In an new video released by NBC and Hulu. Days of our Lives stars, Alison Sweeney (Sami) and Galen Gering (Rafe) answer some questions sent in my fans of the soap.  One in particular mentions if Sami would get back together with EJ.  So, who should ultimately be Sami’s man? Rafe, or EJ?

Watch this Video of the Day on the On-Air On-Soaps homepage and let us know who is the perfect man for Sami Brady.

Love Alison and would love to see her get with EJ. Detest the Rafe character as he is the most boring obnoxious twit ever and anytime he is on, it is immediate ff.

I love Alison Sweeney very much and she is a wonderful actress and i must say Rafe is the first relationship that Sami has ever been in where the guy isn’t hurting her. EJ is scum to Sami and he hurts her and he will ALWAYS cause pain to Sami and he is so heartless that he can watch Sami who is the woman he claims to love cry and breakdown over her child being dead and he continue this very same action with Sami two more times. He didn’t just kidnap Sami’s daughter but he also made her think her child was DEAD (3X). That is sick. Rafe loves Sami and he stood by Sami all this time and he got her through all her bad times when EJ was hurting her last year and trying to take her child away from her.

Go SAFE, they are the supercouple of DOOL and the endgame

Sami isn’t some innocent heroine here! Sami Brady is a hellfire and to want her as anything else is a disservice to her character. She lied about who the father of her “child” was, and didn’t tell him until she “died”. Rafe isn’t some great wonderful guy because he went along with the lie as well, and illegally tried to adopt a child that wasn’t his. It was wrong of EJ to make Sami think THEIR child was dead, but I’ve seen his remorse and love for her these last couple of months and I’m someone who was royally pissed at him since the reveal of the 2nd Sydnapping.

Rafe only wants to play Hero to Sami! He’s more upset that he didn’t bring Sydney home like he promised. Sami isn’t a Damsel in distress, and that’s who Rafe wants her to be. She doesn’t get to ask him questions about his past, but she must be an open book to him. He can lie to her whenever he wants, but she must never lie to him and play “Stepford Wife”. As a long time Sami fan I don’t think so. Sami can grow, but Rafe wants her to become somene she’s not. Rafe is all about Rafe! EJ and Sami have done plenty of things to each other, good and bad. But in the end the two are always pulled back to each other. Sami doesn’t need a HERO, she needs a man who will love her for who she is and not ask her to change….That isn’t Rafe!

If Rafe is looking for a woman to play hero to Carly, Hope, and Chloe are wonderful options for the writers IMO.

Safe are nowhere near being Super anything on Days! Bo and Hope are the last of the Supercouples on Days. Days have couples now that change whenever the writers desire it.

In my opinion, Sami lying to EJ about the existence of their daughter period, then waiting until the child (believed to be their daughter) was already DEAD to tell him about her, is on the same level as EJ allowing Sami to believe that Sydney was dead too. Just because Grace was not the Dimera child doesn’t change Sami’s actions, or the pain/grief that EJ had to live with for months, believing that he had a child that died before he was even granted the privilege of holding her hands as she lay dying. Rafe was involved in this lie and as for standing by Sami, if he couldn’t forgive a lie that eventually brought Sami’s child back to her safe and sound, he’s not such a stand up guy either. I mean, the child should be the most important thing, not Rafe’s wounded pride and ego. Anyone that can’t forgive, can’t truly love either, IMO.

Speak the truth Aribella.

Our G-Man Rafe is the only man for our Princess Sami.

SAFE dreams are the best

Rafe still has some major skeletons in the closet…like what happened with his last girlfriend? And why did her sister try to kill him? And why did Arianna say something like “Why are you doing this again?” when he started falling for Sami???

Helena…. There is No Princess Sami on Days! Maybe you confused her with Princess Gina, Princess Greta, or Princess Katerina.

Samantha Brady is a hellcat and far from anything Princess, and as a Sami fan from the day she showed up on screen, I don’t wish that on her. Spunky, fiesty, loving, mother tiger is the only Sami I want in Salem. They day I accept Sami as a Princess is the day EJ becomes a Prince and marries her..LOL

SAFE all the way.
The only way to go
SAFE is the best couple that has happen to days in a long time.

Sami and Rafe are not a couple. They were together for about 3 minutes. They couldn’t overcome the smallest of obstacles without breaking up. How will they handle the tough ones that come with families, finance, etc? Seriously, never were and shouldn’t be a couple. They do not work.

Maxine, EJ raped Sami and he kidnapped her daughter and told Sami her daughter was DEAD three (3X) times and he watched her grieve for Sydney and even after he brought Syd home he was still planning to have more revenge on Sami.

HOW CAN YOU CALL THAT LOVE?

SAFE is the only way to go and I hope this is what DOOl will do because Sami deserves much more than what EJ is giving her and will continue to do to Sami.

Sami has been threw so much. Ej has done nothing but bring her down, and cause her so much pain. I know sami isnt blameless in the whole thing shes done tons of bad stuff. but the stuff shes done hasnt been as bad as what Ej does. I think SAFE is the smart choice i really do. Every break up they have had is because Stephano or ej orchistrated it. lying getting sami to believe stuff that wasnt true. and as far as sami not wanting ej to know hes the father of syndney well look at what he does when he does know? I mean come on SAFE all the way.

Jackie,

The only reason why Sami had to lie about her pregnancy from EJ is because she knew her child would be in danger. Stefano is the perfect example of why Sami is so afraid to be in a relationship with EJ because Sami knows what Stefano will do to her and her children.

Even now that Sami is living in the mansion with EJ, Stefano can still speak the words of hatred for Sami. Sami saved Stefano’s son life on the pier and Stefano still cannot say thanks to Sami or at least give her a chance.

Rafe will never hurt Sami the way EJ continues to hurt Sami.

The Stefano excuse didn’t come about until she found out Nicole was pregnant with Ej’s baby and the WTP was a convenient out for her to keep the news from EJ.

Everyone always forgets about that.

Sami and EJ have hurt each other, true. That’s what makes them so much fun to watch. Not to mention the chemistry between AS/JS. Writers used to appreciate it and would give their right arms for it, but on DAYS they don’t seem to care about it.

Rafe has hurt Sami by his constant walking out when things don’t go his way. He’s very passive aggressive.

Say it with me, RAPE is not love and it’s not ROMANCE

SAFE all the way

ITA, this is not Law & Order SVU, I want to watch romance not a woman being tortured and terrorized (Sydnapping …. )

Rafe & Sami are a true romance!

I’m sorry, did I miss where someone said it was? Is that all ya got cuz the writers addressed that, Sami’s moved on from it and had another baby with EJ and is living in the DiMansion with him.

Obviously, she’s not worried.

You are very offensive. That is your opinion. Others have different perspectives, Sami included and she would be the only one who truly knows in her heart what happened between them, hence Sydney, and living with the man she has always loved. If you don’t like the pairing, fine, but please come up with a valid and present reason for not liking them. That just won’t work anymore.

Deb, if this were Law and Order, Rafe and Sami wouldn’t be together. He is a FBI guy and she has a criminal record……yeah she’s bad, and although she doesn’t deserve him, EJ loves her so they should be together.

That’s not fair, i started watching Sami when she was in WPP and i fell in love with her and Rafe.

Her girls are always out in every episode and she is super hot with Rafe.

Didn’t see her with EJ but i like Rafe for Sami.

Roger once you do see her with EJ, they’ll be no going back.

Have fun.

The main thing here is who is better for Sami, correct?

Well it’s Rafe. Rafe speaks to Sami with caring, he makes love to Sami gently and he kisses her softly and gently

Rafe is better for her sister, Carrie.

Rafe doesn’t even know who Sami truly is.

What? You must have the two confused. Sorry EJ kisses are the best.

ITA with Aribella

Go SAFE

EJ and Sami all the way…I’ve watched Days for 26 years back when supercouples meant something and EJ and Sami have that chemistry that she doesn’t have with anyone else. Neither are perfect…Sami from the 90’s early 2000s was quite the mastermind of plots to win this guy or that and we all know EJ’s cunning schemes.

I am an Ejami fan all the way, Can’t stand Rafe.
Rafe is not the right guy for Sami. He does not understand how to love her unconditionally, like the good , the bad and everything in between.
EJ and Samantha have a lot of chemistry , passion .

A definite no brainer. EJ and Sami. Best thing on Days!

Is there seriously a choice! Definately EJ, who loves her just as she is. Rafe is an arrogant, obnoxious character who only wants Sami when she’s “behaving”!

I prefer Sami with EJ! AS and JS just have amazing chemistry and are wonderful in scenes together. I gave Safe a chance, but they just don’t have the it factor that I see with the EJ and Sami character. Rafe is just too bland for a character like Sami, and Sami becomes bland in scenes with him. EJ and Sami have enough story and history to create drama, and that’s what a soap is all about.

Honestly, I’d like to see the writers try Carly and Rafe. I thought they had pretty good on screen chem in their scenes.

So Michael the answer is easy to your question, it’s Rafe.

Rafe loves Sami wholeheartedly

GO SAFE

EJ has loved Sami since they first met…4 years ago…

He loves Sami? Last summer i watch how brutal he was to Sami and Rafe stood in Sami’s corner. Did you watch the video? The above clip?

Alison Sweeney and Galen have major chemistry. Look at how loving and sweet they are with each other. They are not forced.

Rafe doesn’t know who Sami is. She’s playing this boring old Stepford Wife and I never thought the sad day would come when Sami was boring. 🙁

What?

Sami is not boring!!

It’s because you EJAMI’S don’t like Rafe and that is fine because we don’t like EJ.

Sami is not boring, she had to down play the pass year and a half because of the s/l and losing a child. Ali commented on her FB page that the producers and Gary wanted her to dress a certain way too to show the affect of the change that Sami has been going through since the death of her baby (GRACE).

Love SAFE, GO SAFE

EJ raped Sami did you forget that? He hurt Sami, he literally RAPED Sami in a car. Like OMG how can you want him with Sami?

Ali (Sami) deserves a good man and Rafe is that man for Sami.

SAFE baby

EJ is the only man for Sami. They need each other and they complete each other. They have more chemistry than any couple I have ever seen before on any soap!

There is no one for Sami but EJ. They are the main reason I returned to Days in the first place and certainly are the reason I watch today.

EJ and Samantha are a golden pair!
These two flawed characters are just perfect for each other and so meant to be!!!!

EJami and only EJami.

EJ and Sami are the best couple in Daytime, hands down! They have smoking hot chemistry and are what super couples are made of.

I definitely agree !!!!!!!!! EJAMI ALL THE WAY!!!!!!!!

Yes, EJAMI all the way.

p.s. We all have different perspectives as to what happened in their past. Let in rest. Obviously Sami is loving EJ right now…..I don’t want to be mean, but really, who is Rafe after all. Everyone keeps calling him the good guy. Do we even know that he is a good guy? Just because you’re a cop (no offence to all the wonderful policeman and policewoman), doesn’t mean you’re automatically a good person. We really don’t know much about him. He protected her, she’s grateful….they’re not in love. EJAMI cannot and should not be apart. It just isn’t natural.

Let’s just all try to get along.

EJ & Sami are the perfect pair. They need to be together. I love Sami & have just always found that every other man that she has been with except EJ has wanted her to be a goody goody girl which isn’t true to Sami. EJ is the only man that accepts her the way she is. And Sami I think is the only woman that can keep EJ from going all DiMera.

This is a quote from Sami herself. She is talking to Austin in May 2006. Shortly after EJ comes to Salem.

“That’s what I want. I want someone new. I want a man who wants me. He wants me so bad, that he’s gonna fight for me. He’s gonna make me stop dreaming about the man that I can’t have . . . I want more kids. I want a big family. I want a house that’s filled with love . . . I’m just human too, ya know? I’m lonely. I’m lonely even when I’m with you because I’m not the woman that you want.”

EJ is her soul mate and he is hers.

Sami was describing Rafe. What she said to Austin was about the kind of man and relationship she wanted. She wanted Rafe and the kind of real relationship he can offer her.

Sami loves Rafe and should be with Rafe.

SAFE all the way!

Wishful thinking Ann.

Not at all, just stating the obvious. Sami loves and wants Rafe. He is the man she described to Austin but she hadn’t met him yet. Wonder if the writers remembered that when they decided to write in the character of Rafe.

The writers give Safe fans crumbs because their fanbase is so futile. Ejami fans have been it for the long haul for years. We have faced bigger obstacles than this and thrived. Keep posting about Ejami though, it gives us even more buzz!

This is easy. It’s always been EJ. Sami uses other men as a diversion, and to build a wall between her and the man she really loves, EJ. She does this because she is afraid she could actually have all the dreams of a man loving and wanting her first, and having a family. Having your dreams come true is scary, if you’re as insecure as Sami, and afraid you couldn’t survive losing it all.

I have to say its EJ all the way. He has loved her and has stood by her for 4 years. Sure we can all say EJ has done some bad things. But lets look at it this way.. EJ raped Sami, Sami raped Austin. EJ kidnapped Sydney, Sami didn’t tell EJ about his daughter. EJ told Sami Sydney was dead, Sami didn’t tell EJ Grace was his daughter until she was dead. So as far as I am concerned they have both done terrible things. I love the chemistry of EJAMI no other man makes her feel the way EJ does.

EJ of course. Its the main reason I watch DAYS-EJAMI! Their story is about starcrossed lovers whose familes despise them. Its got more angst than any story I have ever witnessed. James is a great actor and he makes Alison even better than she has always been. Rafe is a one note character and makes Sami dull. Give me EJAMI or goodbye DOOL.

For me I have to say that it is EJami. They are the reason I came back to watching Days. The way they look at each other takes my breathe away. So many words communicated in their eyes and body language. They are meant to be and always well be.

Michael……. the answer is simple for me! The man for Sami is EJ! Ali and James just have such great chemistry I find it hard not to root for their characters to be together. As a fan whose grown up watching Sami Brady in all her mischief; I finally think she’s met her match with EJ.

Rafe’s an okay guy, but he’s just not the guy for her.

Rafe for Sami

Galen and Ali have off the charts chemistry

SAFE

What?? Are we watching the same show? 😉 Just kidding!!!! But honestly, in my opinion (of course up for discussion) Rafe and Sami are like brother and sister. But James and Ali as EJ AND SAMI are hot and great and interesting together, unless the writers screw them up, which happens most of the time. 🙁

So for me it’s no biggie: EJ AND SAMI belong together. They could have great stories together, scheme together, fight a lot and then make up a lot ! That would be hot and fun to watch

I’m a viewer who tried to fight my attraction to them. I didn’t need to see another interloper between Sami and Lucas, but that dance on the tango did me in. I couldn’t fight that chemistry, it was mesmerizing and as hard as Corday and his teams of writers have tried to turn me against them, it’s that chemistry that overcomes the horrific writing for them.

Can’t Corday imagine how many fans Ejami would have if he wanted to write FOR them instead of AGAINST them? Sami and EJ need no propping, the writers don’t show them the love they do Safe and yet, they have legions of fans, organic, unplanned and that’s because casting captured lightening in a bottle, found two actors who sizzle when they’re in a room together.

Corday should capitilize on that instead of throwing it away. Most soaps would kill for it, Corday should capitilize on that instead of throwing it away.

I agree. Galen and Ali, as Sami and Rafe, have off the charts chemistry. They are smokin hot together and have brought real romance back to Days, the kind that has been missing for many years now.

Thank you to the Days writing team!

Ali / Sami is best paired with Rafe / Galen

Go SAFE

EJ is the only one I will accept Sami with. All you have to do is see those two
together and you just know they were meant to be. I don’t care about Rafe at all,not one little bit,not one iota.

Well I can’t help but laugh when I hear a Safer call Safe a super couple because they obviously have no idea what the word means.

I choose EJami and always will. Only EJ loves Sami in this deep passionate and never-ending way, no one else ever has, and certainly not Rafe. He’s always seemed like he can do better, like he coudl take her or leave her.

EJami’s chemistry has always been the most undeniable I have ever seen on DAYS, even haters can admit that. EJami are the reason I watch DAYS.

I can deny the chemistry between Ejami, because I don’t see it. Chemistry is subjective.

To me, SAFE has the best chemistry and they seem like a real couple. They are what got me sucked in to message boards and Twitter. GO SAFE!

Maybe you can deny it, but even DAYS actors have said they’ve seen the chemistry and so have people who hate EJami,so that’s all I need to hear.
Alison and Galen have a longstanding friendship that’s why I see friendship chemistry with Sami and Rafe as I did with Lumi(though Alison and Bryan’s chemistry was far stronger). But I see nothing romantic, and when they’re together it’s almost as if Alison loses her appeal to me. They don’t have one ounce of couple-like chemistry to me. But that’s just me.

There’s something we have in common, EJami sucked me into the message boards I hadn’t even known existed.

You know how often I’ve read posts of fans who don’t care for Ejami but don’t deny their chemistry?

Rafe just puts me to sleep.

Ejami!!!! They are the best and most exciting to watch!! None other can even compare! They are so hot that every time they are on, we risk our tv screens melting!! It doesn’t matter if they are fighting or loving, the chemistry from these just ooze!!!

I am for Ejami all the way and have been since the first day EJ dropped
that towel. Both Sami and EJ are gray characters, but together they become RED HOT !! Best onscreen chemistry I’ve ever seen.

Ejami, hands down the best pairing that Days has going for them. Allison and James fill the room when they are on screen. EJ and Samantha are the stars in this Drama all others are merely satellites to these stars.

Sami should be with EJ. They are perfect for each other and not your typical cookie cutter soap couple.

SAFE!!! All the way!

Sami and EJ belong together. I believe they are cut from the same cloth and therefore, have unlimited capacity to understand each other, to forgive and accept each other’s flaws with unconditional love.

EJ and Sami are soulmates!! They’re equals in every way- whether it be in how passionately they love or how dirty they fight.

There is no question!! Sami and Rafe belong together. Rafe is the first man who has actually stood by Sami without mentally and emotionally abusing her. He loves her unconditionally and she him. It’s SAFE all the way, baby!!

I thought Rafe would be good for Sami in the beginning, but he has proven to me that it’s all about him. He walks out on Sami at the drop of a dime and expects her to walk the line with him, and that is emotional abuse IMO. He’s basically telling her “if you don’t do what I want, then I’ll leave”. He can’t forgive her for doing what she believed needed to be done to get her daughter back, and yet EJ in all his darkness found it within himself to forgive the woman he loved for lying to him about their child.

Why does Rafe feel he has to solve this kidnapping in order to fix things with Sami? Because if he’s not playing her hero and have her grateful to him then they have no relationship. She begged him back and he still walked away. As a Sami fan, I don’t want her begging any man to love her. She’s done enough of that with most of the man in her life.

EJ may have flaws, but he’s always loved Sami for who she is. The Sami Brady whose lied, cheated, schemed, kidnapped, and raped. Rafe loves Sami when she’s following his orders. Rafe’s treatment of Sami is what have kept me from being a Safe fan, because in the end he really isn’t that “Safe”.

He walks out over the simplest things. I’ve never seen a grown man threaten to take his ball and go home more than he does.

EJ is the man for Sami

EJAMI 🙂

SAFE DREAMS ARE THE SWEETEST

Alison honey you have the best love story with our FBI agent Rafe.

Sami’s true love is Rafe

SAFE loving

Wouldn’t there be a conflict with Sami being with her FBI guy? Afterall she does have a criminal record.

EJ and Sami all the way!!!!!!!!!

Hands down Ejami. They have everything going for them: chemistry, family, history, adventure. I love every minute that they share together! Thanks for asking!

EJ is the only man for her. Rafe leaves her at the drop of a hat if she isn’t doing what he wants her to do. He is condescending to the point it is abusive. EJ flaws and all loves her for her and wants her for who she is and constantly reassures her of her worth! Go EJ & Samantha! Bring it on!

I had quit watching soap operas in 2005. It had turned into the same ole’ same ole and I had no desire to start watching again. One day while off from work I was flipping channels and happened to stop when I saw this guy in a towel talking to a woman in a bathing suit. I knew who the woman was, Sami Brady, because Days was the soap that I had quit. But I didn’t know who the guy was, but I immediately noticed he “sparked” with Sami and she “sparked” back!!! In other words, mad chemistry. And it definitely wasn’t the same ole same ole.

To make a long story short, EJ and Sami drew me back to soaps.

If you haven’t yet guessed, I prefer EJami. They are the only couple for me.

It’s funny you came back for EJ and Sami, because I was getting ready to take a break from Days and seeing those two kept me watching.

EJ and Sami have the history, drama, children, and family to create great stories for the writers. They just need to give the two the chance, because they don’t need any third party interference.

I can’t even believe this is a serious question. EJAMI has the ultimate soap story behind them…their love is a forbidden love that has endless storyline possibilities, not to mention the amazing HOT chemistry they have on screen. I watch Days for EJAMI and their undeniable talent. I want MORE!

Ejami or nothing for me! I will not watch Sami be with any other man but Ej. Ej loves his Samantha without even thinking about it. It is in his blood and part of his Destiny to Always Love her. Sami needs a man that Loves her for who she is and not someone who is always walking away from her. Ejami do terrible things to each other but they couldn’t hurt each other so bad if they did not LOVE each other so much. They also share two children that they BOTH love very much and want to give them a happy home and I believe that is with each other. Ej & Sami Are the Perfect Couple and have the Best Chemistry on Daytime TV. Days of Our Lives is very Lucky to have such Amazing actors as Ali & James. EJAMI IS HERE TO STAY!!!

Sami should be with Rafe, of course! They are so awesome together!

Sami belongs with Rafe! More SAFE, please!!

Yep, Sami belongs with Rafe not the guy who raped her and continues to hurt her.

How can DOOL write a love story for a woman who was raped by the man she is suppose to be in love with?

Have not heard of Luke and Laura the greatest soap couple ever?

Ej and Sami may have had some really bad moments, but at least they don’t put anyone to sleep.

SAFE reunion now please writers, give us SAFE.

I miss Sami snuggling with Rafe in bed.

Sami needs a man who treats her with respect, who doesn’t abuse her physically or mentally. Who doesn’t use her & whose love remains true….

That spells only one man… RAFE

The man who Sami had to change her entire personality to fit with.

He does abuse her, he’s just more subtle about.

I came back to Days when EJ arrived. What chemistry! EJAMI all the way! EJ is the only one who loves her as Sami is. We are all just waiting for them to finally get together and stay that way for more than a few minutes! EJAMI!!! NO QUESTION!

EJ and Sami, also known as EJAMI hands down the best couple on DOOL . The reason many of us watch, they belong together!!! They share a history, a strong chemistry, and an undeniable passion that burns through the TV screen…

The Rafe & Sami love story is the best thing that has happened to Days in years! The solid chemistry between these two is electric! Days was doing beautifully in developing this great love story….then for some unwise reasoning, has cut short some amazingly potential storylines between these two characters….the trend to put Sami with EJ is so distasteful that it is hard to watch…the fact that she admires him not knowing his lying and manipulations she has had to endure because of him, is just too much…I hope she is not paired with EJ…I will not be able to continue viewing Days…we watch soaps to escape and enjoy the fantasy…..anxiety and suffering you can get in real life!

Sami and Rafe belong together. Rafe is the first real, true, honest and mature relationship that Sami has ever been in. This is what Sami needs….Rafe.

SAFE = Love and romance!

Loving me some SAFE and Sami is so rediant in bed when she makes love with Rafe.

Rafe is such a HOTTIE w/ Sami.

Sami’s finally got herself the package, the handsome guy, smart, loyal, honest and sweet and romantic all at the same time.

Sami will make up with Rafe when he returns to Salem. SAFE all the way and just like last summer, Sami will be with Rafe.

EJ doesn’t compare to Rafe. EJ is low and worthless and he will never have Sami’s heart.

SAFE, SAFE, SAFE, SAFE, SAFE, SAFE

You’re right EJ and Rafe can’t compare because Rafe can’t even come up to EJ’s level. Rafe leaves at the drop of a hat, every time things get a bit rough and things don’t go his way, he leaves. EJ never left after all the times he got screwed over by Sami, he stayed by her because he loves her.

True Love understands and true love forgives and both Sami and EJ have forgiven each other for huge things. Rafe couldn’t forgive Sami for doing what she believed was right to save Sydney, he couldn’t forgive her even though that action didn’t require his forgiveness. He’s only angry because he couldn’t be the hero.

And it’s plain as day that EJ is winning Sami’s heart. All she has yet to say is “I love you” and it was obvious that was what she was leading up to in today’s Canadian Eppy before she kissed him.

I just want to see the hot sexy mama in bed with someone.

One of my favorite moment of Sami in bed that i remember from recent is from NYE night. She looked rock on hot lying in bed with Rafe.

Hey Alison Sweeney does your husband get jealous of you kissing these men? Because i would if you were my wife.

Awww i love that pic of Sami hugging Rafe.

Sami man is Rafe hands down

SAFE

I miss Sami with Rafe and i hope they will reunite soon or by the ending of this month.

Go SAFE

Gosh…… I have to go with EJ on this one! The last couple of weeks I’ve really come to like the two together. I really didn’t think I could come to like EJ after he kidnapped Sydney and his actions after, but he looks remorseful and I do believe he loves Sami. I’d also like to add that their family moments together are really sweet.

Soooo easy..
Sami and EJ!!! Hands down!

Sami and EJ are cut from the same cloth. Please just give us Ejami.

This week, DAYS head scribe, Ron Carlivati, confirmed that, and told Michael Fairman TV on the decision of the scripts the team submitted: “I like to have some humor, but it was also the funeral, and then there was Sarah (Linsey Godfrey) giving birth, and then Vivian’s (Louise Sorel) crashing the reading of the will.”

Days Of Our Lives

Matthew Ashford and Melissa Reeves Talk Return to DAYS for Doug’s Funeral, Susan Seaforth Hayes, and Their Enduring Friendship

Last week, Days of our Lives celebrated the taping of their 15,000th episode which is tentatively scheduled to air on December 3rd. The story will feature emotional and heart-tugging scenes of Doug Williams funeral and honor his portrayer, the beloved Bill Hayes, who passed away on January 12th at the age of 98.

While the actors, producers, and crew took a lunch time break to pose for some pictures and speak with the press, they knew they would have to get back to taping the funeral, which was going to make it a tough day, but also cathartic for all who loved Bill Hayes.

Several returns have thus far been announced including; Melissa Reeves reprising her signature role of Jennifer Horton (a part she first played in 1985), and Matthew Ashford as Jack Deveraux. Reeves had last appeared on the show back in 2021, and she was replaced by Emmy-winner Cady McClain in her absence when Jennifer was in storylines. In real-life, Melissa had moved full-time to Tennessee along with her husband, Scott Reeves (ex-DAYS, GH, Y&R). Now, and as previously reported, Reeves will first appear back on DAYS for the Thanksgiving episodes with the Hortons.

Michael Fairman TV caught up with Matt and Melissa during the 15,000th episode celebration to get their take on: being back for these special episodes, how it has been working with and watching Susan Seaforth Hayes portray Julie’s grief over losing Doug, and how they have supported each other through the years. Check out what they shared below.

Melissa, you are back on the set of Days of our Lives for this very emotional and special moment in the series history. How does it feel?

MELISSA: Oh, my goodness. I am honored. I wouldn’t want to be anywhere else but to be here for Bill. He was like my real-life dance partner. He taught me how to ballroom dance. And to be here for Susan, of course, who’s just been our sweet hero this whole week. We’re just following her lead. She’s just been this incredibly strong example for us in the midst of this trial and season of her life. She is like just lifting us all up with her. It’s been incredible.

I was at Bill Hayes memorial service which was truly incredible and I know at the time you were in Tennessee. It was moving and celebratory of his life, all at the same time.

MELISSA: That’s all I have heard. I have to watch it on You Tube. They said it was just a real celebration of his life and I love that.

This must be difficult for Susan Seaforth Hayes depicting the death of Doug, when she is still grieving the loss of her beloved husband. (Susan pictured above with the returning Stephen Schnetzer who plays her on-screen brother, Steve Olson).

MELISSA: I’m sure Susan has those moments at home by herself, but she’s so good at being a leader and leading all of us. We’re following her, you know, and she’s like, “This is how I want to feel today.” And we’re just going along with her, you know? It’s so sweet.

How is it to see Matt Ashford again live and in-person?

MELISSA: You know, Matt and I can go years without talking, or seeing each other, and then the minute we see each other we’re chatting away.

MATT: Melissa was out on set doing a scene yesterday on the phone talking to a stage manager; as she was telling some really tough news on the phone. I’m like crying in the background, literally, I’m off-stage crying.

MELISSA: And then we get like back into normal life, and we’re like, okay, “What’s happening? What’s happening with this … or what’s happening with that?”

I had read, Melissa, that you were in touch with Matt about if there night be a possibility for you to reprise your role as Jennifer for these special episodes?

MELISSA: Yes. Well, Matt was like, “Hey! Would you want to come back? “And I was like, “Matt, you know, I would always come back. ”

MATT:  Every time I come here to Days of our Lives, they ask, “Where’s Missy? How’s Missy?” Everybody backstage says, “I miss her.” All of the crew is asking about her and saying, “It would be nice to see Missy. Nothing wrong with you Matt, but …”  They said, “Where is she?” I said, “She wants to come!”

There are some beautiful photos of Missy and Bill and Susan thorough the years that I found. It just reminded me of just the deep and entrenched history we all have had with the show, personally and professionally.

MATT: Missy is roughly the age where Francis Reid (ex-Alice Horton) was when she started the show, which is just crazy.

I’ve always said Missy was going to be the next generation Alice. Do you feel that Jennifer is the heir apparent matriarch of the Horton family?

MELISSA: Yes. I mean, this has been greatest blessing of my life, and that would be great. I told Ken Corday (executive producer, Days of our Lives) when I was 17 that this show would be my life. Ken always told me, “This is your home,” and I’ve always felt like that.

How have gotten through the scenes watching Susan Seaforth Hayes as Julie go through the loss of Doug?

MATT: Susan is bringing her best performance life for her and Bill. I mean, she’s a showbiz baby. She always has been one hundred percent, and she’s doing it for him, and this is who they’ve always been. So, you’re seeing this amazing performance colored by her life. She has her private life as Susan, but she has enough plugged into Julie that she’s done amazing work. The director, producers and writers are giving her room to live in these moments and it’s quite wonderful.

Have you already broken down in tears during the taping?

MELISSA: Yesterday, but today’s taping of the actual funeral I think they want us to try and be just more celebratory.

MATT: I mean, it is a beautiful long life for Bill Hayes and his character of Doug Williams, and so it will be about that. Then, you get a bunch of us together in the church pews, and there’s going to be hijinks.

MELISSA: We all have been through the waves of grief. You have that awful cry and then all of a sudden you feel okay.  There are those family situations we are portraying where you’re like, “What do we do? What do we do now? You know, no one knows what to do. But, it’s so sweet. I’m looking forward to seeing how the scenes all turn out.

So, are you glad that Matt and Melissa are back for the 15K episode and Doug’s funeral? From what we can tell, it’s going to be quite an emotional journey for Days of our Lives fans, and especially the performance of Susan Seaforth Hayes,

Days Of Our Lives

Ron Carlivati Talks on Decision to Make Days of our Lives 15000th Episode About Doug’s Funeral, and Previews Chances for WGA Award

This week, Days of our Lives celebrated the taping of their 15,000th episode. In of it itself, that is an incredible accomplishment for the long-running soap opera currently streaming on Peacock.

However, this on set gathering was a bit different. Though the show is celebrating their achievement, they are also in the middle of taping scenes surrounding the death and the funeral of Doug Williams, played by the late Bill Hayes, who passed away on January 12th of this year at the age of 98.

As previously revealed many longtime favorites are back to honor Bill and the character of Doug including: Gloria Loring (Liz), Melissa Reeves (Jennifer), Matthew Ashford (Jack), Maree Cheatham (Marie), Victoria Konefal (Ciara) and Stephen Schnetzer (Steve) to name but a few.

Michael Fairman TV was in attendance and spoke with Days of our Lives head writer, Ron Carlivati to gain some insight into how the 15,000 episode was crafted and the decision to honor the character of Doug Williams and Bill Hayes as its epicenter. In addition, Ron weighed-in on this Sunday’s April 14th WGA (Writers Guild of America) Awards, where he and his writing team are facing off with General Hospital for the daytime drama prize. Here’s what Ron shared below.

Was this your idea to make the 15,000th episode centered around Doug’s funeral and passing?

RON: It was. When you’re looking at it, and laying out the calendar for the whole year and you see 15,000 is coming up, we’re like, “What are we going to do?” And then, we got the news that Bill had passed away and something kind of clicked. I was like, “We should honor Doug on that show.” So then, we started to kind of build around that … when does he pass away? How does he pass away? Who could come back? You know, it’s a lot.  I’m very pleased with the returns that we got as there’s so much that you could do. We wanted everybody we could get. So, we put together a wish list and Janet Drucker (co-executive producer, Days of our Lives) made it happen.

You have Melissa Reeves back as Jennifer, when the role was last played by Cady McClain. What has it meant to have Missy back for these shows?

RON: It was so nice to see Missy Reeves. I think Cady has done such a good job, but on the 15,000th episode to see Missy as Jennifer, it’s a big deal. So having her was great, and overall, the milestone was a big undertaking, because you want to live up to it. You want the 15,000th episode to be good. Now, it has a lot of real emotion that you’re playing. because for the cast and the crew they’re honoring Bill Hayes just as much as we’re honoring Doug Williams.

Was it hard for you and the team to write this episode?

RON: Yes. I’ll tell you why it was hard to write.  When I wrote, for example, Asa’s (Phillip Carey) death on One Life to Live or Victor’s (John Aniston) on DAYS, Asa is a different type of character. Like, you could have characters going, “Oh! I’m glad he is dead.” You could have different points of view, but with Doug, you’re not having that. Every person loves this man. No one had a bad relationship with him. So, you’re challenge as a writer is how do you make it that not everybody’s saying the same thing and doing the same thing. And so, we tried to find ways to make the episode about all the familial relationships and yet, how do you make it about Doug and yet broaden the scope.

Photo: JPI

I had spoken to Susan Seaforth Hayes (Julie), a week after Bill’s memorial, for an interview. She said that she felt very fortunate that you did include her on discussions of how you would tackle Doug’s passing. How did that conversation go?

RON: First, I attended Bill’s funeral, which was incredible. I said to so many people it was an emotional service, but it was hard to be sad at this. The guy had an incredible life and it was an incredible celebration. And so, you’re sitting there watching this knowing that you now have to write something similar. And how do you write something that lives up to what you just witnessed? I wanted to talk to Susan to get her thoughts about, you know, how much do you want this to be about keeping Bill separate from Doug. How comfortable are you sharing your grief. She was incredible to talk to. It was a great chat.

You’re in the middle of taping these major scenes for the 15,000 episode to air in December. How do you think it’s going? Have you seen any of the scenes?

RON:  I haven’t seeing anything. I mean, we were still making changes to the script up till this morning!

Photo: JPI

The Writers Guild Awards are this Sunday, April 14th and once again this year there are two daytime drama nominees, General Hospital and Days of our Lives. How are you feeling about your chances this year?

RON: It is often just GH and us in the category. I’ve won three years in a row, so I’m kind of feeling like it’s their turn.

Photo: JPI

What episodes did you submit for contention? If I recall, they had to do with Victor’s memorial.

RON: The episodes we submitted were centered around Victor’s funeral. I think one has story with Vivian (Louise Sorel). We had some fun stuff, we had some emotional stuff at Victor’s death, and I am pretty sure that our submission was three episodes right around that time.

Did you make the decision to go with those episodes because there was a mix of humor and drama?

RON: I like to have some humor, but it was also the funeral, then there’s Sarah (Linsey Godfrey) giving birth, and then Vivian’s crashing the reading of the will. So, we had a lot of fun and it’s hard sometimes to pick three that tell a story, as opposed to submitting for the Daytime Emmys, where the writing team only submits two shows. So, we shall see how it goes on Sunday.
