THE BAY Puts Season Three On Hold Citing Bigger Budget, Higher Production Value with Cast Intact On The Horizon!

For those expecting a season three of The Bay to pop up over the upcoming holiday season, you will have to put that on pause.   In an official press release from LANY films and The Bay’s executive producer, Gregori J. Martin today, behind-the-scenes changes are the reason production is being delayed in order to bring a more enhanced quality product and viewing experience for fans of the Daytime Emmy nominated web series.  Here is the official press release below!

“It’s no secret that I’ve always had a passion for quality scripted daytime drama,” states Gregori J. Martin, Executive Producer and creator of the Emmy-nominated serial drama The Bay. “The importance of scripted daytime drama can’t be overly emphasized. This is the genre that ushered in the new era of television in the 1950‘s, and is the same genre that is now ushering in a new era on a new platform – the internet. I am excited to say that as THE BAY advances to a new level in Season 3, we plan to bring scripted daytime drama back to the forefront.”

As LANY Entertainment, in association with LocoDistro and Associated Television International (ATI), makes plans for a bigger and better Season 3 online and/or on television, it’s the action taking place behind the camera that will determine when viewers are once again treated to the high-stakes drama Bay City is known for. It’s a classic example of good things coming to those who wait.

“Season 3 of The Bay promises to be the best one yet,” Martin continues. “We’re currently in the position where we must wait to take our next step. Though we can’t give a premiere date yet, we’re thrilled to announce that all of your favorite daytime veterans will be returning. We’ll have a bigger budget to work with, our production values will be higher, with better location shoots, and more. Not only will our fans have all their favorites return, but the show as a whole will look and feel even better.”

Concerning the behind the camera action, LocoDistro’s Chief Creative Officer and an Executive Producer of THE BAY Gabriel Gornell adds, “It’s an essential time for daytime dramas—and it’s important that new dramas born on the web, like The Bay, continue to push both creative and production values year after year. Basically, if daytime dramas are to thrive across new media platforms, it’s essential they provide an equal or better viewing experience to what fans have grown accustomed to in broadcast.”

Jim Romanovich, ATI’s president of worldwide media and entertainment, concurs, “Given the past success and scope of The Bay I agree we must take our time so that the quality of the production itself is everything we expect it to be and more. Season 3 of The Bay will be bigger and better, but in order for us to bring that quality of work to the table, production should only begin when all of these elements are in place.”

Gregori J. Martin concludes, “I’m both thrilled and grateful for Gabriel and Jim’s dedication and enthusiasm for the success of our show. It’s a very exciting time for The Bay!  Originally anticipated to premiere in early November, The Bay  Season 3 debut will be delayed until further notice, the date TBA. Until then, fans can enjoy past episodes and other perks at www.thebaytheseries.com

So soapers, what do you think of the news of The Bay’s delayed season?  Are you excited that the key participants are aiming at delivering a higher quality product? Weigh-in!

VERY EXCITED!!!! The second season was quite amazing, so knowing that this is happening for the third season excites me. This is one series I’d love to see on television!

I think the statement says that they dont have the finances in line for season three but are optimistic about getting them somewhere down the line. Same thing as PP, big plans, no money

I’m a little sad about the delay but very excited about the possibilities for the future. I saw Gregori’s tweet about the CW and I hope that means great things for The Bay. With such great actors and story, the Bay deserves a home on television.

I’m glad that the Bay has garnered the support of great people like Jim Romanovich and Gabriel Gornell. Great people + great talent + great stories = a great show with a bright future.

The Bay is not like PP. We’ve already had two seasons and Gregori and the crew have come through every year. I know they will this year too. I saw Gregori’s tweet about the CW and I sure hope that means something good for the Bay. It deserves a home on television.

I’m very glad the Jim Romanovich and Gabriel Gornell are on board with the Bay. Great people equal a great show and nothing but a bright future ahead.

I saw a tweet that talks are on with the CW!!!! How awesome is that! This show is great and deservers to be on TV! Can’t wait!

This isn’t about whether or not there will be a season 3, but where we will watching season 3 when it premires. In talks with the CW according to some recent tweets, and rumor has it some other big online distributors are interested as well. Great news for The Bay!

Great news for The Bay! A very bright future ahead! Looking forward to Season 3 now more than ever!

I don’t think this is a good sign, no matter how they try to spin it. I’ll hope for the best.

Why?

I love this show, looking forward to season 3 and finding out what Steve has done with Sara !!! Fingers crossed it makes it to TV.

What a mess. One of the most transparent press releases in history. Not a single thing they announced makes any sense in the logical business world. People don’t announce serious, legitimate business deals to the public like that, let alone on Twitter (a.k.a. CW deal), and if the budget is bigger why didn’t they meet their indiegogo goal? Ego driven spin job from the looks of it. I would be less worried about the returning stars and more concerned with the abysmal sound quality, and pointless spinoffs. Carol is well intended but she is Gregori’s assistant after all. Instead of talking about how “big” The Bay is, just keep quiet and produce a quality show.

Why so cynical? If the show was simply delayed, I would wonder, too, but when it’s announced Gabriel Gornell and Jim Romanovich are involved after the show receives an Emmy nod….that tells me there’s something bigger going on. I take this announcement as something very positive. I’m amazed what Gregori has done with this show so far (the sound issues, etc. have not been an issue since the very first episodes) and with a greater budget and more latitude, I can only imagine how much better the show can be. The Bay can give us what today’s soaps are sorely lacking.

Keeping quiet when things are looking so good is not good business sense. Fans want to know what is going on with the show. Releasing an update that reflects what is going on behind the scenes, but not something that can be laid out fully on the table, is good business sense. Fans are important; the very reason for The Bay’s success. Season 3 of The Bay will not debut during the timeframe originally scheduled, and as the press release states, the delay is for very good reasons. The spin-offs tell an intricate part of the whole story, which has yet to be seen. Without them, the show would not be as rich. The Bay’s Emmy nomination speaks volumes as far as producing a quality show. It is an honor to be associated with and work with such astute professionals as Gregori J. Martin, Gabriel Gornell, and Jim Romanovich. The Bay is definitely big, and continues to get bigger!

I don’t think it’s bad news at all. Yes it means there’s a delay and that finances are likely still being lined up, but I think it’s very logical. As this show has grown in both quality and popularity, sponsors have come forward and it appears that there’s legitimate interest from some in TV. I understand how those things might impact the production. A show that was totally the brainchild of Gregori produced solely for fans on an extra slim shoestring is now a product that he has to take great care with in order to preserve and strengthen in order to have some of those opportunities move forward — and one that should cost a little more to produce. As a fan, I think that’s smart…and I think it’ll ultimately mean good things for watchers. Yes, Hollywood is a business…but it’s not the typical or logical business world. I have no doubt that The Bay will be back with Season 3 and i’m confident that’ll be the best, most quality season to date.

The creators of The Bay should not get carry away with greed, illusions of television riches and bigger audiences. I think they should stick with the pace they are going with breaking ground on the internet. Remember the tale of the Race between the Tortoise and the Rabbit!

Nancy Lee Grahn’s Star-Studded ALS Fundraiser Reveals “I’ll Be There” Video Featuring Soap Opera Notables

Talk about your impressive line-up! It’s a soap fans dream and for a great cause. General Hospital’s Nancy Lee Grahn (Alexis Davis) is prepping her one-night only ALS fundraiser which will feature many of her friends and co-stars.

The benefit is set for May 4th in Glendale, California. Slated to participate are Genie Francis, Jane Elliot, Peter Bergman, Maurice Benard, Eileen Davidson, Thorsten Kaye, Michelle Stafford, Stephen Nichols, Rena Sofer, Jason Thompson, Kelly Monaco, Melissa Claire Egan, Maura West, Kristina Wagner, Gregory Harrison, Trevor St. John, Kate Mansi, Kirsten Storms, Cynthia Watros, and many others.

On Wednesday, Grahn took to her social media and released an “I’ll be there” video shout-out featuring, Monaco, Elliot, Bergman, Bernard, West, Harrison, St. John and more. In a touching and important moment in the new video, Michelle Strogny, who is battling ALS, is featured.

Previously, in speaking with Soap Opera Digest on the impetus of the event, Grahn recalled, “I was actually doing Zoom events during Covid and I met this woman that I just fell in love with, Michelle Strojny. At the time, Michelle had been living with ALS for four years. Now, it’s five years. She is a mom of a teenage son, she has the most wonderful husband, and she has been dealing with this [disease] for quite a while. And obviously, there isn’t a cure yet. It’s not survivable yet. But as she says, it’s not incurable. Nothing is; it’s underfunded. But anyway, I just really dug this woman. She is so grounded and filled with grace, and she spends all of her time working to raise money for the cause. We did a fundraiser for her last year and then I thought, ‘You know what? The soaps don’t ever get together to do something for charity.’ Collectively, we have this amazing community and we don’t collectively use it for a good cause, and I think it’s such an easy thing for us to do and we could potentially really make a difference.”

As GH viewers know, Gregory Harrison is playing the character of Gregory Chase, who is also battling ALS in a touching storyline that is currently playing out shedding a light on this disease.

‘General Hospital’ Writer Shannon Peace Let Go, and Shares on Sprina: “One of My Only Regrets is to Not Have the Opportunity to Develop That ‘Ship’ Further”

As General Hospital’s new head writing team of Elizabeth Korte and Patrick Mulcahy gets off the ground and running, there are still changes a foot on the writing team.

Now comes word via breakdown writer Shannon Peace that she is no longer on contract with the long-running ABC soap heading into its 61st season. Peace shared a heartfelt message on her Instagram, thanking the fans, and the show for the opportunity and the importance of diversity in the writers room.

Peace began, “After almost 3 years on staff and 106 episodes penned, I am no longer on contract with General Hospital. Writing for this country’s longest running television serial drama has been an education of epic proportions; I will forever be grateful that I earned my WGA card on a daytime fixture that holds memories for so many.” (Peace pictured below with GH EP Frank Valentini and script writer, Charlotte Gibson from about ten months ago).

Shannon added “Even more importantly, as the sole Black breakdown writer (and only POC in the writers room) during my tenure, I pushed for vital interactions and discussions that prioritized inclusion, visibility, and representation”

The writer pointed to the example of vital interaction when in story, “Stella and Portia’s frank July 2022 conversation about the role race played in Esme’s framing of Trina is just one example of the impact I’m gratified to have had.”

Acknowledging former GH co-head writers was also part of Peace’s farewell expressing, “Appreciation to my former bosses, Chris Van Etten and Dan O’Connor – not only taking a chance on me, but for valuing my opinion and championing my voice.”

Many GH fans know that Peace was key to the development of the love story between Trina Robinson and Spencer Cassadine as played by Tabyana Ali and Nicholas Chavez. Shannon gave a special shout-out to ‘Sprina’ fans, “I also want to thank fans who were supportive of my work, especially the recognition of my love for ‘Sprina’. One of my only regrets is not having to develop that ‘ship’ further.”

She concludes her statement with,”In the aftermath of a historic writer’s strike that shed new light on the troubling ways writers are regarded in daytime, my sincere hope is that General Hospital recommits to valuing staff writer efforts and input, with a more intentional focus on diverse viewpoints — and thrives for another 60 years.”

Accompanying her post, Shannon added, “Thank you all for the love and support these last few years. I hope GH fans get all they hope for and more!”

So, what do you think about GH not renewing Shannon’s contract? Will there be more continued changes afoot? What do you think is the future of ‘Sprina’ anyway at this point as viewers wait to see if Nicholas Chavez officially returns to the show?  Comment below.
