In a move no one saw coming, daytime favorite, and now former All My Children heartthrob, Thorsten Kaye (Ex-Zach) has joined the cast of CBS’ The Bold and the Beautiful!  And that’s not all!  He has been cast as the new Ridge Forrester replacing the role played for 25 years by Ronn Moss!

According to TV Guide Magazine’s  Michael Logan, the deal happened quite fast including the fact that Kaye did not know that he was going to play Ridge before he accepted a role from B&B head honcho, Brad Bell!  Thorsten will hit the  the CBS soap as the recast Ridge on December 13th.   Kaye chatted with TVG on the surprise soap jump and more.  Here are a few key excerpts below!

Thorsten on finding out he would be playing the recast Ridge:  “I didn’t know what kind of character Mr. Bell wanted me to do but he sounded so confident that he and I could work well together and do something interesting that I just bought into it. He’s a great salesman! Then not more than 20 minutes before I got on the phone with you, I found out that I’m the new Ridge, who was a cornerstone of the show. [Laughs] So that’s a whole other can of worms, isn’t it? They needed someone to step up and I guess I’m the guy.”

Thorsten on what this means for him and Prospect Park’s All My Children:  “I don’t have a contract there anymore. It’s sad, you know? And I hope it all works out for them. But when you have a solid opportunity on a show that’s so highly regarded, you just gotta take it. [Laughs]”

Thorsten Kaye on if the status of  production of AMC season two had anything to do with his decision: “There are a lot of talented and caring people over there and I wish them all luck.  And I certainly hope that my leaving will not affect the show in some bad way.  There is just so much uncertainty in this business, especially in what we’ve been trying to do with AMC.  I do believe it’s going to work out for them, but I gotta be doing something.”

So soap fans, did you ever think of all people the recast for Ridge Forrester would be Thorsten Kaye?  What do you think about an on-screen triangle featuring Don Diamont, Katherine Kelly Lang and Thorsten Kaye? Are you upset that Thorsten will not be part of All My Children in the foreseeable future?  Do you think he made the right decision? What should AMC  do  now with the character of Zach Slater?  So many questions!  Sound off in the comment section below!

Wow! I don’t see him as Ridge but I’ll sure give it a chance. He had to take a job. I’m sorry he won’t be able to be part of the online version of AMC if it does go forward, even tho I wasn’t crazy about him in the online version (I loved him on the TV version; must have been the way it was written and/or directed). Doesn’t look good for AMC coming back, does it? Rats!

well-
AMC will be back for season 2, no doubt of that ..

((as for OLTL, don’t hold your breath))

They should be in production by now but aren’t, everything’s gone quiet. Prospect Park are a joke, and I don’t believe they have any intentions of bringing either back.

Can’t blame him.. it was bound to happen. Looks like PP hasn’t been any upfront with the actors as they have the fans.

ohh geezus!
I love Thorsten Kaye !! a sexy awesome man..
I wish he would be coming to GH ..

He will do very at BB ..

I agree, Thorsten is a sexy man, who happens to be a talented actor as well. I would have loved for him to remain with AMC, but I understand his decision for sure. I think he will do very well on B&B, and I really can see him playing the new Ridge working with Brooke, etc. Ron Moss has been gone long enough, and Thorsten will fit right in, I have no doubt about that, and as a bonus, he and Jacob Young will be working together again. Much good luck to you Thorsten!!!

makes me a bit worried about the future of AMC…. PP needs to step up and give the fans some news about what is going on with production and when we should be seeing the next season start. I have’ not watched B and B, looks like I will now. I don’t blame Thorsten at all for this.

I totally agree. Prospect Park totally confuses me.

he’ll need to get plastic surgery to look plastic like everyone on that show.

I hope not…. LOL… I know you’re jiving ‘us’

it’s Thorston Kaye’ rugged oh so handsome Good Looks that show stops his masculine

Thorston – KEEP that 5 o’clock shadow… facial hair IS sex’y

No no thorsten needs a hair cut big time. he looks like a homeless man. he also needs a good shave. otherwise he is a very good looking man. He just needs s good make over.

I ADORE Thorson! Kept a photo for awhile..however, as a person in the fashion industry, I also agree he needs to CLEAN UP for the part of Ridge. I worked on ONE B&B – when I think Brooke worked for a catering company – not fond of her character! Ridge (with Thorsen) deserves better! I hope Stephie really rips the wedding apart and Hope realizes what a great guy Wyatt is! Hope LOST me again when she selfishly fired him!

I don’t blame him. Prospect Park does not seem to keep fans and cast in the loop of what is going on. Shame. I’m really going to miss those soaps. I don’t watch the soap he is going to but he made the right decision and wish him the best.

OMG!! what a shocker! i love thorsten and i love every character he has played in the soap genre – so sorry that amc is limbo but the bottom line is life goes on for the actors and needless to say they must do what they have to do……
i am looking forward to see what thorsten brings to the roll of ridge forrester – i know he will be fabulous!
just one last thought: thorsten kaye & don diamont are both two of the hottest mature actors in daytime……………….can’t wait to see what happens in december on b&b!

I agree! LOVE Thorsten Kaye and was a huge fan of his AMC work – and think he’ll be a much more sexy, rugged Ridge. Woo-hoo!!

I guess Zach and Kendal are never getting back together…i dont see amc or oltl coming back and if either one does itll be more of a reboot of the reboot with certain actors missing…and who will PP blame for that?

Great news. An actor with chops playing a key character. He’s even got a voice like Ridge/Ronn. Soaps are all about returns and recasts. Good luck Thorsten.

Would never have cast him as Ridge! Hope they have him get a haircut and a shave. I am sure KKL is happy! Someone new to seduce and get tangled up in the sheets with.

That’s Brooke. Not KKL.

Exactly. People can’t seem to distinguish between the character and the real person. Geez, I hope Tom Hanks never Captains another boat. LOL

I get what Heidi is saying… KKL, as an actor, will be excited to work with somebody new so that her character doesn’t get stale.

Glad to hear Thorsten Kaye will be back on the screen regularly. Love him and think he is great! Loved him as Zach and Patrick. Have never watched B&B, and do not know Ridge, but will start watching, and Thorsten will own the character for me since I have never seen it. Go get ’em TK! As you are a Red Wings fan, this is your power play – I know you will score a goal! 🙂

Talk about the surprise casting of the fall season! No one saw this coming! Welcome to CBS and B&B Thorsten!

When AMC and OLTL first got off the ground earlier this year, they said that in the down time, the actors could do other projects. Well, AMC had alot of down time, maybe too much, and now TK’s contract has run out. What is he supposed to do? But I can’t say that this is the perfect role for him. He’s used to creating new roles on any show he works on, and this is a main character with alot of history and alot of fans. It won’t be easy, but I wish him well. I can’t worry about what this means for AMC because right now, there is no AMC, and respectfully, all the “we’re hard at work on the second season” quotes from unnamed sources for months on end won’t convince me of that. If it comes back, I hope AMC will say that Zach left town to be with his sons and his wife, whom he never stopped loving, and who is the reason he never took off his ring. Something like that will be just fine with me.

I agree AbbyS I hope that if AMC does come back that they explain where Zach is. I like your idea of him going off to find Kendall and the boys and they are together and working on putting their family back together again.

Thorsten is talented and deserves to be working (as do the other AMC actors). I am happy for him but sad for AMC. Maybe this will cause PP to finally come forward with the truth about the “future” of AMC.

Loved him as Zach on AMC – he brought a unique blend of sexy, smokey, sultry, danger to the show. Didn’t know he didn’t have a contract, but I can’t blame him for wanting to work – he’s too talented to sit on the sidelines. I hope AMC can get MEK back, or someone to fill the void & I wish him all the best on B&B.

All of the characters had a one season contract.

the recast is stupid

Why do you feel this way?

What a pleasant surprise! Thanks Mr. Bell! Looking forward to a Brooke, Ridge, Bill triangle 🙂

Oh yeah, the testosterone chemistry between those two will be off the charts!! Nice!

I’m happy for him though I think for the world the charming Ronn Moss will always be the one and only Ridge. But as an actor Thorsten is much better and may give Ridge some more personality but honestly B&B has nothing to do with the show called the Bold and the Beautiful that once had so much elegance, glamour, style, wonderful dialogues, great sense of humour and interesting stories before it became a total joke which it has been for the last 5 years though Susan Flannery was able to keep up some of the shows long lost magic. Its golden years 1992-98 aren’t coming back. But until 2006 it was still a decent show. I’m sure I’m not the only one who turned off when Stephanie died.

Really? B&B was a one character show for you?

B&B lost alot when it lost Stephanie and Susan Flannery. The endless Hope/Liam/Steffy triangle, not even told well, kept me away. And the missed opportunities to do something wonderful with Brooke — and Eric (tho not together, please!) after Stephanie’s death are lamentable. I am with Bold and miss the B&B that used to be. Maybe this casting — Thorsten Kaye is wonderful — will help reignite this moribund repetitive LA story. I would love to see a returning Ridge powerful and strong and maybe not needing Brooke after all.

Oh no. I have never liked him. Can’t see him as Ridge. Plus, isn’t he too young?

Doesn’t he live in NY? Guess he’ll be commuting. Not a fan of this. Is he going to have an American accent? Now Thomas doesn’t look like his dad.

If TK is available to join B&B I guess that means he no longer has a contract with AMC? I think the folks at Prospect Park aren’t going to admit that they’ve cancelled production because it may invalidate their lawsuit against ABC. Good for TK, B&B needs some quality actors.

Matt supposedly his contract ended in June and B&B has had their eye on him so when he became available they grabbed him. I have always liked him I am still not sure about him as Ridge but who knows like I said I am still in the bathroom with Taylor!

In the interview he says he is not under contract to PP and that is a topic for another interview.

On one hand I think it’s an awesome choice, given his name and his acting range. In the soap community, he is one of the biggest gets out there, committed to his work and material, and with a huge fanbase of his own. But on the other, he is so opposite in nearly every way of RM, it might just be too different of a change. People in Europe who are diehards for this show and worship RM and Ridge, I believe, will have a much harder time adjusting to somebody like Thorsten. They don’t have the familiarity with him that the rest of us do, the trust we may have in him to do the job.

I know everybody is recastable (if that was a word) and the show must go on, and while I don’t necessarily disagree with the pick, I just don’t see it working long term for many reasons.

I have to admit I didn’t start watching “Bold and the Beautiful” until AMC and OLTL was cancelled on television. I love B&B now and haven’t missed an episode, Thorsten Kaye will bring so much to the show as the character Ridge Forrester although Zach Slater I know will be sorely missed on AMC. I truly think Thorsten made the right choice to pursue and play this new part as I think he will be a perfect fit on B&B.

I TOTALLY AGREE WITH U CAROLB. LOVE THORSTEN KAYE AND CAN’T WAIT UNTIL HE STARTS ON B&B. LOVE HIM.

I agree 100% love TK,loved him as zack slater and will love him as ridge forester

I turned to B&B after the cancellations. Plus, I just didn’t feel like going through all the trouble to try to get AMC and OLTL if it wasn’t on ABC at their regular time. Guess I’m a creature of habit. So since I don’t have a long time history of Ridge, look forward to seeing Thorsten fill the role. Huge loss for AMC. Boy, B&B really plays the love triangle for all it’s worth. Maybe they should learn from GH which is great right now, and turn the storyline over quicker. Still really miss OLTL. Have tried Y&R but it’s just not the same for me.

Oh no…really? Not my first choice.

This is the most awesome of awesome-ness! Can’t wait to see his portrayal. I predict new Bridge scenes will be scortching hawt!

This one is indeed a head scratcher. I am still in the bathroom with Taylor so I doubt if I will see this because to be quite honest I am not up for two men fighting over Brooke Logan just we have been there and done that over & over.

Haven’t watched this belligerant Bell bomb for years, but I simply cannot envision the rough, rugged Kaye as the refined, recherche’ Ridge! Despite his regrettably-limited dramatic range, the indelible image of actor Ronn Moss will always loom large in the romantic rogue role….he emphatically embodied the exotic, elegant elder heir to the Forrester fashion empire! Thus, his “Ridge” will prove an almost impossible act for anyone to follow!

“Belligerent…” What’s up with the spell-check?….Weird..

Every day we will here more and more about actors leaving Prospect Park … Josh Kelly, Thorsten Kaye.

Eventually there will be no one left which will be appropriate since “All My Children” and “One Life to Live” will sadly not return anyway.

that’s a sad prospect….

unfortunately, more truer, then any of us care to know

I don’t see him as Ridge either, but to be honest I would watch him just read the phone book.

Maybe they can find someone besides Brooke to pair him with. I hope they don’t bring back Taylor, not a fan.

I think Thorsten will morph Ridge into a tortured creative artist rather than Ronn’s buttoned up corporate CEO. So looking forward to this.

I agree with everything you said. TK’s quite a departure from stone faced RM, but I’ve never seen him in a role that I didn’t love. I may be forced to watch B&B again, after ten years or more away. 🙂

Who knows I might like it better without Taylor. 😉

I agree with both you guys. Kaye is a wonderful actor. I always referred to Ronn as RIDGE the ROBOT. Kaye will at least give Ridge a personality. Please keep Brooke’s hands off him. Brooke & Bill truly deserve one another.

Actually I haven’t even miss the character Ridge on B&B– the character was hardly the cornerstone of the show– and now we have yet another triangle to contend with Brooke/Bill/ Ridge—yawn— don’t know this actors’ work but unless they write a half way decent story for him, I rather Ridge stay in Paris.

I just SO “wish”

that Macy, Thorne, and whomever, Jon Hensley portrays on B&B

would return… front and center… to supplant Brooke/Bill/Ridge

these 2 trio’s would magnetic appeal SO much

Sad he won’t be apart of season 2 of AMC but the need for a job is certainly understandable. With him working in LA, makes me wonder where his wife, Susan Haskell, might turn up.

I don’t get this casting decision at all. I just…..don’t get it. Maybe more words will come to me later.

Good for him! I might have to start watching B&B now. If they keep adding to the cast they are going to have to make it an hour long soap. My question is will he be using his sexy accent? Ridge left town and comes back with a Scottish/British accent.

From a business sense this is smart casting. Kaye is a popular daytime commodity so B&B certainly hopes audiences from OLTL and AMC will follow. Kaye will bring something new to the Ridge Forrester character if writers allow him to play it. An edge, a ruggedness. I also hope reintroducing Ridge revives the Forrester family. As someone who watched “back in the day,” I miss the Forresters as a family and the class divide it had with the Logans. That is all gone now. I want to see more business and fashion and maybe some politics. I am tired of the Brooke Logan dramas. I am tired of the forced stories for the children and grandchildren. I say clean house and focus. And make LA — with its Hollywood bright lights and dark side of dreams — more in the atmosphere. give me a powerful matriarch to replace Stephanie, or in the case of Eric, a patriarch. As long as 50-somethings Brooke and Bil and others act like children, there is no gravitas in the storytelling. Kaye may be able to be that kind of character. A genuine force with integrity and wisdom and trust… if he can be a new Ridge Forrester.

Honestly don’t know what to think of this……………

Will be very interesting to watch.

Good for him, a far better actor than the dreadful Ron Moss!!!

Interesting.

Bravo!!! NuRidge, and fabulous actor for #CHRISTMAS.

Good news for the actor. Another indication that Prospect Park has not been upfront and honest with the fans and actors. If production is suppose to start this month, why doesn’t he have a contract with AMC? Doesn’t make any sense. When I see more and more actors from OLTL and now AMC, this makes me believe that Prospect Park have no plans to bring the shows back. Definitely not OLTL, maybe AMC, but will they have a lot of the same actors from Season 1. Actors are people too and this will be a good move for him as an actor, congrats!

Michael Fairman – what do you think of this?

Epic fail.

Sad news for AMC. Great news for B&B. B&B needs a great actor. I only watch it occasionally because it is really light in the way of story lines. Everybody sleeps with everybody….end of story. I am tired of waiting on PP.

Survival of the Fittest. Good for him. Loyally stuck by AMC so this is his reward (karma-wise).

THis IS A DumB recast.. Ridge is pretty, not scrony and hairy! YucK, never like Zach on AMC and now hes coming to BB.. GOODBYE, B&B!!

I respect Ron Moss but was never a fan of his “Ridge”. I believe Thorsten Kay will bring much needed attributes to the character an the show. His role in “Smash” playing opposite Angelica Houston was phenomenal. He has the acting chops necessary to take on this pivotal role. Looking forward to this change.

Thorsten is a very talented actor and he can make any role his own even one that has so much history behind it. I am sorry that his contract with AMC expired because of all the uncertainties of the PP production, however I am happy for Thorsten that he has found work and a lead role on a popular show. I have to admit I have tried to watch B&B on several occasions, but never became a fan, because I found the writing too much about musical chairs between couples and triangles….something I find distasteful and boring in a show. I will give it another chance because of Thorsten. I will not watch any revival AMC without Zach and Kendall or with any recast of either of the characters…. Thorsten Kaye and Alicia Minshew are the only Zendall for me. Their magic together is not replaceable.

I started watching B&B when the cancellations took place but honestly have never liked most of the characters, I thought they were all pretty shallow..I luv luv luv TK!!! I just hate the thought of him being with the icky skank Brooke…or
Budinsky Taylor…maybe his character will come back with a new lady & I mean lady…not a one tear drama queen like Brooke who justifies all her disgusting behaviours..but if I stuck it out with the horrible trio of Liam, Steffy & Hope, though I do like Hope…hope she leaves Liam for good..I will definitely watch TK..just because I think he is one of the hottest & most talented men of soaps..I’ll take him with the shadow & long hair any day over Ron Moss..

So we’ve found out over the past several years that bringing a “big name” from one soap doesn’t guarantee popularity on another.

I watched him on the reboot of AMC and wasn’t that impressed. Good actor, but he’s going to need a complete redo if he’s going to fit into that show.

The cast is very polished and has a certain look that this dude currently doesn’t have…yet. And he’ll have to try to make Ridge his own because for a lot of longtime viewers, that character is so established with Moss.

Brad Bell has done it yet again!!!! This is the casting bombshell of the year!!! Thorsten Kaye certainly shouldn’t blamed for wanting to provide for his family, as AMC’s future looks uncertain. I watched him on AMC, and he is a PHENOMENAL actor. After all these years, Ridge will have some depth to him. Nothing against Ronn Moss, and I loved the Brooke/Ridge/Taylor triangle, and will miss the flashbacks, but I really believe Brad Bell has some MAJOR story lined up if he’s waited this long to recast Ridge. I even believe he went to Ronn Moss and wanted him to return, but felt a recast is moving the show forward. That being said, Ridge’s return to LA will be firing on ALL cylinders for sure!!!! Brooke and Eric will certainly lash out at him for being absent when Stephanie’s death, and him and Brooke have a TON of unfinished business seeing as how he dumped her over a text on their honeymoon!!! This is SO exciting and can you imagine the look on Bill’s face when Ridge gets home???? Bill will for the first time, be quaking in his boots!!!! Katie said mouthful when she spoke of all of Brooke’s past weddings and her “destiny”. B&B is gonna be cant miss in 2014!!!! BRAVO!!!!!

I have to admit, Richard — you said it well. Brad Bell is a genius on so many levels. Thank God one daytime drama is still faithful to the landscape!

Now he needs to recast Steffy.

Carol Burnett Talks About Being a Superfan of ‘All My Children’ on ‘Live with Kelly and Mark’

In a heartfelt reunion, of sorts, the one and only Carol Burnett appeared on Monday March 25th episode of Live with Kelly and Mark.

Burnett had first met Kelly Ripa (Hayley) and Mark Consuelos (ex-Mateo) back when they all appeared on All My Children together. Carol played Verla Grubbs first in 1983 and then again in the 90’s.

Host Kelly Ripa (ex-Hayley, AMC) noted to Burnett that “we go back a long time”. She also described Burnett’s character of Verla Grubbs, “extraordinary in every way.”

Carol’s love for All My Children is well-documented, hence legendary soap creator, Agnes Nixon, created the role of Verla for Burnett.

Photo: ABC

Speaking on how her passion for All My Children began, Carol told Kelly and Mark, “It started with my kids. They would watch at noon. I said, ‘What are you guys doing?’ I sat down and I started to watch and I got hooked!”

When Carol’s family decided to travel through Europe during one summer, the comedic legend recalled thinking, “How am I going to last if I don’t know what’s going on in Pine Valley?” She revealed she had a friend, “who sent me a telegram to the (different hotels) on Fridays to bring me up to date.”

Photo: ABC

In a hilarious moment from the segment, Carol recalled receiving a late night telegram while in Lake Cuomo when there was a knock at her hotel room door from the hotel manager who was shaking.

Carol related what it said, “Erica is still in a coma. Mark slipped again and ran away from rehab.” As Kelly and Mark broke into laughter, Burnett continued, “Chuck has learned that Donna is carrying his baby, who was once a hooker.”

Check out Carol explaining how she became an AMC Superfan below.

Malachy McCourt, ‘Ryan’s Hope’ and ‘All My Children’ Actor, Dead at 92

If you watched Ryan’s Hope through its 14-year-run, you know that Kevin the bartender became a beloved “member’ of the Ryan clan on the defunct ABC daytime drama series. The character of Kevin MacGuiness became so loved by the fans because of the actor who portrayed him, Malachy McCourt.

Sadly, according to his wife Diana McCourt to The New York Times, Malachy passed away on Monday from a heart condition and battling cancer. The actor was 92-years-old.

Playing Kevin on Ryan’s Hope was not much of a stretch for McCourt, because in his lifetime, he was the owner of 1950s Irish pub Malachy’s on Third Avenue in Manhattan. Known as one of the city’s great story-tellers, patrons from longshoremen to the actor Richard Harris would stop in and talk all things Irish with . On Ryan’s Hope, Kevin was best friends to “Ryan’s Bar” owner, Johnny Ryan (Bernie Barrow) and he tried to keep Delia (Ilene Kristen) on the straight and narrow.

In his soap opera career, McCourt also was widely-known for his role of Father Clarence McCourt on All My Children especially come Christmastime. Was Clarence, actually St. Nick? That was always the proverbial question. McCourt also appeared on the New York soaps: One Life To Live, Search For Tomorrow and Another World. Other roles included: Devil’s Own, Brewster’s Millions, The Molly Maguires, and Starman, to name

Later in 2006, Malachy ran for governor of the state of New York as a Green Party candidate. He tackled social issues of the time including being an advocate for gay and lesbian groups to march in the annual St. Patrick’s Day Parade.

McCourt’s childhood was recounted within his brother Frank McCourt’s Pulitzer Prize-winning memoir Angela’s Ashes, which detailed their mother’s attempt to raise the four of their surviving seven children in poverty in Limerick, Ireland. Later, Malachy wrote his own memoirs: 1998’s Monk Swimming, and 2000’s Singing My Him Song.

Malachy is survived by his aforementioned wife, Diana, daughter Siobhan McCourt; sons Malachy Jr., Conor and Cormac; stepdaughter Nina Galin; nine grandchildren; and one great-grandson.
