Lorraine Broderick Joins the New Writing Regime at Days of our Lives!

Here’s  a bit of news that might just perk up Salem!  Veteran soap scribe, Lorraine Broderick who most recently steered the final months of All My Children and came on board One Life to Live for its final hurrah as a breakdown writers, is joining newly installed ( or shall we say semi-reinstalled) head writers, Christopher Whitesell and Gary Tomlin over at Days of our Lives!

Greg Meng, the shows co-executive producer told Soap Opera Digest that he was very enthused of this new regime stating, “We are excited and look forward to the stories of romance, suspense and intrigue this new dream team plans to tell.”

Now perhaps Broderick is the missing piece that could restore some of the glory to the citizens of the beloved town of Salem.  What do you think now of the new DAYS “Dream Team” of Broderick, Whitesell and Tomlin?   And then, let us know what you think this regimes first order of business should be in cleaning up the current stories?

I’m excited! I think the stories had become puzzling and not fitting the characters in many cases. Will’s coming out has become the only bright spot on Days so if they can keep that going and redirect the other wayward tales the show will be in much better shape. Broderick sounds like a wonderful person to help them achieve success.
The first thing I hope they do? Give us back true romance with root for couples! Its been frustrating to watch a pairing such as Carrie and Rafe forced upon us when the premise is for one distasteful and two not fitting with the Rafe’s character. Carrie has lost a lot of fan favor for being such a cold fish to Austin and new viewers have no idea why Carrie and Austin are together in the first place. The whole story just leaves a bad taste in my mouth rather than having any resemblance to a gotta see it tale. I’ve also notice a lot of talk on twitter of Days being renamed Swing Town because the format seems to be to switch everyone up as entertainment rather than give viewers the real romances they crave.
I would love for Tomlin and group to give Days an intriguing, twisty, cast encompassing adventure tale. I hope they have some great ideas up their sleeves to kick start Days again. (This current Alamania story is just silly)
I’m really wishing Days luck with the new (old) writers because I love the show and want to watch the goings on in Salem for many years to come!

Let’s hope it’s not too little too late. Because NBC is considering expanding “Today” to a fifth hour and the timeslot of Days is the only one that is available.

I am looking forward to better storylines. But I might also note that Lorraine Broderick has a reputation of singing the swan song for soaps.

Great news! I am upset that the current ones are leaving, but a great pro like Lorraine makes me excited for what’s to come!

I’m not terribly please with LB being added. Can’t recall exactly, but I thought I had read something not too flattering about her.

I thought the last writing team was going to return Days to its former glory. It’s like the same song, different tune with Days. Just do it!

Greg Meng says “romance, suspense, and intrigue”. Hopefully that means our core characters will be front and center. I would love to see John and Marlena in a story where they are working (and loving) together that isn’t orchestrated by Stefano. I realize that Stefano is a major part of the John Black story, but frankly I am tired of him pulling the strings of J & M’s life.

Lorraine is one who knows what she is doing. If they wind up firing her, it will be clear that Ken Corday and the folks at NBC are taking something powerful.

I am not sure what difference it will make if in fact the network is calling all the shots, but I loved Broderick’s stuff at GL. As for what they could do…end this fia.sco of Pawn and Gina.Explore Billie and Daniel ans then bring back Carly! Pair Nicole with Rafe. Bring back more Horton’s and focus on them and The Brady Family.

Yes Lorraine wrote during Guiding Light’s great years, around 1991-1992 so I hope she can help bring Days some of that great stuff.

I think Ken Corday needs to let go creatively and make way for a complete new ep!

Marlena should get posesed by the devil again! And add Susan Haskell to the cast!

I’m glad to see that Lorraine Broderick has a new gig!! I wish she were being hired as Y&R’s new head writer (and Scott Hamner and Hogan Sheffer would be FIRED!!!), but this is still great for DAYS. Hopefully, her stay at DAYS will last longer this time around!!

Yes Y&R is the soap that is needing new exec producer and writers now. It’s funny it’s the #1 soap but it’s the worst one on.

Great news! Seriously something has to be done about the writing on DOOL! Best of luck Lorraine!

I dont know if this is a good or a bad thing to happen at,days of our lives, guess we will be finding out soon. This egg story has to go,its really bad .wills story is good I like watching him with his grandmother,Will is the story to watch ,forget the egg stuff.send john and hope home enough already.

I think this a HUGE mistake! I hope Ken Corday, Greg Meng and all who make decisions reconsider this one and bring back Marlene McPherson and Darrell Ray Thomas, Jr.

Lisa Rinna Would Be Down to Reprise Her Role of Taylor McBride in ‘Melrose Place’ Reboot

When Lisa Rinna departed her popular role of Billie Reed on Days of our Lives back in 1995, her next major role would be a jump to primetime and the soapy Melrose Place.

In 1996, Lisa was introduced as new character Taylor McBride and stayed with the Fox young adult sudser for three seasons. Now in 2024, with the recent reveal that a Melrose Place revival is the works with Heather Locklear, Daphne Zuniga and Laura Leighton all on board to reprise their signature roles, would Rinna board the project should it come to fruition?

Speaking with PEOPLE, Rinna expressed, “Well, gosh, I’ve heard about it. I haven’t been approached or anything, but I would love to see what Taylor McBride is up to 25 years later. Wouldn’t that be something?”

OG Melrose Place fans know that in story, Taylor moved to the Melrose Place apartment building with her husband Kyle played by Rob Estes. However, Taylor had her eye on Dr. Peter Burns played by former GH star Jack Wagner (ex-Frisco). But, by the time she had moved to the apartment complex, Peter had married tough as nails ad executive, Amanda Woodward, played by Heather Locklear.

Recalling her time on Melrose Place, Rinna added that it, “was one of my greatest and most fun acting experiences, playing Taylor and working with Heather and the whole crew.”  Rinna also noted, “So if they need a Taylor McBride appearance, they know who to call. I’m around.”

The new Melrose Place is in development at CBS Studios. In the premise of the reboot, the Melrose Place residents reunite after the death of one of their friends, “but the pressure cooker of a reunion soon uncovers old traumas, rekindles old romances, reignites old resentments, and reveals new secrets… throwing our characters into chaotic drama that’s reminiscent of the past, but with a much more modern perspective.”

Kristian Alfonso Returns to Days of our Lives for Tribute to The Late Bill Hayes

After a few weeks of Days of our Lives fans being upset that Kristian Alfonso (Hope Williams) was not on the first list of initial returns for Doug Williams’ funeral and episodes honoring his portrayer, the late Bill Hayes, comes word that the popular star is back and taping scenes.

Kristian reported to work on the Peacock streaming soap opera on Monday, April 22nd. She shared how important it is for her to be back for this particular return to the show that made her a household name.

“My return is very bittersweet,” Alfonso told TV Insider,  “because it is the end of an era with Bill gone. So to return to Days is very sad. I am appreciative that they came to me to include me in their series of shows honoring Doug and I’m very happy to see everyone, but I’m entering the studio with a heavy heart.”

It was back in 1983 that Kristian first debuted as Doug’s daughter, and now 41 years later looking back at it, and her time with Bill Hayes is very emotional for her.

“I remember my first scenes with him/ He was very loving, very welcoming. That he was very talented and an incredible actor and an icon, that all goes without saying, but my personal relationship and my working relationship with Bill, it was home,” expressed Alfonso. “Doing the scenes with Bill, I felt like I was with my dad because there was so much warmth and reality.”

Photo: JPI

Alfonso did express some deep regret, in that she had wanted to work with Bill Hayes during her last appearance on the soap back in 2023, but according to the iconic actress, there was something in the works but it never materialized.  “I’m sad that I did not get the opportunity to do the storyline that Ron (Carlivati, head writer) had planned/ It was great; we returned to Salem to reunite with our families and I would have had father/daughter scenes with Billy. What Ron had written was beautiful and emotional and it was a fantastic story. I was 100 percent for it and the fans would have loved it.”

As for if Bo (Peter Reckell) and Hope will be back on-screen together anytime soon, Kristian would only say, “What I will say is don’t give up hope.” Doug’s passing and memorial episodes will stream later this year come late November into December.

So, are you happy to learn that Kristian Alfonso is back taping episodes surrounding Doug’s memorial episodes? Comment below.
