Sean Kanan OUT at The Young and the Restless!

After Deacon Sharpe came back into the Genoa City bigger picture last week,  blackmailing a boozing Nikki into marriage with big secrets about the murder of Diane Jenkins, and whisking her off to Vegas for a shotgun wedding, word today from actor, Sean Kanan (Deacon) is that he has been let-go by The Young and the Restless!

Kanan, tweeted the news offering to his fans and followers the inside scoop, stating, “Well, it’s just two weeks before Xmas and the powers-that- be have just let me know that I will be gone from Genoa City in five more shows. Merry Xmas.  Thank you all for your kindness and support. Not sure what the future has in store for me but as long as I have Michele and my family I’m ok. Playing the “villain” is not easy.  Supposedly I will be coming back. Let’s hope soaps still around then. Guess I can finish my next book.”

There is no official word as to when Kanan’s final airdate will be, but this is another head-scratcher!

Just as the story was getting juicy, they send Kanan packing?  Let us know your thoughts!

So happy Deacon is leaving the show! Although I know this is a soap and should be drama-filled, I don’t like him blackmailing Nicki and holding her and Victor apart. Good riddens, Deacon!

True.. He is really corny with Nikki. They could have given him a better role than that. He was better back in the Amber days.

Hallelujah !

Recast? I cannot imagine, but maybe there is a new direction for the character requiring a new look or older actor? I cannot imagine this new plot line would wrap so quickly as it seems to have set so much else in motion. I have always enjoyed Sean Kanan in daytime drama and wish him the best in his career. I beleive Y&R does need to clean house but I wish it was not at the expense of someone outside the core families, some members of which are growing very tired in my book.

I am so glad Deacon is leaving. I have been watching this show from the beginning. Victor and Nikki belong together. Please hurry up and put this family back together and get rid of Adam. I can’t stand him. You allow him to continue to do things and never get caught. Mr. Bell always wrote very realistic themes for this program.. Good ridden Deacon and I pray Adam is next.

Because Victor is better ? LMAOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO
Adam and Deacon are fun characters, they are needed otherwise this show would be boring, nobody would watch (except you i guess) ratings would be worse than they are and bam cancellation !!
By the way Adam is more grey than a full-blown villian..he is complex, and the actor playing him has chemistry with everybody, rocks all his scenes.
As for Deacon it is such a shame that he is leaving, he was very fun with Nikki the drunk and with all his interactions, just a light, player, funny character..you will be missed by many Sean as well as your character Deacon Sharp !!
Hope to see you soon coming back on some soaps, even again Y&R but i guess they needed someone to take the fall about the Diane murder story..

they should have never brought him back if he wasn’t staying in genoa city……………..sean is a great actor…………………smh

GH is waiting for you my dear!!! Bring back A.J.!!!

I’ll second that.

During the love triangle thing with Keisha back in 1993, Kanan looked so much like Steve Burton that I actually thought they were brothers in real life.

I thought from the start that he killed Diane. Now with him leaving, I wonder if he did. I know the nutbag that loves Jack is back, but I always suspected Deacon. Of course, he’s probably just going back to Bold and Beautiful.

I am heartbroken over this. I love Sean Kanan and I love to hate Deacon! What a waste!

Good…………..

Sean plays the grease ball too well. I also thought he killed Diane. Now by marrying NIkki , she can’t tetify on him nor can he testify agaist her. With him leavibg maybe that case will be over. It’s gone on far too long. So where does that leave Patty? She still has motive and her obsession with Jack. Did she do it? I really am thinking I don’t care anymore.

I liked him as AJ…. too bad GH killed off most of the Quartermaines. I hope web dramas start bringing in some real revenue. That would open up more doors for actors like Sean. The sad truth is there are so many beloved soap actors out there and only so many parts.

I was very surprised that Y&R decided to can Sean. Sean plays smarmy and sleazy characters so well. I remember the first time I saw him acting at all and that was in the Ralph Maccio movie, “The Karate Kid”. Ever since then, seeing him on B&B and then Y&R has been a real treat. I have Sean on my list of those that I follow on twitter and needless to say, I was shocked he was let go and let him know that I will miss him on Y&R but thought he should go back to B&B as his TV daughter on B&B, Hope Logan could use some fatherly advice, whatever that advice may be.

Bring him back to LA and I don’t think he killed Dianne it is probably Patty but this is another story that MAB has no direction. One favor please Deacon slap Nikki sober a drunk Nikki has run its course. I know shame on me for violence but I am tired of this is this why we MTS back?

Correction is this why we brought MTS back to the canvas?

I LOVE when Nikki plays drunk. She’s such a versatile actress. We get to see so many more facets to her than just Victors’ been-there-done-that current/ex/current wife drinking tea with Katherine. Loving Y&R right now, and am now suprised Deacon’s character is going. Story lines always gravitate back to the core…. he’s just the latest in a very long line. Wishing Sean luck with his future plans; he’s a great actor and I loved his book!

Apparently, SK just announced (via Twitter) that MAB had a change of heart and will be bringing him back to Y&R in the spring.

Was that sort of like: “Fans hate Deacon because of the things he has done and continues to do. We need to respect our fans and boost our ratings.” And then: “Ooops. Nevermind the fans and those pesky ratings.” ??

Whatever..eyeroll his character drive stories..of course he draw ratings not the other way around, drama are the core of soaps for pete’s sake. Goodie goodie, one-dimensional, happy go lucky characters and couples doesn’t draw ratings at all, people can complain on internet boards (vast minority by the way of REAL audience) but when the nice people/couples have noting to do than having sex, or tell each other how ‘amazing’ how ‘happy’ they are audience doesn’t watch because it is BORING !

I thought about this last night when I was watching Y&R. We shouldn’t know this. The story is kind of ruined now, the ending given away. Katherine’s trying to run him out of town, now we know she’ll be successful, and we know he’ll be back….. In the old days, we knew absolutely nothing until it happened. Too much tweeting….

Nah. It’s a (temporary, if he will be back in the spring) light at the end of very dark and tired tunnel. I have accepted the fact that Adam is a legacy character and probably is here to stay but Deacon still being on the once classy standard that was Y&R is beyond disgusting and so out of place. Much like the whole Angelo scenario. With so many great suspense novels out there, I just don’t understand why the writers continue to come up with stale stories. There is absolutely no need for characters like Deacon or Angelo on Y&R. But what do I know? I was just a from day one loyal viewer until several months ago when all the character assassinations at the hands of Adam and Deacon began. Pfffft.

You really should hang in there….. only a fan like yourself would realize that things always gravitate back to the core…. Deacon and Angelo WILL be gone sooner than later…. of that we can be sure. There will be others after them (Mary Jo Mason, or Cameron Kirstin, anyone?) but I always tune in to see awesome scenes between legacy characters such as Nikki’s drunken rampage toward Sharon on Wednesday’s episode……. so freaking funny and amazing!!!

Without them there is NO story and yep Adam Newman is a legacy character, a complex lead character, real successor of Victor..what do you want ? Nicholas ? Ha ha the guy is bland and only is good about ONE thing : having sex with every girls in his way..wow how exiting..NOT

kalamaty there is no reply button on your comment. Thank you. Deacon has been on Y&R too long. SK may be a super nice guy but Deacon is not. I will never understand how they can make characters so deplorable and expect us to accept their continued presence just because the actors who portray them are nice guys… The writers don’t have the respect for the fans that they used to and I think that has been showing in the ratings for quite a while. And still they do not take their target audience’s comments to heart. And it does not help when the actors make comments about the viewers’ disdain for their characters. At all. SK and MM have both done that.

I totally respect your comment, but I should point out that Y&R’s writing team won a very big award at the Emmy’s earlier this year and they’re also up for WGA awards coming up. Ratings ebb and flow with every show, but Y&R always stays ahead of the pack by a HUGE margin. Am I always pleased with the direction the writing goes in? Not hardlly (Sophia and Neil…. YAWN!) but most of the cast are really wonderful performers and can take not so great material and put a real shine on it. I love my favorite show!! 🙂

ditto. If people didn’t feel the way they do about deacon it would illustrate that he wasn’t a good actor, but he and Adam are the best actors in the whole series. Just look at the reation they bring forth.

JJ

totally agree JJ, actors and their characters are effective to provoke reactions, bad or good, or both..that is ‘GOOD’ work, when people don’t speak, debate about them that is when they fail..so obvious.
