Tonight in ceremonies in San Francisco at the 23rd Annual GLAAD Media Awards, Days of our Lives was named the Outstanding Daily Drama besting All My Children, the only other nominee in the category.  DAYS won for Will and Sonny’s storylines, and on-hand were Chandler Massey (Will) and Freddie Smith (Sonny) to accept on behalf of the NBC soap.

Other honorees at Saturday’s ceremony in San Francisco included Grey’s Anatomy for drama series, Max J. Rosenthal of The Huffington Post for digital journalism article, Wells Fargo for the Corporate Leader Award and Grey’s Anatomy creator Shonda Rhimes for the Golden Gate Award.

The awards salute fair, accurate and inclusive representation of the lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender community and the issues that affect their lives in the media.  Other winners from among this year’s 35 categories were honored at ceremonies in New York and Los Angeles over the past few years.

Congratulations to Days of our Lives and to Chandler and Freddie!

They deserve it with Wills coming out story. Chandler Massey is a great actor all of his scenes are sincere, and very heartbreaking, Most of all I love the scenes with Marlana, there so honest together, Brilliant writing. Congratulations to days of our lives.

Hopefully the reboot of the reboot of the reboot of Days of Our Lives will include more Freddie Smith and some stuff for Will, like frustrating realistic crushes on inappropriate men (Like one of his step dads haha or Chad) –and a date or two. I like that he is involved in storylines that have nothing to do with being gay, as if he was just a “normal” character (which he is) but I also don’t wan’t coming out to be the end for that part of him. Crushes, romance, sex that doesn’t live up to the hype if not with someone you have feelings for–be brave Days and go there. An eighteen year old gay guy would not be all about word play with gramma. He would definitely be using the Internet for other stuff too.

I agree. I think DOOL deserves this win! Chandler, Freddie and Deidre are all great actors/actresses.

It’s very sad only 2 soaps were nominated. Still happy for DAYS. This story has been kickass and they truly earned this award.

Well deserved. Days, Chandler, Freddie, Deidre, and the rest of the cast are doing an awesome job with this story.

I am glad they won they really deserve it the acting was fantastic , Chandler and the rest of the cast did a super job.with this storyline.

Chandler is an awesome actor…he rocks his scenes and I’m so glad he’s being recognized. Freddie is also doing a great job although he hasn’t been on for a while. Yayyyyyyy, for days & Chandler & Freddie….

Totally agree! Chandler is awesome, but we need more Freddie. After all, Sonny is the first gay character on the show. He deserves more airtime. It would be nice to learn a little more about his past. According to Freddie Smith, we will see more of him this summer! YEA!!!

DAYS is providing a keen insight and opportunity with this JUGGERNAUT story and HUGE Accolades to the Actors adeptly delivering tour de fource Show. first and foremost… DAYS, for all intents and purpose, has stepped up to the plate… front burner status.

I hope DAYS continues… throughout it’s tenure… on the air… Keep Chandler Massey… his talent.. and sensitive.. portrayal… is affective, and thought provoking. CHEERS! congratulations DOOL. continued wins at the 2012 DAYTIME EMMYS!

I’m re-posting… my take on Sammi and Will… these two… from the get go… survived, existed… “co-depended” on each other.. regardless of “fault”… Mother and Son… Will’s coming of age… transition to adulthood… with Sammi, is tumultuous. we’re watching Will find his voice…his way in life.

Let’s see more of Sonny, Justin and Adrienne.

i kinda see this as a catalyst… a full circle, if you will… in Sammi and Will… Lucas, readily admitted he wasn’t around for so many years… and is re-learning how to be a father.. you have Sammi and her oldest son… parenting with his siblings… and side by side, through the years.. distant, moreso… watching Sammi’s relationship(s) fallout, one after another… No stable influences… or father figure(s). it’s just time for Sammi, to pay attention and focus on her son. She has support from Lucas… the three of them will find their way back to each other. it’s a burgeoning… clean slate. Adulthood.. Empowerment for Sammi to heal old hurts… past mistakes… and Bond with her child.

I’m just saying… there’s so much more story to be told… ie: rumblings.. leaning to dropping the ball… going back burner with Wills, coming out.

along with the Lexie story… and i really liked the Austin/Carrie/Rafe/Abby story.

Give Stefano time off.. and bring him and Kristen “Eileen Davidson”, back to helm the Dimera Empire… and reignite John and Marlena.. with some passion.

Here’s to hoping Chandler Massey wins the 2012 younger actor Emmy! Kudos to DAYS.

Ms. Deidre Hall. Thank you. I’m appreciating you much more so. I read your’s and Chandlers interview in soap digest… perhaps, it’s with age… maturity. Our common sensibilities…. reaching for connection. What a duo… you and Will… are forever etched in DAYS. Aside, from Marlena’s “world”… John and Sammi, to mention a few… I wish Carrie was staying. It’s Chandler Massey… who’s cemented your characters belonging… LOL. your Veteran Legacy. That trust and commitment to act… an invariable… must… “we exist”. it’s a sharing, loving, nurturing combustion (if you will).. that lights up DAYS screen.

congrats! much deserved. great story and great acting.

Never watched Days of Our Lives………..I just watched AMC, OLTL, & GH…Never watched soaps on other networks……………………………………….This was enough for me to watch ………………

On Friday, reports surfaced that Steve Kent, Senior Executive Vice President of Programming at Sony Pictures Television, is no longer with the company and overseeing the Sony soap operas, Days of our Lives and The Young and the Restless.

According to Soap Opera Digest, a set side source reported that Kent’s last day was last Friday, April 12th, which was one day after what would have been his final appearance in his Sony VP role at the Days of our Lives 15,000th episode on set celebration.
