Days Of Our Lives

RATINGS: Terrible Week for Daytime! All Soaps Down … Again!

It was another bad week for your favorite daytime soap operas, the ratings week of March 19-March 23rd.  The biggest loss of viewers happening to the number one soap, The Young and the Restless.   Y&R lost – 272,000 viewers from the previous week.  (We thought originally it could be due to March Madness NCAA basketball’s Sweet Sixteen on March 22nd and March 23rd, but it seems Y&R aired in most markets and was not pre-empted).

But what is most troubling is the lackluster performance for Days of our Lives and General Hospital, both of whom have been on a creative upswing, with Will’s coming out story heating up Salem and the aftermath of Robin’s funeral on GH! DAYS lost another – 168,000 viewers for the week, while GH only lost – 1,000 viewers that week, it tied with DAYS at the bottom of the ratings for women 18-49 and DAYS also had a new low in total viewers in that key demo!

So what is going on here?  Are we all simply tuning out to what used to be our favorite soaps?  Are they not grabbing us? Is viewer backlash going on? Is the ratings system all skewed?

Let us know your thoughts after you check out the entire ratings via Soap Opera Network here.

because people are boycotting abc as far as gh there trying with oltl crossovers and i watch sometimes but the thing is im still pissed oltl with high ratings is gone and gh with low ratings is still on..as far as the other soaps people had enough and figure there all a thing in the past what a shame i dont even watch daytime anymore abc you lost regis oprah amc and the high rated oltl why watch now another great executive move im just not watching abc they suck wake up executives come out of your glass buldings and realize we are pissed

Until GH picks up actors like Erika Slezak, my boycott of ABC continues. I am still upset about the cancelling of AMC and OLTL. Some of us watched that show for years and some, like myself, grew up on it. This is viewer loyalty that drives the boycott of ABC. Wake up, TV execs. What kind of loyalty will build for The Chew and The Revolution? Nothing at all like what exists for our soaps!

If people really wanted to take stand, should have boycotted both Day & Night ABC TV and IT really would have taken a lose.
Since the stand wasnt taken properly its done, we can only move forward.
But I think GH is deserving of an audiance , the acting of Maurice Bernard, Steve Burton etc.is just suburb in my opinion and should be viewd.
Anyway thats my honest opinion on this terrible cancellation of OLTL

I believe Neilsen is wrong.I know alot like me are tuning in to gh now since we lost amc and oltl.I never watched gh until last week.Plus alot are watching on soapnet or online that never gets counted.I think Neilsen doesn’t like soaps.

I’ve never had Nielsen knock on my door, so to speak. I know no one whose participated in their methods to track ratings. Did anyone measure how many of us were watching the soaps in the evening on Soapnet because we work? All I heard about when OLTL and AMC were cancelled is their daytime ratings and how cheap, cheap, cheap is their focus. Well, look how the chew and the revolution are failing!

I did the Neilson deal – think it was like 1994! I had cable but nearly everything I wrote down in my tv diary was ‘tape OLTL and GH’ and later “watched taped OLTL and GH’…. every day! and some days it was ‘watched old soap operas I taped long time ago…’

and most every show I watched , not just soaps, was on ABC.

If Disney or ABC’s websites are watched for the soaps, they know. It’s people that watch them other places or if they have a digital tv tuner (i do!) then they can’t track that because no device reports back to them.

so I wonder how much their ratings dropped when they had the digital conversion? I turned my cable off in july 2008 so to save money, and hey I could get the soaps for free so never bothered to sign back up!

While I think that the writing is better on GH, it’s still not good. The new regime is still playing to the Carly, Sonny and Jason fans. I understand that they’re popular. But, if they want to GROW the audience, they need to win back viewers like me who are sick of these characters and want them gone! I wish they would all be written out of the show…but we all know that isn’t realistic. Instead, they should dramatically reduce their airtime and balance out the show with the legacy families/characters – the Scorpios, Spencers, Quartermaines and Webbers. I also think that many Robin and GH fans have given up on the show now that Robin is gone. They simply don’t want to see Patrick hooked up with a new love interest, which we all konw is coming. The way that Robin’s funeral was written was also – overall- just plain bad and disrespectful. It was all about Jason and everyone else and not about Robin or even the special relationship she had with Patrick and Emma.

Get over it. The show is fantastic. It is a show not reality.

Robin is alive. However, I totally agree. I hadn’t watched GH in YEARS…maybe since someone tried to “freeze” Port Charles!! But I started watching a few weeks ago cause my OLTL characters were coming on board. GH is just NO where near as good as OLTL was. I hate the whole “Mob” thing. It’s nauseating. Are there still real people who talk like Anthony???? Gonna “whack” somebody. Really?? OLTL was such a better soap than GH. What a horrible shame that it was cancelled while GH lives on. Y & R, while getting better lately, is no where near the Must-See-Soap it once was.

I couldn’t agree more with all your comments about OLTL. I am trying to watch GH and be supportive, but every time I watch I can’t help but think how much better OLTL was with its variety of admirable characters, family drama, humor, romance, and quirky surprises. GH is such a passe stereotype focused on the Mob and violence.

I agree with your opinion.. Too moch mob/ganster stories….Soap fans are getting tires of those kind of stories….OLTL didn’t have much of the mob stuff..OLTL soap was a bunch of characters who cared for one another…You could see that each day you watched it..Especially Viki ……That made OLTL so unique……………. I am getting tired of the whole mob thing also..That is why fans are losing interest…GH has to decrease on the stories about the mob thing…………..Or fans may continue to lose interest…Thats what I think… Decrease alot on the mob/gangster stories…Get a way from those kind of stories…Time for a change for GH & head in a different direction right a way….Or else…….

So true! This whole mob thing is getting tired! It’s the same boring story every day. They only care about the young actors. OLTL had many stories going on & they involved all ages. It was so much better & should’ve been saved!

Sharon, you hit the nail on the head! It’s still the Sonny Show. No Quartermaines have been brought back and it’s still soooo Dark. I’ve been disappointed and not surprised at the latest ratings.

Yes soap fans are getting tired of the mob/gangster stories.. They wearing themsselves thin with those kind of stories……Time for GH to change some of their stories, Especially mob/gangster stories.. Tired of that myself..

Want GH To continue..Please change your stories…

Totally agree with you….Plus the fact that I’m a huge OLTL fan, and am still totally pissed off that my show is no longer on the air. AMC, I could kinda see, because it had been bad for years, and the ratings had been on a constant decline…. OLTL outshines all of the other ABC soaps and still got the axe, so I have a hard time watching GH….was never a big fan of the show anyway. And now that the show centers around Sonny, Jason & Carly I find no reason for me to tune in. The show is so not balanced…and even when they show other characters, 9 times out of 10, those characters are spending their time talking, thinking or focusing on Sonny, Jason or Carly. The addition of the OLTL characters isn’t going to change that, as we all can see…..And the Quartermaines, Scorpios and Webbers haven’t been featured since what, the early 90’s? it’s completely ridiculous. And if we want to discuss the other shows….Y&R does the same revolving stories over and over….Shouldn’t Newman & Jabot be jokes of the cosmetic world? The companies change hands so often, you never have the same CEO for more than a month….And how many times can we watch Nick go back & forth between Phyllis and Sharon? Bold & The Beautiful….I see no reason to mention it. The shows a complete total joke….am still wondering why this show is still around, and why it wins the awards it does, because it is the worst written soap on any network. They have veteran characters fixating on the lives of their children….spending months and months with everyone focusing on whether or not Liam should be with Hope of Steffy. How stupid is that? And now, I’ve seen advertisements that Brooke will be putting all of her energies toward keeping Amber away from her son….give me a break, and try to write some interesting stories. Days….well, I don’t have too many complaints about this show….I’ve recently started watching, and have found myself enjoying it…but it’s still not my OLTL.

What it all boils down to, is that Soap fans are pissed and feel like why bother getting invested when we know that the networks don’t invest as much interest in the soaps as the fans do.

I Dvr the soaps, so I can watch when i’m in bed or lounging…lolo just atarted to watch Y&R, and DOOL, never watched them BRFORE. I miss ATWT, OLTL, AMC….i have watched GH forever. and B&B watch this one too. the only thing it’s too short,. i don’t watch any of the daytime replacement shows. i refuse. i still enjoy the soaps, but they are going to have to some better writing. The gangster crap on GH is a bit to much…….

You are SO right. I always took a late lunch & watched OLTL at my desk at work & today for some reason I had this glimmer of anticipation at 12:50, then it’s like it hits me all over again-NO MORE OLTL. I just go into such a funk about it. Damn it. I can’t believe this time a year ago we had no idea what was coming. I watch all the other shows but none can fill the void. Agree with everything you said espec. about GH. I’ve been screaming “BALANCE” for months-that was one of the best things about OLTL-

Agree with you 100%, GH will not have much improvement with getting new viewers but have a much better shot of getting the ones who left, and that is where the focus should be at.

I was a faithful 30+ year viewer who turned off GH during the JFP/Guza years and returned for Frank & Ron’s work, while it has improved, I can not return as a regular viewer as long as the focus continues to be Sonny & Jason.

To the viewers that left who might tune back in will find nothing that resembles the show they used to enjoy. The core families you listed have been destroyed and the ones left have had their history re-written that they don’t even resemble who they originally were.

Frank & Ron inherited a show that has lost all of its heart and soul and is a shell of its former self, not an easy job and I wish them luck but so far it is not the direction I had hoped for. I will give them time because it can not be easy to repair this show but I hold out hope.

i feel that these soaps are geared directly to the much younger crowd. they are trying to gain the interest of the young. with some of the story lines ans music and the mixing of sexes. I guess they have to go with the flow. I don’t always agree but life is life

Great post, Sharon. Thank you! I’ll take it a step further, because I totally want Jason to revert to Jason Quartermaine, and I want Sonny in Pentonville and gone……for good. I love me some Maurice Benard, but the character of Sonny (along with Victor on Y&R) is the most vile, disgusting, despicable, self absorbed jackass excuse for a human being character on daytime. hehehee Sorry to get carried away, but you get my point.

FROM ONE FAN WHO LOVES GH AND SONNY,JASON AND THE MOB STORYLINE REGARDLES WE CANNOT BRING BACK AMC AND OLTL SORRY WISH WE COULD I MISS THEM MYSELF

BUT THE REASON I WATCH GH IS BECAUSE OF MAURICE, STEVE AND TONY GEARY, SORRY GUYS

I agree with you, Sharon. The Sonny and Jason storylines are so worn out – always the same thing, just different faces. One year this kid of his is shot, the next year it’s… Get Sonny out of there and let some other storylines shine. Jason’s role is always the same old thing, also. Would like to see the Quartermain version of Jason come back. Maybe he’d give up wearing that same black shirt everyday. What’s up with that, is it Sonny’s mob color?

I agree! That’s all I have to say. They got rid of the best soaps and left the one with the worst ratings!

If the ratings are down, I think it’s due to spring break throughout the country, people are on vacations. I love what is happening to GH, But it will all take time to come around! Can’t wait for more OLTL characters to come back…I wish they were here already!! I Miss OLTL!!

If you write a decent story they will come! Please tell me why you would tune into Y&R it is literally stupid B&B all about one person now Hope, GH takes more then a month to get back on track Days I have not watched in years so you guys will have to give your opinion on that. B&B anniversary show should have contained more flashbacks and no Liam or Hope! If this does not turn around all you are going to see is talk & reality shows, which is sad.

OHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH….NOOOOOOOOOOOOO more reality shows. and talk shows. i listen to talk radio when I’m home during the day…..lololol

Kay ,I wont see them ,I cant watch that crap ,but your right if the ratings dont go up we are in trouble,We all have to support the soaps and tune in every day,And the General hospital fans have to stop complaining about the one life to live people taking over port charles.JUST WATCH AND SUPPORT ALL THE SOAPS, Or Kay will be right the talk and reality shows will replace them and that we dont want ,also e mail abc.com 3 times a day ,Lets save general hospital ,days of our lives, bold and the beautiful, and the young and the restless ,We only have 4 left,Lets keep them.

I AGREE KAY B AND B IS ALL ABOUT HOPE, LIAM AD
AND STEFFY BORING, Y AND R IS AS BAD SAME OLE STORY SO I CAN SEE WHY PEOPLE ARE TUNING OUT

HOWEVER I DO LOVE MY GH AND SONNY,JASON AND LUKE

As far as Days losing viewers, I’m not surprised. The return and rewrite of history of the Princess Gina story is just turning away 2 large fan bases. Didn’t want to see it then and certainly not entertaining now. The writers need to get creative and give J&M and B&H new stories worthy of the talents of the actors that portray them. Loved that Deidre and Drake were brought back, but honestly their talents are being wasted as far as fans seeing the great chemistry and love story that they have had for decades. Sure we see Marlena with Will and John with Brady, but fans want to see their favorite couples together. Why couldn’t the writers give us a great story that had John, Marlena , Bo and Hope working together to finally take down Steffano? Instead they split up the shows most popular super couples.

I HAVE WATCHED DAYS ON AND OFF SINCE I WAS 8 YRS OLD WITH MY GRANDMA LOVED THE HORTONS, BRADYS ETC.

BUT ARE NOT CRAZY ABOUT MARLENA NEVER HAVE BEEN\

DO LOVE JOHN DRAKE HOGESTYN BUT DAYS COULD USE SOME MORE
STEFANO JOE MASCOLO IS GREAT

GH had such an opportunity to grab people like me. Busy mom working full time, really doesn’t have time for tv but grew up with GH. Haven’t watched GH since the mid-90’s…but was ready to MAKE TIME to fall in love with GH again! When I heard GH was bringing back my favorite legacy characters…the Scorpios…I tuned in immediately! I even watched the commercials to help the ratings! Even men I know were excited that Robert and Luke were together again! They tuned in! People were TALKING about GH again! And I mean people that haven’t watched soaps in YEARS! Then they pulled the whole bait and switch thing. Robert was on for a few episodes. They made his character do something he would never do…leave before going to Robin’s funeral and leave Anna in her time of need. To top it off Robin’s funeral should have been packed with legacy characters. WE WERE READY TO WATCH! But tptb blew their chance. I’m too busy to watch characters that I don’t care about. Let me know when Scorpio comes back and legacy characters are respected. I’ll tune in again and even spread the word! 🙂

THIS!!,!,!,!,!,!,!,!,,!,

They totally blew it with this Scorpio story. It was horrible. The only week this regime has seen a ratings increase was the week Robert Scorpio returned. In fact, the day he returned, 2/29, they garnered a 2.0. They have not had a rating like that in over 6 months, nor have they seen it since.

Good point about Robert Scorpio and the hopes we held when we were told he was returning. These cameo appearances for just a few days do not promote loyalty of viewers that loved the GH from years ago. I agree that Robin’s wake was an excellent opportunity to bring in some others that haven’t been in PC for some time; maybe some that would stay as permanent characters . I hope Finola Hughes will stick around. Maybe she’ll help John get Sonny’s butt out of town permanently! I am sOOO tired of the Sonny and Jason show, Carly’s always in the middle.

ALL YOU OLD FANS OF GH NEED TO GIVE IT A TRY BECAUSE WE CANNOT LOSE ANOTHER SOAP, WE NEED OUR SOAPS

I HAVE WATCHED GH FOR 18 YRS BECAUSE OF MAURICE BENARD AKA, SONNY AND ALSO TUNED IN DURING THE LUKE AND LAURA YRS

I will say that I have given GH a try from time to time over the years. Certainly every time they brought back Anna and Scorpio I tuned in again. But I was always disappointed in the way they portrayed the old characters I loved and invested so much of my time in when I used to watch regularly. It’s as if the new writers never watched the show in their lives. I’m sorry…but the writing turned me off every time and frankly the characters that are at the center of all of the action now just don’t grab me the way the legacy characters do. I did tune in the other day and I was a little more engaged than I usually am by the show these days. Anna, Luke, Heather Webber…they were all enjoyable to watch. And I do see the making of a love triangle between Anna Luke and HOPEFULLY ROBERT. It would be wierd but engaging. Of course Scorpio would win Anna in the end! ;)And the whole Robin being alive is also very exciting because it sets the stage for a rescue that can involve old and newer characters. So there is alot of potential. I just hope there is follow through. I’d be sad if GH got cancelled. But for me it’s just not “must see tv” without the real Scorpio.

It’s being pounded into us, by the networks, and other sources, that SOAPS are a dying industry, and it becomes exhausting! ABC does nothing to promote General Hospital to try to gain new viewers. NOTHING. Since Brian Frons decided to tell people what they really want to watch, I as a fan, feel like it’s only a matter of time till GH is gone. We cried out. We protested. We boycotted… no one listened. Money talks… people walk. Personally, I will support GH till the end, but after the insulting way ABC has treated it’s audience, I probably won’t after GH ends.

I AGREE JEN, WILL SUPPORT GH TILL THE END

BUT WILL NOT SUPPORT ABC AT ALL ONCE GH ENDS

AND WILL NOT EVEN LOOK AT KAITE COURIC PERIOD
HATE THE CHEW AND THE REVOLUTION

ALSO NO LONGER WATCH ANY ABC SHOWS NITE TIME OR DAYTIME
OTHER THAN GH THEY DO NOT CARE ABOUT THE VIEWERS SO WHY SHOULD WE SUPPORT ANY OF THEIR PROGRAMS

WILL CONTINE TO SUPPORT GH ONLY

It is all down to the ratings. I believe that 100 %. Perhaps ABC could set up an email address or something so everyone who watched GH could send an email to count as a viewer. Something to this means is the only way to get true numbers. There could be a message at the bottom of the screen to email if you are viewing this show.

Thats a good Idea and you can have a id tag of some kind and you can call or like you said e mail the letters/numbers in,Only problem there are to many ding bats working at the rat channel I think they lie about the true ratings,So many times I will hear a network say that 200 million people tuned in to see the blah blah show when in fact they are not telling the truth so many lies and I know that abc/disney never told the truth in the amount of people who watched the abc soaps. What abc didnt count on was the big backlash from the fans I dont think they ever had any idea how we would fight back and stick to it,to try and save our soaps there are so many of us ,but who is listening?I think abc/disney is they just dont care ,the dont care about the value of a show anymore just the value of the amount of money they can have with cheep ,trashy programing have you watched the ads they have with those dopy shows that are going to be on prime time while general hospital is on?there terrible ,they dont have any respect for women thats for sure, dont trust the b in apartment 23 ,I wonder what the b means now thats 2 shows cgb and now this disgusting.

I think the numbers are not being captured appropriately. I have been watching all four for months… and GH for years!. I must admit that I watch on Hulu sometimes and I do not understand why the watches on Hulu can’t be captured. I hear the dvr and recordings for GH are not accurate. It isn’t because people are not watching!

are DVR recordings counted?????i never heard that before, cause I DVR the soaps everyday, and (don’t laugh) VCR record in my bedroom where I don’t have DVR service…..so i record Y&R, and B&Bm everyday on my VCR,lol

I read that cable and DVR recordings are counted, and watching on the abc channel – because they have a way for the service to be reported back to them (neilsen).

I actually use a digital tuner and it can’t report back to anyone, so if i ever watch the rat channel, no one knows! which is great, cuz I have to leave it on all day in order for my dvd recorder to record GH which is on at 2pm.

oh, and my recording device is VHS/DVD recorder… and it’s brand new! I can record to tape or dvd, so I’m not laughing!

The whole system has to be changed everyone needs to be counted,And the networks should not be able to lie about how many people watched or did not watch the different programs abc/disney/the rat channel are the masters at that they lied about how many people that were watching the abc soaps ,There finding out now, because we are letting them know that we are here, and not going away.

Wow Sharon a bit harsh!! Please speak for yourself as I disagree with every single thing you said.
The Spencer’s are washed up!! Killing the characters you want would kill the show FOR SURE!! ! No one blows Carly away like Laura Wright!! Anyway. All the negative feed back sucks and considering you don’t support daytime as YOU DON’T WATCH!! We will thank you for helping save our GH (NOT). It’s funny how everyone helped out AMC the worst by the time it was canceled & OLTL which was great but a bit over the to. Now we need your help and those fans said screw GH THANKS
Not sure how GH ratings are so low IT’S BEEN AMAZING for a while now!! Nielsen Sucks!!!

I’m actually watching all the soaps that remain to help save the shows. I have to say GH is the best of them
All. Days and B&B tied and Y&R last. Slow and boring!!
They need better written stories. The acting is GREAT

This troubles me, and I am also somewhat surprised. We can come up with any excuse we want, whether it be Neilsen is wrong (which could be true, who knows), pre-emptions or nice weather lost viewers, whatever the case may be, the bottom line is, if you love your soap(s), no matter what, you have to be loyal and watch and/or DVR/tivo it/them. I have watched all three ABC soaps for mannnnny years, and am saddened at the loss of AMC and especially OLTL, but we still have GH, and I refuse to give up on it. I find the new regime refreshing and moving in the right direction, and am certainly enjoying the show more now than I have in a couple of years, so I look forward to what’s yet to come. On another note, any word on this week’s ratings of the Revolution yet? If they say the viewership increased for that, then for real, something is very wrong, I have never watched it, but from the previews alone, this show truly seems like a ratings (and advertiser’s) nightmare. Again, whatever your favorite soap or soaps are, please tune in and show your support!

love daytime soaps never realy watch night time. I miss my One Life 2 Live and All My Children.. I was hoping the Manning”s coming to G.H. would help G.H. plus we may get to see more of the OL2L people. I know they are taping, but come on now bring back TODD MANNING 2 G.H…… ABC daytime line up is bad right…. Come on G.H. get it together. I will really be pissed if it cancelled 2. Need to see Sonny, Todd and the whole cast. I feel someone has dropped the ball here…..

Nielsen needs a new way to find their ratings. Though GH is far from what it use to be, it has made alot of progress. Surely the ratings should be up.

I dvr Days every day and I watch it within 24 hours so that it helps with the ratings, and Days is really good lately. The stories are more interesting, wish the ratings would reflect that.

I know I was watching DOOL when they rebooted and yes the pacing was off but I think KC jumped the shark by bringing in the old EP from Passions and now we are going to get PassionsLite, with redux of Princess Gina for example and the direction has definitely changed with the new EP, I personally liked how Noel was leading the direction, we have no Maggie & Victor now but side characters basically since, Lisa R. is pretty bad, more of Reeds instead of the Hortons. I stopped watching. Will story is the strongest by far and being a gay male I am curious but I won’t support now because I hated Passions. As for Y&R, someone needs to wake up at the wheel and take the blinders off because MAB & crew is destroying Y&R. The Bells can’t be blind not realizing what is happening to Y&R? Will they actually let someone destroy the soap Bill created because of she is family? Maybe so. Daisy & Rick….please why are they trying to ram this couple down our throats? Daisy is hated character and fans has voiced this loud and clear …but no more Daisy. She will end up dead like Diane and it will be horrible story. MAB is doing the same old stories over again and always trying to hide behind Bill Bell’s tremendous shadow. I have no problem with MAB in the personal sense but creatively MAB isn’t the right person to be in charge. Sony needs to clean house and shore up writers that have a long history with Y&R knowing the characters. We had “Jill” dressed in comedy routine geisha girl outfit! Bill never wrote Jill as comedy, Bill’s “Jill” was always hungry for power & money & men! The perfect opportunity to use “Jill” was when Katherine & Tucker was fighting over his company and Chancellor Industries, Jill could been buying up stock to put her in the CEO over both companies. There would have been mayhem in the Chancellor mansion, reignited the feud between her and Kay and caught Tucker by surprise bringing Mom & son closer. No we get this Devon mess, YoHarmony changing the character. To much of changing histories of characters and fans doesn’t recognize them at all. It is so sad what soaps have become. I much rather watch my DVDs or go online and watch YT for good soap, which I have been doing and not watching faithfully any soaps except B&B. I know many and myself get tired of Hope’s virginity story but you know what the proof is in the ratings. B&B has been the only soap to go up in the important demos the last year and households because young preteen girls to 16-17 are watching and liking this story. It is an old fashion type of story of the ’70s, Brad is bringing back the Spencers which I love. That is when I loved B&B, using history of Caroline. Now he needs to recast Margo (love to have Colleen Zink). Brooke is turning into Stephanie in front of eyes about Rick, Amber is the new Brooke…pure awesomeness. It’s keeping characters intact is what viewers love. Now they need bring back House of Spectra, calling Bobbie Eakes, Macy could be alive somewhere, Clark, DJ, to honor Sally, and why not have Sally having a sister that could play the type of character Sally was…either Marj D. or Louise S. would be perfect IMO…just saying…MAB isn’t doing anything like that on Y&R. How can you ask viewers to stick with a soap when it’s so bad, they leave and we all know it’s hard to bring viewers back after they have stopped watching.

It was a huge mistake to bring OLTL characters over to GH. Many GH fans have stopped watching the show because of this.

Are OLTL characters really getting that much air time? Is that the reason for the drop in ratings or is it because OLTL isn’t the lead in any longer? Or is it the dominant, boring mob violence storyline? It’s probably multifactorial. Besides, if all GH fans stopped watching and all OLTL viewers started, GH’s ratings would be higher than they are now.

David,You are so right. And I agree with you that if all the one life to live viewers started watching the ratings would go up,general hospital fans (which I am ) are using the 4 characters as an excuse to stop watching(Im not) how 4 people can stop anyone from watching g h makes no sense ,Seriously if it was announced today that that everyone from landview was moving to port charles the ratings would go up ,also all the posts that I read at other sights say the same thing over and over again that they use to watch gh but the mob stories took over so they are gone one use to be fan said if someone put a bullet in sonnys head they would come back, general hospital was abused with lousy writing for so many years I know I sat through it and hated what general hospital has become I watched it since the dr hardy days so I know what I have been watching over the almost 50 years ,also as you asked, are the one life to live characters getting that much air time ?the answer to that is ,no.As far as Im concerned they are not getting enough air time.

OMG…you can’t pleazse everyon I guess….I thought it was a smart move on GH’s part to at least try the cast of OLTL.I hope i get to see more crossovers.

agree! I loved OLTL and usually watched GH… I’ve never seen this as an invasion (can 3-4 people be an invasion?!). There are actors that have been on both shows – Jackie Zeman was on OLTL first, but always think of her as Bobby Spencer. Tuc Watkins on GH first, always think of him as David on OLTL… many many have been on both, and many of them have been on several ABC soaps over the years. It’s not an invasion, they’re all part of the same ABC soap family!

I always loved it when characters crossed over – like Skye Chandler & Ray Cummings. I thought it was cool when shows did that – even when NBC did that with Crossing Jordan and Vegas.

If GH had been the show to go under and OLTL was still on, I’d expect the show to pull in some of the lost talent on GH, especially to please fans of the lost show and get more viewers.

Too bad OLTL isn’t still on. It was the only soap that was gaining viewers and had more than the previous year. Imagine how the ratings would have increased with Todd tried and sentenced for Victor’s murder, only to have it revealed Victor was still alive, followed by a relentless competition between the two brothers. Tea’s baby would have been born. Viki and Clint would marry. There were so many other compelling storylines we never got to see it makes me sick to think about it.

David ,you are making me homesick for landview ,So many wonderful events could have taken place since one life to live has been gone ,such love and respect I have for my soap stars and there characters ,Right now if I have a choice of general hospital or One life to live I would choose to be with vicki ,clint bo, nora ,roxy, they were a pleasure to watch and spent that precious hour a day with, will I ever get over the fact that abc/disney killed my favorite place to go everyday?

No, Barbara, I am afraid we and others like us will never get over the loss of OLTL. It was a consistently wonderful part of our life for decades. We will always love and miss our Llanview family. Looking back, I am amazed by the degree of positive emotion, acceptance, and love Viki radiated through a television presence. It was heartwarming to see Natalie and Jessica reconcile and to know Viki and Clint would remarry. Who could ever forget Roxy and her salon? I so wanted to see the birth of Tea’s baby and for Victor to escape so he could surprise her in the delivery room. I could go on about every character but you already know.

OLTL FAN !!! I tried to tune in to GH. IT SUCKS!. Not Enough OLTL Character time. GH is TIRED and BORING. Just can’t get in to it. I have tried. You can’t replace VICKY BUCHANNAN !!! KATE !!!! Please !!!

Most have changed channels.

NO OLTL, NO AMC, NO ABC,…

also, it’s spring, chill out people, maybe folks got out and go some sun !!!

I’m not sure who is more to blame for Y&R crashing and burning every single year–Maria Arena Bell or her pet actress Yvonne Zima. Seriously, get Y&R back to its family roots–the Chancellors are barely even shown! Where’s the real drama?

B&B is obsessed with Hope to the point that it’s becoming unwatchable some days. Do an adult storyline for a change.

DAYS is too dull to even bother with most days. Sorry, that’s the truth. The DiMeras are all washed up and every single storyline has “retread” stamped on it.

I think the problem is there is no balance.. They are focusing to much on Jason/Carly/Sonny.. People want change and some actors are not giving any airtime. To much focus on newbies that have no history or attachments to any characters. A 2 time Emmy winner like Julie Marie Berman is giving 3 to 5 mins of airtime.. Not sure why new writers can’t writer for a hot young couple like Lante.. Its a shame that after 35 years of being a faithful viewer and a huge Lante fan that I find myself not wanting to rush home to watch.. i am having a hard time watching without my fav’s on ..

Here’s the odd thing. I rarely give new nighttime shows a chance anymore just because the networks drop them so fast. If I invest time and something I enjoy is dropped after one or two shows I just wasted my time. Whereas with daytime soaps I give my time to everyday. If the networks supported and promoted their daytime serials the viewership would increase just based on the premise that you can rely on the show being on each week not just a fash in the pan. Something to consider, ABC.

GH should not be osing viewers. DAYS should be as there writing at the moment is sooooo bad that I want to literally tear my hair out. They have awful storylines and are completely ignoring the history of DAYS. EJ and Sami in my opinion are the best supercouple on the show even though they have not even had a chance to be together. The new writers have promised alot and have FAILED to deliver.
GH however is great, the writing has improved and I am so glad that Robin is alive. Kimberly McCullough is lovely and an A+ actress. She has alot of respect for the show and daytime in general.

Note to Sony: I’m ready and willing to take over Y&R whenever you decide to hit the panic button and get rid of MAB/Sheffer/Hamner. Is enough, enough yet?

I can’t even watch Days ny more…but I’m in Canada so my viewership (or lack thereof) doesn’t even register….

I am a soap fan who grew up watching ATWT. When it went off the air, I started watching Y&R and OLTL. I though OLTL was great during this time, and I am still wishing for a miracle to bring it back to daytime. (And yes, I am in the coveted 18-49 year old demographic.)

I think that Y&R is currently terrible. I try to like it but I just can’t get invested in any of the story lines. I am the minority that doesn’t like Lily and Cane or Adam and Sharon. In fact, the only story that I am somewhat interested in is the story of Billy, Victoria, etc. But even that is getting old. I must admit that I haven’t tuned in for weeks.

I am TRYING to like GH. since some of my beloved OLTL fans are making appearances. Yet, I have to fast forward through some of the show because it is unbearable. The Olivia/Kate story, for instance, does nothing for me. I am HATE the Franco story. Who thinks the way to get 18-49 year old middle income women to watch a show is to showcase violence? We are looking for romance, with a little comedy and drama thrown in.

I do check this site frequently in the hopes that I will find that OLTL stars find a home on GH or elsewhere soon.

Rome wasn’t built in a day. It’s going to take time for Frank and Ron to turn GH around. But I’m confident that they will. People need to have patience. The show has already improved a great deal since they took over. It will take time for that to be reflected in the ratings.

Dan, you are right ,I love what I am seeing now,and I know Frank and Ron have more interesting stories to tell .General hospital has been in the twilight zone for so long they have to untangle all the damage that has been done to our beloved characters on general hospital and they are off to a good start.

I stopped watching soaps everyday, because the the story moves so slowly, slow like in the 59’s..boring.

I agree with you Rich. I had been a long time OLTL viewer since the mid 70’s and I watched GH too, but the moment that the writers turned from the hospital and the doctors family’s to that of the mob with Stimpy Corinthos taking the spot light..well I quit watching. Came back again threw the years and now the stories are just ripoffs of past OLTL stories and nothing original . Nope, not even the Franco story is original.. just another rip off of past ones ad nauseum.

Who didn’t see the DID story with Kate coming., come on enough!
I can take it or live it..and for the most part, I’m leaving it. as to me GH just doesn’t have that special mix of drama, romance, mystery and slap stick humor that OLTL had and THATS WHY OLTLs ratings were higher then GH’s.along with the actors who put their hearts into the roles they played.

The biggest thing that has killed GH.. OLTL learned this , is that you DONT KILL OFF and get rid of those actors {Unless they want to leave} and familys in the story lines which are key corner stones to the show .{Alan, etc etc.} Its now come back to bite um in the butt.

I think the ratings system is simply not reflective of how people watch soaps. Fans watch on line, DVR, etc. I also think, however, that the industry is losing viewers because the medium has alienated its most loyal followers. In a very short period of time, the soap industry has lost major shows, the cable network SoapNet, and the recent demise of Soap Opera Weekly. ALL of this serves to influence potential viewers. Since soaps are no longer viable as a permanent entertainment choice, fans are no longer willing to invest their time watching a show that could very likely be canceled. Investing time watching a soap is very different from prime time shows. Soap fans watch their shows over many, many years. Part of the fun IS the long term investment. We KNOW that at certain times, sometimes even for long stretches of time, a soap can run into a creative problems. However, loyal soap followers hang in during these disappointing story lines, and the pay off is that the same soap will, after months- or even years, revert back to creative, watchable stories. Now, we are learning this is no longer possible. After all, If AMC can be canceled, then its only a matter of time before the industry as a whole is affected. Also, I think it was foolish to assume that AMC or OLTL fans would simply start watching one of the remaining soaps. Viewers watched their shows because they were vested in the stories of their characters, not necessarily because they loved ‘soaps in general’. I’m sure that life long fans of GL, ATWT, AMC, and OLTL were pretty pissed off when their shows were obliterated, and were not so eager to commit to another show. That being said- I am a lifelong DAYS fan. I think the show is enjoying a creative flux right now. The writing is great (LOVE the Will storyline, looking forward to revising Princess Gina), the returning veteran performers are fantastic (I can never get enough of Deidre Hall), and the show is surprisingly fast paced. If Days is ever canceled I will be spending too much time picketing and boycotting NBC to even think of tuning in another soap.

I’m trying to watch Y & R, it’s just not doing it for me. Crazy Daisy, cartoon mobsters, and confusing business deals are NOT entertaining. Focus on the families! Please Days! Dump that silly Princess Gina story. Give us more Will! GH is great except for the Kate/Connie mess.
Please folks, if you want to save your favorite shows, you must watch them.

Yes you are so right about saving whichever show is your favorite, but you have to watch, as much as sometimes I FF through my DVR at times I trying to be positive about Y&R. This is why I did go back after a year of non-viewing back home to CBS. The most positive story on Y&R is JackNikki reuniting again. This story is classic Y&R by far, I’m enjoying the redux of these two characters because it has been so long in the making to screens again. Yes, there has been others to come between VictorNikki with boring results but this has a much better emotional impact with Victor because of Jack. Vets are front & center and the use of true history not changing history….good soap. Keep your fingers crossed the story will develop the right beats to play and slow it down. Sometimes I think Y&R is moving to fast in story-lines missing the beats and that could be some of the problem. I know times have changes and stories in general do move in a faster pace today, and if people who knew Bill Bell moved at a snail pace and was criticize by many media outlets but Bill didn’t miss the beats to play. Part of fun of good soap opera telling is the “FRUSTRATION” a viewer experiences (in a fun way) of wanting either couple or story-line is heading and boy Bill’s payoff was TREMENDOUS when it came across our screens.

I was a long time viewer of OLTL. I am very upset over its cancellation especially since it had better ratings than GH. I have tried to watch GH, but cannot get into it. I do not like the male mobster characters and the others do not draw me in. Sending two or three OLTL characters to GH is not enough for me. First GH takes OLTL’s head writer , producer, several actors and now if it takes OLTL’s time slot, that is going to really annoy me. My annoyance is shown by boycotting anything ABC and Disney. Many of us have done all we could to try to get OLTL back such as letter writing, internet contacts. Now maybe quite a few viewers are just boycotting all soaps in general. Why invest so much emotional energy in a show when it could be cancelled very soon?

GH is improving, but OLTL had heart and soul, the sets conveyed a sense of the town’s rich tapestry: Llanfair and La Boule side by side with Roxie’s salon, the dive hotels, etc. There was a quirkiness and a warmth that felt rich and endlessly interesting. GH feels flat by comparison, and the characters much harder to love. I was excited at the beginning of FV and RC’s run, but I’m still having trouble caring about these people who all seem morally compromised in the worst way.

p.s. Dante and Lulu are so boring. Mac and Alexis are more appealing than most of the cast, but so far, they’re no Bo and Nora. How about Tea as the new PC prosecutor? Why not have Vicki buy a nice penthouse for frequent visits. The plots and writing have improved. Now we need diversity (economic and otherwise) and heart.

Theres no place like home, and thats what landview felt like ,General hospital is getting better ,but it will take 43 years to make it feel like home .Frank and Ron are doing good with what they have to work with,Im glad its them helping to put general hospital back together again, with them there is hope.I miss vicki most of all.

Love your comments. You really captured significant aspects of OLTL that made it so special: heart and soul, rich, quirky, warm, and endlessly interesting. It’s nice to know I wasn’t the only one who valued these things. I would watch OLTL and marvel at the details of the sets: the accessories on the desks of the wealthy, the gadgets and pots in the diner’s kitchen, Roxy’s amazing glitzy and garish salon, the sleaze of the Minute Man Motel. The characters were complex and flawed but tried to redeem themselves and usually succeeded. You could admire and root for them and love them like family. The friendships of Viki/Dorian and Blair/Tea were complicated and messy, but they evolved to be mutually supportive.

What you said about GH rings true for me too. It’s sad GH has been gutted by poor storylines and bad writing for so many years that it is hard to care about most of the one dimensional, boring or morally compromised characters. The contrast between GH and OLTL is more stark than I ever could have imagined. I love and miss everyone in Llanview every single day.

I am a huge Dante and Lulu fan because i think they have the best chemistry and wonderful lovestory, but their screentime has been greatly diminished dramatically over the past couple of months and that really makes me mad!! They are only shown for about 2-3 minutes about 2 days a week and it seems like the writers don’t know what to do with them nowdays unless it involves them at the PCPD talking about this boring stripper case that has been going on way too long (who cares anyways?) and another conversation about Sonny for the zillionth time(yawn!) . Yes, Mac and Alexis need to be more front and center, I totally agree. I really like them together also. They are definetly underusing alot of great actors on this show.

I don’t know if anybody realizes this but March is a big spring break month for all grades of school. Which is why the daytime numbers are done……IMO.

What the hell do ratings mean? NOTHING, because I watch every single soap on the air every day in their entirety. But I watch online or on SoapNet.

Thats what I keep saying.and they should be able to come up with something to count people and what they are watching and everyone should get counted no matter your age.

I just left general hospitals facebook page and they are saying that today is general hospitals 49 anniversary ,hopefully we make it till 50 and beyond that, happy anniversary general hospital from a very long time fan.

I am sure the ratings are down because most people were watching it on Soap Net so I guess that’s why you took it off the air . I pay extra to have the channel and now there is not one it just skips right over it I am very disappointed because you took off the air I no a lot of people watch at night because they work . DISAPPOINTED IN GEORGIA!!!!!!

I dont understand ,I have direct tv and soapnet is still on,I also heard that a lot of parents are pissed off at direct tv because they arent putting disney junior on which is fine by me ,There are to many kid channels.what took the place for soapnet where you are?Im still happy in florida. ,for how long, thats another question.

MAB’s Y&R is in a meltdown. Dump Daisy, Cane/Lily, Tucker, Patty, Ricky, YoHarmony, Devon, Angelo/Angelina, and Chloe. Focus on Newmans vs Abbotts, with Chancellors thrown in. More Nick vs Adam, less Genevieve vs Victor. Use the characters that bring the passion. CBS and Sony need to step in and get this show back on track before they lose their audience for good.

OLTL was my favorite soap and I really miss it. It did have so much more going on in the way of romance, drama, humor and action but for the most part, alot more balance amongst the characters and storylines. I was also a fan of AMC but it’s writing got a little sloppy over the years as well. I wasn’t happy with all of the s/l’s, but overall I think they did a much better job than GH has! I am SO sick of all the mobster dominance stories on GH! This show has had so many times to ease up on that and provide more balance to the show like they did in the past, but instead TPTB continue to keep the main focus around Sonny, Jason and Carly, boring!! I used to like them all, but they have been dominating most or all of the storylines for way too long!! When RC and FV took over, it is too bad they started out linking the OLTL characters to Sonny and on top of that, Starr’s daughter and boyfriend got killed when last year little Jake on GH already died!! I also see similiar storylines the RC wrote on OLTL showing up on GH, esp this ridiculous DID Kate/Connie mess!! That was the same thing that Vicki and Jess had on there. Enough already, that is not a way to attract new viewers and keeping them by continuing with more gloom and depressing storylines, which have taken over GH too much in the last few years. Someone mentioned earlier that whenever you do see other characters for like 5 minutes out of a week, all they do IS talk about Sonny, and I agree! I am so over it! It is like no one can have their own storyline unless it involves Sonny!! I have totally lost interest in GH sadly and they should just go ahead and bow out gracefully. So no, I will not be shocked when it gets cancelled and I am not going to watch it just to keep it on air. Give me some more balance and excitement and maybe I will tune back in, but for now, I have checked out of the “hospital” for good!! Once you have alienated many viewers with the same ole boring and depressing storylines, you are going to drive them away and it is very hard to get them back.

Actually, I watch Days on Youtube at night. The problem is that the story lines are all over the place, they are recycling story lines, dropped some decent story lines or are dragging them out to the point you don’t know what happened to some pieces or have lost interest, and some of the story lines are not that good. With that said, I am glad that they have brought back some past characters ( Marlena, John, Lucas, etc.), I really like the Will gay story line and Marlena was excellent too. In general, I do think the show is better now than it was the past year, they were writing better story lines, but recently I think they are regressing into some past patterns that are not as good. They have some good actors and characters now, but they need better story lines, writing, and to tighten all up. They should focus on the core many characters, stay with some of the more interesting story lines like gay/Will story line, the Stefano envelope, and cut out some of the lame story lines ( Carrie/Austin/Abigail, Madison/Brady).

seems spring break was just plain bad for daytime, period…. althought I have to say the following is cheery news! te he he

The Chew – Week of 3/19/12
Viewers: 2.04 million, Women 25-54: 0.9/ 6, Women 18-49: 0.6/ 4, Women 18-34: 0.3/ 2

All My Children – Week of 3/21/11
Viewers: 2.37 million, Women 25-54: 1.1 rating/ 7 share, Women 18-49: 0.8/ 5, Women 18-34: 0.4/ 3

Percent Change – The Chew vs. All My Children
Viewers: -14, Women 25-54: -18, Women 18-49: -25, Women 18-34: -25

***

The Revolution – Week of 3/19/12
Viewers: 1.32 million, Women 25-54: 0.7/ 4, Women 18-49: 0.5/ 3, Women 18-34: 0.2/ 2

One Life to Live – Week of 3/21/11
Viewers: 2.51 million, Women 25-54: 1.3/ 8, Women 18-49: 0.9/ 6, Women 18-34: 0.5/ 4

Percent Change – The Revolution vs. One Life to Live
Viewers: -47, Women 25-54: -46, Women 18-49: -44, Women 18-34: -60

Here’s my idea for increasing ratings, winning back some viewer loyalty AND cutting production costs: move OLTL production to LA and setup a smart schedule so that they can use the same studio as GH. Llanview can be recreated easily enough, even if the sets have been destroyed. (I’d be fine accepting a tornado or 2012 related explanation for the remodeled sets). Combine writing and production (bring on Lorraine Broderick to help), share characters (McBain and Devane as the roving federal agents, Sonny as the big bad (if they must), Starr and Michael and Todd and Blair could all move back and forth, which means they can cut some second stringers. The result is much higher ratings for the entire lineup and lower costs to boot. Are you telling me that nobody at ABC can figure out a ROI for this? Who will be demanding The Chew back in two weeks let alone six months after its final episode!!

Well Days is just dull, they never gave a chance to Ej and Sami, the most dynamic duo on this soap..all the other stories are dull and cheesy as hell except the Will story and while i am a happy about the friendship between his parents Lucas and Sami (they really work as friends, don’t make them romantic again Dool, Sami needs friends not bed buddies !!) they will make Sami the homophone one..well i don’t watch that, Sami is flawed and self-centered but homophobe NOT ! NEVER !! She is THE ONE who would get Will outsider vibe !!

I swear, some of the ungrateful wretches who call themselves soap fans must eat your young. With fans like you, who needs ABC execs…
OLTL and GH are two entirely different programs, It’s not realistic to compare the two. OLTL is gone and I don’t want lose another.
I’ve watched all ABC soaps for 45 years. There are good story lines and bad story lines. Characters come and characters go and characters come back. NO character is/was irreplaceable. Ratings go up and ratings go down and ratings go up.
I miss AMC. And I miss OLTL a lot — A LOT. But, I am f*cking thrilled ABC renewed GH’s contract and hope the other networks follow suit.

Days of our Lives Star, Greg Vaughan, Gives Health Update and Thanks Everyone for Their Support

Greg Vaughan (Eric, Days of our Lives, ex-Lucky, GH, and ex-Diego, Y&R) provided an update on his health on Sunday, March 17th. Vaughan had previously shared that he had become ill during a trip with his sons to Colorado, and had developed altitude sickness when he was having trouble breathing accompanied by terrible headaches and landed in the urgent care.

Now on St. Patrick’s Day, Greg took to his Instagram and shared how he is feeling now, and to thank everyone for their love and support.  As it turned out, Vaughan was diagnosed with high altitude pulmonary edema, commonly known as HAPE. However, he is on the mend slowly and surely.

In his new video post, the DAYS favorite started by expressing, “I just felt such an appreciation and gratitude for everything. . reaching out. Your prayers have been felt. It’s been a struggle, but I’m over the top. And, taking this moment just to say I didn’t realize the things that I was going through. My (original) post was simply just to educate, put some information out there and some things that I was feeling, just share that information and the struggle that I was going through, which I didn’t quite understand. And it wasn’t because I’m stubborn or just because I’m a father, a man, and didn’t want to go to a doctor. It is just something I thought was so minor that I could overcome it, just by taking care of myself.”

The Daytime Emmy winner then revealed his actual diagnosis, “So, basically my situation was high altitude pulmonary edema (HAPE). With some good friends, doctors that had reached out to me, it kind of gave me some understanding on the aftermath, which was very, very beneficial.”

“But I’ve been resting, taking care of myself even though I live in a hamster wheel,” said the dad of three teenaged boys. “I gotta get up and, you know, do my normal domesticated stuff, eventually. I’m tired of laying down in this bed, but, I am feeling much better.”

Photo: GVaughanIG

Talking on his confusion of trying to understand what could have been ailing him, Vaughan expressed, “I couldn’t quite figure it out, even though I was emphasizing and professing to my children going on our spring break getaway about hydration. I professed it. But, even though I was acting on it, it had a greater effect on me, and for which I did not even think, because my head was such in pain, and I was in a very bad state of mind – not being able to be out there with my kids on the mountain, enjoying their time, as well. I thought I was doing the right thing. Unfortunately, my lungs were full of fluids and my head was in severe pain and even migraine pills didn’t even help. So, I just want anybody that goes into the Colorado Mountains to know, it is no joke. It is this very serious thing which I guess is why they call it the Mile High City.”

Greg had a mountain of ‘thank you’s’ to give for the outreach he received from his original post, “For everybody internationally, wherever you are, I love you and I appreciate you and just the time and the thoughts that you’ve shared with me,” said Vaughan. “I didn’t realize that it would make such an impression on so many people around the world. I feel tremendously loved and I can’t say it enough. I’m good. And I appreciate you.”

Photo: GVaughanIG

The actor concluded his video with, “To all the family and friends that have reached out to me, man, it means the world. So take care of yourself, enjoy your spring break with your families. It’s Saint Patty’s Day, obviously. I wish I could be out there.” Vaughan added, “I feel loved and touched and I can’t emphasize that enough. I’ll take better care of myself, promise you will do the same.” Before he signed off, Greg shared, “Just know, that I’m alive and well and breathing, and I’m sore. So, be well, take care. I mean it. Thank you, tremendously.”

Glad to know that Greg has been on the mend, and shared his appreciation for everyone that reached out to him during this trying time? Comment below.

Days of our Lives Star Greg Vaughan Shares Sudden Health Scare: “I Truly Feel Like I Work & Live in a Soap Opera!”

What started out as an adventure with his sons, quickly turned into a nightmare for Days of our Lives Daytime Emmy winner, Greg Vaughan (Eric Brady).

In a series of Instagram posts, Vaughan shared the sudden health crisis he found himself in.  The images show Greg with an oxygen tank to help him breathe.

The actor began to fill people, sharing, “I’ve said more than a few times, I truly feel like I work & live in a Soap Opera! 🤪 this trip was nothing short of another great Vaughan adventure!”

He went on to say that on a father and son Colorado spring break trip, he began to feel shortness of breath, feeling tired and with a headache and after two days of hoping he would feel better, Vaughan finally went to an Urgent Care to get checked out.

Photo: GVaughanIG

“I finally surrendered & went to urgent care and to my shock I learned that I was experiencing severe altitude sickness.” Vaughan admitted. “My Blood Oxygen was at 54% & my lungs were full of fluids! Blood oxygen, also known as oxygen saturation, represents the percentage of hemoglobin in your red blood cells that is carrying oxygen. Most people have an oxygen level of 95-100%….”

Providing more detail to his health scare, Greg shared, “Well, 4hrs later, a couple of bags of IV & oxygen tank strapped to my face, I was told that I needed to immediately get off the mountain! However I couldn’t, we still had another day to go & wanting the boys to enjoy their last day on the hill tops! I opted to go home with an oxygen tank, a good laugh for everyone, and I know will follow, but my boys looked after their old man & fortunately they had friends on this trip!”

Photo: JPI

The experience of altitude sickness in the Colorado Rockies gave Vaughan a bit of a new perspective, “In all seriousness, no matter your age, and all the times I’ve ⛷️ & 🏂 in my lifetime, Colorado Rockies is no joke! As they say, ‘ take a breathe and smell the roses!’ That is truly something we need to remember & appreciate! #recover”

Share your well-wishes to Greg as he continues to be on the mend via the comment section below.
