DAYS Alison Sweeney Previews Sami's Reaction To Finding Out Will Is Gay!

It’s Will Horton’s “official” coming out week on Days of our Lives! And to get celebrate, Outfest sponsored a terrific event late last week in Los Angeles called Days of our Lives: A Coming Out Celebration featuring red carpet arrivals, a screening for those in attendance of Will’s story thus far, and a panel discussion featuring members of the cast involved in the storyline including: Chandler Massey (Will), Alison Sweeney (Sami), Wally Kurth (Justin) Bryan Dattilo (Lucas), Deidre Hall (Marlena) and co-executive producer Greg Meng.

Throughout the week, On-Air On-Soaps will be bringing you our one-on-one interviews, and some sneak peeks and highlights, and emotional moments, from the panel discussion, as we celebrate the importance of another core character coming out on a daytime soap.

On today’s episode, Will finally comes out to Marlena, but what will happen when he tells his  mom? Alison Sweeney’s Sami has yet to find out on-screen that Will is gay, but when she does, as Alison previewed, it is your “typical”  Sami reaction.  With the permission of NBC executive, Bruce Evans, during the Outfest panel discussion, she elaborated on what viewers can expect when Sami is forced to deal with this game-changer in her son’s life!  SPOILER ALERT: If you do not want to know what happens, we advise you not to read on.  If you do want to read on,  check it out after the jump!

ALISON:  Sami does not say anything, and she runs away.  What I love about Sami is that she loves her son so much, but she always seems to say the wrong thing.  She always puts her foot in her mouth, and if it’s possible to mess up a situation, Sami knows how to make that happen.  I think this is one of those times.  She knows how important it is, and it is so fun for me, because I love working with Chandler so much and we have such a fun dynamic.   It was such an open and vulnerable moment when Will tells Sami, and Sami goes, “I got to go,” and fled the scene.  I think she goes through those Sami things, that are probably very common, in other ways too.  But for Sami it’s very normal.  She thinks it all because of her, and what did she do?  Chandler described all of Sami’s flaws when he described how his character is affected by her past,  and she is not wrong to wonder how she played a role in this.   She has to work through all those feelings and talk to all the people in Salem about it.  She ultimately makes it about her.  I think in her heart and because she has Lucas, (who is her hero)  she will come crawling back to him about how can she make this right with Will.  And of course, that is a whole other beat of the story. There is a fun Sami and Kate scene, too where they are at odds about work, once again, but it’s so great.  There is this awesome moment where Kate looks at Sami and says, “Now, seriously.  Forget about that.  We are going to talk about making things OK for Will.”  And the two of them set aside their cat claws and take care of Will and have that conversation in a very similar Kate and Sami way.  They connected on that, and then at the very end, it’s like, “I am still going to torment you.” So, it was like, “Game on!” Lauren Koslow (Kate) and I love that opportunity to play that.

So what do you think about how Sami will react?  Are you excited to see the scenes play out?  Let us know!

It’s kind of hard to be excited about anything on Days, after today’s news. Strange, isn’t it, how the news of the writers responsible for the tremendous Will story firing is outed on the same day Will outs himself. It’s a sad day for Days, and not because of any story line.

I only started to watch Days again after ABC cancelled All My Children. Gotta say, the stories have been 1000% better than what they were 15 years ago. I still miss AMC however, Will’s coming out story and the performances from Chandler Massey and Diedre Hall have been outstanding. I wish my parent’s would have been that supportative and I must tip my hat to the writers and the actors on Days for doing such a great job with this issue. Reminds me of when Bianca came out on All My Children, sorry, still missing my ABC soaps!

I think at this time the only story line well written on Days is the Will/Gay story line, so I am looking forward to it continuing. If the quality of writing of other story lines will be as good and as important as the gay story line, the show may have a chance of improving and continuing no matter who the writers are.

I can’t wait for the Sami and Will scenes, and the Kate and Sami scenes!

Well what i have to say : Alison Sweeney is a very brave woman and actress, i admire her.
She always supports this show even when they made Sami the very unsympathetic one..i am sad about that but i admire Sweeney..
Sami being self-centered i get it but to have her so much in denial and all about her in this rare moment is NOT IN CHARACTER, Sami i repeat suffered of self-loathing for a long long time (and still does imo) therefore her self-destructive personality, her eat disorder, her obsession with a ‘perfect family’ with a ‘perfect guy’ like Austin (and now Rafe) and her need of a hero (again she speaks about it in this interview this time with Lucas which is a MAJOR error because Lucas as fun as he can sometimes be was NEVER heroic, never which what made him a more interesting character by the way..) so she should have been the first one to empathize with Will situation and pov..he even lashed out to her recently like she did in the past with her mother..she should understand him more than ANYONE !! So to have her being the one in conflict will give drama to this story..but it was not the character to do it this time, it should have been a major way to bond mother and son in their outsiders, lack of self-esteem position..i am seriously disapointed by this writing direction i have to tell..and make Lucas a sort of hero to Sami is also stupid as hell..this guy was never a hero and finally Sami should be flawed but grown also where the needy, i need a man, i need to be lectured and humiliated for my flaws should be dropped once and for all, she needs to own up what she is flaws and all and be independent. Ej, love him hate him is maybe the only one who let her be her, she stands up to him, doesn’t search his approval, is not needy and desperate around him..
Alison Sweeney is a great supporter of her soap, i have to give her that and will not complain about this ‘scapegoat’ and often weak writing for her character (let Sami Brady be a proud and strong woman dool writers !) but i can !
p.s: i am not sure i will watch this outcome, i am upset about it and not curious, doesn’t make me to watch Days..

It’s LUMILYTIME and I am loving it,,,

weakkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkk

The writers are handling this Will storyline superb. Its a parents reaction to either scream, rant and rave or say its their fault or take the easy way out and walk away til it hits them. Then they will discuss it all over town before confronting their child.

I am new to Days and looking forward to compelling performances surrounding a difficult topic for many parents.

This storyline with Will is great. EJAMI is coming and I am loving it. James Scott and Alsion Sweeney are electric and combust on screen. They are my favourite soap couple of ALL time after Jack/Jenn of course lol. I cant wait to see EJAMI finally get their chance and this is what we have been asking for. EJOLE are soooooooo boring I have not tuned into DAYS for ov er 8 months now and if EJAMI are not together I dont plan on it. Korday and Co should take pointers from Frank Valentini and Ron Carlivati at GH who really know what the fans love.

R u kidding me? EJole has more chemistry than EJami ever will, not to mention how Sami was raped by EJ (u r sick if u think that it was not rape), and still he was responsible for her rape by Rafe2. Lumi and Safe pawn EJami anyday. This storyline is great I love Sonny and Will, and WilSon/Silly.

I love Ejami…there is no other couple that has the natural chemistry that they have. They sizzle together, are fun to watch , flirtatious with each other and are so good together. When they are in a room together, their eyes can speak in volumes and no one else is in the room except them. Ejami will always have the chemistry…

OH, I am so looking forward to the EJami scenes today! This will be one of those days where I’m running home from work and grabbing the DVR remote!! Alison Sweeney and James Scott do such an AMAZING job as EJami and their chemistry is off the charts! I’ve been an EJami fan ever since they first “looked” at each other and we all know that “look”! Their eyes say it all…….they have always loved each other, no matter how much they try to deny it and they need to admit it and give the fans what we’ve been waiting forever for…….an EJAMI REUNION!!! It’s getting HOT IN HERE!!! ♥

I look forward to the scenes between Kate and Sami. Lauren Koslow and Alison Sweeney have tons of chemistry, whether they are hating or helping each other! As for E.J. and Sami…vroooom. Can´t wait. JS and AS are simply AMAZING together and will rock their scenes as always! EJami all the way…the best chemistry on Daytime!

Since Friday night Michael I have been literally waiting for this week’s scenes on Days of Our Lives! I don’t think I can even remember when I felt like this, ok yes that’s when the DOD promo was released! I am really sad to hear the writers have been let go, and especially after knowing how much work they have put in to bring back the EJ and Sami we know and love. This promo, just highlights Classic Ejami, full of humour, chemistry chemistry and the banter is simply effortless I don’t know how they do it really I don’t but I just hope Dool continues because I am falling completely in love with Ejami and Dool all over again! The Will and Sonny brewing relationship is my second fave story on the show right now, it is like a modern forbidden love story just like Ejami but well for obvious reasons has it’s differences!! LOL Umm but Chandler is such a wonderful addition to a very talented cast and I really hope the new writers continue with this heart felt story that truly reaches a whole other demographic audience. Ejami and Wilson are my rooting couples and stories, I hope dool, nbc continue with both because they just might save our beloved soap with all the buzz they are getting from all parts of the cyber soap world is good for the show!!

I have really enjoyed the Will coming out story but for me Ejami is the reason I have stayed with this show thru thick and thin. I hope they will finally have then in a serious romance . I am not a fan of Ejole or Lumi again. Holding my breath with the return fo CW and GT but Dool cannot afford to screw up yet again. Ejami or nothing for me as a fan..I’ve suffered thru everything else that obviously hasn’t brought in the ratings. Give Ejami a chance to shine the way no one else comes close to doing

Yes! Ejami scenes! Anytime EJ and Sami share screen time I’m watching. They are so amazing together. Alison Sweeney and James Scott have the best chemistry! It’s time for Days to put these two together and watch the ratings climb. Team Ejami!

Love the Wil storyline. I think it is being written very responsibly. And I must comment on the video of the day. God! I hope Sami and EJ do get together. I can’t take anymore teasing!

I’ve been really impressed by how the Will story has been handled on Days. It’s well-written and playing out in such an interesting way. Chandler is doing great work. I’m look forward to seeing Sami react to the news.

As far as EJami goes, well, this could be merely a tease or closure — I’d prefer them actually getting a chance to be a couple before the show leaves the airwaves, not saying that will happen but in this age of soaps going bye bye, you never know. I’m enjoying Ali and James in scenes together again (it’s been such a long time) and EJami’s flirtation and banter — oh, how I’ve missed that so much! They’re beautiful to me.

Days is in transition. The new head writing crew coming on board aren’t fans of EJami as they proved beyond a shadow of a doubt during their last stint. So I’m going to enjoy what’s going on now and forget about the rest for now. No point in worrying it. Whatever happens, happens.

The Ejami chemistry will never wain. When is TBTB going to realize that Ejami is their golden ticket to higher ratings. For the life of me, I can’t understand tptb not having EJ and Sami together permanently. The storylines would be endless. Safe and Ejoke is both boring as heck and have sent the ratings down the toilet. Any moron should be able to see that. Just look at the spike in ratings during the Nov 18th and 21st shows compared to the much lower ratings when EJ and Sami are not sharing scenes.

Hopefully, we will finally get some Ejami payoff and have a decent couple to watch. TPTB keep spouting they are going to give us romance, well, deliver Ejami. No other couple on days is watchable.

I’ve been enjoying Will’s storyline. I’m glad that Days went there and explored the issue of Will’s sexuality. Chandler Massey has been doing an outstanding job portraying the complexities of a young man coming to grips with the discovery that he is gay.

On another note, Ejami, for me, is a diamond in the rough on Days. When EJ and Sami are in scenes together they shine and make their other potential pairings look like poor, lacklustre imitations. It has been lovely and positively spine-tingling to see EJ and Sami in scenes together again, showing us that they’ve still got that natural chemistry, rapport, and passion that has so distinguished amongst the mediocre pairings that litter Days landscape. They were separated for far too long and I am hoping that this is a sign of better things to come for Ejami – it would be wonderful to finally see their love story and romance unfold onscreen as it should have well before now.

Loved the EJami promo. EJami are so coming! They are both in denail. I can’t wait to see their storyline continue. They are rebulding EJami. It feels just like old times. And it’s classic EJami. Love it. And can’t wait for Sami/Will scenes. I love Will’s s/l.

Oh, Days— BRING the world what they CRAVE—EJAMI!!! Save your show and consistantly write for this incomparable couple!!!!

I’m looking forward to seeing those hot EJami scenes on the big screen! I’m also enjoying the Will & Sonny storyline, I think the two actors are wonderful together. I must admit I’m fearful how it’s going to be written now that Marlene and Darrell are out the door.

I’ve got my popcorn popped and I am waiting to watch these coveted EJAMI scenes! I hope I am watching the beginnings of a true EJAMI love story!

I have been waiting all week since I saw the promo for the EJami scenes! They are for me the epitome of everything I have waited and looked for in a Soap Couple. I love their natural chemistry and “their larger then life” on-screen presence; they are truly a force to be reckoned with. The promo alone had me feeling like a child at Christmas waiting to open my presents; that is how exciting EJami is to me! I love them, I hope DAYS know how many people and fans want this amazing couple together. I cannot wait for MORE EJami scenes, please DAYS!

Just absolutely love EJAMI! Have been waiting for their story to be told since 2006. They sizzle on screen together. Let’s put EJOLE,LUMI and SAFE away for good. Boring couples who do not have the hot chemsitry of EJAMI.

I loved the promo and to tell you the truth I’m on the fence about this being a real reunion or if they are teasing us again. On one hand I absolutely love love that they are flirting and fun with each other again. It’s like old times when you just saw the chemistry in every little thing they did. The IT factor is still there between them. I’m also afraid of the other shoe to drop, so to speak. I just don’t think I can take them falling apart again and these writers IMO like to play fan bases. If Ej and Sami stay friends it’s more then I can hope for, but what Alison and James could do with a real falling head over heals in love storyline would be more then phenomenal! My heart longs to see it happen , but has been shattered more times then I can count. After six long years of waiting and hoping to see it on screen it could be the biggest pay off that the new writers could give us Ejami’s. Heres To Hoping It Finally Does!!

I am really hoping that EJami get their shot at a true love story, the chemistry is amazing, they have depth & history and are unique. They are in a league of their own with their natural charisma and magnetism. They draw you and don’t let you go, no matter what I have never given up on this couple and never stopped wanting to see them given a chance to be together. This EJami fan is tired of being led on to be let down & am really hoping this is finally their time to shine.

I’m so happy to see that Days has finally decided to cash in on the goldmine that is James Scott and Alison Sweeney. It’s about time they started to display their off the charts chemistry. The promo showed just that. I can’t wait to see more of them together.

Finally! Ejami sexy fun flirting. Love it!!

Between EJ and Sami, EJ vs. Lucas, EJ and Will and Will and his possible romance with Sonny, has been keeping me coming back for more.

I think that they’re teasing us, but eventually EJ and Sami will reunite but this time for real without any secrets hanging over their heads.

At least I hope so. If I feel like I’m gonna get burned AGAIN, well, I just don’t think my little old EJami loving heart can take another stab.

The Will coming out storyline and the possibility that EJ & Sami could get truly written for as a romance this time is what keeps me watching Days.

GOLDMINE, NBC should have paved the way for EJ & Sami eons ago, I’ve waited a long time for them to be the couple they were meant to be from the beginning.

I am enjoying the Will storyline. I really enjoy him working for EJ too. I am sooooo excited to finally see EJ and Sami getting along again. MarDar were bringing the characters of EJ and Sami back to us…slowly but surely. Watching their friendship rekindle is all kinds of amazing. I have been waiting for a true love story to be told between these two for years! Watching the amazing chemistry between Ali and James has been missed. I can only hope this is just the beginning and there is much more to come. Hopefully the new writers embrace EJami and all their story has to offer. There are so many intricate layers to deal with…..the stories are endless. Just visit an EJami fansite….the fan fictions stories are endless…and prove these fictional characters are so complex and perfect together that Days cannot deny it.

Put EJ and Sami together and I will watch this show forever. They are interesting, unique, fun, entertaining, cute, and HOT! I will never understand why it has taken so long to write a love story for these two. I could see them having a lot of fun adventures together, and it would never be dull! They are my all-time favorite soap opera couple!!!

I’m loving DAYS right now – can’t get enough of Ejami!! So hope TPTB get it right this time and showcase the powerhouse couple they are capable of being with their off the charts chemistry and their hot yet sweet flirty bantering. LOVE it 🙂

This week, DAYS head scribe, Ron Carlivati, confirmed that, and told Michael Fairman TV on the decision of the scripts the team submitted: “I like to have some humor, but it was also the funeral, and then there was Sarah (Linsey Godfrey) giving birth, and then Vivian’s (Louise Sorel) crashing the reading of the will.”

Matthew Ashford and Melissa Reeves Talk Return to DAYS for Doug’s Funeral, Susan Seaforth Hayes, and Their Enduring Friendship

Last week, Days of our Lives celebrated the taping of their 15,000th episode which is tentatively scheduled to air on December 3rd. The story will feature emotional and heart-tugging scenes of Doug Williams funeral and honor his portrayer, the beloved Bill Hayes, who passed away on January 12th at the age of 98.

While the actors, producers, and crew took a lunch time break to pose for some pictures and speak with the press, they knew they would have to get back to taping the funeral, which was going to make it a tough day, but also cathartic for all who loved Bill Hayes.

Several returns have thus far been announced including; Melissa Reeves reprising her signature role of Jennifer Horton (a part she first played in 1985), and Matthew Ashford as Jack Deveraux. Reeves had last appeared on the show back in 2021, and she was replaced by Emmy-winner Cady McClain in her absence when Jennifer was in storylines. In real-life, Melissa had moved full-time to Tennessee along with her husband, Scott Reeves (ex-DAYS, GH, Y&R). Now, and as previously reported, Reeves will first appear back on DAYS for the Thanksgiving episodes with the Hortons.

Photo: JPI

Michael Fairman TV caught up with Matt and Melissa during the 15,000th episode celebration to get their take on: being back for these special episodes, how it has been working with and watching Susan Seaforth Hayes portray Julie’s grief over losing Doug, and how they have supported each other through the years. Check out what they shared below.

Melissa, you are back on the set of Days of our Lives for this very emotional and special moment in the series history. How does it feel?

MELISSA: Oh, my goodness. I am honored. I wouldn’t want to be anywhere else but to be here for Bill. He was like my real-life dance partner. He taught me how to ballroom dance. And to be here for Susan, of course, who’s just been our sweet hero this whole week. We’re just following her lead. She’s just been this incredibly strong example for us in the midst of this trial and season of her life. She is like just lifting us all up with her. It’s been incredible.

I was at Bill Hayes memorial service which was truly incredible and I know at the time you were in Tennessee. It was moving and celebratory of his life, all at the same time.

MELISSA: That’s all I have heard. I have to watch it on You Tube. They said it was just a real celebration of his life and I love that.

Photo: JPI

This must be difficult for Susan Seaforth Hayes depicting the death of Doug, when she is still grieving the loss of her beloved husband. (Susan pictured above with the returning Stephen Schnetzer who plays her on-screen brother, Steve Olson).

MELISSA: I’m sure Susan has those moments at home by herself, but she’s so good at being a leader and leading all of us. We’re following her, you know, and she’s like, “This is how I want to feel today.” And we’re just going along with her, you know? It’s so sweet.

Photo: JPI

How is it to see Matt Ashford again live and in-person?

MELISSA: You know, Matt and I can go years without talking, or seeing each other, and then the minute we see each other we’re chatting away.

MATT: Melissa was out on set doing a scene yesterday on the phone talking to a stage manager; as she was telling some really tough news on the phone. I’m like crying in the background, literally, I’m off-stage crying.

MELISSA: And then we get like back into normal life, and we’re like, okay, “What’s happening? What’s happening with this … or what’s happening with that?”

I had read, Melissa, that you were in touch with Matt about if there night be a possibility for you to reprise your role as Jennifer for these special episodes?

MELISSA: Yes. Well, Matt was like, “Hey! Would you want to come back? “And I was like, “Matt, you know, I would always come back. ”

MATT:  Every time I come here to Days of our Lives, they ask, “Where’s Missy? How’s Missy?” Everybody backstage says, “I miss her.” All of the crew is asking about her and saying, “It would be nice to see Missy. Nothing wrong with you Matt, but …”  They said, “Where is she?” I said, “She wants to come!”

Photo: JPI

There are some beautiful photos of Missy and Bill and Susan thorough the years that I found. It just reminded me of just the deep and entrenched history we all have had with the show, personally and professionally.

MATT: Missy is roughly the age where Francis Reid (ex-Alice Horton) was when she started the show, which is just crazy.

Photo: JPI

I’ve always said Missy was going to be the next generation Alice. Do you feel that Jennifer is the heir apparent matriarch of the Horton family?

MELISSA: Yes. I mean, this has been greatest blessing of my life, and that would be great. I told Ken Corday (executive producer, Days of our Lives) when I was 17 that this show would be my life. Ken always told me, “This is your home,” and I’ve always felt like that.

How have gotten through the scenes watching Susan Seaforth Hayes as Julie go through the loss of Doug?

MATT: Susan is bringing her best performance life for her and Bill. I mean, she’s a showbiz baby. She always has been one hundred percent, and she’s doing it for him, and this is who they’ve always been. So, you’re seeing this amazing performance colored by her life. She has her private life as Susan, but she has enough plugged into Julie that she’s done amazing work. The director, producers and writers are giving her room to live in these moments and it’s quite wonderful.

Photo: JPI

Have you already broken down in tears during the taping?

MELISSA: Yesterday, but today’s taping of the actual funeral I think they want us to try and be just more celebratory.

MATT: I mean, it is a beautiful long life for Bill Hayes and his character of Doug Williams, and so it will be about that. Then, you get a bunch of us together in the church pews, and there’s going to be hijinks.

MELISSA: We all have been through the waves of grief. You have that awful cry and then all of a sudden you feel okay.  There are those family situations we are portraying where you’re like, “What do we do? What do we do now? You know, no one knows what to do. But, it’s so sweet. I’m looking forward to seeing how the scenes all turn out.

So, are you glad that Matt and Melissa are back for the 15K episode and Doug’s funeral? From what we can tell, it’s going to be quite an emotional journey for Days of our Lives fans, and especially the performance of Susan Seaforth Hayes,

Ron Carlivati Talks on Decision to Make Days of our Lives 15000th Episode About Doug’s Funeral, and Previews Chances for WGA Award

This week, Days of our Lives celebrated the taping of their 15,000th episode. In of it itself, that is an incredible accomplishment for the long-running soap opera currently streaming on Peacock.

However, this on set gathering was a bit different. Though the show is celebrating their achievement, they are also in the middle of taping scenes surrounding the death and the funeral of Doug Williams, played by the late Bill Hayes, who passed away on January 12th of this year at the age of 98.

As previously revealed many longtime favorites are back to honor Bill and the character of Doug including: Gloria Loring (Liz), Melissa Reeves (Jennifer), Matthew Ashford (Jack), Maree Cheatham (Marie), Victoria Konefal (Ciara) and Stephen Schnetzer (Steve) to name but a few.

Photo: JPI

Michael Fairman TV was in attendance and spoke with Days of our Lives head writer, Ron Carlivati to gain some insight into how the 15,000 episode was crafted and the decision to honor the character of Doug Williams and Bill Hayes as its epicenter. In addition, Ron weighed-in on this Sunday’s April 14th WGA (Writers Guild of America) Awards, where he and his writing team are facing off with General Hospital for the daytime drama prize. Here’s what Ron shared below.

Was this your idea to make the 15,000th episode centered around Doug’s funeral and passing?

RON: It was. When you’re looking at it, and laying out the calendar for the whole year and you see 15,000 is coming up, we’re like, “What are we going to do?” And then, we got the news that Bill had passed away and something kind of clicked. I was like, “We should honor Doug on that show.” So then, we started to kind of build around that … when does he pass away? How does he pass away? Who could come back? You know, it’s a lot.  I’m very pleased with the returns that we got as there’s so much that you could do. We wanted everybody we could get. So, we put together a wish list and Janet Drucker (co-executive producer, Days of our Lives) made it happen.

Photo: JPI

You have Melissa Reeves back as Jennifer, when the role was last played by Cady McClain. What has it meant to have Missy back for these shows?

RON: It was so nice to see Missy Reeves. I think Cady has done such a good job, but on the 15,000th episode to see Missy as Jennifer, it’s a big deal. So having her was great, and overall, the milestone was a big undertaking, because you want to live up to it. You want the 15,000th episode to be good. Now, it has a lot of real emotion that you’re playing. because for the cast and the crew they’re honoring Bill Hayes just as much as we’re honoring Doug Williams.

Photo: JPI

Was it hard for you and the team to write this episode?

RON: Yes. I’ll tell you why it was hard to write.  When I wrote, for example, Asa’s (Phillip Carey) death on One Life to Live or Victor’s (John Aniston) on DAYS, Asa is a different type of character. Like, you could have characters going, “Oh! I’m glad he is dead.” You could have different points of view, but with Doug, you’re not having that. Every person loves this man. No one had a bad relationship with him. So, you’re challenge as a writer is how do you make it that not everybody’s saying the same thing and doing the same thing. And so, we tried to find ways to make the episode about all the familial relationships and yet, how do you make it about Doug and yet broaden the scope.

Photo: JPI

I had spoken to Susan Seaforth Hayes (Julie), a week after Bill’s memorial, for an interview. She said that she felt very fortunate that you did include her on discussions of how you would tackle Doug’s passing. How did that conversation go?

RON: First, I attended Bill’s funeral, which was incredible. I said to so many people it was an emotional service, but it was hard to be sad at this. The guy had an incredible life and it was an incredible celebration. And so, you’re sitting there watching this knowing that you now have to write something similar. And how do you write something that lives up to what you just witnessed? I wanted to talk to Susan to get her thoughts about, you know, how much do you want this to be about keeping Bill separate from Doug. How comfortable are you sharing your grief. She was incredible to talk to. It was a great chat.

You’re in the middle of taping these major scenes for the 15,000 episode to air in December. How do you think it’s going? Have you seen any of the scenes?

RON:  I haven’t seeing anything. I mean, we were still making changes to the script up till this morning!

The Writers Guild Awards are this Sunday, April 14th and once again this year there are two daytime drama nominees, General Hospital and Days of our Lives. How are you feeling about your chances this year?

RON: It is often just GH and us in the category. I’ve won three years in a row, so I’m kind of feeling like it’s their turn.

What episodes did you submit for contention? If I recall, they had to do with Victor’s memorial.

RON: The episodes we submitted were centered around Victor’s funeral. I think one has story with Vivian (Louise Sorel). We had some fun stuff, we had some emotional stuff at Victor’s death, and I am pretty sure that our submission was three episodes right around that time.

Did you make the decision to go with those episodes because there was a mix of humor and drama?

RON: I like to have some humor, but it was also the funeral, then there’s Sarah (Linsey Godfrey) giving birth, and then Vivian’s crashing the reading of the will. So, we had a lot of fun and it’s hard sometimes to pick three that tell a story, as opposed to submitting for the Daytime Emmys, where the writing team only submits two shows. So, we shall see how it goes on Sunday.
