GH’s Lisa LoCicero Delivers The ‘Power Performance of the Week’

Courtesy/ABC

This week on General Hospital the truth came out on all fronts; as Olivia (Lisa LoCicero) put two and two together and realized Ned (Wally Kurth) cheated on her with Alexis (Nancy Lee Grahn).  Meanwhile, Alexis figured out Tracy (Jane Elliot) framed her to make it look like she passed out drunk behind the wheel.

Throughout, there were great performances from Wally Kurth, Jane Elliot and Nancy Lee Grahn, but it was soap vet, Lisa LoCicero, who for us was given the material and stole the show with her heartbreaking performances as a woman scorned.

LoCicero plays Olivia Falconeri from Bensonhurst, so believably, that viewers understand her every woman, who married into the well-to-do Quatermaines, and who has a much higher moral and ethical standard then the Q’s.

In key scenes at the Quartermaine mansion, Olivia confronts Ned about the night he never came home, and she wants the truth.  She also rightly accuses Tracy on being part of the cover-up.  A caught Ned confesses.  He tells Olivia he was in a terrible place, and jumped to the wrong conclusion about her and Robert (Tristan Rogers), and began drinking, which Sam (Kelly Monaco) overhears and can’t believe he was drinking with an alcoholic. Olivia says that Ned is incapable of being trustworthy after spending his entire life amongst a house full of liars and cheats.  Meanwhile, Alexis shows up in the middle of all this to confront Tracy on her machinations setting the stage for a showdown between Olivia and Alexis.

When Alexis and Olivia talk in private, the former legal eagle apologizes to her friend for sleeping with her husband; saying they both knew it was wrong right after it happened, but Olivia quickly points out that they didn’t seem to stop themselves or think it was wrong, while he was unbuttoning his pants or she was taking off her blouse!

Olivia stands her ground through her devastation and is appalled that Alexis calls her a “friend” and how she is only showing remorse because she has been caught!

When Ned tries to talk to Olivia and professes how much he loves her and how sorry he is for having sex in a drunken stupor with Alexis, Olivia is gut-punched.  Ned continually says he thought Olivia and Robert hooked-up thanks to Brook Lynn deleting messages meant for Ned.  The fact that he would assume the worst of her, only made things worse for Ned, and then to go as far as having revenge sex with Alexis, made Olivia feel her husband had sunk to new lows.

It is then Olivia has a moment of reckoning; wondering what is her role in the Quartermaine family anyway, and how she doesn’t really fit in.  Ned promises to wait for her and begs her not to give up on them.  When he leaves, Liv breaks down … her marriage in pieces and betrayed by all those she thought she could trust.

Each of the aforementioned moments were played to perfection by LoCicero, leaving the audience wondering just what will Olivia do next and how will she bounce back from this betrayal.  That is why Michael Fairman TV names Lisa our pick for The Power Performance of the Week.  And, if it’s one thing we know about Olivia, she is a scrappy fighter, a survivor, and in the capable hands of this actress, we will be rooting for her all along the way.

So, what did you think of the performance of Lisa LoCicero?  Do you hope Olivia and Ned work things out and they stay together, or do you want to see if she and Robert Scorpio might have a new romance? Comment below.

Lisa LoCicero brought the Bensonhurst out of Olivia, and I am completely here for it! It was about time, too!

I have a always thought this actress was underrated just as Elizabeth Hearst I did not see itch’s I am not watching much tv theses days but good wishes to her!

Geeze sorry not watching much tv these days ! Congrats

Lisa and Wally need to be on contract. I prefer Ned & Olivia on my screen much more than many other characters!

Wally’s not likely to be on contract since he’s still appearing regularly on Days. This was less complicated in the pre-COVID time, when Days had a ridiculous taping schedule, which was up to 9 months ahead of air dates before everybody had to stop production for a while. Upside of that being that Days never ran out of original episodes, but now they’re back on the same timetable as everybody else.

Wally seems happy with working on both shows, so I’m not going to ask him to choose between Ned & Justin.

I agree!!!!

These days a contract means less than it used to. What matters is if you are driving story. Ned and Olivia have been front burner since the show returned in August. Emmy-wise, Wally could almost submit himself for lead as Ned and supporting as Justin.

Jon Lindstrom (recurring) rightfully submitted himself as lead for 2018 and 2019 as Ryan was the main storyline.

James Patrick Stuart has never been on contract, yet Valentin does not feel like a recurring character.

keep Ned & oliva together to love them two for good

I loved loved her performance! I was cheated on back in the day and her words and thoughts were just like mine!!! Absolutely fabulous performance! Love her

First I thought Lisa/ Olivia was great. But coming from the kind of adulteress family like the Q’s, and he adding to this before with Monica, there is a little room for Ned to wonder about the Olivia/Robert trip. As far as Olivia and Robert’s casino/search for Holly, it was a throwback to some of the most fun I’ve seen on GH for years. But Robert is too much of a travelling man for Olivia. I guess I would rather see her give Ned another chance. Do GH and B&B compare notes when timing their storylines? Recently the altzimer (sp?) story, alcohol addiction with Alexis and Steffy, and now stupid Liam and Ned.

Rose
I agree with everything you said. Also, isn’t this the second recent Power Performance of The Week for Lisa/Olivia? I just love this gal. She makes those Q’s look so uptight and stuffy, it’s even rubbing off on Michael. You hardly ever see him smile anymore. I have read a few people saying that Olivia is loud , obnoxious, etc., but compared to Carly for example, I’ll take her any day. I say no to her and Robert. I like them much better as loving friends, not lovers.

Wow! You are so right, Violet. Olivia is a real powerhouse and Lisa’s performance was truly original and heartbreaking. It reminded me of the movie SOMEONE TO WATCH OVER ME when Lorraine Bracco found hubby Tom Berenger cheating and punched his lights out. And you’re right about Michael, too. His personality has vanished.

Soaphound
Thanks so much but this is getting tiresome, ha! Again today, Lisa/Olivia gave it her all. Another gut wrenching performance! I can’t wait until the next one, when she lets Alexis feel her wrath. Just hope she remembers that Ned was part of that disaster, he wasn’t forced. Gee, Robert is looking better and better.

Robert is way to old for her. That’s ridiculous.

While LiLo is a big fan of Tristan Rogers, I agree that pairing them together might be a bit off.

Olivia’s first onscreen GH romance was with Johnny (about a decade younger). After she briefly reconnected with Sonny. Now she’s settled with Ned, who despite being about a dozen years older, the relationship works since Wally and LiLo have a wide range.

Then again, anything’s possible when the actor playing your son is only 9 years younger than you.

The real spark for Robert right now seems to be Jackie. And, eventually Holly’s return.

Olivia & Ned should not give up on their marriage. Robert & Holly always & forever!

Steve
I also liked her a few years ago with Scott Reeves. I thought they were a cute couple. Too bad they hauled him off to prison, while keeping so many other real murderers on the show forever.

Robert Scorpio is not too old for anyone because…..he’s Robert Scorpio!

You tell them HARRY!!! I consider that comment ageist……
And truly Bensonhurst OVER ACTS…She’d be far more effective if she took it down a notch.

Keep Ned and Olivia together.

I hope Olivia will forgive him and they will rebuild their marriage. She is over looking the fact she left with Robert and he never saw her calls because if brooklyn. They have all made mistakes. Poor Leo is in the middle of the crap.

Keep them together.

When Olivia when Into details about all the moments they could have stopped..like when the belt buckle was being undone..it was epic..what an amazing actress!

Wouldn’t it be something if sonny comes back and becomes part of Olivia life again.

That was water under the bridge, no pun intended. They were just teenagers when she got pregnant and had Dante, that Sonny knew nothing about. I do like them together though.

Agree, Great performance!

She hit it out of the park!!!

That was truly her best performance ever. She played the wronged wife to the max!!! Award winning performance.

When did Olivia and Alexis become friends? Olivia went out of her way to be there and to prove Alexis’ innocence. I know I was done for storyline purposes, but I ain’t buying it! Alexis is always so damn snooty, so this didn’t ring true for me.

I, too, thought it was one of the best performances I’ve seen in a very long time.

No,No,No Olivia has too much class to go backward , that’s why she left Sonny. Leave Ned standing right where he is looking dumb. Olivia get your child move out and don’t look back. Listen anybody can do good when you are in love bliss but when you do good when all hell breaks out defines who you are as a person. I would let him see me come up smelling and looking better than ever. His lost not your baby.
By the way your performance was perfect, simply perfect.

She totally rocked it!

Congratulations well deserved!! Once again kudos to the writing team giving their actors great writing & dialogue!!

Angela
Yes, their writing was good, but we have to praise the director too in getting the best from Lisa which she gave. Brava, Brava

Those scenes were pure SOAP OPERA!! THE juxtaposition of Ned and Olivia in the living room with Alexis and Tracy in the foyer were what soaps are all about!!! Forget back from the dead, doppelgangers, mob shootouts, and all those things that execs seem to think viewers want to see! This was stunning, meaningful human drama centered on characters we love and care about!! I have waited for a LONG time for this show…or ANY SHOW to tell this type of story!! Bravo!!!

Bensonhurst would be great with Robert….they click…Those individuals who say Scorpio is tooooo old for Olivia are ageist. Ned’s behavior and response to his marriage vows is sad.. He should have known instinctively that Olivia wouldn’t cheat…she’s incredibly loyal all the way around…. I sincerely hope she gets even with both her husband & Alexis who has gotten on my last ever loving nerve.

I just caught up with these shows from when the reveal happened. Nothing like a good soap reveal that has been months in the making, when it’s done well, and this was done very well. Lisa LoCicero was fantastic, Wally Kurth, Jane Elliot, Nancy Lee Grahn, everyone was perfect. These scenes were so well written, and just another shining example of why GH has the most talented and deepest cast on daytime. Bravo!

Nancy Lee Grahn’s Star-Studded ALS Fundraiser Reveals “I’ll Be There” Video Featuring Soap Opera Notables

Talk about your impressive line-up! It’s a soap fans dream and for a great cause. General Hospital’s Nancy Lee Grahn (Alexis Davis) is prepping her one-night only ALS fundraiser which will feature many of her friends and co-stars.

The benefit is set for May 4th in Glendale, California. Slated to participate are Genie Francis, Jane Elliot, Peter Bergman, Maurice Benard, Eileen Davidson, Thorsten Kaye, Michelle Stafford, Stephen Nichols, Rena Sofer, Jason Thompson, Kelly Monaco, Melissa Claire Egan, Maura West, Kristina Wagner, Gregory Harrison, Trevor St. John, Kate Mansi, Kirsten Storms, Cynthia Watros, and many others.

On Wednesday, Grahn took to her social media and released an “I’ll be there” video shout-out featuring, Monaco, Elliot, Bergman, Bernard, West, Harrison, St. John and more. In a touching and important moment in the new video, Michelle Strogny, who is battling ALS, is featured.

Photo: ABC

Previously, in speaking with Soap Opera Digest on the impetus of the event, Grahn recalled, “I was actually doing Zoom events during Covid and I met this woman that I just fell in love with, Michelle Strojny. At the time, Michelle had been living with ALS for four years. Now, it’s five years. She is a mom of a teenage son, she has the most wonderful husband, and she has been dealing with this [disease] for quite a while. And obviously, there isn’t a cure yet. It’s not survivable yet. But as she says, it’s not incurable. Nothing is; it’s underfunded. But anyway, I just really dug this woman. She is so grounded and filled with grace, and she spends all of her time working to raise money for the cause. We did a fundraiser for her last year and then I thought, ‘You know what? The soaps don’t ever get together to do something for charity.’ Collectively, we have this amazing community and we don’t collectively use it for a good cause, and I think it’s such an easy thing for us to do and we could potentially really make a difference.”

As GH viewers know, Gregory Harrison is playing the character of Gregory Chase, who is also battling ALS in a touching storyline that is currently playing out shedding a light on this disease.

‘General Hospital’ Writer Shannon Peace Let Go, and Shares on Sprina: “One of My Only Regrets is to Not Have the Opportunity to Develop That ‘Ship’ Further”

As General Hospital’s new head writing team of Elizabeth Korte and Patrick Mulcahy gets off the ground and running, there are still changes a foot on the writing team.

Now comes word via breakdown writer Shannon Peace that she is no longer on contract with the long-running ABC soap heading into its 61st season. Peace shared a heartfelt message on her Instagram, thanking the fans, and the show for the opportunity and the importance of diversity in the writers room.

Peace began, “After almost 3 years on staff and 106 episodes penned, I am no longer on contract with General Hospital. Writing for this country’s longest running television serial drama has been an education of epic proportions; I will forever be grateful that I earned my WGA card on a daytime fixture that holds memories for so many.” (Peace pictured below with GH EP Frank Valentini and script writer, Charlotte Gibson from about ten months ago).

Shannon added “Even more importantly, as the sole Black breakdown writer (and only POC in the writers room) during my tenure, I pushed for vital interactions and discussions that prioritized inclusion, visibility, and representation”

The writer pointed to the example of vital interaction when in story, “Stella and Portia’s frank July 2022 conversation about the role race played in Esme’s framing of Trina is just one example of the impact I’m gratified to have had.”

Acknowledging former GH co-head writers was also part of Peace’s farewell expressing, “Appreciation to my former bosses, Chris Van Etten and Dan O’Connor – not only taking a chance on me, but for valuing my opinion and championing my voice.”

Many GH fans know that Peace was key to the development of the love story between Trina Robinson and Spencer Cassadine as played by Tabyana Ali and Nicholas Chavez. Shannon gave a special shout-out to ‘Sprina’ fans, “I also want to thank fans who were supportive of my work, especially the recognition of my love for ‘Sprina’. One of my only regrets is not having to develop that ‘ship’ further.”

She concludes her statement with,”In the aftermath of a historic writer’s strike that shed new light on the troubling ways writers are regarded in daytime, my sincere hope is that General Hospital recommits to valuing staff writer efforts and input, with a more intentional focus on diverse viewpoints — and thrives for another 60 years.”

Accompanying her post, Shannon added, “Thank you all for the love and support these last few years. I hope GH fans get all they hope for and more!”

So, what do you think about GH not renewing Shannon’s contract? Will there be more continued changes afoot? What do you think is the future of ‘Sprina’ anyway at this point as viewers wait to see if Nicholas Chavez officially returns to the show?  Comment below.

GENERAL HOSPITAL: Jason Learns Britt Died and Tells Anna He Has Been Working For Cates Since November 2021

On the Tuesday, March 26th of General Hospital, Anna (Finola Hughes) and the viewers learn about where Jason (Steve Burton) has been for over two and half years. However, Jason gets some news of his own.

Anna is visiting Jason at the PCPD interrogation room. She asks him if he shot Dante (Dominic Zamprogna), which he flatly denies. Anna believes him, but she tells Jason it doesn’t matter, because video footage shows him on the roof at the time of the shooting

When talk turns to Jason not willing to speak without his lawyer present, Anna can’t grasp why Jason would instead spend an hour alone talking with John Cates (Adam J. Harrington).

Photo: ABC

It is then that Anna brings up that John went by “Jagger” and that the two of them knew each other in high school. Jason doesn’t recall much of his time in high school following his brain injury, but then he gets furious realizing John knew about “Jason’s” past. That is when Jason slams the table and tells Anna, “I’ve been working for John Cates since November 2021.”

Next, Jason explains further that he has been working as an informant for the FBI. Anna wants to know how this came about and he tells her that after the tunnel collapsed, and he couldn’t make it to Britt (Kelly Thiebaud)… all of a sudden he sees Anna’s face drop.  Anna is the first person to tell him that Britt died and was murdered. She tells Jason the killer is in custody, but he continues to be shocked, overwhelmed with tears welling up in his eyes. Realizing he has to pivot to save his life, Jason continues telling Anna how he wound up working with John.

Jason explains that after the tunnel collapse in Greece, FBI agents grabbed him and placed him under arrest and took him to Quantico where he met John. At Quantico, John played a recording of RICO violations and offered Jason a deal if he agreed to be an informant against Pikeman, the illegal arms dealer.

Anna hears from Jason that he thinks Pikeman is selling illegal arms to anyone flagged by the NSA but has ties to the WSB which they needed a civilian to infiltrate their organization as a military soldier, a mercenary.

Jason tells Anna he was a part of the team brought into eliminate Sonny (Maurice Benard). Every time an attempt was made on Sonny’s life over the last two years, a different team was sent to do the job. Anna gets furious when she learns that John told Jason his job was to kill Sonny and she was with John at the warehouse that night. Jason ensured the sniper missed Sonny and left the rifle behind. However, they were supposed to meet an extraction team. Before he was shot, Dante saw it was Jason on the roof and when he turned around with his hands over his head, Dante was shot by the other guy. Jason says if Dante dies, he’ll be charged with capital murder and then will be useless to the FBI.

Photo: ABC

Meanwhile, John visits Bobbie’s and runs into Carly (Laura Wright). She learns Jason is in custody and is going to head to the PCPD. Before she does, Carly has some words with Cates when she learns not only does John have a vendetta against Sonny, but Jason too.  Carly tells John he should recuse himself from the case.

So, what did you think about the moment when Jason learned Britt died? What do you think of Jason’s return storyline thus far and what we learned about Jagger/Jason and more? Comment below. But first, check out a moment from today’s GH with Jason and Anna.
