General Hospital Live Day One! What Did You Think Of The Broadcast?

Friday was the first of two episodes of the highly anticipated GH Live!  The ABC soap opera was going live performing today’s episode twice, back-to-back for the East Coast time zones, while the West Coast saw the episode replay.

And speaking of how anything can happen … while viewers were anxiously awaiting to see how the cast and the crew would handle performing the script and material live, (when they are so used to taping the daytime drama series weeks in advance) what no one expected was that the live feed at 3PMEST would be interrupted by ABC breaking news of the Boston Marathon bomber being handed down the verdict of the death penalty!  Apparently, this national news affected those ABC Owned television station markets airing GH in that time slot including WABC New York.

Now on today’s General Hospital Live, it certainly harkened back to the golden days of the soaps when everyone was performing without a net and gave that raw feel to it.  There were a few things we took note of: a few camera miscues, the tags at the end of the scenes looked like they were going to long, but that is only because they weren’t edited as usual in a taped episode. We loved William deVry (Julian) who looked like he was about to laugh after Maurice Benard (Sonny) sat him on the bar and the props went “crunch” during their confrontation scene.  We also noticed that when Sam (Kelly Monaco) slapped Jake (Billy Miller) it was a stage slap, not enhanced by sound effects, as usual on a taped episode.

As for the performances, we loved Rebecca Budig as Hayden, who looked like she was having fun and so comfortable during the live show, and with tormenting Nikolas (Tyler Christopher) and Elizabeth (Rebecca Herbst).  It certainly looked like Michelle Stafford (Nina Clay) and Roger Howarth ( Franco) were having a good time, but can anyone guess who is at the door that is going to marry Nina?  What did you think about Nina walking around with the water bottles as a faux-bouquet in her wedding dress?

Then on to the drama! Billy Miller and Kelly Monaco had a major confrontation scene as Jake and Sam that set-up the dynamic between these two characters, and then Hayden comes in with some information!  Will she reveal that Jake is Jason?

And then we come to Finola Hughes (Anna), Teresa Castillo (Sabrina) and Jeffrey Vincent Parise (Carlos), who carried the emotional content of the live show.  Anna gets Sabrina to call Carlos and find out his whereabouts to which Sabrina is regretful she helped Anna, but knows she did no choice.

Carlos is waiting to leave Port Charles on the pier and has a run in with Julian!  But then after Julian leaves, Anna shows up with gun in hand.  After a heated exchange, as Anna realizes Carlos will never pay properly for killing her beloved Duke (Ian Buchanan), Anna shoots him with bullets to the chest!

And then we came to the closing credits! And just as Frank and Ron had experience with and executed on OLTL’s live week, a former character who had been killed-off was in charge of the credit cue cards!

That honor went to Lilly Melgar (Ex-Lily Rivera), who once she got a prompt to start, began revealing the cue cards starting with GH EP Frank Valentini, which had a sketch of him on the card.  That was followed by head writer Ron Carlivati, which also had a sketch of him on his cue card,  and then the writing team, and then a cue card of director Larry Carpenter with a sketch of him also. Maurice Benard joined Lilly in the final seconds of the broadcast, as did Billy Miller, before the show was cut off.

Kudos to the cast and crew of General Hospital, and executive producer Frank Valentini for pulling off the first live show.  It was fun to watch how it would all play out, especially given there were some  built-in challenges like props to break and throw, gun shots to go off, and more! And if you did get the opportunity to watch the behind-the-scenes on the Twitter app Periscope during the commercial breaks, that was a very cool way for GH to take fans even one step further, and up close and personal to the action!

So what did you think of GH Live day one? What was your favorite part of it?  What mishaps did you noticed? Watch GH Live below if you missed it, or just want to watch it again! Then weigh-in!

Must have watched the west coast version. The East Coast version was very different in the lily stuff and and GM had a really bad day speaking way too loud and over gesturing.

I enjoyed it, found great appreciation for the “back in the day” live shows. I believe I saw the west coast version, too. Living in the Los Angeles area, I’m sure that’s the version I saw. I would have loved if hulu/abc.com could also offer the East coast version for viewing. It would be great to see how no two performances are the same.

I’m really wondering who is knocking on Nina’s door. Is it really the man she’s going to marry? I keep having a feeling it’s Christian LeBlanc making a brief cameo? Is that allowed as he’s still at Y&R?
I just can’t get any other ideas of other bachelor’s on the GH canvas that she’d marry. Pete? fake Jake? Maybe she hired him too, ha-ha, Ric’s leftovers… to rile Franco? Or, maybe it’s James Franco at the door! only on GH, right?

The cast was brilliant & the crew and everyone involved… well done!!!

Along with the others below, I have no idea who GM is. I don’t like when people try to be “cool’ by using initials like that. I live on the East Coast and didn’t see Billy/Jake/Jason at the end. But I liked the part where Lilly/Lily screamed, ” a Bomb!” as she had been killed by a bomb. Maurice got of it. they hugged and first she was facing the camera, but he turned her so he would be facing the camera. I don’t understand the point of that or the point of the room with the chairs. But the rest of the Lilly part I enjoyed. I’d like to see Stuart Damon/Alan doing the cards on Monday.

That’s brilliant, Jeremy!!!!! James Franco at the door. ….Satirical paradox. That’s rich, and so mockingly germane. Good call.

@Jeremy….Even though I couldn’t abide the James Franco version of “El Franco,” I have to admit having him behind “Door Number One” would be a stroke of genius and a great juxtapositioning of the two disparate actors who have portrayed this depraved demento. Then again, it would also be a great treat to have JF presenting the closing credits….that whole Lily thing left me cold. I’m definitely hoping for better at the conclusion of Monday’s episode.

Lin,

GM is Grayson McCouch who plays Sloane. And I don’t think people use initials to be cool-I don’t, but because people are lazy and use shortcuts.

Hulu is only showing the west coast version. I was able to watch the east coast on comcast on demand but I’m on the east so I’m not sure if that is the same with people on the west. When I was looking for the west coast version on youtube, I only was able to find the east coast version on there.

Thats what makes it live..
It is not mixed, tweaked, it is raw..
The sound/voice are not yet toned doctored ..

Drawing a blank…who’s GM?

Who is GM??

General Motors?

GM….is Grayson McLouch (sp?)….PCCommissioner Sloan .

They did two live tapings; one for the east coast, which was completely live and then another take for the west coast, which was a re-broadcast.

They way I understood it they did two live tapings for the east coast, one for the markets that air the show at 2 pm and those who air the show at 3 pm. The west coast did not give a “live” show but one of the live shows was taped, and the technical imperfections taken out– I know I watched both, and the west coast airing seemed like a regular show in quality and tone. Of course that could have been after the first live show they work out the bugs so the 2nd live show went smoother, but after watching both I would say the west coast airing, was nothing like the live version I saw.

They should have not edited for the west coast

Nina saying the man that will marry her is at the door: maybe she means the priest/JP that will marry her & Franco? That was my thought…

That was really weird, Kevin,…I must admit. I still don’t get it? Except, perhaps… What I’ve already said…an exaggerated caricature of their characters?

Good thinking, Kevin…..perhaps he will be played by James Franco?

Okay, I think John meant Michelle Stafford and erroneously wrote the initials GM instead of MS.
If so, he is absolutely right. Stafford was over gesturing–in short, she was ridiculous. When she came out in that wedding dress and posed, I just clicked the fast forward button. Live GH does not work for this actress at all. She is just ridiculous.

Honestly, I thought MS, that’s Michelle, was over-gesturing on purpose. But that could just be me. It didn’t bother me. Sloane does the same.

Grayson is always loud and overacts! Live TV makes it even more obvious and annoying!

The second live episode was even worse. Stafford is horribly wince inducing and I cannot believe they cannot write better material for Roger Howarth.

@Harry, Live #2 was a train wreck!

@Harry and Timmm…..In a word, “Touche’!!!!”

The scenes involving Anna, Sabrina and Carlos crackled. The rest was kinda pointless. The end credits with Lily were hilarious and inspired.

I thought there was a knock at the door when Nina was out of the room getting into her wedding dress and Franco was left in the living room but it seems as if they ignored it and just went on with their conversation.

There was also some crunching sounds when Julian was sitting on the bar. Was that some of the breakaway props breaking early?

I also did not like the overhead shots going into the Sloane/Jordan scenes in the alley and it seemed to throw the actors off as to when they should start the scene.

The outs of scenes before commercial breaks felt a little cut off.

Yeah, a David. Adding to that, which is something ver trivial, I found it quite odd that a man as filthy rich as Sonny, would have such a rinky-dink, cheap piece of furniture to showcase his liquor bottles. It was just four sticks glued together…lol.

Coffee prices must have taken a tumble!

@Timmm.

There you go again, Timmm. Slaying me with your one-liners !!!!

Note to Sonny- next time you shop at Ikea, have them put it together before you leave rather than doing it yourself. You can afford the extra charge.

I was lucky with my cable co to watch both live shows. The first had the feel of a live shows with actors flubbing lines the send felt rehearsed with only camera miscues. The first ending was hilarious with sonny, Lilly & the bomb however the second ending was cut off just as sonny and Jason were entering into the camera’s view. Mon they should just do the one show because west coast missed out on the live feel of the show by seeing the second show.

I didn’t see Sonny and Jason together. ?? I live on the East Coast. I agree it should be live to all.

I didn’t see Jason either and I’m on the east coast…

I did…but, Lin, it was In a flash…so fast as it crossed into the fading screen. If you happened to have turned your head, you would have missed it. That’s how fast it flashed.

Jason was only in the west coast one which you can see on Hulu.

Sorry but it was mostly like pointless improvised vignettes at its worse…badly lacking direction!!! I know i said i was taking time off to comment and returning hopefully in June because of illness but while just laying hereand feeling somewhat ok at the moment i thought id take a second to comment…back to my break…later!!!

Failed to mention…i did like Anna…hope Duke isnt dead…rewatched…great to see a live show…glad some enjoyed…later

Hi, jimh. We had not heard from you the last few days….so happy to see your name.
I hope you recover very soon. …send you my love.

Yes, Anna was great. …looked a little crazy around the eyes, lol, but, I guess, that was the idea….bye…soon.

I agree, Jim, the look Anna and Carlos exchanged right after she shot him was powerful and almost chilling. Great acting on both their parts.
I also liked the Hayden and Lizzy scenes–Hayden has proven to be a very entertaining and formidable foe for Miss Lizzy while giving us a much needed dash of fun.
When did all the mobsters get so emotional? Carlos is sobbing after he killed a man he’s been wanting to “take out” (and not for dinner and a movie) for months and he turns into a big ole soppy sponge after his mission is accomplished. Sonny reverts back to smashing bar ware and crystal, Sean grows hysterical and screams,”I wish Juliane would call before he just comes over.” I think Sean was wearing an apron. Even Julian was acting like a simpering coward.
Give me the old days when mobsters were manly men and who didn’t all have their periods at the same time of the month.

This was definitely one of your more inspired posts, Harry! Hahaha…

I was thinking about Carlos. He always seems panicked after mouthing off about how much he wants to kill someone…then either attempts it or accomplishes it…and then freaks out. But I think that’s because after he does the deed…he always winds up at Sabrina’s…and he loves her so much that he is either really devastated to disappoint her…or turns up the hysteria to garner her sympathy. As we saw, after he said his goodbye to Sabrina whom he truly loves…and he WAS emotional…with regret. Regret that he can’t be with her, that his choices prevent that, that he was letting her go…

However, once Julian came to see him off, he was calm and collected and said he had no regrets about killing Duke…just regrets….. (again, about Sabrina).

As for Julian, he’s a con man. He only seemed to cave in to Sonny’s demands…but set him up.

All the mobsters on GH have many sides…even Joe Scully. Man…they shouldn’t have killed him off either!

Jimh…wondered were you had been. Missed your comments. They show such originality and humor. Agree with you about Anna. Give her so screen time and something to work with, and she shows why she is one of the best in the business. Just sorry it was under such sad circumstances. Also am liking Hayden. She sure was forcing Elizabeth out of her comfort zone on Friday. But I also liked how Nik called her on it. Just hope he doesn’t back down, and call her at Jake’s garage on Monday.
Hope you feel better!

Good to see your name again and I hope you turn the corner soon.

I thought the show was good. I realized how important editing is to a show. I do have a question regarding normal taping. Do they tape the show as we saw it today going from different scenes or is the whole scene taped at once and just edited into parts? I hope this makes sense.

Loved when Maurice started to improve! The look on William DeVry’s face was priceless because he lost his line and started to laugh and that’s when Maurice jumped in on his improve and said “why are you smiling?” William looked like “wth?” Lmao

Neptune–you’re right–that was a good scene. I will have to re watch that scene again.

Congratulations to the cast and crew of General Hospital! I thoroughly enjoyed Friday’s show. Some observations of my own…

*Rebecca Budig. I had never seen this actress until she joined GH. While I feel she has been a treat to watch since she started, her performance in the live episode was just fantastic. Really good stuff! I hope she sticks around.

*Finola Hughes. I’ve adored this marvelous woman since she first came to GH in the 1980s. (Even though Gloria Monty did (inexplicably) fire Finola during her 2nd stint as EP, I will forever be grateful to her for bringing us the gift that is Finola Hughes!) I thought her performance was per her usual norm: amazing! She is a treasure. Note to Mr. Valentini: Please update Finola’s photograph in the opening titles. Her outfit is blah. Her hair is bad. Her posture is wrong. There is nothing about this photo that is redeemable. Finola is a beautiful woman. Get her picture updated to reflect this.

*Kelly Monaco and Billy Miller. This storyline is my favorite one running right now.

I’m usually back and forth on Ms. Monaco. Sometimes she wears me out and can be quite boring to watch. And yet at other times she nails it and I really enjoy watching her. Her performance Friday definitely fell into the latter category. I thought she was great. Favorite line of Sam’s from the episode: “What do you mean it’s not about me?? Yes it is!” Spoken in true Samantha Morgan fashion.

Billy Miller. I wasn’t familiar with Mr. Miller until he joined GH. I was a bit ho-hum about him initially but he has really grown on me. This man is uber talented. He has slowly grown into the character of Jason Morgan. Although I didn’t dislike Steve Burton in the role, I enjoy the character more now than I did during Burton’s run as Jason. I’m looking forward to the huge revelation of his true identity. Reasonable minds can disagree about the quality of the writing on this program, but I think Mr. Carlivati and his team are writing this storyline very well.

I’m anxiously awaiting Monday’s episode! Go GH!

I am so glad you are now appreciating Billy Miller’s role-playing, Jason.
‘Ain’t he grand?”….
Love your post…true and to the point.
I must say that this was the first time I have seen real emotion and fair acting coming from, none other, than Sam. I was so pleasantly surprised. I have been harping for months that Jake and Sam will never mesh. But, I am seeing a side from both characters, that it might just work. Hey, a girl can change her mind, can she not? ……”Those who cannot change their minds cannot change anything.”…..G.B. Shaw.

I have been somewhat befuddled by the way Anna’s role has been written these lat few days.
I can understand her realizing that she loves Duke to distraction and would go to the ends of the earth with him. However, her behavior gives me pause. She accuses Carlos of killing Duke in cold blood, then she does a turnabout and does exactly the same thing….she killed Carlos in cold blood, if he is indeed dead. I feel her need for revenge, but that euphoric feeling is temporary. I wonder if she will be savoring the moment temporarily or eternally.
Anna will be leaving for a few months. Obviously ‘they’ must conjure up/produce a viable and practical reason for her leaving. Perhaps she will go into hiding for having committed murder. Yes, “..the snake which cannot cast its skin has to die”. (Nietzsche)……but, albeit justified, as a cop, she should have known better. I don’t like this dark place to which the writers are taking Anna.
Such an imbroglio regarding Jake is going down. Will the other snake’s bullet (Sonny) find its mark? Will Jake be saved? Is this where-upon memory overtakes his self?

I thought the episode went smoothly. Nina’s coffee table breaking was a nice touch. The incident was obviously contrived to make it look like such things do happen when airing ‘live’.
Ok. I’ll stop. I must have bored you to hell and back. Sorry.

I have a feeling Anna’s moment of savouring the moment will only be temporary. She does like to operate within the law. But for a moment I think she saw the enormity of what she and Duke had endured at the hands of the Jerome family over the years. And here was their hitman who was Duke’s killer right in front of her. She also knew Carlos assessment of him being found not guilty was probably true. So in her grief she snapped. And “yes,” in her darkest corners, I’m sure there is revenge involved. I’m not justifying it, but her motives were at least different than Carlos.

I am truly hoping beyond hope that Hayden DOES tell Jake and Sam that he IS Jason Morgan. The spoilers hint that she does, So I hope its true.
I think these two have great chemistry…They are my favorite story as well as I hope every day will bring a revelation. I only feel Patrick and Sam should be in the friend zone.. I hate them as a Romantic pair.
I thought The live show was great, Enjoyed it a lot. The few mistakes were worth the more inspired acting and Improv that took place.
Ofcourse i too adored Finola Hughes.. She was exceptional, I believe Sloane will help her, And if Carlos had a gun on him or near him her shoot would be justified.. I hope that is what they make happen, Then Anna decides to take time off for emotional reasons.. The only other answer is they hide Carlos Body and Anna says she is going away to follow a lead to find Carlos.
Anna while an Honest Cop is not unable to cross the line, we know that after Faison.
But she was great, and I look forward to her return in a few months after finishing her film.
My **TWO** Favorite scenes on Friday
I **LOVED** When Sonny almost picked up and Threw Julian onto the Bar Table crunching glass and the table underneath Julian.. It was clear that it was done more intense than expected and Julian had to ad-lib as did Sonny.. And it was Fabulous.
And
I **LOVED** the Scene in the Garage between Jake and Sam (And later Hayden who was fabulous in all her scenes) The emotion and intensity on Jakes face, We could see him bite hi lip and get flushed with emotion(Anger/Frustration) when Sam slapped him .. {Hated the slap cuz it was a stage slap and obviously lacked intensity or power..Wish K.M had gone for it a bit more}
But the emotion in the dialog was awesome you could feel the chemistry and emotion between them.. All they lacked was a kiss LOL.
I enjjoy Becky, I WANT her to be happy.. But she and Jason (Jake) only have that friendship chemistry, I do hope that Hayden, when she tells Sam and Jason that she does not OUT Nic or Liz at this time so friendships can be kept. I want Liz to allow Jason to choose where he belongs..Just knowing who he is and that he is married does not promise the feelings that go with it, Id much prefer for it all to happen naturally And while he re-connects with Danny.
Jason and Sams story has made me HATE weekends LOL

Cant wait for Monday.. I LOVE the feel of the Live Show.

All I can say is that Carrrrr-LOS! had better be dead! The showrunners have shilly-shallied in eliminating this mangy mad dog of a miscreant for long enough. My only regret is that his long-awaited demise didn’t bring Sappy and Jordan along for the ride amidst an unrelenting hail of bullets.

@Shay.
I really hope Carlos is gone too. For a while I thought he had a conscience. But, I must say, I was really getting really tired of his alligator tears and this suffocating dependence on Sabrina. Foe a mobster, he has no cojones.
Did GH always have Cosa Nostra storylines?

To any of you Mad Men fans–the actor who plays Carlos is in the finale playing a Meditation/Yoga leader.
The actor is really very good–perhaps too good for GH.

@CeeCee….For most of my viewing days, yes, Port Charles has had a major criminal element in its storylines, beginning with Luke and the Frank Smith organization, but I’d have to say that the level of violence and glorification of this mafioso lifestyle was not really brought to the fore until the arrival of our much-maligned Sonny. Coincidentally, his introduction marked my first-time departure as a GH regular. I cared not for Corinthos, Carly, Lily, Stone, Brenda, Jason….none of that bunch! Quite frankly, I only tuned in periodically to see AJ when he was played by Sean Kanan, and after his abrupt dismissal, it was a good while before I became fan again. Generally speaking, the ’90’s were not an enjoyable period in Port Charles from my perspective.

I’m in total agreement with U Shay, He had better go down for the count once and for all.
Imagine the irony in this scenario, Carrr-Los survives long enough to be wheeled into
General hospital, Patrick is the only Surgeon on duty, against all odds Patrick saves this
miserable cusses life. All the while unaware Carrr-Los is the one responsible for shooting
Duke in cold blood, until Anna delivers the news personally…

Yes guys & gals, I’m with you. I love Sam and Jake/Jakeson/Jason/Soldier Boy/Doe/Barnes/Morgan/Quartermaine! It’s my favorite s/l running. If I read 1 more time that Sam and Jakeson are not interested in each other, especially her, when she’s been looking at him doe-eyed for months, Imma need to break my computer! Everyone in PC keeps pointing out to Sam and/or look at her side-eyed when she melts down defending this Jake Doe: mom, dad, Patrick, Ric, even Dr. O sees it! Just not Liason fans or Jake Doe..Jake responds to Sam’s touch and has since her holding his hand and talking about Patrick pulled him out of his coma!!! She had her hands all over him Friday, but some folks are insisting it’s because nobody was there to yell “cut” because the show was live-good Lord!! On some level, they are drawn to each other, and she cares for, even loves Patrick and Jake cares for, even loves Liz.

Guess what? People can love, like, and/or crush on 2 people at once!! Doe can like Liz AND Sam. Sam can like Patrick and Doe. Good for us all the characters in this storyline are pure gold!! Great-looking, great chemistry (Sam and Jakeson are finally getting airtime and back to some of that fiery dialogue), good actors and popular fan faves:
Rebecca Herbst, Rebecca Budig, Tyler Christopher, Rick Hearst, Billy Miller, Laura Wright, Kelly Monaco, Jason Thompson….SNACK, CRACKLE, POP!!!!!

I will say this, if you didnt have respect for these daytime actors before, you will now. They were all great. Yes there were little parts that didnt come off perfect but its live, theater-like, living on the edge! It was fun to watch fro the miscues. If you are nitpicking you dont appreciate art! A word to the West coast, I feel sorry for you fans, I know it was breaking news but why give that evil scum bucket the privileged to interrupt our soaps, for that matter ANY network show! There are 10 zillion other ways to find out justice was served! Like I’ve said before, why the 24 hour news channels? News hounds will not be watching soaps, they will already be tuned into CNN or Fox. LEAVE THE SOAPS ALONE!

Right? Well phrased, Timmm. Love your post.

Always the voice of reason, Timmm!

Amen, Timmm! I’m a big trial watcher myself and understand the importance of this verdict, but I often feel like unless it’s 9/11 or something causing immediate danger to others, scroll it on screen-bottom. The verdict was way more important than, let’s say, the NFL apologizing over the Ray Rice trash that has interrupted programming as well, IMO, but I’m fine with giving this killer and his killer dead brother no more notoriety!!!! EVER!!!! #BostonStrong

Oh, Timmm! You took the words right out of my mouth. The Boston affiliate took the last 15 minutes out of Friday’s live GH for the Marathon Bomber verdict. I am not saying that this case isn’t important, but the verdict was not announced until after 3, meaning that instead of GH live, I got a bunch of talking news heads reiterating information I already knew, plus an aerial shot of the courthouse. In my area, we have had so much of this type of interruption recently (the Whitey Bulger trial, the major snow emergencies, the Aaron Hernandez trials) and it gets a little annoying.

Its not 1973 anymore, Americans are up to date on EVERYTHING! Quit breaking in on programs with news we already know, dont care to know or can see on the NEWS channels. It drives me crazy!

Same stuff here in NYC and its boroughs, Shrona.

I watched the first live east coast version and later the taped west coast version just to see how different they would be. The first live version had better performances, in the second version it seemed everyone took it down a notch in tone and emotions. The second version was better technically, it looked and sounded just like a regular show—

Plot wise, — this whole Nina getting married seemed to come out of the blue, so I’m looking forward to seeing what the heck that is about— I have a hard time believing Anna shot Carlos– if she wouldn’t kill Faison, a man that tormented her and her family for years, why would she kill a two bit thug like Carlos? I realized she is mourning Duke and not thinking clearly, but it seems way out of character for her to do such a thing– so perhaps there was another shooter and it only looked like she shot him.
I am hoping Jake learns the truth, but I suspect come Monday that conversation will be interrupted by Shawn trying to kill Jake—-

Overall, I liked the live show, as a novelty, but I am sure glad soaps are no longer live to air- you really appreciate something like editing when you don’t have it-LOL

Re: killing Carlos… she let the law handle Faison instead of killing him, and look at how that turned out. That character background, I think, easily played a part in Anna’s choice to succumb to passion by killing(?) Carlos to get justice for Duke’s death.

I think it was great how Finola took justice into her own hands. Julian murdered her and Duke’s unborn child…and Julian’s soldier took the life of the love of her life. Doesn’t matter whether she and Duke spent years apart or months apart since he’s been back…there was a deep, abiding soulmate love there. No matter how many times she was on the right side, the legal side, she never saw justice. There are crimes of passion…and hers was one. It was a great, powerful scene…Carlos shocked and still…holding his chest…staring in disbelief….Anna, wild-eyed and satisfied…revenge FINALLY hers.

Obviously there will be fallout, whether Carlos lives or dies. Either way, powerful scene, raw human emotions…

Exactly, Kevin …look at how that turned out, indeed. To quote Shakespeare ( whom I can recite up and down, left to right etc. lol)…..”Heat not a furnace so hot for your foe so hot that it do singe yourself”.

One more thing Mary SF…they say everyone is capable of murder given the right circumstances…

Look at all Anna’s been through. She thought her daughter, Robin had died in a horrific death. She grieved her for sooooooo long…

Duke comes back. She’s shocked…only to find out it’s not Duke, but Faison, the psycho who’s haunted and hounded her for years. She’s traumatized.

She goes to look for Robin. She doesn’t find her. Then, when on a lead, Scorpio, another love, gets gravely injured. She finds Robin…only they’re kidnapped again.

Then, Robin returns home. Then leaves. Again. She loves Patrick…loses him as a son-in-law even though they stay close.

She’s at her wits end re Faison. You can see she’s desperate to be rid of him and resorts to a horrible solution…basically burying him alive in a hole in the floor. So, already, you can tell she’s on the edge.

Now, after all that, Duke, who she truly loves and has loved all along, gets gunned down, just when the two of them have decided they can no longer be apart. After fighting their feelings, their conflicting life choices…they choose each other. And then bang, bang…Duke’s dead.

She was ready to shoot Jason in police holding. No surprise that she’d blow Carlos away…

It will be Alexis or Diane to the rescue when the time’s right…

I don’t know, I’m still having a hard time buying it. Just a few hours before she seemed so shock and appalled that Duke would order a hit on Jordan, and took comfort in the fact that he was trying to call it off. Then to do such a 180, to suddenly decide it is okay to murder someone in cold blood– I just don’t buy it, no matter how grieved she was, I just don’t buy the Anna I’ve seen on screen all these years would do it. I can see her tempted, I understand her thinking about it, but to actually do it— but in the end a character can and will do anything a writer makes then do, so I guess the question is would Ron decide Anna would do something like that and I guess we’ll find out Monday.

Loved it when Anna told Carlos to go to HELL, took aim and
shot him. Justice Served!!!

Mary SF, I think Carlos taunting her & his lack of remorse is what sent her over the edge. She was just going to arrest him at 1st. Then he does what all the mobsters & hitmen do in Port Charles: start waxing poetic. BOOM!! BYE!!

okay, just saw the live show, and i honestly thought it was going to be bad mainly because it started out with michele stafford and it was bad, it took a few scenes with the other actors on the show and then it was game on, everyone brought their A game, but Michelle Stafford acted even to out of balance for Nina, again i love the actress, but Franco and Nina were two characters whose “story” seem so out of place in todays episode especially considering every other character on today had to do with Jake/Duke story. So glad Anna shot Carlos, but the blood splattering on her, was freaky, and for a trained former spy, she seem so weird in the way she shot Carlos and just stood there like it was her first time ever shooting someone. Then when the credits roled and Lily Melgar was just standing there with a big grin, they sure took forever to cue her to say her lines, but it was funny especially when Maurice and Billy came out at the end too…

It looked like everyone had fiun, no major misshaped, but I’m sure if it did the show and actors would of loved it, that’s the stuff that gets remembered. Like SNL when the actors mess up and break character one can tell they have fun with it so kudos to everyone and can’t wait till Monday hopefully someone will mess up in fun .

In the first version 1pm/2pmetz, Sam messed up one of her lines, and Nick smiled on a serious scene. Also a mirror moved on the wall.

I am guessing the second show this was addresses

Were there TWO live shows?

Yes, one for East coast one for central. I live central but GH comes on at 1

East coast live show Sam messed up when she tried to say “Change Oil.”

I don’t understand how Cassidines and Duke can be killed off so many times and come back but they can’t find a way to bring back Alan Quartermaine!

I think GH should be in the Guinness Book of World Records for the TV show with the greatest number of characters that have come back from the dead (some more than once)!

That being said, as much as I also like Alan Quartermaine, judging from the last time Stuart Damon was on, I doubt the actor’s age and health would allow him to return again…

Maybe……….. But I truly think DOOL is the winner in that area. Years ago during the Salem Strangler story almost EVERY cast member was killed off over about a years time.. That led to the Melaswen (NewSalem<) Story where the killed actors were actually living. And that was just that year.. They are known for reviving the dead.

Taelyn: Good point about DOOL! I guess all soaps are guilty of overusing this plot device, often simply because an actor decides to return. But it defies credulity, and it gets old…

Not sure about Stuart’s health but he is 78 years old now.

I thought the live episode was quite good. Because of Rebecca Herbst’s revelation that she was nervous to do the live show, I kept waiting for her to mess up her lines! But, I didn’t notice that she had — quite the pro!! I did notice Kelly Monaco say “change order” instead of “change oil”, but she recovered immediately. Nice save. All in all, it was a refreshing change of pace. Good job GH cast and crew!

She did recover by correcting herself. I loved it because it was a live show and she is a pro!

Loved the entire episode.
One thing for sure, the intense scenes with Jake and Sam proved without a shred of doubt that Billy Miller and Kelly Monaco have AMAZING on screen chemistry. This is what I’ve been waiting to see. Yep. They’ve got “it”.
Kudos to the entire GH cast and crew. They did a beautiful job.

Agreed. I am anxious awaiting Them finding out his Identity.. And then the story of them finding their Love again. Clearly when Jake finds out he is Jason that wont mean he just up and Loves Sam, He thinks he is falling for Liz. I look forward to him rediscovering WHY he fell for Sam.

I loved it. Looked like everyone was enjoying themselves and on top of their game. Although it highlighted weaknesses in GM’s abilities & MS’ hammy OTP performances.

I taped GH at 2 pm CST and they censored Carlos in his scene with Julian. I’m curios why?

Overall I am very impressed and highly entertained. Thanks & kudos GH. Looking forward to Monday.

CORRECTION I tape GH at 1 pm CST

I thought it was a digital TV blip, didn’t think he was censored. but you may be right. I hate digital TV. In analog the sound and picture were better synchronized and there were not the falling apart of the signal where the picture gets all discombobulated on the screen.

I’m really going to miss JVP as Carlos.

That makes ONE of us!

Carlos was a character not very well written but the actor who plays him is very good. He was wasted with Sabrina and inconsistent writing

Here, here, Timmm! But Harry does have a point. The character of Carrrr-LOS! was terribly written. He was over-melodramatic, violence-crazed and always looked in need of a shower—even when he just emerged from one— not to mention that his attachment to the insipid, immature Sappy made him a joke from the start. JVP’s talent deserved far better than the cardboard cutout of a mad dog hitman that he was handed.

SHARRY, you like that? I am fair and I will give you both credit for good points. He was only as good as the writing and he was hitched to Ugly Betty! She will drag Michael down, as well!

You speak the truth there, Timmm! Sappy has the uncanny ability to bring down any poor sap shackled to her character. She made Carrrrrr-LOS! look like a complete, emasculated fool despite his alpha-hitman tendencies. Hence, I was glad to see him go, and at the hands of the absolutely Divine Devane, no less! That was the icing on the cake!

I loved the East Coast Live Show more because Maurice and Lilly did a bomb skit and then they embraced. It was very cute and entertaining.

I loved it too. But how does one see the other version?

I was able to see multiple versions only because I have DIRECT TV.

Does any one else have Direct TV?

I can’t be the only one.

Hulu has the westcoast version.

The Interruption by ABC news was unCalled FOR!!! Another Slap in the face by The honchos at ABC network. I guess they dont want GH to succeed, this will definatelydefinately affect GH ratings next week 🙁

ABC news did not interrupt my viewing in Florida. Could it have been a local thing or the choice of the local station. I am the same time zone as Boston, but had no interruption. In fact, there was a preview of the five o’clock news after the show and they didn’t even mention that.

Yes, im in Mountain timezone and the Special Report was about the Shooting Verdict in Boston.

I was lucky enough to see “all three” shows.

2:00pm – Live (Florida)
3:00pm – Live (New York)
5:00pm – Taped (California)

When Frank V said they were going live at 2pm and 3pm I thought that was awesome.

To the Cast and Crew on camera and off, I think “you all” did a great job. Keep up the good work. (Frank, you can exhale now LOL)

Side Note to ABC TV NYC: Must you “ALWAYS” interrupt GH???

Special Thanks to “DIRECT TV” for making it possible for me to see all three episodes.

Remember: GH Rocks…

There were THREE live shows? I had no idea? How can I see them all?

No. Just TWO live shows.

If you have DIRECT TV try the ON DEMAND feature and see if that helps.
You ‘ll have to wait about week , they don’t replay shows on the same day.

I am so confused 🙁 I read that the east coast version was taped for later for the west coast to view so the show should be exactly the same right? 🙂

Hi Patty, I know this is confusing but I hope this helps. Here is a quote from Frank Valentini:

“We made it very challenging for production. Including the fact that for “both” live episodes, we are “performing them twice” – once at 2 p.m. EST and again at
3 p.m. EST – with only about 90 seconds to reset everything.”
This info came from ABC Soaps in Depth Magazine page 19 the May 25 issue.

Frank also talks about “the May Sweeps stunt to end all May Sweeps stunts!

I hope this helps.

The east coast version was live. I think the west coast version was a taped live version.

I thoroughly enjoyed the first live 2PM version, glitches, warts & all! I thought it went well, was entertaining & I am looking forward to Monday. I could feel the excitement of the performances, and am sorry if that was lacking for the other 2 showings; perhaps GH could just tape that one to show on Monday?

I echo the above suggestion: Alan Quartermaine would be nice to see turning the end of show credits. I enjoyed the whole Lily surprise/silly bomb scenario at the end of the show, too.

Kudos, and break a leg again come Monday, cast & crew!

I thought the cast did a wonderful job during the live episode, with one big exception: the Jordan/Sloane scene. It felt very awkward, with the overhead camera shots, and lack of any real, meaningful conversation between them. Also, while I do like Grayson McCouch and thought he was great on ATWT, he’s awful on GH. He really overacted, and practically yelled his lines in this episode, and the character of Sloan is unneeded. The whole scene felt like both GM and Vinessa Antoine were fumbling.

Other than that, the rest of the show was great. I loved Nina and Franco, and even though the character of Hayden is wracking my nerves, I was amazed by Rebecca Budig’s performance. She was very natural, and she really owned those scenes. Of course, Finola Hughes was fantastic as usual, and so were Billy Miller and Kelly M. The Sonny/Julian/Shawn scene was also done well, even with its few minor mishaps.

Also, while I am sad about losing JVP as Carlos, I knew GH would kill him off at some point, especially after he killed Duke. That sealed his fate. Plus, the character was not needed, nor vital to story. Of all the characters involved in the mob story, it was Carlos that was most expendable and that I figured would die. Unfortunately, he took Duke out before he could be stopped.

I got the 3pm episode here in New Jersey, so I’m gonna have to see if the 2pm version is online somewhere. For the most part, it felt like a normal episode of GH.

I do think it’s a shame that well known ad libbers like Tony Geary and Kin Shriner weren’t on the live show, would have loved to see them throw in some of their famous ad libs, and see the reactions.

I know she’s a very polarizing character, some love her, some hate her, but I think Michelle Stafford is a riot as Nina. Loved the scenes with her and Roger Howarth. Thought the scenes with Tyler Christopher, Rebecca Herbst and Rebecca Budig were well done, as well.

Finola Hughes shined the most on this show. She’s just one of those classic actresses that does an awesome job whether it’s live, taped, whatever, she always rises to the occasion, and given her some meaty material again, which is great to see.

Great touch having Lilly Melgar do the credit cue cards at the end of the show. I can’t even tell you how many people I know that watch the show now, but weren’t watching the last time she was on in 1996, that had to ask me who she was, lol. It was a nice tip of the hat to longtime GH viewers.

Kudos to the cast and crew for pulling this off without anything noticeable going wrong. Especially doing a shooting scene live, which has to be tough with the special effects required for a stunt like that, with the prop gun and the stage blood, it all came off seamless. Look forward to doing it all again on Monday!

I also live in NJ and found that Hulu has the west coast version your seeking.

Friday’s LIVE Show should leave Frank pleased and relieved, Minor
glitches didn’t take away from some Excellent Performances.
Namely: Maurice, Finola, William, Billy, Kelly, and of course Roger.
I understand due to the existing story lines & time constraints some
Favorites were excluded, however adding Kathleen G.and Maura W.would
have turned it into a HOME RUN for me.

Completely agree that watching Kathleen Gati work live would have been a real treat. Maybe she’ll be on Monday!

One can only hope.

Hi Sly, thank u so much for the info I totally get it!

Cool…
Your welcome.

I enjoyed the live show. Some soaps were live years ago; I remember watching at about 7 or 8 years old . That was from 1957 . If I’m not mistaken, As the World Turns, Guiding Light, and Love of Life were done live.
Keep up the good work , G.H.

Carlos has been out of control for months. Did you see the size of his, um, “rifle” as Hayden called it when he tried to set Jake up for Duke’s murder by borrowing their hotel room? He blew a hole through Ava, then Duke. Lied over & over to Sabrina. He had it coming! I don’t always like Anna and sick of mob violence but I would like to bow and Anna’s feet for that present!! Loved Finola’s and Jeffrey’s crazy eyes after she shot!!! Soapy, soap good!!!

Carlos is alive…sorta. In case you missed it Jeffrey Vincent Parise was a therapy leader at a retreat Don Draper was at in the Madmen finale.

I loved the live episode. I thought the actors did a great job-could hardly tell it was a live episode, flowed pretty well. One question, why was Detective Sloan recast? The recast doesn’t appear to be working-IMO. His lines always appear very forced and over-acted. In the live episode, I think this is very apparent.

I just watched the two versions today. I watched the east coast version which I believe is the first version on Comcast On Demand. It’s also on youtube. Hulu has the westcoast version.

WAY too much time wasted on Frodd & Nina. Completely useless characters and not at all needed in the live episodes. Aside from that…

Anna killing Carrrrrrlllllllos – most unholy.

Greenlee….err…Hayden getting shot right before she can tell the truth about Jakeson – predictably lame. Now I suppose she’s going to be in a coma in the hospital, and Liz will pull the plug or shoot something in her IV, right.

And poor Shawn… not only is he the worst hitman in the history of organized crime, but he got arrested by his own girlfriend.

LOL…”most unholy”? …coming from Satan?…OK, KIDDING!!! But, I agree, …..Anna did a bad thing, albeit well-deserved.
Seriously, though…I had a feeling Hayden would never have been given the chance to divulge what she knew…yeah, it was lame.
I do not like Shawn….. Got what he deserved. However, it was not his bullet that hit Hayden. It was so fast, I wasn’t even aware a shot had been fired.
Nikolas is the culprit. I am shocked!!!!! He is no better than Julian and Company or Sonny and Company. I am done with him.
Then there’s Carly. She was amazing today. Through all her pleading, and crying to Sonny, she said…” Jake is not who you think”. Am I reading too much into those words, or does she know who Jake really is, also? Hmmm…

Carly doesn’t know who Jakeson is, but she DOES know that he’s not really working for the Jerome mob, and was coerced into working undercover for Sloane.

Of course all of these characters are being written as complete idiots right now. Carly, Sonny, Sam…. the three people who know Jason better than anybody, and they have certainly seen enough to put it together. Liz too, before Nik dropped the bomb on her.

When does Little Danny start speaking in complete sentences? He recognized his daddy when he was still wrapped up like a mummy. Which is pretty remarkable considering he got to spend an entire 24 hours with his daddy before Jason took a dive into the river.

You are too funny, but succinct and to the point.
So, is it going to take a little child to KNOW who Jake really is?
I had said, back when Jake first made an entrance in PC, that I found it strange how his lovers, and friends, or his mother (if she were ever around) not recognize any gestures, behavior or little nuances particular to Jason.
I had also said that once he slept with these three women, they would certainly REALLY KNOW with whom they were ‘dirty-dancing’…..well, you know,LOL. But, Lizzie beat me to the punch, as it were.
….which reminds me…..I have lost all respect for Liz. She is no better than Rick….and she slapped HIM? …..with sanctimonious disdain? BAH!!! LOL.

I liked both live shows, monday episode was like a taped episode meaning the cast in my view didn’t make mistakes that was good. I hope in the future they will go live for 5 episode so that almost all cast can go live like the with OLTL live week. Friday episode was the funniest because mistakes were done but this live tv anything can happen. May 19, back with taped episodes.

Love Finola Hughes…the live shows really demonstrate her amazing abilities…so robbed at the Emmy awards.

Nancy Lee Grahn’s Star-Studded ALS Fundraiser Reveals “I’ll Be There” Video Featuring Soap Opera Notables

Talk about your impressive line-up! It’s a soap fans dream and for a great cause. General Hospital’s Nancy Lee Grahn (Alexis Davis) is prepping her one-night only ALS fundraiser which will feature many of her friends and co-stars.

The benefit is set for May 4th in Glendale, California. Slated to participate are Genie Francis, Jane Elliot, Peter Bergman, Maurice Benard, Eileen Davidson, Thorsten Kaye, Michelle Stafford, Stephen Nichols, Rena Sofer, Jason Thompson, Kelly Monaco, Melissa Claire Egan, Maura West, Kristina Wagner, Gregory Harrison, Trevor St. John, Kate Mansi, Kirsten Storms, Cynthia Watros, and many others.

On Wednesday, Grahn took to her social media and released an “I’ll be there” video shout-out featuring, Monaco, Elliot, Bergman, Bernard, West, Harrison, St. John and more. In a touching and important moment in the new video, Michelle Strogny, who is battling ALS, is featured.

Photo: ABC

Previously, in speaking with Soap Opera Digest on the impetus of the event, Grahn recalled, “I was actually doing Zoom events during Covid and I met this woman that I just fell in love with, Michelle Strojny. At the time, Michelle had been living with ALS for four years. Now, it’s five years. She is a mom of a teenage son, she has the most wonderful husband, and she has been dealing with this [disease] for quite a while. And obviously, there isn’t a cure yet. It’s not survivable yet. But as she says, it’s not incurable. Nothing is; it’s underfunded. But anyway, I just really dug this woman. She is so grounded and filled with grace, and she spends all of her time working to raise money for the cause. We did a fundraiser for her last year and then I thought, ‘You know what? The soaps don’t ever get together to do something for charity.’ Collectively, we have this amazing community and we don’t collectively use it for a good cause, and I think it’s such an easy thing for us to do and we could potentially really make a difference.”

As GH viewers know, Gregory Harrison is playing the character of Gregory Chase, who is also battling ALS in a touching storyline that is currently playing out shedding a light on this disease.

For information on Nancy’s event, including the stars who are s scheduled to participate click here. To purchase tickets to the event click here.

Check out the video featuring Nancy’s friends and co-stars below.  Now let us know, your thought son the line-up for the benefit and helping raise awareness and funds for ALS research via the comment section.

‘General Hospital’ Writer Shannon Peace Let Go, and Shares on Sprina: “One of My Only Regrets is to Not Have the Opportunity to Develop That ‘Ship’ Further”

As General Hospital’s new head writing team of Elizabeth Korte and Patrick Mulcahy gets off the ground and running, there are still changes a foot on the writing team.

Now comes word via breakdown writer Shannon Peace that she is no longer on contract with the long-running ABC soap heading into its 61st season. Peace shared a heartfelt message on her Instagram, thanking the fans, and the show for the opportunity and the importance of diversity in the writers room.

Peace began, “After almost 3 years on staff and 106 episodes penned, I am no longer on contract with General Hospital. Writing for this country’s longest running television serial drama has been an education of epic proportions; I will forever be grateful that I earned my WGA card on a daytime fixture that holds memories for so many.” (Peace pictured below with GH EP Frank Valentini and script writer, Charlotte Gibson from about ten months ago).

Shannon added “Even more importantly, as the sole Black breakdown writer (and only POC in the writers room) during my tenure, I pushed for vital interactions and discussions that prioritized inclusion, visibility, and representation”

The writer pointed to the example of vital interaction when in story, “Stella and Portia’s frank July 2022 conversation about the role race played in Esme’s framing of Trina is just one example of the impact I’m gratified to have had.”

Acknowledging former GH co-head writers was also part of Peace’s farewell expressing, “Appreciation to my former bosses, Chris Van Etten and Dan O’Connor – not only taking a chance on me, but for valuing my opinion and championing my voice.”

Many GH fans know that Peace was key to the development of the love story between Trina Robinson and Spencer Cassadine as played by Tabyana Ali and Nicholas Chavez. Shannon gave a special shout-out to ‘Sprina’ fans, “I also want to thank fans who were supportive of my work, especially the recognition of my love for ‘Sprina’. One of my only regrets is not having to develop that ‘ship’ further.”

She concludes her statement with,”In the aftermath of a historic writer’s strike that shed new light on the troubling ways writers are regarded in daytime, my sincere hope is that General Hospital recommits to valuing staff writer efforts and input, with a more intentional focus on diverse viewpoints — and thrives for another 60 years.”

Accompanying her post, Shannon added, “Thank you all for the love and support these last few years. I hope GH fans get all they hope for and more!”

So, what do you think about GH not renewing Shannon’s contract? Will there be more continued changes afoot? What do you think is the future of ‘Sprina’ anyway at this point as viewers wait to see if Nicholas Chavez officially returns to the show?  Comment below.

GENERAL HOSPITAL: Jason Learns Britt Died and Tells Anna He Has Been Working For Cates Since November 2021

On the Tuesday, March 26th of General Hospital, Anna (Finola Hughes) and the viewers learn about where Jason (Steve Burton) has been for over two and half years. However, Jason gets some news of his own.

Anna is visiting Jason at the PCPD interrogation room. She asks him if he shot Dante (Dominic Zamprogna), which he flatly denies. Anna believes him, but she tells Jason it doesn’t matter, because video footage shows him on the roof at the time of the shooting

When talk turns to Jason not willing to speak without his lawyer present, Anna can’t grasp why Jason would instead spend an hour alone talking with John Cates (Adam J. Harrington).

Photo: ABC

It is then that Anna brings up that John went by “Jagger” and that the two of them knew each other in high school. Jason doesn’t recall much of his time in high school following his brain injury, but then he gets furious realizing John knew about “Jason’s” past. That is when Jason slams the table and tells Anna, “I’ve been working for John Cates since November 2021.”

Next, Jason explains further that he has been working as an informant for the FBI. Anna wants to know how this came about and he tells her that after the tunnel collapsed, and he couldn’t make it to Britt (Kelly Thiebaud)… all of a sudden he sees Anna’s face drop.  Anna is the first person to tell him that Britt died and was murdered. She tells Jason the killer is in custody, but he continues to be shocked, overwhelmed with tears welling up in his eyes. Realizing he has to pivot to save his life, Jason continues telling Anna how he wound up working with John.

Jason explains that after the tunnel collapse in Greece, FBI agents grabbed him and placed him under arrest and took him to Quantico where he met John. At Quantico, John played a recording of RICO violations and offered Jason a deal if he agreed to be an informant against Pikeman, the illegal arms dealer.

Anna hears from Jason that he thinks Pikeman is selling illegal arms to anyone flagged by the NSA but has ties to the WSB which they needed a civilian to infiltrate their organization as a military soldier, a mercenary.

Jason tells Anna he was a part of the team brought into eliminate Sonny (Maurice Benard). Every time an attempt was made on Sonny’s life over the last two years, a different team was sent to do the job. Anna gets furious when she learns that John told Jason his job was to kill Sonny and she was with John at the warehouse that night. Jason ensured the sniper missed Sonny and left the rifle behind. However, they were supposed to meet an extraction team. Before he was shot, Dante saw it was Jason on the roof and when he turned around with his hands over his head, Dante was shot by the other guy. Jason says if Dante dies, he’ll be charged with capital murder and then will be useless to the FBI.

Photo: ABC

Meanwhile, John visits Bobbie’s and runs into Carly (Laura Wright). She learns Jason is in custody and is going to head to the PCPD. Before she does, Carly has some words with Cates when she learns not only does John have a vendetta against Sonny, but Jason too.  Carly tells John he should recuse himself from the case.

So, what did you think about the moment when Jason learned Britt died? What do you think of Jason’s return storyline thus far and what we learned about Jagger/Jason and more? Comment below. But first, check out a moment from today’s GH with Jason and Anna.
