DAYS OF OUR LIVES: John ‘Unmasks’ Kristen In Great, Soapy Cliffhanger

If you caught Thursday’s episode of Days of our Lives, head writer Ron Carlivati and company served up a juicy, soapy, delicious reveal to the duped folks of Salem! The backdrop? Of course, … John (Drake Hogestyn) and Marlena’s (Deidre Hall) surprise wedding anniversary party where at the same location a year ago all hell broke loose … as it has now a year later!

In story. after putting all the pieces together in a montage of flashbacks and moments, John Black is the guy (and Kristen’s ex) who figures that Kristen (Stacy Haiduk) is at the Jarlena party in disguise, but as who?  Through recalling … what “Nicole” said to him, what Abe (James Reynolds) mentioned to him – that since Nicole (Arianne Zucker) came back to Salem she’s been like another person – and Kate (Lauren Koslow) mentioning how Maggie swore she saw Kristen, not Nicole, when Maggie went off the wagon, but no one believed her, things were coming clear to John!

And that to the fact that Eli (Lamon Archey) received a call from Xander (Paul Telfer) who swears he has been working for Kristen DiMera, and Hope (Kristian Alfonso) reporting that bit of news to John, he is hit with the major revelation.  After touching speeches by John …and as Marlena delivers hers about the man she loves, the duo share a kiss, but then John stops “Nicole” and Brady (Eric Martsolf) from leaving the party!

What happens next is soap gold! John grabs “Nicole” and rips her hair and mask off.  Next, Kristen flips back her hair and reveals herself to the party-goers and it looks like it’s curtains for Kristen … as everyone is stunned by the bombshell and we fade to black.  The pick-up of this great cliffhanger was today (Friday), more on that later.

Loves it! I love Stacy Haiduk as Kristen!!! (and Susan, too)

It always makes me laugh…when Kristen puts the mask on…she is suddenly curvier and more um…zaftig? Buxom. Then she takes the mask and POOF…she is suddenly skinnier, less chesty, less curvy. This mask alters body shape too? Can we please please be done with masks and doppelgangers please?!?! Ron has to have more up his sleeve than that…he did that story for three years straight during his GH tenure. It just makes all the characters look like freaking morons!! Jim Reilly has left the building…and hopefully Ron will too!

Yes, the story is very cartoonish. I haven’t watched a full episode of DAYS in months.

DAYS fans finally see why GH and OLTL fans frequently referred to him as Re-Ron.

That mask is flawlessly stretched to her cleavage, which is how large that prosthetic should be. It should take hours to put on AND take off. Not carelessly left laying around and quickly donned as the dramatic moment warrants. Kristen was flawlessly made up and coiffed when John struggled valiantly all of two seconds to unmask her. She should have had massively slicked back hair under a bald cap. Not only that. She should have lost skin, been marked up and bleeding. Idiocy.

LOL, Colin—-I said much the same thing, days ago–Ari has curves–Venus de Milo compared to Olive Oyl. And, Kristin is noticeably shorter than statuesque Nicole. You’re right—gotta laugh, my friend…
Rumor has it Sarah is pregnant. I hope it’s Xander’s—poetic justice—can’t stand her—I cringe at this flighty, volatile character.—predictably unpredictable–messed up woman.
Poor Xander, if true—
Sarah and Eric ( the broken-hearted, tortured anti hero) belong together. What a pitiful couple–boring!! As bad as Jason and Sam ( GH).
Now that Nicole is alive, will she go running to Rex?
Yes, you bet, Colin—bunch of moronic characters—bunch of moronic penners.

Have not watched in years but in Ron’s defense all writers do it repeat stories from one soap to another ! Daytime is suffering nobody is catching on maybe they are trying to get rid of them?

Boy, this SL has made me almost hate Nicole. I hope I can forget her rendition of this imposter, when we get the old Nicole back.

Hi, 4ever—
As unrealistic as Days can get, I, too, am looking forward to the search for Nicole and Holly—
Soooo glad for Vivian’s “return”– I know it’s not in the form of Louise Sorel, but Robin Strasser is more than the best substitute.
Also, for the umpteenth time—-Julie is NOT Ciera’s grandmother. She is her aunt. Hope and Julie are sisters—-Addie Horton’s daughters. Long-time fans, as my grandmother, truly get bent out of shape (LOL) when TPTB try to re-write soap-history.
I suppose we can consider Julie Ciera’s step-grandmother, as she is married to Doug.
Later, my friend❤️

I think I have hit my limit with doppelgänger storylines. In the past few years, Marlena/Hattie. Adrienne/Bonnie, Nicole/Kristen have monopolized the show. Can we get back to realistic storylines. I was not a fan of Jim Reilly’s writing, but he often included “super couples” in with the zaniness. All of the characters involved in the Nicole/Kristen storyline has been written to not recognize someone they have known for years. Is Brady so stupid that the only thing he noticed about Kristen was that she had her tattoo removed? How about her entire body is completely different?

There are too many characters that leave me wondering “What’s next?” Since Ted died, what is next for Hope? Can we talk that she barely acted shocked when she was told he was dead. With Jennifer and Jack, so much time has passed and damage done to their relationship, I have to wonder why Jennifer could still be attracted to him. Jack’s return from the dead (another storyline that has been overdone) has made him the least attractive character on the show, with no rooting value.

I am shocked that Tripp is leaving on the heels of Stephen Nichols coming back? Seriously, is there nothing that could have been written for Tripp with his father coming back? How about bringing back Stephanie and the great set where Kayla and Steve lived a few years back.

Ciara needs a career. I feel like all she does is follow Ben, sit around his room or lay in bed. How about a job at Gabi Chic as a model, followed by a stalker/obsessed fan storyline? With Claire and Tripp leaving, will Ben and Ciara have any friends?

The worst mistake DOOL is making is letting Stefan leave the show as Chad/Abigail return to the show. I would love to see the Chad/Abigail/Gabi/Stefan dynamic fall out.

Another set of characters needing a storyline are Marlena and John. There is too much history involved to let them act like 20-something lovebirds. There Hallmark card dialogue sometimes makes me roll my eyes. Most 60-something year olds do not act/kiss like J&M.

I would also love to see more Maggie and Julie. I enjoyed Maggie the most when she was the go-to mother figure for Melanie, Chelsea, and that generation of characters. Julie is equal to Victor in throwing out hilarious one-liners.

So, in review, less doppelgänger and back-from-the dead storylines and more intrigue and story development.

I agree with just about everything you said, I have often wondered myself why Ciara has nothing to do but chase after Ben or get in trouble. I watched a little of Abby and Chad in Paris, and sorry to their fans, but they are as boring as ever. They made a big mistake letting Marci Miller go.I had read a long time ago that Trip was leaving soon after Claire, and John Aniston may be leaving soon, due to age and health issues. I will miss that old curmudgeon. Am not a big fan of Maggie or her silly daughter.Hopefully Steve’s return will spice things up.Too bad he can’t bring back Joey.True, your remark about the 20 something lovebirds. I would say 50 something though. Also love Julie. She may be having a new SL coming up. Are we sure Stefan is leaving? He and Gabi are supposed to be the new super couple, but don’t know how super they’ll be with Kate moving in.

Celia
Celia

Stefan is leaving, Muss Violet? Wow!! Say it ain’t so!! LOL….
This couple is HOT!! ….Gabi and he are the only performers whose sex/love scenes don’t turn me off…..I usually FF through them—-only one other coupling, with great chemistry for me, was Jeff Branson and Michelle Stafford.
I am not a fan of Gabi ( with the most beautiful, velvety hair on TV), albeit I am a super-fan of Stefan ( Brandonn not Tylor) —so, finally, Gabi’s sense of self is sinking into me —she’s got it going on—-but only with nuStefan.
I have always loved Kate, as well—it’s one of those things, I guess….I can tolerate any deviltry she has stored up her sleeve.
I agree about Maggie—-she and daughter are like two peas in a pod—cringe-worthy…..both sporting a Rita Hayworth, passe’ do.!!—-not to mention their continuous lamentations about one thing or another.
Poor John Aniston—-love him, his persona, his dry sense of humor and delivery. Prayers!! He’s one of my very, very faves…..wish him well—
Hope you and yours are doing well? ❤️

So happy to hear from you. My granddaughter finally “fixed” me up here onmftv, but now I am not being notified when I get a reply from someone. I just saw your reply by accident. Hadn’t heard from you since you were at M.V, and was wondering how your vacation went. So much excitement and commotion going on there.
My mother spoke of Nantucket so much as a kid. She loved it there.
Iam not a fan of Gabi either. I was saying to someone today, that she has had a lot of bad things happen to her over the years, so maybe that are using that as an excuse for her to be a bitch, and an absent mother besides. I like both Stefans, but I think Brandon can play him a little nicer. Knowing Stefan’s mother, she will try to get rid of Gabi in no time. That should be fun, and having she and Kate in the same house, look out.
Well, it’s been nice chatting with you, and hope I don’t miss any more of your replys.I guess I’ll have to try and fix that too.

Hi, Violet,
Thank you for always making your comments so familial…..great feeling.
The Vineyard was hectic, as usual. But, it was great visiting with family whom I had not seen in five years….a lot of new members….new babies, recent marriages etc.
Edgartown is becoming the go-to place. David Letterman has been our neighbor for years ( South Beach–Katama area)—yet, the neighborhood seems to be “growing”–oy vey!!
Nantucket is nice—much quieter, as it’s only a one-town island versus the Vineyard, which has six.
The best time to visit MV ( avoiding the crowd) is early spring and late summer through October.
There are no excuses for Gabi or Dario—I wonder if Rafe was “sprung” from the same mother. He is too good to be true!! LOL.
If Gabi sets her eyes on someone or something, she will break the law to get it—-think Chad!! She stabbed ( metaphorically) Melanie between the shoulder blades; then Abbi, albeit Abbi had her dark moments—–and, not just as Gabby, but also as Abbi.
What will TPTB do with Vivian? Is Kate really dead or is she being buried alive? Any interaction between these women is a treat for me– Mamma mia—-!!!!
So much going on—I can take anything and anyone with the exception of Sarah, her hair; her stupid, seemingly naivete, her wah-wah sulkiness and her flighty, ditsy demeanor.
We women know when that time of the month is approaching. It is called ovulation–there are well-defined signs….very rarely does a woman not experience cramps!! Our bodies tell a story, regardless of any turmoil going on in our lives. She has three possible baby-daddies—- She’s a doctor, for petey-sakes…. no birth control ?? Duh—what did she think would happen? Three men in the span of werks.
I have never marked a “period” calendar in my life. And those women who do? Well, I am confounded…..unless I’m missing something. Pardon the pun…..I do not keep track of writers; but is any one of them a woman? Humph!!
Soon, my dear Miss Violet–take care…

Hi Celia,
So glad you are back from your vacation with warm feelings of seeing family. I have not been back to visit since 1972. I speak with a niece in Patchague, but it’s not the same. My sister, her mother, who lives close to her will not communicate with me. She has issues, one being depression. Makes me so sad, especially since my daughter passed. Life is too short for crap like that.God, my life is a soap opera!
This soap is driving me crazy, with all the spoilers, etc. I had read that Stefan dies and Gabi donates his heart to Julie out of guilt.Abby and Chad are supposed to be back, etc, etc. I so agree with you about Sarah. It could be the actress herself. I could not stand her on B&B either, such a ditz!I don’t know why they ever wrote her as a doctor, she can’t even take care of her own body, let alone someone elses. You are right, these writers must be men.Do not have a clue as to how women’s bodies work.It is so nice chatting with you. Till next time. Have been reading so much about the Hamptons lately, with beautiful photos. I so miss the shingled homes. I get sick of looking at stucco, tiled roofs, etc.

I enjoyed every beat of this story! Great writing, big payoff! I have the Days I love back. Not since Jim Reilly has it been so much fun to watch!!

This Thursday ending was a Friday cliffhanger!! So glad we got another episode right after to continue to story because Thursday was so damn good. I LOVE how Ron is making his character’s smarter- everyone knew something was off with Nicole, Brady was even connecting things to Kristen, Hope was smart following leads and John put everything together. This story was massaged for as long as it could and the payoff has been beautiful, fun and exciting!!!

Loved it!!!!! Keep it coming.

So the scene was entertaining to watch and I like how it was put together with the flashbacks….except for John talking nonstop during his wife’s toast to him. That was ridiculous. But my bigger reaction is how Ron continues to reuse masks in his stories. Yes, writers do recycle plots about infidelity, baby switching, and back from the dead stories. But this is different. It is a very specific plot device, one that I find lazy and lacking creativity — particularly since Ron used it several times on GH and now again on Days. Just stop it! This is part of the reason he has the nickname Ron Cartoony…and I don’t see that as a compliment.

Re-Ron is action again! Dumb.

Days Of Our Lives

The Can’t-Miss Week of Days of our Lives: What Happened The Night Adrienne Died? And … More Questions Answered

Make sure to catch Days of our Lives on any platform you can next week! (The President Donald Trump impeachment hearings could alter the regularly scheduled daytime time slot for the series on NBC).  For, it is a pivotal one for fans that have been following along the major storylines of the innovative time jump that started to air last November.

In one emotional week, Sonny (Freddie Smith) and Justin (Wally Kurth) revisit the last day of Adrienne’s life — which happens to be last Mother’s Day.  In addition, Sarah (Linsey Godfrey) goes into labor.  While. Brady (Eric Martsolf) causes tension when he brings Kristen (Stacy Haiduk) to his parents’ townhouse for Mother’s Day.  Plus, Maggie (Suzanne Rogers) gets an upsetting visit from someone from her past.  How does this all tie-in to what went down that fateful night?

The latest NBC promo for the series promises we will learn what happened to Adrienne, especially since on Friday’s episode, Ciara (Victoria Konefal) told Will(Chandler Massey) he is not responsible for his mother-in-laws death AFTER he signed the divorce papers with Sonny.   Plus major intel on what happened to Brady and Kristen’s baby and how Haley Chen (Thia Megia) died, which had left an anguished JJ (Casey Moss) turning back to drugs.

NBC Chairman, Paul Teledgy Says: “Days of our Lives Is Going To Carry On”

Very exciting and hopeful news Days of our Lives fans, and those of the soap genre, coming out of the NBC Television Critics Association Winter Press Tour in Pasadena, California Saturday morning.

During the lead-off executive session, NBC Chairman Paul Teledgy opened up about the status of Days of our Lives with the network since no official announcement had been made on their end as to the renewal pick-up of the beloved daytime drama.

However, Teledgy revealed:  “We are in a middle of finding out very soon,” and then added, “Of course Days of Our Lives is going to carry on. We love it. Millions of Americans watch it every week. I know that will be good news for the fans.”

Teledgy also told Deadline after the executive session that negotiations are still ongoing and the series will stay on NBC, and will not be moving onto the upcoming Peacock streaming service said to bow very soon.

The chairman’s comments come nearly two months following DAYS executive producer, Ken Corday’s comments to the cast that the show had been renewed for its upcoming season.  That came on the heels that for cost-cutting measures, during the dark months, that the cast had been let- \out of their contracts.
