GENERAL HOSPITAL: The Verdict Is Read In The Case Of Julian Jerome!

Courtesy/ABC

Before the judge read the verdict in the case of Julian Jerome (William deVry) on Tuesday’s episode of General Hospital, all the key parties were sent a text message to get back to the courtroom as the jury had reached their decision.

Once Sonny (Maurice Benard) and Carly (Laura Wright), Alexis (Nancy Lee Grahn) and Olivia (Lisa LoCicero), and Griffin (Matt Cohen) all arrived to the courthouse, it was time for Julian Jerome’s day of reckoning.  But it turned out to be nothing like that at all!

As Julian and his lawyer Scott Baldwin (Kin Shriner) stood to hear the jurors verdicts from the judge, here is what was read: “The first count of solicitation, the jury finds the defendant not guilty.  On the second count, the charge of theft of evidence, the jury finds the defendant not guilty.  On the third count, obstruction of justice, the jury finds the defendant, Julian Jerome, not guilty.  On the fourth count, conspiracy to commit murder on one Duke Lavery, a human being, the jury finds the defendant, Julian Jerome, not guilty.  On the fifth count, the murder of Carlos Rivera, a human being, the jury finds the defendant not guilty. And finally as to the last count, the attempted murder of Alexis Davis, a human being, the jury finds the defendant Julian Jerome, not guilty.”

And with that, Julian is acquitted for murdering Carlos, the attempted murder of his wife, Alexis, and ordering the hit that killed Duke!  The courtrooom is incensed.  Alexis is hysterical and can’t breathe, Olivia screams out in disbelief, Griffin is dejected and up and leaves the courtroom, and Sonny is glaring mad as he stares down at Julian.  However, Ava (Maura West) is smug with happiness as her blackmail of Paul Hornsby (Richard Burgi) worked to get her brother exonorated of all charges.

Alexis heads to a bar to calm herself down after the verdict, and over the man that tried to kill her going free, and her botching her own testimony (with a major assist from whatever Paul Hornsby gave her in the water she drank).  It was her testimony that helped throw the trial in the wrong direction.  As Alexis drinks, she goes over her testimony and what she was planning on saying, and she can’t figure out what happened to her thus driving anyone to drink … and drink.

In the courtroom as Julian begins to make his exit pass Sonny and Carly, he utters to Sonny, “You want justice? I guess justice was served.”  But, Sonny tells him justice will be served when he sees him in hell.

After the trial, Ava finds Paul in the park and thanks him for saving her brother, but let’s him know if anything should happen to her, there is a letter that will go straight to the authorities.  Ava askes Paul, why is he killing innocent people who are complete strangers to him?  She doesn’t understand why.  He refuses to explain, but he notes that he understands her need to protect her family intimating that is what he is actually doing.  Ava suggests that Paul stop the killings before someone else figures it out, and that he gets out of Port Charles immediately.

And lastly, it appears that Claudette (Bree Williamson) has a daughter and she needs Nathan’s (Ryan Paevey) help from some other guy in her life who has been tracking her from prison.  Nathan wants nothing to do with her and doesn’t trust her.  Will he help her? Is Nathan or Griffin the potential bio-dad here? More to come.

So, what did you think of the verdict in the case of Julian Jerome? Are you pissed off he got off on all charges? Are you glad Julian is a free man? Share your thoughts in the comment section below!

Oooh god help! the tension the suspense the utter shock of the verdict has given me a stroke!..
It was such a huge surprise whoa I never saw that coming!
ooh please please please! No more shockers!
I can not handle the Climax !
0oo0oo lord! I have never been climaxed as the shocker of the verdict; Julian is free!

People !!! people !! CALM DOWN ! take slow breaths and the relax, the shock of the verdict will soon be controllable and you’ll be able to breath easy.

I’m so sorry that Jean and Shelly have caused you to stroke-out from the high intense climaxing drama!!

WHEW HUH ! what a surprise!

I loved it, SuzieQ. I must admit that it was suspenseful….all of it!! The expressions on everyone’s faces….all on cue.
Alexis was perfection. I really thought she was going to have a heart attack. Where were her children for moral support? Where was her best friend? But Sonny and Carly were there?
Sonny??????
He, who calls the kettle black? He, whose sooo frighteningly demonic stare was supposed to wither Julian? Not so much.
Olivia, hmmm….somewhat harsh towards Alexis. But, I guess it was the frustration that drove her. Weird to me that Olivia was there for Alexis and not those closest to her.
But, I really was not so surprised. As I said a couple of days ago. I suspected Julian would walk. Where does Alexis go from here. Will she barricade herself in the house?
I hope the writers take her down a constructive road…..none of this woe-be-me thing for too long.
It is expected for Alexis to retreat into herself and ‘mourn’ for a time. But, I will be sooo disappointed if she goes into an emotionally frozen state to a place of no return. As women, we are a tough lot….especially Alexis, who’s been through so much.
Yet, it would be understandable if she did BECAUSE of all the trauma in her life.
Good stuff!! Kudos!!

A shocking twist would had been that Julian actually was found guilty and actually went to prison…bummer!!!

it wasnt a shock to me…who goes to prison on GH for murder-maybe if your innocent…guilty people like Ava, Sonny and Julian ect. never really do prison time…its lame and predictable GH writing once again…no need to take a deep breath here…only a yawn-and rolling of eyes-lol

Jim, what the heck are these writers thinking…or are they thinking at all? Don’t we see enough miscarriages of justice in real life? Ava skating on Connie’s murder still leaves a bad taste with me, and now THIS? Between this and Sabrina’s violent death, I’m ready to tune out. Right now, only my Billy Miller obsession is keeping me watching . Well, that and the meager time they give Tracy. Oy.

You are right,: su0000, what a farce!

sarcasm?

LOL Su…I agree. It wasn’t a shock…I get that you’re frustrated with the predictability) but I do agree with CeeCee. I thought Alexis’s (expected and understandable) reaction…and Nancy’s acting made it worth it.) I like seeing Nancy in the forefront of story; she’s really giving it all emotionally.

When you think GH has hit rock bottom, they dig deeper. Have had enough and will not be watching anymore

I mean, bad!

This verdict was HORRIBLE! More insult to injury, it wasn’t even an episode cliffhanger, it just played out in bad fashion during a regular episode. Everything about this was just BAD! The biggest disappoint is that there seems to be no justice insight for a legacy character. The best thing to come out of this verdict that Anna wasn’t there to witness this slideshow.

Oh, Ck, I feel your pain. It was a disgusting plot turn and an insult to longtime viewers. Granted, it gave Nancy Lee another bravura acting chance and, boy, did she deliver. But that’s not a reason to frustrate us AGAIN. Ava skating on Connie is bad enough and now she’s manipulating a sick kid’s mental health and, possibly, his life so her daughter can be saved a few Boo-hoos? The Jerome siblings are two irredeemably sick people and their Teflon Tactics are ruining the show for me.

Soap hound…Julian getting off was not surprise, and Nancy has been superb. Wonder why no one like detective daughter Sam, or the police commish wouldn’t have checked what Alexis had been drinking? It’s not that I love the Morgan character, but I am furious as to what they are letting Ava do to him. And now Julian egging him on in Kelly’s. Sonny also has been Teflon for too many long years. Again why are he and Carly not more alarmed at Morgan’s recent behaviour? It’s not as if they don’t know the red flags.

Totally agree, it was pitiful. Some intelligence in the writing would have AT LEAST had a hung jury as an outcome. Now Julian will be following Alexa around, wanting to reconcile. She’ll become an alcoholic… And we have to wait for Anna to come back to figure out Hornsby is the killer. And the “oh Nathan, you’re a daddy…” storyline. That’s been played too many times = boring. Someone please, just wake me up when it’s over.

This trial was what was criminal from the get-go. I don’t understand why the PCPD always have to be written as being so willing to arrest someone based on the flimsiest of reason. The DA takes the case to trial and the character-du-jour on trial is either convicted or not based solely on the will of the writers who are too lame to write an intelligent story.

Why can’t the writers take the time to research and write a criminal story that would allow their police to look like competent officers of the law, like good crime investigators, competent attorneys? The lazy writing just to move plot along really makes the characters look stupid and is insulting to the viewers.

Yeah, I know they wrote Julian into a corner when they had him stab Carlos and put a knife to Alexis’ throat. I will give them an “out” because they did have him try to call off the hit on Duke. (Killing him off was a HUGE mistake.) But when he actually got his hands dirty, he should have gone to jail. Instead of showing that crime doesn’t pay, the writers have once again shown that it does if they like your character. ~ Guess they didn’t lie Steven Lars since he went to jail years after the fact for manslaughter.

The only moment, (which only lasted thirty seconds), of suspense came when Julian told Ava that the jurors might use Sabrina’s death against him. Um, yeah, not so much.

I like having Ava blackmailing Paul into throwing the case, but having Paul so easily drug Alexis and no one in the courtroom noticing the sudden change in her or even act concerned, was blatantly dismissive; an over-sight. Paul and Scott’s questions and grandstanding were those of fourth-graders, not educated attorneys. Like I said, the trail was a sham.

They can only redeem a portion of this travesty by having Jordan research it and find that someone switched out the wire-tap warrant, by having someone trace back Alexis’ change in behavior to her drinking that water Paul gave her, and having Alexis or Sonny rail at Paul for not putting her back on the stand after she regained her composure. Maybe Anna will come back, tie everything together and give Paul the swift kick he deserves.

And one last thing…Please stop writing such lame stories. The plotting and the dialogue, especially, are so weak. Just turn it up a couple notches. Will ya?

You said it in a nutshell: “the trial was criminal.”!

I hope you’re right, Rodd. I would love Anna to swoop in and right these wrongs. Jordan will only do what she does best…arrest Jason or Franco with no cause, evidence, or common sense. And then race off for a mani-pedi with that perennial smirk on her face.

Totally ridiculous. The writers need to go. GH has become incredibly stupid and boring. The whole Jerome trial showed what a bunch of morons the cops and lawyers of Port Chuck are. Want to plan any mjrder and get away with it? Head to Port Charles.

You are absolutely right, Marko. I did call it another Mickey Mouse trial, a few days ago. But, the acting was very good, if not exceptional. I expected so much less….but, awaiting the verdict, as stupid as the proceedings were, was suspenseful for me.
Perhaps I wanted to prove myself wrong in that Julian would be found ‘not guilty’.

Well, ABC is owned by Disney!

Bad news Marko, the writers just signed a new contract!

Claudettes baby daddy-Valentin Cassidine….of course Julian isnt going to prison-there will be a who shot and killed Julian Jerome-and its Paul!

Hmmmm. A very welcoming thought, Jimmy. But, do you really think it will happen? I do not think William is going anywhere, albeit Sonny and not Paul may try…..
I did say that there was either a baby or hiding from a criminal. Both turned out to be the case. I am, however, sick of these baby stories. Not the babies, lol, just the stories.

Sorry, Jimmy. My last little paragraph referred to Claudette. I think it is very possible for her to lie and say her daughter is either Natan’s of Griffin’s. Valentin’s? Hey, could be. One never knows!!

Well, even if i did say who killed Julian story…the predictable twist would be he isnt dead…

All of this validates my decision in June 2015 to stop watching this idiotic show. None of what I just read above is good storytelling nor is it good soap. It doesn’t even sound interesting. It just sounds… stupid.

I’ve said it before, I’ll say it again: canceling this show would be a mercy killing for fans. Sorry – I used to think that this show could be saved.. but no more. Glad I got out when I did so I can hold on to at least a little memory of the show it used to be and the show it could have still become.

This makes me sad 🙁 But I understand how you feel.

Andrew, I am still hanging on a little bit.
I did fast forward through the whole court scene. I rarely watch an entire episode of GH anymore. You might want to give Y&R a chance–it’s been on fire lately

So base on posting you feel validated that you stopped watching the show, lol, ok, and you fell compell to let us all that are “still” watching that the show should be cancelled too, well Andrew you must be special? Hey everyone let’s stop watching GH Andrew took the time to let us who do watch know how bad it is.. but seriously I hate this storyline too but there’s other stories and characters that keep me and others watching, when I hear from posters like you I always ask why do they bother to post if they are just giving up? GH I don’t think still has the right writers writing for the show but I’m not giving up if you have wish I doubt, then really move on. GH will survive !

Well, my dear, I will comment as long as I want to.

Comment boards are here for people to express their opinions and that’s what I’m doing.

I guess we should all be grateful that Aria is here to grace us with your opinion about who is allowed to comment and who is not.

Aria, please send us all a detailed list of who is able to comment and who is not because I’m sure Michael Fairman would appreciate your oh so expert opinion on the matter since he’s not able to figure that out on his own.

How can you be a fan of a show and “Quit” watching it? You take the good with the bad. I hope GH stays on another 50 years!

I know GH is not a legal drama, but I would rather them just skip the court room if THIS is how they’re going to do a trial.

I know, AJ. I only wish they’d thrown in a shot of the judge doing a crossword puzzle while Scott chewed the scenery…again.

Was GH always like this, Andrew? That is, as far as a courtroom trial is concerned? Yes, the actors did very well, in my opinion. I believed their facial expressions, for what it’s worth. As I said, I expected a ‘flush’….. But, I was surprised, if not by the verdict ( julian being found ‘not guilty’ was a given for me), but by the good acting….regardless of the fact that the trial was a farce.
As far as Scotty; I just like this guy so much, I do not know what to say; except that every word, every gesture cracks me up. Is this typically his Modus Operandi? LOL.

CeeCee…I agree. Alexis was very moving in her devastation, as well as her frustration at the bar because as a lawyer (and as the victim) she KNEW what to say, she KNEW she had a good shot at convicting him by at least causing the jury to doubt him, to sympathize with her…and yet she couldn’t because she was drugged. Unless someone realizes she was (drugged) this may cause her to doubt herself even more, blame herself…very well done. There was no way to draw out three theatrics of the courtroom because it was a slam dunk. We already knew Paul was going to throw the case…therefore he couldn’t ask the questions that the posters seem to have wanted. We, as viewers, already knew going in that he wasn’t going for the win. The safest way to “lose” the case was to let Alexis ramble, have Scotty make a few points and be done. Anfpd that’s what he did. Worked for me.

I’ve always loved Scotty. And yes, he was always a lovable, smart goofball but is another character that barely gets respect (though he has had his share of devoted romantic partners…Bobby, Lucy, Laura…though she chose Luke over him and others). Pisses me off, the lack of respect. .But he could care less…LOL

The theatrics not three theatrics

GH has always been campy at times. Like I told AJ, I give GH credit for showing the trial. I to LOVE Scotty. He has always been off-center and thats why I wish him and Freako had more father and son scenes. Those two play well off each other.

I know. Isn’t that sad? I remember when soap courtroom scenes were riveting must-see-tv. I miss those days. And its not about expensive sets, so I don’t get it. It’s like they’ve given up or just don’t care. Y&R’s courtroom scenes have been just as disappointing recently.

I agree that skipping it all together might be preferable to showing the audience you just don’t care anymore so why even pretend? It’s insulting.

MB…yes I remember great court scenes with Alexis and Diane “competing” against each other and showing their stuff. And even Rick. Plus just showing the backs of two jurors heads as the “jury” was a little ridiculous.

Well, I give them credit for having a trial. I know it was comical but their were some good acting scenes. We all knew Julian would be exonerated.

Absolutely ridiculous, insulting storytelling day after day. And to think that the lazy head writers overseeing this garbage got extensions?!?! Unbelievable. I’ve had enough and will not watch anymore. ABC should be ashamed, or is this all part of a plan to purposely tank the show to justify cancellation sooner than later?

This once iconic soap has become a total embarrassment, almost to the point of tarnishing its rich legacy. Very sad.

I know it’s not the writers’ idea, because they said in an interview over the summer that they want Anna to get justice (in an interview here on the Fairman site).

Michael: Lastly, please tell me you want Anna to FINALLY get justice on Julian for the murders of Duke and Carlos?

SHELLY: Yes. We want her to get her justice!

Things have been so sloppily written over the past few weeks with the hospital killer story and this trial that it’s clear that this was a request from the anonymous “suits” which may include FV or not, who knows. The balance of good to evil on this show is 25/75. Sad. I have never seen so many people say they need to take a break. And I have never seen so many people say they want to be interested in the show but it’s almost impossible. Fans have to block out things a character has done, many things, to make these romantic leads work in their heads. There is no hope, most of leads are unrootable. What kind of mesage are they sending to us by killing off Nik Cassadine, Sabrina, Duke, AJ and keeping guys like Julian on the front burner. Three of them are vets and the other is a nurse at GH which I thought was being revitalized. Having Julian go off canvas would have at least been one large step in the right direction.

I like Julian and I’m glad they found a way to keep the character. I loved AJ and am pissed they killed him off…not happy with Sabrina’s demise and I don’t think Nic is dead. We shall see…

Well, EVERYONE knew Jules was skipping these charges. Its a soap, he needs to mill around and stir drama! IF his contract was up, a different story. He will try and win Alexis back and be hated all over town until something happens to Danny and Julian will ride to the rescue! I like William deVry and glad he is staying put!

I don’t care that Julian is free and clear of all charges. I care that the writing of this story was substandard and that these great actors had the burden of selling this awful material. This is what happens when you’re willing to take any route to get to your desired outcome, regardless of plot development, character motivation and common sense. Long live GH!

I thought all along that Amy is Paul’s daughter or granddaughter, not sure yet,and she was mercy killing older patients and in order to throw the cops her scent Paul began killing random people at the hospital to cover the first couple of deaths– to lump them all in under the serial killer umbrella, to protect Amy.

As for Julian I echo other fans about this farce of a story line– I detest they destroyed the character Julian and now don’t have the guts to write the character out, but instead insult everyone’s intelligence with this stupid trial — which is why I hate all court room dramas on soaps because the don’t even try to make it believable– this is why it is difficult to invest any real emotions into these stories– it is all contrived stuff– everyone knew the minute he killed Carlos this would happen, he would go free and make Alexis’s life hell– but eventually win her back– YAWN.

There shouldn’t have been a trial in the first place. GH never should have written Julian’s psycho 180 at all. It made no sense. And the Duke part was long dead story-wise. Duke put a hit on Julian. Julian put a hit on Duke. One ended dead. That’s the price of being a mobster. Plus, it was a year and 1/2 ago, and we’re still hearing about it? Enough. I’m tired of all the violence on GH. I just want the writers to move on now. Use the verdict as a reset to start over with better stories for these characters that aren’t mired in boring mob mess.

I expected the verdict, the sub par quality of the writing of this storyline, yada yada. What really got me was the dollar store version of a major crime figure on trial. A handful of spectators some that belonged there, some that did not belong and of course lots of significant no -shows . No press, no jury (!) except for the one man and one woman (well, the back of their heads, actually) shown with some creative camera angles. And wouldn’t you know that one of them was the foreperson! LOL! One guard/deputy on duty responsible for a major crime figure and security.
Budgets are tiny, I’m not asking for a Law & Order type set up, but come on!! Heck, even Y & R sprung for a bit more for their last major trial. Sorry, I am very shallow but that stuff just stood out to me.

Yep; it’s noticeable. But GH’s ratings are lower than Y&R so GH probably has a tighter budget. Same thing with the Nurses Ball. This past year was better than the one before…that one barely had any recognizable faces and a few extras filling up tables. It’s just the now reality of a hanging-by-a-thread genre. They’re going to cut cost where they can. I agree with you that it’s not as enjoyable when it’s slashed like that but “it is what it is.” If it keeps GH going I’ll shake my head…as I continue to watch.

I can’t help but compare CBS to ABC. CBS airs, and seems to be more comfortable with what would be considered popular shows for a more mature demo…like award winning CBS Sunday Morning and Sixty Minutes. Now they are bringing back Kay to Y&R as a consultant with more of a traditionalist background to this soap, hopefully to better incorporate the new with history. Especially for long time viewers. I would think more $’s because I’m sure pharma advertisers like reaching these viewers as well.

I realize networks need to have up-to-date, with more contemporary, “edgy” stories and characters to keep attracting new viewers. But the point I’m trying to make is that CBS seems to do a better job of having shows and characters for everyone.

LOL, Rebecca. Maybe TPTB at GH shouldn’t have Finn go nuts and destroy furniture. Is that part of the budget??
Hey, Rebecca; did you notice how Finn did not even go near the side-table lamps? HaHaHa!!!!! I guess they must have been a bit pricey? Later.

Good point CeeCee. I guess they weighed Finn’s physical display of angst against the cost of full-bodied jurors and figured one coffee table equals a torso!

@Rose….Given the fact that this country “boasts” the most over-medicated population in the world, it would be a blessed relief if people of all ages would tune out those annoying big-pharma commercials!!!! It never ceases to disgust me how those things play one right after the other with no condition too big or too small to address with their ever-expanding array of meds! No wonder we have such substance abuse problems (of both the legal and illegal variety….) that seem to be growing exponentially….

Why would anyone be even remotely surprised by Julian’s acquittal? We’re talking about Port Charles…

Laura killed David Hamilton
Scotty killed Rick Webber
Jason murdered Lorenzo Alcazar
Alexis murdered Luis Alcazar and Kiefer Bauer
Sam killed Bill Malone
Michael killed Claudia Zacchara
Franco was a serial killer pre-brain tumor removal
Lulu killed Logan Hayes
Ava murdered Kate Howard/Connie Falconari
Sonny murdered AJ Quartermaine

I figure if leading man Sonny can murder a legacy character and not be ostracized by the supposedly intelligent people of Port Charles, then Julian will be just fine for killing a recurring character like Carlos.

As for Alexis — I love how a woman who’s spent the majority of her law career making sure that Sonny and his lil enforcer Jason didn’t pay for their multiple crimes lost her crap when the mobster acquitted was her own husband. Guess it’s not so funny when you’re the one robbed of justice instead of the one making sure someone else is being robbed of it…

when they to write this Paul guy out I’d getting boring

A, uh, few things…

1. Julian is found ‘NOT GUILTY’ on all charges…oh, gee whiz…’what a shock’…NOT!!!!!
2. Alexis acting ALL STUPID during her testimony on the witness stand!!!!! I know, I know…that slimy and murderous Paul drugged Alexis’s water (or whatever)…yeah yeah yeah yeah…I get that…whatever.
3. That so-called trial was BEYOND RIDICULOUS!!!!!
4. ‘Alexis heads to a bar to calm herself down after the verdict’…oh, golly gee…’very smart’…NOT!!!!!
5. Most of all, all of this is further proof that ABC/Disney knows NOTHING about quality programming…AT ALL!!!!!!!!!!! Stupid, clueless clowns.

Later.

HAHA ..tell us how you really feel

And Jay, the verdict came in and no Sam, Molly or Kristina there with their mother! STUPID!

So glad you pointed that out..

I think the trial and everything leading up to it is a complete study in bad writing and nonsense.
To make matters worse were the overly dramatic sound bites which were the worst I’ve ever heard played on GH.
