DAYS OF OUR LIVES: A Shell-Shocked Paige Has One HELL Of A Birthday Party!

Courtesy/NBC

Courtesy/NBC

Finally, it is all out in the open!  Paige (True O’Brien) has learned that her mother and her boyfriend had been sleeping together behind her back in the most deceitful and shameful way to her.  The young woman’s world is crushed, which clearly sets the stage for a character turn by the once innocent Paige.  Will the DAYS brass now make the character a revenge-filled young woman? That is the question!

But on Thursday’s episode, Paige, who already reeling from listening in and hearing Eve and JJ confirm their illicit affair, and confronting her mother about it, heads over to see JJ! However, when she does she walks into a surprise birthday party for her at the Deveraux house.   Looking like she had seen a ghost, clearly upset and shaken, JJ expresses his love for the birthday girl.  When Abigail (Kate Mansi) presents Paige with a birthday cake she throws to the ground and next slaps JJ!  And then Paige begins to reveal she knows the truth out loud.  JJ slept with her mother … then she finds out Jennifer (Melissa Reeves) knew too, and that makes the whole thing worse.   JJ just looks stunned and guilty!   Meanwhile, at her apartment Eve (Kassie DePaiva) is drinking herself silly racked with guilt. and knowing she has sunk to new lows, even for her!

True O’Brien certainly stepped up to the plate when given this long-awaited emotional material to play and delivered, and we can’t wait to see what Paige does next.  As for Kassie DePaiva, well, no one does soap-opera on-screen self-loathing better than this daytime favorite. and as for Casey Moss, we can’t wait to see how JJ tries to explain his way out of this to Paige!

What did you think of how JJ’s affair with Eve was busted wide open at Paige’s birthday party?  What did you think of the performances of True O’Brien, Kassie DePaiva, and Casey Moss?  What do you hope Paige does next? Comment below!

By the sound of this, looks like this monthjs-long storyline indeed have a very satisfying pay-off. I’ll catch up on this over the weekend to see it for myself.

Finally see that the actress CAN act. Before this she was so blah I wanted her gone.

I’ve loved every second of the past few DAYS!

Who knew the girl could act?? As you stated they finally gave her something that shows why they hired her–before now she was exciting as vanilla ice cream. Her scene confronting JJ at the birthday party was the best thing I’ve seen on Days in months–other than Kristen falling out the window— and her performance was a big part of it.

Now that she is on the outs with Eve, I would love for them to bring her father into the mix– who is he? what effect would his presence have on Eve and Paige?

Maybe the show has been so dull for so long that any type of action gets me excited about what’s next, but it does seem Days is turning a corner, and hopefully is heading back up there again.

Thanking you and others for your thoughtfullness and prayers…was extremely ill and somewhat dizzy…had a cancer scare but things are looking good…am able to post on better days…more test ahead to make certain all is clear…thyroid out of wack and working on it…plus very dizzy at times…said i was taking a rest til june but coming here does take my mind off things…good news so far is a big boost…thanks again Mary!!!

Glad to hear there has been some improvement and you are feeling stronger. I had a health scare a couple years back and remember well how stressful the not knowing was, and how exhausting the health care system can be- going from one test to another, seeing a different doctor for every different symptom. Just do what you can, when you can– I always found soaps and these sites a nice distraction from the craziness of the real world, so if your energy level permits and if you think it helps you should definitely should keep coming here. But as much as we all enjoy your posts, if ever gets too much, take a break–keeping you in my prayers

I don’t usually read about DOOL. Followed up on Mary SF, and found your comment. It’s good to hear you’re feeling better. Have been missing your zany, imaginative thoughts on everything, especially GH which never disappoints when it comes to your brand of possibilities. Rest and get stronger.

To think ,Paige shared her first time experience with a man who slept with her mother,Smh. I honestly do not know how she can forgive him. I can see her forgiven Eve first because Eve is a truly damaged person, who has never made peace with her past and insecurities. I have a feeling things will get worse before they even start to get better.

That surprises me. I don’t see Paige ever forgiving Eve. Eve is her mother. The mother Paige has had to “parent” most of her young life. Paige has watched as Eve has gone through man after man and supported and made excuses for Eve’s behavior. And now this!!!!!!! Eve was supposed to be the adult in this situation and look at her disgusting betrayal and total disregard for her daughter’s feelings. I think Paige is done, as she should be. As you can see, I am not a “blood is thicker than water” person. JJ is not blameless. He was wrong too; but, he is dumb a kid. He was in way over his head in dealing with the likes of Eve.

I’d feel exactly the same way if if had been a 50 year old man and a 19 year old girl.

Hallelujah, Llanviewer!!!! You said it….most appropriately and succinctly. …applause!!!!

Really terrific scenes. True O’Brien did a great job showing the rage, hurt, betrayal and disgust Paige feels toward Eve and JJ. When she embraced Eve and said “I know what you did.”, I cheered. It’s about time she really knew her so called mother. I feel she held her own with a pro like Kassie. As always, Kassie DePaiva was wonderful. Everyone in Salem had better watch out. Eve is completely broken and has nothing left to lose. I think she’ll raise even more hell all over town. The look on JJ’s face broke my heart. He is a sweet but pitiful little fellow. He was in way over his head trying to deal the that man-eater Eve. Bravo to everyone for great work.

loved it!!!!
especially when a still shaking paige showed up at the horton home while everyone greeted her at the door cheering and she was a mess! True really showed finally some acting chops!
i think jj and paige are so sweet together , however i enjoy when jj goes dark! casey s awesome at being bad!

Wow!!! What a performance. Sweet, even-tempered Paige, finally showed the stuff of which she is made.
I believe that this is a very pivotal point in her life. The hurt she is experiencing may make her stronger, a good thing, yes. But, by the same token, this experience may deeply affect her….so much so as to paint a very dark picture of her world and the people in it……a very negative and bitter result! She may never trust anyone again. She is very young and impressionable. We have all had our hearts bruised. The very dramatic crux of this storyline is the fact that it was Paige’s mother who has inflicted the pain, coupled with JJ’s betrayal.
Justice….small word on its own. But, man, oh, man…..I am so glad, I am doing a happy dance.
Can’t stand JJ, his goody-two-shoes sister, and his sanctimonious mother.

Chad, do yourself a favor…RUN!!!!! You’re so hot, why get stuck with fish-lips and Elsie-the-cow-eyes?
Seriously, Billy Flynn is the best thing that has happened to DOOL for a long time. He is such a superlative actor…such presence. I love brooding actors….not forlorn idiots, such as Brady.
I just get lost in Chad’s eyes…sigh!

Its Paige’s birthday party and she learns her own mother has been blowing out JJs candle…lol…ps starting to feel somewhat better(dizziness keeps me bedridden most days)…keeping fingers crossed…missed several episodes of days and gh…trying to catch up!!!

It was a good episode, jimh.
I hope you feel 100% soon. We all miss you. ….speedy recovery. …love you !!

I have to say that this pay off was great. Casey Moss and Kassie DePaiva flew off into greater heights as this all exploded around them. True O’Brien did better than I expected. Her range is so limited. She is not great at this role at all but she did convey the hurt and betrayal better than expected. This made watching DAYS worth it. The rest of the show is in shambles. Please please please stop the boredom with the Serena story. Xander looks like a porn star waiting to be fluffed and giving Arianne Zucker so little to do is a crime. The Melanie fiasco is only helped knowing that she is leaving the show soon. But Brady and Theresa do not a couple make. I love Theresa as a character. She gives much needed comedic relief. The rest of the show is just boring. Nothing and I mean nothing is going on. While I have loved the Paul/Sonny/Will triangle, knowing that Sonny is leaving (Freddie Smith) makes it all pointless. The stupid Clyde storyline. The evil country bumpkin, please….Billy Clyde Tuggle did it better on All My Children way back in the day. If this show doesn’t pick up it’s pace and switch up the quality it is doomed for cancellation as soon as they blow out the candles on their 50th Anniversary.

nice write up, Mate : (truthful) can’t fault this

1. Casey Moss and Kassie DePaiva … have been “right” on… LOL… i love these two characters.. who drive, DAYS… despite the writing… I laud their performances

be that as it may….this cougar coupling, not anywher near as accepted, as Ava and Morgan on GH… still, it’s, two quality actors… with chemistry… wrangling and champagne blitzing… nevertheless… sizzling me

Kassie DePaiva… i never watched on OLTL… has never let up… her presence is on par and then some…. “thank you” Eve

I hope this is the turning point for much more of Kassie DePaiva steamrolling.. all denizen of Salem’ites… she is “A” force to be reckoned… and I’m on the sidelines… cheering

let’s see her tear through Salem… I couldn’t believe the magic … when she met Rafe… let’s see some magic with Justin… now that he’s back…

I’d love to see who Paige father is : and kick in to stratosphere.. ALL of Eve tempestuous nature… what triggers her emotions

I thank the soap gods.. that KP’ Eve is mainstaying her take in Salem

LOL : Xander : yes… that’s what it is… if all else is in shambles… he offered respite in the best towel… ever… look out Rafe

Freddie Smith : I’m enjoying what’s left… “of” Sonny and Paul…. “dang it” if DAYS production doesn’t know what’s been carrying Salem… and that’s Sonny / Paul / Will then I am with you and then some… Days may be dooming itself… and giving the audience a 50th cause celeb…. (tears) so hoping we are all invited to thee show of shows ( passed Sept, 2016)

Melanie has been dumbstruck since her return… she’s worse than Paige… on the cover of this weeks SOD issue…. Brady proposes to her !!!! ??? get a grip… these fired writers have let so much of us down… PLEASE take, her dullard father… with her exit… Melanie and Shawn are the dullest father/daughter, EVER

I really am holding out hope… that the new writing team… which… if estimated properly… will circumvent… in and around August, 2015… with the gala 50th premiere… set … shoot… and match… DAYS re-aligns itself… in the TOP 4 ! November, 2015

on contract… plus returns !!!!

HUGE !

Adrienne Kiriakis
Justin Kiriakis
Kayla Brady

Bo Brady
Stephen Patch Johnson
their (SORAS) son, Joey

Camila Banus ( Gabs)

MARQUEE : there is so much on the horizon… i’m waiting with baited breath

I have to prop: ( thank you, CeeCee) I LOVE the nuCHAD.. played by Billy Flynn, the one biggest BUST : do NOT pair him with Abs… Kate Mansi in my opinion… and YES… I place blame.. on thee exiting writers… but… Abs.. IS more, miss than hit… with her character

had it not been for JJ.. Casey Moss (riveting)… the Deveraux clan… who represent the Horton family… would be dead on arrival… and that includes thee uninteresting… Melissa Reeves

i’m done fretting and angst about Ari Zucker’ Nicole Walker. I totally place blame on the fired writing team… she’s dead… right now… I so hoped Xander was brought in to revive her… she’s been door matted , stuck, and locked bore… with Brady, Daniel, and Eric… that I am no longer interested. the writers had better pin her to … and resuscitate with Rafe… or someone other than…. course.. my plea.. that her mother, Fay… should be made alive.. to layer her character … PLEASE

fasten your seat belts … it’s going to be a bumpy ride

DAYS hourglass… is smoldering.. bubbling… alluring… must be

True was a revelation, frankly. It has become quite clear the last two days that she has been sorely misused.

DAYS does this slow-burn thing so well. Plot is tired and true soap but this time it really was engaging. Delicious. DAYS still follows an old-school groove I appreciate. Glad DAYS welcomed me after our time in Oakdale, Llanview, and Pine Valley came to an end. I ask, “Where have I been?” but so glad I found Salem.

The climax to this drawn-out story was well worth the wait. All the actors did a great job. True O’Brien was outstanding, soaring to new acting heights.

Call me a villain, if you will, but I actually enjoyed JJ with Eve and was always on the lookout for “the next time.” In part, I feel this way because, to me, the actors have more chemistry.

Nevertheless, Paige has every reason to be vengeful against her mother and boyfriend. Let the fireworks continue…

Anytime two people with a great many years between them (old enough to be a parent to the one he/she is ‘exploring’) indulge in carnal pleasure is disgusting. It is even more gross when he/she is doing it with one’s mother/father. Ewwww.
…disturbing…
Eve has no self-respect…that is the bottom line. I could have forgiven her if the BOY she was exchanging fluids with was not her daughter’s boyfriend…..but, C’mon.
I guess that’s what separates us, James…I mean men from women…LOL.

CeeCee, you make some excellent points. But I don’t want to be separated from you… I like your comments immensely. 🙂

Please forgive me my indulgence: my main point is that I feel that Casey Moss and Kassie DePaiva have much better chemistry than Moss does with True O’Brien. Maybe it’s, as some have stated, simply a matter of O’Brien’s limited acting range. Good for O’Brien that she was able to step it up with these scenes. And let’s see some more of this…

One other thing: I think Eve might be flawed, but I don’t think she’s a terrible villain. The writers at least gave some reasons as to why Eve and JJ fell into bed together. But I have to confess to being a huge Kassie DePaiva fan from her days on OLTL, so I have a natural inclination to root for her.

@ James.
No, no, no, James….I was trying to be cute….that’s your opinion. I was just using a facsimile of an adage as to ” what separates men from women”…..not specifically you and I.
I certainly appreciate your input. You are one of my favorite posters. There is nothing to forgive, James. Nothing, whatsoever. It is a universal fact that men think differently from women ( most of the time) on the subject of sex.
Furthermore, you are absolutely right. It does have to do with O’Brien’s acting experience. More importantly, her age disallows her to put it all out there because of THAT inexperience in the the sex department. She’s green……she probably should have watched LOLITA. LOL.
Obviously one cannot compare Kassie to True. DePaiva is in her fifties, and a seasoned actress. Beside the fact, that this is all about human flaws….I would hope that the majority of both men and women would not go there.
Again, I am so sorry I came on so strong. My sentiments were not directed at you personally, James. It was a general statement, and I should have made that clear. Don’t ever apologize for expressing an opinion. We may agree or disagree, ….that is the point. Later……peace.

Thank you, Cee Cee! Your latest post here has made my day! 🙂

Because you are one of my favorite posters, I didn’t want to disappoint you or have a “spat,” however minor. There is nothing for you to apologize for either. And you certainly didn’t come on too strong. We can certainly disagree about certain plot points, as fans do. For instance, I know that I am in the minority on certain things about GH. I have been highly critical of that show, despite being a long-time viewer.

Cee Cee, peace to you as well! Take care…

@James.
Awwww, James !! Thank you….that’s so sweet.
A’ propos, you are definitely not in the minority criticizing GH. I am new to the soap…I love it, albeit my criticism. I pick apart these remaining soaps, and I do hope they will last forever.
I thank you for praising my contribution to this site. Giving my view, and expressing my feelings takes me back to Humanities class in school……where, we, the students, were ‘ordered’ to pick apart Camus, Sartre, Voltaire etc. I write HOW I see it. I am forever grateful to Mr. Fairman for this opportunity…..and, of course, fans such as yourself, whose opinion I value ver much.

The only fan who cannot find any Imperfection with GH is su0000. But, ‘you gotta love her”… and I do. The girl cracks me up.
Have you read some of my posts? Or Shays?
As I said I love all my soaps…only three left for me. I must tell you, though, I miss AMC, and OLTL the most.

Thanks again, Cee Cee! It’s admirable and important, in fact, to write how we “see it.” And, yes, I have read the posts of the others you mentioned, and I enjoy them as well. Take care.

As good as these scenes are, I’m still not a fan of True O’Brien as Paige. She has a very limited acting range, and even though she rose to the occasion with these scenes, I think they need to seriously consider recasting the role if they intend to go on a “dark-side” story run with Paige. Also, I’m not a huge fan of Casey Moss as J.J., but I LOVE Kassie DePaiva! She plays Eve so well. I just wish Billy Warlock could return as Frankie! What a blast that would be.

I’m glad I’m not the only one to notice (and acknowledge) True’s great performance. I wasn’t expecting great things but she blew me out of the water! I normally watch episodes as background noise on my IPad when I cook, but I had to stop, pause and rewind on several occasions just to see it again. She was totally believable and seemed to really give it all she had. Very, very impressed!

And the writing was spotless. Exactly what you’d want from a reveal out of a story that has been building for 6 months. Everything came together and worked.

Really great job!

Jules, well said.
(hand clapping as i re-watch tonight. and will again this memorial day wknd.)

She even have MORE FANS NOW on Faceook,
and other days sites after that. All the soap talk this week so far is on True O Brien, she did it PERFECTA !

But,i’ve been her fan, since day uno. True O’ Brien, will not leave days.

She is a fave now,and has been to many.

True O’ Brien has proven she sure can DELIVER as a new actress in soaps, she did so better than some VETS. She is not leaving days at all.. Even if some hope, and are rumours. Paige and JJ are so beyond cute together,so i’m hoping 1 day the two reunite, but not yet.

The 2 of them, at paige birthday party was sooooo realistic, the entire family adore Paige,so this will make jj even more depress,as he has the perfect gf,
even a future child mother/wife, he really blew it. But PAIGE PROVE she is a great actress for soaps.(true o brien.) and i am glad DAYS will be keeping her around. After this incredible performance,of the WEEK in all soaps, i don’t see how they can’t… BRAVO TRUE O’ BRIEN, you’re magifico! adios

So True!!!!!

Amen to your comment about True She was great!! But my heart goes out for JJ.He loves her so much.

Ah, the weakness of us, mere mortals. I guess you are much more charitable than I am, Phyllis.
I suppose , and hope, this will be a lesson well-learned by JJ.
I am wondering, is there a chance, once this overwhelming hurt eases, if Paige could ever forgive either her mother or JJ.
Despite the fact that I have only been married seven years, soon after College, and have been with my husband (my first and only boyfriend) since I was sixteen, I still have much to learn. But, I could never, ever forgive him if he cheated on me….no whys, ifs or buts….no excuse.
However, this is a soap. Yet, I am always of the persuasion that fiction mimics non-fiction….everything is based on reality.

“….I had to stop, pause and rewind on several occasions just to see it again. ”

“…And the writing was spotless. ”

thats a DAYS review if I ever read one

NICE

it’s simmering anticipation time….

here it comes

we’re HITTING the big time

with ALL the rest of the cast

I say the same. This was the best performance in drama I ever seen on days. The plot sucked but the out was the best. She was so good I felt my mother and boyfriend did it to me. Also JJ was very good to. Even the invited guest played a major part. Bravo tru and days cast

She reminds me of a young Genie Francis (showing my age here). Best soap opera action I’ve seen in a very long time!! Well done, writers and actors.

I guess I’m the only one that’s not impressed by True’s performance. To me she seemed stiff and her facial expression never changed. I’m not saying she needs to leave, I’m just saying she needs to grow on me some more. I’m use to veteran performances where actors use their hands and arms to express what’s going on in the moment. The actor who plays Brady is a perfect examples of someone who plays his part realistically.

I know there was a slap, but the scene was still stiff, IMO.

Emmy nods for both True and Kassie. Great job by ensemble cast. Bravo all around.

Days Of Our Lives

Wally Kurth Talks on His DAYS Daytime Emmy Nomination, His Emotional Scenes, and Remembering John Aniston

During our 2023 year-end honors at Michael Fairman TV, we named Wally Kurth as our pick for Best Overall Performance by an Actor for his double-turn as both Ned Quartermaine on General Hospital and as Justin Kiriakis on Days of our Lives. So, it was absolutely no surprise to us that Wally landed a Daytime Emmy nomination for his riveting work as a grieving Justin in the Supporting Actor category for the upcoming 51st annual Daytime Emmy Awards.

On DAYS, Justin had been put through the emotional wringer, of first, losing his beloved Uncle Vic, played by the late John Aniston, and then finding out that Victor was the supposed biological father to Justin’s son, Alex (Rob Scott Wilson). If you didn’t reach for the hankies during some of Kurth’s work in these scenes, we don’t know what will make you do so.

Michael Fairman TV caught up with Wally to get his reaction to his fourth Daytime Emmy nomination in the last six years. Kurth was nominated in the Supporting category in 2018, 2020 and now 2024 and Lead Actor in 2021.

In addition, Wally shares what scenes were on his nominated reel, how John Aniston impacted his work, how he has changed as an actor over the years with a new outlook, and being the only actor out there with two long-running roles on two long-running soaps, and much more. Here’s what Wally had to share below.

Congratulations on your well-deserved nomination. You decided to submit yourself this year for Emmy contention in both Lead Actor for GH and Supporting Actor at DAYS, correct?

WALLY: I did. I thought the DAYS reel was a little more dramatic, much more emotional. I had thought with the way the judging goes that it might be a little bit more, winnable, if you will. I enjoyed and was proud of my work at General Hospital, so it’s all good. I’m thrilled. It’s always nice to be nominated.

Photo: JPI

What scenes did you ultimately choose for your Supporting Actor reel?

WALLY: I started chronologically, as always, trying to tell a little bit of a story. I actually started with a scene where Justin has to tell Maggie (Suzanne Rogers) that Victor’s (the late John Aniston) plane went down and it was not found. Then, the scene with Bonnie (Judi Evans) where I sort of have to let it all out, and grieve the loss of this man who was practically Justin’s father, but it was his Uncle Vic. We have a little scene talking about Victor, and then there is a short snippet at the funeral where Justin eulogizes Victor. Next, we jump to scene where Justin discovers the letter where Angelica admits that indeed Victor is Alex’s father (Rob Scott Wilson). So then, Justin has to tell Alex, and then I also sort of grieve the fact that I’m no longer his father. Justin basically lost his son. It was very dramatic and very emotional. I was guessing the judges would be like, “Hey! Enough with the crying! Stop, you big baby!” But, they didn’t. They must have thought that it was convincing enough that it felt really truthful at how Justin was upset about these two unfortunate realizations.

Photo: JPI

You bring up a really good point. I talk to actors all the time about crying on Emmy reels. Sometimes, many feel it might put voters off. But obviously, this time it worked well for you!

WALLY:  What I liked about the crying scenes was that, like in real life, you’re not crying all the time when something bad is happening, right? I think crying happens and it takes you off guard. It happens without you realizing it. These were all moments when Justin was alone, really. Bonnie comes in the room where Justin is just kind of like dealing with it. And then her coming in, opens up Justin and she is there to hold him. I think that often happens in real life. I thought that was correct for the writers to do that, you know, that Justin would break down when he was alone.

Photo: JPI

Did you feel the pressure of wanting to get these scenes when Victor died and at his memorial, just right due to the enormity to it, and to do justice for John Aniston?

WALLY: I allowed myself to use my heartbreak over John Aniston. I loved him. I just sort of allowed his presence for me in the scenes. It was sweet. It was good for me. I’m just thinking about it now and I feel teary-eyed. John was such a sweet man. He led by example, and he really did teach me how to be a professional actor, and he was a mentor. He never told me anything specific, but he was just John, and in the scenes, this was the time for me tell him how I feel.

Photo: JPI

Then, you had the heartbreaking scenes with Rob Scott Wilson where Justin tells Alex he is not his father!

WALLY:  I thought that was just really challenging material. As I get older, I just trust the material, and don’t get ahead of myself. I trust myself with the emotion. Just let it happen if it happens. When I first read it, I kind of imagined what it could look like and then you just let it unfold from there.

You’ve got Robert Gossett (Marshall, GH), A Martinez (Nardo, The Bay), Mike Manning (Caleb, The Bay), and Bryton James (Devon, Y&R) all in your category. Robert has won two Daytime Emmys in a row, last year for Supporting Actor and the year before for Guest Performer.

WALLY:  l love Robert. I worked with the character Marshall on General Hospital, and we had so much fun. He’s a great guy and a really good actor. A Martinez is the best guy ever. I have such admiration for him. Whenever I see him, we always really connect and to be in included with him is great. Bryton James, I don’t know, but I know he beat me in this category in 2020. Mike Manning, I didn’t get the opportunity to know when he was at DAYS as he weren’t in scenes together, but I hear good things about him, too.

Photo: JPI

When you are judging Emmy reels, what do you look for when you’re voting on a performance?

WALLY: That’s a really great question. And because let’s face it, there’s just a lot of terrific talent in daytime. This year, I judged two categories. I don’t just go with, “Okay, who’s crying the most.” I really try to go with the one who’s touches me the most, who surprises me and moves me. And so, if you go with that, you’re probably going in the right direction. I also think that upfront you do need to kind of give them something in the first couple minutes that shows you know what you’re doing and don’t make it too repetitive.

Who did you first tell you were nominated?

WALLY: My manager, Michael Bruno called me. I was in Chicago with my daughters having a late breakfast and I knew the nominations were going to happen around 11 am Chicago time. I didn’t tell my daughters about what was happening, just in case, I didn’t get nominated. So, when Michael called, I went, “Oh, boy!” I told my daughters who were sitting at the table with me. So, they were the first two people that I could tell, and that was really nice.  We had champagne which was really funny because I bought three little glasses of champagne, and as soon as I bought it, we toasted. They said, “We don’t really like champagne.” So, I ended up drinking all three glasses. (Laughs)

Photo: JPI

What do you think of Eric Martsolf (Brady), your Day Players Band member, and DAYS co-star getting a Lead Actor nomination?

WALLY: I remember, I was like talking to him and I was like, “Eric, are you going to submit yourself?” And he is like, “I don’t know. I don’t really have anything …” And the next thing you know, he’s nominated. I’m like, “Wow! I guess he found something!” (Laughs) I love Eric. I have such respect for him and his gift, and he works really hard. So, I was very happy for him. I’m glad we weren’t in the same category, however.

How many years now have you been playing Justin on DAYS?

WALLY: I started here 37 years ago in 1987. I was there for four years and then I left. Then, 18 years later, Ken Corday (EP, DAYS) invited me back in 2009 and I’ve been on the show now for 15 years. So, I guess a total of 20 years on and off over the last 37 years. Everyone remembers 1987-1991 … those were big, big years for Justin and Adrienne who back then were a supercouple.

Photo: JPI

Have you determined who you would thank in your acceptance speech if you win this year’s Supporting Actor Daytime Emmy?

WALLY: I feel like this year I kind of have an idea of what I would say. I think I can remember all of that without writing it down. If I had gotten nominated for both shows, I was definitely going to point out and thank the powers-that-be for giving me dual citizenship and how much I appreciate that. I do think that being on both soaps, I will go to my grave believing that it’s made me a better actor. In fact, since I’ve been doing both shows, I’ve been nominated for Daytime Emmys. I’ve become a better actor. I feel like maybe it’s just that I’ve gotten older and wiser, but I feel as though when I go in there to work, I’m really focused and I’m really prepared. I know I pretty much get one shot to get it. We’re in the business of “one takes” now in the soaps.

People are so lucky to even have one enduring role in their careers, but you’ve been able to have two, and they’re completely separate characters on two legacy shows; one which just turned 61, General Hospital, and the other Days of our Lives which will soon celebrate 60 years, as well.

WALLY: I didn’t plan on it. I must have done something right. Back in 2009, Ken called me up and invited me back to DAYS. I really jumped in. I’d been out of work for four or five years. I went back with a whole new attitude about the work, about the genre.  In 2004, when I left General Hospital, I was kind of burnt out. Looking back on it, I didn’t have a good attitude and I was just done. I was kind of tired. New writers come in and sometimes, when you have new writers that look at your character differently, it can be very difficult, because you just know that their passion is not with your character. However, in this case, I’m like, “I’m going to take whatever the writers give me and do the best I can and do my job. Let the writers do their job.” I think the writers also know that I really respect them and I’m not going to complain. I’m not going to tell them what to do and I’m going to stay out of it. They have enough to work out. They have enough to do. I’m going to be the problem solver, not the problem creator. There are enough problem creators. Believe me when I tell you that every time I leave those sets, I’m like, “Thank you. I love it.  See you the next time I see you.” I know how lucky I am to do both shows and to have this opportunity to act at my age and still be sent scripts. I love the art of acting. I’d do it for free. The fact that they’re paying me and I am able to do this and work with these great, wonderful, talented actors every day, it’s kind of mind-blowing.

Lisa Rinna Would Be Down to Reprise Her Role of Taylor McBride in ‘Melrose Place’ Reboot

When Lisa Rinna departed her popular role of Billie Reed on Days of our Lives back in 1995, her next major role would be a jump to primetime and the soapy Melrose Place.

In 1996, Lisa was introduced as new character Taylor McBride and stayed with the Fox young adult sudser for three seasons. Now in 2024, with the recent reveal that a Melrose Place revival is the works with Heather Locklear, Daphne Zuniga and Laura Leighton all on board to reprise their signature roles, would Rinna board the project should it come to fruition?

Speaking with PEOPLE, Rinna expressed, “Well, gosh, I’ve heard about it. I haven’t been approached or anything, but I would love to see what Taylor McBride is up to 25 years later. Wouldn’t that be something?”

OG Melrose Place fans know that in story, Taylor moved to the Melrose Place apartment building with her husband Kyle played by Rob Estes. However, Taylor had her eye on Dr. Peter Burns played by former GH star Jack Wagner (ex-Frisco). But, by the time she had moved to the apartment complex, Peter had married tough as nails ad executive, Amanda Woodward, played by Heather Locklear.

Recalling her time on Melrose Place, Rinna added that it, “was one of my greatest and most fun acting experiences, playing Taylor and working with Heather and the whole crew.”  Rinna also noted, “So if they need a Taylor McBride appearance, they know who to call. I’m around.”

The new Melrose Place is in development at CBS Studios. In the premise of the reboot, the Melrose Place residents reunite after the death of one of their friends, “but the pressure cooker of a reunion soon uncovers old traumas, rekindles old romances, reignites old resentments, and reveals new secrets… throwing our characters into chaotic drama that’s reminiscent of the past, but with a much more modern perspective.”

Kristian Alfonso Returns to Days of our Lives for Tribute to The Late Bill Hayes

After a few weeks of Days of our Lives fans being upset that Kristian Alfonso (Hope Williams) was not on the first list of initial returns for Doug Williams’ funeral and episodes honoring his portrayer, the late Bill Hayes, comes word that the popular star is back and taping scenes.

Kristian reported to work on the Peacock streaming soap opera on Monday, April 22nd. She shared how important it is for her to be back for this particular return to the show that made her a household name.

“My return is very bittersweet,” Alfonso told TV Insider,  “because it is the end of an era with Bill gone. So to return to Days is very sad. I am appreciative that they came to me to include me in their series of shows honoring Doug and I’m very happy to see everyone, but I’m entering the studio with a heavy heart.”

It was back in 1983 that Kristian first debuted as Doug’s daughter, and now 41 years later looking back at it, and her time with Bill Hayes is very emotional for her.

“I remember my first scenes with him/ He was very loving, very welcoming. That he was very talented and an incredible actor and an icon, that all goes without saying, but my personal relationship and my working relationship with Bill, it was home,” expressed Alfonso. “Doing the scenes with Bill, I felt like I was with my dad because there was so much warmth and reality.”

Alfonso did express some deep regret, in that she had wanted to work with Bill Hayes during her last appearance on the soap back in 2023, but according to the iconic actress, there was something in the works but it never materialized.  “I’m sad that I did not get the opportunity to do the storyline that Ron (Carlivati, head writer) had planned/ It was great; we returned to Salem to reunite with our families and I would have had father/daughter scenes with Billy. What Ron had written was beautiful and emotional and it was a fantastic story. I was 100 percent for it and the fans would have loved it.”

As for if Bo (Peter Reckell) and Hope will be back on-screen together anytime soon, Kristian would only say, “What I will say is don’t give up hope.” Doug’s passing and memorial episodes will stream later this year come late November into December.
