Melody Thomas Scott, Doug Davidson and Lauralee Bell Chat It Up! But Who Should Paul End Up With … Nikki or Christine?

Courtesy/CBS

After recent revelations in Genoa City, Christine is upset over Nikki and Paul’s growing closeness over the shocker that Dylan (Steve Burton) is their bio-son!  Meanwhile legal eagle Christine wanted to have a child with Paul!  Christine seems to have been over-reacting to the entire situation, but do her emotions have merit?

Well, according to this new interview with TV Guide Magazine’s Michael Logan, the conflict looks like its heating up even further, as Nikki is about to go off the deep end and hit the bottle! Will Paul spend his time getting her into rehab? Will Christine be able to convince Paul to start a family with him, when he seems reluctant to do so?  Here’s an excerpt of what these three long-standing Genoa City residents had to say about the situation!

Melody on if Nikki is intentionally trying to move in on Chris’s man:  “Nikki is always a wild card, though she’s not consciously trying to steal Paul, at least according to anything I’ve seen in the scripts so far. Not at all! Nikki has no idea her behavior is inappropriate. She’s always been a bull in a china shop — completely clueless to the damage she’s doing.”

Lauralee on how Nikki and Paul having a child in Dylan is wreaking havoc for Christine:  “Chris has no idea how to fight this. Nikki and Paul now have something in common that Chris and Paul may never have, and that’s a major issue. It trumps everything. And it doesn’t stop. Now, Nikki somehow finds her way up to the mountains while they’re having a belated honeymoon. And she stays! [Laughs] At one point, Chris walks in and sees them cozily working together on a jigsaw puzzle, which I’m sure the viewers will find hilarious. But Chris is pissed. The history Paul and Nikki share is a tough thing to compete with.”

Doug on the bond that Nikki and Paul share versus the bond that Paul and Christine share:  “Nikki and Paul already share a long history. Now, suddenly, they share a son. What do Paul and Chris have when it gets right down to it? Careers.”

So who do you want Paul to end up with?  Would you like to see Nikki and Paul finally get together again romantically?  Or, are you rooting for Christine and Paul to work their marital issues? Or, would you like to see Paul get as far away from both ladies?   Weigh-in below!

Nikki belongs with Victor.
No way should she and Paul
get together now, just because
they have a son now…a grown son!
And Paul should help Christine
get over her insecurities, stay
together with her, and everyone
should just move on and get along…
as friends.

Either way, Paul looses…lol

Agreed.
Watching Chris and Nikki converse is like watching a Horse whispering contest.
Speak of ladies! And while I hate it when someone orders a woman to smile, it would be nice if these two horse whisperers would smile once in awhile.
I swear, back when we had answering machines, I bet these two whisperers were cut off all the time while leaving a message.
(Whispering)”Hi Paul it’s Nikki, I have something to tell you….”BEEP! Paul shrugs his shoulders and listens to the next message. (whispering) “Hi Paul, it’s Cricket. I just wanted to tell you….”BEEP!

Nikki & Paul always will BFF,(because Victor will always be Nikki love of her life) NEVER been a fan of Paul & Chris, need bring back Nina for Paul, and Danny back for Chris.

I’m sorry, but I feel zero passion or romance between Paul and Chris. Years ago, yes. But not in quite awhile. She comes off like a cold fish.

Most of these couples are not written with passion anymore. It’s just the ridiculous writing with no creativity. Honestly, none of these couples are written well anymore. Since none of the couples have much passion, I believe it’s the bland writing and directing. All they have is a bunch of bed hoppers. Even Nick and Sharon seem to lose their passion.

I agree that the writing is not what it was in the 70s, 80s, even the 90s. But I also can’t ignore the fact that Lauralee Bee plays the part like an Ice Princess.

Yes she does, Jonboy. And it seems out-of-character for Christine. The Cricket we know would have embraced both Dylan and Niki after the reveal. She would not be sucking in her cheeks and bristling anytime Niki or Dylan comes near Paul That’s not our sweet little Cricket! Why, that’s more indicative of a Preying Mantis.

Christine is a homewrecker, remember Paul was about to marry Nina and Christine come and ruin everything, so she is getting a taste of her own medicine for breaking up Nina and paul.

Juls…Y-E-S…THANK YOU!!!!! AGREED!!!!! I LOVE LOVE LOVE LOVE Nina!!!!! And, to me, Paul was WAY MORE INTERESTING when he was with Nina. As for that saintly (OH BARF!!!!!) Christine, I am S-O- S-I-C-K of Christine and her self-righteous, snotty and stank A-T-T-I-T-U-D-E…ENOUGH ALREADY!!!!! Christine=BITCHY ICE PRINCESS!!!!! B-L-E-C-H!!!!!!

If I didn’t know better I’d swear the actress wasn’t into guys. I feel zero sexuality or femininity coming from her.

Well in the end it doesn’t really matter, because Nikki will always go back to Victor and why Paul would be fool enough to go down that road with her again is beyond me. It could only mean the writers writing this show never watched it.

And I love Doug Davidson, but to imply Nikki and Paul have more history and more between them because she had a love child that didn’t exist until last year is an insult to all the Christine and Paul fans. Christine and Paul were once one of shows best couples– it has been the writing this year that has turned Christine into someone as a long time viewer fail to recognize. Christine Blair who once stood up to the likes of Rose, Phyllis, Ricky’s crazy mom, etc would suddenly become a insecure child with Nikki of all people is beyond me. Again it just means no one running the show today has any concept of who these characters are and how they should be written.

Thank you Mary you are spot on! Doug has been saying a lot of foolish things lately. I guess he does not even know his character’s history lousy Father material. Both Heather & Ricky were abandoned and he and Nikki were never star crossed lovers. I believe if memory serves Paul gave Nikki a std way back in the day. As for Christine it must be hard for the actress to watch her Father’s legacy being destroyed. The three bandits Latham, Bell & Phelps have turned filet mignon of the soaps into hamburger.

I had to reply here, k/kay.
For you, I will stop speaking of said subject if you would be so kind as to answer a few questions. Why does that bother you? Would you quit watching if it happened? Do you watch DAYS, if not, is it because of Will and Sonny? Would you ever watch? If you were given a choice and had to watch said subject on any show, would you rather it be two men or two women? Soaps are strong with female fans…how do you think they would answer the men vs the women question? Please reply.

@Days I was only making a point that Phelps and the crew are totally rewriting history between Nikki & Paul. It was not a love affair it has always been Victor for Nikki. They were just two wild kids Paul has not always been this pillar of the community. Lol As for Days I was a big fan of the show for years then just quit watching in the Reilly years it became a little out there with the Devil possession storyline. I have not watched probably in 10 yrs. to go back to it now seems silly and no it would not be because they have a gay storyline over there from everything I have heard it has been well done. Also I am really not watching any of them on a regular basis just decided it is to hard to watch in the evenings with my work schedule the way it is now. Need to spend time with hubby and he loathes soap operas.

@k/kay

thank for inquiring about my longevity

2 weeks off… was a let

LOL… OMG… I’m home now
“Need to spend time with hubby”

that’s our criteria

I thank him for letting me be… with MF and soaps… and posters…. i’m IN

I’ll celebrate and stand for… with…. you… and us… me… I love this genre

Always the voice of reason, Mary. So right…well said.

I have been watching Y&R since I was 14 . But, I am still confused about the timeline of Nikki’s pregnancy as a 16-year old? My mother is not too clear about that either. …..busy raising 4 kids, I guess. As far as she can remember, Nikki first appeared in Genoa City as a messed-up, trouble-making, not-so-young -kid? …..soooo confused !!

4ever Days–I am not KKay but if I were, I would have to channel Arrested Development’s Lucille Bluth and answer,”I don’t understand the question and I refuse to answer it.”

@ harry it did take me a while to figure out where Days was coming at then the light bulb went off. The thread on Meredith Baxter coming to Y&R and the constant talking about her character having sex with Nikki. I thought it was a crazy idea still do.

Nikki will always end up with Victor but I see her and Paul getting close for awhile. How about Victor and Chelsea’s mom? She would get under Nikki’s skin and would consider nabbing Victor as her greatest con!.

I actually like Chelsea’s mom (her name escapes me). I’d much prefer that to Nikki/Victor.

Growing up, watching the show during school vacations, I remember Paul and Christine. I don’t watch very often anymore, besides at home while at lunch. But, I always liked Paul and Christine.

Nikki will be drunk and go to Paul and they will have drunk sex..
And her new drinking friend Maureen/ Meredith Baxter, will know she slept with Paul and she will blackmail Nikki for her silence..

Been there done that story ..

My theory on this whole situation is, no one will come out a winner. Paul is not thinking logically at the moment. That maybe due to the fact that people tend to make rash decisions and become impulsive during moments of sudden excitement or unexpected news that can affect them emotionally. Paul has to sit back and decide whether losing Christine, a woman he married twice and invest a lot of personal and professional time with is worth the risk. Nikki is leaning on Paul but I don’t think that her motives are to get back with him. I think Paul will be heartbroken again because he misunderstood the relationship between him and Nikki. Victor will not let Paul steal his wife from him. So that’s another barrier that will be in Paul’s way. Christine may view her relationship status with Paul from a different angle after all is said and done. She maybe the one to question her marriage and wonder if Paul truly loves her, or will he drop her for Nikki if he has the chance? Or will Paul finally realize that getting with his baby mama who is already married is just pure lust and not love? I agree with another person’s comment. People don’t have to share kids to be happy. Paul and Christine don’t share a child, however, they relationship should still be valued.

Nikki and Paul were 16 and 17 when they were “lovers.” They’re so good at being good friends now, why ruin the formula just because Nikki had gotten preggers ages ago and it turns out that JFP’s golden boy (that no one seems to really give a hoot about, anyway) is their biological son? Dullun was raised by two loving parents his entire life that he loved, and if Nikki hadn’t read a letter from Katherine telling her that it was her responsibility to make sure her biological child knew about their medical history (seriously?!?), this whole thing would never have come about anyway.

Besides, why would Nikki want to be with a guy who gave her an STD? That’s what Paul did all those years ago, anyway, you know, not Nikki giving one to him as Doug Davidson has a tendency to say! Check the history of the show, folks … Nikki was the recipient, poor girl!

As for who Paul should stay with, Nikki or Christine … heck, I always thought he had more passion with Isabella. Let HER come home! Might spice things UP for a change!
wolfy

This whole topic is why 18 to 34 year old women are tuning out Y&R in droves. No one cares about this silly storyline about 55+ year old characters. How many times can you see the same thing over and over again? Wash, rinse, repeat is the Y&R theme. Enough.

Wait, wait, and wait Larry, this is so not true. Age has nothing to do with why that demographic is tuning out. They are tuning out of Y&R and GH because of the poorly written storylines.
When I was a latch key kid I became hooked on All my Children. No, not because of Erica and he affairs with all of the men of Pine Valley under forty or Jenny and Greg or Nina and Cliff or Tad and Hilary, or even Angie and Jessie. Yes, I loved all those characters and watched their storylines avidly, but it was the over fifty set who fascinated me the most. Yes, I mean Phoebe, Charles, Mona, Myrtle, Palmer and Langley. I was ten when I became riveted by Grandmother Phoebe referring to Mona as that “Kane woman” as she schemed against her grandson Chuck’s significant others so she could have him all to herself.
She would sputter out “that Donna Beck person!” and I swear her spittle landed on her highball glass as she tossed back her head and cackled with malicious glee. I recall the sound of the ice clinking in that high ball class merging with the sound of Little Charlie jumping in the Tyler swimming pool. It was the merger of the senses which produced an almost John Cheever sense of story.
This is not about age, it’s about the writing. The Y&R writers have been handed a golden chance with Jill and Colin but they are not seizing the opportunity.
In the meantime, the very somnolent and dull Summer is being given ample air time with her new and even more boring husband. What is his name again? Biff? Are they young and beautiful? Yes. Are they riveting and compelling? No. And as Shakespeare once said, “Summer hath all too long a date.” Wait, that is not quite what he said but you catch my drift.
It’s the writing, Stupid. (not calling you, Stupid, just using a figure of speech).

Your John Cheever reference really makes me yearn for the soaps in their heyday. They were truly a thing of beauty. Why won’t someone do “classic” soapTV like they have with MeTV and the other classic channels featuring shows from the 60’s, 70’s & 80’s?

One of the best soap love stories ever told was Mac & Rachel on AW portrayed by the wonderful Victoria Wyndham & the late great Douglass Watson! If you had that great story telling by great actors you would still have people watching the soaps! I miss those days and you will never return again because you have hair models and lousy writers doing the soaps.

harry, harry, harry. ….inasmuch as I agree with you just a bit, ’cause I like you….Larry is right. IMO. Those were different times. No such thing as a latch key kid anymore. It is illegal. I presume TV was the only passtime a kid had back then, or go outside and play stickball….and the girls play with their Barbies. There are too many distractions now…too many “toys”, such as iTouch and iPods and iPads etc. I am sure those were innocent, wonderful days which will sadly never be recaptured.
I am between 18-35, and I can tell you that I find this new Nikki storyline uninteresting and boring. Who cares? It is water under the bridge. I would like to see some images of a youthful , sun-drenched Nikki with flowers in her long, blond hair wearing a loose, gauzy maxi, peasant dress dancing in a meadow. And, lo and behold, there stands a similarly long-haired Paul waiting with outstretched, welcoming arms. Take us back, writers.
As it is, I am sick of all this airtime wasted on Nikki. Let’s give those just standing in the sidelines a juicy storyline….such as Kevin. What a waste! And, Neil? Please writers, have him wake up from this horrid dream (named Hillary (sp) ) he is having already!.

K/kay–yes, Mac and Rachel were interesting and compelling and I was quite young when I watched them as I am sure you were.
Mac. Rachel, Phoebe Tyler….these characters captured our imaginations and triggered some sense of recognition, and they were all over forty. And yes, MBMOm, I don’t see why this type of writing is out of our sphere of reality.

Loved this Harry…so well said…i never had a problem with ages of characters…ive watched soaps for 50 years…since i was 4 and young or old i enjoyed all the soap characters…back in the 60s i enjoyed Ruth Warrick as Hannah Cord on Peyton Place just as much as i enjoyed young Barbara Parkins as Betty Anderson and i was just a kid…as a teenager in the 70s i liked widower Jim Mathews who was dating Cory housekeeper Beatrice Gordon…Mac and Rachel another favorite just as much as i enjoyed the younger cast…and those young and older you meantioned on AMC too…i currently watch Britians Coronation Street which had featured a love triangle with characters in their late 70s and it was very well done…this is a multigenerational serial about working class people and their loves and everyday lives with characters young and old and the children are written like real children…clever, well written character driven storylines about everday people we can all identify with…your right Harry its all about the writing…Coronation Street is far superior than our four soaps combined…catch some episodes on youtube if you can…they have episodes from the very first one…however, British soaps and in other countries are on a decline like ours(so even better writing might not save ours but i still wish they all were better written regardless,)…the next generation do not want to make the commitment like we have and they have other outlets to entertain themselves…twitter, facebook, streaming and videos…i miss the 60s, 70s, and most of the 80s when soaps where at their best…writing and ratingswise…when they were the most talked about form of entertainment…but im glad i got to see it!!!

I’ve always loved Paul and Chris and I hope they’ll stay together and have a baby girl: Katherine Mary Williams. Nikki broke Paul’s heart five years ago. Let’s hope she won’t do it again. I would like her to stay away from Paul and Chris.

The best thing in that story are the scenes that Paul and Dylan shared. I would like writers to focus on the father/son relationship. At first, it was Nikki’s story. Now, it should become Paul and Dylan’s. Do the right thing, please writers.

Victor will always be the one Nikki ends up with and I would really rather not see Paul hurt by her. And until a few months ago, Paul and Nikki didn’t share the bond of a child, so that point doesn’t hold much weight in the argument that it drives Paul and Nikki closer. It’s not like they raised Dylan together, from infancy to now – that would be totally different. But as far as Paul was concerned, he had no connection to Dylan until recently.

However, I don’t know if Paul and Chris should stay together… I always liked Nina and Paul better, as well as Christine and Danny. I think those two pairings should be the end game. Recently though, it’s hard to see Chris have chemistry with anyone, especially romantically, not because of Lauralee Bell, but because of the writing. Ever since her return during Phyllis’ hit-and-run story in 2012, Chris has been written as bitchy, bitter and angry for one reason or another. She always seems to be the bad guy in every situation, and that’s not how she always was. I really don’t like the writing for her character right now.

Paul should stay with his wife.

My Lord, Nikki as a drunk, AGAIN?! Y&R is like “Groundhog Day”,different day, same shit.

Her having lesbian sex with her drinking partner will be something new!

@4everdays would you for the sake of common decency stop with the lesbian/gay story crap! No offense but there are still a few of us out here who don’t want to hear it.

NO NO NO NO NO!!!!! Are you kidding me?!?!? OK, let me see…Christine or Nikki??? Well…NEITHER!!!!! That BLAND AND PRISSY-FILLED Christine works my nerves TOO DAMN MUCH!!!!! And, as for Nikki…I’m sorry but Nikki blew her chance with Paul ALL TO HELL when she wimped out (or whatever) and went crawling back to that ill-tempered and crotchety-filled Victor for, like, the ZILLIONTH TIME (GAG GAG GAG AND MORE GAG!!!!!)!!!!! Idea: How about Nina (obvious and WAY MORE SENSIBLE choice…D-U-H!!!!!) or that FIRECRACKER/SPITFIRE Isabella (thanks, wolfsmistress. LOVE YA!!!!!)??? If not Nina and if not Isabella…THEN WHO CARES?!?!? As for Christine or Nikki…N-O!!!!! Anyway, moving on…

What’s this rubbish about Paul and Nikki being BFFs? Paul’s best friend is Lauren Fenmore.

Yes!!!!

Seriously? Another sob storyline for Nikki?…or Nikki’s continuous, neverending storyline? No disrespect intended, but please, writers put Nikki out of her misery…Wah, Wah, Wah, but most of all, put us….the many fans of Y&R out of HER misery. When something on TV moves me, I cry…a lot. I am a very emotional person, but I feel no compassion for Nikki. ….because there is none to be had, people.

Why all this baby talk now for Christine? Y&R and B&B sure like to have their middle-agers — Brooke, Victoria, Sally Spectra — engaged in late-in-life pregnancy story lines. i would rather see these couples deal with more weighty issues more appropriate to their ages, stations in life, and our world.

Christine and Nikki as rivals for Paul seems odd. For so much time, Christine was not even in Nikki’s age and social circle. Isn’t she more a peer of Victoria, thanks to the magic SORAS lunch Miguel prepared for Victoria one day on the ranch?

Stop playing with the Victor-Nikki on-and-off switch, too. Too many laps on that old horse of a tale. Keep them together and let them discover their strength as parents and grandparents. I am weary of seeing these two act as they did 10-20-30 years ago! And Nikki’s continued victim games are tiring. She should be a grande dame of Genoa City not living life like a silly schoolgirl. Why don’t these characters learn anything? Serials are like cars for me… stories need to move forward.

Paul was best with Nina. Nina is a character that could be so vital as Nina sees Genoa City differently than anyone else for she was an outsider. with Katherine gone, Nina could be a solid support presence here. The actress and character are underused.
