DAYS OF OUR LIVES: Claire Drops A Bombshell On Hope: "Rafe Cheated On You!"

Courtesy/NBC

Courtesy/NBC

Finally, the truth is out on Days of our Lives.  After several months of who might blow the whistle on Rafe (Galen Gering) for sleeping with Sami (Alison Sweeney), it all came to a boiling point on Friday’s episode.

While everyone is gathered for Rafe and Hope’s long-awaited “nuptials” (even though they were secretly married the night before), Claire (Olivia Rose Keegan) is a ticking time bomb having recorded Ciara (Victoria Konefal) and Tripp’s (Lucas Adams) conversation where the two of them discuss Rafe sleeping with Sami.

Now although at that point in time, Rafe and Hope had temporarily broken up, this kind of revelation would be difficult for Hope to cope with given that Sami is Rafe’s ex-wife etc.

After Ciara confronts Claire not to tell her mother the truth and let Hope and Rafe be happy, Claire just cannot get past the lie.

So, what’s a granddaughter to do?  She walks up to Rafe and Hope before their “wedding” at Doug’s Place, and says she has to talk to her.  Ciara tells Rafe in front of Hope that Claire knows the truth.  It is only seconds before Claire spills the beans.  She does just that telling Hope: “Rafe cheated on you!”

Cut to reactions from Doug (Bill Hayes), Julie (Susan Seaforth Hayes), Eric (Greg Vaughan) and Jennifer (Melissa Reeves), Gabi (Camila Banus) and JJ (Casey Moss), and then we get the major reaction from Hope and Rafe as the show goes to black.  How will Hope deal with the secret that has now been exposed, especially since Rope are really married?

Watch a promo for next week’s DAYS below, and then let us know if you hope this is the end for Rope, or that they will work things out when all is said and done in the comment section below.

So we will have to wait for JJ and Lani’s wedding then someone will step up and announce lani is carrying Eli’s baby..then an angry JJ socks Eli and confronts Lani right when her water breaks…then both are trapped in an elevator forcing JJ to deliver the baby!!!!

Love the scene where Ciara punches Claire…as for Rafe…he will get shot or something and be near death and Hope will get all emotional and want him back…so he slept with Sami…its not like the first time she senn him all nakey-lol

LOL… this is soap-opera fodder, Jimmy…couples break up and one of the two, or both, sleeps with someone else…blah, blah, blah….glad he did, in this case.
Hope had broken up with him, so he was free to sleep with anyone .
But, to be fair, Hope must think how ‘unbroken’-hearted Rafe must have been to tumble into bed with Sami. I’m sooo happy they’re done, albeit they will most likely hook up again and not go through with the divorce…darn!!
Yet, ironically, it was probably that heartache which got the better of him….and Sami was the healing prize!

Maybe there’s a good side to Claire that I haven’t seen because I’ve been watching for less than a year…but I can’t stand her! By contrast, I love Ciara and I’m loving Ciara and Tripp together.

I know it’s the soapy thing to do and I knew it was coming but I hated how Claire blurted it out. And isn’t it the way of soaps that everyone exposes everyone’s secrets in front of everyone? There’s communal…and then there’s no sense of privacy whatsoever! So unrealistic; I can’t believe anyone would actually tell a person they care about such private news in front of all. A child would; not someone who is though still young, is old enough to know discretion.

And I get that Rafe slept with Sami but I don’t see it as cheating; they had broken up. It’s not even like Rafe is fickle. He didn’t turn a swtich on and off…love Hope one minute and Sami the next. Like Lani and Eli…Sami and Rafe had “trying to get over someone/something sad reaching-out-to-someone-else” sex. As did Alexis and Finn on GH. If Hope is angry or feels betrayed it should be more about his not telling her about it. Don’t see how she can blame him when she literally gave his ring back and he thought he didn’t/couldn’t measure up to her love for Bo.

I don’t know enough about these characters to have an opinion on whether Rafe and Hope should work it out. I’m curious to hear what viewers who have more of a history with the show think. I really like Rafe; Hope when she’s in “girly” mode is a bit over the top. I also get a judgmental vibe from her. Not sure if I’m right but that’s how she comes off to me; though I like how she is with her daughter and others in her family.

I like Ciara and Tripp together too, they have great chemistry and smart to show them as friends first and working together. This will probably affect Tripp and Claire’s friendship, darn! lol

Hi Blake…

Yeah! They’re so natural together! Both actors (Ciara and Tripp) are excellent; very natural. Both gorgeous, too. Hope they keep them together.

That friendship between Ciara and Claire was on the rocks over Theo to begin with; and then when Tripp started paying attention to Ciara it was sooo obvious that Claire was jealous. This latest debacle that she caused was the icing on the cake! As for her friendship with Tripp…not sure if he’ll totally abandon her but at least his eyes are opened! (I hope!)

Great knockout punch from Ciara! LOL… (and well-deserved!)

Wasn’t it great when Ciara called Claire out for always wanting the attention to be made about her? An amazing detail from the writers since Claire was a world traveler with her parents.

It’s definitely going to be interesting in the apartment with the Three’s Company gang now!

Blake: didn’t know about her world traveling; wasn’t watching back then. Good to know. Will look it up.

“Three’s Company!” LOL! Good analogy. “Cept I think “Jack”/Tripp has switched his attraction from “Chrissie”/Claire to Ciara/”Janet”!

Yes, blake. I said the same a while back…..Tripp will wake up one morning in love with Ciara. The feelings are buried right now because he thinks he’s hot to trot for Claire.
But, after the stunt she pulled, Tripp will see Claire for the little weasel-ette she is.

Funny you said that Celia, Tripp and Ciara discussed that in today’s episode.

Right, blake? I’m sure you see it, as well….sometimes, not often, I can sort of foresee what’s to come. Claire and Tripp don’t even look ‘right’ together. I’ve always looked upon her as the perpetual little sister to somebody, LOL.
I loooove interacting with you blake—-

Ciara and Tripp are good together…almost reminds me of a young Julie and David Martin-way before your time(back in the 60s)-yep im old…Julie had a son from David Martin and gave him up …but later got the child back…he is the late father of Valerie’s son Eli…anyway David Martin married Julie’s rival Susan Hunter and they had a child but the young child died under David’s watch..Susan snapped and shot David over the death of their child and David died…

Jimh…my head always spins when I try to track the history of ANY soap; because of their longevity there’s just so much info and people tied to each other! Too funny. If anyone were to do a family tree of these soap families they’d have to borrow some of Jack’s beans and make the TALLEST beanstalk to attach the many branches! (does a beanstalk have branches? well, you get my drift!) 😉

Yes, Jimmy….my Gran said the same thing. David Banning ( Julie’s and David Martin’s son) also had a son ( Scotty) with Trish Clayton.
I like Ciara and Tripp, too….I hope they don’t end up like Julie and David, though, LOL.

I think they will work it out eventually considering they were not even technically a couple when it happened– but we will have to go through all the drama of a break up first. And was I the only one hoping Ciara was going to shove the wedding cake into Claire’s face to stop her from talking– or well maybe next time.

THIS is the show to watch.

It really is! Days was really good last week, I can’t wait to see what happens this week!

I love Days….those who can’t see the soap’s merits are just blind, blake, LOL.

lol no kidding Celia!

A lot of people have been saying the same thing, to start watching DOOL, but I can’t seem to get into it, again. I only started watching (again) when Eileen Davidson returned (maybe 5 years ago). Then, I stopped when she left. NuAbby really grates on my nerves. I can’t seem to warm-up to her.

Hi, dmr,
I had the hardest time when Marci came on boad, dmr. I just couldn’t get over losing Mansi…..so I, subconsciously, resented Marci.
She will never reach Kate’s status in my eyes, but, Marci is growing on me.
I think TPTB are doing Abby a disservice making her look like such a puppet…it’s neither helping the character nor the actress.

Never have I enjoyed Ciara more! OMG! She just POPPED that airhead Claire. YASSSSS!!! Rafe had so many chances to tell Hope. I’d cry if I gave a damn but I don’t so I “hope” he suffers big time. Hope needs to become a nun because she chooses terrible men. Aiden? Rafe? I mean seriously! No one, obviously, can be Bo but c’mon girl use your head and not that umm “heated box” to find your man next time. I wish that Lani had brains enough to confront El’s mom…and tell her that she’s suing her for malpractice after she used her PRIVATE medical records to blackmail her. Oh gosh DAYS has been so much fun lately. I am living for it! That is L to the I to the V to the E…….LIVE! Ron…my man….kudos!

I loved seeing Ciara have it out with Claire, trying to be friends was hard to watch. Can’t wait to see the aftermath.

I find it amazing, blake…..Ciara is Claire’s aunt….
As Harry would say, “…no respect, I tell ya.”….
I always find it hilarious when girls, women alike, fight over guys. Why? I could never lower myself in that manner. All the angst between the two started over Theo….will it ever end?

Such a great episode… I felt like I got punched in the stomach when Claire told Hope about Rafe cheating… I felt so bad for Hope. Even though I read what was going to happen, it was very suspenseful waiting to see Claire break the news.

Oh so what? He just had broken up with Hope so it shouldn’t make any difference.

This show is ON FIRE. Stefan is a great addition, the lead up to the Rafe/Hope wedding has been incredible and Ciara/Tripp has super-couple written all over them.

ITA with everything you said!

Agree on all you said, too!

Inasmuch as I can’t stand Claire, I am so glad the cat’s out of the bag.
Aside: I would like to express this without any malice, but deep concern….Claire looks emaciated–skin and bones….is it just I?

I have a hard time looking at her. Painful. Does not help that her character is truly despicable and dysfunctional.

Hi, Helen,
I wonder if anyone around this girl notices how wafer-thin she has gotten since her introduction on Days. I am no doctor, but she looks to be suffering from anorexia nervosa. There’s thin, and then there’s thin!
The bulging eyes ( which we see so prominently) is a tell-tale sign.
Perhaps, she is naturally thin?…,,

She does look awful. She needs to put on some weight. It is so unattractive to be that thin. She sure needs help.

You never know, Celia, but I knew a few girls way back when who were bony from kindergarten all the way through school and beyond. They didn’t gain weight until in their 30’s and 40’s. I believe ORK might be naturally skinny because she seemed to be that way several years ago.

I like Claire and think she could become a character most viewers love to hate.

Hi, 4ever,
I follow what you’re saying, 4ever…..however, ORK was not this thin when she started. I understand how girls can be naturally thin, as can boys, but she is not just skinny….she’s bony; and when the head is seemingly too big for the neck and shoulders, something is not right.
Yet, I hope you are correct…..I would not like for this so very young woman to be going through some trauma…..

Yeah Celia, I don’t like to talk about actor’s looks, but I worry about the actress playing Claire. I know she’s really skinny but doesn’t look very healthy, shows around the eyes. It’s distracting, like the day she and Marlena ate ice cream. I kept wondering if Deidra Hall knows about it and is concerned. I just want the actress to be healthy and happy.

Hi, blake,
I agree, my friend….as yourself, this is not commenting on her beauty or not. It is about how ‘unnatural’ Claire looks….skeletal.
Her fellow-actors must see how frighteningly thin she has become.

really nice post. Ms. Claire – my little starlet –

you have a fan base that cares. YES you do. if you are at all concerned about your weight , and issue of the like. PLEASE get checked out

YOU are a part of a whole production that is on track . as I’ve posted before :

2 things –

1. its FUN FUN FUN to read . THE GROWN UP SORAS KIDS – ROCKING IT. yes they are. Tripp , Ciera Alice , Claire. plus Theo and am missing Chase, and Joey. who would have thought… this is a NICE DREAM…. to see the younger set taking hold.

2. I’ve posted several times, on my concern… ( care ) for @GH… Kirsten Storms as Maxie ; and Kelly Monaco as Sam. wafer thin.

Ms. Kirsten… you look beautiful now. you have been maintaining since your return.

take care – be well

No; I agree with you.

Right, dmr. I really don’t mean this as a put-down…..We don’t know what’s going on with Olivia; she does not look healthy. She’s almost transparent; wraith-like……wispy comes to mind, as well.

Hi Celia! I think it’s admirable that you are bringing up this topic. And your intent is not at all critical. You and the other posters are demonstrating only concern. That’s what family and friends should do in situations like this as well as others when it seems someone has a drug or alcohol problem.

My favorite singer of all time, Karen Carpenter, died (at age 32 on February 4, 1983) of complications of anorexia nervosa. Her death brought attention and a famous face to this disorder. In Karen’s case, she had finally sought help for her condition of incessant dieting and overuse of laxatives. Anorexia nervosa was diagnosed, and she made great strides and even gained weight. But the toll on her body from years of unintended self-abuse created too much strain on her heart and she passed away.

Sadly, models, actors (male ones, too), and others in the public eye fall into this syndrome of wanting to achieve control and perfection, and the consequences become ill health and even death. Knowledge is power…

Thank you for the inspiring post, James. I’m so glad you see through my intent….I do mean well. There are too many closeted youths who battle with anorexia and/or bulimia, either due to peer pressure or, as you point out, their job ( modeling).
I read somewhere that the ‘big guys’ who produce/direct THE VOICE asked Kelly Clarkson to lose weight if she wants to keep her job. ……not sure if its veracity.
But, just the idea of suggesting such an insulting ‘command’ makes my blood boil.
Kelly is such a resfreshing addition ( love her happy personality); I don’t even notice her weight. So trivial…
Besides, James, the show is ironically referred to as the ‘blind auditions’. Go figure.
As far as Olivia, James, I refuse to believe the DOOL cast does not see what many of us see……

Hi, again, James,
Of its veracity, James, not ‘if’…… of all people, you ( and Ron) have such impeccable grammar, I do not want to lose face. I am a grammar fiend, albeit I make a zillion typos. LOL.
I think every young girl goes through a “I’m so fat” phase—it is a crying, sad shame when some girls and boys take it to the extreme.
I sincerely hope there are people standing behind Olivia to pick her up IF she falls.

TY, James.

Celia, thanks for your reply and kind words. And you’re right: it’s not only famous people but so many others who battle eating disorders. Your anecdote about THE VOICE is chilling and insulting. It’s that type of pressure by those ill-advised producers that can create an atmosphere whereby one resorts to drastic measures to achieve an “ideal” body weight. Best to you, Friend.

WHAT a – NICE – twist on being secretly married the night before. stabbed that much more in the back ? double down on doesn’t look good for Rafe.

“you have to answer to me” oy – not that Doug and Julie can break Rafe. it’s just smarmy that we get to hear this again… from the crème de la crème. LOVE how the show invigorates the audience.

1. I’m so glad Galen Gerring is getting a new lease on life. He can act – period

what will this fallout do ? more Sami like un momento ? and/or Rafe doing so much more than the law abiding officer of the law.. and Hope hanger on. and Gabs big brother.

that sure doesn’t sound like much. YET Rafe , my man has been in and around @DOOL for near 10 plus years . WOAH he’s Cary Grant

1999–2008 – Passions – Luis Lopez-Fitzgerald Main role
2008–present – Days of Our Lives – Rafe Hernandez – Main role

without doubt.. his looks carried him. we’ve been treated to his presence, since 1999, full time lead. that’s saying A LOT. FULL TIME CONTRACT LEADING trigger

@Sony / DOOL / NBC – it’s just time to bring back Christie Clark. you want all your senses loaded

whatever the pen to paper – RC scripture TURNS

I am so glad it doesn’t look good for Rafe….not because of him….he’ll get over it, Patrick!!
I loooove the twist, LOL…..as I do your post, my friend!!

whew ! right ? I thought… that perhaps WITH the twist

that’d simply mean… that Hope and Rafe have to do some serious discussion on just what they mean to each other.

the last brouhaha – it seemed like it ended on Rafe telling Hope and if she agreed or not… He could never be Bo.

so… the twist leads me to think… at least the hope and Rafe fans aren’t left dangling that quick. they ARE married. and that infidelity …. took at a time they thought they had parted ways.

their pairing has been so long in the tooth… will they or won’t they… and any romance and tender scenes these two will go to great length to prove , not just me, that they are a viable hotted out couple who belong together

huh? no i’m not feeling it. PLUS we have to part Jenny Bear and the other hotted out one… Eric and Jenny Bear. HURRY

Of, course

“…crush on Galen since forever ”

what a hilarious post. well.. truth be told.. I always thought “his” ahem… scenes with Kate were better.

yeah, it’s simply about time to put him to good use and FEATURE his person’a

quite telling how much he’s appreciated on this site.

PS: do you think he could be our modern day “era” Cary Grant ?

Celia…oh, I get what you’re saying about DOOL’S Julie. To me, Julie was always a self-righteous busybody. Julie reminds me of Paul’s mother (Mary) from Y&R!!!!! But, Mary was WAY MORE WORSE than Julie!!!!! Back then, Mary was an annoying, meddling and self-righteous PIECE OF WORK!!!!! I truly HATED Mary…PERIOD!!!!!

Later, my friend.

@Jaybird…
Yeah….harsh and harsh. I vaguely remember Mary ( Y&R)….maybe that’s why her husband shacked up with another woman, LOL. Oh, gee….that’s so mean of me, my Jay…..HaHa…
Later..

Glad you also like Galen Gerring. I’ve always thought he was a good actor, but he’s also so handsome. I just wish they’d show his body more, the other day they showed his arms “guns” and I’d love to see more of him!

Agree that Christie Clark needs to be brought back as Carrie. I’d love to see her on contract, or at least recurring.

I have had a crush on Galen since forever, blake….hot !! I simply do not like Hope….could be I’m secretly jealous? LOL.
A few years ago, when ‘Rafe’ and ‘Sami’ were together, I had read that Galen’s wife was so jealous of his ‘make-out’ scenes with Sami, that she wanted him to ‘slow’ it down….
….don’t know if there was any truth to it….

blake, Nick wasn’t Julie’s grandson. He was the son of Julie’s first cousin, Jessica who is the daughter of Marie who is the sister of Addie who was Julie’s mother.

You know, blake? Nick got what he deserved, so I agree with you……it was either his life or Gabi’s. I don’t understand why she even went to jail for killing him, in the first place. He was a monster!!
Also, according to my Gran, Julie is doing to Gabi exactly what she did to Trish, who had a son ( Scotty) with David.
Actually, my Gran said that Julie and Carly ( GH) are like two peas in a pod, LOL.

Thanks for clearing that up 4ever DAYS.

And Celia, I can’t wait til Gabi can rub the news is Julie’s face.

Julie drives me crazy. Anyone remember how she was unfaithful back in the day. She doesn’t have a leg to stand on. Between her and Claire, I wish someone would tell them both to just mind their own business and get a life

Hi, Kathy,
…..not only only is Julie acting the shrew, but she has yet to learn that Eli did exactly the same thing as Rafe. So, the holier-than-thou attitude does not hold water. She went on and on about Rafe and his cheating….
Well, her story was well before my time, but, I get all my info from my grandmother. Wasn’t Doug married to her mother, Addie? And, didn’t she treat Trish like a pariah? Julie has always been one of those women who is never wrong and knows best…..busybody! And, it seems that Claire is following in her footsteps…starting young!!
I am very fond of Susan and I loooove Bill/Doug….Julie? Not my cup of cappuccino.

Agree Kathy. Julie annoys me every time she is on. Today she was wayyyy over the top going off on Gabi. Like you said Julie pretends she’s never done anything wrong.

I hope Gabi rubs it in Julie’s face when the truth about Andre’s killer comes out. Julie acts like her grandson was an angel after all the horrible things he did, it’s what got him killed. Even Sami and Kate helped Gabi with Nick.

Patrick: I LOVED Rafe with Kate….how could I forget about that???? She is older, but, Lordy Lord; this is one time where I don’t care. She looks soooo good . ….and they dealt well together. This couple would sizzle…not just in bed, but as a couple who would not bore me as Hope did with him.
The same goes for Alexis…..she looks great with Finn….not older, at all. And, I like them together, personality-wise.

shucks… “…The same goes for Alexis…..she looks great with Finn….not older, at all. And, I like them together, personality-wise. ”

Absolutely ! where is it written in stone… “Luke and Laura” forever

I realize the blood is still fresh… when it comes to what happened between Julian and Alexis.

1. they belong together
2. fans want them to reconcile

why does this have to be so “difficult” I bet you any thing… HOPEFULLY, some of these actors WANT to stretch their wing and chew something

temporarily , bring things to a hault… and back burner. Julian and Alexis.

till then.. why not .. I AGREE . Alexis and ( if we must have him on the show ) Finn works with Alexis. they had an easy banter and refreshing light humorous conversations… relating to each other the goings on in life.

OK… I can go their… my agenda for Julian… MORE MORE MORE. be it with Robin Christopher, ex Skye Quartermaine… soap god here my plea… I’d love to see one more time the lovely RC’ Skye grace our screen. she would have been perfect for bringing in the ladies @the Q manse…

Other than that… Julian and Kim. this is sizzling ooh la la FIRE. whatever TPTB do… because it’s the same thing with Kim and Drew.

SIZZLING OOH LA LA FIRE

dang

I actually enjoyed the Claire/Tripp/Ciara scenes leading up to this. It was great seeing Ciara and Claire really have it out and have Claire mention Ciara breaking Theo’s heart. The actress playing Ciara is a real spit fire! I’m glad Ciara is finally played by a good actress again.

Ron C. is great with these umbrella stories. It’s going to be great seeing Hope upset and confronting not only Rafe, but Ciara, Tripp and maybe Marlena since she knows also.

Days had an amazing week altogether. The “Gabigail” story is must-see-TV! I loved “Gabi” and Vivian’s fight, and Vivian and Stefan arguing over Abby killing Andre. If you aren’t watching Days you need to be!!!

I just watched the preview, Gabi finds out about Eli being the father of Lani’s baby???? Oh man!

Sounds good, eh, blake?!…great stuff piling up on everyone’s head!! Loving the ride!! Now, we’re talking…..

Yes Celia, today was great! Smart to have Eli tell Gabi the truth at the end of the episode. Days has had great cliffhangers at the end of each episode. Every day is must-see-TV.

Hey Blake…

Eli’s in much deeper/hotter water now that he lied to Gabi again! I cannot believe that he came clean about cheating but lied about the baby being his. He just made his situation ten times worse; you just know the truth will come out. There’s no way Gabi will be with him once she finds out the baby is his. He literally lied right to her face after he confessed his first lie…I cringed! He couldn’t have made a worse decision if he tried. Bye-bye Gabi/Eli…

She’s gorgeous, isn’t she???

True Rebecca, I thought the same thing with Eli. I thought Gabi might use that against Lani when Lani found her with the evidence. I hope Gabi definitely calls Lani out after this.

Yes, I said this from the onset of nuCiara—-spitfire….funny, my husband calls me that more frequently than I would like, LOL.
Claire needed an in-your-face foil, blake–tired of seeing Ciara as a pushover, door-mat…..never liked Claire’s self-important ‘tude.
Telling on Rafe was not out of the goodness of her heart, nor out of righteousness, nor for love of her grandmother……Claire’s actions are, actually, pathetic…..this was all about sticking it to Ciara, since we know as well as Claire herself, that Hope will be resentful of the fact that her daughter knew of Rafe’s faux pas and said nothing.
The irony is that Ciara truly kept quiet out of love for her mother….did not want to put her through the pain.
Don’t get me wrong, my friend ( LOL)….as I said, I am relieved there is trouble in paradise.

admittedly, Claire comes across as “bambi in headlights” says things before she ought. no?

so perhaps that’s her foible. I don’t know any one who’d truly ” if any one can see why these two should not be joined…. etc I haven’t went to a wedding and experience that . so seeing Claire just jump … and gazelle herself to Dougs Place.

“Oh, my dear little twist ”

blood will be shed , no?

whatever the fallout… Claire, Ciera, Tripp…. are keeping up and swinging

@Patrick.
You’re right, Patrick….these three are the show right now….love ’em or h**e ’em, they’re bringing it….
The Hope-Rafe-romance is, indeed, long in the tooth….a nightmare, my friend!!!! Actually, Hope is long in the tooth…no damsel in distress, she.
Why is it that suddenly all these women, with tainted pasts, have become these pristine, angelic beings? Another one is Ms Jenny…ugh!!!!!
Too bad Eric and Theresa are cousins. Get him away from Jen…please, writers. I am as adamant about her and Eric as I am about Hope and Rafe. Isn’t it amazing how Ari Zucker was perfect for every male character on this soap….I guess she is the type of actress who fits with anyone….charismatic!!
Can’t stand Brady, either….spoiled, whiny brat.

OK…you know what: I give that Claire chick MAJOR PROPS for interrupting that JOKE of a wedding!!!!! Yeah Yeah I know…Rafe and Hope are already married…G-A-G!!!!! Bottom Line Here (for me): Hopefully, a DIVORCE for Rafe and Hope will soon follow…TOTALLY!!!!!

Later.

Glad the secret is out! Now Hope needs to forgive and move on. Afterall, Rafe did not cheat. Hope was the one that initiated the situation that caused the emotional pain. Sami was just there to alleviate it for that moment. Can’t blame either one of the for that. It happens in life. So suck it up and move on.

Hope does NOT need to forgive and move on.

If Rafe’s solution to Hope giving his ring back was to hop in bed with his ex then clearly he didn’t think what they had was worth fighting for.

There is WAAAAAAAAAAAAAAY too much “forgivin’ and forgettin’” when it comes to cheaters. If my partner did that to me, his crap would be on the curb and the locks would be changed. End of discussion.

Wedding interruptions (for one reason or another) are standard operating procedure in Salem. There’s a reason why the really big weddings – the ones that actually completed- were location shoots done somewhere else (Greece, London, etc.)

It’s a bit of a cliche, but far more entertaining than ReRon’s 666th DID storyline, at least.

Loved the reaction shots.

Wished Claire hadn’t said anything.

On a sidenote, JJ is so annoying me with his fawning over Lani. I’m sure she’s annoyed too and may tell him Eli is the father just to get him to leave her alone.

You know what TPTB are doing, Mo?….they are building JJ up as the perfect husband and father, so that the viewer will feel so sorry for him when the bad news breaks….
I am not liking this ‘mushiness’, either…it does grate on the nerves…..
It was meant to be for JJ and Gabi to end up together, again…..if they do end up as one.

@Alan.
Hey, Alan,
Do you know how many times I have said the same? If my husband ever cheated on me, I would not give him the time of day to explain…..no forgiveness….no trust. I could never live with someone I no longer trusted.
He cannot go rub ‘feet’ with someone else and then touch me….there’s the door.
However, Rafe and Hope were not together; so, I don’t know if that was cheating…..by the same token, I do agree that his actions made it look as if what he and Hope shared was forgettable.

@Celia

I get the whole “WE WERE ON A BREAK!!!” thing but if my boyfriend’s first reaction to a break-up was to immediately fall into bed with his ex that would tell me loads about him and his belief in us as a couple…and as a result, his crap would be on the curb and the locks would be changed.

My mother said that if a man cheats and you forgive him, you are opening yourself up to a lifetime of more of the same. I’ma stick with her advice.

@Alan.
Hello, Alan,
Those are words to live by, my friend. I do not believe in cheating….if I can do it, so can my husband…..or anybody. There is no excuse for cheating.
I would never forgive him…..and, your mother speaks the truth….so wise!!…once a cheater, always a cheater….gay or straight alike….makes no difference. Love and faithfulness are qualities uppermost in any relationship.
What is the point of staying together if the trust is gone?
As I said, theoretically, Hope and Rafe had broken up…..that’s the best excuse….on the other hand, the action of falling into another’s bed when the one he just left is still warm, taints the picture of true love. How can love be forgotten so rapidly? The other excuse is, of course, the couple falls into each other’s arms ( and beyond) to alleviate the pain!!
Well, all I can say is that when my heart aches, I sulk and mope and lay in bed, in the dark….I would not go out looking for ‘some’ to drown my sorrow; I would wallow in it.
I understand, to a certain degree, because it was Sami, not anyone out of thin air….yet, now after reading your comment, I revert to what I, also, said….in that, skipping off with Sami speaks a thousand words, not only to the viewer, but also to Hope. The gesture made what they had meaningless.
So, yeah…..forgiveness is not just a word. I said this a million times before…..no way would I allow my husband/boyfriend/lover touch me after he had been with someone else. No forgiveness, period.

JJ has turned into a wimp. Can’t stand his character right now. Valerie is another one who needs to just shut her mouth.

Kathy…EXACTLY!!!!! I CANNOT STAND Valerie…PERIOD!!!!!

They did the same thing with Liam on B&B; had him fawning all over Steffy until he learned she had cheated on him with his father. It was waaaay over the top and “make it stop!” was my constant reaction. LOL…

And by the way, does JJ come with subtitles? There’s speaking in a low tone and then there’s whispering…shhhhh…no one move. I need to hear what JJ’s saying.

More and more, Valerie WORKS MY NERVES!!!!! And I STILL SAY THAT Debbi Morgan should have been cast as Valerie…and NOT Vanessa Williams!!!!!

Just saying……….

Debbi Morgan’s great. But I do like this actress, too. She had a small role in The Flash; played Iris’s mother. (And if you don’t watch the show that means nothing to you, LOL. but she was good in that role, too.) Accomplished actress.

Rebecca…I’ve heard of The Flash. But I had no idea that Vanessa Williams appeared in that. My bad.

Have a good one, Rebecca.

Hey jabird. LOL…not a problem…Just a tidbit about what she’s done. It was a small role; only appeared in a few episodes but I thought she looked familiar! The Flash, by the way, is fun! Love it.

Ahhh, Jay….I miss Debbi Morgan so much….I agree with you.

I pray Hope and Rafe stay together. They have been through so much I know they can get through this. Once Hope cools down that is. Please keep this soap going for another 50 years. I’ve been watching since the beginning, hurried home from school to watch it.

Ciara is no Sami. She needs to take her acting doen a notch. She has been angry about something since she came on the show. And who the hell punches their cousin like that? YALL ARE FAMILY! Ugh. They need to watch some old tapes of Shawn/Belle/Chloe/Brady when they were teens. People also need to stop body shaming Claire her eyes are stunning!

Hi, Richard,
Ciara is Claire’s aunt, not her cousin. Shawn Brady ( Claire’s father) and Ciara Brady are full-siblings.
Yes, Ciara needs to contain her anger, but she is human….and, although, I don’t condone violence, Claire tends to get the best of Ciara, and, at least, a his viewer.
I like nuCiare—-the Ciara of old left as a lamb and returned as a lioness—claws and sparks galore.

In all honesty, Rafe wasn’t with Hope at the time, they had broken up, and it was just something that happened between him and Sammi – I’m not trying to be dismissive, but really, it was a one-time thing. I don’t quite see what the big deal is – except for the fact that it would have been better had the News come from him, not from an anorexic teeny bopper.

Matthew Ashford and Melissa Reeves Talk Return to DAYS for Doug’s Funeral, Susan Seaforth Hayes, and Their Enduring Friendship

Last week, Days of our Lives celebrated the taping of their 15,000th episode which is tentatively scheduled to air on December 3rd. The story will feature emotional and heart-tugging scenes of Doug Williams funeral and honor his portrayer, the beloved Bill Hayes, who passed away on January 12th at the age of 98.

While the actors, producers, and crew took a lunch time break to pose for some pictures and speak with the press, they knew they would have to get back to taping the funeral, which was going to make it a tough day, but also cathartic for all who loved Bill Hayes.

Several returns have thus far been announced including; Melissa Reeves reprising her signature role of Jennifer Horton (a part she first played in 1985), and Matthew Ashford as Jack Deveraux. Reeves had last appeared on the show back in 2021, and she was replaced by Emmy-winner Cady McClain in her absence when Jennifer was in storylines. In real-life, Melissa had moved full-time to Tennessee along with her husband, Scott Reeves (ex-DAYS, GH, Y&R). Now, and as previously reported, Reeves will first appear back on DAYS for the Thanksgiving episodes with the Hortons.

Michael Fairman TV caught up with Matt and Melissa during the 15,000th episode celebration to get their take on: being back for these special episodes, how it has been working with and watching Susan Seaforth Hayes portray Julie’s grief over losing Doug, and how they have supported each other through the years. Check out what they shared below.

Melissa, you are back on the set of Days of our Lives for this very emotional and special moment in the series history. How does it feel?

MELISSA: Oh, my goodness. I am honored. I wouldn’t want to be anywhere else but to be here for Bill. He was like my real-life dance partner. He taught me how to ballroom dance. And to be here for Susan, of course, who’s just been our sweet hero this whole week. We’re just following her lead. She’s just been this incredibly strong example for us in the midst of this trial and season of her life. She is like just lifting us all up with her. It’s been incredible.

I was at Bill Hayes memorial service which was truly incredible and I know at the time you were in Tennessee. It was moving and celebratory of his life, all at the same time.

MELISSA: That’s all I have heard. I have to watch it on You Tube. They said it was just a real celebration of his life and I love that.

This must be difficult for Susan Seaforth Hayes depicting the death of Doug, when she is still grieving the loss of her beloved husband. (Susan pictured above with the returning Stephen Schnetzer who plays her on-screen brother, Steve Olson).

MELISSA: I’m sure Susan has those moments at home by herself, but she’s so good at being a leader and leading all of us. We’re following her, you know, and she’s like, “This is how I want to feel today.” And we’re just going along with her, you know? It’s so sweet.

Photo: JPI

How is it to see Matt Ashford again live and in-person?

MELISSA: You know, Matt and I can go years without talking, or seeing each other, and then the minute we see each other we’re chatting away.

MATT: Melissa was out on set doing a scene yesterday on the phone talking to a stage manager; as she was telling some really tough news on the phone. I’m like crying in the background, literally, I’m off-stage crying.

MELISSA: And then we get like back into normal life, and we’re like, okay, “What’s happening? What’s happening with this … or what’s happening with that?”

I had read, Melissa, that you were in touch with Matt about if there night be a possibility for you to reprise your role as Jennifer for these special episodes?

MELISSA: Yes. Well, Matt was like, “Hey! Would you want to come back? “And I was like, “Matt, you know, I would always come back. ”

MATT:  Every time I come here to Days of our Lives, they ask, “Where’s Missy? How’s Missy?” Everybody backstage says, “I miss her.” All of the crew is asking about her and saying, “It would be nice to see Missy. Nothing wrong with you Matt, but …”  They said, “Where is she?” I said, “She wants to come!”

Photo: JPI

There are some beautiful photos of Missy and Bill and Susan thorough the years that I found. It just reminded me of just the deep and entrenched history we all have had with the show, personally and professionally.

MATT: Missy is roughly the age where Francis Reid (ex-Alice Horton) was when she started the show, which is just crazy.

Photo: JPI

I’ve always said Missy was going to be the next generation Alice. Do you feel that Jennifer is the heir apparent matriarch of the Horton family?

MELISSA: Yes. I mean, this has been greatest blessing of my life, and that would be great. I told Ken Corday (executive producer, Days of our Lives) when I was 17 that this show would be my life. Ken always told me, “This is your home,” and I’ve always felt like that.

How have gotten through the scenes watching Susan Seaforth Hayes as Julie go through the loss of Doug?

MATT: Susan is bringing her best performance life for her and Bill. I mean, she’s a showbiz baby. She always has been one hundred percent, and she’s doing it for him, and this is who they’ve always been. So, you’re seeing this amazing performance colored by her life. She has her private life as Susan, but she has enough plugged into Julie that she’s done amazing work. The director, producers and writers are giving her room to live in these moments and it’s quite wonderful.

Photo: JPI

Have you already broken down in tears during the taping?

MELISSA: Yesterday, but today’s taping of the actual funeral I think they want us to try and be just more celebratory.

MATT: I mean, it is a beautiful long life for Bill Hayes and his character of Doug Williams, and so it will be about that. Then, you get a bunch of us together in the church pews, and there’s going to be hijinks.

MELISSA: We all have been through the waves of grief. You have that awful cry and then all of a sudden you feel okay.  There are those family situations we are portraying where you’re like, “What do we do? What do we do now? You know, no one knows what to do. But, it’s so sweet. I’m looking forward to seeing how the scenes all turn out.

So, are you glad that Matt and Melissa are back for the 15K episode and Doug’s funeral? From what we can tell, it’s going to be quite an emotional journey for Days of our Lives fans, and especially the performance of Susan Seaforth Hayes,

Ron Carlivati Talks on Decision to Make Days of our Lives 15000th Episode About Doug’s Funeral, and Previews Chances for WGA Award

This week, Days of our Lives celebrated the taping of their 15,000th episode. In of it itself, that is an incredible accomplishment for the long-running soap opera currently streaming on Peacock.

However, this on set gathering was a bit different. Though the show is celebrating their achievement, they are also in the middle of taping scenes surrounding the death and the funeral of Doug Williams, played by the late Bill Hayes, who passed away on January 12th of this year at the age of 98.

As previously revealed many longtime favorites are back to honor Bill and the character of Doug including: Gloria Loring (Liz), Melissa Reeves (Jennifer), Matthew Ashford (Jack), Maree Cheatham (Marie), Victoria Konefal (Ciara) and Stephen Schnetzer (Steve) to name but a few.

Michael Fairman TV was in attendance and spoke with Days of our Lives head writer, Ron Carlivati to gain some insight into how the 15,000 episode was crafted and the decision to honor the character of Doug Williams and Bill Hayes as its epicenter. In addition, Ron weighed-in on this Sunday’s April 14th WGA (Writers Guild of America) Awards, where he and his writing team are facing off with General Hospital for the daytime drama prize. Here’s what Ron shared below.

Was this your idea to make the 15,000th episode centered around Doug’s funeral and passing?

RON: It was. When you’re looking at it, and laying out the calendar for the whole year and you see 15,000 is coming up, we’re like, “What are we going to do?” And then, we got the news that Bill had passed away and something kind of clicked. I was like, “We should honor Doug on that show.” So then, we started to kind of build around that … when does he pass away? How does he pass away? Who could come back? You know, it’s a lot.  I’m very pleased with the returns that we got as there’s so much that you could do. We wanted everybody we could get. So, we put together a wish list and Janet Drucker (co-executive producer, Days of our Lives) made it happen.

Photo: JPI

You have Melissa Reeves back as Jennifer, when the role was last played by Cady McClain. What has it meant to have Missy back for these shows?

RON: It was so nice to see Missy Reeves. I think Cady has done such a good job, but on the 15,000th episode to see Missy as Jennifer, it’s a big deal. So having her was great, and overall, the milestone was a big undertaking, because you want to live up to it. You want the 15,000th episode to be good. Now, it has a lot of real emotion that you’re playing. because for the cast and the crew they’re honoring Bill Hayes just as much as we’re honoring Doug Williams.

Photo: JPI

Was it hard for you and the team to write this episode?

RON: Yes. I’ll tell you why it was hard to write.  When I wrote, for example, Asa’s (Phillip Carey) death on One Life to Live or Victor’s (John Aniston) on DAYS, Asa is a different type of character. Like, you could have characters going, “Oh! I’m glad he is dead.” You could have different points of view, but with Doug, you’re not having that. Every person loves this man. No one had a bad relationship with him. So, you’re challenge as a writer is how do you make it that not everybody’s saying the same thing and doing the same thing. And so, we tried to find ways to make the episode about all the familial relationships and yet, how do you make it about Doug and yet broaden the scope.

Photo: JPI

I had spoken to Susan Seaforth Hayes (Julie), a week after Bill’s memorial, for an interview. She said that she felt very fortunate that you did include her on discussions of how you would tackle Doug’s passing. How did that conversation go?

RON: First, I attended Bill’s funeral, which was incredible. I said to so many people it was an emotional service, but it was hard to be sad at this. The guy had an incredible life and it was an incredible celebration. And so, you’re sitting there watching this knowing that you now have to write something similar. And how do you write something that lives up to what you just witnessed? I wanted to talk to Susan to get her thoughts about, you know, how much do you want this to be about keeping Bill separate from Doug. How comfortable are you sharing your grief. She was incredible to talk to. It was a great chat.

You’re in the middle of taping these major scenes for the 15,000 episode to air in December. How do you think it’s going? Have you seen any of the scenes?

RON:  I haven’t seeing anything. I mean, we were still making changes to the script up till this morning!

Photo: JPI

The Writers Guild Awards are this Sunday, April 14th and once again this year there are two daytime drama nominees, General Hospital and Days of our Lives. How are you feeling about your chances this year?

RON: It is often just GH and us in the category. I’ve won three years in a row, so I’m kind of feeling like it’s their turn.

Photo: JPI

What episodes did you submit for contention? If I recall, they had to do with Victor’s memorial.

RON: The episodes we submitted were centered around Victor’s funeral. I think one has story with Vivian (Louise Sorel). We had some fun stuff, we had some emotional stuff at Victor’s death, and I am pretty sure that our submission was three episodes right around that time.

Did you make the decision to go with those episodes because there was a mix of humor and drama?

RON: I like to have some humor, but it was also the funeral, then there’s Sarah (Linsey Godfrey) giving birth, and then Vivian’s crashing the reading of the will. So, we had a lot of fun and it’s hard sometimes to pick three that tell a story, as opposed to submitting for the Daytime Emmys, where the writing team only submits two shows. So, we shall see how it goes on Sunday.
