SONY on the prowl to pick up AMC & OLTL stars for DAYS & Y&R!

Sony Pictures Television President, Steve Mosko is looking to bring some of the top tier talent from the just canceled All My Children and One Life to Live over to the Sony soaps, NBC’s Days of our Lives and CBS’s The Young and the Restless.

Reportedly from Deadline.com names being bantered about include: AMC’s Debbi Morgan (Angie) and Jacob Young (JR) and OLTL’s Gina Tognoni (Kelly) and Josh Kelly (Cutter).

Here is what they heard, “When the AMC and OLTL‘s cancellations were made official earlier this month, Mosko sprung into action, starting consultations with his top daytime executive Steve Kent and Days co-creator/exec producer Ken Corday and Y&R co-creator/exec producer Bill Bell about which actors  from the departing ABC shows would strengthen the talent roster on the two soaps.

There had been speculation that another network might step in to rescue the shows, including rumors about interest by NBC in OLTL as a companion to Days. But, given the financial challenges the two shows faced on ABC amidst declining ratings, finding a buyer would be a daunting task. So fans of AMC and OLTL shows may have to settle for a consolation price — getting to keep some of their favorite stars in daytime.”

Who could you see Josh Kelly or Gina Tognoni as on DAYS or Y&R? What about Morgan and Young? Let us know.

I would love to see Debbie Morgan on either soap. Please make this happen Sony Execs.

I would love to see the great talent of amc and oltl on days or y&r.

I hope they all get work, but Debbie and Tina are my fav’s, would love to see them on DOOL or Y&R.

I meant Gina (kelly).

I would love to see all the soap stars once again. If not on all my children or OLTL then please, put them all on the other ones.

I would LOVE LOVE LOVE to see Jacob on Y & R!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I say go with the daunting task of another network picking up the shows. They are worth saving and rejuvenating. With the right people writing and producing these shows once again, they will survive. There is endless potential if TPTB will get their heads out of their rearends and start doing their jobs … creating! Quit selling out!!

I agree. Other soaps and shows have changed networks and continued for years. These shows come with a fan base and Sony cna distribute the shows internationally.

debbi morgan & jacob young would be awesome addition to y&r……

Jacob Young, Gina Tognoni, Rebecca Buddig and Daniel Cosgrove to DOOL or BB or YR. I’ll watch BB n YR if either one is on.

I hope they snatch some of the actors from these shows to bring on to Y&R and/or Days! There are a lot more than those 4 names mentioned that would be great additions. I would love to see Farah Fath (GiGi) back on Days as MiMi. She was a fan favorite there for a number of years. I would like to see Jacob Young on either soap. I really, really love Lindsay Hartley and was so angry when they killed her character off on Days – I would love to see her pop up on Y&R!

I love Mimi also but was no fan of Lindsays Arianna as she was getting too close to EJ and Sami is the only women for EJ

Robert S. Woods was on DOOL for a short time back in the ’80s,it’d be awesome to see him back. Bree Williamson would make an awesome Belle Brady Brady recast and Robin Strasser would give Lauren Koslow and Louise Sorel a run for thier money in the bitch department.

Susan Lucci & Alicia Minshew should DEFINTELY consider Y&R so that they can reunite with Eden Riegel.

I would rather see our soaps live on!!! Keep hope alive and keep looking for other options, and there are other options!!

That is wonderful for the actors but I love AMC and all its story lines. I hope someone buys the whole story or I probably wont be watching. Watched AMC for 35 years dont want to start another. Loyal to the end, AMC or bust!

I’M WITH YOU ALL THE WAY!!!

The word on the inside is that Sony is buying the rights to All My Children and One Life to Live. This part about them putting the actors on Days and Y&R is how they are explaining why they have been negotiating with the actors. They want to get the most popular fan favorites on contract first before anything else goes thru. NBC is going to air the shows in daytime and on Comcast online. There you go. Sony is planning on making AMC and OLTL more viable by marketing them in a package with the other Sony soaps overseas.

Even if our shows go to half hour format, so long as the story lines survive. I would hate to see the cast split up, but would watch Rebecca Budig in anything.

Many of us have been fans for 40 yrs. I think it’s pretty evident we luv our soaps! Polls should start acknowledging that the over 39 count too. Advertisers do you really not care about our business?

Not only is ABC going to loose us for the time slot but for all the shows we won’t be seeing that were advertised during our soaps. Anyone that picks up AMC and OLTL WINNING!!!

I AGREE! ABC WILL LOSE ME AS A VIEWER. I WILL MOVE WITH ANYONE THAT PICKS THEM UP

I would love to see Gina and Josh on Y & R! After ATWT and GL ended, I started watching OLTL because there were so many ex-GL and ex-ATWT folks on there. Now that it’s being canceled, I’m hoping that they get picked up by the other soaps. Gina is one of my favorites from GL and I’m really enjoying Josh. Would love to continue to see them every day!

Rumurs have it that V. Rowell probably isn’t welcome, what about Debbie Morgan as recast as Dru Williams.

Jacob Young as Phillip on Days would be great casting. How about some of the veterans Jerry ver Dorn, Michael Knight, Kassie DePaiva all great actors we tune in to watch every day. Please somebody find a spot for Robin Strasser what would daytime be without her. But if Sony is smart they are already talking to Frank Valentini to come in and save Days before it’s too late.

Please NBC ! Pick up One Life To Live! Many viewers would be watching since NBC would then be considered the “savior” network !

yes..nbc..paleeze pick up these shows..you will be the #1 network!!

Totally! Comcast-NBC will be heroes. My city has “Real Housewives…” before “DOOL”- just put that tacky show on after “Last Call”. NBC could have “OLTL” & “AMC” on for 30 minutes each.

I agree with this as well. In my area I have Reel Housewives then DOOL. Take away Real Housewives and put on 30 min of each AMC and OLTL. Plus it fits into the time slot that AMC is on now. However my first choice would be to keep the shows as is the whole one hour and fit them in during the day. I would also be willing to watch them on the cable network of NBC Comcast if that was more convient to keep the AMC OLTL as there one hour shows. The least option is picking the cast apart and putting them in other story lines. If you are going to pick characters apart make it a one hour show of AMC OLTL characters because the two shows have made refrence to each other for some years. There could be a new name for the town and make up a reason why they all live there together now.

some great ideas flowing there Jennifer. I hope “they” are listening.

NBC has all kinds of crap on in Daytime. They can replace the Housewives reruns and 12 hours of the Today show with these 2 shows. Maybe then they’ll get out of last place.

No I want OLTL & AMC saved by Sony. What is really the truth on the monies.I believe monies can be wroked out.DOOL did it.Fire Susan Lucci and high priced actors.Let the story go on.I am willing to pay 25 or 30 with commericals to see my soaps

I think that the entire soaps of OLTL and AMC need to be picked up. Besides, Frons may be willing to give the right station a deal they can’t refuse! He knows he will have the wrath of the fans till hell freezes over if he doesn’t find a new home for them. Taking bits and pieces of the characters diminshes the family cast of both shows and the characters we have come to know and love.
However, I must say, that I would hate to see such talented people from both these soaps not used in the medium the love should there be no way to save both shows.
I hope both can be saved.

I wouldn’t know I have never watched any other shows but amc,gh and oltl. I really don’t think I could have my heart broken again. once GH goes off the air I will just stop watching daytime tv altogether and will absolutly never watch ABC again they are a pack of liars.

I agree with you AMC all the way or I’m done!

I say take the entire show. OLTL is worth saving. I;d like to see the cast left as a whole rather then picked apart. I love Young & Restless, but I want my OLTL!! A second network is fine with me. They will earn my undying loyalty, cause I am DONE with abc……..my soaps go then so do I!!

As soon as GH is cancelled I would love to see Rebecca Herbst and Steve Burton together on DAYS, Y&R or B&B,

I don’t see NBC or Sony picking up OLTL or AMC given what Oprah and some others have said about the declining viewership and money but I can definitely see Sony going after some of the talented and well known names from the two soaps. Adding them to Days or Y&R will definitely be a plus for both of those shows.

I would love to Gina T. on Y&R as Phyllis’s sister.

I still want to see YR pick up Michael Park. Since Maura West is already on our YR screens, how fantastic if they picked up Michael.

They need to pick up CBS actors 1st from ATWT and GL.

I wouldn’t watch either CBS soap. I find B+B dreadful. YnR is too dryly slow moving for me. It doesn’t have the camp or humor that OLTL has. DOOL could reel me in, but it would have to improve greatly in writing, and some of the terrible actors would have to replaced with OLTL actors.

How did this go from Sony picking off some actors from these dead soaps to Sony picking up both shows? Really? These shows are over and it is about someone trying to find a job. Actually if an opportunity comes up before the shows go off the air, I hope ABC lets the actors leave early to begin their new jobs. I do not begrudge Sony trying to get actors they think can raise their ratings. Some of the selections mentioned though are surprising and telling. Interesting that the supposed stars of these shows are not mentioned (Erika Slezak, Kassie DePaiva, Alicia Minshew). I did not mention Rebecca Buddig and Cameron Mathison because I am sure even Sony knows that at some point Frons will have his two favorites show up in Port Charles for the 1 year it has left on the air. Maybe these picks are a sign that soap execs are over the whole actors soap hopping thing. I mean how many more people can you keep adding to Y&R, Days or GH when they do not write for those currently on canvas. Good luck to the actors and crews of these shows in whatever jobs they find once they go off the air in the next few months and early next year.

I’ve never heard of Sony doing the actor contracts for Days and Y&R. I mean that has always been either Ken Corday or Brad Bell and their predecessors. Sony serves these two shows as it’s package and selling arm, more like technical issues and such. Sony does own it’s own shows though and for them they do the hiring and firing but not for Days and Y&R

i would be happy if actors had jobs as a last resort, however i want oltl and amc! the ratings are not true ratings and if done correctly can explode with true potential! wherever these soaps are is were i will be! I would pay extra but i will not watch just another soap specially if the actors r different. loyal to my soaps!

Erika Slezak should get her own HBO series ala United States of Viki.

I watch Y&R almost daily but I am also a long time fan of AMC and OLTL (27 yrs). I do not watch DOOL or B&B but would if Sony picked up both shows not just the actors (not that I want to see them out of work). I don’t see that picking up the actors is a real solution. NBC or CBS ratings would soar through the roof. I am currently boycotting ABC along with millions except the soaps and will continue to do so. Could be your soap next–look at what happened to GL and ATWT not too long ago. It’s not about the actors–it’s about 40 years of American tradition and having shows that we have too many of shoved down our throats not to mention discrimination . People would feel the same if it was one or all of the remaining ones and I would fight for those to even if I don’t watch them! We should all be supporting one another.

Just have someone buy the show. OLTL has to many talented characters to pick and chose.

I’d like the shows to go to NBC.

I would watch if NBC picked up OLTL, I might even watch their other shows if they saved AMC and OLTL.

I just wish One Life to Live would be bought up in it’s present form

NO I dont want to see them in other soaps, I want them to stay right where they are!

I would love to see Erika Slezak as Bill Spencer’s Mom on B&B. I’d also love to see Debbie Morgan and Darnell Williams as Daisy’s long lost parents. Must not forget , bring back Macy and give Thorne a stinkin storyline. lol!! Finally age Alexandria. Have her fight Steffy for Forrestor and remind her that her Dad is the real Forrestor and Ridge is a Marone.

Just think of the great press NBC would get if they did add OLTL & also AMC. Sure would help heal the open wound made when they cancelled AW…. Just saying.:)

First choice would to have AMC in its entirety moved to another network. After watching it for 41 years, I just want it to be preserved. Second choice…Perhaps a merge of AMC/Pine Valley with another Soap…Maybe Pine Valley gets destroyed by some act of God and all the residents (several cast members) move to the town/soap on another network…Keeping them in their same character roles.
However, if that is not possible, at least hire some of the actors. I’d probably tune in.

I can see debbi morgan as Drucilla on Y&R

I would love to have Farah Fath/Gigi back on Days as Mimi,
but thats all,Days has to many people on there show now,and I wish they would bring Bryan Dattilo back on Days too.

Everybody please keep calling abc and nbc everyday sometimes more then once a day. i have a feeling alot of people on here are not doing this . you must boycott abc all shows including all primetime shows . thats where we can really hurt them, but we must all do this not just say it.

Please america harass the hell out of abc everyday by phone, mail , email. lets even try to have a huge rally outside abc studios . get the other news networks broadcast us on the news, that will really put fronz on the hotseat. nothing like bad public opinion fro

Jacob Young should definitely replace Billy Miller as Billy Abbott. That’s a total no brainer.

Please y&r pick up Michael Easton he is the best soap opera actor on tv. If anyone deserves to go to another show it would be him.

I agree Michael Easton is the only actor I would like to see go to another show. Y& R please hire him.

i would love to see the all my children and one life to live actors on Y&R, B&B, DOOL. I would really like to see Erika Slezak on one of those soaps

I would love to see Sony purchase both All My Children and One Life To Live and have NBC air them. Those shows were making money for ABC. From the outcry you can see that there are MANY viewers. Please leave these actors/actresses together and save these soaps.

I think Gina would do wonderful on Y&R. Michael Easton would be a goooooood cop on Y&R, and J.R. would also make a good Billy. Although I just pray Billy Miller would stay. He is sooooo wonderful. Michael Knight would be somebody great on Y&R. Debbi Morgan would also be an added blessing/as would Darnell. Darnell would do wonderful on Days, as a cop. Please help these people save their jobs~and for us to see them each day. I would miss their faces each day! Just knowing they will not be on and that they are gone is so sad. Also I think Kendall from AMC would be amazing on Y&R! Thank you!

please keep the soaps on some channel

I would love to see Gina continue on the soaps and the others as well. I would also like to see Michael Easton and Thorsten Kaye get roles on those soaps as well. I will really miss OLTL and AMC!

WTF? Screw daytime without soaps. I mean if you were to drop, why OLTL? GH sucks. Even AMC is better than it sometimes. Oh my well I guess I’ll watch CBS whenever I’m home because I hate the view, I don’t care what they have to say. Whats the chew? really?! why?

If nbc picked up OLTL I would be a loyal viewer, if not, sorry it’s not just the stars I care about, but the characters they play, esp on OLTL. I guess I’ll have to relive the past watching youtube. I’m not interested in watching days nor y&r even if they hired abc’s actors to play new characters.

I disagree.

Carol Burnett Talks About Being a Superfan of ‘All My Children’ on ‘Live with Kelly and Mark’

In a heartfelt reunion, of sorts, the one and only Carol Burnett appeared on Monday March 25th episode of Live with Kelly and Mark.

Burnett had first met Kelly Ripa (Hayley) and Mark Consuelos (ex-Mateo) back when they all appeared on All My Children together. Carol played Verla Grubbs first in 1983 and then again in the 90’s.

Host Kelly Ripa (ex-Hayley, AMC) noted to Burnett that “we go back a long time”. She also described Burnett’s character of Verla Grubbs, “extraordinary in every way.”

Carol’s love for All My Children is well-documented, hence legendary soap creator, Agnes Nixon, created the role of Verla for Burnett.

Photo: ABC

Speaking on how her passion for All My Children began, Carol told Kelly and Mark, “It started with my kids. They would watch at noon. I said, ‘What are you guys doing?’ I sat down and I started to watch and I got hooked!”

When Carol’s family decided to travel through Europe during one summer, the comedic legend recalled thinking, “How am I going to last if I don’t know what’s going on in Pine Valley?” She revealed she had a friend, “who sent me a telegram to the (different hotels) on Fridays to bring me up to date.”

In a hilarious moment from the segment, Carol recalled receiving a late night telegram while in Lake Cuomo when there was a knock at her hotel room door from the hotel manager who was shaking.

Carol related what it said, “Erica is still in a coma. Mark slipped again and ran away from rehab.” As Kelly and Mark broke into laughter, Burnett continued, “Chuck has learned that Donna is carrying his baby, who was once a hooker.”

Check out Carol explaining how she became an AMC Superfan below.

Malachy McCourt, ‘Ryan’s Hope’ and ‘All My Children’ Actor, Dead at 92

If you watched Ryan’s Hope through its 14-year-run, you know that Kevin the bartender became a beloved “member’ of the Ryan clan on the defunct ABC daytime drama series. The character of Kevin MacGuiness became so loved by the fans because of the actor who portrayed him, Malachy McCourt.

Sadly, according to his wife Diana McCourt to The New York Times, Malachy passed away on Monday from a heart condition and battling cancer. The actor was 92-years-old.

Playing Kevin on Ryan’s Hope was not much of a stretch for McCourt, because in his lifetime, he was the owner of 1950s Irish pub Malachy’s on Third Avenue in Manhattan. Known as one of the city’s great story-tellers, patrons from longshoremen to the actor Richard Harris would stop in and talk all things Irish with . On Ryan’s Hope, Kevin was best friends to “Ryan’s Bar” owner, Johnny Ryan (Bernie Barrow) and he tried to keep Delia (Ilene Kristen) on the straight and narrow.

Photo: ABC

In his soap opera career, McCourt also was widely-known for his role of Father Clarence McCourt on All My Children especially come Christmastime. Was Clarence, actually St. Nick? That was always the proverbial question. McCourt also appeared on the New York soaps: One Life To Live, Search For Tomorrow and Another World. Other roles included: Devil’s Own, Brewster’s Millions, The Molly Maguires, and Starman, to name

Later in 2006, Malachy ran for governor of the state of New York as a Green Party candidate. He tackled social issues of the time including being an advocate for gay and lesbian groups to march in the annual St. Patrick’s Day Parade.

Photo: ABC

McCourt’s childhood was recounted within his brother Frank McCourt’s Pulitzer Prize-winning memoir Angela’s Ashes, which detailed their mother’s attempt to raise the four of their surviving seven children in poverty in Limerick, Ireland. Later, Malachy wrote his own memoirs: 1998’s Monk Swimming, and 2000’s Singing My Him Song.

Malachy is survived by his aforementioned wife, Diana, daughter Siobhan McCourt; sons Malachy Jr., Conor and Cormac; stepdaughter Nina Galin; nine grandchildren; and one great-grandson.

Share you remembrances and condolences for Malachy McCourt via the comment section, but first check out this scene from a 1983 episode of “Ryan’s Hope” featuring the late actor with Ilene Kristen.
