RATINGS: Y&R Has Good Week For Its 10,000 Episode! DAYS & B&B Show Some Gains Too!

Courtesy/CBS

Looks like folks were tuning in to the drama in Genoa City surrounding the series highly promoted 10,000th episode milestone, and perhaps checking out the new revamped images in the series opening credits!

For the ratings week of September 24th-28th, Y&R had Sharon about to marry Tucker, Victor’s “funeral”, Victor’s returns from the dead etc.,  and it scored well with viewers.  The already number one sudser gained + 161,000 total viewers – the most for the week of the four network daytime dramas.

In addition, Y&R also added the most 18-49 female viewers in that key demo with +76.000, and had a net gain of +2 for the ratings share for the demo as well.   It also had the most gains in male viewers for the week.

Now over at The Bold and the Beautiful and Days of our Lives, both shows gained viewers with B&B adding + 138,000 and also adding some +10,000 viewers in the key 18-49 female demo.   And as for DAYS, they added +44,000 viewers for the week and added viewers in the 18-49 female demo as well with +55,000!

General Hospital was the only show to show a decline of viewers for the ratings period.  GH lost  -57,000 in the total viewers category and also lost  -55,000 viewers in the key 18-49 female demo.  However, the lone ABC still held third place firmly above DAYS with over 2.5 million plus viewers.  Check out the entire picture ratings here via Soap Opera Network.

OK soapers,  did you tune-in to Y&R for the ratings week reflected here?  Is DAYS on an upswing?  Did GH slip a bit because of story?  Let us know your thoughts, as it’s time for you to be our Soap Opera Programming Armchair Quarterback for the week! I have watched days for over 40 years. As of six years ago when James Scott came on I try not to miss a day of days. I love love the ejami pairing. So much chemistry and great acting with Alison and James but I’m so tired if writers giving us bones for ejami to be taken away all the time with rafe. Personally I can’t stand safe together or that story. Not sexy not romantic at all. I strongly believe if NBC writers would do at least a year romance for ejami they would see ratings skyrocket up!! Why will they not pursue that chemistry and love story? If things don’t change soon I will be one viewer to watch y and r again. And not days. I will say on positive note the acting with will Nicole Sami ej has been amazing!

It makes zero sense to go the Safe route. Gary Tomlin likes them, yes. But for the sake of the show, they would be SO much better off if they gave EJami a chance. Hell, even Lumi again. But Safe is by far the least popular of the 3! Going around with them again defies logic and any common or good sense. Are they trying to screw themselves? Sorry Safe fans but when the popular choice, the choice that would bring in bigger numbers, more internet and media chatter and overall more interest is set aside for melba toast, something is really really wrong. Even if they didn’t go full on EJami and just teased them relentlessly, that would still garner WAY more excitement than Sami back with duddly do right.

If DAYS wants to be a 5-star restaurant, and serve only the best quality of the best meals in all the restaurant business, why are they feeding us crackers and cream cheese??

I just don’t get it! I love you DAYS, but what is the matter with you? Why are you TRYING to ruin OUR show???

Agreed. Ejami sparkle together!

I have not watched DOOL even familar with it for over a decade, but I tell you EJ born in February of 1997 and Will Horton born in Nov 1995 oh well it is a soap. LOL!

I wasn’t happy with the new opening but that must be a MAB thing! The story that Sharon would go to jail is so ridiculous! Victor and Nikki deserve every bad fate for the stuff they do to people! Victoria also! Those kids stole a billion dollors from Victor and now they care! Please! Victor married Sharon and ran over to Nikki before the plane engine was cold! victor has a lot of nerve! I also am so tired of any story with Phyllis in it. I would LOVE to see Drucilla come back and run Newman with Sharon

It was horrific what Maria Bell did to poor Sharon! BUT I loved Sharon with the white dress1 I hope Sharon ruines those Newman’s I can’t stand Victor or Nikki

I hope they recast Chelsea fast she is so annoying and boring and Nick belongs with Sharon and Victor and Nikki retire and Phyllis jail for good

Chelsea is annoying because she is too sweet and unbelievable. For a girl who is supposed to be a tough as nail con artist, this transfromation is either an act and she is really conning Adam or the old writers were on a sugar high when they wrote for her. So, this new team will hopefully do something interesting with her or find a way for her to leave the canvas. Victor and Nikki down’t have to retire but they should have them act their age and stop writing for them as if they were still in their thirties. I would not mind if Phyllis did some jail time, they have played that character too much lately, it would be a nice break

Nick and Sharon belong together and Adam needs to be with someone we like not this Chelsea person. Nikki and Victor throw stones but they hurt anyone who get’s involved with them. Phyllis needs to go to jail. If not it is so ridiculous already.

Mary F. OMG you have my LMAO! It is true what u said! I was wondering the same thing about Chelsea. I thought the writers were sucking on laughing gas when they wrote for the Chelsea/Adam love (Cough) story LOL

spoiler just heard Chelsea does loose the baby and Adam returns to Hs old ways YAAAAAAAY

Y&R was good, but I am anxiously anticipating the new regime’s material to start airing on Oct 12th (next Friday). DOOL has been a snooze, have barely beenable to watch. Look forward to Eileen Davidson returning as Kristin DiMera. GH has been really good in my opinion, glad to see the ratings up and steady for that show. B&B has also been good, but alot of the same ol same ol. Will stay tuned in to see what happens with Ridge and the impendng departure of Susan Flannery (Stephanie).

Amen to the new writers1 i pray they finally do right by Sharon she has been through so much this year and the past she is great

I’m also looking forward to seeing what the new writers are going to be bringing to the table for Y&R.

Did GH slip a bit because of story? Yes with that Fake Kate person

I like Connie/Kate, it is lively and different and many others also like Kate/Connie..
There is never ”one” thing that would cause a drop..
Everyone has reasons for what they are doing that week and it may be that it is simply life .
GH is doing very well!!! and the stories are awesome !!

–all the soaps would do better if there were no spoilers–

I agree…………

I would have to say the most boring character is Chelsea.

I totally disagree with Fran Weaver about DOOL. For the last year all we have gotten is EJ rammed down our throats. Why anyone would want any woman, Sami or other, to be with me this man is beyond belief. He is amoral, lies to family, police, kidnaps children, blackmails, and fans are sick of him. Write for the good characters, his dad Stephano is villian enough.

I agree with you, EJ, Sami, Nicole and Rafe are all shown so much, and we need a breather of them. I hope EJ is alone and miserable for awhile. EJami disgusts me as much as EJaylor and EJate did. I am still holdingout for him to reunite with Nicole, however.

I love EJ and Sami. Loved when he saved her life during the Daysaster, loved all the build up leading up to it and now they are ruining the show sticking Sami back with that boring, smug, plaid douchebag who thinks he’s better than everyone else.

In real life I want the boring good guy, but on my SOAPS, I want the exciting bad boy!

Long live EJ Dimera!

The double edge sword for the soap writer is if they pair the couple people want to see together, then what? But if they drag out obstacles and delays viewers grow impatient. So they do what they have been doing bouncing Sami between all her previous loves, so everyone gets a bit of some pairing they like for a bit, and then they take it away. Personally the way Sami keeps changing her mind it is a wonder any of them would want her. But I agree EJ and Sami are the more exciting twosome.

I agree with your comment. Love Ejami but since snoozefest SAFE I have not watched. Ejami just sparkle together. I am hooked on GH and I also love Y and R. I love Victor and Nikki. They rock.

I think EJ deserves someone who loves him back, and Sami has never loved EJ. Those two have done so much bad to each other that they no longer trust each other. I think EJ and Nicole are a better fit, but they need A LOT of time before they even think of reuniting.

I can’t understand why GH ratings dropped some…I enjoy watching it everyday & I am not going to stop watching it….Maybe people are busy with their hecktic schedule..Family stuff…………………Maybe they should tone down the Connie/Kate stuff ??????????????????????? I don’t know I am just guessing on thhis one??? I like where GH has been going lately!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I won’t desert GH.. I will keep on watching!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!1

GH is the best soap, no contest, why the ratings are down at all is a mystery to me and cannot understand how it’s ratings are lower than BB and YR. I used to like BB best but those days are long gone, having said that Friday’s episode was the best in a long time. I really can’t understand what people are complaining about regarding YR, it’s not at its best but it’s far from its worst. DAYS has been pretty good, especially the Will and Sonny scenes.

GH is on fire and its all the take.don’t believe its down.Neilsen is full of crap.It is none stop excitment daily. The show has me watching after a 25 year abscent.

The Y&R and BB are just not all that good to have such high ratings/double than the other soaps ..
Y&R and BB have been ruling in the ratings for numerous years, that is not probable…
I believe their ratings have something to do with them being also shown internationally, is 32 or more countries

-imo both are not as good as GH, no way ..

Try to watch them all as there are only very few left. General Hospital at 49 almost 50 years, is the oldest one now that Guiding Light with about 70 years (on radio 1st) and then on TV and As The World Turns was over 50 years old on TV.. Not sure how long DOOL has been on think it started in 1966. They are the oldest remaining daytime dramas aka soaps left. Y&R started in 1973 and the B&B the baby soap started in 1987. Support them all, please. G&H and Y & R are my 2 favorites and then B&B and DOOL. They all have very talented writers, producers, directors, actors, and all the behind the scenes people. They all need and deserve to work. Watch and support them please!! Thank You

I had to miss GH a few of those days for dr. appts. for a close family member that couldn’t go by themself for serious medical treatments. Unfortunately medical needs come before the remaining daytime dramas! I hope most of them being taken care of will free me for the Daytime drama schedule esp. GH!! Love it

LOVED THE PAST WEEK ON Y&R!!! Great promotion on Sony’s part; and hope it continues as we get closer to the show’s 40th anniversary in March! Congrats to all involved!! This viewer is loving the show and am excited to see what direction they take GC in the next few weeks! 🙂

During the week in question, I was paying very close attention to Y&R. For one thing, I’d heard that the script for the 10,000th episode was going to be horrible. WRONG! It was very well written. Also, I could tell that Josh Griffith (Y&R’s new Head Writer) tweaked Maria’s scripts just tad enough that you could notice it. He really tweaked her scripts this past week (October 1-5). It was very noticeable. The only thing I’m really going to miss after October 23rd is Marcy Rylan as Abby Newman. JFP and JG really shot themselves in the foot by letting her go with the ridiculous excuse that Abby is not germane to the canvas that is Y&R! HUH?! Are you kidding me?! Her snarky comments during Victor’s “funeral” about Sharon were an absolute hoot to listen to. Great comedic timing if you ask me.

I LOVE the revamped Y&R Open sequences, which were supposed to begin airing in July. Guess they wanted to wait until the 10,000th episode to start airing those and it was well worth the wait! Although, they’re going to have to take Michael Grazaidei (Daniel) out of the open sequences soon as he is departing the show on his own terms. He only signed a 6 month contract extension to finish up his storyline (my guess is he will depart Genoa City after his Mom’s attempted murder trial and when Daisy helps clear Paul…………if she ever does……with Heather and Lucy as they say good-bye to their loved ones).

One last comment about Y&R: ONLY 4 MORE DAYS OF MARIA BELL’S SCRIPTS!!! Jill Farren Phelps and Josh Griffith’s stuff starts airing this upcoming Friday, which can’t come soon enough for me!

As for B&B, this past week the show was on FIYAH! Especially after Katie found out what Bill had done and she lands herself in the hospital and ends up giving birth to their son, William “Will” Spencer. We almost lose Katie (and we all know that we weren’t going to lose her) but the nice surprise in this storyline was the return of William DeVry as Storm Spencer telling Katie that it’s not her time to walk with him into the light. Nice touch Brad Bell. Katie will leave town with Will to do some serious thinking about her marriage to Bill (this ushers Heather Tom off canvas for her maternity leave……..which will be short per Heather herself).

Liam continues to be a wet noodle flip flopping everywhere (yawn, snooze, snore).

Now that Brooke is back sans Ridge, it’s going to be interesting to see what Brooke says about why Ridge never returned and obviously, their marriage is pretty much over already.

The power struggle at Forrester Creations kicks into high gear as we had Brooke hyperventilating badly when talking to Katie and Rick is in some bushes after being thrown out of the Forrester Creations CEO office via a window, thanks to Thomas. Things are gonna get interesting on B&B in the weeks to come.

Now for the last show that I watch, Days. All I can say is that it was a ho hum week. The show’s writers and production team need to wake up before Sony and NBC pull the plug on the show. Oh wait, they can’t. Days is on the air for another two years. Wake me up when the snoozefest that is Days starts getting interesting again……I won’ t have to wait long though since Eileen Davidson returns as Kristen Blake on Thursday, October 11th.

‘Nuff said!

You were so right about Days. Recently a relative missed a show last week and asked me what happened and I couldn’t remember the show. I watched it, but I had no recollection of what happened; that’s how unmemorable the show has been. Didn’t know they were safe for two years, could explain why they aren’t trying as hard as the other soaps to improve storylines. Hopefully the return of Kristen and Stefano will liven up Salem. Also looking forward to the human interest storyline of Caroline heading into dementia.

IMO, GH is a hot mess and getting worse. Stories involving the returning vets are dragged out with weeks or months in between appearances. The couples’ fan bases are being crushed by what is supposed to be teasing, but winds up being taunting, or couple destruction. Family relationships are non-existent, as are all the friendships. As a fan of this show for over four decades, I’ve found little to nothing worth investing an hour of time on GH for months now. So I’ve done what so many of the fans of Cartini suggested and stopped watching. Maybe I’m not alone, and that’s why the ratings are falling. I watch Y&R, B&B and will pick up Days again when Greg Vaughn starts appearing, but I won’t be watching GH.

I’d like to see Blair back for Todd, Jax back for Carly, Laura back for Luke, Robert and Holly return with “their son” Ethan, and Duke with Anna. Maybe a few of my wishes will come true, but if they go with Todd/Carly, I’m out. For good.

That’s exactly right. The ones who say they think GH is wonderful now are actually in the minority and that’s why it’s viewing numbers are falling. Since when does “I like what they’re doing” translate into ‘so everybody else must be liking it too”? It’s obvious that they’re not doing enough to get a majority of liking it.

They’ve switched up all the players from before and put their own favorites in there and they don’t seem to realize that in doing that, they’ve cut off several fan bases that have watched for their favorites for years. The S&B fans, the S&C fans, the Carjax fans, the Corinthos family fans, the Liz fans etc, have been pushed aside to cater to Kate/Connie and the OLTL fans.

That’s a big switch to take and IMO, they’re not liking the change.

I am a OLTL fan.. And I like GH storylines…Been watching GH again since OLTL was cancelled………………..GH has my interest !!!!!!!! My favorites are still on and haven’t been cut-off yet…….This soap fan is happy with GH……

Of my many problems with GH (Todd eating the show alive; the fact that Cartooni has only 5 different soap plots that they’ve been recycling for years; etc.), the worst for me is that you know exactly. what’s. going. to. happen. about 5 weeks before it happens. Yes, in the old days you knew that the Cassidine’s would be stopped, but you didn’t know HOW. Now, the plots are SOOOO obvious (did ANYONE not see that stupid baby swap coming?) that there is no point in watching.

Poisoned water? Gee, I hope Jerry doesn’t get away with it. I wonder if we’ll actually see him die, or if he’ll “disappear” so we don’t know???!!! Please…give me a break.

Well I will still be watching GH…..Never watched the other soaps on the other networks…………

Y&R was very good. Can’t wait till the new material starts airing. Also enjoyed Days.

I have been watching every minute of #GH. This last week did not have enough Todd Manning for my taste, but I have really been enjoying the show!

I can abide by one more minute of this Kate/Connie DID story. When I know Kate/Connie will be on, I don’t bother tuning in.

This DID story has been dragging on for too long and it’s dragging the ratings down. It’s not nearly the quality of the OLTL DID stories–which treated DID as a real mental illness and was acted so well by Erika Slezak and Bree Williamson. The GH DID story is campy and OTT (not appropriate for a story about mental illness) and has not been well acted or well written.

I, for one, cannot wait for the story to be over and the characters gone!

I’m dreading the fallout… with Tea… She’s such a formidable woman… and talent. I never watched her on OLTL… and I’m smitten… She ooh la la’s… IMO. What man wouldn’t be taken with her.

I’m watching DWTS… as i read all the posts…. and Kelly Monaco… is HOT! she just got all 9’s!

I might be in the minority, on this… but, I like Joe, Jr. with Tracy. it intrigues me.. how she always falls for the wrong MEN! perhaps… with the passing of daddy… and it comes to our screen… the writers can delve in to Tracy’s inner psyche’. show her in a depression… act out… she her in a serious vulnerable state… why she ticks the way she does.

I was horrified with the “connie” and Trey story… till i realized it wasn’t Kate… Trey was convincingly vulnerable, scared, and confused… when he and “connie” were pulling at his necklace…. it should be fodder for some serious drama for the emotional reunion… of mother and son.

I didn’t like the way…. elizabeth “lied” to get Jason…. and how Sam almost hooked up with Mc’Bain… i thought it was a let down… for Sam and Mcbain… and Sam and Jason fans… to cheer for their favorite couple…. it should have been real and genuine… Jason… simply acknowledging… who his true love is…. nevertheless… i’m going to lose it… for a bit… when Sam finally gets her child.

as, for Johnny and connie/Carly…. his being “married” to Connie… I don’t like it…. course, i don’t know if, even IMO… he can be redeemed… and that’s what has me watching… for the comupance… and or redemption… of Johnny…. thus far… i don’t see how he can be “let’ off the hook… with him and connie being married… they can’t testify against each other? thereby living with what they’ve done… forever, not moving on… and/or getting over?

i have to acknowledge… GH is more interesting, than my fav DAYS… however, i’m holding out hope.. that kristen, stefano, and Eric brady will re-invigorate DOOL.

Glad to see Days is doing better, and its because the show is picking up pace. I love seeing Will and Sonny together, they just light up my screen, as do Sami and Rafe. Nicole’s storyline is so sad right now, I hope she and Eric have some good scenes. I am liking Gabi and Nick a lot, they mesh really well together. Kristen and Stefano coming back should bring ratings even higher, as well as Eric. I just hope we can see the DiMera brothers, EJ and Chad, go away. They’re so annoying. Why does EJ always go after a woman that doesn’t love him? And Chad being a bad boy is just wrong. I don’t understand how Y&R and B&B are still on. They’re boring and show the same thing every day!

Days Of Our Lives

Wally Kurth Talks on His DAYS Daytime Emmy Nomination, His Emotional Scenes, and Remembering John Aniston

During our 2023 year-end honors at Michael Fairman TV, we named Wally Kurth as our pick for Best Overall Performance by an Actor for his double-turn as both Ned Quartermaine on General Hospital and as Justin Kiriakis on Days of our Lives. So, it was absolutely no surprise to us that Wally landed a Daytime Emmy nomination for his riveting work as a grieving Justin in the Supporting Actor category for the upcoming 51st annual Daytime Emmy Awards.

On DAYS, Justin had been put through the emotional wringer, of first, losing his beloved Uncle Vic, played by the late John Aniston, and then finding out that Victor was the supposed biological father to Justin’s son, Alex (Rob Scott Wilson). If you didn’t reach for the hankies during some of Kurth’s work in these scenes, we don’t know what will make you do so.

Michael Fairman TV caught up with Wally to get his reaction to his fourth Daytime Emmy nomination in the last six years. Kurth was nominated in the Supporting category in 2018, 2020 and now 2024 and Lead Actor in 2021.

In addition, Wally shares what scenes were on his nominated reel, how John Aniston impacted his work, how he has changed as an actor over the years with a new outlook, and being the only actor out there with two long-running roles on two long-running soaps, and much more. Here’s what Wally had to share below.

Congratulations on your well-deserved nomination. You decided to submit yourself this year for Emmy contention in both Lead Actor for GH and Supporting Actor at DAYS, correct?

WALLY: I did. I thought the DAYS reel was a little more dramatic, much more emotional. I had thought with the way the judging goes that it might be a little bit more, winnable, if you will. I enjoyed and was proud of my work at General Hospital, so it’s all good. I’m thrilled. It’s always nice to be nominated.

Photo: JPI

What scenes did you ultimately choose for your Supporting Actor reel?

WALLY: I started chronologically, as always, trying to tell a little bit of a story. I actually started with a scene where Justin has to tell Maggie (Suzanne Rogers) that Victor’s (the late John Aniston) plane went down and it was not found. Then, the scene with Bonnie (Judi Evans) where I sort of have to let it all out, and grieve the loss of this man who was practically Justin’s father, but it was his Uncle Vic. We have a little scene talking about Victor, and then there is a short snippet at the funeral where Justin eulogizes Victor. Next, we jump to scene where Justin discovers the letter where Angelica admits that indeed Victor is Alex’s father (Rob Scott Wilson). So then, Justin has to tell Alex, and then I also sort of grieve the fact that I’m no longer his father. Justin basically lost his son. It was very dramatic and very emotional. I was guessing the judges would be like, “Hey! Enough with the crying! Stop, you big baby!” But, they didn’t. They must have thought that it was convincing enough that it felt really truthful at how Justin was upset about these two unfortunate realizations.

Photo: JPI

You bring up a really good point. I talk to actors all the time about crying on Emmy reels. Sometimes, many feel it might put voters off. But obviously, this time it worked well for you!

WALLY:  What I liked about the crying scenes was that, like in real life, you’re not crying all the time when something bad is happening, right? I think crying happens and it takes you off guard. It happens without you realizing it. These were all moments when Justin was alone, really. Bonnie comes in the room where Justin is just kind of like dealing with it. And then her coming in, opens up Justin and she is there to hold him. I think that often happens in real life. I thought that was correct for the writers to do that, you know, that Justin would break down when he was alone.

Photo: JPI

Did you feel the pressure of wanting to get these scenes when Victor died and at his memorial, just right due to the enormity to it, and to do justice for John Aniston?

WALLY: I allowed myself to use my heartbreak over John Aniston. I loved him. I just sort of allowed his presence for me in the scenes. It was sweet. It was good for me. I’m just thinking about it now and I feel teary-eyed. John was such a sweet man. He led by example, and he really did teach me how to be a professional actor, and he was a mentor. He never told me anything specific, but he was just John, and in the scenes, this was the time for me tell him how I feel.

Photo: JPI

Then, you had the heartbreaking scenes with Rob Scott Wilson where Justin tells Alex he is not his father!

WALLY:  I thought that was just really challenging material. As I get older, I just trust the material, and don’t get ahead of myself. I trust myself with the emotion. Just let it happen if it happens. When I first read it, I kind of imagined what it could look like and then you just let it unfold from there.

You’ve got Robert Gossett (Marshall, GH), A Martinez (Nardo, The Bay), Mike Manning (Caleb, The Bay), and Bryton James (Devon, Y&R) all in your category. Robert has won two Daytime Emmys in a row, last year for Supporting Actor and the year before for Guest Performer.

WALLY:  l love Robert. I worked with the character Marshall on General Hospital, and we had so much fun. He’s a great guy and a really good actor. A Martinez is the best guy ever. I have such admiration for him. Whenever I see him, we always really connect and to be in included with him is great. Bryton James, I don’t know, but I know he beat me in this category in 2020. Mike Manning, I didn’t get the opportunity to know when he was at DAYS as he weren’t in scenes together, but I hear good things about him, too.

Photo: JPI

When you are judging Emmy reels, what do you look for when you’re voting on a performance?

WALLY: That’s a really great question. And because let’s face it, there’s just a lot of terrific talent in daytime. This year, I judged two categories. I don’t just go with, “Okay, who’s crying the most.” I really try to go with the one who’s touches me the most, who surprises me and moves me. And so, if you go with that, you’re probably going in the right direction. I also think that upfront you do need to kind of give them something in the first couple minutes that shows you know what you’re doing and don’t make it too repetitive.

Who did you first tell you were nominated?

WALLY: My manager, Michael Bruno called me. I was in Chicago with my daughters having a late breakfast and I knew the nominations were going to happen around 11 am Chicago time. I didn’t tell my daughters about what was happening, just in case, I didn’t get nominated. So, when Michael called, I went, “Oh, boy!” I told my daughters who were sitting at the table with me. So, they were the first two people that I could tell, and that was really nice.  We had champagne which was really funny because I bought three little glasses of champagne, and as soon as I bought it, we toasted. They said, “We don’t really like champagne.” So, I ended up drinking all three glasses. (Laughs)

Photo: JPI

What do you think of Eric Martsolf (Brady), your Day Players Band member, and DAYS co-star getting a Lead Actor nomination?

WALLY: I remember, I was like talking to him and I was like, “Eric, are you going to submit yourself?” And he is like, “I don’t know. I don’t really have anything …” And the next thing you know, he’s nominated. I’m like, “Wow! I guess he found something!” (Laughs) I love Eric. I have such respect for him and his gift, and he works really hard. So, I was very happy for him. I’m glad we weren’t in the same category, however.

How many years now have you been playing Justin on DAYS?

WALLY: I started here 37 years ago in 1987. I was there for four years and then I left. Then, 18 years later, Ken Corday (EP, DAYS) invited me back in 2009 and I’ve been on the show now for 15 years. So, I guess a total of 20 years on and off over the last 37 years. Everyone remembers 1987-1991 … those were big, big years for Justin and Adrienne who back then were a supercouple.

Photo: JPI

Have you determined who you would thank in your acceptance speech if you win this year’s Supporting Actor Daytime Emmy?

WALLY: I feel like this year I kind of have an idea of what I would say. I think I can remember all of that without writing it down. If I had gotten nominated for both shows, I was definitely going to point out and thank the powers-that-be for giving me dual citizenship and how much I appreciate that. I do think that being on both soaps, I will go to my grave believing that it’s made me a better actor. In fact, since I’ve been doing both shows, I’ve been nominated for Daytime Emmys. I’ve become a better actor. I feel like maybe it’s just that I’ve gotten older and wiser, but I feel as though when I go in there to work, I’m really focused and I’m really prepared. I know I pretty much get one shot to get it. We’re in the business of “one takes” now in the soaps.

People are so lucky to even have one enduring role in their careers, but you’ve been able to have two, and they’re completely separate characters on two legacy shows; one which just turned 61, General Hospital, and the other Days of our Lives which will soon celebrate 60 years, as well.

WALLY: I didn’t plan on it. I must have done something right. Back in 2009, Ken called me up and invited me back to DAYS. I really jumped in. I’d been out of work for four or five years. I went back with a whole new attitude about the work, about the genre.  In 2004, when I left General Hospital, I was kind of burnt out. Looking back on it, I didn’t have a good attitude and I was just done. I was kind of tired. New writers come in and sometimes, when you have new writers that look at your character differently, it can be very difficult, because you just know that their passion is not with your character. However, in this case, I’m like, “I’m going to take whatever the writers give me and do the best I can and do my job. Let the writers do their job.” I think the writers also know that I really respect them and I’m not going to complain. I’m not going to tell them what to do and I’m going to stay out of it. They have enough to work out. They have enough to do. I’m going to be the problem solver, not the problem creator. There are enough problem creators. Believe me when I tell you that every time I leave those sets, I’m like, “Thank you. I love it.  See you the next time I see you.” I know how lucky I am to do both shows and to have this opportunity to act at my age and still be sent scripts. I love the art of acting. I’d do it for free. The fact that they’re paying me and I am able to do this and work with these great, wonderful, talented actors every day, it’s kind of mind-blowing.

Lisa Rinna Would Be Down to Reprise Her Role of Taylor McBride in ‘Melrose Place’ Reboot

When Lisa Rinna departed her popular role of Billie Reed on Days of our Lives back in 1995, her next major role would be a jump to primetime and the soapy Melrose Place.

In 1996, Lisa was introduced as new character Taylor McBride and stayed with the Fox young adult sudser for three seasons. Now in 2024, with the recent reveal that a Melrose Place revival is the works with Heather Locklear, Daphne Zuniga and Laura Leighton all on board to reprise their signature roles, would Rinna board the project should it come to fruition?

Speaking with PEOPLE, Rinna expressed, “Well, gosh, I’ve heard about it. I haven’t been approached or anything, but I would love to see what Taylor McBride is up to 25 years later. Wouldn’t that be something?”

OG Melrose Place fans know that in story, Taylor moved to the Melrose Place apartment building with her husband Kyle played by Rob Estes. However, Taylor had her eye on Dr. Peter Burns played by former GH star Jack Wagner (ex-Frisco). But, by the time she had moved to the apartment complex, Peter had married tough as nails ad executive, Amanda Woodward, played by Heather Locklear.

Recalling her time on Melrose Place, Rinna added that it, “was one of my greatest and most fun acting experiences, playing Taylor and working with Heather and the whole crew.”  Rinna also noted, “So if they need a Taylor McBride appearance, they know who to call. I’m around.”

The new Melrose Place is in development at CBS Studios. In the premise of the reboot, the Melrose Place residents reunite after the death of one of their friends, “but the pressure cooker of a reunion soon uncovers old traumas, rekindles old romances, reignites old resentments, and reveals new secrets… throwing our characters into chaotic drama that’s reminiscent of the past, but with a much more modern perspective.”

Kristian Alfonso Returns to Days of our Lives for Tribute to The Late Bill Hayes

After a few weeks of Days of our Lives fans being upset that Kristian Alfonso (Hope Williams) was not on the first list of initial returns for Doug Williams’ funeral and episodes honoring his portrayer, the late Bill Hayes, comes word that the popular star is back and taping scenes.

Kristian reported to work on the Peacock streaming soap opera on Monday, April 22nd. She shared how important it is for her to be back for this particular return to the show that made her a household name.

“My return is very bittersweet,” Alfonso told TV Insider,  “because it is the end of an era with Bill gone. So to return to Days is very sad. I am appreciative that they came to me to include me in their series of shows honoring Doug and I’m very happy to see everyone, but I’m entering the studio with a heavy heart.”

It was back in 1983 that Kristian first debuted as Doug’s daughter, and now 41 years later looking back at it, and her time with Bill Hayes is very emotional for her.

“I remember my first scenes with him/ He was very loving, very welcoming. That he was very talented and an incredible actor and an icon, that all goes without saying, but my personal relationship and my working relationship with Bill, it was home,” expressed Alfonso. “Doing the scenes with Bill, I felt like I was with my dad because there was so much warmth and reality.”

Alfonso did express some deep regret, in that she had wanted to work with Bill Hayes during her last appearance on the soap back in 2023, but according to the iconic actress, there was something in the works but it never materialized.  “I’m sad that I did not get the opportunity to do the storyline that Ron (Carlivati, head writer) had planned/ It was great; we returned to Salem to reunite with our families and I would have had father/daughter scenes with Billy. What Ron had written was beautiful and emotional and it was a fantastic story. I was 100 percent for it and the fans would have loved it.”

As for if Bo (Peter Reckell) and Hope will be back on-screen together anytime soon, Kristian would only say, “What I will say is don’t give up hope.” Doug’s passing and memorial episodes will stream later this year come late November into December.
