GENERAL HOSPITAL: How Does Griffin Know Nathan … Is The Common Thread Claudette?

The backstory of Claudette, the ex-wife of Nathan West (Ryan Paevey), has started to come to light, especially after last Friday’s cliffhanger on General Hospital.
After Nathan and Maxie (Kirsten Storms) have a major strain in their relationship over Nathan not being forthcoming about having an ex-wife, the two seem headed for trouble. Then when Nina (Michelle Stafford) moves into their place, and Maxie heads out, Nathan tells his sister his truth about Claudette West. He married her to get her a green card to stay in the country. Once together, apparently she cheated on him. Nina says he needs to make things right with Maxie, and of course, she would be upset about his withholding this information from her.
When Nathan turns the conversation to Nina’s failing relationship with Franco (Roger Howarth), she grabs Maxie’s tablet that she left behind and tells Nathan that Maxie has been doing some research … looking up Claudette West. Meanwhile, Maxie runs into Griffin (Matt Cohen) at the MetroCourt, and after exchanging some barbs (is this true love in the making?), the two sit down for a chat where Griffin reveals he is Duke Lavery’s son, and they just brought in to custody Carlos Rivera, the man that shot him. Maxie is so moved about Griffin’s relationship with Duke, because of her family’s relationship with the late mobster. She then says she understands how Griffin feels having had her beloved sister, Georgie murdered and wanting justice.
When Griffin leaves the table for a moment in rushes Nathan! He tells Maxie every word Nina told him to say to her to woo her back. Nathan then proceeds to get down on one knee and proposes marriage to her! Maxie looks thrown by it, but not in the best of ways. When Griffin walks back in the room he sees Nathan for the first time, and it’s made very clear that he knows exacly who Nathan is.

I haven’t been a fan of Nathan since he first came to the show. I don’t see the reason for his character, and would much rather the show brings back Lucky as Dante’s partner. As for this storyline… who cares? I understand, it gives Maxie and Nathan something to do and shows that not every couple who seems perfect and happy is always like that. But we don’t know Claudette and likely never will.
And as for Griffin, I really like him. And I realize the show is trying to connect him to the canvas in more ways, but Nathan isn’t a core character. I think Claudette was either Griffin’s ex, or his sister.
I so agree with you about Nathan. Maxie needs a much more interesting character as a co star like the hot new Dr.

Is that why Griffin looked so startled when he was introduced to Nathan? Is Claudette the link? Is it possible for Duke to have also fathered Nathan. But, Dr. O said Nathan’s father was worse than Victor Cassadine. Perhaps, Ray Berlin is Nathan’s father, who is now married to Claudette.
I always maintained that Griffin and Nathan looked so alike, they could pass as brothers. Or, Duke isn’t Griffin’s father, at all, but Ray is father to both…. Big mystery on the rise, Jimmy. LOL.
So therefore, Claudette is the new Nina.

I am so glad to finally see someone else who thinks Nathan and Griffin look alike. Ever since Griffin has shown up, I have been wowing about how they looked more alike than most real life siblings.

You jest, but I think it is possible– Griffith has very feminine features, I would definitely buy him playing a transgender. Also there seem more to the story between Nathan and Claudette, perhaps she cheated on him with another woman because she wanted to be a he- or she wanted to be a he and was still attracted to men and Nathan was too weirded out to be in what would be a homosexual relationship once Claudette transition, so he made up that story of her cheating on him rather than admit his wife wanted to be a man. I think it will make a interesting story, but GH hasn’t done an interesting story in a while, so many it will be too much to hope for

Once again, I am in the minority. Who is Claudette? Who is cracking corn? Well, that would be Jimmy and I don’t care.
I would imagine that in a month or so we will be introduced to a new character named Claudette thereby adding to the already bloated cast.
We went through getting to know a character through hearing accounts of said character already with Nina. Silas sobbed, honked through his nose and told lyrical tales of the lovely Nina months before Stafford the scene chewer shored up to the banks of Port Charles. Now, we have to listen to Robocop go on and on about about a character we have yet to meet while poor Maxie is rendered into dullsville.
So yes, Jimmy crack corn and I don’t care.

Sarah Brown has already played two characters on GH and her portrayal of Claudia was an abysmal failure which is why she was killed off.
I don’t see how she could come in as a third character as that is stretching the suspension of disbelief too far.
Here, here, Harry!!! I found Claudia to be an annoying, abrasive shrew, and was so glad when Mikey knocked her off. It was actually one of the few times in the history of GH when the “Corinthos Kid” served a useful purpose.

I think that Claudette should be on the show and run into Nathan and Griffin at the sametime.
I have to admit that revelation super annoyed me. It’s like they are taking great pains to attach Griffin to EVERY character on the canvas. Look, the guy is a good actor and is good looking to boot. I already like him. No need to insert him into three or four story lines simultaneously.
I’m also tired of characters being introduced off camera who are supposed to have tremendous impact on a story. It feels as if they have run into a dead end with Nathan, which is why they have made up this Claudette business.
There’s also something abut Maxie’s recent interactions with — oh, just about everybody — which is making her unlikeable of late. She is sort of coming off as a hard nosed snob who doesn’t have much patience for other people’s mistakes or problems.

Big no to a griffin Maxie pair up, he needs to get put together with Liz, plus currently in my opinion Nathan and griffin are the two best looking guys on the show , why is Maxie getting so lucky? Not fair, but also the Nathan and griffin connection if you ask me is dr O herself, didn’t she have duke ” imprisioned” all those years in the hospital before he was finally found? There’s gotta be something there?
I totally agree. Maxie already has Nathan and on again off again Spinelli. Liz needs a new man and it would be nice to see her taken out of the Nik circle if they are just going to remain good friends. I think Griffin probably was Claudette’s other man and I guess she’ll also be arriving soon.
I like Nathan and Maxie. Yes they need a story to keep them interesting and that’s fine but it is also nice to see her with someone who is good to her.
SHARI, I agree with all you’ve said except for the Elizabeth pairing. Griffin is too good for her, at least so far. How about, bear with me here, a May-November romance for Anna? Aside from the usual soap gross factor, which we’ll ignore, Griffin could be a way to rekindle her flame for Duke and he clearly needs someone more mature than his peer-group. Too close for comfort?
I actually considered that a few weeks ago! I would love to see an Anna/Griffin romance. Lol I am actually 12 years older than my husband and we have been together 16 years and have 3 children and he is my absolute best friend so it does work.

@Shari…I recently opined to CeeCee that same thought….there is an incredible chemistry between Anna and Griffin….a totally romantic vibe. I’d love to see them become involved, particularly due to the Divine Devane’s timeless nature. Other than with Robert or Noah, she seems far too youthful for men of her age range…..(Well, except for Paul, and he’s too sleazy….and speaking of Hornsby, how about his professed attraction to Anna on Tuesday? That was too funny.) The soulful Griffin has a depth and maturity to him that would make him unsuitable for the likes of Maxie or those other flighty she-meeees of similar years.
I agree about Anna. It seems that whole her male co-stars from the past like Duke and Robert, suited her when they were all younger and I liked them now for nostalgic reasons, they now seem too old for her and she seems too young and sexy and cool for them. Finola did have great chemistry and repertoire with Jason T but they weren’t going to go there with Anna and Patrick, Griffin never knew Duke and I think it would be creepy to some but not to me. I also liked Olivia and Johnny when they were a couple.
@Shari….You’re right…Olivia and Johnny were a terrific couple! They had superb chemistry, so the age thing never seemed to be an issue with them. The only time I’ve ever had a problem with that concept is in reference to Alexis and Julian, for the simple reason that so much was made of him being slightly older than her, so what did the brilliant showrunners do? They cast a guy who is already almost ten years younger than his leading lady and could pass for another decade less than that. So, in essence you had a 20+ year perceived gap between the two, plus the obvious physical differences in terms of youthfulness. It simply never added up….Julian should have been a real silver fox male of a certain age from the get-go, end of story.

I have a feeling that Griffin is Claudette. They are experimenting with many different current social issues. I could see them exploring this path. It’s one that, as far as I know, has never been explored. At least on GH.

Hmmmm…interesting. But, even after many experimentations, we should, at least, see some vestige of feminine quality. Griffin is all man. He seems to have a perpetual 5 o’clock shadow. And those shoulders!
I think his abdominal scar may have something to do with Nathan? Perhaps a fencing accident, where Griffin was wearing headgear hiding his face? Nathan’s epee’ nicked him?

I believe you, CeeCee….I was jesting, but it was a very fine double entendre, intentional or otherwise. Honestly, though, I just want Griffin to be the good guy, great doctor and general sweetheart he appears to be….no huge secrets or dark side to his character. I know it’s a hoot to speculate about certain aspects of his mysterious persona, however, for me, just being Duke’s long lost son is enough, and I hope it’s true, and that’s that. Then, maybe he can have that romance with Anna, and we can move on. As for “Claudette,” I’m already at the place where I don’t want to hear her name again.
My boyfriend said the same thing, Lanie. It would be an intriguing story in the right hands but I don’t think the current GH writers are the ones to tackle such a topic and handle it with the sensitivity it requires. THE BOLD AND THE BEAUTIFUL did a great job with the Maya story but I can’t forget the Zoe/Zarf story on AMC — that one was pretty much a mess (which surprised me since AMC had always been such a trailblazer with socially relevant storylines).

Nathan is a hunk BUT he is a stick in the mud. Maxie needs someone who is into fashion and clubbing! Griff isnt it either. He is a reserved professional. He would be better off with Liz.
My opinion is that Griffin is a transgender from woman to man. Nathan won’t recognize how Claudette looks like now as a Man. And let’s not forget the scene with Griffin and Maxie in the Hospital locker room with him in just a towel. Griffin looked down and was feeling his scar at his waist, which Maxie notice. The scar probably came from the Sex Change surgery.

I think Griffin will be revealed to be the former boyfriend of Rachel Berlin (daughter of Raymond Berlin, master of the off-camera Ponzi scheme), half brother of French-Canadian Claudette (the off-camera green card cravin’ ex of Nathan), and a former doctor at Shriner’s Hospital (which provides medical treatment to sick children regardless of the family’s ability to pay) and then this mess will be wrapped up so we can get back to ignoring the fact that Sonny murdered AJ.

The problem with Nathan, and I do feel bad for the actor, is that they try to write him into something that he really is not capable of playing. He’s a gorgeous man, but his acting is somewhat limited. He can’t even pull off a French accent very well:)I think the character is worse than the actor. He seems to be trying. We’ll see if the new storyline works for him and if he can make us care a bit more about him?

With all due respect, Dan, Peavey’s French accent is right en pointe. He speaks with perfect accent and his knowledge of the language is impeccable. It is obvious to me he speaks flued French.
C’est vrai, CeeCee! Ryan speaks perfect French….it’s the English language he seems to have trouble delivering with any sort of gusto! LOL….

Seriously, it seems to me that the showrunners are throwing all sorts of new character ideas (The Berlins and Claudette) at the wall to see who sticks with the existing ones, and as usual, it’s not working…..only causing more confusion.
@CeeCee….Per your contrast and compare comments regarding Nathan and Griffin….I concur with them. Dr. Munro has a whole lot more going on than Detective West…especially upstairs!!!!! LOL. All great comments but Griffin is really Luke Spencer. He came back to help Laura figure out the mystery of Helena’s key. Liesl set it all up because she is the best pot stirrer. Griffin isn’t really Duke’s son. As for Nathan and Maxie? I love them as a couple and I don’t care if Nathan stands on set and pounds his chest and says, “I play football” all day long, I will NEVER tire of him. That is perfection. Just perfection. There are so many great actors on GH that I don’t mind someone being a little stiff at times. (take that any way you want to). As far as Ryan Paevy (Nathan West) is concerned I could just watch him sit at his desk at the PCPD and be into him. So bring on Maxie and Nathan. Bring on Griffin and Luke and crazy stories cause I love GH even when they muddle through some crazy quirky storyline. I hope they don’t go the transgender route, not because I have issue with it or anything like that but after seeing how safe they played it on B&B I really don’t want to see another “trendy” issue written in. Just keep the great shows going. GH has been on fire lately and I can’t wait for each episode to come.
Its okay to have Nathan be eye candy BUT they hand him some heavy stuff and it is so uncomfortable to watch him struggle!
I’ve told you this before, Timmm, but I don’t consider Nathan’s particular variety of eye candy to be all that tempting….I’ve never understood all the fuss about him! Now Griffin is quite another thing! As far as I’m concerned, he gives Detective West a real run for his money in the looks department, plus, he actually has an intellect and personality to match his beautiful façade, not to mention a smoldering sort of charisma and a romantic soul!!!! In other words, he’s the entire package!

I still think Anna’s and Duke’s child is still alive. A while back i thought it was nathan. Then came Griffin but maybe it is Nathan and Griffin knows.
I so agree with you….I have said the same, Diana…..as have many others. I think either Griffin is Duke’s and Anna’s and was ‘stolen’ at birth; or Anna had him with Dr. Hayward, and the same ‘stolen’ baby scenario would also apply.

I feel like Nathan is one of my favorites on the show right now. I’m hoping Claudette shows up and she’s not just another trouble making bitch, we have plenty of that these days. Griffin hasn’t really interested me at all so far, aside from being Duke’s son. Maybe he has a dark side? Hopefully?

Your right Jay, if Nathan is going to stay on the show he should “Turn” gay. I would make Claudette a guy who could be Griff and go that direction. Ryan Peavy is very handsome but his acting is not up to par with what material they give him. He is paired with Maxie. That actress burns holes in his scenes she is so good and that makes him look worse! Personally Jay, I would kill Nathan off either in May or August due to a mob issue. THAT would give Nina something to do, mourning her brother and others would be shaken. It solves a problem of “What to do with Nathan?”

Claudette and Rachael/Ray Berlin “back stories” just aren’t doing it for me. They are characters with history’s that writers just seemed to pull from the sky to bring into Port Charles that have no traction or interest. Goes back to the need for good story telling again.
I’m very bored with this storyline, although I like both Griffin and Nathan. The storyline that I find most boring is Dante and Lulu working on their marriage. Since the actress was re-casted a few years ago, I’m just not interested in this couple.

Maxie and Griffin were more entertaining together in one episode than Maxie and Nathan have been for two years!!!
I was surprised by how much I enjoyed these scenes and really liked the writing content for each character and felt a strong chemistry for the entire conversation. Nathan is still one of the most boring stoic characters ever. Griffin has this soulful mysterious vibe about him that makes him fresh and interesting. Maxie has been thriving again as a character once they put her back in her element at Crimson and it’s time to rid her of the one note snoozefest that is Nathan. He always was and always will be the eye candy guy with very little character substance. I have always felt the Naxie pairing was badly mismatched from day one and wouldn’t be upset at all if they break up and maybe they take Nathan in a different direction to liven him up. I don’t fall asleep when Nathan is around Nina or Dr. O but the rest of the time it’s nap time for me.
One of the positive reasons in making Griffin the son of Duke was on display in his talk with Maxie given that she is both a Jones and Scorpio and those two families were close to Duke in the mid to late 80’s. Anna, Felicia, and Robin adored him. Robert and Frisco were on the right side of the law and had their issues with Duke from time to time but when the chips were down they worked together to nab a common foe. Duke was presumed dead the same year Maxie was born but they got to know each other for a few years in 13-15 so it was great seeing her telling Griffin about the good in Duke.

I whole heartedly believe that Griffin was Claudette. I think it makes sense, with Lucas, Brad, Kristina and Felix, to introduce a transgender character. So I won’t be shocked if that is revealed.
I love Nathan, I want him to stay. I want him and Maxi to stay together. I do want to know how Griffin falls into place. I don’t want Nathan to be a bad guy.
No Griffin can not be Claudet if they want to bring a transgender that is fine but not Griffin. I want him and Anna to get together.
I am still stuck on the fact that there has been absolutely no mention of Griffin’s mom being Sister Camellia from the 80’s. All the pieces fit, but why not just disclose that?? Surely, Anna would remember, but they’re not writing her the way they should. Why even bother mentioning Griffin’s mother if the writers are going to be incapable of revisiting a past that many of us watched on GH? Also, Camellia is from Canada as is the mysterious Claudette, so it makes me wonder if Griffin met Claudette in Canada or if the supposedly red-head Claudette is even his sister.

General Hospital’s Adam J. Harrington Weighs-in On John and Carly, and How it’s ‘Starting to Get Very Complicated”
On recent episodes of General Hospital, Carly (Laura Wright) came to John “Jagger” Cates (Adam Harrington) rescue as he was beaten down in an assault. Carly put on her “nurses cap,” sort of speak, and got John to his hotel room and watched over to him, to make sure he didn’t lose consciousness.
GH fans also got their first glimpse of what may be a new romance for Carly, if she and John continue to bond. If John and Carly were to have a relationship, it would certainly have a ripple effect with Jason (Steve Burton) and Sonny (Maurice Benard).
Adam J. Harrington shared his view on the scenes and what might be next between the two. Speaking to Soap Opera Digest, Harrington shared, “I thought it was written in a way where there’s an understanding and a respect between them both. I don’t think there was any moment where she was not aware that he’s an FBI agent, and there was no moment that he wasn’t aware of her history and relationship to other people in the town. I really liked it. I was really looking forward to shooting it with Laura and we had a really nice time shooting it.”

When Carly and John part ways, it seems there were some romantic sparks, as Harrington puts it, “Isn’t that interesting that sometimes with people, the one moment they actually show how they feel is when they know there’s an escape hatch. They know they’re about to walk away. So, it’s almost safe in that moment to do it. I thought that was really special about how (the writers) handled John and Carly. Even the music in that scene was beautifully done.”
Where is this all heading? Conflict! Internally and professionally, and as Adam explains, “Who Carly was to John on paper as just a tool to be used as bait is starting to get very complicated.”

General Hospital’s Steve Burton Reveals the Emotional Scene He Almost Could Not Get Through
On a recent episode of General Hospital, Jason received a message from his mother, Monica Quartermaine (Leslie Charleson) via a note. The effect it had on Jason’s portrayer, Steve Burton turned out to be quite visceral.
As GH fans know, although Jason’s bio-mom was Susan Moore, he was raised and adopted by Monica. Speaking on his Daily Drama podcast with his co-host and GH co-star, Bradford Anderson (Spinelli), Steve shared some insight on the difficulties he had getting through that scene.
Burton shared that in the key moment, “Brooklyn (played by Amanda Setton) came in and that’s where she gave me (Jason) the letter from Monica. That was a very hard scene for me to do. That was a tough one. That was the one time I was almost going to call ‘cut!’ It read ‘Jason, I believe in you.’ I was literally going to walk off the set.”

To clarify and in the story, Monica was saying “I believe in you” and that she knows Jason didn’t shoot Dante (Dominic Zamprogna). Steve added, “It was tough, man. Emotionally, it was a tough scene. It was overwhelming in the moment.”
Steve went on to detail to Anderson, “She (Brook Lynn) pushed it to me and I read it and she was walking out and I had to stop her, but I was so emotional I couldn’t even get it out. And at that point, I’m like, ‘Do I just keep going … or do I just walk off the set right now?’ But, I knew just to stay, because it’s so hard to get back there, once you shut it down. I knew, the next take wasn’t going to be the same.”

It’s clear that Leslie Charleson is so missed on-screen as Monica by all of her castmates, and that Jason and Monica had a very special mother/son relationship throughout the decades on GH.

George Russo to Appear on General Hospital as Carmine Cerullo
Coming up, it looks like Brook Lynn’s (Amanda Setton) grandfather, Carmine Cerullo is headed to Port Charles.
According to casting news from the ABC soap opera, George Russo will take on the role. Russo will tape his episode next week on April 15th and will appear on the May 15th episode of the long-running daytime drama series.
If George looks familiar he has been in numerous primetime television shows and motion pictures including: The Offer. Winning Time, Grand Crew and Shameless.

Longtime GH viewers will recall that Lois’ (Rena Sofer) dad, Carmine, was previously showed up in Port Charles on and off from 1994 to 1996 and was played by John Capudice.
Clearly, it seems that Carmine will be a part of Chase (Josh Swickard) and Brook Lynn’s wedding. Will it go off without a hitch? Are you looking forward to it? Stay tuned.
