Days Of Our Lives

Crystal Chappell OUT at DAYS! Shows decision not to renew contract!

More shockers in the soap world continue and this one is heartbreaking!  Crystal Chappell (Carly Manning), whose contract is set to expire in August at Days of our Lives was just informed that the series has decided to not renew her contract.  Chappell took to her husband, actor, Michael Sabatino’s twitter account to announce the news to her legions of fans and twitter followers.

Chappell tweeted, “Using Michael’s phone/Droid’s dead. Want you to know, as I understand it, DOOL has decided not to renew my contract. I’m sad but grateful for the opportunity. I made new friends and got Venice up and running thanks to you. I wish DAYS much success. P.S Not the new writers decision. P.S.S Michael’s phone sucks. Onward! XO”

With shows being canceled, soap stars contracts not being renewed, and fan favorites being let-go, this just reinforces the continuing troubled waters of the daytime landscape. So, how do you feel about Chappell being let-go?  How do you think the writers will have Carly exit Salem? Let us know!

I think its a horrible decision but what should we expect from Days? They allowed Dena Higley to almost destroy the show. Do they not remember how they were at number 3 when Carly returned? Basically what I’m saying is that there idiots.

AGREED!!

WooHoo!! Bye…bye Carly (Crystal Chappell). I didn’t care for her being with Bo, there was no chemistry although I have to say I think Crystal starting falling for Peter in real life. I’m glad she is going to be written off. In fact I wish they would show more scenes of Bo and Hope at the hospital so Carly can see. What did Carly expect to be with Bo forever? Nope not with Hope in town….

Marie, why are you starting a terrible rumor about Crystal and Peter? I know your mother taught you better than than. If you can’t say anything nice, stitch your lips shut and break your fingers so you can’t type. That is the most asinine thing I have ever heard. PR and CC are happily married to KM and MS. Take your lies to another board, preferably DR. They would pay for shit like this. Don’t start that here.

Of anyone wants to know who starts all the lies my finger is pointed towards Bope fans. The proof came right from Marie mouth.

How about this Faith L.; I’ve been watching this SOAP since Hope was born. Let me tell you, if Ms. Krisiten hadn’t been such a spoiled girl and left the show for what she thought was bigger and better, there wouldn’t have been a Carly character. Carly and Bo most definitely have way more chemistry than Bo and Hope have for years now. They are the boring ones; exactly how many scenes can one do together. Ask John & Marlena?? The point is to combine the old with the new; I think the Carly character was great and she is an excellent actress; Kristen A. is a great actress too, but I belive her jealousy got the best of her. There’s room enough for both; look at Sami & Nicole’s characters. I think it’d be great to see more of Carly & her son, etc… The “real” days of old…. So K.A. needs to get off her soap box “B” and share the spot light…. Jealousy is not becoming; even in an actress… p.s. 30 years on a show does not mean you OWN it……

I am seriously pissed about this decision. Idiot move made by execs who obviously aren’t listening to the fans. Crystal is one of the most talented people on that show and to be let go when there is still so much story left to be told disgusts me. Let the letter writing begin.

i watched DOOL when kristen was on…. Eileen Davidson…. loved her…. when she left… i lost interest… came back to DOOL when crystal chappel came back… now i’ve lost interest again.. fabulous actresses… intelligent, sexy, and fun to watch… sad that soaps are done…. now i watch old soap clips on you tube… classic soaps… the good ole days… soaps are better than the junk nowadays… “reality” tv comes and goes so fast…. soaps were an everyday gig….

I totally agree with your post designergirl777. More than one idiot is running this ship; probably why they have trouble competing. I wish they’d let me write that show; I’ve watched since before Bo & Hope. I agree with the everyday gig comment also; with that scenario, why do we want to watch something without any “history” behind it. Sorry if K.A. is shrinking up……that was mean.

Is DOOL lost. Having an actress as Crystal Chappell help the show ratings, they will see the decrease in ratings. Sad. 🙁

Sadly, this show will continue to go down. I only watch and many others only watch to see Crystal Chappell. Stupid move on DOOL part.

Days of our live just lost the biggest talent they had, Crystal Chappell! chappellfan4evr

A B S O L U T E L Y

She’s better off IMO. She’s always been too good for DOOL. ONWARD! Indeed! I will just have to encourage even more people to subscribe to Venice and now The Grove. Best soaps around… and The Grove hasn’t even started. 🙂

DAYS just lost another viewer …not sure how many they have left. Letting Crystal go is a HUGE mistake. How do you let the most talented actress in daytime go??

I agree, this is a huge mistake. I can think of a few others that should go but not Carly.

AGREED! I only started watching Days for CC and I’m sure I’m not the only one… there goes their ratings. Idiots. Thank goodness for Venice.

I am so upset… I have no words. Days of our Lives is absolutely on it’s way out if it doesn’t start LISTENING to the fans. Crystal has a huge vocal fanbase that support Days. Ridiculous decision. I began watching Days in 1990 and left angry and upset with what they did to Carly 1.0 in 1993. Now to return and see it happen all over again is just unbelievable. As a Peter Reckell fan, I am really torn about continuing to watch this show. If I do, it won’t be as a supportive fan of Days, it will be to support Peter, who in my opinion hasn’t been done any favours by the current regime either. Days has a number of VERY talented actors that are spinning their wheels in stories that don’t challenge them, don’t make sense, and upset their fans again and again. Change needs to happen at this show or the free fall will just continue. The new head writers better get their wits about them…
Upset. Angry. Sad. Tired of this mess of a show. Yes I am.

Days has never realized how many fans of Crystal there were in the early 90s or how many more came along with her return. The show is going down with or without Crystal, but it will just be a faster fall now. She is the most talented actress in the business. Every scene she is in just has a higher quality. Apparently, Days doesnt want high quality, or know what to do with it. As a Bo and Carly fan from 20 years ago, I am sad to see this amazing opportunity lost. So much potential with Crystal on the show, with or without a Bo and Carly pairing. As a Crystal fan, I will always be faithful to her.

DOOL just blew the return of Carly Manning. To put it bluntly, I do not think they had any idea how to write for an actress of Crystal’s caliber or for someone riding the wave of popularity she had coming to Days. This is a daytime superstar and your bumbing idios at Days blew it. Ken Corday sat on his hands and let Gary Tomlin and Dena Higley ruin Carly’s return and the show period. It is almost as if he just does not care. The daytime landscape has changed and there is no turning back. Crystal will be fine, she is too talented for daytime and I hope she starts auditioning for primetime. Enough with daytime Crystal, your legacy is sealed, now on to bigger and better things. The only upside to this is Crystal/Carly fans can remove Days from their daily viewing/dvrs. Days of Our Lives is torture to watch and these new writers will do nothing to improve that. Keep bringing back fan favorites only to ruin their characters. I have a feeling that more cuts are coming. What idiots.

Carly’s return happened awhile back. Now, I think they blew it, but they blew it some time back. They brought her back and didn’t follow through with a decent storyline for her. Now, the new writers are having to fix everything the old ones destroyed and some people have to go. Unlike a lot of people, though. I don’t think the show is lost without her. She’s a good actress, but I never liked the storylines they gave her. Any. Time. Not just this time. Too much unused potential.

Days had given Crystal poorly written stories and then followed that up with having her prop up other characters. This is an Emmy winning actress who doesn’t even need an Emmy to show how good she is. I came to Days with Crystal Chappel and I will leave with her too. I am looking forward to her new web show “The Grove”, her new production company and will continue to support her in making those, as well as Venice, a success.

It definitely shows they aren’t listening to the fans because I know for a fact her fanbase is awesome, writes to them constantly, sends her things to the set and calls/emails. They just don’t listen to us which is why they are at the bottom of the ratings barrel.

Not renewing Crystal Chappell’s contract is THE WORST MISTAKE DOOL could have made. You don’t let your best talent go when you are already in danger of cancellation. In my opinion, this is the final nail in their sarcophagus.

As far as Crystal is concerned, she is a force to be reckoned with. Crystal is a beautiful, talented, and smart lady. She already has bigger and better things in the makings. She has a legion of fans that will GO WITH HER and support her in any project that she undertakes. To quote the beautiful lady, “ONWARD” !!!!!!!!!!!

Oh, they let their best talent go ages ago. . .

If their best talent was let go ages ago, they wouldn’t have been let go in the first place!

Not true. The people I’m thinking of that were let go were not dropped because they were bad actors. There were other issues involved.

What a huge mistake for Days to even consider letting Crystal Chappell go!!! There were so many intriguing directions they could have taken the story, and they decide to not renew her contract?!

I would watch Crystal Chappell read the phone book…guess I won’t have much of a reason to keep watching Days if they go through with this….

DOOL has not been paying attention. Since Crystal’s return 2009, the ratings have been way up. I guess they really have no idea how many fans actually followed Crystal to DAYS! They’re making a HUGE mistake! Crystal Chappell is just a phenominal actress!! They’re lost!
@MIZZJ08

I don’t think DOOL did Crystal any justice at all. There was so much potential and they blew it. I believe Crystal should be on main stream TV she is of a higher caliber than anything Days could write for her. Look forward to Crystal’s future projects on the web and on TV.

The fans were able to save Rebecca Herbst on GH, maybe we can do the same for Crystal

Crystal Chappell is the most gracious, talented actor around. I’ve been watching soaps since they were on radio, I’m old, and I have NEVER seen anyone “knock it out of the park” as an actor like Crystal does. Day after day, no matter how shallow the writing on Days, she gave it her best and that was wonderful to observe. I left Days in 1993 when she left and I will not watch it again when she is gone now. Crystal is being classy about this and I’m trying to be classy too when I really want to say . . . I’m so honored to be a fan of hers and will follow her no matter what she decides to do next.

This sucks! I was really hoping the character of Quinn would turn out to be Nicky and bring Carly into his storyline. The show is trying to get itself cancelled!

Dumb decision. I never ever watched Days until Crystal came on it. Now I tape it and watch it the same day(it is on the same time in Detroit as AMC). She is my favorite along with Victor K. and Sami and Molly Burnett. I will hard pressed to continue watching with Crystal leaving. Bad decision.

I’m done with DOOL. I watched that awful show purely for Crystal, but to be honest, they didn’t deserve her. Crystal deserves so much better. Onward Crystal. You have our love and support, always.

I feel like I did when they announced the end of AMC and OLTL–cheated. I began watching DOOL strictly because I wanted to watch Crystal Chappell act. It’s been hard waiting over a year for her to finally have a storyline worthy of her skills and now this? Sorry DOOL, I’m just not that hooked into the rest of your cast to stay with you once she’s gone. Soap fans are fickle…and I think you just lost a ton of viewers.

DOOL failed to provide storylines worthy of Crystal’s talent… this is probably the best thing that could have happened to her. Stand back folks, she’s just getting started!

I only read the news on these sites, but had to come out for this one. I stopped watching DAYS years ago because I couldn’t handle the crazy train they were on. I ONLY came back because of Crystal Chappell, hoping they would give her something worth her TALENT! And even though they didn’t (she makes sh!t smell good), I stuck around. Can’t say I didn’t expect this to happen though. So when she last airs, I will stop watching. I need my sanity back! Good luck, Crystal, in your future endeavors…I raise my glass (since I know you love a good drink) to you and your bravery in keeping this genre going. And for that you will always have my utmost support and respect!
I’m a true soap opera fan…nuff said!

It is just another nail in the coffin for SOAPS in general. Crystal was and continues to be an asset to any show. Sad to see her go, but excited at the thought that it frees her up to do other things. A talent that huge should not be confined to poor writing and the constraints of Network Television. Onward Crystal!!! You RAWK!

I think pretty soon, there won’t be any daytime soap left, but Crystal will always have her fans and she is already embarking and leading on this new journey of good quality webseries genre. People are gonna be following her and her teams’ footsteps. the networks gonna be sorry that they canceled their favorites and soaps. I only went back to watching cuz CC’s on.

This is the anatomy of a cancellation. Destroy the show before pulling the plug. Days’ days are numbered.

No Crystal=No ratings,…she’s the survivor, remember? Now we can continue to follow her success as Days sinks like the Titanic! Network soap fans always get disappointed, it’s our reward for loyalty! Crystal knows who loves her…and we’ll never LET HER GO!!!

Big L*O*V*E to you CC… *smack* ☮♡☺xo♥♀♀✩ツ♫

30+ year viewer of Days is now gone! Over the years I have watch Days on and off. Loved Carly 1.0 – less than thrilled how they wrote Carly 2.0. They used her to garner publicity off the ending of GL/Otalia story. They put the most talented actress (only Emmy winning actress on that show) used her as a prop. Watch the ratings plummet further – this is the end of Days. I am done with Days. I can thank KC & Company for freeing up the space on my DVR! Corday’s parent are rolling over in their graves with the way he has handled this soap. Good luck Crystal! We will follow you to “The Grove”!

I’m so disappointed in this decision by Days! I was hoping with the writing changes that things would turn around for the show and Crystal. But Crystal said it wasn’t the new writers that decided not to renew her contract, so it’s Corday’s blunder. I just don’t understand it at all. She didn’t sink days in the ratings, it was the EJ/Sami/Rafe story that angered fans.

Higley didn’t really write a triangle for Carly/Bo/Hope either! It was like Carly and Hope were in different stories! I think they had only one big scene with one another in the year and a half long story.

I suppose Louise Sorell will be next. 🙁

I’m so depressed. I will keep watching Days, I’m loyal to the show, but I will really miss seeing Crystal on my soap on a regular basis. This is going to be so hard. I wish her the best of luck finding another gig. It’s going to hard for her as she has been working steady for 12 years on daytime.

Goodbye Salem and hello to The Grove. I just don’t have words right now.

This is one bad move from Day’s. They disrespect her and her talent. CC know that you have a fan in Europe that will follow you.

“the end of Days”: truer words were never spoken!

I hurt for CC—for her family, and the paycheck DooL provided…

…but truth is, DooL was TORTURE to watch (I tried to be loyal to the show, but SHOULD have just watched Carly clips!). They have a few good actors: John Aniston, Lauren Koslow, Aly Sweeney, and Arianne Zucker (who NEVER phones it in).

But overall narrative is so effed up, that even the BEST headwriter would need *at least* a year to turn it around. Without Crystal, I’d be surprised they have even that much time left. Add to the changing demographics, and yeah: the end of Days is coming SOON. Pity.

…but “onward” and UP, to The Grove! Where a woman is married to a woman (and oh yeah: they’re GORGEOUS!)

I’m totally PO’ed that DOOL has let Crystal go! Damn!

Getting rid of your best talent is a beyond-stupid move. What a
shabby way to treat an actress who was a tireless supporter of DOOL and always gave her all despite horrible writing.

I’m disgusted and depressed. CC’s last day on the show will be mine too.

I’m sad for Crystal. That being said, I now will get to quit watching this crap show. Days is the worst written soap I have ever seen. So many talented actors going to waste. When AMC and OLTL got canceled I was shocked it wasn’t Days first. Crystal is to good of an actress. She will be just fine. To DOOL I say, “Good Luck with those ratings.”

I have to ask. You couldn’t quit watching before? I’m not being snarky. I just don’t understand. Never have I ever been so enamoured of an actor’s or actress’ ability that I will watch a show that I consider “crap” to see them. In the same way that if my favorite writer wrote a bad book I won’t read it, or my favorite singer makes a horrible (to me) recording I won’t listen. There’s always other stuff do watch, read, listen to. Other things I can invest my time in. It’s just a way of living I don’t understand, to invest in something I think is poorly done just because of one person’s contribution.

Was not happy about the news of the firing when I wrote that. I was wrong. I followed most GL actors to other soaps also. I think there are many great talents on DOOl, and I don’t want to see any of them jobless. I hope the writing get better and the show can comeback in the ratings . We have lost way to many soaps already.

I hope the writing on the show comes back a lot. I’m not a big soaps fan. Only watch Days, which I’ve watched from 1965, so I don’t follow actors from soap to soap. I do have favorite actors of course, like I have favorite TV shows or musicians, but I’ve never been a big follower in the since having to see or hear everything someone does.

Many of Crystal’s fans are saying they will stop watching . I don’t have to see or hear everything someone does. I do however respect the opinions of others, and their veiwing choices are none of my business. I would never tell anyone how or who to watch. Like I said I do hope the show comes back in the ratings. I love soaps like some people like football or basketball. To many soaps have been canceled. But if the writing does not get better it won’t matter who is on.

TPTB at DOOL are fools for letting Chappell go! She is a fan favorite and talented beyond compare. Her ability to make everyone watching know exactly what she is feeling without having to walk around Salem talking to herself was a breath of wonderfully fresh air! Even more sad is that DOOL underutilized her while she was there! She could have rocked that show… if they had let her!! Looking forward to someone smarter snapping up this daytime icon!!

WTH!!! what is up with days CC is amazing actress. BIG LOSS!!!!

very poor decision with her huge fan base..However Crystal is so talented and will have great success in here future endeavors. I hate it for DOOL viewers. Its just one more nail in the coffin.

Hate Carly with a passion on DOOL, but love CC :'( Sucks to see anyone lose their job.

DOOL = R.I.P

I was 12 when I saw CC n Peter for the first time on days.I am living in germany n they didn´t air all of days but the Carbo storyline. I was 12 n I hid behinde the couch to watch it. OMFCC..how many times my mom yelled at me n kicked me out cuze of days, tee hee XDDD! I am so not a TV or cinema fan but CC got me chappelled n guess what..I didn´t know she´s still acting till I saw Otalia!I M still mad that they robbed her (Emmys) but I have to say that m more than glad she´s out of this ridiculous mess called days!I only watched it cuze of her n I mean really day´s writers? Some weeks she got what? 1 1/2 minutes or sumthin?or even just a sneak peak ..wtf… She is so talented n they never ever did her justice..never!!It was just a big ol´ ironic catastroph this Carly/Carbo of em! Now I don´t have to watch it any more ..thnk goddess!! m soo looking forward -> Venice n the Grove!! There u´ll see what she´s down pat! *thumps up*

Hallelujah..ratings have been in a steady decline since she returned and we had to watch her every freaking day for months on end. She’s been given a story probably is there is nothing sympathetic about her portrayal or the character. What a self obsessed selfish 1 toned character she is and was 18years ago. Carly version 1 and Carly version 2 failed big time. The only talent CC has is how to tank a show and get get it cancelled. THANK THE SOAP GODS she’s gone. DOOL can go back to the characters and storylines that made it number 1

Come on. The ratings rose when she arrived and held steady for a long time. It’s this kind of one sided argument that keeps fanwars going strong and hate running high. No one character or pairing makes or breaks a show. Crystal Chappell is a very popular actress. You may not like her, but that doesn’t make her a failure. Carly 1.0 was a huge fan favorite. Bo and Carly WERE described as a supercouple in 1991. And Ken Corday brought Crystal back to capitalize on her talent and the huge fan following he knew she had. Clearly he felt no obligation to her, and that is shameful imo, but it doesn’t make her any less talented or make her exit any less of a blow to her many many fans.
I think people need to keep cognizant of the fact that these are people we are talking about, not just characters. And have a little bit of respect for a loss that is being felt by a lot of Carly fans.
Just my opinion.

You have no idea what you are talking about Carly 1.0 was a hit with the fans ratings were high, the fans went nuts. She & Peter Reckell were on talk shows, because they were hugely popular! The writers gave her poor writing for Carly 2.0! If she would have had great writing for Carly 2.0 it would have been different! Even with the awful writing Crystal gave it to perfection! This article is for the fans that love Crystal, there isn’t room on here for people that are negative hurtful remarks! Days didn’t have good ratings before Crystal, that is why Crystal was hired! Like the other poster said give respect for the loss of her character Carly! Once Crystal is gone from Days you & everyone gloating about her departure will see just how big of a fall in ratings will be!

In what universe has Days ever been #1 I think you have it confused with Y&R!

Carly was popular, Carly and Bo were definitely NOT a popular couple.

Yes, they were very popular, you may not want to believe it, but it is true. Maybe you didn’t want Carbo 1.0 or Carbo 2.0. But the were back then & they still are!

Umm yeah I have been watching the show since 1985 and they were no where near as popular as Bope was back then, and they fell FLAT during their reconnection in 2009! Even though they were a couple throughout 2010, we hardly ever saw them together and in love. Maybe it’s because Bo was still in love with Hope. Oh well none of this matters, Bope wins.

Whatever helps you sleep at night, but the truth remains Carbo was then & is also now as popular as Bope! I watched both times myself, and Bope didn’t compare to Carbo! Bope wins how childish are you? Bope won’t win when they cancel Days, and then we get the last laugh! Enjoy it while you can, it won’t last regardless, it never does!

Karen, you are the one on here attacking Crystal & her character Carly, & all our opinions on here, I don’t need to calm down, you expressed your dislike for Carly, and I am telling you my opinion! I am not alone if you read all the responses to your post! Not everyone agrees with you they are passionate about Carbo as you are Bope! You need to calm down & quit trying to push Bope down our throats they have zero chemistry if you want to talk chemistry!

An Ally yeah it is a show, tell that to Karen you two can watch Bope all you want they are boring & the ratings will stay at the bottom! So lol who cares what you think either, you’re a Bope fan!

Normally I don’t reply to nasty comments such as this because mostly people who write such things simply want attention. But your comment is borderline bullying and that I can not be silent about. Its one thing to not like a character but its another to attack an actor. And the fact that you can say such things about someone a sweet and nice a Crystal.. Well, Shame on you! CC didn’t tank this show, the horrid writing did and it will continue to do so no matter WHO the bring in.

Beth, it doesn’t matter how long it lasts, the point is they lasted longer than no-love Carbo. Talk about no chemistry at all, Carbo lost whatever they might have had years ago.

Karen, fact remains I don’t care what you think, I know Carbo had more chemistry then Bope ever did, you can go on & on, but it isn’t going to change my opinion or any other Carbo fan! Convince yourself, but don’t waste your energy on us!

And I don’t care what you think Beth. How about calming down and stop attacking people that don’t share your opinion. There are plenty of us trust that. Carbo has ZERO chemistry, Bope do. I don’t have to convince anyone and you do not get to tell me where to go at all. I can post my opinion here all I want.

lol beth its just a show. Carly 2.1 or whatever wasn’t a good fit for a lot of Days fans. many of us feel Carly is overrated and could care less if she is on or not. She’s gone, cc is doing fine and bope are back together. Life is swell. This is Days of Our Lives, not the Crystal chapel show.

The reality Karen, is that Ken Corday, ran scared from telling any plausible story between Bo and Carly … it was not about the lack of chemistry between Peter and Crystal, which of course they have. Kristian Alfonso rides on the popularity of Peter Reckell, and on history … because she is a less than mediocre actress. Funny how even Bo and Hope fans sometimes are confused at what is supposed to be happening on-screen in terms of the “love” between Bo and Hope. Funny how the boards rarely utter a peep when Bo and Hope are on, or even when Kristian had her almost year-long run. Are we talking about ratings tanker? If DAYS had the balls to put both pairings up against each other … toe to toe … there is no doubt who would be the winner. DAYS couldn’t even write a good triangle for all three actors, so heck, this in itself was a flaw.

And let’s face it … if Bo and Hope were as popular as you say they were … they’d won every stinking poll in the past two years no matter how much spamming was involved. Bo and Hope may have “won” … yes, based on historical relevance. Their reunion is still rather flawed, lol, and their issues have not even been addressed. Let’s just throw these two characters together just because just because. Yep, clear winner.

I’m not going to continue battling over this, I am passionate about Carbo as you are Bope, it’s not a win win situation! Nothing I say will change your mind & nothing you say will change my mind! This is running around in circles, no one is right & no one is wrong, we all our entitled to our opinions whether we each agree or not! I know I would never have went on a KA message board & been happy if it had been her! I know her fans would have been sad & angry & I would respect that! So to the Bope fans congrats on them being back together, long may it last!

I’m not even celebrating that CC is gone from dool nor am i happy about it. I’m really neutral to that. IMO she’s overrated. BUT It’s Carly I hate, not CC. I wouldn’t go on a CC message board either and gloat about her firing. But lets remember this isn’t a crystal chappell forum and people that don’t think she’s gods gift to Daytime can post here too.

To lalala: Carbo don’t have chemistry according a lot of us. It isn’t a fact, it’s all just opinion. IMO Bope wins over Carbo everytime – no question about it! No need to insult the actress KA, it just shows the lack of class some cc fans have thats all. Hopefully you’ll realize this is just a show, and one day stop taking these things so seriously….

Ally yes you all have a right to post, but I still think it’s not respectful to come on an article about Crystal, and make negative remarks about her or her character That is lack of class to me. Like I said I would never go on a KA article or forum speaking negatively or gloating if it had been her. I would have understood, that her fans were upset & angry! I don’t think KA is a good actress in comparison to CC, and I am entitled to feel that way, and KA is not God’s gift to DOOL! Like I said you are entitled to how you feel, I just think KA fans should be more respectful, this article isn’t about KA now is it?

Um Ally Please lets not point fingers at fan bases because if we are being honest the classless acts come form BOTH side. I believe it was a KA fan that just wrote disparaging comments about CC on here, not Carly. If someone lacks something its not because they are a fan of one actor or another its because they lack it within themselves. So if you have an issue with something that someone said please address the individual specifically and not categorize members of a fan base.

We are allowed to insult characters, it is real people like KA and CC that shouldn’t be put down. I haven’t put down cc at all, but I have notcied quite a few people making nasty comments about KA on here and other sites. Like its her fault or something lol. I clearly prefer KA and her acting to CC, but I haven’t insulted CC. I just hate Carly the character on a show.

Like I said It comes from BOTH fan bases. I know all my CC fan friends are not innocent and I have seen KA fans say nasty things about CC and the sad part is it DOES get back to the actors, they know and see the things written. Not saying you said these things, and there is nothing wrong with you preferring bope to carbo that’s your prerogative, but you did say, “it just shows the lack of class some cc fans have thats all”. My point is its not a CC thing OR a KA thing. If there is a finger to be point its at the individual.

Oh and 30 year + viewer back now that CC is gone. Can NOT wait

I think they wrote her character poorly and although I will miss seeing the actress I won’t miss the part. I watch days for the laugh factor which has been sadly underused the last few years and hope to see more laughs with the new writing team.

And a 35+ year viewer is gone because CC is out!

and two that I know of who started with the show and have stuck with it will continue to do so.

Good luck with that..you have MAYBE two years left of it.

As a Dool viewer because of Crystal Chappell, the news of her contract not being renewed saddened me.I think Dool just put noose around neck and matter time it s.will.be cancel.Crystal is rocket to them having higher ratings. If she is not there,I am not a viewer.Crystal has huge fan base. She is wonderful person and bust her butt with DooL for fans

I’m sure The Sabatino clan will land on their feet, don’t they also do construction with homes? That being said Crystal and her fans are better off without Days really the show was torture to sit through on a daily basis just to catch a few minutes of her storyline. She’ll move onto better things.

Sucks that DOOL writers have an emmy award winning actress and dont know what to do with her! DUMB!!! On to bigger and better things! Good luck CC!

Thank the soap God’s! Woo hoo can’t stand Carly and am glad she’s gone.

I love Crystal Chappell!!!!! I only watched the show because she returned. Once Carly departs so will I! Dool sucks cant believe they are
letting go of the best thing to happen to days! Dool will be canceled and they deserve it ! very disgruntled fan!!

Dool will be cancelled, and that makes me happy! Just goes to show you how low class other fans are you were afraid of her chemistry with Bo that is why you bring so much negativity! Bope didn’t hold a candle to Carbo & never will with or without Carly on the show!

Hold on here! I don’t know about other fans but my not liking Carly’s character has nothing to do with her and Bo for me. It had to do with the quality of the writing. They never really gave CC a chance to live up to her acting potential. And I don’t know about other readers of this forum, but I don’t think liking or not liking a character on a show has anything to do with being high or low class or having good or poor taste. I’m sure we all have different reasons for watching the show. I may not understand why people watch a show they consider bad just because one or two people or on it, but I do not project that anyone is low class because they do.

It’s low class when other fans have to come on here & gloat when Crystal’s fans are upset she was let go. Have respect!

I wasn’t gloating. I am saying that a show is more than the addition or deletion of one actress and saying as well that they could have done a better job with her part. I see a lot of near bashing of actors and people on this board and a lot of attitudes are off-kilter. I didn’t think Carly’s character was well-written, and thought that a better job could have been done is all.

You jumped in on a comment where I was talking about other posters making negative & gloating remarks, it had nothing to do with you when you posted. And I made myself clear that there are those coming on here being happy & gloating Crystal was let go after you made comment!

Not only is Crystal Chappell out but so is Louise Sorel. In an interview with TV Guide, she says that Deidre Hall & Drake Hogestyn are returning this summer and maybe beyond. I imagine there will be more casualities so DOOL can afford to bring back major stars to save the soap.

Crystal Chappell will land on her feet just fine. She’s an awesome actress. Maybe, Y&R?

Stupid move!!!!! Ms. Chappell is extremely talented, but she was being wasted on Days. She will find success elsewhere.

I have to laugh at the 3 commenters that are happy about Crystal’s departure…I’m pretty sure they will be the only 3 people left watching the show once all CC’s fan depart! 😉

In all honesty, I LOVE Crystal, but I stopped watching DOOL during the whole night-time Hope crapfest…the poor writing and directing ruined that show and Crystal will do well to get as far away from that sinking ship as possible!

If you want to see a quality soap done right- watch Venice! And I’m sure The Grove will deliver as well!

Very well said Kimi!!!

CC is an excellent actress, no need for her to be in a mediocre show. Time to move on…..

I agree with Jaime well said! No need for negativity, Crystal is well in getting away from that sinking ship!

Not true. I can think of 5 people who care neither way about CC who will continue to watch. Probably more. We were here before her and although we will miss the actress, won’t quit watching because she is gone. We didn’t quit when other major players left and we won’t quit now. We’ll wait, knowing that soaps are cyclical and the best/worst always return.

Oh, the 5 people are all people whom I know personally. CC’s addition to the cast didn’t change their viewing habits. Her deletion from the cast won’t change their viewing habits. None of us are watching the show because some actress or actor is on the show. We’re all busy people. For us, DOOL is a time to relax, laugh, take a break from our normal day to day lives. . .

I agree with you Lyn! cc isn’t the best thing ever to hit DOOL. I watched long before her and I will continue to watch after her.

Crystal Chappell is the best actress ever to be on Days, and her absence will make a difference! Days low ratings will continue to fall!

WTF, I only watched the show because she returned. CC is the best.

Matthew Ashford and Melissa Reeves Talk Return to DAYS for Doug’s Funeral, Susan Seaforth Hayes, and Their Enduring Friendship

Last week, Days of our Lives celebrated the taping of their 15,000th episode which is tentatively scheduled to air on December 3rd. The story will feature emotional and heart-tugging scenes of Doug Williams funeral and honor his portrayer, the beloved Bill Hayes, who passed away on January 12th at the age of 98.

While the actors, producers, and crew took a lunch time break to pose for some pictures and speak with the press, they knew they would have to get back to taping the funeral, which was going to make it a tough day, but also cathartic for all who loved Bill Hayes.

Several returns have thus far been announced including; Melissa Reeves reprising her signature role of Jennifer Horton (a part she first played in 1985), and Matthew Ashford as Jack Deveraux. Reeves had last appeared on the show back in 2021, and she was replaced by Emmy-winner Cady McClain in her absence when Jennifer was in storylines. In real-life, Melissa had moved full-time to Tennessee along with her husband, Scott Reeves (ex-DAYS, GH, Y&R). Now, and as previously reported, Reeves will first appear back on DAYS for the Thanksgiving episodes with the Hortons.

Michael Fairman TV caught up with Matt and Melissa during the 15,000th episode celebration to get their take on: being back for these special episodes, how it has been working with and watching Susan Seaforth Hayes portray Julie’s grief over losing Doug, and how they have supported each other through the years. Check out what they shared below.

Melissa, you are back on the set of Days of our Lives for this very emotional and special moment in the series history. How does it feel?

MELISSA: Oh, my goodness. I am honored. I wouldn’t want to be anywhere else but to be here for Bill. He was like my real-life dance partner. He taught me how to ballroom dance. And to be here for Susan, of course, who’s just been our sweet hero this whole week. We’re just following her lead. She’s just been this incredibly strong example for us in the midst of this trial and season of her life. She is like just lifting us all up with her. It’s been incredible.

I was at Bill Hayes memorial service which was truly incredible and I know at the time you were in Tennessee. It was moving and celebratory of his life, all at the same time.

MELISSA: That’s all I have heard. I have to watch it on You Tube. They said it was just a real celebration of his life and I love that.

This must be difficult for Susan Seaforth Hayes depicting the death of Doug, when she is still grieving the loss of her beloved husband. (Susan pictured above with the returning Stephen Schnetzer who plays her on-screen brother, Steve Olson).

MELISSA: I’m sure Susan has those moments at home by herself, but she’s so good at being a leader and leading all of us. We’re following her, you know, and she’s like, “This is how I want to feel today.” And we’re just going along with her, you know? It’s so sweet.

Photo: JPI

How is it to see Matt Ashford again live and in-person?

MELISSA: You know, Matt and I can go years without talking, or seeing each other, and then the minute we see each other we’re chatting away.

MATT: Melissa was out on set doing a scene yesterday on the phone talking to a stage manager; as she was telling some really tough news on the phone. I’m like crying in the background, literally, I’m off-stage crying.

MELISSA: And then we get like back into normal life, and we’re like, okay, “What’s happening? What’s happening with this … or what’s happening with that?”

I had read, Melissa, that you were in touch with Matt about if there night be a possibility for you to reprise your role as Jennifer for these special episodes?

MELISSA: Yes. Well, Matt was like, “Hey! Would you want to come back? “And I was like, “Matt, you know, I would always come back. ”

MATT:  Every time I come here to Days of our Lives, they ask, “Where’s Missy? How’s Missy?” Everybody backstage says, “I miss her.” All of the crew is asking about her and saying, “It would be nice to see Missy. Nothing wrong with you Matt, but …”  They said, “Where is she?” I said, “She wants to come!”

Photo: JPI

There are some beautiful photos of Missy and Bill and Susan thorough the years that I found. It just reminded me of just the deep and entrenched history we all have had with the show, personally and professionally.

MATT: Missy is roughly the age where Francis Reid (ex-Alice Horton) was when she started the show, which is just crazy.

Photo: JPI

I’ve always said Missy was going to be the next generation Alice. Do you feel that Jennifer is the heir apparent matriarch of the Horton family?

MELISSA: Yes. I mean, this has been greatest blessing of my life, and that would be great. I told Ken Corday (executive producer, Days of our Lives) when I was 17 that this show would be my life. Ken always told me, “This is your home,” and I’ve always felt like that.

How have gotten through the scenes watching Susan Seaforth Hayes as Julie go through the loss of Doug?

MATT: Susan is bringing her best performance life for her and Bill. I mean, she’s a showbiz baby. She always has been one hundred percent, and she’s doing it for him, and this is who they’ve always been. So, you’re seeing this amazing performance colored by her life. She has her private life as Susan, but she has enough plugged into Julie that she’s done amazing work. The director, producers and writers are giving her room to live in these moments and it’s quite wonderful.

Photo: JPI

Have you already broken down in tears during the taping?

MELISSA: Yesterday, but today’s taping of the actual funeral I think they want us to try and be just more celebratory.

MATT: I mean, it is a beautiful long life for Bill Hayes and his character of Doug Williams, and so it will be about that. Then, you get a bunch of us together in the church pews, and there’s going to be hijinks.

MELISSA: We all have been through the waves of grief. You have that awful cry and then all of a sudden you feel okay.  There are those family situations we are portraying where you’re like, “What do we do? What do we do now? You know, no one knows what to do. But, it’s so sweet. I’m looking forward to seeing how the scenes all turn out.

So, are you glad that Matt and Melissa are back for the 15K episode and Doug’s funeral? From what we can tell, it’s going to be quite an emotional journey for Days of our Lives fans, and especially the performance of Susan Seaforth Hayes,

Ron Carlivati Talks on Decision to Make Days of our Lives 15000th Episode About Doug’s Funeral, and Previews Chances for WGA Award

This week, Days of our Lives celebrated the taping of their 15,000th episode. In of it itself, that is an incredible accomplishment for the long-running soap opera currently streaming on Peacock.

However, this on set gathering was a bit different. Though the show is celebrating their achievement, they are also in the middle of taping scenes surrounding the death and the funeral of Doug Williams, played by the late Bill Hayes, who passed away on January 12th of this year at the age of 98.

As previously revealed many longtime favorites are back to honor Bill and the character of Doug including: Gloria Loring (Liz), Melissa Reeves (Jennifer), Matthew Ashford (Jack), Maree Cheatham (Marie), Victoria Konefal (Ciara) and Stephen Schnetzer (Steve) to name but a few.

Michael Fairman TV was in attendance and spoke with Days of our Lives head writer, Ron Carlivati to gain some insight into how the 15,000 episode was crafted and the decision to honor the character of Doug Williams and Bill Hayes as its epicenter. In addition, Ron weighed-in on this Sunday’s April 14th WGA (Writers Guild of America) Awards, where he and his writing team are facing off with General Hospital for the daytime drama prize. Here’s what Ron shared below.

Was this your idea to make the 15,000th episode centered around Doug’s funeral and passing?

RON: It was. When you’re looking at it, and laying out the calendar for the whole year and you see 15,000 is coming up, we’re like, “What are we going to do?” And then, we got the news that Bill had passed away and something kind of clicked. I was like, “We should honor Doug on that show.” So then, we started to kind of build around that … when does he pass away? How does he pass away? Who could come back? You know, it’s a lot.  I’m very pleased with the returns that we got as there’s so much that you could do. We wanted everybody we could get. So, we put together a wish list and Janet Drucker (co-executive producer, Days of our Lives) made it happen.

Photo: JPI

You have Melissa Reeves back as Jennifer, when the role was last played by Cady McClain. What has it meant to have Missy back for these shows?

RON: It was so nice to see Missy Reeves. I think Cady has done such a good job, but on the 15,000th episode to see Missy as Jennifer, it’s a big deal. So having her was great, and overall, the milestone was a big undertaking, because you want to live up to it. You want the 15,000th episode to be good. Now, it has a lot of real emotion that you’re playing. because for the cast and the crew they’re honoring Bill Hayes just as much as we’re honoring Doug Williams.

Photo: JPI

Was it hard for you and the team to write this episode?

RON: Yes. I’ll tell you why it was hard to write.  When I wrote, for example, Asa’s (Phillip Carey) death on One Life to Live or Victor’s (John Aniston) on DAYS, Asa is a different type of character. Like, you could have characters going, “Oh! I’m glad he is dead.” You could have different points of view, but with Doug, you’re not having that. Every person loves this man. No one had a bad relationship with him. So, you’re challenge as a writer is how do you make it that not everybody’s saying the same thing and doing the same thing. And so, we tried to find ways to make the episode about all the familial relationships and yet, how do you make it about Doug and yet broaden the scope.

Photo: JPI

I had spoken to Susan Seaforth Hayes (Julie), a week after Bill’s memorial, for an interview. She said that she felt very fortunate that you did include her on discussions of how you would tackle Doug’s passing. How did that conversation go?

RON: First, I attended Bill’s funeral, which was incredible. I said to so many people it was an emotional service, but it was hard to be sad at this. The guy had an incredible life and it was an incredible celebration. And so, you’re sitting there watching this knowing that you now have to write something similar. And how do you write something that lives up to what you just witnessed? I wanted to talk to Susan to get her thoughts about, you know, how much do you want this to be about keeping Bill separate from Doug. How comfortable are you sharing your grief. She was incredible to talk to. It was a great chat.

You’re in the middle of taping these major scenes for the 15,000 episode to air in December. How do you think it’s going? Have you seen any of the scenes?

RON:  I haven’t seeing anything. I mean, we were still making changes to the script up till this morning!

Photo: JPI

The Writers Guild Awards are this Sunday, April 14th and once again this year there are two daytime drama nominees, General Hospital and Days of our Lives. How are you feeling about your chances this year?

RON: It is often just GH and us in the category. I’ve won three years in a row, so I’m kind of feeling like it’s their turn.

Photo: JPI

What episodes did you submit for contention? If I recall, they had to do with Victor’s memorial.

RON: The episodes we submitted were centered around Victor’s funeral. I think one has story with Vivian (Louise Sorel). We had some fun stuff, we had some emotional stuff at Victor’s death, and I am pretty sure that our submission was three episodes right around that time.

Did you make the decision to go with those episodes because there was a mix of humor and drama?

RON: I like to have some humor, but it was also the funeral, then there’s Sarah (Linsey Godfrey) giving birth, and then Vivian’s crashing the reading of the will. So, we had a lot of fun and it’s hard sometimes to pick three that tell a story, as opposed to submitting for the Daytime Emmys, where the writing team only submits two shows. So, we shall see how it goes on Sunday.
