On Monday, Days of our Lives delivered to its longtime and enduring audience a spectacular 50th anniversary episode filled with so much high-drama that your blood pressure probably shot up a few notches!

The episode was not for the weak of heart, nor was it what you might have expected filled with a lot of people having heart-to-heart chats remembering the good old days. Instead, DAYS was firing on all cylinders with a riveting installlment that featured at its heart, the reunion of Bo (Peter Reckell) and Hope (Kristian Alfonso) in the most fraught circumstance.  As Aiden (Daniel Cosgrove) was choking the life out of his new bride, Bo comes bursting to save the day – the hero he always has been.  Aiden and Bo have a showdown of all showdowns culminating in Aiden’s death, thus ending the run of fan favorite Daniel Cosgrove.  When Hope comes to she sees Bo.  She is so emotionally overcome with having her life almost snuffed out, and seeing her longtime love that she is disoriented.

When Rafe (Galen Gering) arrives on the scene, Hope is taken to the hospital.  Bo goes to be with his “Fancy face”.   Meanwhile, Rafe is stunned that he missed clues about Aiden.  But could he truly be the necktie killer?  Rafe wonders.  During the hospital scenes, hankies were needed when Bo desperately wanted to be at his Hope’s bedside.  Waking up for a moment, Hope freaks out and thinks Aiden is hovering over her, but it’s Bo.  At the end of the episode, Bo climbs into the hospital bed with Hope.  So after three long years, Bo and Hope are reunited, of sorts.  Kudos to the outstanding work of Peter Reckell and Kristian Alfonso in the episode.

Elsewhere, Sami (Alison Sweeney) armed with information that EJ must be alive goes to see John (Drake Hogestyn) and Marlena (Deidre Hall).  She is determined to follow the clues that will lead her to EJ.  She also says EJ left her (in the safety deposit box he left her the key for) codes and passwords to bring Stefano (Joe Mascolo) and the Dimeras down.  Next Sami meets with the priest at the Brady Pub. He  gives her a special bible with marked sections that make it appear that EJ is contacting Sami from the great beyond.  Once she exits, outside she breaks down.  It was a touching moment played by  Sweeney.  Later, Sami in the shock of her life when Andre (Thaao Penghlis) has her kidnapped!  Is Sami being set up by the DiMeras? Will she find EJ alive somewhere?

Billy Flynn, also continued his emotional turn as Chad DiMera, as Chad tries to recall the circumstances that led him behind bars as the prime suspect in the necktie serial killing.   That was juxtoposed by the eerie performance by Rob Scott Wilson as Killer Ben who has Abigail (Kate Mansi) captured in the cabin, and is now wanting to make love to her.  Abby tries to deal with his seduction, but wants to get the fire poker behind him to knock him out.  As Ben releases her from handcuffs so they can have sex, he asks Abigail to say that she loves him.  When she does, he calls her a liar and violently pushes her away!  She is in major trouble.

Patch (Stephen Nichols) and Kayla (Mary Beth Evans) are struggling in their relationship once again, as Patch reveals someone is out to get him, and now they are coming after his family! Patch is devastated at what happened to Joey (James Lastovic), because of him, and Kayla asks him to stay away from her son, and from her,  for good!  This will obviously open up the next leg in the story for the return of Stephen Nichols!

So, what did you think about DAYS 50th anniversary episode? Better than you thought? Disappointed in some way?  Did you love seeing Bo and Hope together again? Upset that Aiden died such a violent death?  Creeped out by Ben?   Hoping EJ is alive?  Hoping Chad gets his memory back?  What performance did you enjoy the most? What a fabulous exciting enticing episode from DAYS. I finally caught up and watched it LIVE.
So cool. Making an effort all week to watch LIVE. Kristian Alfonso was brilliant, she needs to submit herself for Lead Actress and submit this episode for her reel. Rob Scott Wilson was equally brilliant, he better submit himself, too, for Younger Lead Actor. Happy 50th DAYS, keep up the note-worthy work. DAYS IS GREAT! more later…

Absolutely, Jeremy. Kate and Rob especially. My hats off to Kate. Here’s another example not to judge a book by its cover. Kate Mansi always turned me off…did not like her at all. But, man, oh man, what a transformation on both our parts. She is so real, I can’t get over it! Her entire being….mascara running down her face, disheveled hair, body language….just about everything bespeaks of awesomeness and can’t-do-any-better. Very focused. This girl/woman/actress has arrived. Congrats!
Chad revisits Ben. Deja-but? Will this confrontation awaken Chad’s dormant memories? Will this be the time when that tell-all bell will go off in his head, and remember everything?……that Ben is the real killer? Will Chad put two and two together, belatedly realizing that Aiden was a copy-cat killer used as a patsy ( by Andre’) in order to exculpate him?

Deja-vu. I must have retyped ‘vu’ a thousand times, but, autocorrect kept coming back as ‘but’ ….slipped right by me. Lol.

Jeremy, I agree with everything you say. Days is simply fabulous. I’m having such a great time watching and anticipating–just like the good old days.

Dena is that you?

Does this all mean Hope will have to return the ring and wedding gifts or can she sell them on ebay…well, it sure was a killer of a storyline…lol

She got married, didn’t she? Just because she was a newlywed and widow on the same night, I think she should get to keep the gifts after what she went through. Now it looks like she’s got another kid.

Lol, Mo. Jimh is kidding…..Jimmy’s humor is an established art.
By another kid, do you mean Chace? I hope so. If TPTB make Hope pregnant with Aiden’s baby, I will scream. Reminds me of Kristen. Wasn’t she pregnant at 55, or something? I seem to remember something like that.

Yes, I meant Chase.

That ring was atrocious! 🙂

Kristian Alfonso, Robert Scott Wilson, and Kate Mansi were all great! Please send Sami back to Zurich. I find it laughable that the character has not even mentioned her deceased son’s name once since returning to Salem. Out of sight, out of mind, I guess. The acting is just as I remember it-over the top and over played. Ridiculous. I’ve never understood the hype when it comes to the actress or the character.

THIS! In Salem time, Will died about a week ago, and already, Sami is so focused on EJ, it’s like she forgot she had a son. Granted, as a viewer we wouldn’t want her moping around 24/7, but some acknowledgement that it’s still a grieving period, despite having some good news. She’s just all smiles and excitement and EJ!

(guess Sami got the note from the NBC executives or DAYS tptb or whomever – the gays are off the screen, the one we have left is essentially now neutered, don’t mention them again and hopefully everyone will forget we were once proud to have them on the show. SHHHHH!)

Mike, I agree with you, and your parenthetical comments are insightful and cutting. In the last couple of years, the gays were frontburner. We had three main gay characters and at least one peripheral gay character in Derek. How soon will it be before Paul moves out of Salem? DOOL did a great job with their gay storylines, but they have evidently moved on…

I don’t know Sami never shown much interest in Will as a baby, child, teen or adult, so ignoring him in death seems par for the course for this character– she has always been self absorbed— that said a case could be made that she is focusing on EJ being alive as a way to avoid dealing with her loss with is too much too bear.

The show could be sweeping the death of Will under the rug like you said, but it could be nothing more than bad writing that doesn’t know how to weave previous stories threads into new stories which most soaps are afflicted with.

I’m thinking if she is kidnapped who is going to be watching her kids out in California or wherever she was living?

I think EJ arranged the kidnapping. Or, Stefano knew all along EJ was alive and he wants to see Sami. Would it be possible for EJ to have been in hiding with Andre all this time? Okay, I am overthinking everything, I admit it. Lol.

Oh, yeah, dmr. I’m glad somebody said what I was thinking! Lol.

Hi, Chrystie Delancey,
I thought Eve was acting strangely, as well. But, I just figured she’s in denial. Oh, yes, she is aware of her loss. But she is trying her damnedest not to dwell on her pain before it consumes her. Everyone mourns differently. I was actually describing the first few days after Paige died. But, as it always happens, I naturally put myself in that place. It has been three years for me, Chrystie…the pain is always there. But, I deliberately think of something else before I start feeling that tightness in the chest….and the tears start; such as right now.
This is only a soap, but, what Eve did, exemplified the true meaning of mourning for one’s child. Her pain came from the gut. I reached the point where I had to turn away. She was so good, so authentically real, I cried along with her.
My husband did not break down until after two months of our baby’s death. He had to be the strong one for me. I did not ask, but he subconsciously took the role. He is my rock. So, all his pain was repressed for a long time. Some people remain dry-eyed; become numb…so we can’t say how they truly feel.
Sami? That definitely was strange. It seems to me that TPTB are not very sensitive towards parents losing their children. Very odd, indeed, how Kassie was given free rein, but not Alison?
I also had this feeling that she did not want to be there. Later.

Have to agree with dmr on this. I like Sami, but she JUST lost her son, Will. I realize that the actors can’t forever dwell in misery but honestly, that isn’t reflecting true life at all.
At least, when we see Eve, the actress who plays her is “holding on” to the fact that she only just recently lost her daughter Paige. There is now always a hint of sadness in her once menacing performance.

Exactly. Prefect words, Tim Welles…”reflecting true life….”.
Nonetheless, if you visit the Y&R site, beware your head doesn’t get bitten off for stating a fact/opinion. It will be labeled as being negative. So thank you to you and dmr.
There’s no refuting the excellence of acting and directing of most of the actors……Rob and Kate stand out like no other. There are not enough adjectives to describe their respective performances. Hope, as well. But she is a seasoned actress…she should have given her all. Kassie? Why! I said all I could possibly say about her weeks ago. There’s no comparison to any of the actresses on Days. The woman just immortalized the grieving mother. And, believe me, I KNOW that pain intimately. It is part of my life. One never gets over losing a child, one learns to live with the pain……to cope! Eve/Kassie embodied the desperation and desolation a mother could ever experience.
So, these two young people Rob and Kate, surpassed what I had expected of them. They can only go forward….BRAVI.

I respectfully disagree regarding Eve. I expected her to be more torn up than she has been. I know I would if it were me. She needs to go through the guilt phase of being disgusting and pushing her daughter away, but instead she is sucking face with Justin at a wedding. Eh, that would not be me, for sure.

And as for Sami, yes, she hasn’t mentioned Will since the funeral. In fact, I thought it was horrible that after just learning her son died, that she could be pulled into EJ’s letter so quickly. It is as if Wil meant nothing to her. I DO find that odd.

omg!! i couldn’t agree with you more on sami – she was off on a plane to switzerland before they lowered will’s casket in the ground……………sad excuse for a grieving mother

I don’t believe they expected anyone would want to watch grieving for Will. The new writers’ had a palatable hatred for Will and the idea of gay families. Will’s death was the opening of their “celebration” – and they assumed that the audience would enjoy seeing the life choked from Will because they thought we hated him and would never forgive him. Straight males, however, can rape, steal, deal drugs…the list is long, and they will eventually win the day.

Why would Sami stop to grieve her gay son when one of her many husbands might be alive? Eve was allowed to grieve her daughter for a month, and Paige’s ex-boyfriend sat in the front row of her funeral, while Will’s husband sat in the second row of his.

@paul n. you are so on point – when sonny was at the cemetery he put the picture on will’s grave and when the wind blew it away it was the writers telling us that the gay storyline was over & done…………………..jmo

Its was great

A fantastic episode for sure, as have been previous shows but, admittedly, I’m feeling really deprived that there have been scant flashbacks to relish. Also, there was no special opening — like, perhaps, the full, unabridged theme; no special announcement, no mention of 50 years, folks. Tune in again tomorrow.

I agree…as much as the writing improved, this still not feel like a 50th celebration…there shouldve been more returns, flashbacks and the opening shouldve been more like the original with Happy 50th Days above the shows title…they also shouldve brought back the old closing credits..i always felt it gave the show a more dramatic effect…i knew Ciaras shoplifting moment was going to be a nod to the shows 1st episode…it wouldnt hurt to show that flashback even if a different actress played Julie…Susan Seaforth couldve said as an inside joke how different she looked back then!…There shouldve been more happy moments of reminscing to help balance all the gloom and doom…and short story arcs involving brief visits by past characters !

I’m not certain, but weren’t many of old episodes were taped over in the beginning of most soaps? If so footage of those scenes might not have been available.

I agree, they should have at least done the opening with all the different openings, they did that for Guiding Light but only when it was canceled and on the final episode and Emmy tribute. And yes they should have mentioned that it was the 50th anniversary.

That would be fun, wouldn’t it?

I loved it when they did that on OLTL and Blair had this funny look on her face after the flashback because they used the original Blair. Those are great little extras that reward you for paying attention and not fast forwarding. 🙂

I enjoyed it, just wish there was something at the end or even the opening credits to signal 50 years.

LOVED IT! But a one hour primetime special with flashback clips and interviews would have been perfect and fitting for such an occasion or even a half hour special preceding yesterday’s epi would have been appreciated. Not complaining, just commenting.

Other than a few typical soap oversights, like when someone is being strangled they are not getting any air so they cannot speak, so Hope wouldn’t be saying “No Aiden no” just before she loses consciousness–other than small things like that it was a great episode.

And kudos to the lighting team that did another outstanding job of adding to the mood of the show with their creative use of lighting design.

But honestly after witnessing another violent attack and killing, and with Ben’s treatment of Abigail I had enough of this dark stuff . So let’s hope they can move on and show me some other form of storytelling soon because this doom and gloom is not why I watch daytime dramas for– everything in moderation is okay, but this is getting too much.

Finally, congrats on reaching 50– that is a milestone very few television series have, and newer shows will most likely never have so good for them.

I agree with the lighting. And the score has been downright creepy and right up there with a critically-acclaimed cable show. I am ready for Chad to figure it all out … again.

It is horrible seeing a pregnant woman held against her will. That stress is horrible for the baby. Stupid Sociopathic Ben should know that.

Lol, Chrystie. Ben is a sociopath, indeed. He has no feelings, plus, he’s nuts. So, he does not know or cares how harmful this kind of stress means for the baby. This is very confusing to me because many a time Ben has shown both sympathy and concern toward Abby an his father. He is capable of ‘feeling’, so, I can only conclude that the writers do not do their homework when it comes to the criminally insane….actually any subject.

Had to reply her: about Days episodes…that Julie shoplifting scene is on utube and could be shown…i read somewhere Days is one of the few soaps from the 1960s that archived and still has all their episodes…others with their eps are The Doctors, Dark Shadows and Strange Paradise…P&G wiped the shows they produced up to the late 70s…the four soaps i mentioned were produced by others who saved their episodes…Y&R and Days were produced by Sony and they saved both these shows episodes…

Jimh, I’d pay to work where they have the DAYS episodes archived!

I’d protect those episodes with my life…while watching every single episode of the first 18 years. LOL!

Had to reply here, Mary.

Days of our Lives is archived in it’s entirety…Every episode is saved…If only I could get my hands on the episodes I missed out on!

Love the pace of the episode. Acting was spot on for all. Ben is really nuts (Rob is doing a fantastic job). I felt bad for Rafe, he thinks he missed something and that is why Hope was almost kille. Bo is back in only the way Bo can return. Felt so bad for Hope (Kristian. Is killing the role) high fives to the writers. Days is finally back on track.

Days is on fire right now i loik forward to watching every day. Especially after what we went through last year on Days. All the actors seem to be energized to the point where it comes out in their performances. KA, PR, KM, RSW, BF have all been delivering.

No episode can be all things to all people. This was top notch daytime drama, well written and expertly produced. Admittedly, Daniel Cosgrove and his character of Aiden were ill served by the turn of events, but it’s just one of those soap things. Overall, nice umbrella writing, great editing and stellar performances. I’m satisfied!

Your first sentence says it all, Mister Media…..in a nutshell.

I absolutely love that I don’t know what to expect. Days is not predictable! Can’t wait to see what happens each day–as it should be on a soap!

Clearly, we were treated to an outstanding episode!

What I find disturbing, however, is that, within the same hour, (1) Aiden has sex with Hope before attempting to kill her and (2) Ben is all over Abigail, stating he wants to “make love” but then physically threatens her. And on another side of town, in the park, Sami is physically abducted by Andre’s henchmen.

A mix of sex and violence toward women. With all the violence, I thought I was watching GH again (but that won’t happen anytime soon).

Just when I thought I wouldn’t witness a fight more violent than the one between Chad and Ben, we are “treated” to a violent fight between Bo and Aiden.

Two other things that bother me:
(1) It is a shame that the character of Aiden had to be villainized and killed off the show simply so that Bo could be brought back.
(2) Is it just me, or is there virtually no difference between the characters of DOOL Andre and GH Victor Cassadine? And both bore me to tears…

Hi, my dear friend,
As usual, you are so eloquently correct, Jamesj75. I love reading your posts.
The violence, from what I hear, was a bit much. I do not watch those parts as I find such scenes disturbing. My sister tried telling me, I told her to stop, but she’s so bad, lol, she kept going while I stuck my index fingers in my ears and sang, “la-la-la-la-la-…..” To think this is my eldest sister, James! A meanie, she is…LOL.
I had noticed, when we first became aware that Ben was, indeed, the strangler, that after a killing or after having had violent thoughts, Ben always wanted to have sex with Abby. I had mentioned that he derived some kind of sexual satisfaction or was a turn-on for him. These are the actions of the classically insane sexual predator. If he did not have Abby to get ‘it’ out of his system, he probably would have found a victim to rape. I do agree that these scenes are too graphic for my taste. But, many like this lurid stuff.
I don’t know about Aiden, albeit I always said he probably killed his wife himself. Obviously there are millions of unanswered questions….now that he’s dead, they will never be answered. Cowardly way of avoiding explanations by TPTB. How does one make love to his bride on his wedding night, all the while thoughts of killing her filled his head? Weak, weak man. Ben really is insane. But, Aiden? Not sure about this one.
Yes, the downgrading of, and violence towards women, showing them as weak beings where Prince Valiant comes to the rescue does give me pause, James. For shame, PTB. Haven’t we conquered that double standard? The exploitation? Hope did fight a good fight, I guess. She is a trained cop, but even with all that training, she was caught off guard. And, he had the superior strength.
Well, James; women are being set back a few decades, yes?
I am hoping that Abby proves us wrong and gets free on her own. A step forward, I would think. But, if TPTB want Chad to be the hero, then he will ‘rescue’ her and she will run, hands tied, to him, in slo-mo. As a good, little woman should….
Good Night, James. You are a most sensitive man towards women, in general. I truly respect that.

Hello CeeCee!

And, again, you’ve made my day! Thanks for your kind words. As you know, I thoroughly enjoy your posts, too!

I guess I’m not much a fan of violence, and it’s refreshing that you feel the same. You are right about Ben’s propensity to want sex after the killings. Yet for all these women in peril to simply be used sexually and treated so violently is degrading and insulting to women in general and to all viewers, frankly. Like you, I thought that, because of Hope’s training and experience as a police officer, she would be able to fend off Aiden’s attack. But what do I know?!?! I have never been in a position of being a police officer who is a victim of attempted murder by my spouse on my wedding night… 🙂

Sure, let the big, strong man come in and save the day… Let’s face it: Bo’s return home was as contrived as possible, only with him to arrive just at the same time that Aiden was attacking Hope. Not in time to stop the wedding, mind you, but in time to stop the murder.

Yes, there are many loose ends with Aiden, just as there were with Clyde’s exit. Speaking of which, do you think there might soon be a scene of Aiden’s son mourning his dad? I mean, they went to the trouble of aging Chase along with Sierra.

I started my earlier post by stating that the episode was outstanding. And I think that, in general, TPTB have done a great job of acknowledging the history of DOOL, as with Julie, Maggie, etc.

CeeCee, it’s great chatting with you. BTW: I’ll bet your sister is just as terrific as you are! Please take care, Friend. 🙂

“the downgrading of, and violence towards women, showing them as weak beings where Prince Valiant comes to the rescue does give me pause, James. For shame, PTB. Haven’t we conquered that double standard? The exploitation? Hope did fight a good fight, I guess. She is a trained cop, but even with all that training, she was caught off guard. And, he had the superior strength.
Well, James; women are being set back a few decades, yes?”

It is interesting to find that this goes hand-in-hand with the obliteration of the gays, the anit-gay agenda, the bad-end trope for gays, the cancellation of any positive imagery for gays (despite it previously having been established that Will and Sonny were good family people and good fathers), and the inability of Will (a muscular and fit, gym-going young man, who used to be shown hitting a punch-bag at the gym back when Days had a gym set, and who has already been shown fighting valiantly against a violent and armed attacker back in the day when Days was proud) to fight back when attacked by an unarmed man (whereas straight Chad can have a bloody duel lasting practically a whole episode).

Yes, so welcome to the Dark Ages of Our Lives, where women and gay people are both being set back decades! I find it interesting and striking to hear that the degradation of women is going hand in hand with the obliteration of gay people and positive imagery for gay people and the anti-gay agenda. Thank you for your post CeeCee!

@Stephen.
Hey, there.
Your reply has brought me to tears, Stephen. Your words are gold. Hit the spot.

@Jamesj75.
Thank you, James.
It’s funny how you describe Bo’s arrival at the nick of time, to be contrived. I had predicted that as soon as Andre plans to have Aiden kill Hope, were put into motion. Child’s play, yes? Ah, well. We still watch, do we not, LOL. what would we for without our soaps?
No, as yourself, violence of any kind and I do not get along. And, as I stated, how violence against woman is perpetuated.
Read Strphen’s post. He makes such a great point by equating the plight of women to that of gays….and, this, the 21st Century! Later, friend.

@Stephen.
PS. My son’s Godfather’s name is Stephen; and, he is gay. Are you he? Stephen, is that you? LOL. Does your surname start with a ‘P’? Lol.
You know, Stephen, I don’t even bother any more bringing up the obliteration of gays off the show. TPTB will do what they will.
I do miss Sonny and Will, albeit I was not a fan of Guy. I loved the concept of a happily married gay couple. But, this couple never got the chance to salvage thei marriage, or make an attempt to work things out. Never, in a million years, did I expect that Will would be killed. We don’t even see Paul anymore. Shame!!!! Later.

Thanks, CeeCee! and excellent points! Of course, my use of “contrived” is bizarre because — let’s face it — soap writing is by its nature contrived. But you know what I mean, and you could see where they were headed right away… I also enjoyed the conversation you’re having here with Stephen.

@Stephen. Sadly, I can’t reply directly to your post, Stephen, but you did a masterful job with your thesis relating the treatment of women and gays. Your description of Ben’s killing of Will versus the prolooooooooonged brawl between Chad and Ben speaks volumes. It was a sad and pathetic way for a former leading man to check out. Despite the current landscape for gays in Salem, I just hope they don’t resort to burning them at the stake. Literally or figuratively!

Hello CeeCee! Thank you for your kind words. I’m not your godson though! 🙂 But shout out to him! 🙂

You said: “I loved the concept of a happily married gay couple.” Yes! This! It would have been wonderful to see them go on, and meeting the challenges of life TOGETHER, as a TEAM. Days could absolutely have done this, and there could have been wonderful drama around them, as they faced the world together. It would have been uplifting and fun. Oh well, they’re alive in our heads at least. Freddie expressed an idea in his recent Afterbuzz interview that he would like there to be a comedy show with Will, Ari, Sonny, and Gabi. That would be really cool!

@Stephen.
Lol, Stephen. I don’t think you could be my Godson either. I was talking about my 6-year old son. HIS Godfather’s name is Stephen. Stephen is one of my best friends. We grew up together, and he is gay. His husband is a good friend as well. There are many who do not understand why a straight couple, such as my husband and I have gay friends. What does that tell you about people’s ignorance and closed-mindedness?
That comedy show does sound cool, doesn’t it?
I wish I knew what went on behind the scenes at Days. It bothers me to no end when a storyline, especially a gay storyline, is introduced and then it fizzles. I will never believe it was because many of us complained about Guy. But, it was about the actor, not the character. I am sure, TPTB could have continued to write for Sonny and Will….recast, if they must.
I think the fact that gays are still, in this day and age, not well received in soaps has everything to do with the eradication of the storyline. No Will, no gay storyline. Why introduce it in the first place? I also think it will be a long while until, another gay story will come to light. Shame!!

This reply is for Cee-Cee I’m snipping a quote that makes no sense, to me, from your post: ” I will never believe it was because many of us complained about Guy. But, it was about the actor, not the character.” You are contradicting yourself. I call bs on people blaming Guy, or as you called him ‘the actor’ for Will’s demise. For everyone of the haters out there, there was someone like me who liked Guy and liked his performance. So please, lets not go there with the blame game. Bottom line, GW did as he was asked and IMO did it well, it was Ken Corday, Greg Meng, Dena Highley and Josh Griffith that decided they needed to brutally murder a legacy character because he was gay and thought that it was the only way to bring back the viewers who quit the show over the last couple of decades. Even if Will does come back as a recast the show has lost me as a viewer. I’ll never accept Sonny and Paul in a relationship so that won’t bring me back to the show either. Days message was loud and clear, they don’t want me as a viewer so I’ll accept their message and turn the channel to something else.

@daisy.
Sorry, but it is not my problem if you do not comprehend or decipher my prose. I never blamed Guy for Will’s death. That’s utterly ridiculous and would be irresponsible of me. Therefore, do not throw stones. You have no idea who I am , …..who are you? Do not think that coming on here with a different name fools me?it seems to me, you are the hater. This is a free country. Do you ken the meaning of that? If not, then make yourself acquainted to the Bill of Rights. And, if the moderators are fair, this post should appear. I am so done with you Rebecca.
Where do you get off calling anyone a hater. I did not think the actor, Guy made a good Will. That is it. Had nothing to do with the character’s sexual preference. I like Chandler better. Is there a law against thst? You are the one with the issue. And, perhaps you should take a class in reading comprehension. Does not mean I hate him. This is my opinion. And, what the heck are you spewing?

Dont forget Bo brought back JUST yo save Hope and then die.

Thanks for the information, Eileen. I didn’t know that…

Big Australian interview of Peter broke online. I just said all along Bo was only going to be back for a short time, I didnt say anything until it broke.

Yes, Peter Reckell only agreed to come back for a few weeks to give final and permanent closure.

@Mary
I always knew Peter’s was a short stint. Nonetheless,I was picking my brain as to the reason….what would the writers fabricate? I honestly never thought they would kill Bo off. This fact threw me almost as much as Will’s death did.

I’m not a fan of Andre and his scene chewing. I know Days has had its cartoon moments in its history, but Andre is just tiresome and 1-note.

But you are absolutely on point with you comment about the sexualized violence toward women and the power it is giving the male villains. I’ll even point out that I think Will’s death was part of the pattern because it was all about Ben’s POV the idea that the audience would want to live vicariously through Ben’s punishment of the imperfect gay and a man who dared to feminize himself – nurture his child and be insecure.

They should really have just called it Sexism & Homophobia of Our Lives so we would have known what we were getting into.

It’s just awful all around.

Kaylie15, thank you for your reply!

First, thanks for addressing the Andre part of my post. It’s nice we’re in agreement.

“Sexism & Homophobia of Our Lives” — now, that’s a good one! 🙂
Kaylie15, your paragraph about the “sexualized violence toward women,” the murder of Will, and “Ben’s punishment of the imperfect gay” is chilling and accurate.

Finally, it’s all well and good to give kudos to a show that reaches a major milestone, but how it gets there and marks the occasion are important. The journey is now far from admirable, given the implicit “sexism & homophobia.”

I just love watching Thaao Penghlis in what ever role. What I miss is watching Andre and his dimwit lackey Bart chew the scenery together.

Jamesj75, I agree with you. I look at the show and I am just astonished that this is the tone they wanted to strike for a celebration that should have been all about positivity and the good strides soaps have contributed to over the years, but instead they’ve sent women and gays back to the 1950s or further. I can’t believe that Sony and NBC went along with it, but maybe they just figured it was going to be canceled anyway so why bother?

Absolutely! That’s one of the most chilling things about the entire serial killer mess – the fact that we are supposed to sympathize with Ben more than we sympathized Will. The really scary thing, is I’m sure that plenty of audience members thought Will deserved to die whether out of homophobia or self-hatred.

Glaad doesn’t hand out awards like the one Days accepted while planning for the death of Will and the complete destruction of Arianna’s family for fun. It hands out awards because even in 2015 it takes courage to portray gay people as human beings equal to straights. Obviously, the new writers didn’t have that courage.

Robert Scott Wilson and Kate Mansi carried the whole episode. I find the Bo and Hope reunion manipulative. And so boring. How many times can he utter the phrase “fancy face” over and over until we need barf bags for cabin sickness. Patch and Kayla are yawn inspiring as he uses the old 80’s theme of protecting his family from a secret. That story line is more overused than who’s the daddy? I agree with what the commentator above said about Sami. She doesn’t even give a crap about her son’s death only that E.J. might possibly be alive. And now she is kidnapped by the DiMearas? I get it, the DAYS folks want to grab attention for 50 years. They did that. I just don’t think they need to retell stories of old all over again. Here’s what we need: Get rid of all those new teenagers who have nothing to add. Utilize core characters like Victor and Maggie and his sidewalk Sally – Caroline. At least Maggie (Suzanne Rogers) can act. How Victor could even pine for Caroline is beyond me. Have Patch killed at the Brady pub while scooping out Caroline’s tainted macaroni salad. The killer can be Andre. He happened to poison the batch while trying to knock out John Black. Let John Black find his missing family and go live with them on Sesame Street and he can marry one of the girl puppets. Marlena can open her practice at the retirement home. Sean D will leave Belle behind and have an affair with Paul Norita when he realizes that Belle has been carrying on with Theresa behind his back. Nicole and Kate will plot to off Brady Black and instead find a cure for Alzheimers at a fashion show in Milan. Now here is what I call high drama. C’mon now, if Satan could invade Salem then my plot devices would work as well. Let’s make DAYS worth watching and get rid of the dead weight. I am so looking forward to Dr Dan’s demise. Let’s hope it’s Jennifer who does it so she can be sent to maximum security prison and start a chain gang with Anne Milbauer.

While agree that Mansi and Wilson were both top notch, I disagree with your perception of Bope…Reckell may be subpar, but Alfonso was totally Emmy worthy on Monday!

Your entire post is ridiculious from start to finish.

Some of us have a sense of humor in our dislike for a story line and others have no sense of humor and do not understand sarcasm and dry wit..I am certain I know which side you fall in

Why go into fantasyland, isnt the real storyline good enough for you?

You are missing the point, as usual. Mateo’s writing is exemplar in expressing how these writers see Sami as a mother…what are we, the fans to think? As I told the person who calls herself ‘daisy’…..some people need lessons in reading comprehension. Mateo is a wonderful writer. If you do not agree, tell him the reasons; do not insult him. I disagree with many posters, but I would never say they are wrong and I am right. That’s a very cynical attitude, n’est-pas?
He definitely did not swerve from the storyline; IT is already in fantasyland. No, the storyline should stick to reality, it is not real. If you think it is, then, you are the one in fantasyland. It started out great….very suspenseful, albeit graphic and gory….now it is a fantasy.

“[Sami] doesn’t even give a crap about her son’s death only that E.J. might possibly be alive.”

Given the history of these three characters on the show, that is so, *so* offensive. And whatever you say about Sami, she totally loved her children, and she loved Will “no matter what”, “to the moon and back”.

Ugh, I stopped watching with the decimation of Will. I find it all revolting. The whole “Chad’s the killer” storyline has been unrealistic and unbelievable from the start! Half the town saw when Chad stepped in front of a bullet to save a man – and so they all KNOW that he is a hero without concern for his own life, not a cold-blooded killer! And yet the whole town is shown as thinking that “Chad is the killer”, to the extent that Sami is shown so totally swallowing the “Chad’s the killer” nonsense that she tries to murder the defenceless comatose Chad in his hospital bed, before he can have the chance to defend himself and before an explanation of events can be found, and despite the fact that it was *Chad* who took a bullet to save her husband’s life, to save the beloved father of two of her kids, and that Chad is also a loving uncle to Johnny, Sydney, and Theo, and a long-time friend of Will’s no less, and the trusted business partner of his husband! It’s awful, awful writing, that makes me want to vomit! Given the damaging “group think” that led to the Iraq war which has released IS on the world, and the so-recent demonisation of Amanda Knox, who so many around the world just assumed guilty – because that was the absurd narrative that was being shoved down the world’s throats – it is disappointingly irresponsible for Days to do the same thing to Chad, and not have their characters demonstrating the goodness of skepticism and free-thinking independent and rational thought! It is a mark of EXTREMELY poor-writing when the characters cannot be given independent and rational thought, else the plot would fall apart!

Also, the writer’s unashamedly made it that NONE of the people of Salem were allowed to see the ridiculously OBVIOUS connection between Chad being almost beaten to death by Ben in Ben’s apartment, and Will being last seen alive in Ben’s apartment! I mean f-f-s this is insultingly stupid, and showed that that plot wasn’t about drama and good story-telling, it was only about the ground-zeroing of Will. For me, this irrevocably shattered my ability, and desire, to indulge in the make-believe of the show. It’s not make-believe any more – it is fake-believe! A Days without Will, and where Will has been taken out by such nasty and unbelievable means, is a fiction I never will want to, or even can ever, entertain. The hour-glass has been shattered, and it’s like Days deliberately smashed it on the floor!

And for shame, Days, that you have comprehensively devalued and trashed the truly wonderful and character-driven era of the show when Will struggled through his arrival into adulthood, and then came out, and fell head-over-heals in love with Sonny, and married him. Now *THAT* was great character-driven story-telling, where plot sprung from the characters, and we were engaged in their real heartfelt drama, which meant something and was courageous and good.

You made some valid points. I am very vocal about my horror at what they did to the gay community on DAYS by eliminating all the characters with one click of the keyboard. Killing off Will Horton was one of the most horrific decisions daytime television has ever made. It may as well have been a gay bashing murder. That’s what the writers “voiced” by taking all issues that they addressed so bravely in the past and then decimated with no thought. Now Salem is gay free. Now they can be accepted by the middle of the country again. The details that were glossed over in the murder story line on DAYS is typical when new writers come in who have zero knowledge of the history of the show. They write from a limited perspective. So the direction of the story is always based on future not on the past. Sad because character history is so cherished by viewers. Unfortunately when production changes and cast changes are made by new writer regimes we lose that history. Thanks for speaking your views so intelligently.

I’ve just been completely horrified at a show that I enjoyed so much taking such a dark and sadistic and sexist turn.

Hope had to become Aiden’s dupe so that Bo could rescue her? Why was this necessary? I felt so terrible for Daniel Cosgrove and the fans of Hope/Aiden who seem nearly as hurt as us Will and Sonny fans were at their systematic destruction.

The show also seems to be lionizing Ben as some sort of sexual anti-hero – that he’s there to put women and gays in their place (misbehaving ones must die, after all!) and we’re expected to sympathize more with Ben that we ever were with Will. Let me say that again, I think the writers believe that viewers are more likely to love and forgive Ben than they were Will for his minor sins, and my heart breaks to think that that might be true.

The new writers seem to think that women or “feminine” men are weak and unintelligent – and need rescue and that there is pleasure to be taken in their deaths.

Writers Dena Higley and Josh Griffith know DAYS very well, Mateo.

Dena Higley has held different writing positions at DAYS since the 1980’s. It’s also fairly known that Josh Griffith has been a DAYS fan (He’s a huge Kayla fan) since the 1980’s.

Their love for DAYS is showing. They turned the show around very quickly!

DAYS is on fire!!!!!

Yeah, like burning to the ground on fire! Smh…

Josh Griffith also loved Y&R and he was fired from that show within a few months…so a love for any show is not an indication that he is writing well. Dena Higley is also on a temporary leave from the show so she is out. DAYS isn’t on fire. It’s merely showing off some sparklers to get people to tune in but eventually they are going to have to follow through and quite seriously I just don’t see that happening. It’s okay to honor older characters but rehashing the same stories over and over – Bo and Hope, Patch and Kayla, John and Marlena – is a tedious boring device to do it with. Honor but be relevant and current. This isn’t the 80’s anymore. We have all moved on.

Are you kidding me?!? Higley and Griffith are the worst writers ever!!! They make TomSell look like Oscar winning writers and TomSell’s last six months the writing was really bad. After hiring the new writers and killing off the gay icon and double legacy Will Horton, I think Corday wants his show to be cancelled!!!

The new Days is surely on fire, with hatred of gays and women and contempt for the audience who stuck with it for the last few years. I truly feel sorry for the actors who have to be a part of this dark, gruesome mess and had to promote it.

Watching people in their 50s & 60s act out a pale retread of their heyday is just uncomfortable. If the story had been written with any sense or respect of the passage of time, that would be one thing, but it’s not written that way.

I don’t want to see 70 year old Robert Plant squeeze into leather pants and sing Stairway to Heaven like he did in his twenties, and I don’t need to see Days actors pretend like its 1985.

However, if they did want to go back to the 80s, they could have remember that the show was more progressive in terms of writing about women than it is now. In the 80s, rapists and serial killers and other assorted career criminals weren’t supposed to be sexy.

You seem to have missed my point. Josh Griffith has been a fan of DAYS since the 80’s.

He was a writer for Y&R, but loved and loves DAYS!

You continue to down the older characters/performers of DAYS, but the truth is most viewers like having many vets to follow for several years. There’s also some great younger characters!

Throw yourself into DAYS hot lava!!!!!

“Most viewers”? Who exactly are these viewers? How do you know what most viewers like? I like following both older and younger characters. I watched years ago and then came back to the show for the younger characters of Will and Sonny. I was also very fond of Chad — Billy Flynn is wonderful. But I don’t like watching old-fashioned sexism and homophobia being glorified either. The symbolism involved with Will’s murder — the garbage bag, Sonny sitting in the second row at his own husband’s funeral, Sami worried more about EJ than Will’s death — disgusted me. So, no thank you, I have no interest in that particular form of “hot lava.”

The Days of recent definitely have been headed in the direction of the Days of old! The Haiden/Bope storyline and the Ben/Abby storyline got my heart beating fast in anticipation. THAT’S what the Soap is supposed to do! I was a little disappointed in Sami’s story but hope it heats up in the next few weeks. LOVE, LOVE, LOVE the friendship between Bo and Patch. They’re both funny and serious together! I’ve missed that relationship. I also miss the fun that Jack and Jennifer used to bring to the screen when they were working together years ago. Matt’s storyline didn’t do him justice. He should’ve been at the 50th as he’s been an important character in Salem. We, the fans definitely needed some excitement in Salem after the boring stories we’ve seen since Patch, Bo, Jack, Sami & EJ have left the show! Keep these stories coming. You’ve got alot to live up to now!!!

I meant Matt’s last storyline!

KATE MANSI (as Abigail) should be nominated for a Daytime Emmy. At no point do I ever that she is “acting” but rather, a young gal who has made some poor choices and seems to be in constant peril.
Some of the other storylines are, you know, all right – but I find the tension between Ben and Abby to be the most compelling at the moment.

Death and despair; love and laughter…Days of our Lives.

These are some of the best DAYS of my life!

Incredible excitement!!!!!

Don’t you have anything better to do with your time than post internet comments, Mr. Corday?

I just love days its one of the shows that made me fall in love with soaps in the first place.

Exciting and action packed!! Thats what days is and should always be.

The acting and writing was superb both Friday and Monday. Kudos to the producers and everyone involved. But I was disappointed that the momentous anniversary was not acknowledged in any way. On the 45th anniversary, Suzanne Rogers introduced the episode in a ten second opening, noting the occasion. I couldn’t believe we didn’t have that. I wanted to see the full thirty second theme that has been gone for years. I thought it would be cool as a throwback to, just once, again here the announcer say, “This is Macdonald Carey, and these are the Days of Our Lives.” Wouldn’t that have been a memorable way to mark the special episode?

I’ve watched 30 of the 50 years and the 50th anniversary has been so disappointing!! More flashbacks please and real drama not just killing and fighting!! Very predictable so far. 🙁

Let me start by saying DAYS and GH are both amazing right now…easily the best two hours of television for me. Crazy that the two lowest rated soaps are the two most entertaining for me… GH aside though this is a DAYS article… Kristen Alfonso really can deliver some freaking awesome performances sometimes and this week she has done just that…simply amazing! Kate Mansi has also come such a long way since joining the show. She continues to knock it out of the park… Billy Flynn, WOW! I really thought a recast of Chad was a bad idea, but Flynn continues to make this role his own, no offense to Casey Deidrick!

I didn’t like all the violence that took place. However it brought some umph and pow to Pete’s return. I think I would have prefered a nice family BBQ. Still loyal and happy with the show and have faith in where they are taking us.

Amazing performance on 11/09 by both Daniel and Kristian – congratulations! I am loving the show right now, it is the best it’s been in YEARS. Each day I can’t wait for the next episode and weekends became hard to bear, haha! I totally adore Stephen Nichols and Mary Beth Evans, please please please – let Steve and Kayla get back together – they are golden. Looking so much forward to see the storylines evolve for all, especially John and Marlena, Steve and Kayla, Abi and Chad and more.. THANK YOU NBC and Days for this amazing revival of the real Days spirit.

I would love to see Days knock Y&R off it’s number 1 pedestal.

Yeah, and I want world peace. I’ll probably get what I want before you! No Will No Guy No me!!!

I feel very left out. It started with all the misery of Paige’s death, though KDP rocked it. Then came the terribly hateful end to Will and his family. Then they retcon of Aiden. The torture of Bo. The callosusness of so many characters. I am not sure if the writers are nasty human beings or just think the viewers are but this show is cruel and joyless. It does not resemble the Days I once loved.

I had very high hopes for this show’s 50th, but I can’t believe I am watching anything other than a suicide mission. Days of Our Lives – even when it had serial killer stories in the past – had its tongue firmly in its cheek. Now, it is just a dark, depressing affair with no joy, no light and homophobia and sexism to boot. I feel like the writers truly despise anyone who enjoyed anything on the show that happened between Dena Higley’s last stint and this one. It’s like they purposely wanted to get rid of viewers.

The only think I can say is that I’m very glad that Guy Wilson and Daniel Cosgrove are off this sinking ship of doom and gloom even if it was not by choice, and Kudos to Guy for helping raise over 100,000 for an AIDS charity instead of helping rearrange deck chairs on the Titanic.

I find the aggression against anyone who happened to like the show in the last few years, including the inclusion of a beautiful gay wedding and gay family, outright bizarre. Nothing Will did was unforgivable or unredeemable, but thanks to some horrific and hateful trolls, I’m sure the show thought the audience would be cheering for Will’s violent and gruesome death. It just goes to show that you can’t listen to the meanest a-holes on the internet. I’m so proud of Guy Wilson for raising all that money for charity with his marathon run. I particularly miss Will’s onscreen relationship with his daughter, and I just am sickened to think that the show assumed that whomever their audience was, they wouldn’t tolerate gay fathers so Will had to die and Sonny had to abandon Arianna. I can’t even stand to look at all the images of Arianna now “safe” in the hands of straight characters, most of whom did worse than Will ever did.

In may not be as politically awful, but the destruction of Haiden and disrespect to fans of the Haiden ship was totally unnecessary.

Yes, this “celebration” is joyless and hateful and mean, and I will not be at all surprised when the show is axed. It’s awards from groups like GLAAD and the Emmys kept it alive, they the show chose to devalue that and court the worst impulses of its audience.

i so agree that the destruction of haiden and disrespect to fans of the haiden ship was unnecessary & it was all done because a fan favorite was returning…….. now the actor this was all done for has already left the building……………….

You know what was missing from the day’s 50th celebration? Will and a happy reunion between WilSon.

Highley and Griffith uninvited me to the party when the murdered Will, trashed Sonny’s character and destroyed one of the most beautiful relationships that we saw bud and them bloom on the show. HighGriff made it very clear that the fans of Will Horton and the fans of the gay sl were no longer welcome.

I totally agree. Will was treated with far less respect than Paige or Serena, who were not beloved legacy characters. Will was treated like trash, and you could just feel that the writers expected to be loved and applauded for the destruction of not only Will but the gay family. The pandering was so obvious that it makes me sick to think about it.

Meanwhile, Will and Sonny’s wedding is continually being cited as one of the highlights of 50 years and a landmark event in not only daytime television but all television. It’s such a shame that the show tainted that legacy to kick off its celebration.

Bless Guy Wilson for his class and grace. He dealt with vicious homophobes on one side and nasty – some truly insane – trolls on the other and yet he did his job well to the bitter end, kept the secret and still speaks no ill. He’ll land on his feet, while I’m sure everyone who rubber stamped the destruction of the landmark gay story will end up exactly where they deserve to go.

I love everything that’s happening on Days right now. I hope they keep up the good work. Hope can send Chase to live with his aunt.

Why on earth with all the nasty, horrible, things going on around all of us, would the writers of Days give us Bo and Hope back again . A fantasy fairytale of two people. As a well adjusted parent I can’t even imagine why they would pull Peter and Kill him off when we just got him back. Ratings are one thing but give us hope and fantasy with the two artists that portray love.

Days has been so much better! There is nothing like the Bromance of Steve and bo. All are great with the exception of the weak link Sami crap

Days of our Lives Star, Greg Vaughan, Gives Health Update and Thanks Everyone for Their Support

Greg Vaughan (Eric, Days of our Lives, ex-Lucky, GH, and ex-Diego, Y&R) provided an update on his health on Sunday, March 17th. Vaughan had previously shared that he had become ill during a trip with his sons to Colorado, and had developed altitude sickness when he was having trouble breathing accompanied by terrible headaches and landed in the urgent care.

Now on St. Patrick’s Day, Greg took to his Instagram and shared how he is feeling now, and to thank everyone for their love and support.  As it turned out, Vaughan was diagnosed with high altitude pulmonary edema, commonly known as HAPE. However, he is on the mend slowly and surely.

In his new video post, the DAYS favorite started by expressing, “I just felt such an appreciation and gratitude for everything. . reaching out. Your prayers have been felt. It’s been a struggle, but I’m over the top. And, taking this moment just to say I didn’t realize the things that I was going through. My (original) post was simply just to educate, put some information out there and some things that I was feeling, just share that information and the struggle that I was going through, which I didn’t quite understand. And it wasn’t because I’m stubborn or just because I’m a father, a man, and didn’t want to go to a doctor. It is just something I thought was so minor that I could overcome it, just by taking care of myself.”

The Daytime Emmy winner then revealed his actual diagnosis, “So, basically my situation was high altitude pulmonary edema (HAPE). With some good friends, doctors that had reached out to me, it kind of gave me some understanding on the aftermath, which was very, very beneficial.”

“But I’ve been resting, taking care of myself even though I live in a hamster wheel,” said the dad of three teenaged boys. “I gotta get up and, you know, do my normal domesticated stuff, eventually. I’m tired of laying down in this bed, but, I am feeling much better.”

Photo: GVaughanIG

Talking on his confusion of trying to understand what could have been ailing him, Vaughan expressed, “I couldn’t quite figure it out, even though I was emphasizing and professing to my children going on our spring break getaway about hydration. I professed it. But, even though I was acting on it, it had a greater effect on me, and for which I did not even think, because my head was such in pain, and I was in a very bad state of mind – not being able to be out there with my kids on the mountain, enjoying their time, as well. I thought I was doing the right thing. Unfortunately, my lungs were full of fluids and my head was in severe pain and even migraine pills didn’t even help. So, I just want anybody that goes into the Colorado Mountains to know, it is no joke. It is this very serious thing which I guess is why they call it the Mile High City.”

Greg had a mountain of ‘thank you’s’ to give for the outreach he received from his original post, “For everybody internationally, wherever you are, I love you and I appreciate you and just the time and the thoughts that you’ve shared with me,” said Vaughan. “I didn’t realize that it would make such an impression on so many people around the world. I feel tremendously loved and I can’t say it enough. I’m good. And I appreciate you.”

Photo: GVaughanIG

The actor concluded his video with, “To all the family and friends that have reached out to me, man, it means the world. So take care of yourself, enjoy your spring break with your families. It’s Saint Patty’s Day, obviously. I wish I could be out there.” Vaughan added, “I feel loved and touched and I can’t emphasize that enough. I’ll take better care of myself, promise you will do the same.” Before he signed off, Greg shared, “Just know, that I’m alive and well and breathing, and I’m sore. So, be well, take care. I mean it. Thank you, tremendously.”

Glad to know that Greg has been on the mend, and shared his appreciation for everyone that reached out to him during this trying time? Comment below.

Scott Evans, host of Access Hollywood and the Peacock reality series Couple to Throuple, will make a guest appearance this week on Days of our Lives.

Circle the Thursday, March 21st episode of DAYS for Evans’ arrival in Salem. During his tape date last fall (since DAYS tapes months well ahead of when episodes actually stream), Scott posed for a snap alongside Mary Beth Evans (Kayla), Jackée Harry (Paulina), James Reynolds (Abe) and Greg Rikaart (Leo).

Teasers for the 3/21 episode of DAYS share that Leo tries to come up with his next gossip column, and Paulina and Abe return home to a mini-celebration set up by Johnny and Steve. Will Evans pop up in one of those scenarios? Stay tuned.

Days of our Lives Star Greg Vaughan Shares Sudden Health Scare: “I Truly Feel Like I Work & Live in a Soap Opera!”

What started out as an adventure with his sons, quickly turned into a nightmare for Days of our Lives Daytime Emmy winner, Greg Vaughan (Eric Brady).

In a series of Instagram posts, Vaughan shared the sudden health crisis he found himself in.  The images show Greg with an oxygen tank to help him breathe.

The actor began to fill people, sharing, “I’ve said more than a few times, I truly feel like I work & live in a Soap Opera! 🤪 this trip was nothing short of another great Vaughan adventure!”

He went on to say that on a father and son Colorado spring break trip, he began to feel shortness of breath, feeling tired and with a headache and after two days of hoping he would feel better, Vaughan finally went to an Urgent Care to get checked out.

Photo: GVaughanIG

“I finally surrendered & went to urgent care and to my shock I learned that I was experiencing severe altitude sickness.” Vaughan admitted. “My Blood Oxygen was at 54% & my lungs were full of fluids! Blood oxygen, also known as oxygen saturation, represents the percentage of hemoglobin in your red blood cells that is carrying oxygen. Most people have an oxygen level of 95-100%….”

Providing more detail to his health scare, Greg shared, “Well, 4hrs later, a couple of bags of IV & oxygen tank strapped to my face, I was told that I needed to immediately get off the mountain! However I couldn’t, we still had another day to go & wanting the boys to enjoy their last day on the hill tops! I opted to go home with an oxygen tank, a good laugh for everyone, and I know will follow, but my boys looked after their old man & fortunately they had friends on this trip!”

Photo: JPI

The experience of altitude sickness in the Colorado Rockies gave Vaughan a bit of a new perspective, “In all seriousness, no matter your age, and all the times I’ve ⛷️ & 🏂 in my lifetime, Colorado Rockies is no joke! As they say, ‘ take a breathe and smell the roses!’ That is truly something we need to remember & appreciate! #recover”

Share your well-wishes to Greg as he continues to be on the mend via the comment section below.
