Daytime Emmys: New Categories For Dramas: New Approaches Performer, Guest Performer! Change In Pre-Nomination Performer Reels!

Yesterday, On-Air On-Soaps previously announced the new date for the upcoming 42nd Annual Daytime Emmy Awards which will be handed out on Sunday, April 26th 2015.  NATAS has not announced a deal with a television home as of yet, but is noted to be in heavy discussions.

Meanwhile, there have been a few category additions that will allow more performers from the soaps to be included:  First, there will now be a new acting category for soap web series performers:  Outstanding Performer in a New Approaches Drama Series. This category will recognize the work of an actor or actress only appearing on a New Approaches Drama Series.  The award will be for a lead or supporting role.

Secondly, as previously reported but with some new additional info, there will now be a category for Outstanding Special Guest Performer in a Drama Series.  This award will recognize the work of an actor or actress who has made a limited number of appearances on a Daytime Drama during the 2014 Calendar year.  This does not mean, the only well-known names can compete, but anyone who has been in a guest role.

Finally, in the Pre-Nomination round where Daytime Drama performers have to submit clips of their work to get through to the first round of voting, now comes word that this year, while the reel can be up to 4 minutes total running time, and it now consist of any clips from up to two episodes from the 2014 calendar year.  This was changed from last year, when actors could only submit two scenes.

So, what do you think of the category additions?  And the Pre-Nomination clip change?  Do you think it will help your favorite actor?  And, who are some of the names you can think of that could vie for the New Approaches or the Guest Performer category? Share your thoughts below!

Donna Mills for Guest Appearance!!

Yup – if she doesn’t take that statuette home it will be a travesty. Donna is mesmerizing in this role and she’s the best looking 73 year old on the face of the earth. Damn, she looks good.

does seem like a shoe in

deservedly

Absolutely!

GH should clean up this year

Sharon Case hopefully will win from Young and the Restless

Not going to happen.

Sharon Case has fallen long out of favor with the Emmy panel. It’s been 11 years since they have nominated her for anything.

I know she does not have her nose up everybody’s behind! Please spare me the Sharon Case pile on! She is still employed looks like a million bucks and does not bad mouth people!

Praying that Michael Muhney submits his scenes from his last few days. Billy Miller too. Those were Oscar worthy performances.

Yes, both MM and BM did phenomenal on their last day together.

Shemar Moore or Meredith Baxter for Guest Performer.

Shemar already has one Emmy that he does not deserve please don’t give him another.

All good. The key is in the presentation and production. A shoddy cheap awards show does no one favors. I still sigh when I recall recent efforts on line and HLN and the miserable ways the cancelled soaps were remembered during those shows. The lack of star power in the programs or even attendance by other nominees is disappointing. This is a major doing. I want the powers that be to treat it as such or just do away with it.

Seriously, the trophy/engraving business in Hollywood must be very lucrative! So many awards… but daytime gets this one opportunity.

Just ‘cry’, ‘scream’ and you have emmy worthy scenes. Isn’t there suppose to be more? Where are the subtleties?

Don’t forget slamming chairs slinging arms repeating lines at least twice rolling your eyes standing with a pissed off attitude. Yep that is acting!

Why k/kay, it sounds like you’ve been watching GH!!!! That’s exactly what we’ve been heavily bombarded with by a certain someone over these past few months!

doesn’t this all reek of Heather Tom

hide your emmy she wants another one

Alison Sweeny and James Scott from EJ’s nightmare ep. Ali also did great work when EJ died.

They should both not only be nominated, but should win. The scenes that they have done the last few months have been amazing but the scenes when EJ died are definitely Emmy worthy.

here, here

didn’t they tho

these two… along with the ep when it was just the two of them… featured
ala… whos’s afraid of Virginia Wolf’ : shakespearean…. Richard Burton and Elizabeth Taylor

submit those two eps…. and this had better be a sure fire WIN WIN for both

so deserving… so missed…. so lacking in Salem… ( not that much but enough to realize what’s left… that the days production isn’t doing )

shucks… i’m just feeling the miss

lead actor and actress Nom’s : James Scott and Alison Sweeney for DAYS LIVED!

THIS IS GH’S YEAR!!! ok DAYS shouls get some gold but GH was on fire!!!!!

GH has been stellar. My guess is that Frank V. learned his lesson with picking submissions and GH is going to SWEEP this year because that was just a joke what happened last time.

With only four soaps still on network, adding some new categories might beef up the talent that would attend the ceremony— I like the idea of giving web soaps their own acting award. Some great performers might not have bother submitting their work believing they had no chance against established network soaps– so that should encourage them to submit clips. Guest role was long overdue—

By the sounds of it, it seems NATAS is trying to make up for last few years of neglecting their members who work on daytime shows, and are trying to give them the respect they deserve, by taking these awards more seriously.

However allowing more variety in the submission process might sound like progress, but personally, I don’t know think that will really change the flawed nomination process too much—

Really NICE press.

with CBS having two shows… double the nominations – vote getting

and ABC and NBC with one apiece… and by far the better shows of the two on CBS

Fans know

I really like the extra noms for internet show and guest role… it does make it that much more exciting to see more WINS

YES!

loving it

Serial respect

I only watch the soaps from daytime tv.. And I watch them at night.
I don’t watch game and talk and cooking shows..
so– I have zero joy in watching them get awards and I don’t watch it..

I do try to watch the soap awards, separate them out of the daytime junk tv ..
(have to time it just right lol ..

Wish there were just Soap Opera awards ..

Are the EMMYs in April already because they are finally smart enough to cancel this disastrous soap? Michael, why are you all pretending DAYS is still going strong? It’s pretty clear that ever since last summer (2013) Corday seems eager to destroy (successfully) his own show, most characters and the storylines. And to piss-off all his viewers in the process. Why?

I am happy to see the guest and the online only categories. Hoping for a much better produced and classier awards show than recent years.

Guest actor……depending on the number of shows Eileen Davidson could be in this category maybe even as the character Susan. Along with Donna Mills, Robin Matson (Heather Weber), or Constance Towers (Helena) Fred Willard on B&B, or some of the vet actors on Y&R.

MEREDITH BAXTER is a shoe-in for Emmy for Guest Performer on Y&R. Her work has been absolutely fantastic since she started. You’d think she’d be there for years! I hope she stays on with the cast for a long time; Y&R needs it!

They deserve a decent platform unlike the tragedy of last year….they have EARNED it and deserve it!

This week, DAYS head scribe, Ron Carlivati, confirmed that, and told Michael Fairman TV on the decision of the scripts the team submitted: “I like to have some humor, but it was also the funeral, and then there was Sarah (Linsey Godfrey) giving birth, and then Vivian’s (Louise Sorel) crashing the reading of the will.”
