RATINGS: General Hospital and The Young and the Restless Have Strong Week!

The ratings are in for the week of March 25th – March 29th, which was a key week for two daytime soap operas. This, it was reflected in the total viewers tuning into see what is going to happen on General Hospital as it has its lead-in week to it’s 50th anniversary episodes and The Nurses’ Ball, and The Young and the Restless which on March 26th celebrated its 40th anniversary. In addition, one fantastic overall note to the stats in this rating period, all four network soap operas are up in viewers significantly from this time last year in 2012!

Breaking this down, General Hospital added a astounding +303,000 viewers for the ratings period! We think the number may be even higher when the next rating period numbers come to light! GH came in third among the network soaps with total viewers at 2,754,000, but the lone ABC soap is up 449,000 viewers from the previous date last year! With all the returns, blasts from the pasts, and the events leading up to The Nurses’ Ball, and Luke and Laura’s battles with Helena Cassadine, GH fans had a lot of story to keep up to date on!
Over at The Young and the Restless, as Nikki and Victor celebrating their “I do’s”, Adam was shot and then there was that bomb! Those episodes and the aftermath gave Y&R, which ushered in its 40th years during the ratings week, 4,755,000 viewers. That is gain of +44,000 for the ratings week, but an amazing +631,000 total since the same time last year. The show continues to have its stronghold as the number one soap. Does this mean that the regime of Phelps and Griffith are bringing it to Y&R?
While The Bold and the Beautiful and Days of our Lives both lost viewers for the ratings week, B&B -99,000 and DAYS -56,000, they are still well ahead of their numbers from last year at this time. DAYS Alum Tanner Stine to Appear in ‘Monsters: The Lyle and Erik Menendez Story’ Starring Nicholas Chavez
Another face familiar to daytime fans has already boarded Ryan Murphy’s limited series, Monsters: The Lyle and Erik Menendez Story which stars General Hospital favorite, Nicholas Chavez (Spencer Cassadine) in the role of Lyle.
Tanner Stine who played Kayla (Mary Beth Evans) and Steve’s (Stephen Nichols) son, Joey Johnson on Days of our Lives will also appear in the series.
In ‘Monsters’, look for Stine to portray the role of Perry Berman, who was Lyle and Erik’s friend and former tennis coach. In the story, Perry found himself at the epicenter of the murder mystery when he had accepted a phone call from Lyle shortly before the brutal murders of Jose and Kitty Menendez.

Other previously announced castings included: Cooper Koch (who plays Erik), Javier Bardem and Chloë Sevigny as parents Jose and Kitty Menendez, Nathan Lane as Dominick Dunne, Ari Graynor as Leslie Abramson, and Leslie Grossman as Judalon Smyth.

In the series, the two wealthy brothers stand trial for shooting their parents in Beverly Hills, amid claims of self-defense after years of abuse, while prosecutors alleged that greed was the motives for the killing. Lyle and Erik Menendez have been behind bars in California for more than three decades for the 1989 killing of their parents.
Monsters: The Lyle and Erik Menendez Story will debut later in 2024 on Netflix.

51st Annual Daytime Emmy Nominations Set to Be Announced
The National Academy of Television Arts and Sciences revealed on Wednesday via X, that this year’s 51st annual Daytime Emmy Nominations are set to be announced in full on Friday, April 19th at 12 pm ET/9 am PT.
However, four of the top award category nominations will be revealed on Thursday, April 18th across four entertainment news programs to kick things off.
Those include this Thursday episodes of Access Hollywood, E! News, Entertainment Tonight and Extra. Over the past few years, NATAS has often let the syndicated entertainment news program handle the duties of revealing the top actor and actress in a daytime drama series, but we shall see which categories the shows unveil this year.

As previously announced, the 51st annual Daytime Emmy Awards will be presented in ceremonies on Friday night, June 7th on CBS (8 – 10 PM, ET/delayed PT) on the CBS Television Network, and available to stream live and on-demand on Paramount+*.
The awards will be back at The Bonaventure hotel in downtown Los Angeles, where (the delayed due to the actors and writers strike) 50th annual Daytime Emmy Awards were held back in December of 2023.

The Daytime Emmy Awards have recognized outstanding achievement in television programming and crafts since 1974, honoring work in a variety of categories, including daytime dramas, talk shows, instructional programming, hosting, culinary, and legal/courtroom programs. In 2021, NATAS and the Television Academy jointly announced plans to realign the Daytime and Primetime Emmy Awards to be organized by content genre, as opposed to program airtime.
The 51st Daytime Emmy Nominations will honor the work and achievement from the calendar year of 2023.

Days of our Lives wins WGA Award for Daytime Drama Series
Sunday night, April 14th in concurrent ceremonies in Los Angeles and New York City, the Writers Guild of America is handing out their 76th annual WGA Awards in the fields of motion picture, television, news media, and radio/audio.
In the Daytime Drama category, Peacock’s Days of our Lives was the winner, taking home its fourth WGA Award in this category in a row.
The DAYS winning writing team consisted of Head Writer Ron Carlivati Creative Consultant Ryan Quan and Writers Sonja Alar, Jazmen Darnell Brown, Joanna Cohen, Carolyn Culliton, Richard Culliton, Cheryl Davis, Kirk Doering, Christopher Dunn, Jamey Giddens, David Kreizman, Henry Newman, Dave Ryan, and Katherine D. Schock.

The team from Days of our Lives bested the only other team in the category from General Hospital, which consisted of former GH head writers: Dan O’Connor, Chris Van Etten Writers Ashley Cook, Emily Culliton, Suzanne Flynn, Charlotte Gibson, Lucky Gold, Kate Hall, Elizabeth Korte, Shannon Peace, Stacey Pulwer, Dave Rupel, Lisa Seidman, and Scott Sickles.

As previously reported, a show spokesperson for Days of our Lives shared that the episodes submitted for the competition were #14663, #14678 & #14679, and mostly centered around the death, and the funeral of Victor Kiriakis played by the late John Aniston.
This week, DAYS head scribe, Ron Carlivati, confirmed that, and told Michael Fairman TV on the decision of the scripts the team submitted: “I like to have some humor, but it was also the funeral, and then there was Sarah (Linsey Godfrey) giving birth, and then Vivian’s (Louise Sorel) crashing the reading of the will.”

Keep it going Y&R….You’re on a roll!!!!!
It’s so nice to see fans of other shows supporting the industry as a whole. It blows my mind that more people watch Y&R than GH, even though I love both. I’m hopeful for Y&R to recover and flourish, just as GH has done in recent months. And I’m even more hopeful that Prospect Park has two runaway hits with my favorite, ONE LIFE TO LIVE, and its sister soap opera, ALL MY CHILDREN. May they all succeed like gangbusters (whatever that’s supposed to mean!).
One Life To Live is my favorite soap also!
I’m so enjoying all the returns to GH. Love the pairing of Liz and A.J., Ellie and Spin, of course Patrick and Sabrina!! I also enjoy the other two soaps Y&R (I love
S.B. is back) and a little dissappointed in B&B Brooke/Hope and Caroline what pathetic women and now Bill also. Love Steffy and Liam (even tho Liam is and idiot) also loving Maya and Rick and I never liked Rick before. Hope Brooke’s Bedroom fails and Thomas gets his chance. Let Taylor enjoy some happiness with Eric. Looking fwd to the renewed OLTL coming and will give AMC a try also.
If Robin ever comes back, I prefer Patrick with her than Sabrina! She is sweet & all
but it isn’t the same. Robin , Patrick, & Emma are a family.
if/when Robin comes back…. doubt she’ll be the same either! ;-(
Jill Farren Phelps and Josh Griffith are doing an EXCELLENT job of re-invigorating “Y & R” and cleaning up the mess that Maria Arena Bell made during her tenure! Despite all the trashing I have read since JFP took over as the EP of “Y & R”, I think she has done a commendable job of working with the debacle MAB left!! Josh Griffith is an Emmy-award winning scribe and I have enjoyed everything I have seen since he took over the Head Writer reins!!

GH IS THE BOMB. I wonder how many of us watch GH and are not accounted for in the ratings? What gives? someone please explain how us long time viewers can get counted for watching our beloved GH? Everything is working for me on GH love that they are spreading out the air time and giving us a variety of cast. I dont care how many days a week each appear, just so we can see the variety of cast members. I love this new concept I see daily…..
WEll, Y&R (and BB) is shown in 32 countries and GH is USA and Canada ..
So Y&R’s ratings include all countries, not just North America? I didn’t realize that. GH is on fire and has been for about a year or so. GREAT job to all involved! I also watch Y&R and I find myself fast forwarding through most of B&B. Nothing compares to GH IMHO. 😉

I really hope the ptb over at NBC are paying attention and do something to revive Days soon. They have great characters and wonderful actors to portray them, all they need is a story- the writing at Days is at all time low– even Kristen is becoming boring due to lack of direction in the writing department. I am really rooting for Days to get better– if it happened with GH and Y&R, it is not too late for this show to make a come back.
As for B&B– that show too needs a new head writer– I think poor Brad Bell has just run out of ideas– it is getting to the point he might be just using old scripts to write new ones. If ever a show needed a head to toe shake up it is this one. At this point I would be willingly to give his sister in law MAB a crack at this show– it might be horrible, but at least it will be something different- this show’s look, writing and characters are stuck in a time warp that left them in the 90’s. I still try to watch but most of the time I end up changing the channel. I love soaps, but it comes a point it becomes too painful to watch this once great soap become a cartoon version of what it once was.
I couldn’t agree with you more about Days. It’s extremely painfully boringggg!!! No direction whatsoever! great characters. Great actors and crappy writing makes for a poor soap. blah..
Britt Pregnant! No Robin, ok! Frisco leaving, no suprise here! Noah does have an uncanny resembalance to Rick Springfield, lol! Richard Simmons out of the closet…why im not suprised, lol! He should have disguised as a waiter and served Lucy roast duck, lol! Why Lucy upset Richards lyrics might upset Monica, then didnt seem to care what Mac and his dummy said about Frisco? Magic Milos dance company needed a little more dance practice, and some, not Felix…lol…could use a little time in the tanning booth! And where is that dang boat heading for Luke and Laura? But we get two reasons to celebrate: the return of the nurses ball, and BIG ratings for GH!

Here’s an outrageous plot twist: Britchs carrying Dante and Lulu’s surrogate baby to pass it off as Patrick and Britch just got lucky that Maxi got pregnant by Spinneli or when Maxi showed up at the hospital after her doggie encounter a clever Britch managed to get a hold of Spins donor supply and she used that to make certain Maxi was pregnant! And since Olivia has seen a dog at the hospital it could represent Britch!
DOOL is terribly boring now. EJami are gross and Dannifer, while good, are on way too much with a shit storyline to boot! I will not be tuning in. Glad to see the other soaps doing well!
I can’t stand Chloe. I can’t stand Jennifer being such a wuss either and Daniel looks constipated most the time! I HATE this storyline so much!!! It’s worse than the Nicole/Jen/Daniel crap – far worse. Make it end. Days is horrible right now.
I love GH! I am so glad that they broke up Patrick and Britt. I am just waiting to see what her bomb shell announcement is going to be. The nurses ball has been so much fun.
I spent almost 50 hours watching content from SoapNet when the GH marathon was on last weekend. The best time of my life. I laughed and cried. Now I’m watching classic episodes on YouTube after seeing the first episode.
Y&R is great but the Lauren storyline is a turnoff. They are wasting Steve Burton’s talent. He needs to go back to GH and just get his memory back so we can watch how he balances his old and new life.
Days of Our Lives just sucks. When you start to root for Jenn and Brady to just get their butts kicked because they are just plain stupid and trusting, you know it’s time to find something else to watch. I fast forward through their scenes.
Now as for The Bold & the Beautiful, they can just cancel it. It’s so incestuous because the cast is small. They have to fit everyone into 30 minutes. They recycle relationships. I used to relate to Brook as the under dog. I even got past the Deacon mess. But sleeping with your sister’s husband because she said she was fed up and giving him to you is just trifling. Taylor blasts Brooke for sleeping with every Forester male but she’s done the same.
Hope was with Liam first but because her daughter wanted him Taylor f felt it was okay to push the relationship instead of telling her to go find someone unattached. Eric is sex starved. They could have found a new woman no one knew. Sleeping with another one of your “son’s” ex wives again” . Since when Steffy and Thomas call him by his first name. Just last month he was grandpa.
Caroline was great when they first brought her on. Now there are just no words for her. The Bold & the Beautifu has been steadily going down hill. They should have kept As the World Turns and cancelled it.

The Dylan character is pretty good, IMO – needs more development and more interaction with GC inhabitants, but I’m giving it time as well. No problems with Steve Burton here – never saw him on GH, but he’s doing an admirable job on Y & R, IMO.
Richard Simmons was a pyschopath on GH today! He was acting like a two year old that didn’t get his way. I thought he was mean & nasty on today’s episode of Gh & locking Lucy in the dressing room. And being carried away before he ruined the Nurses
Ball…Rick Springfield rocked today on GH!! Jessie’s Girl !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Was that fall she took why B&B’s Caroline went from sweet to bitch in a blink? HATE her now and NOT in a someone you love to hate way, and also Dayzee is a freak for supporting her against Maya. Cannot wait for my soaps OLTL and AMC to return.
