Josh Elliott Leaving Good Morning America! Amy Robach Named New News Anchor!

Last night news broke that Good Morning America has lost another one of its anchors to another network! This time it’s Josh Elliott who has chosen to exit the ABC morning show and head over to NBC Sports!

According to Deadline.com, “Eliott, who had been making about $1.2 million salary at GMA, turned down an offer to stay with the show for $4-$5 million.  Elliott raised his ask to $10 million a year. With Elliott, NBC is getting a strong sports guy — a next generation Bob Costas — who previously worked at ESPN. Per the terms of Elliott’s exit, he cannot appear on NBC’s Today for six months according to people familiar with the situation.”

Meanwhile, Amy Robach has been promoted into Josh’s place on GMA as the new News anchor!  In a statement from ABC’s News Chief and soon to be ABC Television Group President, Ben Sherwood to his staff:  “I’m excited to let you know that we have promoted Amy Robach to News Anchor on Good Morning America  effective immediately. Amy is a world class anchor and correspondent who is beloved by our morning audience and all who know her.

Courtesy/ABC

Amy has become a familiar face on GMA, filling in for Robin Roberts for many of the 174 days that Robin spent recovering from her bone marrow transplant. Amy brought us moving interviews with the families of the Newtown shooting victims and she delivered a riveting report from inside the world of polygamist leader Warren Jeffs. Showing her lighter side, Amy covered the birth of Prince George from London and brought us inside Downton Abbey.

Amy began her career as a general assignment reporter in South Carolina and moved on to become a morning anchor in Washington DC where she covered 9/11 from the Pentagon. Amy is a gifted interviewer, sitting down with world leaders including Barack Obama, John McCain, Nancy Pelosi, Speaker Newt Gingrich, Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and Prince Harry. She spent five years at NBC where she was an anchor at MSNBC and co-host of Weekend Today.

We always knew that Amy was special and we have all been especially inspired to watch her battle breast cancer with grace and determination. Indeed, she thrilled us with two weeks of memorable dispatches from Sochi anchoring our Olympic coverage — all between chemo treatments. Amy will be a fierce and formidable full-time addition to our GMA team.   At the same time, Josh Elliott let us know today that he is going to NBC Sports.   As many of you know, we have been negotiating with Josh these past several months. In good faith, we worked hard to close a significant gap between our generous offer and his expectations. In the end, Josh felt he deserved a different deal and so he chose a new path.   I want to thank Josh for his many contributions to GMA and ABC News. Later in the week, we will bid him farewell.

With Robin, George, Lara, Ginger and Amy, GMA‘s best days are ahead. Just this month the broadcast enjoyed its biggest audience ever. In the days ahead, there will be more good news on the show, so stay tuned. As we make this transition, we must keep our attention laser-focused on the most important goal – serving our loyal viewers each and every day with a big picture understanding of the world.   Please join me in congratulating Amy on her well-earned promotion. And let’s bid goodbye to Josh with gratitude and good wishes.”

So what do you think about the exit of Josh Elliott on GMA?  Both best bud Sam Champion and he chose deals with other networks instead of staying with ABC!  Those close to the situation report that Sports is where Josh wants to be.  And what do you think about Amy Robach as the new News anchor choice?   Let us know!

Best. News. Ever.
Never really cared for the guy and he’s 1/2 the reason I don’t watch GMA. Unfortunately they just signed the other 1/2 to a new contract…Lara Spencer. 🙁
Still not going to watch!

Adios Mr. Josh! Hiis ego was too big for the ensemble cast. He was always the odd man out and felt he was above it all. The goofy relationship between Sam Champion and him was uncomfortable to watch. When Sammy left I was time for Josh!

He was at times charming, always professional but it always about him.

I watch “GMA” every morning. I think the time has come to bring in David Muir. I love all of the ladies on “GMA,” but George being the sole male is going to make the show not have the same balance.

I believe people need to go where the money takes them. But, for Josh to expect a raise at ABC from $1.2 to $10 million is crazy. He is a part of a generation who doesn’t know what working your way up the ladder means. Was Diane, Barbara, Katie, Matt or Meredith making that kind of money after their first contract renewal? This type of greed and salary requirements are fed to advertisers, who in turn charges the consumer more. It is disappointing to think that self worth is more than common sense.

wow – why such a speedy exit??????? i read elsewhere that he in formed them on yesterday that he was leaving………………………
such a shame because i really liked josh!

Josh Elliot has a massive ego, and when he reads the news he always sounds out of breath he comes across as so fony and fake, Amy, I’m so happy for her promotion she’s really good and comes across as having more experience and way more personable. To me josh Elliot leaving is no great loss. It’s more of a blessing if nbc want to throw away 10 million on you then good for them..

I like Josh too bad 🙁

Who?

Sorry … none of us soap fans watch “Good Morning, America,” especially those of us that watched “All My Children” and “One Life to Live.” Just sayin’.

GMA is uwatchable! All they do is joke around and talk at the same time. I don’t blame Josh for leaving!

I almost had a heart attack there a minute. I looked quick and saw Elliot leaving and thought you were goingb to say Jane Elliot was leaving GH….thank God I reread that. If she were to leave, I would leave!

lol yeah, i had that happen to, josh elliot/jane elliot leaving gma/gh , thank god i put my glasses on an saw josh elliot was leaving and not the devine Ms. Elliot.

Losing Josh Elliott is no big deal! He was a sports guy who I never heard talk much about sports on GMA. As a sports guy you would think he would have had some analyses or or something for different key sporting events i.e March madness, etc. I never heard anything substantial from him?? Amy has real experience at MSNBC, etc. I really like her srories. I read that JE was rude to the production staff and had several flings with Interns. Oh well!

Don’t watch GMA anymore, and not just because it’s ABC. It’s became too vacuous, especially when they added “perky” Lara and too- big- for- the-screen Josh. His going to NBC for a probably outrageous salary, since they are constantly in competition with ABC, couldn’t happen to a nicer network after what they did to Ann Curry.

Don’t you just love the soap opera tha these morning news shows have become.!

Really who cares. they could have written him out better, how about pretending to send him to Port Charles, and he gets shot by Ava and she dumps his body down the smokestack of the hostpital.

Now that would be a send off.

Glad he’s gone. That raise, he just needed to do something to build his no-nothing self ego. I’ve read if you don’t build him up, he gets “upset”. So here’s to your EGO, JOSH!! Now its time for Lara and her goofy self. BTW, NBC ain’t, and will never, get better than George and Robin, but obviously ABC doing something wrong, so they better get it right or they gonna be losing more!!!

I enjoyed the show very much when Sam & Josh were on the show. I have not watched the show as much as I did as it does not have the interesting stories or subjects. In my opinion the show is even behind CBS. Sorry to say!
