RATINGS: GH, DAYS, and B&B All Gain In Viewers!

courtesy/ABC

The ratings are out for the week of July 16th -20th and it was good news for three of the four daytime soaps, that all increased their viewership.  Topping the list with the most added viewers was Days of our Lives who badly needed a boost!  The show brought in +148,000 for the ratings period, and added the most viewers for the week in the key 18-49 female demo.  On the converse, DAYS is still having record lows in the 18-49 female rating share!

Over at General Hospital, things are looking better and better thanks to the hard work of Valentini and company.   GH posted another +125,000 and is nearing being at the 2.5 million viewer mark if they continue to make strides in the coming weeks!  The show also continues to be ahead of Days of our Lives in the rating,  And from this past week’s story with the Robin bombshells, it looks like the next rating period should be stronger too!

The Bold and the Beautiful  continues to do well adding another + 75,000 viewers and even though many have complained about the constant airtime of Hope/Liam/Steffy its not driving viewers away significantly.

Finally, the show that has made all the headlines last week, The Young and the Restless, they are the only show to lose viewers once again losing another -13,000 in total viewers and the number one soap was down in viewers in the key 18-49 female demo.  So, could a changed not have happened soon enough?  Can the show get back on track with Jill Farren Phelps and Josh Griffith steering the Genoa City ship?

Ok soapers, weigh-in!  How are you liking the stories on the four soaps?  What would you change?  What would you add to lure viewers back to daytime dramas?  Let us know your thoughts?   You can view the entire ratings via Soap Opera Network here!

Eventho, some of us are angered by them taking away our precious soaps, should all watch the soap operas that are left before they take them away from us. Ratings are the key to keep them alive. Even if you don’t know the story line just turn your channel to them or record them daily. I did but I got hooked in watching BB and Y&R.

I hate that Y&R got rid of MAB…I am so scared of what JP will do to them..she hate vets!!!! If over the next few weeks they start moving away ect or getting killed off (ie Alan Q) I will be done with Y&R till MAB is back!!

GH fan,

Maria Arena Bell will NEVER return to Y&R. Also, it should be noted that Sony Pictures is not giving JFP total autonomy where Y&R is concerned. They will be keeping a very close eye on her as she unfolds her vision for Y&R.

As for Young & the Restless, first let’s get past this Christine thing and Rickie’s death, have the girl get her memory back it’s getting so old Get Christine off the show she is boring as hell. Get all that Rickie did finished, find the knife and let poor Paul go home. Let Phyllis get past all this.. she was totally a different person back then. Get Jack to walk again Get rid of Sharon too, many of us get so tired of her and she doesn’t add anything interesting to the show. Bring some NEW action to town. Oh and get rid of Chelsey’s mother she is a disgusting waste.

I’m loving GH again! You can finally see the work from FV/RC clean of all the past mess / agenda from the old regime. The show is much more balanced….and when I say balanced I do mean in part that their is much less Sonny & Jason (as they say,”Thank you Soap Jesus!”). More importantly, I LIKE most of the characters again. I was not an OLTL watcher but I am loving the transplant characters! Roger Howarth is amazing as is Michael Easton. I have become an instant fan of KDP (Blair) and hope to see much more of her in the future. It would take pages to express all the good that is now GH so I will settle with saying that Anna / FH is a dream come true character wise, I actual like Luke again which is no small feet to have been achieved, likewise I am liking Michael / CD for the first time ever and think his pairing with KA is a breath of fresh air. Speaking of a breath of fresh air, I am LOVING the JOHN & SAM pairing! MCBAM, as their fans are now calling them, have made me love watching Sam again…who knew she could smile, joke and have independent thoughts and conversations! (Not a dig at KM- more at her other pairing and they way her character was written in it) Now I can honestly say I am a fan of both Sam & Liz 🙂

My only hope is that we do see more Liz in the future. I think that RH is one of the most talented actors on the show but is way under utilized. They are doing a great job of redeeming her character but would really like to see her have her own storyline.

I think if you had to sum up the new regime’s greatest changes so far….I could do it in two words: Strong women !

I think the drop in viewers for Y and R last week is BECAUSE of the head changes, not tje rradon for them. Not all fans are celebrating Maria”s ecit. I know Im not! Adding zjosh is good, but Jill is too fire happy, if she likes u, great, if not, start looking for another acting gig!

Let’s be serious, Jill Farren Phelps almost destroyed GH and trust me I watch Y&R also and the stories are horrible. They are just going to get worse with her at the helm. Good luck Young and the Restless.

Your right about that and hopefully she will take franco with her, because she likes him so much and puts him on the y&r and he will never again show his face in Port Charles.

I have been watching GH for over 30 yrs. My 2 fav soaps are GH & OLTL. I was sad OLTL got canceled. GH writers & staff are SO talented! Keep the drama going! Love GH 4eved!!!

SAVE OUR SOAPS! Trend #SOS!!

Me thinks Todd and Blair might have something to do with that ratings spike on GH. IMO, their amazing scenes were the best of the week.

More TnB, please!

I Agree!

I’ve been enjoying GH so much again. Frank and Ron are moving the s/l’s plus not having agenda s/l hogging the screen is all good. Starting to see Jason M. coming back more he really has been a “borg” for 4 yrs. I for one am stoked about all the “returning” characters and first glimse is Robin fighting to get away from Dr Evil or should I say Ewen 😉

Love that Sony & CBS fnally gave the Hack MAB the boot. The show had become a boring and stupid mess. She never gave any fallout from big reveals. The latest one is the hit and run storyline with Phyllis & Christine from 18 years ago. MAB decided to make Christine the bad guy for wanting jutice done to the person that tried to kill her years ago while Phyllis the attempted murderer is being supported by everyone. I really hope since MAB was fired for bad ratings that the new writers and EP will fix this storyline and have Phyllis pay then back burn her for a couple of months since she was front burner for the last 3 months or so and the ratings never increased. I would also love for them to break up Sharon & Victor and try and repair the character Sharon, Could careless what they do with Victor!

GH is the bomb these days…

GH is off the charts good!

Of course the ratings are up on all the soaps. Soap opera fans have no choice but to watch the few soaps that are left. Especially since the horrible shows they replaced our soaps with. If you are a soap fan, since they canceled GL,AMC,OLTL is there any other choice except to watch these three.

Loving GH..always have! Praying their ratings keep going up and ABC/D has the sense to keep it and not cancel it. Have always watched YnR off and on…but the story lines are just horrid anymore so am drifting away from watching it.

Loving GH and DAYS right now. Sorry to see DAYS be off the air for 2 weeks. Hope this won’t cause a drop in viewers. NBC needs to have lots of promos on through this time to keep the interest alive.

I am loving GH and DAYS. I’m caught up in the Olympics… and i’ve yet to see one promo for DAYS. course, i’m not watching in the afternooons.

DAYS Fans…. DOOL is 2nd in my book – of the 4 soaps available.

Love the Fab 5! The FIERCE 5….. Lady’s Gymnastics – Team USA – GOLD!

b&b please put thomas and dayzee together they have a large fanbase

YES! A thousand procent, They are the only young adults with any sparks on B&B. Jeez, is the eye humping EPIC! I just joined their fanboard and I can’t get enough of their videos on YT. Doesn’t Brad Bell know chemistry is King for any couple?

This is great news that the ratings are up especially for my favorite soap GH! What a smart idea of Frank Valentini, Executive Producer of GH, to bring Michael Easton onto General Hospital and pair him with his former leading lady Kelly Monaco! These 2 actors have still got it! Amazing onscreen chemistry and the ability to draw viewers into the story and make them care about Sam and McBain aka McBam! They are the reason this former viewer tuned back into GH! I am also enjoying everything with crazy Heather. Robin Mattson must have a blast playing her.

I love DAYS. Go EJAMI forever.

Days was amazing. NBC needs to advertise during the break so people will continue to watch.

Loving GH again!!! Loving the OLTL characters!!! Loving the improved GH characters. LOVING LESS SONNY!!! WE NEED MORE STRONG / SMART WOMEN ON GH!! We need more families on GH. No more victims or shrinking violets!!! Let’s face it we all know Connie is the smart one!!! At least she knows Sonny is no good for women

I think Todd and Blair were amazing last week, their love for each other is incredible.
Please bring Kassie Depavia back and get TnB back together!

I love all the shows, they are great especially GH. Its great right now and has an even mixture

I’ve watched GH since it began. I love this show but I have to work so I DVR everyday and watch as soon as I get home. I love the added OLTL characters. OLTL was my 2nd favorite. I have an Aunt with a brain injury and she loves GH and I quizz her every week on it. She loves Luke and Sonny. (don’t we all) I can’t wait for Anna to find Robin and Jason to find out about his son. I LOVE TODD! I would say ditch Trey, Kristina, Kate and Ian to boost ratings. Give us more crazy Heather, Jason, Sonny, Luke, Robin and Sam. Give us more OLTL stars. Would love to see Todd and Carly hook up. I love Starr and Michael. I also started watching B&B when OLTL was cancelled. Yes, I agree too much Steffy and Liam. They need to end it with them. It’s getting boring. I’m ready to turn that off.

Been watching GH a very long time. Years. Love Jason and Sam and was so excited when they married. their story has been horrible ever since they got married. Shaking up GH is one thing but destroying a Golden couple like JaSam with contrived BS is another. John McBain does not have half the chemistry he once had with “Livvie”. Now he is just a cheating man and a dead beat dad. None of the couples on GH are rootable anymore and GH is off my screen for good,

I think it is great for the OLTL fans to have their favorites on GH. I was never a fan of OLTL so it doesn’t excite me to watch them on GH. I am not a fan of Michael and Starr, not a JM and Sam fan, and certainly not a Todd and Carly for which I am sure is next on the agenda. I realize that new characters come and go on soaps all the time, but combining OLTL and GH doesn’t work for me. I am glad though that it is working for many and the OLTL fans brought the GH ratings up.

I am glad to hear some fans are loving it. Unfortunately not everyone is. Maybe when the writing gives the GH characters something to laugh about, brings some romance in their lives, remember their true characters and not change them for HW agneda….them others will start to enjoy GH once again too.

sorry..typing too fast..”change them for HW “agenda”..”then” others will start to enjoy…..

Days Of Our Lives

Stephen Schnetzer Talks On His Return to Days of our Lives and Working with Susan Seaforth Hayes In Emotional Episodes

Who says you can’t go home again? In the case of Another World favorite, Stephen Schnetzer (ex-Cass Winthrop), he has proven that it is true, and you can go back to your soap roots and where it all started for you.

Last week on April 11th, Schnetzer, along with several other key returns were on set at Days of our Lives taping all-new episodes of the Peacock streaming soap opera, centering on the funeral of Doug Williams (the late Bill Hayes), and as part of the iconic soap opera’s 15,000th episode.

Stephen is reprising his first daytime role as Steve Olson, the brother of Julie Williams (Susan Seaforth Hayes). The last time Schnetzer appeared on a DAYS set was during his one and only run on the show from 1978 to 1980. Clearly, viewers will be in for some very emotional scenes when Steve returns to Salem to be there for his sister, Julie in her time of need. In real-life, Susan has been going through her own grief, having just lost Bill back on January 12th at the age of 98.

Photo: NBC

Michael Fairman TV caught up with Stephen during the 15K episode celebration ceremony, and during a break from taping the gut-wrenching funeral scenes, to get his thoughts on being part of these highly-anticipated moments that will air later this year in December. Here’s what he shared with us below.

What has this been like for you to work with Susan Seaforth Hayes after all of these years?

STEPHEN: She’s a dream and she’s so bright. We ran lines yesterday and we ended up just visiting for about 45 minutes and just catching up and telling tales about each other’s career. She even dropped off the autobiography that she and Bill did. And being back here at DAYS, every time I turn a corner, there’s another familiar face. When I was on the show 40 more years ago, a bunch of the guys, played softball on a team together. This is really a trip down memory lane as I knew it would be.

Photo: JPI

Taping Doug’s funeral must be a hard day for Susan. Are you checking in with her to help hold her up through this?

STEPHEN: I am and I’m checking in with Amy Shaughnessy (Susan’s assistant), and she’s holding her up more than anybody. We’re there for each other.

There will obviously be some major hankie-inducing moments when Steve comes back to Salem to console his sister.

STEPHEN: Oh, wait till you see it in December. It’s going to be great.

Were you surprised you got this call to come back to the show decades later?

STEPHEN: It was out of the blue! I was completely surprised. They should have called me decades ago! That’s what surprised me. When Another World went down, I thought I’d land somewhere else and it never happened. That was more of a surprise.

Photo: JPI

Cass is such an identifiable character for you. As well, you and Linda Dano (ex-Felicia Gallant) are so synonymous together as best friends Cass and Felicia from Another World. When fans heard you were reprising your role as Steve Olson on DAYS, they are now hoping there will be more of you on the show to come.

STEPHEN: Steven Olson is a real “Cassian “character. I cut my teeth on Steve Olson and that’s how Cass was introduced. He was kind of a roguish charmer. And then when the character stuck for Another World, they rehabilitated me, and turned me into one of the shows heroes. And that’s what would’ve happened if I stayed as Steve Olson probably. So, Steve is the ‘pre-Cass’, Cass.

Photo: JPI

As the story goes, you originally decided to leave Days of our Lives?

STEPHEN: I was never on contract. I was doing a day and a half a week and I got a Broadway play directed by Franco Zeffirelli starring Joan Plowright and Frank Finlay. I was able to it as I didn’t have to break a contract or anything. I cut loose and went back to New York for that.

How well did you get to know Bill Hayes during your first time around on DAYS?

STEPHEN: My first episode was with Bill and Susan, as her long lost brother coming into Salem. They were so good to me. They were so kind. I had been doing eight years of classical repertory theater, never been in front of a camera. I tell everybody, it took me longer than any other actor I’ve ever seen to get comfortable in front of a camera. And they were very supportive at that time in my career. Coming back to honor Bill now in 2024, and to be see Susan, I am just so happy to be here.

Looking forward to seeing the scenes between Stephen and Susan Seaforth Hayes come December and Doug’s funeral and surrounding episodes? Do you hope that DAYS might bring the character of Steve Olson back for a longer stay? Comment below.
