DAYS Deidre Hall On The Passing Of Jed Allan: “We’ve Lost One Of The Really Good Ones”

Over the last 24 hours, the soap world has been rocked by the passing of one of their favorites, Jed Allan.  On Saturday, Allan passed away at the age of 84.  So many of his co-stars and colleagues have posted their remembrances and their grief, which Michael Fairman TV had continue to add to the original post on Allan’s passing.

But on Sunday evening, none other than Allan’s most famous romantic scene partner, Days of our Lives Deidre Hall (Marlena) came forth and shared her touching thoughts on Allan’s passing via her Deidre Hall official Facebook page.

Deidre expressed: “We’ve lost one of the really good ones. It’s been decades since I stepped on to the NBC sound stage to screen test for Marlena on Days of our Lives. I was given a 4-page scene to memorize and perform with Days’ dashing bachelor, Don Craig, played confidently by Jed Allan. Jed made it all look easy with his dark good looks, deep resonant voice, a naughty twinkle, boisterous laugh and his characteristic swagger. He used his charismatic charm to win audiences as well as cast and crew. He never tired of my lack of experience and taught by example. He was deeply devoted to his sons and his darling wife Toby. When he lost her, we weren’t sure how he’d go on, but go on he did. Jed was a giant in so many ways, witnessed by the huge emptiness he leaves behind.”

Along with her sentiments, Hall posted a clip of her and Allan as Marlena and Don; when the couple was breaking-up on the series, which is posted below.

Following Hall’s remembrances on Jed Allan, several other DAYS cast members past and present also took to social media to express their thoughts and grief on the loss of Allan including James Reynolds (Abe) who noted: “Jed Allen was one of the first to welcome me to Days of our Lives.. I am grateful he took a young actor under his wing.”

Gloria Loring, who’s character of Liz Chandler was romantically involved with Allan’s Don Craig related: “I just heard that Jed Allan, the former Don Craig on Days, passed on. Rest In Peace, my old friend. I loved working with you and will remember you with a smile in my heart.”

So, what do you think of Deidre Hall’s remembrances and statement on the death of her beloved co-star from DAYS,? Share your thoughts in the comment section.

I love it she is such a beautiful woman with a huge heart for others. I truly loved Don and Marlena together they where my favorite couple.

They were my favorite too.

Mine too.They always will be

She is class all the way. Gracious, heart-felt tribute to a fellow cherished actor. Kudos!

Terrific clip above. What year was that? Certainly a prime example of a time when daytime drama was at it’s finest.

Sad

I will truly miss Jed Allen. He was the best CC Capwell on Santa Barbara.

I think you need to drop the g at the end of the name Don…its a little dirty sounding….Marlena and Roman were popular but Marlena and Don had a more realistic relationship-often feeling like a real couple at times…hated how they sent Don out to the mailbox and that was his ending…terrible!

LOVED Don and Marlena…The clip that Deidre shared is beautiful classic drama that I so miss and what DOOL was like at it’s finest unlike today for I cannot stand to watch DOOL now for it’s not the same…notice how beautiful the background music is in the scene and how it fit with what was happening? DOOL now has the worst background music and is very annoying…

Guys! For years I was hoping Jed Allen would come back to Days. His Don Craig was a great character and actually stood for something. Marlena and Don had so much chemistry together, and the loss of their infant son from SIDS has been called one of the most heart breaking moments in soap operas. I never cared for Roman Brady I, Roman Brady 2, or Roman Brady 3, but I will miss Jed Allen. His character, and his relationship with Marlena. They should have brought him back. I hope DOOL will write in Don Craigs passing, so maybe some of the fans who still remember him and Marlena might have some closure.
