RATINGS: Days of our Lives Has Solid Week; Only Soap To Gain Viewers From Last Year At This Time!

Salem has all sorts of drama going down, and mainly from the three faces of Abigail!

As this juicy DID tale continues to turn on Days of our Lives it has put Marci Miller (Abigail), Billy Flynn (Chad), Tyler Christopher (Stefan) and a host of others from and center. Then of course, has been the heartache of Steve (Stephen Nichols) losing his eyesight and several other plots that have made DAYS solid soap viewing.

In the latest ratings for the week of April 2-6, DAYS gained 51,000 total viewers and was up +156,000 from last year at this same time.  DAYS also gained in all the key womens demos: 18-34, 18-49, 25-54.

Also in the plus column for the week was The Young and the Restless netting another +8,000 in total viewers, while adding viewers in the 18-49 and 25-54 demos.

General Hospital gained +7,000 for the ratings period in total viewers, and gained in the 18-49 and 25-54 demo, as well.   The Bold and the Beautiful was the only soap to lose total viewers for the week with -23,000.  However, the CBS Daytime soap bounced back gaining viewers in the 18-49 and 25-54 demo.

Check out the entire ratings picture courtesy of SON here.

Numbers are based on Live+Same Day ratings

(Compared to Last Week/Compared to Last Year)

Total Viewers
1. Y&R 4,419,000 (+8,000/-147,000)
2. B&B 3,552,000 (-23,000/-4,000)
3. GH 2,516,000 (+7,000/-58,000)
4. DAYS 2,253,000 (+51,000/+156,000)

Can’t understand why Days hasen’t jumped ahead of GH ..
I gotta mention;
The Sam, Jason and Spin doing their 3 Stooges act as detectives were quite stupid and Lame!..
It was not drama nor humorous, just lame dumbstuff.

I hope Sam never ever enters Drew’s space again. He deserves so much better than her.
I want drew to be a Batcholar.. playing the field and not belonging to anyone but himself.

GH has become 3 things
Boring
Stupid
Lame

( with the exception of Max/Mike, the Alzheimers story. That story is very good.
The other stories suck junk …

This news is well-deserved! I’m a new viewer who began watching Xmas Eve last year (Lani/Eli fling, JJ’s suicide). I’ve been hooked from that moment on. And what a treat it has been! Tyler Christopher’s hire as Stephan to shakeup the Dimera’s, Three Faces of Abigail, Eli/Lani/JJ, Eve and Brady’s courtship and the Jennifer/Eric pairing are my favorite stories. I can never predict what’s about to happen because the twists keep coming and coming, keeping me off-balance, which I love.

Head writer Rob Carlivati has proven time and time again that he is a major talent in the soap world. I wish everyone would give Days of Our Lives a one-week trial. No one would regret it.

Days is the best…GH does have two good stories with Mike and Nelle but of course both are tied to the Sonny and Carly show!!!

So happy to see Days’ ratings improve. The show has been really good!!!

I can’t believe Days is the lowest rated; I haven’t been bored yet! Great characters, stories, acting. Really hope it hangs in there!

On that note, I think soaps should spend some money on advertising. I know: budget. But I just wonder if they branch out to more than the soap audience with some clever ads if they can suck in “non-believers” to the wonderful world of mayhem, murder and malcontents, sprinkled with love, lust and longing with a dollop of crazy. Who could ask for anything more? !

Well, DAYS aside, I’m sad that the terrific story of Victoria and J.T. hasn’t grabbed more attention and/or viewers. The tale is disturbingly real and, sadly, constantly needs retelling. The actors, especially Amelia Heinle, have been brilliant and I’ve found myself tearing up more than once. Regarding GH, lower ratings don’t surprise me. Why would people want to see more of Sam as a Mata Hari wannabe cavorting around Switzerland, ignoring her own safety, playing high stakes espionage with the eternal dullard. This story has me in stitches every day…not the writer’s intention, I fear. Sure, Sam, who’d want a “boring” life with solid guy Drew when you can travel the globe making a complete idiot of yourself? Way to “find yourself”…what a phony! Between that and too much Sonny and Carly, it’s no mystery why ratings suffer.

Best show on daytime. Article mentions Abigail Chad Stefan and Steve, but also Kayla, Marlena, Will, Kate, and Vivian and of course Gabi. Gabi hold her own and deserves much better than Eli. I am hopeful she will find her match soon.

You look at where GH is as compared to where it was when Burton returned and there’s a story. Jason comes back and you have weeks in October, November and December at 2.7, 2.8 even 2.9 million total viewers and the demo getting to the mid 400k’s hitting 470,000 even close to 490,000 and viewership is up over the previous year.

Now Jason is basically chasing his tale, Drew is thrown from a story with him into Franco’s pain and of course we basically have the Franco saga front and center, Anna has been completely destroyed, a total rewrite of her giving birth to Faison’s spawn and that spawn now the latest new actor to take a primary role. And with all of that, where are we? 2.5 million viewers and a demo just touching 400K.

As always, Frank blows it. Ratings were in the tank, hitting record lows in the summer, he brings Burton back, focuses on vets and raises the ratings. Then he gets a reprieve, some breathing room, and goes right back to the same stuff that tanks the show over and over. back to adding newbies like Peter and just wait for Chase, and of course destroying vets like they are doing with Anna now.

And of course, his obsession with Roger and Franco. No matter how many times the ratings tank with Roger/Franco front and center, no matter how many times it is clear that GENERAL HOSPITAL fans don’t love Roger as much as Frank does, or Roger’s fans who followed him from other soaps, no matter how many times, over how many years that is proven true. Frank will never stop.

I’m hating and liking Days at the same time ; loving it because Abby and Chad are terrific with their acting . I’m totally disappointed that Chad wasn’t nominated for an award. Hating Days because I want Chad and Abby to be happy. Also, I’m anxious to know why Abby killed Andre since she was fond of him.
The other Soaps aren’t too interesting at the present ; so, Days is it.

DAYS is on fire right now! Ron is serving up the DID goodness and I am eating it up with a spoon. More please!

Y&R continues to be a mess. Devon and Hilary making a baby (YAWN!), Victor and Nikki’s open marriage (YUCK!), Jack not being John Abbott’s son (HUGE mistake), Lily running a Wisconsin based modeling agency (um, for realz?), Billy and Phyllis’ forced “comedic” relationship (news flash: no chemistry) — none of it works. But I will admit that I am intrigued by the subplot that had Victoria picking up a hairbrush from the bathroom floor the night of J.T.’s death. Who knew the Newman heiress owned a hairbrush? Will they be reunited after a decade apart? What initially tore them apart? There’s a whole lot of story there.

The All Hail Saint Sonny Hour (formerly known as GH) is pretty much unwatchable. Max Gail is giving a great performance but ultimately it is in service of propping up Sonny and showing us what a great guy he is for being there for his father. No thanks — not buying that bill of goods.

B&B continues to be the show I can’t invest in. The characters never seem to grow or evolve and the same plots are used over and over and over. And again I ask: whatever happened to those teenagers who were involved in the twenty minute “Don’t Text and Drive” story from last summer?

You, sir, are HILARIOUS! I stopped watching Y&R during the JT/Victoria debacle. Also, remember that both Lily and Sharon are successful WI former models! Don’t sleep! They’re still trying to force Philly. No, they have no chemistry. They are more like brother/sister. It’s infinitely better than Phyllis going for Nick again. Anyway…who knew Vicki had a hairbrush? Where were the scissors, because they are desperately needed!

I cannot get into GH at all. It just doesn’t pop. I have watched a few episodes here and there, but the cast is just too large, and I just don’t get it. Are there 50 cast members or more?

B&B is slightly better than Y&R — slightly. The conversations are too drawn out and it’s only a 30-minute soap. The whole Who Shot Bill yarn was anticlimactic, to say the least.

days and young and the restless!!!!!!!!!!!

Thanks Ron C- for saving my all time favorite show! Hands down, he is the best writer in the industry. He saved GH from near death, and is now doing the same for Salem. I really love the Abigail storyline.it brings out the best in Marci Miller.

Honestly, I am enjoying DAYS more than any other soap at this juncture. However, it remains in 4th place. Also, during last week ratings release they lost more viewers then they gain the recent ratings release period. So, are they really gaining?

GH is TWO million rating points behind Y&R. WOW, how do you ever catch them? You dont. Y&R is committed to the soap business, GH is not! #2. The show runner on Y&R is on his way to bigger and better things. GH has a guy that is running GH into the ground! Frank craps on the shows history and its legendary characters. Frank brings in his own peeps that WE care nothing about!

Silas
Finn
Nathan
Chase
Jordan
Amy
Nina

Peter
Andre
Oscar
Franco [Sorry Roger]
MORGAN!

Can ANYONE argue that ANY of these characters are relevant?

Notice I give passes to Ava, Nelle, Jim, Kim, Brad and Hayden. These characters are talented and relevant and you do have to introduce new characters at some point.

*AND, I like the actor who plays Griffin BUT his character is all wrong. He should have been the new Patrick Drake.

We the fans want OUR classic nucleus of characters that we love and have followed for years.

Bobbi
Monica
Mac
Felicia
Frisco
Scott
Ned
Lois [Delete Olivia!]
Brooklynn
Jimmy Lee
Celia
Recast Dillon
Jacob Young as Lucky
Julie Berman as Lullu
Laura
Luke and Tracy as guest stars

THATS GH

Yep! When will they ever learn that GH fans want GH. I like new character, as long as they’re tied to current characters or the history of the show.

Jacob Young was not good as Lucky at all. Now that Nashville is done, there’s no reason to settle for any Lucky other than the original, if they can get Jonathan Jackson back.

Definitely agree that Julie Berman was the better Lulu though. I’ve seen her show up on prime time now and then (one of the many medical shows, forget which one it was) but she never became a fulltime cast member.

And isn’t the original Lois on one of the CBS soaps? They tried a recast of that character once, and it didn’t work at all.

Just to add to your list of long lost vets though… I’d like to see Jeff Webber come back.. but only if Richard Dean Anderson wants to do it. Elizabeth needs her father to talk some sense into her about Frodd. I can’t believe he would want her near any psycho, let alone Heather’s kid! He also could tell us all who Liz’s mother is, since they have never even bothered to address that question.

^^^^ THIS!!! But please add Robert and Anna to your list of classic characters we want to see!

DAYS is bringing the most drama these days and should hold steady, however, GH will continue to add viewers with The Nurses Ball on the horizon. The same can be said for Y& R. B&B will probably hold steady as well.

I don’t know why B&B is so high….because they just recycle the same story over and over….it’s about to be a whole year of the Liam, Steffy, Hope show….so sick of this triangle! Can they not write anything else??!! Steffy, there has got to be another man in Los Angeles that you can find interesting. Liam is a loser and I get sick of him going back and forth between the two of them. I know Steffy was horrible for sleeping with Bill, and I saw that coming a mile away….but I can’t help but think about the way Liam was looking into Sally’s eyes before all this stuff happened. He was definitely about to waffle between Steffy and Sally….He needs to be alone!
