DAYS Chandler Massey and GH's Kelly Sullivan named Power Performances of the Week!

Daytime fans have been fortunate to see two major talents really getting the opportunity to strut their stuff this week on Days of our Lives and General Hospital.   And, we predict that these two performers will have careers beyond the soaps, if and when that time should come.  But again to the naysayers, that tell us that soaps don’t have A+ caliber acting look no further than Days of our Lives, Chandler Massey (Will) and General Hospital’s Kelly Sullivan (Kate/Connie).

In a riveting, touching and heartbreaking performance on Tuesday and Wednesday’s Days of our Lives, Will blurts out to his parents, Sami and Lucas, that he is gay. What followed was some of the best writing in the telling of a coming out storyline that we can remember on daytime or nighttime television.  Chandler Massey’s raw, understated, and realistic portrayal had us reaching for the hankies!  Ably supported by Bryan Dattilo (Lucas) who did a great job as Will’s father trying to come to terms with the revelation while trying to hold the family together, and Alison Sweeney (Sami) as the mother in denial, who runs away from the whole situation.   Give credit to the writers, and give a huge credit to Chandler Massey.  It is hard to imagine anyone could play this part better than he has.  He has been given the ball and run all the way for a touchdown!

And in a startling, intense, heartbreaking tour de force, GH’s Kelly Sullivan is showing what she is made of playing the complex DID storyline and making it fresh, when many said it couldn’t be done!  With her magnificent scene partner, Maurice Benard (Sonny) playing the beats of a heartbroken lover who deep down loves Kate, he watches in shock and sadness as Kate talks to her alter Connie who is trying desperately to deduce what happened the night Anthony Zacchara’s tires were shot out, which in turn killed Cole and Hope.   Then, when Sonny meets Connie for the first time, Sullivan really pulled out all the stops!  We loved when Connie imitated Kate when she said, “Oh Sonny.  I have to see Sonny”   Then the line that followed (which we also loved) was Connie telling Sonny about Kate not being able to stay away from him,   “She’s an addict and you’re a big hunk of crack.”    It was drama at its best and Sullivan and Bernard made this work!

So with all that said, On-Air On-Soaps names Chandler Massey and Kelly Sullivan this week’s Power Performances of the Week.  Now after the jump, watch their power performances and let us know what you thought of the scenes and if you agree with our picks!

Chandler knocks it out of the park once again. Great that he was named Power Performer. He deserves it.

I thought KS performance was good and the lines were spot on I do not know how MB kept a straight face. Side note I think Connie said that she did it to try to keep Sonny away from Kate, I think Johnny had his goon shoot the tires. Good Choices Mr. Fairman!!!!!

Chandler rocks every performance so I’m glad he was recognized again for his incredible talent! So happy that Will finally came out to his parents. The Will/Sami/Lucas, Lucas/Will, and EJ/Sami scenes were all wonderful to watch!

Chandler is proving himself to be a great talent…He rocked his scenes this week. he is definitely A Power Performer. Good job & Kudos to Chandler!

Kelly Sullivan and Maurice Bernard really ACED those scenes. Kelly has been doing outstanding work, and Maurice has been the perfect person to play off!

Kelly Sullivan is a wonderful actress. She has taken this storyline and made it into something compelling. I think she has become my favorite actress on daytime right now — she’s not afraid to go for it and give it 100% even when her character is doing the most outrageous things. I adore her!!! Great choices for performers of the week!

Chandler is a good actor I have enjoyed Wills story from the start he has kept me very interested and want to see more with Sami. Kate/connie, Kelly Sullivan, What can I say she is brilliant and she deserves to be the power performer of the week, I say weeks because connie has been very busy trashing cakes hitting head shrinkers over the head, And now giving Sonny a piece of what connie really is (real). I wasn’t to happy about a d.i.d. story but I have been interested in kate/connie since the first time she went to johnnys apartment, couldn’t believe it was her at his door.she is very interesting and yes, I want to see more, Keep her talking at every mirror she can get in front of.

Two great choices Michael!

Connie said about Kate (6:03), “she is like one of those fancy show dogs–all hair and no brains.” That makes sense. Who in their right mind would continue to be involved with a mobster after being shot on her wedding day? Kate/Connie is a train wreak and Sullivan makes it great fun to watch.

Chandler Massey gave a powerhouse performance. I think he’s one of the best young actors of today. I have liked his portrayal of Will since he started playing the role. Chandler has grown into the part and made it his own. Kudos to Chandler. Job very well done. He deserves the Emmy.

Kelly Sullivan is wowing me. Great work! I didn’t get to see DAYS this week :(, but I hear it was good.

I don’t get the love for Kelly Sullivan, this has been done better by Erika Slezak and the very underrated Bree Williamson. Chandler Massey may be the best actor on soaps today, young or old.

I don’t disagree with you about Slezak and Williamson. I wish we could still see them on OLTL, but we can’t. Perhaps on some level I am enjoying Sullivan because it does remind me of the storyline and memories of OLTL, and I do like the lines about Kate being an addict and a fancy show dog.

Chandler Massey is killing it on Days! Will’s story is the best thing on the show, really the only interesting thing on lately. He is a force to be reckoned with. He has such a bright future ahead of him!

Massey is a brilliant actor! He really pulled off those scenes, as did Sweeney, Scott and Datillo. Now we can hopefully see more of WilSon on our screens!

As for Lucas, I am so glad he supported his son, despite how shocked he was. How did Sami not see this coming, when Lucas has been here for only around 2 months, but she has been here for so long? She was an idiot, running away. I mean, Lucas was shocked too, but he stayed and helped Will. I think Sami will be there for her son in the future, and I loved EJ during those episodes. He really explained everything so well to her.

This was a nice refreshing break from all that ISA-Stefano crap we have been getting!

kelly performances remind me of Judith Light as Karen Wolek on OLTL..she is really good…

Michael, I totally agree. These two have been rocking their heavy, soapy material. The characters and performers have really “grown” on me. I’ve always liked Will, but really disliked Kate until the last couple of months. Kudos to all involved! Keep up the great work!

I enjoyed Connie. She thinks like me,and hates Sonny. Loved her telling it like it is. The actress is doing a good job. Kate bores me to death. I didn’t watch any of the Sonny and Kate reunion.Tht’s what the ff button is for!
I didn’t watch the coming out of Will at days mostly because they dragged it out until they again ruined the rest of the show and I shut it off.

Chandler Massey are you kidding me? This guy is such a good actor, it is simply ridiculous! Every day that Chandler is on screen is a great day. Keep up the fantastic work.

This week, DAYS head scribe, Ron Carlivati, confirmed that, and told Michael Fairman TV on the decision of the scripts the team submitted: “I like to have some humor, but it was also the funeral, and then there was Sarah (Linsey Godfrey) giving birth, and then Vivian’s (Louise Sorel) crashing the reading of the will.”
