General Hospital To Switch Time Slots In Some Markets!

Courtesy/ABC

Courtesy/ABC

ABC has confirmed that General Hospital will move time slots in certain markets back to its original time slot that it held for 25 years prior to moving up one hour earlier in 2012!  That time slot was of course 3PMET/2PMPT

Intel on which cities television markets and the dates the time change will go into effect will be forthcoming from ABC.

This switch has nothing to do with any cancellation issues with the show, as it continues to be doing exceedingly well and is on steady ground.

As ABC viewers know, Katie Couric’s talker, Katie took over the existing GH time slot two years ago in most markets, which prompted GH to move back an hour!  Now that Couric will be gone, looks like certain markets will run GH back in that time slot!

On-Air On-Soaps will give you up-to-date tune information when it becomes available!  What do you think of some markets getting GH back its original time slot?  Let us know!

Yay!!! Sort of. Lol I got used to all my soaps one after the other, then Days at 3:00 I taped for after GH. I guess I can watch it 2-3 & adjust again!

Ugh! Hope where I am isn’t affected. I used to lose the 2PM time Central, but now LOVE an hour earlier at 1 PM since I pick up my kids at 3. DVR will make it easier to watch now, but would hate not to watch all the way through.

Great!! I’m so busy that I sometimes miss it at 2!

What’s going in its place?

Most likely a talk show…i know some are hoping OLTL and AMC as half hour shows but that is highly unlikely…cast has moved on!!!

Steve Harvey and he is horrible!

According to the promos airing in Boston on Channel 5, it’s Meredith Vieira (new show) at 3 followed by Ellen at 4 and then news. So as of now GH is staying at 2.

In NY it will be Millionaire followed by Daytime Jeopardy.

Now if they can revive OLTL Daytime will be the best! I don’t think the time change will effect my schedule on bit. Just glad it’s on the line up!

It has done better at 2PM eastern in the ratings. I think WFTV 9

I wasn’t done, I think WFTV 9 will stick with DR OZ at 3pm. Myself I like it better at 2PM Eastern

I’m pretty sure WFTV (& any other Cox owned ABC affiliate) will keep GH at 2. After Katie was canceled, Cox purchased Dr. Oz for its affiliates to go into Katie’s slot. The same applies to WSB (Atlanta’s cox owned ABC affiliate)

Katie never aired on WFTV, Katie has aired on WESH 2 at 2PM competing against GH. WFTV went with Steve Harvey in 2012 and then replace it with Dr OZ.

If this is going to split the East Coast markets, it will adversely affect the social media aspect of live tweeting of the show (which, in my opinion, generates interest). if they keep the coasts and zones at the same time, it should be fine, especially since high school students can watch live at 3:00.

And that is a very real problem. It looks like NY and Philadelphia are going to 3pm but Boston and others will remain at 2pm, although I have no confirmation on that.

In general this is not a good sign for GH. Shifting time period can adversely impact the show. The lead in of The Chew is an important component and adds to GH’s success. The fact that they end every episode with stay tuned for general Hospital up next is not a coincidence. It is a similar audience and has good flow and support.

If the Network is willing to risk the health of the show to allow certain stations to move it where they think it benefits that station specifically, possibly thinking it is a stronger lead in for their 4p news, then you have to wonder about ABC’s commitment to it’s Soap. If they are so happy with the ratings and the show is on solid ground, then keeping it’s time slot not only where it is, but consistent in each time zone, would be a priority, not the needs of a few individual stations.

GH will have a different lead in, it will be on at a new time, and it will be on at different times in the same time zone, effecting the social media aspect of the show and risking that people in large markets like NY and Philadelphia may follow the twitter timeline or message board live threads before the show airs in their markets and may decide not to tune in on certain days. This is not good for GH.

Exactly my point (of course, more eloquently written)

That’s a valid point.

I never liked tem swishing the time slot in the first place.

It’s moving back to 2p.m. In Chicago, where it never shoul live. Where it should’ve never left! I #BlameKatie for this whole mess, But I’m cool w/ the change.

SOB! Keep it in the same time slot so all the soaps run one after another…at least in my time zone! Why do the networks have to fuck around with the time slots anyway???

Do you watch all four soaps? Do you have favorites? Which one would you drop if you had to? Please reply.

I would say General Hospital, I used to watch Santa Barbara and the Edge of Night. It was a great soap opera and also would say that General Hospital has always been my favorite. I love Nancy Grahn since her Santa Barbara days and a role on OLTL. Also, watched her as she progressed on a movie. Always knew she could act. I like the fella who plays Julian Jerome- a real good Canadian actor and person. The pairing of Alexis and Julian is magic. so, my favorite is General Hospital while Nancy and Wil are on. I do like some of the pairings.but favorite is Juliexis

4ever Days, to answer your question, my “favorite” changes often depending on the stories at the time. Right now, DOOL is probably my favorite followed by GH. B&B is my least favorite and I FF much of it. Y&R I’ve been watching off and on for years, so I stick with it even though it’s really struggling right now. Since I record all shows, I watch what I like and FF what I don’t, so it doesn’t take long to watch all shows.

Thank you for your reply!

If its doing so good why change it…i did like it best at 3:00pm in my area…maybe if NBC moved Days to 2pm in my area away from Y&R its ratings would increase…dont really know what to think about the time change…will 30 min. versions of AMC and OLTL be its lead in…kidding, i know those two are most sincerly dead…i guess ABC wants the 2pm for its new talk show since Katie failed at 3pm? I just wonder…will GHs ratings be better…or worse? Just a thought!!!

I really hope they keep all the markets in the U.S. Eastern Standard Time Zone at the same time. There are a lot of us out there now that watch together and chat live about it on Facebook.

Now if they can bring back AMC @ 2PM and OLTL @ 2:30 PM, it will be perfect.

Omar my friend, AMC AND OLTL will never come back to abc. ABC will never admit, there mistake in cancelling both soaps. I am over it now, rip AMC and OLTL. Lets enjoy the 4 soaps, remaining on tv and support them.

Plus some of the shows stars like Kassie D. has moved on and she is appearing on Days!!! Maybe if GH plans a spinoff with some of its bloated cast that would be ok but im certain none of the networks will ever attempt anymore soaps in its lineup…

no!no! and NO!

IT WAS TOUGH WHEN WE HAD TO SWITCH TO 2PM. EST. TIME., NOW, IT WOULD GO BACK TO 3PM. EST. TIME, AND IF IT MEANS GH IS STILL THE BEST SOAP ON TV, ESPECIALLY SINCE I’VE WATCHED IT NOW ALMOST 51YRS. I’LL EXCEPT 3PM. IF IT HAPPENS TO US. LOVE THIS SHOW, LOVE ALL THE CAST. SOME ARE BETTER ACTORS AND ACTRESSES, BUT, EVEN THOUGH SOMETIMES THEY MAKE ME CRAZY, I LOVE THEM TOO. I COMMENT WHEN I THINK IT’S NECESSARY, AND SHUT MY ITALIAN MOUTH WHEN I SHOULD. KEEP US UP-TO-DATE ON THE TIMING. THANKS FOR THE INFO.

don’t yell…

GH changes back to its original timeslot in San Antonio Texas on September 8, 2014. Have known about time change or possible cancellation at the end of NBA finals. Received confirmation of GH timeslot change a week and a half ago. Contacted my local affiliate to get some answers.

hmmm
I do not know if that is good or not..
I, and probably a million others, watch online at our convenience (anytime anywhere)

I would love it back at 3 on the East Coast

One can only hope (in vain, of course) that this is make way for the return of “One Life To Live” !

Meredith Viera’s new show starts on Sept. 8. in CST and I bet it is going to 1:00 pm to give the TALK more competition.

I am happy that they will be moving GH back to the original time slot. It should have stayed at 3 p.m. Be sure to let us know when this change goes into effect.

This is interesting does this mean the affiliates will be getting the earlier time slot to fill after their local news? Just seems really weird. Will be interesting to see where this is going to happen. I think the show benefited being in the current time slot not sure moving it back is such a good idea

I have no issue with the time change, but it should be shown at a nationwide, consistent time.

No big deal, GH is here to stay. Its safe for now.

Well, it makes room for the return of any soap they choose. Either AMC or OLTL. Or perhaps a shorten version of both.

Bring back One Life to Live in its former time slot.

Right before General Hospital.

I got used to the 1:00 PST time slot that I forgot that it was originally on at 2:00. I DVR the show anyway so it really doesn’t make much of a difference.

LOL @ people who actually believe OLTL amd or AMC will be brought back..
It will never ever happen..
There is not a prayer that it will happen..

None of the networks want them and ABC will never air them, again, that is obvious..
We are very lucky the GH was not also taken away..

OLTL and AMC are DEAD GONE and buried in the soap graveyard.. 🙂

GH is staying at 2pm in Pittsburgh.Steve Harvey is taking the 3pm slot.

Everyone has to realize that the 3PM EST slow was given to the local affiliates. Some aired Katie while others aired other programming in that slot. Stop the this gives room to bring OLTL back because all this means is that in the markets that move the show to 3pm they will fill either the 1pm or 2pm hour with either the new Meredith talk show or some other show.

I heard/read they are unleashing some type of doctor show ..

Thank you David for being the only person who understands! The time slot is the local affiliates, not ABC’s. The local affiliate may choose to shift GH to 3. Every affiliate still will fill the hour with their own programming, whether “some type of doctor show” or any other talk show.

Some markets may even drop it in favor of less costly shows in the 3pm market…i seen this happen with the Edge Of Night and their ratings dropped and they were cancelled…hope it doesnt happen to GH!!!

It also happened to Loving on ABC. I really hope that doesn’t happen to GH. I understand that it has happened to DOOL in some markets. I suspect that is one of the reasons DOOL has such low ratings.

I hope it changes in my area; an hour later is much more convenient for me. It always makes me nervous when shows keep changing time slots though, as it makes it hard for people to find it. Just glad it’s sticking around.

I am glad. Now I won’t miss as much ant more. THANK YOU!!!!!!!!!!!

Yeah! Now I can come home from work and watch!!!

With Verizon Fios in my area General Hospital would come on at 2 and 3 due to there being two ABC channels. Katie would come on one of the channels at 4 with the other showing Queen Latifah at 3. However with Comcast Xfinity it is only on at 2 and instead of Katie we get Queen Latifah at 3.

yes cant wait hope it happens in Mississippi I watch dool and gh if dose I want have to watch gh online can watch on tv.

Something is wrong above. GH aired at 3 pm/ET for much longer than 25 years. In fact, it was on at that time for the overwhelming majority of its history. From 1964-76, it was a 30-minute show from 3-3:30. (The show actually debuted at 1 pm the prior year.) Then, following 18 months airing for 45 minutes (starting at 3:15), GH moved back to 3 pm when ABC expanded it to 60 minutes in January 1978. The show stayed in that hour-long slot until the move in September 2012 (34 years). Combine that with GH’s early years as a half-hour show and it aired at exactly 3 pm for roughly 46 1/2 years (48 years within the 3-4 pm hour).

I

Doesn’t affect me one way or the other. Been recording the show for 20 years, and I will continue to do so regardless of what time it’s on. Catching up on GH is something I look forward to doing every weekend.

Very glad to hear that GH is on safe footing for the time being with ABC, which certainly wasn’t the case a few years ago. That’s why to the people that love to complain about the current regime, just keep in mind that if it weren’t for them, General Hospital would be a distant memory right now. So I say thank you to them for keeping it going.

General Hospital already is a distant memory. If you tuned in on Wednesday you will know why.

ABC. Is not airing any program in Katies former timeslot it belongs to your local affiliate. In San Antonio we are getting a local talk entertainment show at 1pm followed by GH at 2pm starting September 8

I prefer it be 2pm Central time for Illinois.
That’s where it belongs. Should have never moved it!!

What an absolutely disgusting hour of television! The August 13, 2014 episode of GH was the most revolting, horrific episode of a soap opera I have ever had the misfortune to witness. However, it accomplished one thing….I am no longer a viewer of this show. I have watched it all my life and I cant continue to watch the vile offensive piece of filth it has become. Until we meet again GH…when Cartini is replaced.

It does rather make one shudder to think where they will go to next, doesn’t it, Johnny???? You just know that this bunch won’t stop with their latest example …they always feel the need to top themselves with an even greater level of depravity.

I see this as a sign that ABC is getting AMC & OLTL back

And I see this as a sign that you’re delusional.

I love GH will watch whatever time it us on. I usually tape so I can relax in evening and fast forward commercials. ..as long as it is still on I am a happy camper

I would hope by now that the mourning period would be over. AMC & OLTL are DEAD. They are not coming back. Even if ABC wanted to bring them back, they’d have to pry the time slots from the local affiliates which would be next to impossible. Enjoy GH and the other soaps. Or don’t. Regardless, AMC & OLTL are but a memory.

That steve harvy show suppose be coming on at 3on sept.8on abc so we gh take him off?

Steve Harvey has nothing to do with ABC it’s a syndicated show, that airs on different stations at different times. ABC has not had anything at 3PM. And the post said Some Markets will put it back at 3pm Eastern, not all. it’s up to what your local station wants

Your right. Local ABC stations want to start their local earlier evening news with a strong lead in. I think GH is stronger than Steve freakin Harvey but what do I know?

This works will for me and I’m loving the new time slot.

I think a test pattern will get a higher audience than Katie – it was awful and I avoided it at all costs.

Hey ABC – why don’t you bring back reruns of some favorite soaps of the past – in half hour blocks – (edge of Night, dark shadows, ryans hope, amc and oltl), maybe have a country star narrate (hint Reba). That worked once before.

Please don’t change the time back! 2:00 ET is perfect!

I wish it would fall back to 3pm ,everywhere. How many times does Obama come on and interrupt GH at 2pm for something stupid! If your going to interrupt GH, tell us you are going to pass a bill to cap gas prices at a 1.99 per gallon!

What does Obama have to do with GH’s timeslot. GH could still be interrupted by Obama even at 3:00pm.

I know but it was rare.

Yeah!!! I hope GH moves to 3pm in the NY market. I work in a school and miss coming home at 3:30 and still being able to watch GH.

Could this be the start of ABC apologizing to us soap fans? GH owned the 3pm time slot. Long Live General Hospital!!

“As ABC viewers know, Katie Couric’s talker, Katie took over the original GH time slot two years ago n most markets, which prompted GH to move back an hour! ”

3:00pm is NOT GH’s original timeslot. GH’s original time slot is 1:00pm. It moved at 3:00pm in few months after it premiered in April 1963 and stayed at that timeslot until September 2012 (with a notable interruption between 1976-1978 where it aired at 3:15pm instead of 3:00pm). Therefore, 3:00pm is not GH’s original slot. 3:00pm is rather the slot when GH has aired for most of its run. But its original slot is 1:00pm as a 30 minute show.

I used to love GH at 3:00pm but hope it stays where it is in my area now. I like to watch Ellen at 3:00pm – so GH at 2:00pm should hopefully stay at 2:00pm where I live!!!! No more changes in time – please and thank you, GH Executives!!!!

Awesome .. much better.
Should help the ratings for GH and DOOL for people who still watch real time won’t have to worry about recording …
Yeah – since there is only one ABC soap i started watching the others and like them.. .still way better than the Chew or other talk shows. good change.
