Days of our Lives Renewed Says EP Ken Corday

Photo: NBC

There was breaking news from the set on Thursday at Days of our Lives.  According to Deadline, the series executive producer, Ken Corday announced to the cast that the show will continue on.  It appears the 54-year-old daytime drama series received a one-year pick-up.

The article cites that when reached for comment, NBC who airs the show, and SONY TV the show’s distributor had “no comment”. However their sources reveal that a deal is being close to being completed and “looking good”.

This comes as welcome news to longtime and new fans of the series, who were concerned for its cancellation after a story ran over the last ten days that the cast was let-go from their contracts.

Under head writer Ron Carlivati, the soap just launched its innovative daytime drama time-jump on November 8th where all the characters lives were fast-forwarded a year.

So, excited to hear that Salem and Days of our Lives will live on? Comment below.

This is the best news ever. I can’t imagine daytime without this crown jewel. But then, I said that about As the World Turns, Guiding Light, All My Children and One Life to Live and look what happened. I still miss Love of Life, The Secret Storm, The Edge of Night, Another world as well.

Totally hear ya!

best news!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Once i know for sure i will sigh relief but the show needs to be a continuing daytime drama and not Dr. Who..

Thank G-d! I will say… I was a bit nervous but believed in the DAYS cast members who shared their assurance that the show would be renewed. We are blessed. Hopefully, this hiatus is about renewing the show, retooling and getting on an updated filming schedule like the other soaps. #GETYOURACTTOGETHERDAYS and I believe DAYS is #ISGETTINGTHEIRACTTOGETHER.

While this is good news, I don’t know how many more renewals there will be with the current steaming pile of dragonshit storylines.

I’m hoping the latest spin about the contracts & hiatus proves to be true…. and that would be that Days is taking a few months off so they can get off this 666% ridiculous taping schedule, which has made the episodes 8 months old before they even get to air, and therefore much harder to write your way out of a failed storyline.

Yay!!!!! I wish they’d renew for more than one year. Days is really rocking. Of the three I watch (Y&R, B&B) it is my fave.

SO happy to read this! While I’ve watched many soaps over the years (ANOTHER WORLD) being my all-time favorite, DAYS was where I started as a little kid. I wish we didn’t have to go year to year on these renewals.

I miss my favorite soaps, As the world Turns, Guiding Light, All my children, One life to live!
They were the best of the best. Days was on the bottom of my list but I suppose being a lover of soaps, at least we have a few to enjoy. I don’t understand why we don’t being back these wonderful stories or maybe a few new ones!

Great news, indeed!

But I am distracted and must share this with you: As I write this comment, there is a link to a youtube video of an interview by Michael Fairman of Eric Martsolf and Stacy Haiduk. With all three cozying up in the photo and both men wearing form-fitting black T-shirts, it appears as though Martsolf’s left hand is holding Fairman’s left hand. Maybe it’s just an illusion. Maybe I’ve seen more than a few homoerotic (or, at the very least, ambiguous) DOOL scenes of a shirtless Brady Black. Maybe I was also influenced by just watching the season preview of EastSiders….

Jamesj75 What is your point? I watched the video, after your comment and didn’t see any untoward touching of anything.E.M is a married man, and Michael I think has more class.

Hello there, Violet. My point is humor. I like humor. I like making humorous comments, not all the time, but some of the time…

So sorry you didn’t realize that… And I was only speaking of the still picture; I didn’t watch the interview. I certainly wasn’t seriously accusing anyone of unwanted touching. Just making (what I intended as) a humorous observation.

Alas, the perils of online commentary… And this confusion after a bit of an absence for me…

Michael is holding his own hand. Eric’s left arm is behind Michael. Yes, you’re seeing things that aren’t there.

Thanks for your reply, Momo. For the second time, let me clarify: I KNOW they weren’t holding hands. I said: “It appears as though….” If you (and the equally mystified Violet Lemm2) would read the entirety of my initial remarks, you might notice the humorous tone.

I guess it’s okay to quibble about these silly misunderstandings rather than get into heated political arguments (elsewhere at this site) or wax nostalgically about the glory days of soaps (as I’ve done previously). None of it holds much enjoyment anymore… (And there is no attempt at humor in my last paragraph.)

I did read it. FYI: Your humor did not translate.

The soaps are still good. Yes, times have changed, but I hope you can still find enjoyment in them. 🙂

Thank you, Momo!

Now, who was it that said Days would be cancelled?

Mary,
the smoke and mirrors of this storey can be mind bending, so let’s just think about the facts.
1. Ken Corday owns Days, so he can renew it however, wherever he wants, neither NBC nor Sony have confirmed it’s renewed to my knowledge.
2. The cast has been released from their contracts. The writing, has been so rediculously stupid of late, that even the good actors look like they’re over acting. The only ones who will be back, are those who don’t find work elsewhere.
3. This ‘time jump’ that they’re hoping to save the show with???
Is only for fans. It’s way too confusing to bring in younger millenials.?
Maybe Corday is hoping Prospect Park will give it a go.?

The renewal of DOOL has been confirmed! You were saying?

Mary, if you could post a link? to either NBC or Sony confirming it,…? Or are you in charge of these decisions.

It looks more like Ron C has turned it into roadkill. So many long time fans have given up just this week.

It’s likely Corday renewed it to survive in the app.???

When does this year renewal begin? They are eight months ahead, so basically half of 2020 is already accounted for. So is it a year after that or is really an order for six months worth of shows to finish up 2020?

If the renewal begins after the already shot shows air, I would see that as a positive sign, but renewing a show for a year when most of the shows for that year are already in the can isn’t much of a commitment.

But then again rumors of DAYS being cancelled have been around for years, and it hasn’t happened yet. It is like the energizer bunny, it keeps going and going. So I will hope for the best, but not be shocked if an cancellation order does come in 2020 at some point.

Hi, Mary SF!

The newest renewal starts from next September through September of 2021.

Kristian Alfonso Returns to Days of our Lives for Tribute to The Late Bill Hayes

After a few weeks of Days of our Lives fans being upset that Kristian Alfonso (Hope Williams) was not on the first list of initial returns for Doug Williams’ funeral and episodes honoring his portrayer, the late Bill Hayes, comes word that the popular star is back and taping scenes.

Kristian reported to work on the Peacock streaming soap opera on Monday, April 22nd. She shared how important it is for her to be back for this particular return to the show that made her a household name.

“My return is very bittersweet,” Alfonso told TV Insider,  “because it is the end of an era with Bill gone. So to return to Days is very sad. I am appreciative that they came to me to include me in their series of shows honoring Doug and I’m very happy to see everyone, but I’m entering the studio with a heavy heart.”

It was back in 1983 that Kristian first debuted as Doug’s daughter, and now 41 years later looking back at it, and her time with Bill Hayes is very emotional for her.

“I remember my first scenes with him/ He was very loving, very welcoming. That he was very talented and an incredible actor and an icon, that all goes without saying, but my personal relationship and my working relationship with Bill, it was home,” expressed Alfonso. “Doing the scenes with Bill, I felt like I was with my dad because there was so much warmth and reality.”

Photo: JPI

Alfonso did express some deep regret, in that she had wanted to work with Bill Hayes during her last appearance on the soap back in 2023, but according to the iconic actress, there was something in the works but it never materialized.  “I’m sad that I did not get the opportunity to do the storyline that Ron (Carlivati, head writer) had planned/ It was great; we returned to Salem to reunite with our families and I would have had father/daughter scenes with Billy. What Ron had written was beautiful and emotional and it was a fantastic story. I was 100 percent for it and the fans would have loved it.”

As for if Bo (Peter Reckell) and Hope will be back on-screen together anytime soon, Kristian would only say, “What I will say is don’t give up hope.” Doug’s passing and memorial episodes will stream later this year come late November into December.

So, are you happy to learn that Kristian Alfonso is back taping episodes surrounding Doug’s memorial episodes? Comment below.
