Major Clue To James DePaiva’s GH Role In New Promo!

Courtesy/ABC

As the mystery to what is causing Sam’s (Kelly Monaco) hallucinations, delusions, and seeming paranoia is well underway, from the looks of this week’s ABC promo for General Hospital, things are quickly going downhill for her.

The promo reveals James DePaiva (Ex-Max Holden, One Life to Live) who has been already announced coming to General Hospital in an upcoming role, speaking to Sam as a doctor!

Could it be that James will turn out to be as many suspected a recast Dr. Jeff Webber, or could he be a brand new doctor in town helping Sam through psychological or physical trauma, or a mysterious brain injury or disease?

Watch this week’s GH promo after the jump featuring Kelly Monaco and DePaiva. Then weigh-in: Who do you think now James’ is playing? Any more thoughts on to what is happening to Sam? Comment below.

This, to me, further gives weight that he just might be taking over the role of Jeff Webber!

Which is fine, we were teased of Jeff last year. RDA is not available or wasnt considered so James will be great. The only twist now is his daughters seem to be getting along fine without daddy!

Well, many of my fellow bloggers have already commented that they think James will be portraying Jeff Webber. I was too young to know Jeff. I know some of the character’ s history. Either way, why did they have to pair him with Monotone Sam? Talk about boring someone down. Ugh. Also, if he is Jeff Webber, that means I will also be bored to tears with more Elizabeth scenes, and Good God, more cringe-filled Hayden scenes. Regardless, I do like James and wish him well. Hopefully, TPTB will pair him with someone (romantically) who won’t bore me to tears!

My god you don’t like anyone on GH. These are all seasons actors, and I think very good.

dmr mentioned THREE characters he didnt like, NOT 33! Give it a break!

So true dmr.

I agree, Liz can be nails on a chalkboard! Hayden is fine as long as she isnt with FINN!

& thank you, Timmm! I absolutely adore the Quartermaine Family and flashback scenes and references to old family feuds between the beloved “Q’s.” I miss the Quartermaine Family, and I have to admit, I was a little upset when Hayden was accepting visitors at the mansion…
I also love Ava. I think Maura West is an incredible actress. I love Julian; although, unfortunately, the writers have written him into a corner with Alexis. I love the friendship between Alexis and Diane. I actually like Sonny (the Dimpled Don) and Carly. I have just grown very tired of their relationship and his business. I would like to see more growth in some of the new characters who I think have potential (Griffin). I think it would be interesting to see Carly date a younger man. I like Nathan, just not with Maxie, and definitely not with Amy. I really enjoyed Valentin and I liked the chemistry he had with Nina. They played off each other’s sensitivity and vulnerability really well-IMO.

With the disappointment of Jennifer Bassey’s character and lack of any anvils on a Jeff Webber appearance, it looks like JdP has been cast in a day player role.

Many say the cast is bloated. However, if they’re going to bring on new characters, make them them legacy ones the audience has been waiting for — Jeff, Serena, Brooklyn, etc.

Maybe you can wait and see? As for Jennifer Bassey (never knew of her) but you and others might be jumping the gun, which happens a lot. Perhaps she’ll have a larger role. You can’t tell from that one episode (unless you read she was only making a day appearance). As for James DP…again…wait and see. Can’t tell a thing from this. And, as for legacy characters, I’m not so sure “the audience” has been waiting. There are people who’ve followed GH for decades and those who are new and aren’t invested. Me? I just want good stories. If James’ role is a good one, I’m in.

You might want to practice what you preach 🙂 I seem to recall you made your dislike of Aunt Stella after only 2 days.

Would love to hear from other viewers what non-dead legacy characters they’d most like to see again.

Ah, my dear, Steve…LOL…you didn’t say you “disliked” Jennifer Bassey or were upset James DP was making an appearance; you expressed that you thought her role was a “disappoinment.” I was just saying that perhaps her role will pick up…that we might not have seen the last of her. Why don’t you wait and see how the Amy/Nathan story plays out and if she’s part of it. That’s why I said “wait and see…”

“Aunt Stella” wasn’t someone I knew was even making an appearance. So my disapproval was more like…why do we need this character when we could have, let’s say, Mac? And, if they want to expand the Curtis/Jordan story I’d rather see Sean back then bring in Aunt Stella. I’d also like to see more of TJ and Molly instead of Auntie Stella.

I do think we’re on the same page with legacy characters…I just resist saying
the audience” all wants, etc. realizing that there are different generations watching and some aren’t as eager to see characters from the past they’ve never heard of. Let’s face it; due to budget cuts we’re getting a paired down GH. It’s never going to be what it was….

Always nice posting with you/to you, though!

Thats just it, I dont mind ex soap stars working on GH as long as its not a new character while we sit and wait for Jeff or Jimmy Lee. I dont want to have to motor through the sludge of another FrankenPET!

I just want to add, Steve, that I’m one of the audience who has been clamoring for more legacy characters…I’d love Lucky, Nic, Mac, Alcazar, Skye…even Alice…to return! I will always bitch and moan about the treatment and demise of AJ. Ugh…don’t get me started! LOL. But, I do look forward to some of the OLTL actors they’re bringing on, whether or not they’re playing any legacy roles. As long as the character holds my interest and the story is good, which always remains to be seen.

In the words of Marlon Brando…”STELLA!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!” No. :/ (but oh how I loved that movie…).

Rebecca

I understand where you’re coming from, and we are both charter members of the “justice for AJ” more “more Mac” clubs.

The reason I like Stella is she stirred things up and we got to see TJ because of it. I can see how you don’t like the character. And I know you can understand my dislike of Amy.

Oh, Alice. I loved Alice. Why wasn’t Alice a part of Tracy’s farewell? The part could not have been recast. Only one woman could play Alice. Loved her. I’m not interested in Aunt Stella, either. I don’t care if a woman that I never heard of, who is related to a character that I don’t care about, knew who another character’s biological father was or not. I don’t care about the backstory that I never witnessed on-screen. Mind you, I think it was Friday’s episode that was spent on Aunt Stella coming to terms with “the news” while talking to TJ at Kelly’s. Waste of time on what used to be “Cliff-Hanger” Friday. Aunt Stella is Tuesday “filler”-IMO. Why not focus on the cast that is contract, or the veteran actors who we only see during the Nurse’s Ball?

@dmr

Due to preemptions, GH is currently one day behind so shows that were planned to air on Thursday will appear on Friday for the next month.

Let’s send good thoughts and best wishes to Bergen Williams (Alice). She hasn’t posted to social media in quite a while. Unfortunately, Alice has become one of those characters that disappear without notice. The Q’s don’t mention her anymore and only refer to a generic housekeeper when needed.

Speaking of the Q’s, how is Hayden still living in the mansion? And I know the den set is cheaper to use than the front living room/foyer, but how do Curtis (and others) walk through the house without being announced?

He dmr…agreed.

Steve…we were doing so well…until Amy! ahahhahahah…I LIKE Amy! I do. She’s cute, bubbly and refreshing in the midst of the dark, angst, etc. of a lot of the characters. And, though I found her insufferable…grating…when she just popped up on our screen with her inconsequential attempted recreation of Amy Vining’s persona…I think she’s quite likeable now. Not sure what the “stats’ are on her…I think I’m in the minority on this site regarding her.

Unless you were being facetious. Like, “Rebecca, I know you like Amy but since I’m cutting you slack on Aunt Stella I KNOW you’ll allow me the same.”

🙂

@Steve….Amen to your thoughts and best wishes to Bergen Williams! Her “Alice” is a truly beloved and much missed member of the GH family, and the fact that her obvious absence from the Q family manse is so keenly felt and repeatedly commented upon here at MFSoaps is a real testament to the skills of this talented actress and her hugely cheerful, inimitable presence.

HaHa, Shay. As I have mentioned a couple of times, I assimilate Helena, not only with Succubus….pardon the ‘incidental’ pun….( she can suck anyone’s life, blood and brains at will), LOL, but also with the Angel of Death navigating a ghost ship ( possibly a frigate, LOL) on the river Styx.
Soooo, whether she’s dead or alive is debatable.
It seems there’s no need for her to be ‘earthly’ to devastate PC. She manages quite well from the netherworld. I think that guy Costa, Helena’s minion did all the damage he needed to do, for a time….that includes Sam.

Oh, yeah, Shay. Picture this; ….. The Queen of Darkness, sitting at the head of a sumptuously-set table, surrounded by her spawn…all the Cassadine clan …..ALIVE…..wine glasses ( or tankards) a’clinking, laughing at our expense? LOL…Silly CeeCee.

This 30 second tease gives no clues at all.

I guess, Michael…the snippet doesn’t reveal anything. Imagination is what we need, LOL.
The only plausible interpretaion would be : psychiatrist, more so than psychologist. Perhaps Sam has (as su suggested), a tumor. So, dePaiva could be a neurologist/ brain surgeon.
What are the chances that Sam is experiencing premonitions and not hallucinations? Does she have ESP?
I think she is going to hurt someone. Namely, Sonny. She probably considers him a direct threat to Jason, herself, her family.

Hey, CeeCeeGirl! If Sam were to hurt Sonny, she would deserve a medal…about time some karma came back to bite him on his unblessed behind! But having said that, I hope this obvious “doctor” is just another one of those convenient drive-by characters solely designed to accommodate the temporary stunt casting of yet another FOF/”soap vet get” and that he is NOT Dr. Jeff Webber!!!! His is an important legacy character with a real history on the GH canvas and that needs to honored and respected with a truly fitting actor to step into the shoes of the original portrayer, Richard Dean Anderson…I simply don’t envision DePaiva as suitable candidate for that particular role.

Sonny and Carly should disappear on his island, take the summer off and come back finding Morgan in September. [A recast PLEASE!]

@Shay.
Hiyaah, Shaybelle,
LOL…one can only hope. We will know soon enough what is going on with Sam. I stand behind my original comment that Helena’s evil hand has dipped into Sam’s brain.
I truly was awaiting to meet Dr. Webber, after his name was bandied around on noth these boards and GH, itself.

Oh yes, CeeCee, I am certain that Sam’s “mystery malady” is not one attributable to a spontaneous occurrence…Helena no doubt has once again reared her glamorously-coiffed head in the direction of Port Charles for yet more evil-doing! The only question which remains is if she is doing it from the afteerlife or from a more cozy and clandestine location on this mortal coil????

@CeeCeeGirl…It seems that the big question regarding Helena (Is she or isn’t she…well and truly gone from the face of the GH planet?) will not be definitively answered anytime soon…..As you have observed, the Ice Queen is equally effective alive or dead, but I still hope that she lives on so we can see her in her gloriously glam gets-ups for yet another frightful in-the-flesh foray in Port Charles…Besides there are too many M.I.A. Cassadines yet unaccounted for….it’s too implausible that both Nik and Helena are gone for good.

I really don’t care about Sam’s dumbass brain ..
C’mon, that is best drama J&S can come up with, a sick brain lol
GH has become overly lame.

Honestly, the Sam’s brain story holds little interest and no intruge.

((my only hope for the story is Sam dies dead and is gone))

I’m waiting for Valentin return..

note; Morgan died in Oct.
every single Carly scene she has been mourning and out of control over Morgan..Again- since Oct , Carly has been talking Mrgan none stop in every , every, scene since Oct !!!
Not one, not one Carly scene since Oct has been Morgan free.

I mentioned that fact to show Oct to July (8 months) the writing for Carly has been Morgan, every scene she speaks of Morgan.

correction;
I meant episode, not scene.
Every episode..

But– every scene is quite close LOL Carly for 8 months has not gone a day without her bringing Morgan up.

Actually you are extremely wrong. Carly has had a whole storyline where she rarely has discussed Morgan! I know youre not a father, Su….but parents do grieve theor children. And ee all know Morgan is not really dead…it wasnt written that way. Carly changed Avery’s paternity tests back in the day to indicate Sonny was the father, not Morgan. Those are stories that still need to play out.

i dont recall sam ever having a brain-smart or dumb-lol

You may not like the Sam story, but I don’t like your sentiments for her. Not nice. Agree about Carly. Add Sonny to the Morgan ad nauseum.

I don’t see the difference between dmr’s sentiments ( she’s right, my opinion) and your sentiments concerning Carly and Sonny, Rose.
Ad nauseam means they turn your stomach. ( nausea).
So, we cannot pick and choose. And, none of us should cast stones. We refer to the characters.
I am sure Kelly is a wonderful, lively person.

Hi Rose//
Sam is Not Real, Sam is a character, not real..
I do like her and I can do all kinds of things to her because she is not real lol ..

As for whomever the Sam actress is she looks ridiculous wearing 6” heels 24/7 and she should refuse to wear those dumb things to bed.
She is short and she should own it as Sam..
nothing wrong with being short except when trying to be 6” taller wearing 6” heels.
outside of the heels I know nothing of the actress.
🙂

Celia…Guess how I use ad nauseum is different than you in my my comment to su. Not sure how dmr’s got included. But my ad nauseum re: Carly and Sonny is more that ‘something has been done or repeated so often that it has become annoying or tiresome.’ And I’m sure I’m not alone here. Plus, I don’t mind Sam as some others do.

So tired of Sam and her whining. The character (I know some like her) is overworked and boring. This show really needs to look at its cast and cut the fat or else it could be in jeopardy.

Vicki, I agree; although, I’ve never thought to describe Sam as whiny. I have always described her as “Monotone Sam.” & to Su0000 above, I have commented before on the 6 inch black winter boots that Sam wears, with the black leggings, white or black tees, and black leather jacket. It’s a shame, because KM is a pretty actress, and when dressed in color, it livens the actress up! Her wardrobe could be and should be spruced up!

I’m with you love Valentin wish he was on everyday. He is great.
Put him back with Nina they are like Romeo and Juliet.

Karen R, I commented above, that I love how Valentin and Nina bring out each other’s vulnerabilities. Valentin, once disabled, turned evil, allowed himself to be loved by Charlotte and Nina. Nina, once entitled, then heartbroken and left comatose, allowed herself to lower her guard and be loved by Valentin. Yes, she’s insecure and at times, socially awkward, but she changes when she is around him and I like them together.

Not to worry, Karen. I think Valentin is only around the corner. He will be back.

I love Valentin too but I’m not sure how soon they’re bringing him back. Just read an interview with James Patrick Stuart who said if they brought him back he’d love to reprise the role…but he indicated for the present there are no plans. So, either he was trying to throw the reader off so we’d be pleasantly surprised…or we’re going to have to wait awhile before/if he returns. They obviously left the door open by having Alex visit him in lockup and offer him his freedom…so it seems he will at some point reappear.

Karen…At least I was lucky to see James Patrick Stuart/ on a Castle re-run the other day. He was a federal agent with a clean-cut look. Prefer GH version, but while we wait until he gets his get-out-of-jail card (I hope)…it was good to see him again.

I agree with you, su000. & thank you, Celia. Many of us seem to agree with each other’s sentiments about Monotone Sam and the Moron (and his parents); however, we continue to watch either daily or have the show in the background (me). Also, many of us agree that TPTB should work and write for the bloated cast that exists, or clean house and work with the legacy characters (again, my preference). I also read another blog and its comments and many have similar opinions that are posted on here. I’m hoping the show will improve. I’ve watched since 1984.

Thanks for the GH synopsis, dmr. You know your stuff. I’ve been lucky to have many GH fans, such as yourself, Shay, Timmm, Steve, Ala, Jimh etc., who are such good storytellers, I have learned much.
I did not know any of the characters, but, you know how it goes….we form attachments to a handful of characters/actors and develop antipathy for others. It’s the nature of the human beast, LOL.
I took to AJ instantly…I can’t explain it; I just did. Perhaps, it was because he appeared vulnerable—the underdog??
I find it disgusting that Michael turned his back on him while opening his arms to “Dada” Sonny.
It just makes no sense, which fortifies my adverse reaction towards TPTB. I ask why?
Rhetorical question, LOL. We know why—to catapult St. Sonny through the heavens, sitting shotgun to whom?

Write for existing characters! If this is a few day gig, okay

maybe jeff but at the moment i really dont care

I like the idea of Doc Weber coming on, giving Sam, Elizebeth and Hayden more content to play against. Great idea. Also, of course Carly still is talking about Morgan, she should for at least a year, Mothers never get over the loss of a child. But additionally there is rumor they are bring Morgan back, (never found a body) in which case keeping his story going is important to his return. I love GH. Have watched it since 1970’s and it doesn’t let me down. Sure there are story lines that maybe I would write differently now and then, but most the time, I love it. Thanks Writers, welcome new writer.

Connie, you are absolutely right. A mother/parent, never forgets her deceased child….that child lives inside said parents, every day of their lives.
By the same token, I do get what su, and others, are saying.
This is a soap, we watch, mainly, for entertainment and because we love our storie, and most characters, whether we agree or disagree.
I think the Morgan thing is over the top, for a soap. No one talks about Nikolas Cassadine……and, AJ was never mentioned after he died. Why?
We all know both Nik and Morgan will eventually return.
I think it would be so much more effective if the writing would give the Morgan entity a wide berth, so that when he does come back, his resurrection will have a greater impact.
Personally, he can stay gone…lost somewhere with amnesia.
It’s a soap, and Morgan was not tops on many a list.

My hope is that Morgan will come back with a bigger more interesting story line. A change up. I understand that it is a soap opera and you want the story to move on, but didn’t you think it odd that there was no funeral for Nicolas, Laura grieved very little, and the son was just sent away? That felt very wrong to me. Nicolas was loved by many. So maybe there is a place in between the two extremes that writers can write too. Not too long on a story emotion, but not to eliminate the emotion completely. Thanks for your reply.

Amen, CeeCee! Whether Morgan walks amongst the dead or undead is of no interest for me, as long as he stays the heck out of Port Charles! Too much time and effort has already been wasted on this mediocrity of a character—who wasn’t worth a fraction of AJ or even Nik!—-And that includes all the endless moping by “Mother of the Year,” Carly!

Great point Cee, Nick was beloved! They finally gave Spencer a mourning scene for his dad! OR, was it an act from young HAMMY?

Celia, a while back, not sure if it was during when Guza wrote for the show, the character of AJ Quartermaine was completely decimated. Actually, the entire Quartermaine Family was completely decimated, to make way for the Dimpled Don and his Mob Empire to rule the show. (Mind you, I was a die hard fan of Sonny Corinthos when he first entered Port Charles). The beloved Quartermaine Family were abolished and imagine my shock yesterday, when I saw Hayden accepting visitors at the Quartermaine Estate! I loved Sean Kanan as AJ and I was excited to see him return a few years back. Unfortunately, the Dimpled Don put an end to AJ (once again) and all was forgiven by Michael. AJ is barely mentioned, Michael’s foundation in AJ’s name has been forgotten about, and he still refers to Sonny as his dad.
Morgan, in my opinion, was a disaster from day one. The actor was paired with Kristen Alderson, and the pairing had zero chemistry. That, and the gambling storyline was badly written and played out. Both characters (Morgan and Kiki) were unlikeable and a lot of screen time was given to these “filler” characters with a boring, badly driven plot. A lot of screen time was given to Morgan over the years, trying to boost the character and family element, and I always thought the scenes were overly acted. Morgan was very unlikeable, petulant, and spoiled. Because I never liked him, and I thought he had no redeemable qualities while on-screen, I can’t stand to hear of him being painted as a Saint, off-screen.

How Leslie Charleson could have read the lines about Jason and Sonny last week without throwing up baffles me. Monica could have thrown in a “after what Sonny did to AJ” to be authentic to character.

After losing 3 children to violence, Monica should be the poster child for anti-violence.

@Connie.
No worries, Connie…and, you are welcomed.
I did not want to appear callous when speaking of Morgan. I have lost a child; therefore, I know first hand what that kind of pain is like. It never goes away. It’s always there, beneath the surface.
But, this is a soap and the viewer gets easily bored when a storyline stands still.
Take care.

@Timmm.
Hey, T,
You know, I feel the same way. Specer is hamming it up; and, very good at it.
I always suspected he knows his father is alive. We shall see.
Good to know we can still follow the same train of thought. LOL.

hey dmr…

you and I are completely on the same page on AJ! (and Sean Kanan!) I was beyond thrilled when I heard that AJ was coming back and that Sean was reprising the role…I LOVED that Micahel was FINALLY getting to know his father instead of being kept from him and poisoned against him his whole life. UGGGGG!!!! Always infuriated me! They seemed to be on a great track and then bam!!! The writers screwed AJ again in every way possible (even by Liz who he WAS literally scr…ummmm…dating/sleeping with!) 😉

We do disagree with Morgan, though. I loved Morgan. First, I thought Bryan Craig was outstanding in the role. He brought such passion, his mania, his sorrow, his lust, his hurt…just thought he knocked it out of the park each time.

I also liked the character development and never saw him as a brat or spoiled. As I’ve always said, between his insecurities at being sent away at a young age while Micheal seemed to bask in Sonny’s glow…then being diagnosed with BP…I can’t attribute any of his behavior to spoiled, bratty, etc. I think his was a deep character, rich and someone I cared about. I also think he and Haley Erin as Kiki had great chemistry (though I love her with Dillon.)

LOL. I know you disagree, strongly, about Morgan and I think Bryan, too. That’s okay. But it’s always strange to see how characters can effect us all so differently. Like people in real life. We click with some, not with others.

@dmr….You have just perfectly encapsulated the way I regard the aforementioned characters…well, all except for Sonny, who was NEVER my cup of tea!!! LOL…. But we are definitely on the same page as it relates to AJ (and Morgan, too! The lesser said, the better, about that last one…) The Quartermaine “crown prince” forever lacked fair treatment from any of the GH showrunners….his initial stint left much to be desired at best, and his later return and subsequent inglorious ending was an absolute travesty…one that seemed to be more predicated by an overwhelming impulse to wreak revenge upon the actor who played the role than any real need to create a dramatic exit for Sean Kanan’s character’s departure. Any soap writer with a basic sense of foresight would have provided a more clever and less permanent manner for such a beloved legacy player to leave the canvas if they had only kept in mind the fact that there was a large audience who was still hoping to see AJ (eventually) live another day in Port Charles. Quite obviously, the animosity harbored for Kanan was the overriding motivating factor when it came to deciding how the Q heir would be conveniently banished from not just the current happenings of Port Charles, but any future GH involvement down the line, and that’s what continues to irk many of his fans, especially since one cannot help but think this “method to the madness” was not so much due to a simple clash of egos and professional differences surrounding the direction of a soap character, but a much more personal vendetta aimed squarely at a bright, involved individual who is clearly well-informed and deeply-engaged in the world at large….not to mention, very apparently his own man when it comes to stating his outspoken opinions on a variety of subjects outside of the soap bubble!

I dont know who this doctor will be but Sam needs help. did somebody slip her some lsd or some funny mushrooms?

Well, Linda, I did say Sam was “trippin’ “, but, it didn’t post. LOL.

Heather is her secret nanny!

Has Sam been drinking any special iced tea lately???

Sam wears me out. That’s all. 🙂

At this point I fast forward through everything that doesn’t involve Ava, Brad, Laura, or Nina so I doubt I’ll learn — or lose much sleep over — what is going on with Sam. Whatever it is, I’m sure it will require endless scenes of her processing it…

GH is the king of rehashing! They will hold a gun on a character at the beginning of the show and pull the trigger at the end for tomorrow’s cliffhanger! They do this in hospital scenes to where they have a bad ass threatening to pull a plug or suffocate a patient for FIFTY NINE MINUTES!

Love my Nina….and with Valentin? Smoldering!!

Brad is comedic gold, especially when he’s with Britt!!! Bring her back….

I loved Britt and Brad.

Their friendship (and snarky comments when they watched the Nurses Ball) are sorely missed.

Absolutely, Alan…I found them not only highly amusing, but very relatable. Most of us gals have had a “Brad” or two…or three….at various points in our lives and the friendship he had with Britt was quite authentic! I think both characters were at their ultimate best when they were playing off each other!!!!

JdP as Sam’s doctor may spill into the larger story. So, apparently Steve Burton is coming back. Billy Miller is on contract through October. The long-speculated Tale of Two Jasons. Sam’s mysterious illness is probably related.

Maybe Heather was kind of telling the truth. Did Susan have twins? How far back does this go? Could a switch occurred right after the AJ/Jason car accident and SB returns as a long lost Jason Q? Lots of possibilities. At first blush, this sounds more like a Ron story than Shelly. Whatever, this could be the major shakeup the show needs.

Very interesting, Steve.
I had no idea Burton was coming back. Hmmmmm. Looking forward to whatever story his return will potentally ensue.

It hasn’t been announced yet, but soap Twitter is off the hook with the topic

I am not on Twitter….never will be. It takes courage to be masochistic. I guess I’m a coward? LOL.
Not on Facebook, either. I try to stay away from danger. I’ve never parachuted either….same thing to me.
I am fine without social media in my life.

Oops, pressed submit too soon.
Seriously, though….I think the idea that there are two Jasons is sooo soapy and intriguing. I like it…..I know, the overly used lost twin concept.
Who you gonna blame? Helena. She has had the real Jason all along?
Well, if things develop this way, will the ambiance change? Serendipity is in order, yes?
Or will there be this neverending pall over PC?….gloomiest place to live.
I only know Burton as Dylan MacAvoy(sp)….. the robo cop. I did, however, appreciate his acting at the end of his tenure on Y&R.
My point? Will I like him as Jason Morgan?

You and me, both, CeeCeeGirl! But, of course, Helena will be at the root of these “Dueling Jasons” should this tantalizing storyline actually come to fruition…isn’t she always? As for your unfamiliarity with Steve Burton in his original role, all I can tell you is just keep in mind the term “Stone Cold” was coined in his honor…that pretty much says it all!!!! Soooo…not much difference than “Dylan the Robo Cop,” I guess….

Celia & Shay
Steve Burton did create a unique soap persona with “stone cold” Jason Morgan. However, go back to the early 90’s and Burton was quite lively and liked as Jason Quartermaine. If he’s truly up for an acting challenge, coming back as JQ (while Miller remains JM) would be it.

Thank you, Shay and Steve.
You guys always indulge me with backstories. I appreciate it.
I did understand that Jason Quartermaine was a completely different person …….faaaar from Jason Morgan.
As I said, it will be a compelling feat to see how this is acted out.
Also, if Burton is able to switch personalities so adroitly—-back and forth between the two Jasons, then kudos to him for his skill—true thespian.
I do like your suggestion that BM remain to be JQ, Steve.
How Sam fits into this equation remains to be seen. Veee-ry inte-resting!!

Celia (and other newer viewers)

Just to clarify, as far as we know, Jason Quartermaine and Jason Morgan are the same person. When he awoke from the car accident with AJ, Jason’s memories were wiped away and his personality completely changed. Agitated with the Quartermaines (except Lila), he changed his name and began his bond with Sonny.

What I’m suggesting is that sometime around the accident, JQ was taken and replaced with his never before seen twin. It would explain JM not remembering his Q years. To bring Steve Burton back, he would play the original (perhaps held in captivity) Quartermaine with all the memories of his younger years. Billy Miller would continue to play “Jason” Morgan character who would be the father of Sam’s two kids.

A lot to digest, I know. But it gets us back an authentic Quartermaine.

@CeeCee….In their original incarnations, AJ and Jason were akin to Highlight’s childhood mainstays, “Goofus and Gallant”…remember them? That’s the simplest way to illustrate the initial differences between these “Brothers Q.” After their car accident, Jason morphed into a Morgan, but AJ forever remained in the same familiar messed-up mold…right up until his untimely death. As for Sam, I shudder to think how this development could affect her, particularly in light of her currently precarious condition! These “Two Jasons” could really push her over the proverbial edge, or at the very least, send her into permanent “processing” mode!!!!

Thank you, Steve. I knew that JQ and JM are the same person whose personality “split” after JQ had his accident.
And, I agree with what you are describing.
Trust me, you write very clearly, and intelligibly. I understood what you meant. What you say makes sense. The real Jason was replaced with this new Jason (BM) , while the original was kept in captivity. The twin story always works.
As I said….I love your theory. It is sound; as far as soaps go. LOL.

I hear you on the saddle shoes, CeeCee! Had to wear them for cheerleading and hated every minute of them! They were ugly and uncomfortable…but then again, I generally reject any shoes/boots that don’t have at least a four-inch heel….hah! (Shades of Sam…..) As for those old tv shows….yeah, life sure did seem far more simple way back when…people dressed with greater pride and flair, behaved with far better manners and the rules of life were clearly spelled out…..break them at your own peril! Love me those old commercials, too….even though most of them would never be allowed on the air today because somebody would surely find something “un-pc” in them about which to gripe. Such is the world today….

I think it’s a great theory, Steve…it’s been floating around. And, actually, this could be the CHIMERA theory…Jason could be the Chimera twins…so to speak!

With that said, as much as I’d love it (as long as Billy was staying because I’ve “grown accustomed to his face” 😉 I find it hard to believe that Burton wants back on a soap full time. He’s got his restaurant, his nutrition line…why not just go back to Y&R which is supposedly why he left.

I’m thinking this is a short stint, whatever it is. Twin or flashback in Sam’s mind….

I really like your train of thought regarding the “switched” Jason theory, Steve! It would be the GH version of the “Doublemint Twins”…two, two, two Q’s in one!!(Okay, I know that was really Certs, but still…the slogan works so well in this instance, too!) That way we can continue having our Billy Miller cake and original recipe Jason whipped up in one logically-delicious treat! Works for me!

Aha! Doublemint Twins, indeed. Love those 50’s commercials ( or was it the 60’s?). Once in a while these classic commercials are on TV……and, a slew of them on the internet.
And the outfits….my grandmother has a chest in the attic filled with irreplaceable treasure….the poodle skirts are my favorite. My least favorite; saddle shoes. What were they thinking?? HaHa.
And, all those sit-coms—life seems to have been so simple….only three channels ( networks). WOW!! Archie Bunker beats them all.

Anyway, I have always loved Billy Miller, since his bad-boy, Richie days (AMC). I have not connected with his Jason….same applies to Jason Thompson’s Billy.
Having the best of both worlds would be grand, Shay……but, if Burton’s role is a fixation in Sam’s mind, we lose.

I must comment, out of context, on Ava’s performance, today. She always has me transfixed….never fails. This lady is outrageously talented—never misses a beat.

she’s very important —this is all wrong !!!

Bring back Jeff Webber and Heather Webber and Diana Taylor and Annie! GLORY DAYS!

If you’re gonna bring back Diana Taylor, you’ve gotta bring back Susan Moore! Maybe she’d remember if she had twins.

Diana Taylor is dead — Heather’s mother Alice Grant killed her.

I wouldn’t mind seeing Anne Logan return to Port Charles (her adopted son Jeremy could come back too). Joe Kelly is another character I’d like to see come back.

Susan Moore died, too! Didn’t she drive into a brick wall under the influence and succumb to her massive injuries???? That’s why Jason came to live with the Q’s in the first place, right???? Last we heard Anne was canoodling with dishy Dr. Noah Drake on the West Coast….update??? Joe Kelly was at his best when he was dealing with the diabolically daffy Heather….even though he was such a straight-shooter he hadn’t the wherewithal to deal with her special sort of crazy!

Shay

Susan was killed by Crane Tolliver, Lila’s first husband whose divorce was invalid. Some of Leslie Charleson’s best scenes were of her accepting baby Jason into the mansion.

Prior to her affair with Alan, Susan had an affair with Tracy’s second husband, Mitch Williams.

There was a throwaway line from Bobbie (to explain her return) saying Noah & Anne were together.

Prior to hooking up with Heather, didn’t Joe fool around with Rose, behind his father’s back? Rose needed bacon for those BLTs lol

Thanks for the correction, Steve! I recall seeing Susan have that awful accident during my Christmas school break and then she died soon after, but, yes, it was at the hands of Crane Tolliver…I actually missed seeing that part, so I only remembered her car crash and that she was soon dead after that fact, leading to Jason eventually being brought up by the Q’s. As for Joe, he pined for Anne in an unrequited fashion, dallied with both Bobbie and Heather, but in terms of Rose, weren’t they really quite in love with each other for many years but fought to deny those feelings out of respect for Paddy??? I know that she married him very young, and so she was stuck in a real May-December situation there until his death…I honestly am unaware if they ever actually canoodled upstairs at Kelly’s because I didn’t watch the show every single day back then, but I do believe they ultimately ended up together when both characters departed the GH canvas??? Oh, and she had a fling with Jake Meyer, too, right?

Shay, I’m a bit hazy on those characters too, but I seem to recall Rose leaving a few years after Joe (probably after her breakup with Jake). She might have went to rendezvous with Joe, but I’m not sure.

The Kelly’s diner set is the longest set in continuous use on the show. The hospital hub was rebuilt from the ground up as the show made the switch to HD. The Q living room/foyer/stairs were significantly changed in the early 90’s (around the same time they introduced the Q den set).

Steve…I just read your comment about Kelly’s diner and the Q living room. How do you KNOW these things!!!???? I find it amazing; truly. I would never be able to keep track of that stuff…particularly the Q living room and den set! You should be an archiver!

@rebecca1
GH archiver would be a dream job! I’ve watched the show off/on since 77, I’d guess. My mom always had it on when I came home from school. I got control of the tv at 4:00 lol.

I’ve always had a keen interest in the backgrounds and some of the sets. I loved the giant numbers on the elevator doors of the hospital hub set. Nowadays, they seem to be lazy and do close to every thing on the 10th floor. Traditionally, the highest floor in GH, one wonders where those stairs lead to, since the roof is accessible elsewhere. In the early days of the show (well before I watched) most of the action took place on the 7th floor. Other than 10, these days we occasionally see the lobby/emergency entrance, 4 (pediatrics) and 8 (psychiatric).

Once in a blue moon, I’ll watch some old scenes on YouTube and that will jar my memory about sets. In all the years, I don’t think we’ve ever seen the Q kitchen, which explains why Cook and Cook II have never been seen.

I notice when they reuse old sets. Elizabeth’s current house uses pieces of the old Webber/Jones/Scorpio house. The Perks set is a modified version of the dock set used before they introduced Pier 52.

They’ve occasionally repurposed some All My Children sets. Anna’s house is an example.

Budgets are so tight these days, and that’s apparent when characters meet in questionable surroundings — i.e. It seems half the town has access to the Q den (and never get announced).

@rebecca1

Having watched the show off/on for 40 years helps. Also, once in a blue moon, I’ll watch old scenes on YouTube and am intrigued by the background and set.

GH archiver would be a dream job. If anyone has questions about any sets, I’m sure I could provide details.

Nancy Lee Grahn’s Star-Studded ALS Fundraiser Reveals “I’ll Be There” Video Featuring Soap Opera Notables

Talk about your impressive line-up! It’s a soap fans dream and for a great cause. General Hospital’s Nancy Lee Grahn (Alexis Davis) is prepping her one-night only ALS fundraiser which will feature many of her friends and co-stars.

The benefit is set for May 4th in Glendale, California. Slated to participate are Genie Francis, Jane Elliot, Peter Bergman, Maurice Benard, Eileen Davidson, Thorsten Kaye, Michelle Stafford, Stephen Nichols, Rena Sofer, Jason Thompson, Kelly Monaco, Melissa Claire Egan, Maura West, Kristina Wagner, Gregory Harrison, Trevor St. John, Kate Mansi, Kirsten Storms, Cynthia Watros, and many others.

On Wednesday, Grahn took to her social media and released an “I’ll be there” video shout-out featuring, Monaco, Elliot, Bergman, Bernard, West, Harrison, St. John and more. In a touching and important moment in the new video, Michelle Strogny, who is battling ALS, is featured.

Previously, in speaking with Soap Opera Digest on the impetus of the event, Grahn recalled, “I was actually doing Zoom events during Covid and I met this woman that I just fell in love with, Michelle Strojny. At the time, Michelle had been living with ALS for four years. Now, it’s five years. She is a mom of a teenage son, she has the most wonderful husband, and she has been dealing with this [disease] for quite a while. And obviously, there isn’t a cure yet. It’s not survivable yet. But as she says, it’s not incurable. Nothing is; it’s underfunded. But anyway, I just really dug this woman. She is so grounded and filled with grace, and she spends all of her time working to raise money for the cause. We did a fundraiser for her last year and then I thought, ‘You know what? The soaps don’t ever get together to do something for charity.’ Collectively, we have this amazing community and we don’t collectively use it for a good cause, and I think it’s such an easy thing for us to do and we could potentially really make a difference.”

As GH viewers know, Gregory Harrison is playing the character of Gregory Chase, who is also battling ALS in a touching storyline that is currently playing out shedding a light on this disease.

‘General Hospital’ Writer Shannon Peace Let Go, and Shares on Sprina: “One of My Only Regrets is to Not Have the Opportunity to Develop That ‘Ship’ Further”

As General Hospital’s new head writing team of Elizabeth Korte and Patrick Mulcahy gets off the ground and running, there are still changes a foot on the writing team.

Now comes word via breakdown writer Shannon Peace that she is no longer on contract with the long-running ABC soap heading into its 61st season. Peace shared a heartfelt message on her Instagram, thanking the fans, and the show for the opportunity and the importance of diversity in the writers room.

Peace began, “After almost 3 years on staff and 106 episodes penned, I am no longer on contract with General Hospital. Writing for this country’s longest running television serial drama has been an education of epic proportions; I will forever be grateful that I earned my WGA card on a daytime fixture that holds memories for so many.” (Peace pictured below with GH EP Frank Valentini and script writer, Charlotte Gibson from about ten months ago).

Shannon added “Even more importantly, as the sole Black breakdown writer (and only POC in the writers room) during my tenure, I pushed for vital interactions and discussions that prioritized inclusion, visibility, and representation”

The writer pointed to the example of vital interaction when in story, “Stella and Portia’s frank July 2022 conversation about the role race played in Esme’s framing of Trina is just one example of the impact I’m gratified to have had.”

Acknowledging former GH co-head writers was also part of Peace’s farewell expressing, “Appreciation to my former bosses, Chris Van Etten and Dan O’Connor – not only taking a chance on me, but for valuing my opinion and championing my voice.”

Many GH fans know that Peace was key to the development of the love story between Trina Robinson and Spencer Cassadine as played by Tabyana Ali and Nicholas Chavez. Shannon gave a special shout-out to ‘Sprina’ fans, “I also want to thank fans who were supportive of my work, especially the recognition of my love for ‘Sprina’. One of my only regrets is not having to develop that ‘ship’ further.”

She concludes her statement with,”In the aftermath of a historic writer’s strike that shed new light on the troubling ways writers are regarded in daytime, my sincere hope is that General Hospital recommits to valuing staff writer efforts and input, with a more intentional focus on diverse viewpoints — and thrives for another 60 years.”

Accompanying her post, Shannon added, “Thank you all for the love and support these last few years. I hope GH fans get all they hope for and more!”

So, what do you think about GH not renewing Shannon’s contract? Will there be more continued changes afoot? What do you think is the future of ‘Sprina’ anyway at this point as viewers wait to see if Nicholas Chavez officially returns to the show?  Comment below.

GENERAL HOSPITAL: Jason Learns Britt Died and Tells Anna He Has Been Working For Cates Since November 2021

On the Tuesday, March 26th of General Hospital, Anna (Finola Hughes) and the viewers learn about where Jason (Steve Burton) has been for over two and half years. However, Jason gets some news of his own.

Anna is visiting Jason at the PCPD interrogation room. She asks him if he shot Dante (Dominic Zamprogna), which he flatly denies. Anna believes him, but she tells Jason it doesn’t matter, because video footage shows him on the roof at the time of the shooting

When talk turns to Jason not willing to speak without his lawyer present, Anna can’t grasp why Jason would instead spend an hour alone talking with John Cates (Adam J. Harrington).

Photo: ABC

It is then that Anna brings up that John went by “Jagger” and that the two of them knew each other in high school. Jason doesn’t recall much of his time in high school following his brain injury, but then he gets furious realizing John knew about “Jason’s” past. That is when Jason slams the table and tells Anna, “I’ve been working for John Cates since November 2021.”

Next, Jason explains further that he has been working as an informant for the FBI. Anna wants to know how this came about and he tells her that after the tunnel collapsed, and he couldn’t make it to Britt (Kelly Thiebaud)… all of a sudden he sees Anna’s face drop.  Anna is the first person to tell him that Britt died and was murdered. She tells Jason the killer is in custody, but he continues to be shocked, overwhelmed with tears welling up in his eyes. Realizing he has to pivot to save his life, Jason continues telling Anna how he wound up working with John.

Jason explains that after the tunnel collapse in Greece, FBI agents grabbed him and placed him under arrest and took him to Quantico where he met John. At Quantico, John played a recording of RICO violations and offered Jason a deal if he agreed to be an informant against Pikeman, the illegal arms dealer.

Anna hears from Jason that he thinks Pikeman is selling illegal arms to anyone flagged by the NSA but has ties to the WSB which they needed a civilian to infiltrate their organization as a military soldier, a mercenary.

Jason tells Anna he was a part of the team brought into eliminate Sonny (Maurice Benard). Every time an attempt was made on Sonny’s life over the last two years, a different team was sent to do the job. Anna gets furious when she learns that John told Jason his job was to kill Sonny and she was with John at the warehouse that night. Jason ensured the sniper missed Sonny and left the rifle behind. However, they were supposed to meet an extraction team. Before he was shot, Dante saw it was Jason on the roof and when he turned around with his hands over his head, Dante was shot by the other guy. Jason says if Dante dies, he’ll be charged with capital murder and then will be useless to the FBI.

Photo: ABC

Meanwhile, John visits Bobbie’s and runs into Carly (Laura Wright). She learns Jason is in custody and is going to head to the PCPD. Before she does, Carly has some words with Cates when she learns not only does John have a vendetta against Sonny, but Jason too.  Carly tells John he should recuse himself from the case.

So, what did you think about the moment when Jason learned Britt died? What do you think of Jason’s return storyline thus far and what we learned about Jagger/Jason and more? Comment below. But first, check out a moment from today’s GH with Jason and Anna.
