Susan Lucci to N.Y. Post on Brian Frons: "Yes I blame him for ending AMC, and the viewers do, too!"

Leave it to La Lucci!  In a new piece out from the New York Post,  on Susan’s myriad of new projects, including her role in Marc Cherry’s new soapy nighttime pilot, Devious Maids and as host of Investigation Discovery’s, Deadly Affairs,  Susan offered her thoughts on her career moves and the ending of AMC.  (For those who don’t know, Deadly Affairs will offer reenactments of  crimes of passion committed by real-life Erica Kanes!)

The NY Post asked Lucci about former ABC Daytime executive, Brian Frons and the blood that is still all over his hands from slaying All My Children and One Life to Live.  The question posed to her was:  Does she blame him for Pine Valley cancellation?   Lucci responded, “Yes, I blame him for ending All My Children and the viewers do, too.  But the viewers simply weren’t there anymore. It’s 40 percent cheaper to produce The Chew and The Revolution.

But as sad as it is for Lucci and AMC lovers, the show must go on for Susan’s career and she has been quite the busy women trying all sorts of projects.  She revealed, “I’ve never done a prime-time show, never danced with four sailors before  (in Gloria Estefan’s latest video).  I’ve never done any of these things before.”

So what do you think of Lucci’s comments about Frons? And all of Susan’s new projects? Let us know!

I blame him as well. All of Frons’ predecessors did something to try and improve ABC Daytime but once Frons came into the picture, you could tell he (along with Anne Sweeney) no longer cared. Bad EPs and HWs weren’t fired and when they were, it was too late anyways (i.e. Bob Guza and Jill Farren Phelps). Good talent was fired (i.e. Anna Lee). The writing was on the wall.

i think you should fire frons on bold & beautiful can i ask a favor can i ask if you guys keep steffy away from liam please & thank you he is in love with hope do whatever you cvan to keep liam & hope together

David Larsson, Anna Lee wasn’t fired. She died in real life. (Anna Lee played Lila Quartermaine on GH from 1978 until her death in 2004. I should know. I started watching GH in 1977.)

I’m happy for Susan Lucci. The show must go on!

I sure would love to see those new guys on GH integrate some AMC characters as well. I am a long time viewer of GH only and was cautious about them introducing OLTL characters but I do love Roger Howarth and Michael Easton.

Correction on Anna Lee, in honor of her memory:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Anna_Lee

In later years, she became known to a new generation as the matriarch Lila Quartermaine in General Hospital and Port Charles until her sacking in 2003, which was widely protested in the soap world and among General Hospital actors. According to fellow GH actress Leslie Charleson, Lee was promised a job for life by former GH executive producer Wendy Riche; when Riche left the show, the new management fired Lee. Charleson said in 2007, “The woman was in her 90s. And then when the new powers-that-be took over they fired her, and it broke her heart. It was not necessary.”

Anna Lee did die in real life, but she was in fact fired before her death. Leslie Charleson, a.k.a. Monica Quartermaine from GH, is quoted as saying that she felt the firing of Anna Lee was such a crushing blow to Lee that it likely contributed to her death only a few months later.

Anna Lee was fired at one point. But, viewer and fellow cast member outrage made them bring her back.

From Wikipedia:
“In later years, she became known to a new generation as the matriarch Lila Quartermaine in General Hospital and Port Charles until her sacking in 2003, which was widely protested in the soap world and among General Hospital actors.[1] According to fellow GH actress Leslie Charleson, Lee was promised a job for life by former GH executive producer Wendy Riche; when Riche left the show, the new management fired Lee. Charleson said in 2007, “The woman was in her 90s. And then when the new powers-that-be took over they fired her, and it broke her heart. It was not necessary.”[1]

One of her sons attested that the firing sapped Lee’s will to live. She died not long afterwards of pneumonia. Lee was interred at Westwood Village Memorial Park Cemetery in Los Angeles, California.”

She was fired before her death. It broke her heart.

Anna lee was fired before she died ,Never under stood how tptb at general hospital could do that she was a very important part of the history of port charles (quartermaines),there was no reason to do it ,so many precious characters were killed through the years ,alan, emily, aj, anyway Anna lee was fired and it was wrong, she did die of a broken heart. Susan Lucci, I don’t agree with most of you ,I think what she said was a kick in the ass to the fans who have be fighting daily to protest what abc has done to our soaps , she say the fans werent there anymore, Has she forgotten the soap fans that are fighting every day to bring back the soaps, Even though I have lost all hope in that ,oh thats right she is now in prime time so who cares ,Well I do and I dont like how she dismissed the fans because we are here and we got screwed by abc/disney and I dont think she should have said what she did ,then again she still works for abc ,brian frons was a puppet,he was the messenger for the big wigs at abc/disney.susan, it is cheaper to produce the chew and revolution, but abc lost its class and what about the daytime fans that stood by you and abc since the first day all my children started I was one of them, Seriously I’m very disappointed in what you said, I would have more respect for you if you said brian frons is a ass that killed my beloved soap and I love my abc daytime fans and I hope they follow me to all my new adventures In my future, then left it at that.

Anna Lee did die, but was fired from GH prior to her death. Very sad.

I would be happy of AMC and OLTL came back in 1/2 form, it works for B&B!

David I Have Been Watching Gh Since Day1, They Did Fire Anne lee, and than brought her back just once in awhile.

Isn’t it wonderful to see Micharel Easton talk??? I believe he has spoken more words in his time on GH than he ever had in all the years on OLTL combined. I found it difficult at best to judge his acting abilities while on OLTL because acting involves more than mere presence. Glad he is back and even happier that he gets the chance to showcase his craft.

They should have just cancelled one show. I think the audience would have been able to stomach that more than the carnage that occurred. Those who read my posts already know I was/am for saving ONE LIFE TO LIVE because it emerged in its latest years as abcd’s number one soap. AMC was the logical choice to be cancelled. Having said that it would have been neat to see beloved AMC characters folded into OLTL and GH. Anyway, this article is about Susan, and I am thrilled she is having such a ball post-AMC. She’s a little package with a LOT of class!

From what I’ve heard, ABC’s original plan was to cancel only One Life to Live and to keep All My Children running. The Chew (not The Revolution) was the show that was originally planned to replace OLTL.

AMC and GH were suppose to remain on the ABCD lineup along with newcomer The Chew. But with AMC’s ratings being lower than OLTL, ABC couldn’t justify cancelling OLTL and keeping AMC. So both shows got cancelled. Since the decision to cancel two shows instead of one was made at the last minute, ABC had to rushed a new show. That show became The Revolution. And we all saw what the results have been for that one.

I can’t believe the ratings where so lower for AMC like that with so many fans that watched the soap. like me

It makes no sense, OLTL was higher then GH but they still cancel it? Also I think ABC and Prospect were in together, got the fans hopes up high they say they can’t afford the soaps. why buy them if you don’t have money to produce them? I hear they have until Sept. to find a home for AMC, I bet they aren’t even looking, they should give it back to Agnes and let her find a home.

Not sure I understand the logic there, as ONE LIFE TO LIVE was the network’s number one soap when it was cancelled. With the logic that the network had to justify canceling ONE LIFE TO LIVE, then why wasn’t GH, then, canceled, too? Not sure I’m buying the logic. ONE LIFE TO LIVE should have been the one NOT to be cancelled, with GH and AMC, either one or both, being canceled, instead.

Because GH had higher ratings than OLTL in the 18-49 key women demo at the time of the cancellation.

OLTL surpassed GH in the 18-49 women demo during the summer, when the show had already been cancelled.

I blame Frons too. The drop in viewership is also because of Frons. If he didn’t keep hiring hacks to write the show, the fans wouldn’t have left. Most importantly if Frons didn’t move AMC from NY and had good writing AMC would be where it was in 2009 third. Frons slaughtered the show . The Actors, Crew and fans have suffered for it and Frons gets his golden parachutes.

Totally agree. Frons and Sweeney allowed the soaps to be ruined. Seems to me it was done on purpose as ABC Daytime /Disney no longer wanted soaps as they were not cost effective. They want cheap entertainment.

We are still waiting for ABC to realize the fans are still out there and will return to ABC if the soaps come back!

Good for her. I admire her for speaking her mind. And like the countless of millions who have been laid of in many sectors of the economy the show must go on for Susan. She will always land on her feet she is one tough cookie. That being said the ABC soaps were an outlet and escape for many from the harsh economy and nasty news of the world. I hope Mr. Frons is proud of destroying a wonderful tradition. Thank goodness Dallas is coming back. And no I am not fat, uneducated or a loser because I love soaps.

ABC is dead to me, except for GH. I watch a lot of CBS now. I have been a TV addict since I was a little kid. I don’t care that much anymore; as there are very few shows I care for now. CBS for Mike & Molly, 2 1/2 Men, Rob, Survivor, and Big Brother is all I have left except for GH. I still miss Guilding Light, AMC, OLTL, Brothers and Sisters. Oh, I have stayed with Desparate Housewives which they are forcing off. Of course, because I like it. I miss TV. I miss the anticipation of watching a good program, and talking to friends, and family about it.Yes, I guess I have a boring life, but it didn’t use to feel like it.

She’s right that at least she (and other actors) is getting other work, things they never would have been able to do being contracted on their shows. She has so many things going on, Ron Raines from Guiding Light just got a Tony nomination, etc.

Yes, I blame Frons but the problem is that the viewers WERE there. Simply because someone doesn’t watch from noon to 1:00 doesn’t mean they were watching the show. Thanks to the DVR and soap net, viewers could watch when they wanted to. AND ABC even made that comment a couple of weeks ago. Yeah, now you realize it you idiots. I’ve not watched ONE ABC show since the announcement of the cancellation. Only my AMC and I haven’t seen anything on ABC since nor will I ever. Don’t care what you idiots put on. You do NOT care about your viewers, I don’t care about you. Period! So spin on that.

Ur100% right. More people Dvr Vcr And Watch On soap net As More People Work During The Day

I brought this up in a forum right after they announced the cancellations. If it makes you feel any better, you have company. Other than GH, I don’t and won’t watch ABC anymore. If they cancel GH, I won’ have ANY reason to tune in.

I don’t agree with her statement though, of saying that the viewers weren’t there anymore. I’m sorry, but I turned on my television everyday, at noon and watched AMC and then followed it with OLTL…..even though the stories on AMC went to hell in a hand basket, I was still tuning in to offer up my support. The problem was, the total number of viewers for AMC & OLTL (which was the highest rated ABC soap before it was cancelled) was not enough for the ABC Network. It’s all about lining the execs pockets with more cash. It’s cheaper to produce The Chew & The Revolution, but is it worth it when you lose your entire daytime viewing audience? I know what she meant when she made the statement, but it just didn’t sit exactly well with me. The fans have been there, and are still trying to keep hope alive that our shows will someday return. This is all about ABC/Disney making a bad decision, just so they can add more digits to their bank accounts.

Torrey, you are exactly right in what you say.

Susan, believe that it was Fron fault and yet thinks it because of the decline in fans. Now, Frons had to realize the decrease in fans is the result of more channels.. and Of course we have many TV choices.. This new era of many choices..via internet and satalite, we will still be spread in many directions. If you look at the static now, The cancelled Revolution and hopeful cancellation of Chew has much less fan base and yet ABC paid more out to get fans to revert to Reality and Talk shows. What a wasted of time and money. They already have the audience dedicated to Soaps. Train/hire professional people to do as much of advertising and marketing as they did with horrible talk and reality shows. Soap shows does not need to be costly.. They didn’t back when they had radio.. yet the fan base was once larger then television. You can’t go back to those days. but my point is a good storyline does not need over priced actors. If they don’t want to be a Soap Actor.. Please let them move on and allow our Soap to be our daily story…

It wasn’t just that Frons didn’t support the soaps, he went out of his way to kill them. The ridiculous writing on AMC is why they lost the viewers. I am sure that the stupid plots and writing came at his direction. We were lucky that there was a better team over at OLTL to keep the writing at the high standard we came to expect. Bottom line, Frons was a hired gun. Hired to come in and kill the soaps so Disney could put out this cheap crap and line it’s wallet.

Exactly, it felt like AMC was deliberately being run into the ground. It became unwatchable for me & then when OLTL was cancelled with AMC I was even angrier because I felt like it was AMC’s fault that we lost OLTL-throwing the baby out with the bathwater. OLTL was ON FIRE for the last couple of years-I’ll never forgive them for ripping that show out of my life.

Deborah, You are so right, We lose One life to live and abc/disney gets richer while putting on cheap, talk, news, and self help garbage.Whats sad is we lost the best soap ever for a stupid show that lasted, How many months? Talk about a waste of money. I will boycott abc/disney for the rest of my life, If they kill general hospital, There goes the only hour they get from me.

Love Susan! I’ve been ABCless since April 15, 2011 and I won’t go back! I miss OLTL and AMC so much!

Didn’t Susan Lucci had a recurring role on the original recipe primetime soap “Dallas” back in the 80’s? How come she said that she never done any primetime shows before when she already had quite a few primetime gigs under her belt (i.e. “Hot In Cleveland”, “Army Wives”, and the Lifetime channel X-mas tv movie “Ebbie”, the 90’s female version of the Charles Dickens classic novel “A Christmas Carol”)?

Ms. Lucci was on the last season of Dallas she was responsible for Bobby’s new wife Aprril getting killed. By the time Dallas got cancelled they had written so many people out and it had become just so silly.

Who knows with Susan. She has done so much Primetime, how on earth could she ever forget? Either she is getting old, or trying to draw us in to watch her projects on ABC, nonetheless it won’t work for me.

Its not going to work for me either, I still can not believe she said what she did,the fans arent there anymore, seriously I think she has lost it or she is loosing it, I believe she betrayed the very fans that made her a house hold name, Should life go on for her after All my children ? Yes it should I don’t blame her at all but to say we are not there is not true I e mail abc every day and all my children, One life to life, and General hospital are always the reason I am e mailing abc. So I am here, Shes not.And her prime time remark, Whats that all about? Anyway, good to chat with you again.

Yeah, I am not sure what she is talking about not doing prime time. I guess she has NEVER had a regular role but she had that recurring role on Dallas, been on episodic tv Love boat, Fantasy Island, Fall Guy, So Raven, Hope and Faith, Invitation to Hell, Anastasia, Haunted by her Past, blood on her hands, Mafia Princess, Between Love and Hate, Double Edge, Lady mobster, French Silk, Ebbie, Hot in Cleveland, Army Wives…not bad for a `daytime`star. And I believe she starred in all her movies but Anastasia. All were top twenty shows and usually top ten.

Damn Tristian, you named just about them all. Either she is losing her memory, or she is trying to get us to watch. Notice, however that many of the titles in those shoes in which she starred, were titles that would associate the viewer to watch because it was her tipical Erica Kane vixion, beautiful, powerful, rich character? Please Susan, do something unlike Erica Kane. I’m tired of defending you in this arguement?

The viewers were there for OLTL. Just because it costs 40% less to produce crap doesn’t justify it, unless greed is all that matters. More money can be saved for higher executive salaries and shareholder gains by eliminating employee benefits, health care, and quality programming. The masses are becoming accustomed to accepting less and less to support the rich getting richer.

David your right, But what about the reputation of these networks? They are putting not only low cost programs , but programs that seriously are full of shit, There is nothing special about the show or the hosts that are trying to get us to buy what they are selling,Its all bull.abc, nbc, and cbs were at one time grand ,they stood out ,now its a afternoon of non stop talk, news, food, self help garbage ,My afternoons are so different now I am so lost with out one life to live and all my children and lets face it general hospital is not really safe we have if we are lucky 6 months before the cancel rumors start again.I don’t know I just wish the network big wigs would listen to what us daytime fans want to watch its drama, scripted drama, We are running out of precious time to save the soap opera and I will turn off my television before I give in to the networks Idea of a entertaining afternoon.

Right on Susan Lucci about blaming Brian Frons for cancelling AMC & OLTL…It is all his fault!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I don’t care that the chew % revolution are cheaper to make………….That’s bull to me………….The revolution is cancelled, cheaper to make but they lost money on this one anyway…Cheap or not it failed..And I’m happy it did…………..Next on the chopping block should be The Chew….Another cheap making disaster…. Cheap making: as the saying goes you get what you paid for!!!! Cheaper doesn’t mean better…………….Those were bad choices & bad deceisions…ABC will never learn their lesson…………I never watched The Chew or The Revolution…And I never will !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Brian Frons isn’t very bright…Too much money and he doesn’t know what to do with it !!!!! The soaps made ABC a SUCESS all these years………………They are too dumb to realize this…Or they simply don’t care………….BRIAN FRONS doesn’t know what he was doing…Cancel our soaps..We will cancel abc daytime…For good…If GH doesn’t remain on abc more than one year!!!! And you can take that to the bank!!!

Reputations do not matter to the networks compared to money. Nothing and nobody matter anymore compared to money. Besides, networks think they can manipulate their reputations and viewers with marketing and public relations. The only recourse is to refuse to watch poor quality programming. Nothing will change until enough viewers leave, ratings decrease, and profits decline. What happened to The Revolution should happen to all garbage programming.

barbara t replied May 4th, 2012 at 8:26 am

Its not going to work for me either, I still can not believe she said what she did,the fans arent there anymore, seriously I think she has lost it or she is loosing it,

Damn Barb: Just wanted to say, your typing has gotten so much better. What’s going on? LOL Your coma’s are in place, practically all of them in the response U sent me above. Usually I don’t have to go to the site and see who sent me the response, bc I look for the coma’s BUT this time, the coma’s were practically all in place, and I had to go to the site and see who replied and it was Ms. Barbara t with her coma’s in place, (caught me off guard) playing tricks on me. Great! U don’t give Urself away by that flaw. Good for you. I hope all is well. I miss you. Things been hectic and busy.

PS. You heard from Deb?

Well said David & Barbara.

yes Susan Lucci did make movies on LMN..I saw them……….She is very mixed up………..

I saw them to, I remember supporting her back then, that’s when abc use to advertize their soaps.Who would have ever thought they would get rid of those prized soap operas?I don’t think Susan lucci is thinking with a full deck because she has been on prime time several times.

David your right, but you can have money and self respect ,or at least have respect for you viewers and that goes to all the networks that got rid of all the soaps ,Every soap that was canceled was replaced by trash tv I dont under stand who watches this stuff. All I know is we are running out of soaps .

Well I agree with who is to blame…however the viewers were/are there…Neilson just didn’t count them. They need to expand their demo market and include international viewers.
I will only watch GH on ABC..nothing else..they can’t entice me with anything they have or will offer.

Theresa,I agree with you and I wont watch anything on abc except general hospital, and also agree that the viewers are here fighting to keep daytime soaps alive So I dont know what she is talking about.I really think these stars should THINK before they speak.

Watched a repeat of OLTL today at 8:00am on the soap channel…The episode about Too gettng back his son from Marcie & Michael..Their adopted somn Tommy…………….Nash & Jared were on………And John kissed Marty(not the original actress). And Natalie saw them kissing on the docks…John was the man in black ..Shirt,jacket,pants,soes & socks…Gh the other day he was wearing a purplelish blue shirt,BLUE JEANS, & a black jacket…Line two: about Todd getting back his son…And he did…We know that…Miss OLTL still…….

Read last line of my comments…TODD!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

When our shows were cancelled, there was a LOT of, “Im done with ABC, I’ll watch NOTHING BUT GH, etc.” I have to say I have stuck to my guns and refused to watch anything on ABC with the exception of GH. The most important thing here however is, NOONE ELSE IS EITHER! Congratulations to all of us for sticking to our word. One of the new shows down, one to go. I don’t care what they put on. If it isn’t my AMC and/or OLTL, this loyal viewer is NOT coming back, PERIOD!

I agree, we have called ABC Already Been Cancelled for years we no longer watch any shows they put on except for General Hospital. Way too many shows have been put on that we get interested in only to have them cancelled within a couple of months. It is so frustrating! However is is also liberating to cancel them!!!!

She did do prime-time shows before. Did anyone forget that she was teh woman who caused April’s death on the last season of Dallas? Rember Sheila Foley (AKA Hillary Taylor), Dallas Fans?

who doesn’t remember susan on dallas – i sure do!
i guess she had to say that the viewers weren’t there because after all she is still employed by abc since devious maids is an abc show…

I just wrote about that below in my 1st reponse that got lost. Yes, and I added that she did countless movie of the week Primetime shows, one starring her and Finola Hughs, AS WELL AS, Susan did several Mini Series, like 2 or 3 of them. She must be getting old. I’ve seen Susan all over PrimeTime all my life up until the late….. maybe 1 years, she’s been too busy on the Home Shopping Network. She is either getting old, or telling a tale to get us to watch. But no one on Primetime as much as she should be forgetting. And then Dallas, which she was in serveral PrimeTime episodes.

I guess she’s forgotten.

Just checked IMDB. She was also on Fantasy Island, Love Boat, Fall Guy, Hot in Cleveland (really recent), Hope and Faith, Army Wives (super recent). Maybe she means she’s never been a regular on a primetime show. Don’t know.

Wasnt she in the made for tv movies to ?I think she made a lot of them, So I dont under stand her never in prime time comment. And I do remember the dallas gig, Have to dig out my dallas book, then again I’m here scratching my head once again over her comment of the fans werent there anymore. She must live in the twilight zone or she is forgetting things.

Sorry I did not go far enough down so I repeated what someone had already posted about Dallas! Sorry for the repeat!

General Hospital naps, yup, I was on of those people. Can’t even get around to watching it anymore. But my walls in the house hear it, and on weekends, I’m busy running and reheasing, or dealing with lifes issues. Oh, Susan Lucci, I wrote my 2nd response about her below. 1st got lost. But don’t be so sensitive Barbara, Susan is speaking the truth, it’s just probably how she said it, like ” Oh, well, the viewers weren’t there anymore, and I’ve adjusted since AMC, and I’m doing these things I’ve never done, so tune in”. Remember, this is Erica Kane and Susan Lucci all wrapped up in one. All her roles are tailored like Erica Kane, so expect this from La Lucci. I still love her, the truth is the truth, rather she speaks it or ” I “.

Yes, she was in quite a few TV movies.

I thought it strange about the viewers comment even though I didn’t watch the show.

Yes I blame him too these shows that where sent in to replace shows that have been on the air over 40 years are boring and stupid. If I wanted to watch a cooking show I would turn on the food network. And if I wanted to watch a weight loss show I would turn on one of many that are on cable. Brian Frons screwed up big time. HELLO the REVOLUTION is cancelled already. And then they complain they did’t have the money to pay for them anymore then hire Katie Curic at the tune of Millions of dollars for what OH another boring talk show. ABC needs to wake up bring our shows back and move either Katie or the chew to the old oprah slot at 4 pm. I don’t need to watch 2 Doctor Oz’s a day either.

Go, Susan, Go–Yay! 😀

I blame them all Frons and Sweeney for the butchering of All My Children & One Life To Live. To replace them with cooking shows is crazy why watch cooking on ABC when there are alot of those channels. They runined the best soaps….

They sure did!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I totally agree

I blame Brian all the way. I can spit bullets that they took AMC and OLTL off. lived my Erica and Vicky. I heard The revolution getting canceled. I just glad to see Susan on Army Wife’s. Good move Susan………. I only watch general Hospital. Afternoons are not the same anymore.

meant Love my Erica Kane

You are SO right. Just seeing the words Brian Frons makes me sick to my stomach. I detest that bastard. I miss all of the cancelled soaps-I remember when it was soaps from 11-3 on just about all 3 networks. So many to choose from-those were the days!

I miss OLTL so much it’s like a sickness. I will say though that yesterday I actually thought to myself “Oh I can’t wait for GH today!” It was great to feel that excited about it, it’s been a long time since I felt that way. I think the Ron/Frank turnaround has been a gradual thing that we didn’t really notice til “BAM,” all at once this show is rockin’

Gloria, I feel the same way as you do, Its been a while since I said I have to watch general hospital, it would be on I always supported it I just could leave the room or take a afternoon nap, but since Ron and FRank took over ,I enjoy it once again and hopefully it will be the number one soap.I havent had a afternoon general hospital nap for a while now I don’t want to miss a thing.

The sad thing is that I will never watch ABC again until they bring at least 1 show back, which they will never do. Now GH has become their best show on their network. I cannot wait to see it every day. Brian Frons is a nasty disgusting person. They were filming the chew before they even told Susan that AMC was being cancelled. Extremely non respectful behavior. I really don’t care what ABC puts on the air. I am done.

Leave it to Susan to tell it like it is! She continues to be like a breath of fresh air, and I’m so happy that she’s able to experience all these different projects at this phase in her career. Fronzilla doesn’t deserve mention, but since you asked, he’s got blood and guts on his hand for killing not only the shows, but trying to slash and burn a genre. He got his, though. Nothing like the unemployment line to teach you how successful your past decisions have been!

I am done with ABC if GH doesn’t stay on for more than one year…………ABC will be the biggest loser…

Hell yes, Frons was the culprit! We all know he hated soaps and cancelled several when he was with another Network. When he came to ABC, it was his lot in life to do the same. I do not think he acted alone with the decision, but he certainly was the person who instigated and followed through with the force-out. There was never any salvation coming later for the soap fans, even though both soaps were hoping the deal to go on-line would be accepted.
The thing that frost my butt the most is that if cutting costs could have kept the soaps on the air, why didn’t Frons try that??? We already know that the actors and crew would probably have agreed to salary cuts in order to keep working. There were so many other options he could have looked at….instead, he kept everyone in the dark saying not to worry about keeping their jobs, and then cut them off at the head only moments before it was released to the whole world that both shows were gone. This was not a nice man…he was a viscious, strategist who was going to cut costs at everyone else’s expense and didn’t care who got hurt in the process. The one thing he did suceed out of all this is to taint and tarnish the ABC Disney reputation. Disney will never live down what they have done to thousands of fans. They will never be the #1 channel to watch again.
As for Susan and the other casts and crews of both shows, they deserve to find other jobs in the industry that reward them for their talent instead of abusing them or belittle them because they worked on a soap. These people who day in and day out appear before the cameras are the hardest working company in the entertainment industry. ABC should have given them the respect they deserved.
If you listen closely….you can almost hear the thousands of fans tuning out ABC for other channels. That is how loud we are shutting them out!

I think she is right, about brain frons and its a dam shame , be myself i do not watch those shows that they replace, my soaps, for me i only watch general;hospital. AND if they take that off they can for get about me and a lot of others that they count on to watch the channel 5 abc, I will watch the other channel and cable. AND watch what ever my soap opera stars play on. LET BRAIN FRONS watch ABC mybe he can boost the ratinging by him self.

With AMC, the handwriting was on the wall with a combination of Frons pulling the trigger and let’s just be honest, Pratt’s horrible writing. It wasn’t until OLTL was rumored to be on the chopping block that Ron Carlivati actually started giving a crap about the show and brought his A- game to wrapping things up. Great actors can’t make up for horrible writing and lack of coherent story execution. Unfortunately until ABC wakes up and fires Ron, he will be looking toward writing another soap finale in a year from now.

Best wishes to Susan Lucci. She deserves the post-AMC success!

I too blame Brian Frons for the demise of my beloved ABC soaps, but I disagree with Ms. Lucci that the fans weren’t there! I watched OLTL 5 days a week for most of my life. It still rocked when it was cancelled. I truly miss it everyday and watch the reruns on SOAPNet until ABC/D takes that away too. Once GH is gone, I’ll be like, “Who is ABC, and what’s a Disney?” They will be dead to me. I truly don’t want to wish ill will on anyone, but if anyone deserves bad Karma it’s Mr. Frons. I hope his career goes the way of The Revolution…quickly cancelled!

Right on Susan Lucci! I believe we as viewers were there (although not 90′ s numbers), we were NOT correctly counted! It was apparent that Sweeney and Frons had it in for daytime dramas. Their actions over the course of several years were nails in the coffins, one at a time. I miss OLTL so much and I’ve expressed my displeasure by boycotting all ABC TV except for GH.

By the way, MFS friends; Nielson is randomly calling households asking them to survey their TV viewing habits over a given time frame (no meter, just a written form). My mother in law is doing this. I joked with her; make sure she records her soap viewing, lol. If you get a call from Nielson, don’t ignore it. This may be a chance for non-metered households to be counted.

Susan ,

I agree with you about Fons. As far as the viewers, we all work. That doesn’t mean our DVRs weren’t working overtime. Never missed a show in 41 years. I am still recording the reruns of AMC off of Soapnet. Still not missing it

I think it was totally wrong to cancel the soaps and put on the cooking shows, I wonder how many people are actually watching those shows they replaced the soaps with, was it worth it? I want the soaps back, especailly AMC that’s the one I watched, and watched since I was in Jr. high. Never did understand why it was cancelled in the first place. but since it has been off, I don’t watch any TV during that time of the day, and if I did, I certainly would not watch the Chew or what ever the show is. Who ever it was that cancelled it was a bad person and yes I do very much blame them. Take the Chew off and put AMC back on.

Great news for Susan Lucci. I am glad that she is working, however the viewers were still there just spread out more between dvr, network and soapnet. I will forever hate Frons and Disney for what they have done. Besides GH, Abc and Disney are dead to me.

I guess Susan doesn’t realize that many AMC/OLTL viewers DVR’d and TVIO’d the soaps or watched them on Soapnet due to work. So don’t blame the viewers when it was Frons, Sweeney and Iger who made the dreadful decision to cancel AMC & OLTL. They had every intention to do so no matter what Neilsen says.

I agree with ya….

Whats sad about lucci’s comment about the fans were not there anymore ,that’s what that rat brian frons said after he and the other soap haters from abc/disney cancelled our soaps,I still can’t believe she said that, she pulled a erika cane not caring about anyone but herself and forgetting the fans that put her where she is today.

i guess she had to say that the fans were not there because after all the pilot she is doing is on abc………….i guess she doesn’t want to go against the big bad disney executives……

i give credit to Frons over screwing over the writing on AMC.But truth be told Anne Sweeney is the one who wanted the soaps gone.Susan is still working for ABC so lets be nice t.o ABC…Hell no….Poor inerview Susan.Millions are watching on soapnet and online so where is the lost of veiwers. She can kiss ABC/s backside. At least the veiwers know the truth. If we get them back hope she stays gone.

I no more beleive they do anything because of Nielsen ratings, anymore then I beleive surveys on politics or anything else all smoke & mirrors! They sit in a little room and pick and choose just b/s! I mean really do you guys beleive all these years Y&R has stayed at #1 I don’t!

the viewers were always there…..is she nuts????????????? guess she has to watch what she says…..

Just wrote a response and lost it. I will say, don’t get mad at Susan for speaking the truth, no matter how it came out. She has adjusted to life after AMC and has moved on. Susan is about Susan and not a handful away of being one in the same with Erica Kane. I bet when she was on that man’s talk show, she said ” Thank You ” a million times. Someone needs to tell her U don’t say Thank you for every acknowledgement a person gives you. U have to know “when” right timing for it, otherwise it breaks down the conversation being had, and those that are listening- ‘ then ‘ what we are listening to are ” Thank you’s ” which is really intent on pointing out to the viewership how DEVINE you are. I’ll come back tomorrow and wrote what I think about her comment, which in short, she is speaking the truth, but it’s how she said it. We can’t be so sensitive. This is Susan/Erica Kane- Lucci…!

Have not heard from Debi, Shes here I left her a, Glad she is back but never heard back. its a slow weekend, Played a lot of cards (eucker and poker).General hospital is going up hope it goes to #1, Like one guy said here Rome wasnt built in a day and he is right. I know you said you werent watching but kate/connie is good, shes crazy and I am liking her, I think she’s the one who blew out anthoy’s tires, Also I am liking Sonny again Feel bad for the guy, cant wait to see how he deals with the fact that kate has (did) . Ron wrote in that Johnny is reading a book from a mother, daughter from pennslyvania with (did) I think vicki should pop up in port charles at a book signing.YES, General hospital is good again and I am loving every episode.

Hey Barb. What’s happening? I’m tired these days. Very busy. A rainy May so far, anyway…. Not sure what U were saying here:
” Have not heard from Debi, Shes here I left her a, Glad she is back but never heard back. ” ?

Can U please clarify? Not sure what U are saying? Thanks.

And by the way, all your coma’s were Perfecto, everyone of them! : )

Hey 1loveabcsoaps, She left me a post don’t remember where, I answered back then never heard from her again but she will pop up once in a while. This wednesday we should hear some news about the emmys, What a shame if we don’t get to see them. Thanks for the comma compliment.

I think the views were there, they were just watching in other ways that didn’t count in the ratings…unfortunately in the end it’s always about money, but in some case it should be what’s best for fans…fans who have been loyal for many many years.

There was and still are millions of viewers out there. This is Canada speaking. I’m boycotting ABC/Disney forever and there will be no visits to Disney Theme Parks.

I totally agree with Susan, Yes it may be cheaper to Have The Chew, but ABC could have worked it out if they wanted to, make the AMC half an hour, and let them have summer off like the prime time shows. I’m happy for Susan that she is doing other projects as well as some other AMC actors, but I will always miss Erica Kane and All My Children. They were like family.

I remember always seeing previews for daytime soaps during prime time. I noticed for a couple of years ABC stopped doing that. I believe that this had a BIG part in the ratings drop. They didn’t want to pay for advertising. I no longer watch ABC, except for GH. I do however watch CBS & NBC and I still see previews for their daytime soaps every night. If you want something to work, you have to work at it. Without a doubt, Frons wanted the soaps to fail.

So happy to see that Susan Lucci is keeping busy. She’ll always be Erica Kane though.

I think people need to be careful about misquoting or understanding anyone when they make a statement. It is so easy to take it out of context. the ratings were dropping for soaps whether it be due to bad writing, changing viewereship, competition from cable and internet the vieweres were `not there`- at least according to the Nielsens. Susan has managed somehow to move on – against all odds. I am sure a lot of us, or at least me, thought we`d never see her again. If Devious Maids gets picked up and stays alive for a few season Susan will have managed to keep her career alive. She is one of the few tv stars who has been consistently on the `scoreboard`. Most hit it big and then fade away and then come back if ever. Very few actors can stay on top or near the top for over 20 let alone 40 years. Bill Cosby – ebbs and flow. Brady bunch one shot wonders. Dynasty and Dallas stars – ebbs and flow Friends and Seinfeld sort of petered out with some coming back and then fading again. Susan has been pretty consistent but now is the test. I unfortunately missed Dallas as I was in bible school and they didn`t let us watch shows like that. But it sounds deliciously devious. Erica Kane gone bad and psycho!

” Erica Kane gone bad and psycho! ” Erica Kane is nomore….. what are you talking about?

“I am sure a lot of us, or at least me, thought we`d never see her again. ” I can’t believe you believe your statement. If you, who found all those shows (above) that Susan Lucci has been in through the course of her career (outside of AMC) then obviously you know that Susan Lucci is one of the soap star’s that U WOULD see, and it wasn’t going to be long AT ALL. We ALL knew that. Noone (the fans) was worrried about Susan, because Lucci has a BRAND!!!!!!!! Erica Kane!
Therefore, you like everyone else, KNEW you would see Susan again, especially with a career (in which you pointed out) in primetime and daytime. C’mom

that’s right and im glad the shows that replacem amc & oltl suck!

Carol Burnett Talks About Being a Superfan of ‘All My Children’ on ‘Live with Kelly and Mark’

In a heartfelt reunion, of sorts, the one and only Carol Burnett appeared on Monday March 25th episode of Live with Kelly and Mark.

Burnett had first met Kelly Ripa (Hayley) and Mark Consuelos (ex-Mateo) back when they all appeared on All My Children together. Carol played Verla Grubbs first in 1983 and then again in the 90’s.

Host Kelly Ripa (ex-Hayley, AMC) noted to Burnett that “we go back a long time”. She also described Burnett’s character of Verla Grubbs, “extraordinary in every way.”

Carol’s love for All My Children is well-documented, hence legendary soap creator, Agnes Nixon, created the role of Verla for Burnett.

Speaking on how her passion for All My Children began, Carol told Kelly and Mark, “It started with my kids. They would watch at noon. I said, ‘What are you guys doing?’ I sat down and I started to watch and I got hooked!”

When Carol’s family decided to travel through Europe during one summer, the comedic legend recalled thinking, “How am I going to last if I don’t know what’s going on in Pine Valley?” She revealed she had a friend, “who sent me a telegram to the (different hotels) on Fridays to bring me up to date.”

In a hilarious moment from the segment, Carol recalled receiving a late night telegram while in Lake Cuomo when there was a knock at her hotel room door from the hotel manager who was shaking.

Carol related what it said, “Erica is still in a coma. Mark slipped again and ran away from rehab.” As Kelly and Mark broke into laughter, Burnett continued, “Chuck has learned that Donna is carrying his baby, who was once a hooker.”

Check out Carol explaining how she became an AMC Superfan below.

Malachy McCourt, ‘Ryan’s Hope’ and ‘All My Children’ Actor, Dead at 92

If you watched Ryan’s Hope through its 14-year-run, you know that Kevin the bartender became a beloved “member’ of the Ryan clan on the defunct ABC daytime drama series. The character of Kevin MacGuiness became so loved by the fans because of the actor who portrayed him, Malachy McCourt.

Sadly, according to his wife Diana McCourt to The New York Times, Malachy passed away on Monday from a heart condition and battling cancer. The actor was 92-years-old.

Playing Kevin on Ryan’s Hope was not much of a stretch for McCourt, because in his lifetime, he was the owner of 1950s Irish pub Malachy’s on Third Avenue in Manhattan. Known as one of the city’s great story-tellers, patrons from longshoremen to the actor Richard Harris would stop in and talk all things Irish with . On Ryan’s Hope, Kevin was best friends to “Ryan’s Bar” owner, Johnny Ryan (Bernie Barrow) and he tried to keep Delia (Ilene Kristen) on the straight and narrow.

In his soap opera career, McCourt also was widely-known for his role of Father Clarence McCourt on All My Children especially come Christmastime. Was Clarence, actually St. Nick? That was always the proverbial question. McCourt also appeared on the New York soaps: One Life To Live, Search For Tomorrow and Another World. Other roles included: Devil’s Own, Brewster’s Millions, The Molly Maguires, and Starman, to name

Later in 2006, Malachy ran for governor of the state of New York as a Green Party candidate. He tackled social issues of the time including being an advocate for gay and lesbian groups to march in the annual St. Patrick’s Day Parade.

McCourt’s childhood was recounted within his brother Frank McCourt’s Pulitzer Prize-winning memoir Angela’s Ashes, which detailed their mother’s attempt to raise the four of their surviving seven children in poverty in Limerick, Ireland. Later, Malachy wrote his own memoirs: 1998’s Monk Swimming, and 2000’s Singing My Him Song.

Malachy is survived by his aforementioned wife, Diana, daughter Siobhan McCourt; sons Malachy Jr., Conor and Cormac; stepdaughter Nina Galin; nine grandchildren; and one great-grandson.
