NATAS Chairman Malachy Wienges: "We Are So Thrilled To Be Sharing The 41st Annual Daytime Emmy Awards With A Global Audience In Such An Innovative & Contemporary Fashion!”

This week soap fans learned that for the first time since 1984, NATAS does not have a televised home for the gold-fest of the upcoming 41st Annual Daytime Emmy Awards!  However, there is always a plan B!

So, for the first time the ceremonies which On-Air On-Soaps previously announced will be streamed live online beginning at 5PMPST/8PMEST emanating live from the Beverly Hilton Hotel on Sunday night, June 22nd.

NATAS chairman Malachy Wienges offered this statement, alluding to the fact that with the show available by live-stream, fans from around the world can converge and watch the ceremonies live for the first time everywhere: “We are so thrilled to be sharing 41st Annual Daytime Emmy Awards with a global audience in such an innovative and contemporary fashion. We are confident that the expert team we’ve brought on will flawlessly execute an evening that celebrates the outstanding talent being honored and allows fans to be a part of the action.”

With the event being streamed live for the first time in the history of the broadcast; Wienges has brought in Spike Jones, Jr and SJ2 Entertainment who will be producing the live show at the Beverly Hilton with Terry D. Peterson, Owner, Artistic Director, Verite Productions, Inc.  Paul Colichman and HERE Media will handle all aspects of social media for the event.  The Daytime Emmys will be made available as previously reported via live-stream by going to www.daytimeemmys.net

So, what do you think of the concept of the live-stream?  It certainly gives the show added flexibility in some respects than a televised broadcast, and it has a farther reach around the world.   Share your thoughts below!

Well anything has to be better than last year’s poorly produced show— my hope is they will make the ceremony dignified and respectful — let it truly be an evening for honoring outstanding work whether on soaps, talk, games shows and children’s programming — leave the amateur variety acts and lame comedy writing at the door, and just show clips and announced who the Emmy goes to— simple and to the point.

Amen! I also hope they leave all the production numbers back at HSN and stick to the important stuff…like the awards!

I don’t quite get the “fans from around the world can converge and watch the ceremonies live for the first time everywhere” comment. I honestly don’t believe there are millions (much less thousands) of fans “around the world” who give a rat’s ass about our awards shows, so that whole thing is crap.

And what about the devoted senior citizen fans who probably don’t have a computer and, more to the point, wouldn’t know how to access the show online? Streaming the show isn’t going to be any use to them! (I’m speaking for my mother here!)

I think it’s disgusting that none of the networks or major cable channels would bother to televise this show. And it’s not just about the soaps…it’s also for talk shows, cooking shows, children’s shows, daytime news shows…the fuckin’ networks are snubbing them all!

I agree! I am a longgggg time OLTL fan and I don’t give a rat’s ass or any other rat parts about the emmys. They are a huge joke, a sham, farce. Only 4 soaps? Who’s nominated, everyone. It mattered when there were 12, but now there’s only 4 awful ones, so what is there to “win”. And talk shows. These hosts aren’t qualified to be on a show, let along host one. Let’s see, married to the boss, took all her clothes off, washed up comic, just to start. Then there are the same 3 game shows there have been for 100 years. So what’s to watch?

Sharon Case looks dynamite in everything

When will the Daytime Emmys start streaming on the east coast, Michael?

I’m not Michael, but I do know it starts at 8:00 pm on the east coast. The article says so.

@Chris at 8 pm East Coast time which will be 5 pm Pacific Coast time.

Regardless who watches or not im grateful there is a home for the emmys…our soaps need the publicity no matter where it comes from!

The Daytime Emmy streamed live online from the Beverly Hilton Hotel to ‘global’ audience ..
I’m sure that people around the world would want to watch the American Price is Right, the Chew, 4 soaps etc etc get awards LOL ..
I doubt those shows are even shown around the world and if they were that someone in Geremy watches them or even would have an interest in the American Daytime Emmy stream..
The Y&R and B&B most likely are the only ones shown internationally..

Many here in USA are not going to watch so hopefully the people in India will LOL ..

I wish this years Emmies well and hope all have fun !!

@su0000 LMAO since GEREMY isn’t a country located on any world map…maybe they will be watching. You jump to the fore of the onslaught so quickly you need to enable SPELLCHECK!!! IJS.

davlestev1,
LOL you got me!!! 🙂

Maybe this way we won’t have any suits interfering and sticking their two cents worth in. We could actually watch an entertaining show Lets have it be daytime emmys daytime actors .They can walk and talk at the same time. No more nighttime actors hosting. I don’t watch the primetime Emmys or Oscars. The Toni’s put on a great show.

The very foundation of daytime TV is the soaps! The Emmys need to lather up nicely!! More soaps, less Sesame Street!!! More soaps, less games!!!! More Soaps, less “The Talk”!!!!! More soaps, less food!!!!!!! All the other stuff can be thrown into Oscar’s trash can!!!!!!!!!!!!!

@4everDAYS…4SHAME..4SHAME…How dare you impugn SESAME STREET!!! OH THE INHUMANITY….Game shows, talk shows and the like…I agree…LOL…Oscar’s trash can…you should be so ashamed sir/ma’am

Today’s lesson is brought to you by the letter s, as in…Sesame Street…serial/soap opera and finally…sir. I was never Knighted, though. lol

It sucks its not on TV but that is just the way its going to be now..At the same time is great they are getting publicity and that is a positive.

5:00 pm pacific
6:00 pm mountain
7:00 pm central (that’s me!)
8:00 pm eastern

Going from a traditional broadcast network to a cable channel to, now none of them wanting to show the Daytime Emmys, streaming on the internet. This definitely is downward trend for this show, a clear reminder of the decline of the daytime serial.

This year, the show is at the Beverly Hilton Hotel. With the present trend for this show, next year, maybe they’ll hold the event behind a trash dumpster at the Red Roof Inn in Compton!! No need to worry about broadcasting it on a network or streaming on the internet. They can just get Kim Zimmer and Colleen Zenk to handout flyers at intersections to invite everyone to the grand event! This would save them the hassle of putting out “thrilling” press releases like this one and would give the unemployed (but talented) Zimmer and Zenk a few dollars that they may likely need!!

Honestly, doesn’t this organization have any dignity? They need to ditch trying to have a grand affair at night for this event. They’re trying to keep it on par with the Emmys and the Oscars and, with each further decline, it is more and more apparent that it isn’t. They should scale this down drastically and make it a classy but somewhat simple lunch event — no red carpet, no overblown song and dance numbers. Just a simple awards show. With all of the broadcast channels available to broadcast this event, it is embarassing that NONE of them are televising it. It is a clear statement about the current state of serials.

It is very sad.

LOL! The first two paragraphs had me laughing so hard that I had to reread them a few times! Thank you for the laughs!!!

And the following year, they can use carrier/homing pigeons! I’m still laughing!!!

I really hope that viewership is high and that the international community support the Daytime Emmy’s. But this has been a long time coming, just look at the Daytime Emmy’s from the last 5 years. They are a total flop, and those were on TV. I am hoping Live Streaming on the internet will do the Daytime Emmy’s justice this year.

Michael Fairman: Do you know if the show will be geo-coded for the US only. Quite a few of the online shows are not available in Canada. If you know the answer, I’d really appreciate a reply. Thanks !

You can watch;

”NATAS chairman Malachy Wienges offered this statement, alluding to the fact that with the show available by live-stream, fans from around the world can converge and watch the ceremonies live for the first time everywhere: “We are so thrilled to be sharing 41st Annual Daytime Emmy Awards with a global audience” ..

That’s only Hulu as far as I know. I am in Canada and the only things I can’t view are on Hulu.

No, it is a live stream.. nothing to with HuuLu..
A live stream is live and coming to you through the internet in real time ..:)

It also says ”global” that means all will be able to view world wide..

Go to; live-stream by going to http://www.daytimeemmys.net

You can watch the emmies live via your Smart TV, PC or device..

This article/announcement is NOT that confusing. 5pm eastern/ 8pm pacific. It’s a live stream for anyone anywhere so they’ll make sure everyone who wants to see it can no matter what part of the world they’re in.

The only confusing side to this whole thing is why they decided to stream the Daytime Emmy Awards from the lobby of the Beverly Hilton Hotel while people are checking in…oh wait…are you sure??? …My sources tell me they HAVE secured a room of sort…THANK GOODNESS FOR THAT!!

So will it be available to view at a later time on the interne? As I won’t be home since I can’t TiVo it will I be able to watch it later (if I decide too) not sure I care to watch it now but in case I do was just wondering?
Do you possibly know?

I wasn’t gonna watch anyway after the way they snubbed GH, now I have even more reason not to watch. I’ve had a bad experience on the few occasions when I’ve tried to watch something streaming live on the net.

It’s a shame to see how far the Emmys have fallen. I used to love watching them back in the day when they were huge must see events, like when Susan Lucci won her first Emmy, or the way the crowd used to roar every time GH would win for best show. This feels like something slapped together at the last minute.

I wish the actors from GH well, but I won’t be watching.

Wow, yet another nail in the coffin for daytime soaps.

We now have all three networks that do not think that the Daytime Emmmy’s are worthy of a television broadcast.

Very sad indeed.

Live stream is great for the young people who will want to watch it…but how about for senior citizens who have watched soaps since they first started and DO NOT own a computer to watch it live stream?
It is quite sad that that the older generation look forward to there daily soap fix everyday and more so to the one year they can watch the soap Emmy…Guess some people must lose out and sadly its the soaps biggest fans.

Can someone answer Tom please??? Will ee see the show in Canada??

Ghlover-
Yes..

It will be a live stream and coming to you through the internet in real time ..:)

How can we stream to a SmartTV?

How do we get access to the daytimeemmys.net website? When I put it up, I am given the message no access. Or put in a name and password.

The whole streaming thing didn’t work out so well for AMC and OLTL – this is a REALLY bad idea. No one will watch.

does it mean you can watch it later? like other shows online? “live” doesn’t thrill me, but watch it whenever you want does.

Carol Burnett Talks About Being a Superfan of ‘All My Children’ on ‘Live with Kelly and Mark’

In a heartfelt reunion, of sorts, the one and only Carol Burnett appeared on Monday March 25th episode of Live with Kelly and Mark.

Burnett had first met Kelly Ripa (Hayley) and Mark Consuelos (ex-Mateo) back when they all appeared on All My Children together. Carol played Verla Grubbs first in 1983 and then again in the 90’s.

Host Kelly Ripa (ex-Hayley, AMC) noted to Burnett that “we go back a long time”. She also described Burnett’s character of Verla Grubbs, “extraordinary in every way.”

Carol’s love for All My Children is well-documented, hence legendary soap creator, Agnes Nixon, created the role of Verla for Burnett.

Speaking on how her passion for All My Children began, Carol told Kelly and Mark, “It started with my kids. They would watch at noon. I said, ‘What are you guys doing?’ I sat down and I started to watch and I got hooked!”

When Carol’s family decided to travel through Europe during one summer, the comedic legend recalled thinking, “How am I going to last if I don’t know what’s going on in Pine Valley?” She revealed she had a friend, “who sent me a telegram to the (different hotels) on Fridays to bring me up to date.”

In a hilarious moment from the segment, Carol recalled receiving a late night telegram while in Lake Cuomo when there was a knock at her hotel room door from the hotel manager who was shaking.

Carol related what it said, “Erica is still in a coma. Mark slipped again and ran away from rehab.” As Kelly and Mark broke into laughter, Burnett continued, “Chuck has learned that Donna is carrying his baby, who was once a hooker.”

Check out Carol explaining how she became an AMC Superfan below.

Malachy McCourt, ‘Ryan’s Hope’ and ‘All My Children’ Actor, Dead at 92

If you watched Ryan’s Hope through its 14-year-run, you know that Kevin the bartender became a beloved “member’ of the Ryan clan on the defunct ABC daytime drama series. The character of Kevin MacGuiness became so loved by the fans because of the actor who portrayed him, Malachy McCourt.

Sadly, according to his wife Diana McCourt to The New York Times, Malachy passed away on Monday from a heart condition and battling cancer. The actor was 92-years-old.

Playing Kevin on Ryan’s Hope was not much of a stretch for McCourt, because in his lifetime, he was the owner of 1950s Irish pub Malachy’s on Third Avenue in Manhattan. Known as one of the city’s great story-tellers, patrons from longshoremen to the actor Richard Harris would stop in and talk all things Irish with . On Ryan’s Hope, Kevin was best friends to “Ryan’s Bar” owner, Johnny Ryan (Bernie Barrow) and he tried to keep Delia (Ilene Kristen) on the straight and narrow.

In his soap opera career, McCourt also was widely-known for his role of Father Clarence McCourt on All My Children especially come Christmastime. Was Clarence, actually St. Nick? That was always the proverbial question. McCourt also appeared on the New York soaps: One Life To Live, Search For Tomorrow and Another World. Other roles included: Devil’s Own, Brewster’s Millions, The Molly Maguires, and Starman, to name

Later in 2006, Malachy ran for governor of the state of New York as a Green Party candidate. He tackled social issues of the time including being an advocate for gay and lesbian groups to march in the annual St. Patrick’s Day Parade.

McCourt’s childhood was recounted within his brother Frank McCourt’s Pulitzer Prize-winning memoir Angela’s Ashes, which detailed their mother’s attempt to raise the four of their surviving seven children in poverty in Limerick, Ireland. Later, Malachy wrote his own memoirs: 1998’s Monk Swimming, and 2000’s Singing My Him Song.

Malachy is survived by his aforementioned wife, Diana, daughter Siobhan McCourt; sons Malachy Jr., Conor and Cormac; stepdaughter Nina Galin; nine grandchildren; and one great-grandson.
