GH's Laura Wright Appears on The Chew to Promote Wine Business While Mario Batali Tries To Save Face with Soap Fans!

Daytime Emmy winner, and a nominee again this year, Laura Wright (Carly Corinthos Jacks) of General Hospital was the very special guest on today’s episode of the ABC foodie show, The Chew.   Wright was on to promote her increasing popular wine business, Standing Sun complete with a look at Laura and her husband John’s home and their winery.  After the very nice at home and business segment, Laura watched and assisted Chef and co-host Mario Batali cook a pasta dish along with Michael Symon.

What caught our eye was how Batali kept looking at his note cards, when asking questions to Wright or trying to sound informed about her soap life!  And then came Batali’s attempt for The Chew to save face for soap fans who may have tuning into to see the talented Wright.  Batali said,  “Daytime TV fans weren’t quite ready for us when they started, but I think we made some moves, and a lot of people that used to watch some of the shows find them at different times, and now we’re part of that same beautiful daytime pop culture which makes us very proud.”  One thing was for sure, the studio audience was extremely excited to have Laura on the show!

Then One Life to Live star, Robin Strasser (Dorian) took to her Twitter account to air her feelings on Wright’s appearance! Strasser tweeted, “Laura Wright is wrong praising the Chew, confusing protecting her own job with love/fun/or that bad food. 800 jobs lost when OLTL cancelled.  My Toxic tweet now out there, I’ll add that I think Laura Wright is talented, beautiful, and strong. Nobody’s perfect- The Chew is the proof.”

To us,  Wright was on the show to help promote her business venture.  Something that makes logical sense given the cross-promotion on the ABC lineup and Wright’s winery fits in with a food show.  However, some are skewing it differently.  Now, watch the two video segments with Wright after the jump! And then let us know about how you think Mario Batali did in the cooking segment with Wright!  And, your thoughts on Laura appearing on The Chew!

sorry Laura, I won’t watch the spew………….even if you become a co-host. :<(

surprised she did the show. she’s apparently torn between beting a soap actress and promoting her wine business which she does all the time on Twitter. think it’s a betrayal to the soap audience.

“being” not beting… a soap actress.

The cew doesn’t impress in the least…I find it GOOFY!!!!!!!!!!!!! The whole package is kind of silly to me………………

I agree 1000% with Robin Strasser whom I miss very much. I am so glad I am not a writer because their jobs have been stripped from under them. The proof is the the loss of viewers for all of ABC shows except GH. They think they know the programming that we the viewers want to watch. They are dead wrong and are paying the price.

Laura should not have done The Chew if she cared about the soaps, the fans ABC screwed, & her job! She is just encouraging them to cancel GH! What a traitor! I hate Mario with those stupid short pants & sandals! And he steals tips from his restaurant workers too! They sued him!

Her wine business is doing ok she didn’t have to cross the line to go on the chew. She slapped the soap fans right in the face, we are all sticking together to trash those awful shows that replaced our soaps and unless she is living on mars she has to know that and doesn’t care, there is no excuse for her showing up on that garbage filled show, Robin Strasser said it best A lot of people are out of a job. I’m with you that Mario guy is a nasty looking clown with his shorts and those god awful shoes. Good grief abc put that dumb show on the food channel, bring back our soaps or your daytime and prime time ratings will sink we are not going to watch no matter who you put on. Those shows are cheap, cheesy, and above all else not watchable.

Mario still doesn’t get it about soap fans. I enjoyed the clips because I love Laura Wright, but I wouldn’t turn on The Chew if I were paid to.

I DVR’d the show just to watch Laura, and that’s all I watched. I couldn’t believe it when Mario said that stuff about daytime fans. He just doesn’t get it. I will never watch his lame show unless there is someone I really want to see, like Laura, but that is the only segment I will watch. And even that was painful once the idiot hosts started talking. The whole thing was awkward.

I did enjoy seeing the recorded segment of Laura’s home, winery and family.

All I can say to the cast of that daytime show that took our show’s place is GO BACK TO THE FOOD NETWORK you guys, where you belong. And those of you who are 18-49 you need to let your voices be heard more. Laura has children to feed and a business to support, I get that but it really felt icky even just watching the clips.

Yes they should go back to the food network…That’s where all the cooking show’s belong……The Chew makes me sick to my stomach!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I can’t stand their commericals either………………………..Again they belong on the food network.. We don’t want them on daytime programming !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I didn’t even think about it when hearing Laura was going to be on The Chew. AMC was leaving , nothing could stop that, sadly. Something was going in that time slot and it happened to be The Chew which I think has turned out to be popular. Laura didn’t effect anything by appearing. I certainly don’t think it was wrong or a betrayal to soaps. The show that replaced OLTL bombed, but it doesn’t mean we get OLTL back.

True…………………….

I will never watch the chew…Haven’t watched it from day one!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Don’t like cooking shows and never watched one ever..They don’t interest me at all…………I can’t understand why this show is still on the air!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Everytime I see the comerical for the chew when I’m watching GH I change the channel………….This farce should have been cancelled long ago…I won’t watch it mo matter what guess actor appears on it……………………….

My reaction when I saw the promo of the Chew that Laura was gonna be on there was HORRIFIED. I thought oh no way. Why? They are obviously super successful & she does not need to be on this hideous show to promote anything-ESPECIALLY A SHOW THAT TOOK AMC for Pete’s sake.

However, in the interest of trying to keep an open mind & not letting my disgust of the Chew get in the way-I forced myself to watch the clip (which is the longest time I EVER watched this show) and that awful blond girl licking her hand while the awful guy in purple narrated. The segment at Laura’s was wonderful but boy do I agree with Robin Strasser, 100% Laura Wright should not support this show or any other that replaced a soap. PERIOD. Oh Robin Strasser, I love & miss you so much.

I agree with your comment about Robin Strasser.. This did replace AMC….I wil not watch it for that reason………………………I miss her too.. DITTO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

and…on anothe note…it’s a calculated move by ABC to draw the soap audience to The Chew. really pisses me off that Laura played along with them. very self-serving. (no food pun intended!) 😉

I agree. Thank you for the clip because I love Laura as well. But I will not be tuning into the Chew.

I understand why she did it (and to be honest, she probably didn’t have a lot of choice in the matter. When your boss says, “hey will you…”, you do) but ABC Daytime Fans are never ever going to watch The Chew.

I agree with you……………

I really love LW..Not crazy about her being on the Chew. Will never watch shows that take AMC/OLTL spots ever..I did watch the clip and what’s his name? seemed akward reading from his cards..Surprised she did it but still a huge fan of hers.JMO..

I’m surprised also that she did it….

I couldn’t watch the clip once Batali started reading from his cards. Pathetic that he can’t prepare. I can’t believe Batali is still on television after settling out of court for $5.25 million for illegal tip skimming. I will never watch The Chew.

I tend to agree with Strasser, but what choice did Wright have about appearing on The Chew when she works for ABC? She “outsources” most of her grapes? Not a bright comment to make when promoting a winery.

Laura Wright has choices, one being the Rachael Ray cooking show, that is still an ABC show…

I agree with Robin Strasser! This was a slap in the face to all the fans working so hard to get their soaps back! I never have and never will watch anything but General Hospital or Oltl if we are fortunate enough to get it back!!! I have no respect for any actor that promotes anything on these inane replacement shows!

I agree with you Helen!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Your right Helen, And so is Robin Strasser.

AGREE!

absolutely!

I think it was wrong for her to be on the show that killed AMC and could still kill GH to sell a few bottles of wine. I have lost all respect for her.

Me to.

Me three.

me four!

Me 5…

I will never watch the chew but,I fully support Laura’s decision to promote her business on the program.GH isn’t going to last forever, and her main concern should be for the future well being of her family.

But her wine business is already very successful so she did not need to go om The Chew to promote it! And how is her wine business any business of GH? How ABC force her to promote her private business on that piece of crap show?

REALLY! Everyone who follows Laura & GH knows about her winery. Soap Opera Diget has mentioned it more than once & I’ve even looked at her winery’s website. It is no secret. I hate the effing Chew. Makes me want GAG.

How do you know that GH “forced” Laura to appear on the Chew?

robin strasser is a great actress. but robin you need to mind your own business. you are pretty nosy for making that comment. laura wright is promoting her wine on the chew. i did watch the chew today because of laura wright. robin strasser can be a diva sometimes. laura wright you are a smart lady to promote your wines on the chew. who knows how long general hospital will be on the air. alot of soap actors have jobs on the side. smart move laura wright. also i loved your work on guiding light loving and the city. you are a wonderful gorgeous actress.

I so agree with the prior post. I love Laura Wright but will never watch the Spew even if the entire cast of the ABC soaps past and present were on it. also, Mario said some unforgivable comments about daytime soap fans and has not made amends nor attempted to. I liked watching his show on the food network. He needs to go back there! I feel Laura was trying to promote her Winery but she should never have gone on the Spew. It just moved her down a peg.

Laura didn’t have to go on that horrid show to promote her winery! There are many other shows that she could have appeared on! I also agree with Robin and just because Laura was on that show doesn’t mean it got high ratings! As for Mario trying to save face with us was a crock just like those awful orange crocs that he wears! I will never like the hosts or watch that horrible show!!!

Find another way to promote your wine business, Laura, because there is no way in hell I will ever tune in or support The Chew. I have yet to watch one second of that show, and I don’t intend on starting any time in the future. I’m actually surprised to hear of her appearing on this show. I know it’s all about business, and she is still a part of the ABC family, but as a soap actor I would think that she wouldn’t want to have anything to do with a show that was a part of the demise of one of daytime’s Iconic series. I don’t have any ill will towards her for wanting to promote her business, but just my opinion…. Down with The Chew!

Love Laura Wright and understand that she wanted to go on Chewv to plug her wine business. But, I am still boycotting the Chew and anything else that took our beloved soaps places! Can’t blame Robin Strasser for her tweets. Lots of jobs were taken away cuz of Chew. Glad they at least showed clips of GH!

Laura was as sweet & lovely as always & I enjoyed the clips with her but Mario definitely failed at trying to appear like a soap fan.

Didn’t watch it……………I just can’t watch the chew……………..I am a loyal soap fan…

I’m a loyal soap fan too, watched AMC since day one & OLTL almost as long. I was heartbroken when they were cancelled. No one had to tune in to the show, Michael has the clips here on his site. Laura also promoted GH besides her winery. I am not a fan of “The Ewww” & do not follow it…..I would much rather see AMC back in that timeslot where it rightly belongs followed by OLTL!

Susan m. I know that we have seen on several sights that abc renewed general hospital, But we never heard it from them, they never, that I am aware of, made a statement from their network that it was renewed. I go all over the net and I never seen a statement by them, they are getting rid of the revolution but they are replacing it with good afternoon america when that katie show starts in september where does general hospital go? On a brighter note I heard this morning that the chew isn’t doing as good as all my children, still, that is good and it proves our point that we want soaps on in the afternoon not garbage filled shows that make no sense to us. Abc/disney is loosing in the afternoon and I am happy that our boycotts are working, I also hope that general hospital went up this week in the ratings, I haven’t heard anything yet.

Barbara t. You read about the ratings : GH shows gains in total viewers and key 18-49 women demo Gh did both adding 29,000 put GH in third place..That’s good news…Positive news for GH….This is for 6/2……….What do you think about this??????????????

I’m not bothered by Laura Wright appearing on The Chew. CBS has its soap actors appearing all the time on The Talk and Let’s Make a Deal so it was only a matter of time before ABC did the same.

I didn’t watched The Chew’s episode with Wright, just like I didn’t watched any of The Talk’s episodes with soap stars in them. A soap replacement remains a soap replacement no matters who are the guests. But I won’t disown soap stars who decide to appear on these talk shows. I’m not their mother and they’re old enough to make their own decisions.

That’s not the point, She went on a show that we are still boycotting, all my children was in that time slot and why should any of the fans be happy about what she has done, anyone who did watch because she was on is wrong for doing so. aren’t we the soap fans trying to bring the ratings down on that dumb show to? The soap stars know that and that is why I feel she made a big mistake going on that horrible replacement for all my children.God knows there are other food shows and talk shows that she could try to sell her wine to. and if this is a move by abc to bring the soap fans on to watch the chew it didn’t work it backfired every place I have gone to today there are posts a lot of them of the fans disappointed in Laura Wrights visit to the chew. Sometimes there is nothing wrong in just saying no, we fans are trying to save general hospital and the soap stars should not betray the fans her job at gh isn’t that safe, if it was, abc would have renewed for longer then a year and I never heard that abc did renew general hospital, They have never come out and said anything and that has me worried that we will loose general hospital, I hope I am wrong.

I think I read on this site that GH was renewed for another year………I read it a while ago . Michael had article on it…Yes I remember reading it…

I feel from a business prospective Laura did what she had to do for her Winery. I personally don’t agree with her choice of shows. As part of the soap opera genre she should have been more considerate and supportive of her colleagues that lost jobs because ABC made these ridiculous choices Maybe promoting on the View or Live would have been a better choice. It seems like she is only trying to help her AMC boss’ get viewers for this “show”, Her business venture could have easily been promoted on another show and still showed ABC her support for the soap genre by NOT appearing on a show they cancelled it for. JMO

mario is a straight up @$$ – he said that daytime tv fans that used to watch the different shows find them at different times………mario acts as if amc & oltl changed their time slots – he is just as delusional as ever!
as far as laura being on the chew, i see it as free advertisement for her wine business……………..

What world does Mario live in!? What a load of cr*p! One of these days the spew will sink by the hands of soap fans. Pop culture indeed..there is NO comparison!
Sorry Laura..didn’t watch and never would! I hope the show got low ratings.

I love Laura Wright and GH, but could not bring myself to watch her on The Chew, because I also loved AMC and OLTL. She has every right to promote her own business, and since the category falls under that of what The Chew covers, it does make sense, but I still could not tune in. I also see how ABC would want to mesh the two worlds (reality tv and soaps), in hopes of possibly getting the fans of either/both shows to tune in to the other, that does make sense, and I sure do hope Laura appearing on The Chew brings more fans to GH, but I highly doubt that soap fans will make the same jump to watching Batali and company, I know I will not !!!!!

She seems very uncomfortable everytime they speak about the soaps. I have never watched this show and OMG i can not believe how freaking boringgggggggggggggggggg it is!!! Is the audience paid actors? they dont seem like they really want to be there if you ask me.how is this crappy show still on air!!!!

I don’t know either why this show is still on the air ????????????????? They should stick to the food network…That’s a good place for them….And leave daytime programming for OUR STORIES!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I’m proud that Robin Strasser had the gumption to speak her mind. Laura Wright made a bad decision here. Laura states that it was just to promote GH but why go on a food show & talk about soaps..it was mainly about her side business of selling WINE! She even hawks it at her fan events. It’s too soon for any soap star to appear on THE SPEW. Sure, it won’t bring back AMC but it was symbolic that a current soap star would appear on the show that replaced a soap opera just last year! Mario probably wouldn’t have known who Wright was if it wasn’t for his note cards. His speech about slowly being accepted by daytime fans was nauseating to say the least. This is a big deal and I personally feel betrayed. I’m so happy that people are not being quiet about this.

She could have went on the food network to sell her wine for her buisness……….

I am very upset about this I don’t know who to really be mad at, abc for telling her to do it, The people of the chew who put her on their dopy show, or Laura Wright for showing up, I guess all three, Abc is a deceiving network which will lie and yes, cheat to get people to watch their circus like shows. The hosts of the chew for pretending to be soap smart, Does that ass really think he is being accepted by the soap fans, I don’t think so. Now Laura, She could have just said no and went on some other dopy talk show to sell her wines. I am really upset in her crossing the line to go to the enemy, abc cancelled all my children and One life to live and they are working on getting rid of general hospital and she goes on that show that is the start of the killing of the soaps. Bad move on her part.

Enjoyed watching the clips. Thanks for that. I don’t ever watch the Chew nor did I watch the Revolution. I think Mario B is about as unlikable as a person could be, The rest of the cast of the Chew are not bad and likeable. As far as Robins S tweet she has the right to say whatever she wants but I think she should thought more about how it would come off. To me it was offensive. That said I sure miss OLTL but I am so glad we still have GH. Love that Ron C and Frank V are now helping to make the show better.

Robin and alot of actors lost their jobs so yes she should be offensive whenever she can. She deserves to vent whenever she can. ABC stole something very precious from us and we are not about to just accept whatever they want us to watch!!!

Well said Ron. And I will continue till the day that I die to boycott abc/disney, that means I want my soaps back and general hospital stays put, if not, That network or anything disney will never be welcome in my home again. What Robin said was the truth and she did have every right to speak up, a lot of lives were turned up side down because of abc’s decision to kill the soaps.

As much as i like Laura Wright, I wonder if she would have appeared if it had been General Hospital that had been cancelled.

That’s a good comment……………..Would she have???????????

General hospital is not even safe right now, that alone should have kept her off that show.

My sister came over and had a copy of June 11 Soap Opera Digest page 53. Laura Wright makes comments about how THRILLED she is to be working with the OLTL actors because all of the sudden their show was gone and they were out of jobs she also stresses how she is happy their fans get to continue to watch these characters they loved. So you are wrong if you think she is unloyal to her fellow actors on ABC. She is sure not responsible for the bonehead decision to cancel them & I am sure she is aware that they could do the same thing to GH. Cut the gal some slack!

Mario, I can’t catch the soaps at diff times because SoapNet is now gone. Plus, for those who watched cancelled soaps, how are they going to watch them if they’re no longer on air?

Granted, I don’t necessarily think it’s Mario or any of the other hosts’ faults the state of ABC. If they hadn’t taken those jobs, someone else would, but it would help if he had maybe embraced the soap community.

I can see both points of view. Laura works for ABC and she is given an op to also promote her winery, but on the other hand, The Chew led to the demise of other soaps and could also have killed GH. I think she was probably between a rock and a hard place and at the end of the day, it was an op to promote her winery so she did it.

There are repeats of OLTL on the soap channel on the T.V. I have watched some of the old episodes of OLTL…The one about Tommy..Todd’s kid.. That Marcie is on the run with…And Todd is looking for her………It’s on at 7:00am & again at 8:00am…Check your listings..I probably have a different cable provider ..May not be on the same times………….MISS MY OLTL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Alot of cable providers and satellite providers have dropped Soapnet as it is owned by ABCDisney! Ppl cannot watch their cancelled soaps on line if they don’t have internet!

Well I get the soap channel..I have Bright House Cable in Fl……..I watched it this morning (Fri.)……………………………..I guess I am lucky I still have that channel..And they show GH on it if you missed it …………And for the wk. too….

I have direct tv in florida and I still have soap net.

I have Comcast and they told me Soapnet is no longer available–Disney has closed it down due to low ratings. Lady I spoke to said she was surprised it had low ratings since they have received A LOT of calls about it. I went to Soapnet site and it looked like it was still operating so I called again and was told it’s been shutdown. I don’t know what the real story is, but it’s gone.

As for watching online, my computer chair is not that comfy that I want to watch online programming.

mario made it seem as if our shows continued on @ soapnet – any idiot knows that soapnet is only running reruns of amc & oltl…..this just shows how big of an @$$ he is…………smh
laura did not need to be on the chew to promote her winery because she talks about it @ her fan events plus she mentions it on twitter 24/7………………….

I didn’t know Laura promoted her winery 24/7 until reading these posts. Since she does that, it’s no surprise that she went on Chew. I guess if you don’t like what Laura did, don’t buy her wine, don’t follow her on Twit, etc.

mo, comcast is not being honest with you , I have direct tv and I just looked because of your post and I still have the soap channel.

That’s what I didn’t understand because I went to the Web site and it still looked like Soapnet was up and running and I also couldn’t understand why there weren’t any media reports of Soapnet going black. I guess I will have to give them another holler and be on hold foreva. Thanks.

Good luck with comcast, I would give them a earful.

It seems that Comcast decided to drop Soapnet sooner rather than later. Even though it is still on air, they’re not airing it. Don’t know why. I’m not the only who complained, but it ain’t coming back. I don’t know when it will go dark for all, but enjoy it while you can.

Mo , I am hearing that soap net may be turned into disney family, I don’t know there are so many rumors I wish someone would just come out and say once and for all what will happen to soap net and when will it end, I think that abc has some real stupid pr people working for them.

Yes, I know it’s going to be turned into Disney Junior at some point. An idea which I think sucks. Why can’t they air Disney stuff during the day and soaps at night? I wish another channel would take on airing the soaps. There is a demand for it. And even airing defunct and current soaps from the beginning. I don’t know when Soapnet will cease once and for all, but I just wish Comcast would air it until that day. Maybe Disney wanted them to pay some money. I don’t know. I was even willing to get another package if it meant I could get Soapnet, but Comcast is apparently not offering it at all. Guess I was lucky to have it for as long as I did.

I guess I should be happy I have soap net for now, I did hear that a lot of parents are ticked off at direct tv because they choose to not put on disney junior at this time so that means disney junior is up and running just not on direct tv they wanted to keep soapnet. I really wish that some one, any one would give us a soap channel, there are to many kid channels and a lot of sports channels, whats wrong with one soap opera network that will put on the old ones and produce new ones and bring back my one live to live and other soaps that have been cancelled.

I agree with Robin.God bless that woman she says it like it is!!! Laura should not have done that show. I realize she wants to promote her winery and she should, but not on a show that replaced a soap. I didn’t watch just because she was on and I am sure there are many others who felt as I do, There is NOTHING that would ever make me watch that show! No GH actor or abc actor past or present should make an appearance on that show. We should never let abc forget how they dissed their loyal daytime audience.

After watching the recording it seems Laura was there to promote her wine business. Chew thought by putting someone from GH fans would tune in. They could have chose C. Mathison who works with GMA to be on the show, but than Mario couldn’t have made his Soapfan dig of being excepted in Daytime. Chew or Katie will never be accepted by “Soapfans”. We won’t give up the fight!

Mario will never get it about soaps because hes an idiot. I do not and will not watch the chew. its a boring mind numbing experience. Laura Wright can do as she pleases, promote her wine stuff where ever. Doesnt mean she will intice me to watch, nor will i purchase the products being shown on that vile show the chew. Mario is an arrogant bastard that really needs to get a clue. Just watching clips of the show as you have posted here is just boring. Its mind numbing. Give me action, love and adventure! Give me the keep ya on the edge of your seat, wait till tomorrow, programs that we all know and love for many many years. Give me back my OLTL and AMC! Robin Strasser!!!! I LOVE YOU MAN! Miss my Dorian! Im not a Laura Wright fan. I watch GH, have for my whole life, but OLTL is just better in every way.. More CLASS! MARIO BATALI can jump off the nearest cliff and it wouldnt matter to me one bit.

Talk about crossing the line and going to the other side, How sad is this move by Laura Wright, Robin Strasser is so right about her showing up on the chew and 800 people loosing their jobs, Talk about stabbing the soap fans and showing up on a stupid talk show for idiots that is part of the killing of all my children and one life to live and is she not aware of everything we soap fans are doing to save General hospital a soap that she is on? I am disgusted in her I can’t believe she doesn’t know what she is doing, even selling her wine is it worth hurting the fans she had like me who no longer has respect for her place on general hospital. Bad decision on her part to show up on that awful show, If abc asked her to do it, All she had to do is say No, I can’t see selling your ass to the network who is destroying the soaps because of money and she is making money on that show that has gone cheap, whatever I am disgusted, Wrong move on your part Laura.

I agree with you barbara t……………………………..Why didn’t she go on the food network !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! It was like a slap in the face her being on the chew …

Susan m. She should have gone to the food channel, How many shows do they have? I am really upset that she showed up on the chew, Of all the food shows, How many months has it been since general hospital was renewed? she could have lost her job, This was a wrong move on her part. I really like Laura wright I can’t believe she did this.

I don’t watch the chew….Not interested in cooking shows…Never watch them at all..Haven’t watched the chew from day one & never will..No matter what actor or actress is on this show I will NEVER watch it……………Why isn’t this show off the air by now…Soap fans don’t like the chew…I know that for sure..

A great Winery & their is nothing wrong with being smart enough to have a backup plan if your acting job is stripped from you things happen she is one smart cookie . If you are in the area go visit. She was being gracious they invited her on and it is not her fault two soaps got cancelled on ABC implying she is a traitor is just stupid.

no she’s not one smart cookie…she disingenuous. she’s on Twitter primarily to sell her wine…she went on The Chew to do the same. but in a sense she “crossed the picket line…”

if you’re an actress in a genre that is threatened with extinction, you show solidarity and support the fans that make you a “star” in the first place. If you want to prove to a network that The Chew and other reality shows can’t match the numbers of the soaps…you don’t go on the show which may in fact help boost their ratings when you’re on.

No, the hosts of The Chew didn’t wipe out the soaps. They’re not directly responsible. But if a genre is to survice the network execs have to work with numbers. She shouldn’t be helping to boost the numbers of a show that has replaced a soap.

There is no excuse really. Sure, promote your winery. But not at a time when execs are still looking at the fallout from the cancellations of the soaps.

Strength in numbers…Laura just scored one for herself and The Chew. Not the soaps and soap fans. Finally, if she’s keeping up with the fans protests, she KNOWS that they don’t want The Chew…she KNOWS that they resent the show and any show that replaces the soaps, she KNOWS they still hold out hope of getting them back on the air.

Really selfish move on her part…

Very well said rebecca. I agree with everything you said, she did cross the picket line and it was wrong on her part, She has to know what the fans are doing to save general hospital and how we feel about loosing all my children and One life to live she should have told the chew and abc, thanks, but no thanks.

I agree with Rebecca…………………….

well said rebecca & i agree with you 100% – she better hope this doesn’t turn around & bit her in the butt – she could very well loose her fan base on gh over this…………

This made me feel ill. I can’t stand Chew people. Please don’t ask me to watch any of these stupid shows that replaced my soaps again! Obviously Batalli was told what to say!!!!

he is not even intelligent enough to remember what they told him to say – he had it written down on cards & they were lying on the counter…….

I don’t begrudge Laura a chance to promote her winery and GH at the same time. In a way it makes sense to have soap stars go on other daytime shows as cross promotion. Yesterday was the first time I watched The Chew and the last time unless other GH stars do their show.

With all due respect to Robin Strasser, she needs to STFU. Laura going on the Chew is not going change what happened with OLTL and AMC. LW was given a great opportunity to reach a lot of viewers about her wine and she’d be an idiot not to take it. Considering that GH could be cancelled in a matter of months these stars have got to look elsewhere for their livelihood. I don’t fault her for that.

On a side note: I think Laura would make a great TV talk show host. She has that special quality.

And you just boosted the ratings of that piece of crap show we want cancelled by watching it!!! If you were a true soap fan you would never say what you did!

Gh was renewed for another year.. By doing this it didn’t help GH ratings..She should have went on the food network…There are so many other cooking show on the T.V. I thought going on the chew was a bad move on her part..She could have said no to the chew….Doesn’t she realize soap fans are totally against the chew because of AMC which it replaced…………..

Ron you really shouldn’t make generalizations like that about a person you don’t know. FYI I’ve been watching GH for over 40 years. I think that more than qualifies me as a TRUE soap fan. I’ve have NEVER tuned into the Chew before yesterday and don’t plan on viewing it in the future. I as a true soap fan was supporting GH by watching a GH actress promote the soap. Since the network barely promotes General Hospital, Laura going on the show was a way to support it. I really doubt that my 10 minutes of viewing the Chew will having them soaring in the ratings.

While I like watching Laura @ work on GH, there was absolutely no excuse she can give for going on The Chew, when only 6mos ago her very job on GH was threatened by ABC also. There are a hundred food shows she could have chosen from. ABC’s Rachael Ray show perfect to promote her wine. I have bought my last bottle of Standing Sun. She broke my heart.

You said it all…………….DITTO………..

Won’t watch for anything…………..

Me too……

ME TOO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Look, a smart business person does whatever they can to promote their business. I look at this as a promotional event for her. I am sure that LW knows that her ass would have been called on the carpet had she arranged to appear on an NBC or CBS show. I have not, will not watch The Chew – MB is a gross man who gives me the willies – but, LW knows that one day she will no longer be a soap star….GH could be canceled, she could be written off, etc and she is building a business as an alternative income source.

Much as I adore Robin Strasser, I think she let her emotions control her fingers in this instance. The Chew will be airing despite the cancellation of AMC & OLTL. LW appearing isn’t going to change that fact.

robin strasser had the guts to say what a lot of other soap stars were thinking & i applaud her for speaking her mind………..
robin has always spoke her mind & thats why her character was ruined on oltl because she always called it like is & i respect her for that…………..

I agree and respect Robin to. she spoke the truth and the truth does hurt sometimes.

I have never watched the Spew.I won’t even watch these videos.I love Laura, but she had to know that this would provoke the wrath of soap fans.We are still hurting over the loss of AMC and OLTL,and we will not forget what ABC/D did to us.I pray that Laura doesn’t have to find out how much this hurts.Stupid move,L.W.!

I LOVE both Laura Wright and Robin Strasser. I do not fault LW for going on the Spew, although I am not thrilled. I understand that she needs to do what is best for her and her family and since the continuation of GH is tenuous, I don’t blame her. I wish she didn’t go on or at least spoke up more in defense of us fans and her show.
I also don’t blame RS for speaking her mind. She tells it like she sees it AND she made a point to say how much she likes LW anyway.
I have only seen the clips above – won’t watch anything ABC/D except GH anymore – and I cannot believe this show is still on the air! Boring and bad are not descriptive enough! Mario’s comments were absolutely ridiculous and insulting. Find our shows at another time???? They were cancelled…and you know it! This makes me glad I have not watched before and furthers my resolve to never watch! What a jerk.

Robynne, I think you took the words out of my mouth. I feel exactly the same way.

I don’t like the chew at all…………………………..Why is this cooking show still on the air??????????????????????? It should be cancelled ASAP !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!Every time I see a commerical of the chew when I am watching GH I change the channel…LOUSY SHOW!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Mario’s statement doesn’t make any sense what so ever ………….

Agree! I also saw her interviewed on CBS’s Sat. morning show a couple of months ago. It’s obvious she’s preparing for a career beyond soaps which (I suppose) is the right thing for her

This first clip of the Spew is the only time I have seen this awful show ( except for the commercials which are nauseating in themselves ). The whole thing seemed very awkward and even though I wish that Laura Wright or any other soap actor would refuse to appear on it, I was even more put off by Mario Batali. He is a disgusting man and obviously didn’t endear himself to soap fans with his inane comments and his note cards. ABC/D and this show killed AMC and OLTL, and I will never watch it , no matter what soap star might be on it, Why couldn’t LW do a guest appearance on The View, Live With Kelly, or GMA? I don’t watch those shows either, but at least those programs didn’t replace a beloved soap.

Have never watched the Chew, never will. That said, I am glad to see ABC cross-promoting GH because it needs all the exposure it can get! I thought Laura was a good choice.

Mario Batali reading from note cards…pathetic. Shows, yet again, his lack of understanding or care for the daytime audience (or his guest). Insulting.

Robin Strasser is entitled to her opinion and I am a fan. I don’t think she should be too mad at Laura for seizing an opportunity to promote GH or her wine business.

If the Chew hadn’t replaced AMC, I might have actually watched it on, say, the food network or somewhere else. I like Michael and Clinton. I have no knowledge or use for the other 3 cast members. Don’t like Mario Batali at all. Blech!

I have to think Laura Wright is playing the company way which anyone would in her position. She is top talent in the daytime drama world, a sphere that admittedly has spun wobbly of late thanks to influences from outside and from within. The GH cast and crew surely is working to be a good ABC player as to remain on the network and have it support. Wright also has a personal business to nurture she has every right — wright? — to do that. She has not betrayed us.

THE CHEW is not a well done program, and it breaks no new ground. I would prefer it not exist and ALL MY CHILDREN remain in production. I do not choose — CHEWz? –to watch and you know? Maybe it says something that the program is reaching within its ABC arena to book guests. That is sort of sad.

Like it or not, Laura HAS to play nice with ABC right now. She would have caught MAJOR flak from GH/network brass had she NOT done the show-as much as I would have loved to see it. Both shows need viewers, unfortunately. I don’t begrudge her for going on-I just wish there would have been another realistic option…

ooooh Laura! how could you??!!! boo hiss! Go sell your wine on the the Food Channel! Even QVC! shame on you! bad form! I agree with Robin Strasser! The Spew leaves a bad taste in my mouth and it can not be rinsed out with Ms. Wright’s wine! ha!

Good one Christy! I agree.

They did raise the ticket prices again at disney, I also agree what you said about Laura, the food channel, and qvc, she didn’t have to show up on the chew even if abc told her to do it. We don’t support the soap killers even if we have wine to sell.

and you know as well as I do, we disgruntled OLTL soap viewers have more than enough WHINE to go around! bwahahahaha

I have to agree that Mario and his orange Krocs have not been embraced by daytime television fans. If they have it is ONLY because our shows have been canceled. I have always liked him (as well as Clinton and Michael) on CABLE. I do not know the other two co-hosts. Clinton has a real presence and talent. He could be successful somewhere else.

Mario is great for Food Network and other cable shows. I am afraid he is lost in national TV. I am third-generation Italian so I appreciate the Italian pronunciation, but I am sure it is lost on the many other viewers and I am sure they just do not care. His recipes are too sophisticated.

And I do not know if I am the only one or not, but does anyone really like to watch PEOPLE EAT ON TELEVISION?!

I can’t blame Laura for going on national television to promote her winery and/or to promote GH and/or to do what the ABC brass tells her to. In the end, she has her own family to think about.

No, I don’t like to watch people eat on television.

I don’t like cooking shows at all…I find them BORING!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I never watched one and never will..That’s not ENTERTAINMENT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

hey Barbara T, they should call this The Chow! I don’t know that I’d call what they do on that show ‘eating’ It’s more like ‘hurry – gotta cram something the size of my foot, into my mouth!’ te he he You chew a bite… you Chow like a horse!

not appetizing in the least!

Shame on her. She did cross the line, there’s alaways QVC or HSN.

I agree……….There are so many other cooking shows on different channels..Food network………………………………………………………. Bad move on her part…Soap fans can’t stand that show…………………..Including me……..The chew should be cancelled……..It needs to be cancelled. It doesn’t belong on daytime programming….

she had better hope this betrayal doesn’t effect her gh fan base – outraged soap fans can be very damaging

Nancy Lee Grahn’s Star-Studded ALS Fundraiser Reveals “I’ll Be There” Video Featuring Soap Opera Notables

Talk about your impressive line-up! It’s a soap fans dream and for a great cause. General Hospital’s Nancy Lee Grahn (Alexis Davis) is prepping her one-night only ALS fundraiser which will feature many of her friends and co-stars.

The benefit is set for May 4th in Glendale, California. Slated to participate are Genie Francis, Jane Elliot, Peter Bergman, Maurice Benard, Eileen Davidson, Thorsten Kaye, Michelle Stafford, Stephen Nichols, Rena Sofer, Jason Thompson, Kelly Monaco, Melissa Claire Egan, Maura West, Kristina Wagner, Gregory Harrison, Trevor St. John, Kate Mansi, Kirsten Storms, Cynthia Watros, and many others.

On Wednesday, Grahn took to her social media and released an “I’ll be there” video shout-out featuring, Monaco, Elliot, Bergman, Bernard, West, Harrison, St. John and more. In a touching and important moment in the new video, Michelle Strogny, who is battling ALS, is featured.

Previously, in speaking with Soap Opera Digest on the impetus of the event, Grahn recalled, “I was actually doing Zoom events during Covid and I met this woman that I just fell in love with, Michelle Strojny. At the time, Michelle had been living with ALS for four years. Now, it’s five years. She is a mom of a teenage son, she has the most wonderful husband, and she has been dealing with this [disease] for quite a while. And obviously, there isn’t a cure yet. It’s not survivable yet. But as she says, it’s not incurable. Nothing is; it’s underfunded. But anyway, I just really dug this woman. She is so grounded and filled with grace, and she spends all of her time working to raise money for the cause. We did a fundraiser for her last year and then I thought, ‘You know what? The soaps don’t ever get together to do something for charity.’ Collectively, we have this amazing community and we don’t collectively use it for a good cause, and I think it’s such an easy thing for us to do and we could potentially really make a difference.”

As GH viewers know, Gregory Harrison is playing the character of Gregory Chase, who is also battling ALS in a touching storyline that is currently playing out shedding a light on this disease.

‘General Hospital’ Writer Shannon Peace Let Go, and Shares on Sprina: “One of My Only Regrets is to Not Have the Opportunity to Develop That ‘Ship’ Further”

As General Hospital’s new head writing team of Elizabeth Korte and Patrick Mulcahy gets off the ground and running, there are still changes a foot on the writing team.

Now comes word via breakdown writer Shannon Peace that she is no longer on contract with the long-running ABC soap heading into its 61st season. Peace shared a heartfelt message on her Instagram, thanking the fans, and the show for the opportunity and the importance of diversity in the writers room.

Peace began, “After almost 3 years on staff and 106 episodes penned, I am no longer on contract with General Hospital. Writing for this country’s longest running television serial drama has been an education of epic proportions; I will forever be grateful that I earned my WGA card on a daytime fixture that holds memories for so many.” (Peace pictured below with GH EP Frank Valentini and script writer, Charlotte Gibson from about ten months ago).

Shannon added “Even more importantly, as the sole Black breakdown writer (and only POC in the writers room) during my tenure, I pushed for vital interactions and discussions that prioritized inclusion, visibility, and representation”

The writer pointed to the example of vital interaction when in story, “Stella and Portia’s frank July 2022 conversation about the role race played in Esme’s framing of Trina is just one example of the impact I’m gratified to have had.”

Acknowledging former GH co-head writers was also part of Peace’s farewell expressing, “Appreciation to my former bosses, Chris Van Etten and Dan O’Connor – not only taking a chance on me, but for valuing my opinion and championing my voice.”

Many GH fans know that Peace was key to the development of the love story between Trina Robinson and Spencer Cassadine as played by Tabyana Ali and Nicholas Chavez. Shannon gave a special shout-out to ‘Sprina’ fans, “I also want to thank fans who were supportive of my work, especially the recognition of my love for ‘Sprina’. One of my only regrets is not having to develop that ‘ship’ further.”

She concludes her statement with,”In the aftermath of a historic writer’s strike that shed new light on the troubling ways writers are regarded in daytime, my sincere hope is that General Hospital recommits to valuing staff writer efforts and input, with a more intentional focus on diverse viewpoints — and thrives for another 60 years.”

Accompanying her post, Shannon added, “Thank you all for the love and support these last few years. I hope GH fans get all they hope for and more!”

So, what do you think about GH not renewing Shannon’s contract? Will there be more continued changes afoot? What do you think is the future of ‘Sprina’ anyway at this point as viewers wait to see if Nicholas Chavez officially returns to the show?  Comment below.

GENERAL HOSPITAL: Jason Learns Britt Died and Tells Anna He Has Been Working For Cates Since November 2021

On the Tuesday, March 26th of General Hospital, Anna (Finola Hughes) and the viewers learn about where Jason (Steve Burton) has been for over two and half years. However, Jason gets some news of his own.

Anna is visiting Jason at the PCPD interrogation room. She asks him if he shot Dante (Dominic Zamprogna), which he flatly denies. Anna believes him, but she tells Jason it doesn’t matter, because video footage shows him on the roof at the time of the shooting

When talk turns to Jason not willing to speak without his lawyer present, Anna can’t grasp why Jason would instead spend an hour alone talking with John Cates (Adam J. Harrington).

Photo: ABC

It is then that Anna brings up that John went by “Jagger” and that the two of them knew each other in high school. Jason doesn’t recall much of his time in high school following his brain injury, but then he gets furious realizing John knew about “Jason’s” past. That is when Jason slams the table and tells Anna, “I’ve been working for John Cates since November 2021.”

Next, Jason explains further that he has been working as an informant for the FBI. Anna wants to know how this came about and he tells her that after the tunnel collapsed, and he couldn’t make it to Britt (Kelly Thiebaud)… all of a sudden he sees Anna’s face drop.  Anna is the first person to tell him that Britt died and was murdered. She tells Jason the killer is in custody, but he continues to be shocked, overwhelmed with tears welling up in his eyes. Realizing he has to pivot to save his life, Jason continues telling Anna how he wound up working with John.

Jason explains that after the tunnel collapse in Greece, FBI agents grabbed him and placed him under arrest and took him to Quantico where he met John. At Quantico, John played a recording of RICO violations and offered Jason a deal if he agreed to be an informant against Pikeman, the illegal arms dealer.

Anna hears from Jason that he thinks Pikeman is selling illegal arms to anyone flagged by the NSA but has ties to the WSB which they needed a civilian to infiltrate their organization as a military soldier, a mercenary.

Jason tells Anna he was a part of the team brought into eliminate Sonny (Maurice Benard). Every time an attempt was made on Sonny’s life over the last two years, a different team was sent to do the job. Anna gets furious when she learns that John told Jason his job was to kill Sonny and she was with John at the warehouse that night. Jason ensured the sniper missed Sonny and left the rifle behind. However, they were supposed to meet an extraction team. Before he was shot, Dante saw it was Jason on the roof and when he turned around with his hands over his head, Dante was shot by the other guy. Jason says if Dante dies, he’ll be charged with capital murder and then will be useless to the FBI.

Photo: ABC

Meanwhile, John visits Bobbie’s and runs into Carly (Laura Wright). She learns Jason is in custody and is going to head to the PCPD. Before she does, Carly has some words with Cates when she learns not only does John have a vendetta against Sonny, but Jason too.  Carly tells John he should recuse himself from the case.

So, what did you think about the moment when Jason learned Britt died? What do you think of Jason’s return storyline thus far and what we learned about Jagger/Jason and more? Comment below. But first, check out a moment from today’s GH with Jason and Anna.
