I am really happy that the Nurse’s Ball is back! Such a staple in General Hospital’s history! I used to love the ball in the 90’s! It’s not quite the same as it used to be due to budget cuts; but, Lucy Coe is still an incredible host and the men stripping is hysterical!

They have ALL year to save up money for this show. Budget cuts are no excuse. They have money for faded prime time actors in throwaway roles…they have money to rent warehouses for pointless mob shoot outs…they seemingly have money to burn in their HIRE A NEWBIE fund. But they can’t save up and do this event justice.

Everyone is entitled to their opinion, but I thought they more than did the Nurses Ball justice last year. It was different for sure, but that’s not necessarily a bad thing. Nothing stays the same forever. I’m just glad they were able to bring it back, after it was scrapped by the previous regime.

I don’t disagree with you, Johnny. The “Hire a (Useless and Talentless) Newbie” fund needs to stop. Save the money on these less-than talents and put it towards the historic characters, families, and traditions of General Hospital!

I agree – the Nurses Ball is fun to watch. Watched today’s episode (Friday, May 9, 2014) and loved it all except the wedding of Luke and Tracey. Glad to see Ned and Maxi are back. Love that hunk, Nathan! Would like to see Nick go after Brit again and forget about that two-faced Elizabeth.

of course, but I am so hoping that Richard Simmons does not appear at the nurses ball this time around, eww imo he is awful

Bring on the Ball, but please no Simmons!

I want to watch daytime DRAMA, not a variety show. I predict heavy action on my fast forward control.

YEP!!! I WOULDNT MISS IT!!! ITS SILLY CORNY HARMLESS FUN!!! AS LONG AS NO ONE IS BEING SHOT, STABBED, OR STRANGLED!!! LOL

Yes … FUN TIME FOR ALL !!!

I’m excited about the 2014 Nurses Ball and who may show up this year! Let’s hope we do get some juicy drama, too!

Plus, more topless Mikey! Me likey!

Mac Scorpio doesn’t need a puppet, he can just put Jaclyn Zeman on his lap. Step right up to the greatest show on earth! YIKES

LMAO! Those poor deluded 60 something women in Hollywood who think…THAT looks better than graceful natural aging.

Right? I hate to be rude about someone’s appearance BUT she walked right into that 😉

Wh

Soap Operas are not part of Hollywood…and those “poor, deluded 60-something women” are unfortunately victims of a youth-oriented industry. Men too are falling prey to plastic surgery ala Bruce Jenner, Rupert Everett, the infamous Michael Jackson and a whole host of others who have ruined themselves. Sad but understandable….

I thought EXACTLY the same thing, Ces!!!! Glad to know I was not alone…. ; )

I find it rather tasteless that one of the new acts is men stripping. Back in the glory days of the Nurses Ball all of the acts were classy and cutesy and family friendly. AIDS is primarily a sexually transmitted diseases so seeing a bunch of men stripping off their clothes seems kind of hypocritical and counterproductive. When the show was written with heart and humanity the Nurses Ball was awesome and relevant. Now, with mob violence, psychopaths, and unprotected sex in burial chambers taking centre stage, even having the Nurses Ball is wrong. Why don’t they just throw a party for Mardi Gras?

LOL male strippers are fun!
But we all know there will be no actual striping, just some fun dancing..
stripping is not sex)
I bet if the women were stripping some would smile LOL ..

It is ALL IN FUN … enjoy the moment, it is a one time fun thing for the fans..
The actors are having fun with it so enjoy it!

That would depend on which women doing the stripping…lol…i liked last years Nurses Ball and im certain this years will be equally entertaining or even better…loved the opening with Dr.O!!!

I guess the problem is that I don’t like Ron Carlivati’s writing nearly as much as Ron Carlivati does. And as for the opening…well…last week Obrecht was in jail…for shooting a nurse. And this week…she gets to open the show. This event has lost all meaning and is now a parody and a joke.

I don’t think you can judge soaps with the same criteria you might a primetime show. Soaps are notoriously over-the-top, unrealistic, heightened, and ludicrous. If I were to dissect everything wrong with the logic or sentimentality of soaps I just wouldn’t watch…because intellectually I know they’re insane!

I do, of course, react with heartfelt emotion when a character is treated unfortunately or dies…that’s my emotional investment. But these “events’…though for a good cause…are fun and silly and sentimental.

With that said if Richard Simmons makes an appearance my TV is going thru the window!

Here, here, Johnny! I never thought I would agree on anything with that smug watermelon, Levi, but I certainly did today when he uttered, “This is so tacky…does a charity really need this? What a waste!” Actually everything so far has been completely atrocious save for Dr. O-MG’s! fantastic performance.

Dr.O stole the show but then again she is a criminal…lol!!!

I liked the beginning of the Nurse’s Ball today.Yeah i’m sure there’s going to be a lot of drama for the characters at the ball but for the actors it might be fun to perform.

Please show a video on You Tube of Dr.O`s dance from the Nurses Ball it was EXCELLENT!

A once classy and heartfelt event has been reduced to a cheesy parody. The red carpet entrances were useless and embarrassing filler. I did laugh when Sam tripped. It was great to see the beautiful GH cast all dressed up. Dr.O who held Robin captive for 2 years and shot Liz gets to perform wow. The cartoony villains really do rule GH.

I understand what you are saying and wish they hadnt made Dr.O so evil and sometimes cartoonish but the actress was so wonderful today and often is so i can overlook some of it…

and no Jack Wagner 🙁

Last year was such a treat! I’m looking forward to this year’s. It’s always such fun.

Lucy Coe is just awful – awful. And I do not see the charm – at all. I can’t believe that Kevin wouldn’t gladly hand her over to Henery Hawk aka Beak Baldwin in a heartbeat. Heck, I think he’d hand deliver her in a wheelbarrow just to not have to hear her squawk and flap and run around like Gladys Kravitz on crack.

LMAO!!!!!!!!! Gladys Kravitz on crack….that is most apt! Does Lucy HAVE to squawk and flap in EVERY scene?? Lucy of yore had her manic moments…that’s why she was endearing. But most of the time she was slinky and stealthy and moved like a feline. Now…whether she is saying “Hi” or “”Help the house is on fire!!!!!” She says it in the same freaked out high strung tone. TONE IT DOWN!!!!

Thank you, boes!!!! I absolutely cannot stand this woman, and never could, not even from her earliest days as the lurid, lascivious librarian….I simply don’t understand the attraction with her character at all. She’s over the top hammy and scenery-chewing and certainly not all that as some supposed style icon….many a day she reminds me of a streetwalker in some of those get-ups the wardrobe people drape on her. And I find her adultery storyline with Scotty to be absolutely appalling….I only hope Doc figures out her duplicity soon…between Tracy and him, there seems to be an awful lot of blind love and stupidity going around Port Charles

WOW! People…it’s s SOAP OPERA!!!! “She’s over-the-top hammy…”…”adultery storyline…”duplicity”…”tone it down…”

This is not Masterpiece Theatre…nor Dostoyevsky…it’s not Gone With the Wind (talk about over the top acting…but I digress….)

Lucy is loved by many because she’s a good-natured zany. She’s sincere and serious when the mood calls for it…she’s deliriously daph a good part of the time…but she’s a legacy character that brings part of the charm to an otherwise/many time angst-ridden story.

Thank God for Obrecht adding a touch of class to the usually middlebrow tackiness!

Amen, Mark!!!! Kathleen Gati once again demonstrated her credentials as a polished entertainment professional…multi-talented and absolutely awesome! Her opening number put all the rest to shame….I wish she would have hijacked the entire show….and kicked Lucy’s hostess act off the stage….her shtick is totally tiresome and tacky.

It’s a nice bit of fun, we get plenty of drama!

The red carpet reporter is just stupid and ridiculous. How does he know EVERYTHING about these people? None of them are celebrities. For instance…referring to Luke as a “curmudgeon”? Who talks like that? A writer who enjoys poking fun at his in depth knowledge of the history of the characters…that’s who. Writing should seem non existent…not shoved in your face in absurd and improbable ways. Ron should re watch old Nurses Balls.

LOVE this Ball so far! For me, it is eons above last year’s obnoxious Richard Simmons fiasco/lunacy…with a room full of maybe five GH characters surrounded by extras.

I have read some of the comments here as well as on Michael’s page on FB and I find it sad yet laughable how up-in-arms some people are at the “fun” aspect of this.

I think many of us agree Dr. O’s performance was charming and O-so-entertaining. But if we’re going to say some characters are “over-the-top”…let’s be consistent! Who can be more Over the top than Dr. O. But I love her!

The stripping…Eddie Mane…Kiki’s song…great, stunning bodies gyrating their way across my screen…love it all. And…perhaps the best…the room is full of GH characters!!!

I’m soooo glad “Ned” is back. I fear he may be leaving soon, but I love this guy. He hearkens to days of yore in the Q clan, and it’s just nice to see a sane, familiar face in the room. Do hope that they somehow keep him on. Be fun to see Lois as well…Jax…some of the ol’ gang back.

I am having a ball watching the Nurse’s Ball! One verrrrry, happy viewer!

Except for Luke made me puke singing performance, i like this years Nurses Ball better than last years…Kathleen Gati deserves an emmy nomination next year…Kevin is a psychiatrist who needs to put Lucy on some meds…lol…the actor playing Ned also appears on Days so his stay on GH is apparently short!!!

yes I know about Wally Kurth (Ned). I’m still hoping he stays on GH…not sure if that’s doable. Or, at the least that he makes frequent visits.

Luke was appropriately horrible because he’s playing a despicable character so well that he makes my skin crawl… If he was the good-natured Luke doing the same song I’d probably have thought it was fun.

Luke was brilliantly terrible but hopefully no more singing for him in the future(he was better than me…lol) I like Wally on both shows but its nice to see another Q on GH!!!

Who sings the song “Criminal Love” that was on today’s episode?

Never thought I would say this, because I used to enjoy the nurse’s ball episodes. This year, they just…suck. Awful songs, terrible renditions, why did they make poor “Emma” “dance”? That travesty was at least interrupted by (was that Bread?) I couldn’t understand “Spencer’s” words…the sub-stories around the ball are good, as usual, but the “talent” is just not watchable, in my opinion. Which is why I have the ff button.

who sings that song criminal love cant find it anywhere and its driving me crazy

I usually like the nurses ball but I think this year’s nurses ball was not that great at all. It’s like they didn’t put any effort into it. I fast forwarded basically all of the performances. I hope they step it up for next year.
