GENERAL HOSPITAL: “Janelle” Gets A Surprise From An Old Flame … Chase!

Courtesy/ABC

Om Tuesday’s episode of ABC’s General Hospital things took an intriguing and dicey turn for Nelle (Chloe Lanier). After gloating about her courtroom victory of having Carly (Laura Wright) sent to Ferncliff by reason of insanity, someone overhears her private declaration of just how everything worked out the way she wanted.

Entering the courtroom is none other than Chase (Josh Swickard), who confronts her by the name “Janelle”.  He tells her it’s been a long time, and when he had to testify at Carly’s trial, he was surprised to find out the victim in the case was “Janelle”.  Nelle deflects, and says that what Carly did to her was very traumatic  for her.

Chase, who at this time is seething, asks her, if it was more traumatic than watching her fiancé drown in a kayak?  Viewers then get major insight into this back-story shocker!  We learn that Chase was lead in the case of her former fiancé’s death, and how he found himself falling in love with her, as the evidence against “Janelle” was stacking up for murder charges. Then, out of nowhere, it seems someone reported him for inappropriate behavior.  Suddenly, Chase was fired and the case was then thrown out.  Chase expresses to “Janelle” how he had to restart his career from the bottom up after she single-handedly trashed it.  After being in several other cities, and having to retake his detective exams, he wound up at the PCPD. Chase knows he was set-up by “Janelle” all along.

Nelle brings on the tears and protests that she never used him.  Chase thinks it’s so interesting that she was able to insinuate herself into another rich, elite family, who this time has two fortunes she could have access to.  Nelle is upset that her house of cards could really come tumbling down! Before he exits the courtroom, Chase tells Nelle that this is a small town and he would be seeing her around.

Later, in his apartment, Chase takes out an old photo of him and “Janelle” and stares at it.

So, what did you think about the connection and reveal of the past between Chase and Nelle? Will he work to bring Nelle down once and for all? Will Nelle somehow entrap Chase in her web of lies? Share your thoughts via the comment section below.

Chase is so front and center…it isn how soaps should work…all this is to prop him…he and Nelle reveal came too soon…he should had spot her first here and there and wasn’t sure it was her…when they were together she should had looked slightly different…you build suspense wondering what the connection is…i like Nelle but Chase is too much in my face and its a turn off…no wonder The actor who plays Dante is said to be leaving-he has nothing better to do than argue with Lulu which obviously leads to their predictable break up!!!!….Nelle get out Heather’s old lazysusan(spelling ect?) and drug him with some LSD!!!!

Absolutely, Jimmy. You have summed Chase up very nicely and appropriately.
I am wondering if TPTB cooked this ‘pertinent’ story ‘yesterday’….so convenient.
Chase is a hot-looking cop….but, he had become too ‘sedentary’…..thus, he is linked to Nelle’s past.
It seemed to me that he still has feelings for Nelle.
I wish I knew where the writers are going with this. The ‘revelation’ has not made a dent with me. Is anyone really interested in Nelle’s past, present and future? She will either die giving birth; or the baby will be taken from her on thev way to prison. Mother/Granmaman of the year, Carly, wins again.
Other than great acting, Nelle has played herself out. The character is destroyed.
Chloe is an exceptional actress and characterizing her as a psycho vs. Carly ( another psycho) is a sin.
Is it plausible to assume that Nelle is the scapegoat to prop Carly?
Does someone else have to be the sacrificial lamb to make Carly look lthe victim?

Chase is Nelle’s baby Daddy…she made a withdraw from Chase’s specialty bank and artificially impregnated herself with Chase’s savings-lol

hi Jimh..
Nelle has sold or is selling her baby to Brad, its a con job but still.
Chase will now be turned, he will have a darker side, well a gray side lol, I like that.
The true Chad will emerge and he will be involved with Nel so it will be interesting.

Brilliant connection! This guy Chase is an upgrade from Nathan! Just keep him away from Finn! Chase will be ruined just like Finn is ruining Anna! BUT, I still believe that Alex is Anna right now and she will wind up being Peter’s mother and not Anna. Be patient Robin!

I agree, Timmm. Chase is too good to be saddled with either Finn or the Corinthos clan. He’s sweeter and warmer than Nathan, and has a sense of humor. He needs someone special.

brilliant POST ! ^^^ @GH… what better way for you to make inroads… peace out with the audience.. Alex is ANNA… HELP . for the millionth time.. Anna would never act this way. I CAN ACCEPT Aunt Anna and cousin Robin. absolutely. you can clearly see that Chase and Gregory have an acting skill set… so this is going to be a doozy

I hope so, Timm. ALL GH does is redeem and ruin good villains and destroy and ruin great heroes like Anna.

Was quite surprised. I like it. Gives the new guy something more interesting to play than “Finn’s brother”. But I would have thought that they would be winding down the Nelle character by now.. giving her more “supporting players” (even an enemy) makes me think that she’s not going to be killed off as I assumed, but will be more long term. I love the actress, but I can’t see how they can sustain super batshit crazy Nelle for much longer. Then again, Ava has worn out her welcome again and again and stays on the show by the sheer strength of the actress portraying her (I love Maura West!) … so perhaps that’ll happen with Nelle. ….

Great post, Caleb….and very true!!

I don’t think Ava’s “worn out her welcome.” Love Ava!

Caleb, since the GH of late can’t seem to sustain a brilliant villain they will probably keep Nelle by writing her a long and never ending redemption story. They will either discover a brain tumor or find out she suffered abuse as a child. Maybe both. GH is scared of soap opera villains–they’re a dying breed.

Chloe is a damn good actress. I Hate Nelle!

Finally. Chase will no longer be wallpaper.
Of course, Chase will bring Nelle down that’s the core of their story he was meant to down her.
Question is- how long will it take? I hope this moves on.
And- without a doubt Brad and Lucky’s baby is Nels..

Wouldn’t it be fun to have a story and not know how it will play out?

Dunno… for me, part of the fun of the genre is having expectations met…. for example, I got to enjoy the thought of Nelle falling down the stairs and Carly being blamed for months before it did … and when it did, it was an applaud-worthy moment. I feel that in today’s landscape, writers see what we’re speculating and then they try to write against that.. I think that’s the wrong approach because it leads to disappointment rather than a delighted surprise.

As for Nelle’s baby…. I sure think the baby would be safer with Brad and Lucas than with Nelle so I’m all for it… but I can’t see it turning out well for anyone at this point because, you know, it’s a soap. 🙂

I love that Carly’s being blamed. Can’t think of a better punishment after her lying all these years about AJ pushing HER down the stairs. Problem is seems like that’s not going to be addressed in the show. One would think this might be a time for Carly to finally reflect and show some remorse for what she did to AJ and his name. Seems it might be also a time for Michael to take another look, too. Not going to happen.

rebecca1 🙂
AJ was a slimeball.. he was chin deep in the nasty.
He was not even close to being an angel, that man had no purity, he had evil in him.
His deeds were even up with Carly, I see them as a draw ..

su000
Just wondering how you’ve misjudge poor AJ since you’ve been watching only a few years. If you’ve read his “deeds” on an online character summation, then you’d find almost every character on GH has a history of criminal activity/questionable actions. He wasn’t an “innocent” by any means, but he was a saint in comparison to Sonny and Carly.

AJ was a victim in many circumstances; particularly of Carly. She was a rabid bitch to him. As was Sonny.

Billy Warlock played AJ as a real slime ball (awful recast IMO). Sean Kanan played him more as being entitled, and insecure (IMO).

I liked Billy as AJ. Not at the beginning; he was so completely different in appearance and had no resemblance to Jason (as Steve did with Sean) that admittedly it took me a while to get used to him. But, ultimately, I liked him. (though thrilled when Sean came back and pissed when Ron killed him off due to personal animosity toward Sean.)

And, yes, AJ, no matter who played him wasn’t perfect; he did some shady things to say the least. But he was constantly the underdog both in the Quartermaine family (whether it was tough love or not) and he was battered by Carly and Sonny. No competition there; Carly and Sonny were hideous to him and the utter hypocrisy, to say that they were keeping Michael away from AJ to protect him is off the charts. She kept Michael away from AJ and raised him in the mob…followed everywhere by bodyguards and ultimately shot, comatose, jailed and raped.

A third actor also played AJ when Jason shows up in the early 1990s…forgot his name

Hey, su..reread what I wrote to you and I think it came out “snippy.” LOL: sorry. Didn’t mean to be. I “edited” it. Yay! Found that option; finally! (Thanks, Michael!)

okay; I’m testing to see where the edit button is…nope; don’t see it. There are the thumbs up/down next to “reply” and an icon on the top right that gives a link to your site.

Does anyone else see an edit option?

Nope. Lol. Still dont have an edit option! I SEE IT!!!! JUST EDITED! Yay!!!! lol. I’ll try again to see if it’s on my next comment.

I never see one..now i do but they should already be there when we first post

i dont see an edit button why not show how to find the edit button with a picture under its own topic

I just found the edit button! I did not know it was there and I have been making all kind of odd mistakes (wrong words, missing words, etc). It is to the right of the reply button but only the writer of the post can see it. Now does this mean I need to go back and fix all my mistakes? Because frankly, I am exhausted at the thought. Thanks Mr. Fairman.

PS Rebecca, you can’t edit your comment until after it’s been approved by the moderator and has been posted.

Hope Chase brings Nellie down. Would love to see her get what she deserves.

While everyone is complaining about this story, I like that it’s, in some ways, kept me guessing (ie ‘where are they going with this?”) I have liked that they have hit some predictable beats along the way (such as the fall down the staircase) but where it’s going in general…. I have no idea. It’s not really a riveting story in the usual sense but it’s got its own funky progression and I’m kind of interested in it. Not in a ‘must watch every day’ kind of way, but not everything has to be that.

I’m already sick of Chase. Newbie’s been in town a whole two months, and he’s already got two convoluted backstories tying him to other characters (both of whom are creations of the Valentini regime themselves), a ridiculous lip-sync performance at the Nurses Ball, and way too much airtime for a minor character

All the crazy spoilers floating around about Nelle and possible baby daddy are driving me nuts, but my own idea was that Brad might be the sperm doner, with the agreement between he and Nelle, to give the baby to he and Lucas, for services, yet unknown. They are saying her baby dies and she steals baby James.Farfetched? Not much worse than some of the actual SLs.

There’s definitely a connection with Nelle, and Brad and Lucas’ adoption storyline.

Watched today’s episode while at lunch (Tuesday) and the entire show was dedicated to Chase and Nelle’s past. No thank you!
