Hollywood Studios, Producers & Guilds Send Plan To Gov. Newsom and Gov. Cuomo For COVID-19 Production Restart Guidelines

Photo: JPI

On Monday, the two states with the most television and film production in the United States (California and New York) received a plan from many Hollywood studios, producers and the entertainment and production guilds of a plan and outline to be able to rejigger and restart production of your favorite shows and films.  This includes the soaps: General Hospital, The Young and the Restless, The Bold and the Beautiful and Days of our Lives.

Via Deadline: In an effort to get the industry moving-forward again where jobs were lost or put on hold, and production were completely stalled out-of-the-blue, the guidelines submitted by “The Industry-Wide Labor-Management Safety Committee Task Force (the “Task Force”) is asking for consideration and adoption for the resumption of motion picture, television, and streaming productions in an environment that minimizes the risk of contracting or spreading COVID-19,” says a report for Governors Gavin Newsom of California and Andrew Cuomo of New York.

You can read the details of the report here.  While there has been no word from the Governors and their offices if they have seen the report, bets are that several more steps will be needed before anyone would head and report back to a set yet.

As one would expect, limiting contact, social distancing, regular temperature checks, ways to handle props, and a COVID-19 compliance officer for all productions are part of the proposal.   As well as virtual writers room meetings, avoiding filming on-location as much as possible and filming in front of large audiences.

So, glad to know that this major step has been taken to try to get production back on track in Hollywood and New York? Comment below.

Soaps need to add the pandemic to its stories and show how they do it…this will help eliminated some scenes with too many characters ect..

While they’re at it maybe they could ask old Gavin to stop scheduling his fucking daily press conferences at 1:00 PM every day.

There’s literally 23 hours in a day when there’s nothing on TV, and he chooses to interrupt the one program that’s still on the air (Days of Our Lives)

Hold off until 2:00 mr Governor. I couldn’t give a cherub’s pink ass about the Nurses Ball reruns.

Sorry to break this to you – Governor Newsom’s 1:00 pm news conferences are FAR MORE IMPORTANT than Days of Our Lives will ever be. Decisions made by Governor Newsom during this pandemic out weigh your selfish inability to watch Days of Our Lives at a later time.

He’s got 23 other hours a day to work with. Let him interrupt that shitty prime time lineup that NBC has right now. Three hours of Simon Coward and a bunch of other corporate stooges pretending to promote “talent” (i.e. the next generation of lip syncing teen models “singing” bubblegum corporate crap calling itself “music”)

Earth to Satan-the pandemic is affecting the lives of millions of Americans. Days of our Lives is FICTION which has no basis in reality. Governor Newsom’s new conferences will ALWAYS take precedence over the fictional lives of the residents of the equally fictional Salem where ever. If you need help watching Days of Our Lives at a later time ask a friend for help or ask Google.

” thank you ” for, holding’; the DAYS of OUR Lives YES indeed that’s spill

Men circle tingle; sensation (s) Days of OUR lives Mensation

Cuomo is doing the same thing in New York, and all he does is whine and shift blame. And of course the noon news on the CBS affiliate has to have their full half hour taken out of the Y&R episode (even though they have about 5 hours of daily news over 24 hours).

I have been in Canada visiting my family since before the beginning of COVID 19. So much stuff of all sorts going on so I’ve waiting it out before going back to my home in the US. My soap network feeds come out of Buffalo so I see Cuomo’s press conferences everyday. It comes on after watching Canada’s Prime Minister Trudeau. I’ve really been impressed with both of their own brands of leadership, information and “we are in this together” attitude through these terrible times…something sorely lacking out of DC.

Yes, Dr Ruth! If President Trump had not bailed out that sorry Cuomo with much-needed ventilators, the hospital ship, plus plenty of federal manpower, other medical supplies and lots of $$$$, he would even be whining and demanding more than he still is! Now if he can only think of a way to blame all those tragic nursing home deaths (due to his own disastrous policies…) on The Donald…..

Shay…Hahahahaha…ohhhh…still at it. Say bye-bye Trumpty Dumpty. What a sorry ass failure. Ducking for cover in his bunker and then getting peaceful protesters out of the way so he can con his Evangelical basee with his upside down Bible. Downplayong a deadly pandemic while he’s popping preventative pills. Higest number of infections in the world, most deaths in the world…the virus he said he had “contained” and will go away, one day, like magic. And NOW, after his daily rallies…ummmmm…”updates”….he wants to have a packed convention with no social distancing and no masks.
The man is unstable. More than half the country knows it, the generals know it, Europe knows it…man’s gotta go back to The Aporentice after he’s voted out and fire himself.

Shay and Dr Ruth…And thank goodness Cuomo and other governors who had to “whine” (your word, not mine) got what they needed to save lives. I think it’s any president’s duty as leadersto “bail out” (again your words, not mine)these asks

Shay and Dr Ruth…Oops pushed the wrong button. As I was saying I think it’s any president’s duty as the country’s leader to “bail out’ (again your words, not mine) to follow through these asks to help save lives. I think it even better if presidents would preempt and ask the governors and others how the federal government can help instead of all of the negative backbiting. Since this is an unexpected event in most of our lifetimes, with still many unknowns, there is no playbook on how it will turn out. And Cuomo and others have offered thanks.
Where I do agree with you is this epidemic has really shown the dirty little secrets in many nursing and retirement homes In both the US and Canada, not just NY. Besides finding a vaccine they have got to get them cleaned up with strict regulations.

Ugh, I can’t stand Baker, Cuomo, or Newsom.

I don’t think Baker, Cuomo or Newsom care that you can’t stand them. I don’t care what you think of these three Governors. I just know that Cuomo is doing the job that I voted him into office to do.

Annie, who hurt you? Mommie? Daddy? Did your husband leave your for a happier woman?

No DMRR – my husband did not leave me for a happier woman. Which reminds me, how to you like the self destruction of DJT? Now that gives me happiness

I, for one, anne, am LOVING it! But the narcissist is STILL tweeting his non existent heart out, deflecting and spinning the truth. That Bible upside down cake-prop with that “commanding” stance…as he tries to combat not only peaceful protesters but the ego-deflating down-in-the-bunker” hiding image would be amusing if the whole surreal situation wasn’t so hideous.
Let’s HOPE that the electoral college is on the side of sanity this time. We know most of the voting public will be. The world (with the exceptuon of Russia) is counting on it.

@DMRR…Personally, I’ve always surmised that it’s those people who didn’t get their much-desired ponies for Christmas during disappointing childhoods who have these “issues!”

You must care or you wouldnt be responding…

My goodness, you’re virtue signaling like crazy!

Why can you not stand those Governors, because they’re doing their jobs for the people in their states during incredibly tough circumstances?

Dan…what do you expect from Trumpsters?

Hmm so I guess looting and burning your cities is a essential item now?? Pathetic !!!

Going to be interesting on how soaps work post pandemic filming. The Days writer is in a lot of trouble, he will have to do something with Ciara/Ben besides have them in bed together all the time…Lol..seriously, going to be interesting especially for the younger demographic that wants love in the afternoon. Do think the soaps have some really good pairings that have enough chemistry that you don’t need the hot heavy sex. Just have to have well written stories..here lies the problem.today’s writers..cough cough carlivati.

The Young and the Restless and General Hospital Actress and Writer, Meg Bennett, Passes Away at 75

Meg Bennett, who had played Julia Newman and later became a writer for the top-rated daytime drama, The Young and the Restless has died at the age of 75.  The news comes from her family who shared that she lost her battle to cancer back on April 11th.

Daytime fans remember fondly, Meg’s portrayal of Victor’s (Eric Braeden)first wife. Bennett joined the show in 1980, after her first soap stint for two years in the role of Liza Walton on Search for Tomorrow.

Impressed by her story notes, the late Bill Bell, then head writer of Y&R, had Meg doing double duty acting and writing on the show from 1983-1987. When he decided to write off the character of Julia, he also wanted Meg to stick around as a writer.  Not only did this begin a whole other daytime career for Bennett, but she was not done playing Julia either. Throughout the decades, Julia would still come back to Genoa City for a visit. Most recently, Y&R fans saw Julia in 2018, and again in 2020.

Bennett also appeared on Santa Barbara and was a writer on that show as well from 1991-1993. She played the role of Megan Richardson. It was next that Meg had her longest writing stint coming to ABC’s General Hospital. Meg wrote for GH from 1993-2011.

In 1995, Bennett won her first Daytime Emmy for writing and her personal life changed after falling in love with nine-time Daytime Emmy winner, former GH head writer, Bob Guza Jr. In addition, GH also utilized Bennett for her acting skill when she was cast as the villainess Allegra Montenegro.  Meg and Bog Guza were officially married in 2004 and purchased a home once owned by Boris Karloff and Gregory Peck.

Additionally, Meg wrote for The Bold and the Beautiful 1987-1989 and later served as a executive story consultant to Brad Bell from 2002-2004.  She also wrote for Sunset Beach, Generations and GH: Night Shift throughout her writing career.
