THE CHEW To Have Primetime Special To Preview ABC's Fall Line-Up!

Now here is a paradoxical twist!  ABC is giving the cookie/foodie daytime series, The Chew, and it’s hosts, some primo real estate with a special episode to introduce the network’s  fall line-up of their hottest news shows and stars in primetime!  With a tag line in the official press release of “The Chew Takes A Bite Out Of ABC’s New Fall Season,” the episode will air on September 2nd. (7PM-8PMEST)

Here is what we know will go down:  The merry band of  “Chew” cooking co-horts;  Mario Batali, Michael Symon, Carla Hall, Clinton Kelly and Daphne Oz travel coast to coast — from California and New York to Hawaii and Nashville — to bring viewers a sneak peek at the ABC Fall Primetime lineup. Interviewing some of the network’s hottest new stars, the special has something for everyone.  From diva-filled musical drama and deep and dark desires to quirky and “out of this world” comedies and thrillers.

Highlights of the special include:  666 Park Avenue stars Vanessa Williams and Terry O’Quinn  enjoy cocktails and canapés with Clinton Kelly from a chic Manhattan hotel room to talk about their sexy, seductive new primetime address.
Carla Hall travels home as she visits  Nashville star Hayden Panettiere  on the legendary stage of The Grand Ole Opry and visits with her co-stars, Clare Bowen and Sam Palladio, at the iconic Bluebird Cafe.

Aloha from Oahu, Hawaii, the breathtaking location for ABC’s new action adventure series, Last Resort, premiering   Series star Andre Braugher sits oceanside with Daphne Oz for comfort food, conversation and a hometown surprise, all amidst the palm trees and island breeze.

Carla Hall catches up with the stars of the new family comedy series The Neighbors at Johnnie’s Coffee Shop in Los Angeles, where Jami Gertz and other stars share a preview of their quirky new sitcom that’s sure to bring the family together for a night of laughs. ”

It’s a food truck fiesta as Daphne Oz meets country music superstar Reba McIntyre to talk about her new sitcom, Malibu Country, which premieres Friday, November 2 at 8:30 p.m., ET.    Gordon Elliott is the executive producer of  The Chew Presents ABC’s Primetime Fall Primetime Special.

So soapers; interesting that ABC is giving The Chew a shot at primetime to introduce their fall line-up!  Wonder if the cast of General Hospital was even considered?  Doubtful.    If The Chew can have a primetime slot to cross promote themselves, maybe we can get a primetime special to properly finish up OLTL and AMC …  or to call attention to GH’s upcoming 50th Anniversary!  Just sayin’    Thoughts?

I’ll pass.

just sounds like a desperate attempt to bring the chew into peoples livings rooms…who dont watch…i dont care what ratings say i find it hard to believe anyone is watching that garbage…except for doctor offices, salons etc that have their tvs on abc all day long.

Michael, again it just shows how much ABC does not know about their audience. I betcha they have really lousy ratings for this. It’s so obvious how much they want this stupid show to succeed.

I wish GH was given the consideration and, I agree, it would be nice for AMC and OLTL to have been given this consideration as well. They just do not care.

ditto on all!

Just more pimping.

Now that ID is doing a soap alternative programming block, I may have to break boycott and start watching The Chew and DVRing The Talk! After all, the shows on ID are just as much “soap killers” as The Chew, The Talk, etc. I had been standing strong with fans of AMC and OLTL, but OLTL what? AMC who?! Days of Our Lives, when?! If soap fans can be lured away from the remaining 4 soaps by crappy reality TV programming like this and ID’s ridiculously titled Days of Our Knives, then we’re all going to be watching crappy reality TV programming when ALL the remaining soaps are gone! I apologize for the tone of my post, but I want to make a point. BTW I would NEVER watch The Chew or The Talk (never to be on my DVR), but my point is that soap fans complain about The Chew, etc. taking the place of beloved soaps and then (blindly?) follow ID in an attempt to lure viewers away from the remaining soaps. C’mon, soap fans stay strong: If you must watch ID soap killers, please DVR and watch later — not during the 1 to 4 block when our soaps are on…

I’m with you, Matt.

I just made a personal choice last week to give up ALL the reality shows that I watch which was not many, but considered reality: Amazing Race, Survivor, Hoarders, and Master Chef.

I never watched absolute garbage like the Kardashian show, but since the above-mentioned were considered reality and I am really sick of this genre taking over, I can’t be middle-of-the-road and so I have decided to give it ALL up.

If the networks are determined to take away our soap genre for the likes of reality then I will turn to DVDs (since I ended Directv) of current scripted dramas, Hulu, Netflix, etc., and reruns of classic TV shows.

Since I don’t watch ABC/D it doesn’t matter what they put on or try to do to promote their new shows or their old shows.

ABC/D is desperate for this show to succeed. I will never watch the chew idiots!!!!

Who wants to see the motley crew of the chew on prime time??? NOT ME!!! Won’t watch them then or in their regular time slot!! EVER!!!!

I just realized that this will be running during dinner time for some folks. I sure hope ABC has enough antacid/heartburn sponsors lined up. Ha! Ha!

plop, plop, fizz, fizz! bwhahahahaha

This is more about saving the Spew than promoting the fall line up. ABC’s desperation is showing!

I don’t watch the Chew during the daytime hours, and I’M NOT GOING TO WATCH during primetime hours!!! Give it a rest, ABC and quit pimping this show that no one is interested in. The only reason why they haven’t cancelled this show, is because they are trying to save face. The ratings for this show aren’t that great either. And I don’t need to watch a primetime special featuring these losers to know what’s going on in the Fall for ABC….All you have to do is go online, or better yet get just wait until the Fall and watch the shows that seem of interest to you….if there are any.

I’m all for cross-promos, but I won’t be watching this one. I don’t watch ABC primetime or The Chew. I would however support a primetime movie or mini-series to properly end AMC & OLTL, and one to celebrate GH’s 50th. I have emailed TPTB suggesting these things. It would go a long way in restoring the ABC Daytime fanbase they have now lost with their programming changes.

My first thought exactly, why can’t AMC and OLTL have a prime time episode to finish off their shows. This just further shows how much abc sucks! Talk about another kick in the teeth to the fans. I can’t wait for Katie to tank, and the chew to drop lower in the ratings…and then they’ll be left wondering, what did we do wrong???

Tilting my head…

Why does ABC continue to force feed America The Chew? I could see a nighttime edition of The View previewing the new Fall schedule. Or perhaps even a special episode of Castle. That would have been kinda cute, but The Chew? That train wreck of show? Embarrassing! It’s a sad grasping at ratings. Do they think that they will suddenly climb in the ratings by way of this stunt? If ABC were a friend, rather than a network, I would have already suggested therapy.

Just picture it. Why would anyone want to watch those five people preview the new nighttime lineup? On the other hand, Castle, his mom , Beckett and Alexis, with a bowl of popcorn, discussing the hot new shows. They could even discuss their upcoming season, as a fantasy in their heads. Also cute would be several GH characters, sitting together, discussing the new shows. Maybe Epiphany and Liz in the nurses lounge or something like that.

For goodness sakes… How about Katie Couric, their new daytime star, previewing their new nighttime stars. Sheesh.

ABC… really… enough with The Chew! And yes, a nighttime episode of General Hospital would be fantastic. But I hold no hope for it until someone buys ABC a clue.

Okay, thank God I don’t watch anything on ABC, so this won’t affect me anyway. But ABC doing this is STUPIDITY AT ITS BEST!

Like millions of others, I won’t be watching this mess of a cooking show. The Food Network Channel is where I go for my cooking shows, Bravo too and the Cooking Channel. Sorry ABC, put the soaps back on!!!

Wow…a primetime edition of The Chew. This to me signifies how much of a letdown the ratings have been. ABC cannot understand for the life of them how this show is just NOT clicking with its audience. I mean, my goodness, just how many recipes can one person have? How much forced host back & forth bantering should make us all fall in love with them? Oh, that Carla! Isn’t Mario a hunk!

Sorry ABC, your just found support of GH is great & all but I’m still mighty peeved of your past actions as they have had devasting impacts on not only your schedule but viewers lives. We don’t forget and aren’t easily bought off. Hopefully, the ratings for the prime time episode will be just as bad and the daytime version. ABC can then, at least, maybe, finally voice what a huge boneheaded mistake it was to torpedo their once vibrant and loyal daytime audience. Sure, it won’t bring our soaps back, but seeing these high-salaried know it alls have egg on their face is beyond priceless. Paybacks a bitch ABC!

The soaps are the orphans at ABC when it comes to promotion. Maybe those who view “The Chew” at 7 pm will appreciate what soapers have had to “chew” on this past year.

Is this a joke what is the Chew doing having a primetime special because its a cooking show thats introducing some of the new ABC Primetime series i think i will pass watching it.

Considering I totally ignore ABC except for General Hospital this special is useless for viewers like me.

Let The Chew permanently move to primetime. See how well the primetime audience responds to them.

Then bring back both AMC and OLTL. If they can’t fit them in the schedule, reduce them to a half-hour format like B&B.

Wow, is the Chew still on? Probably dying a slow death by choking. I haven’t watched ANY ABC programming since OLTL went off the air. I’m past their all-important age demographic of 18-49 so they don’t care what I think anyway. Screw the Chew and screw ABC.

Absolutely LOVE LOVE LOVE the idea of GH getting a PRIME TIME SPECIAL in honor of the shows 50th Anniversary! A 2 hour special is the LEAST that ABC can give to GH after all that they’ve done in the past 16 or so months to daytime!

Also, ABC Daytime needs to put up now and “walk the walk” and do what they said they were going to do; “Fully Support GH!”. They can start by airing a lot of GH commercials honoring the Anniversary into their top prime time shows next Spring!

Would it have been so difficult to do this kind of cross promotion with its daytime star in recent years… Lucct, Geary, et al.? This will not help THE CHEW (Labor Day Weekend evenings are not top draw in any year) but the idea has merit. But it should have been done long ago with our AMC, OLTL, and GH actors and celebrities, right?

Primetime Spew showcasing the hide-the-tips Gang? What Dumber than Dummer (or is that the Froweenie?) suit in Burbank came up with this bone-headed idea? Duh..Dum….let me guess…One thing about them is their continued intransigence and unwillingness to change in the face of hard evidence – that their actions- – are COUNTERPRODUCTIVE. I read a well-documented book about that once, with a fact-filled conclusions chapter, too, regarding the contemporary follies many of ABC/Disney…

all i can say is i boycott everything that abc has done and it will be the same,Since they took off amc and oltl, and the numbers on daytime looks like it is working , the number for daytime on gman has been really bad, and now the chew # are starting to dip, and at night time only 4 shows in the top 20 demografically a couple of weeks ago, and the later weeks sorry i have not look what last week, but i have been hereing that the nbc has been crushing everything in site, , which i am very proud of for all the hard work that these young people have done! So again i will not watch anything that abc puts with exception of GH!

ABC is dead to me. It is not allowed in my house except for GH. Bring back our soaps or suffer the consequences.

Mark Consuelos Celebrates One-Year Anniversary as Co-Host of ‘Live’ Alongside Kelly Ripa

Today, April 17th marks a full-year since Mark Consuelos (ex-Mateo, All My Children) took over the co-hosting duties of ‘Live” alongside his wife, and longtime co-host, Kelly Ripa (ex-Hayley, All My Children).

Consuelos replaced Ryan Seacrest who are six seasons decided to be back on the west coast full-time. For Consuelos, now having the opportunity to work off of Ripa as co-hosts has been something of adjustment for him, but viewers have been eating it up.

Live with Kelly and Mark has remained the No. 1 entertainment talk show on television over the past year, growing 3% in average total viewers to 2.23M per episode.  It is also the most-watched daytime talk show in the last year in key demos of women 18-49 and women 25-54. All of this, since the real-life marrieds teamed-up.

Photo: ABC

Speaking with Deadline, Kelly Ripa shared why the two are gelling on-screen, “I do think that there is something very possibly relatable about our relationship. We have disagreements like a normal couple, and we’re not afraid to let them unfold on the air and in front of America, and I think people find a lot of themselves in that.”

Mark weighed in how he has progressed as a host, and what he could improve at, sharing, “I’d like to get better at my interviewing skills. I’d like to get better at reading a teleprompter…I think I’m getting better at throwing to commercial. The other day in the middle of the show as we go to commercial, my sign off was ‘See you guys around.’ I mean, the show wasn’t over. The most obvious thing to say would be, ‘We’ll be back right after this.’ But I just said, ‘See you around.’ So we went to commercial and one of the producers (goes) ‘What was that?’ I don’t know… So for the next few sign offs, as a joke, I’d say ‘See you around.’ We got a kick out of it.”

Meanwhile, Kelly has given huge props to Mark, “I find Mark utterly compelling, really interesting, super funny, and he’s bold in a way like nobody else. He says what’s on his mind. If he’s thinking it, he says it.  I’ve done this a long time and oftentimes people will adjust their natural personalities to pander to what they think the audience wants to hear, and Mark will tell people what he thinks, and he doesn’t care if it’s not a popular opinion. It gives him an edginess that I think is really missing in the landscape today. Everybody’s so afraid to say anything, and Mark is unafraid to say exactly what he’s thinking.”

In a statement, Debra O’Connell, President News Group and Networks, Disney Entertainment shared, We could not be more thrilled with how Mark has seamlessly joined the show family as permanent co-host. His undeniable charisma and his and Kelly’s natural chemistry are evident as they deliver the laughs and smiles to our viewers each morning. We are incredibly proud of how Live has continued to evolve and that the audience is responding so enthusiastically.”

So, do you think Mark Consuelos is the best co-host his wife Kelly Ripa has ever had on ‘Live’? How would you say he is doing as co-host after one full year on the job? Comment below.

Jacob Young Shares Production Pic of Cast of His New Film Featuring Joan Collins and Nadia Bjorlin

Last month, during a livestream conversation on the Michael Fairman Channel, while promoting Jason Cook’s film, Four for Fun, and featuring soap notables Jacob Young (ex-AJ, AMC, ex-Lucky, GH, ex-Rick, B&B) and Brytni Sarpy (Y&R), Young revealed some intel on his upcoming movie project.

Jacob shared that he was set to direct, produce and star in a Agatha Christie-like murder mystery feature film, Murder Between Friends shooting in Prague.

The actor/director expressed, “I’m flying at the end of the March to Prague to direct, produce and star in a film with Joan Collins (ex-Dynasty). Nadia Bjorlin (ex-Chloe, Days of our Lives) is in it, and Toby Alexander Smith from Eastenders (ex-Gray Atkins). Plus, a couple of my Broadway friends and a very well known Czech actress (Hana Vagnerova). It’s very ‘Knives Out’ without having a hundred million dollars to shoot it, but still will be a lovely film nonetheless.”

Photos: JPI

Young is currently shooting the film’s principal photography abroad through April 17th.

Over the weekend, Jacob took to his Instagram to share a photo with the cast of the film where pictured is former Dynasty star, Joan Collins (ex-Alexis) and former Days of our Lives star, Nadia Bjorlin (ex-Chloe). In addition, former All My Children star, Trent Garrett (ex-Asher) is seen in director-mode kneeling.
