode celebration to get their take on: being back for these special episodes, how it has been working with and watching Susan Seaforth Hayes portray Julie’s grief over losing Doug, and how they have supported each other through the years. Check out what they shared below.

Melissa, you are back on the set of Days of our Lives for this very emotional and special moment in the series history. How does it feel?

MELISSA: Oh, my goodness. I am honored. I wouldn’t want to be anywhere else but to be here for Bill. He was like my real-life dance partner. He taught me how to ballroom dance. And to be here for Susan, of course, who’s just been our sweet hero this whole week. We’re just following her lead. She’s just been this incredibly strong example for us in the midst of this trial and season of her life. She is like just lifting us all up with her. It’s been incredible.

I was at Bill Hayes memorial service which was truly incredible and I know at the time you were in Tennessee. It was moving and celebratory of his life, all at the same time.

MELISSA: That’s all I have heard. I have to watch it on You Tube. They said it was just a real celebration of his life and I love that.

This must be difficult for Susan Seaforth Hayes depicting the death of Doug, when she is still grieving the loss of her beloved husband. (Susan pictured above with the returning Stephen Schnetzer who plays her on-screen brother, Steve Olson).

MELISSA: I’m sure Susan has those moments at home by herself, but she’s so good at being a leader and leading all of us. We’re following her, you know, and she’s like, “This is how I want to feel today.” And we’re just going along with her, you know? It’s so sweet.

How is it to see Matt Ashford again live and in-person?

MELISSA: You know, Matt and I can go years without talking, or seeing each other, and then the minute we see each other we’re chatting away.

MATT: Melissa was out on set doing a scene yesterday on the phone talking to a stage manager; as she was telling some really tough news on the phone. I’m like crying in the background, literally, I’m off-stage crying.

MELISSA: And then we get like back into normal life, and we’re like, okay, “What’s happening? What’s happening with this … or what’s happening with that?”

I had read, Melissa, that you were in touch with Matt about if there night be a possibility for you to reprise your role as Jennifer for these special episodes?

MELISSA: Yes. Well, Matt was like, “Hey! Would you want to come back? “And I was like, “Matt, you know, I would always come back. ”

MATT:  Every time I come here to Days of our Lives, they ask, “Where’s Missy? How’s Missy?” Everybody backstage says, “I miss her.” All of the crew is asking about her and saying, “It would be nice to see Missy. Nothing wrong with you Matt, but …”  They said, “Where is she?” I said, “She wants to come!”

Photo: JPI

There are some beautiful photos of Missy and Bill and Susan thorough the years that I found. It just reminded me of just the deep and entrenched history we all have had with the show, personally and professionally.

MATT: Missy is roughly the age where Francis Reid (ex-Alice Horton) was when she started the show, which is just crazy.

Photo: JPI

I’ve always said Missy was going to be the next generation Alice. Do you feel that Jennifer is the heir apparent matriarch of the Horton family?

MELISSA: Yes. I mean, this has been greatest blessing of my life, and that would be great. I told Ken Corday (executive producer, Days of our Lives) when I was 17 that this show would be my life. Ken always told me, “This is your home,” and I’ve always felt like that.

How have gotten through the scenes watching Susan Seaforth Hayes as Julie go through the loss of Doug?

MATT: Susan is bringing her best performance life for her and Bill. I mean, she’s a showbiz baby. She always has been one hundred percent, and she’s doing it for him, and this is who they’ve always been. So, you’re seeing this amazing performance colored by her life. She has her private life as Susan, but she has enough plugged into Julie that she’s done amazing work. The director, producers and writers are giving her room to live in these moments and it’s quite wonderful.

Have you already broken down in tears during the taping?

MELISSA: Yesterday, but today’s taping of the actual funeral I think they want us to try and be just more celebratory.

MATT: I mean, it is a beautiful long life for Bill Hayes and his character of Doug Williams, and so it will be about that. Then, you get a bunch of us together in the church pews, and there’s going to be hijinks.

MELISSA: We all have been through the waves of grief. You have that awful cry and then all of a sudden you feel okay.  There are those family situations we are portraying where you’re like, “What do we do? What do we do now? You know, no one knows what to do. But, it’s so sweet. I’m looking forward to seeing how the scenes all turn out.

So, are you glad that Matt and Melissa are back for the 15K episode and Doug’s funeral? From what we can tell, it’s going to be quite an emotional journey for Days of our Lives fans, and especially the performance of Susan Seaforth Hayes,

Ron Carlivati Talks on Decision to Make Days of our Lives 15000th Episode About Doug’s Funeral, and Previews Chances for WGA Award

This week, Days of our Lives celebrated the taping of their 15,000th episode. In of it itself, that is an incredible accomplishment for the long-running soap opera currently streaming on Peacock.

However, this on set gathering was a bit different. Though the show is celebrating their achievement, they are also in the middle of taping scenes surrounding the death and the funeral of Doug Williams, played by the late Bill Hayes, who passed away on January 12th of this year at the age of 98.

As previously revealed many longtime favorites are back to honor Bill and the character of Doug including: Gloria Loring (Liz), Melissa Reeves (Jennifer), Matthew Ashford (Jack), Maree Cheatham (Marie), Victoria Konefal (Ciara) and Stephen Schnetzer (Steve) to name but a few.

Michael Fairman TV was in attendance and spoke with Days of our Lives head writer, Ron Carlivati to gain some insight into how the 15,000 episode was crafted and the decision to honor the character of Doug Williams and Bill Hayes as its epicenter. In addition, Ron weighed-in on this Sunday’s April 14th WGA (Writers Guild of America) Awards, where he and his writing team are facing off with General Hospital for the daytime drama prize. Here’s what Ron shared below.

Was this your idea to make the 15,000th episode centered around Doug’s funeral and passing?

RON: It was. When you’re looking at it, and laying out the calendar for the whole year and you see 15,000 is coming up, we’re like, “What are we going to do?” And then, we got the news that Bill had passed away and something kind of clicked. I was like, “We should honor Doug on that show.” So then, we started to kind of build around that … when does he pass away? How does he pass away? Who could come back? You know, it’s a lot.  I’m very pleased with the returns that we got as there’s so much that you could do. We wanted everybody we could get. So, we put together a wish list and Janet Drucker (co-executive producer, Days of our Lives) made it happen.

Photo: JPI

You have Melissa Reeves back as Jennifer, when the role was last played by Cady McClain. What has it meant to have Missy back for these shows?

RON: It was so nice to see Missy Reeves. I think Cady has done such a good job, but on the 15,000th episode to see Missy as Jennifer, it’s a big deal. So having her was great, and overall, the milestone was a big undertaking, because you want to live up to it. You want the 15,000th episode to be good. Now, it has a lot of real emotion that you’re playing. because for the cast and the crew they’re honoring Bill Hayes just as much as we’re honoring Doug Williams.

Photo: JPI

Was it hard for you and the team to write this episode?

RON: Yes. I’ll tell you why it was hard to write.  When I wrote, for example, Asa’s (Phillip Carey) death on One Life to Live or Victor’s (John Aniston) on DAYS, Asa is a different type of character. Like, you could have characters going, “Oh! I’m glad he is dead.” You could have different points of view, but with Doug, you’re not having that. Every person loves this man. No one had a bad relationship with him. So, you’re challenge as a writer is how do you make it that not everybody’s saying the same thing and doing the same thing. And so, we tried to find ways to make the episode about all the familial relationships and yet, how do you make it about Doug and yet broaden the scope.

Photo: JPI

I had spoken to Susan Seaforth Hayes (Julie), a week after Bill’s memorial, for an interview. She said that she felt very fortunate that you did include her on discussions of how you would tackle Doug’s passing. How did that conversation go?

RON: First, I attended Bill’s funeral, which was incredible. I said to so many people it was an emotional service, but it was hard to be sad at this. The guy had an incredible life and it was an incredible celebration. And so, you’re sitting there watching this knowing that you now have to write something similar. And how do you write something that lives up to what you just witnessed? I wanted to talk to Susan to get her thoughts about, you know, how much do you want this to be about keeping Bill separate from Doug. How comfortable are you sharing your grief. She was incredible to talk to. It was a great chat.

You’re in the middle of taping these major scenes for the 15,000 episode to air in December. How do you think it’s going? Have you seen any of the scenes?

RON:  I haven’t seeing anything. I mean, we were still making changes to the script up till this morning!

Photo: JPI

The Writers Guild Awards are this Sunday, April 14th and once again this year there are two daytime drama nominees, General Hospital and Days of our Lives. How are you feeling about your chances this year?

RON: It is often just GH and us in the category. I’ve won three years in a row, so I’m kind of feeling like it’s their turn.

Photo: JPI

What episodes did you submit for contention? If I recall, they had to do with Victor’s memorial.

RON: The episodes we submitted were centered around Victor’s funeral. I think one has story with Vivian (Louise Sorel). We had some fun stuff, we had some emotional stuff at Victor’s death, and I am pretty sure that our submission was three episodes right around that time.

Did you make the decision to go with those episodes because there was a mix of humor and drama?

RON: I like to have some humor, but it was also the funeral, then there’s Sarah (Linsey Godfrey) giving birth, and then Vivian’s crashing the reading of the will. So, we had a lot of fun and it’s hard sometimes to pick three that tell a story, as opposed to submitting for the Daytime Emmys, where the writing team only submits two shows. So, we shall see how it goes on Sunday.
