Y&R Favorite Kristoff St. John Dies At 52
In heartbreaking and difficult news for us to deliver this morning, in a report via TMZ, our beloved Kristoff St. John (Neil Winters) of The Young and the Restless was found dead in his home on Sunday.
Law enforcement sources say that one of Kristoff’s friends went to check on him at the actor’s home in San Fernando Valley, and he found his body. Police and paramedics were alerted, but Kristoff was unresponsive when they arrived, and he was pronounced dead at the scene.
Sources say alcohol may have contributed to his death, but they did not suspect foul play. In additional updated information, the Los Angeles Police Department confirmed to PEOPLE, that a death investigation took place at around 2:05 pm on Sunday for a possible alcohol overdose. St. John was found dead at a home in Woodland Hills and was pronounced dead at 4:02 p.m. An autopsy is scheduled for Monday.
St John was one of the most noted actors of the soap genre. He has played Neil Winters on the top-rated soap opera sine 1991. During his run he garnered 9 Daytime Emmy Award nominations, was a two-time Daytime Emmy winner, and also received ten NAACP Image Awards.
Kristoff, who had already been an actor in his younger years. became a bigger name when he appeared on the defunct NBC soap, Generations. That soap centered around an African-American family, the Marshalls. Krisotff played the role of Adam Marshall. He then came to Genoa City to play Neil Winters.
St. John’s lawyer Mark Geragos tweeted a statement that read: “Few men had the unique strength, courage & sensitivity that @kristoffstjohn1 lived every single minute of every day. He impacted everyone he met and millions who he inspired and in turn admired him. On behalf of @MiaStJohnBoxer & @TheStJohnFamily thank you for all of your love.”
In his personal life, after his son, Julian took his own life while getting treatment at a mental health facility, St. John and his ex-wife Mia, became advocates for mental health awareness.
The last time St. John was known to be on social media was on January 21st, when he retweeted a tweet that read: “Grieving the loss of a child is a process. It begins on the day your child passes, and ends the day the parent joins them.”
Kristoff was engaged to model, Kseniya Mikhaleva. In her grief and heartache, she shared on Instagram, “So early…so early”, “Why are you leave so early?”, “Why…you are always in my heart.” She then posted a photo of herself with St. John stating: “How did it happen ??? How ??? Why did you leave so early ???? and left me alone ….. I can’t believe. You were everything to me …. you were a loving father, a loving man …..how.”
The talented actor left behind two daughters, Lola and Paris. More on this developing story to come.

I am absolutely HEARTBROKEN to hear about Mr. St. John’s passing this morning. I know he’s struggled since his son’s unfortunate death in 2014, and I am hoping that he is now at peace and with his son. My condolences to his family, friends and co-stars! This is a huge loss to the daytime community!

Totally shocked. Kristoff shared a lot with his fans, not only his talents on YR, but his keen sense of humor with those crazy dog clips, and his personal struggle after Julian’s death. He was a warm and generous person and will be missed. God bless his family.
I cannot believe this! I hope he has found the peace thag alluded him. He was not the same after his son committed suicide. Such a tragic ending. I hope Y&R respects his legacy and does NOT recast. They should release Lily from prison and bring Malcolm back full time. Recast of course. RIP and thank you for years of entertainment. Another downside is we will never see Drucilla Winters on camera again. Very sad day.

Unspeakably sad. I remember the first day a fresh faced Neil Winters entered the doors of Newman Enterprise. Drucilla had her sights on this handsome, brilliant young man from day one and took ballet lessons in order to win his heart.

So lovely, Harry….and so fitting. I couldn’t sleep, so I was just browsing through my iPad looking at pictures of my Alma Mater on the internet, when I noticed the announcement, on the sidelines, from the corner of my eye.
I thought to myself: Nah– can’t be!! So, I quickly went to the MF site; certain I would find a “Requiem”—and, here it is!!
Poor Kristoff must have been struggling with his demons since his son died, to have drunk himself to death……They are now together!!

Stunned to hear about Kristoff St John. Condolences for family,friends. Gone way too early. Great actor. So much for him to deal with suicide of son. Alcoholism, drug addiction, depression and other mental health issues are becoming epidemic. Need more treatment options and public education to view all of above as serious medical and psychological issues.
Like everyone that has read this shocking news, I am without words. I’ve watched Kristoff for years and have been recently dismayed when his storyline slowed once he returned back to work. He always seemed, from reading interviews with him, to be a very genuine and loving man that had a soul for those he loved. Prayers to his family, friends and the coworkers that he left behind. I know he touched everyone around him and can only imagine their shock and pain.

51st Annual Daytime Emmy Nominations Set to Be Announced
The National Academy of Television Arts and Sciences revealed on Wednesday via X, that this year’s 51st annual Daytime Emmy Nominations are set to be announced in full on Friday, April 19th at 12 pm ET/9 am PT.
However, four of the top award category nominations will be revealed on Thursday, April 18th across four entertainment news programs to kick things off.
Those include this Thursday episodes of Access Hollywood, E! News, Entertainment Tonight and Extra. Over the past few years, NATAS has often let the syndicated entertainment news program handle the duties of revealing the top actor and actress in a daytime drama series, but we shall see which categories the shows unveil this year.

As previously announced, the 51st annual Daytime Emmy Awards will be presented in ceremonies on Friday night, June 7th on CBS (8 – 10 PM, ET/delayed PT) on the CBS Television Network, and available to stream live and on-demand on Paramount+*.
The awards will be back at The Bonaventure hotel in downtown Los Angeles, where (the delayed due to the actors and writers strike) 50th annual Daytime Emmy Awards were held back in December of 2023.

The Daytime Emmy Awards have recognized outstanding achievement in television programming and crafts since 1974, honoring work in a variety of categories, including daytime dramas, talk shows, instructional programming, hosting, culinary, and legal/courtroom programs. In 2021, NATAS and the Television Academy jointly announced plans to realign the Daytime and Primetime Emmy Awards to be organized by content genre, as opposed to program airtime.
The 51st Daytime Emmy Nominations will honor the work and achievement from the calendar year of 2023.

CBS Orders Michele Van Jean Soap Opera ‘The Gates’ to Series; Set to Debut January 2025
Great news! Soap fans are getting the first new daytime drama in 25 years with the news today that CBS has moved Michele Van Jean’s The Gates to a series order.
In addition, the show is set to bow in January 0f 2025, which means that it appears that the new soap will replace The Talk, which was just canceled and will end after its upcoming 15th season in December of 2024. No specific time period, or exact premiere date has been set as of yet.
In the premise of the The Gates it follows lives of a wealthy Black family who live in a luxurious gated community.

The Gates has Val Jean as its writer, showrunner and one of its executive producers. Soap fans know Val Jean’s work best for her work on the writing teams of General Hospital and The Bold and the Beautiful. Taking to X, Michele shared: “It’s go time” citing the news on the show coming to CBS in 2025 via Deadline.
Sheila Ducksworth, Leon Russell, Derrick Johnson and Kimberly Doebereiner will serve as executive producers on The Gates production team. The soap has been in development through a the joint venture between CBS Studios and the NAACP, which was established to help elevate a diverse range of voices and increase the visibility of Black artists.
The series will be produced by the CBS Studios/NAACP venture in partnership with P&G Studios, which is a division of Procter & Gamble, who used to be very big in the soap opera game.

‘The Talk’ Renewed For 15th and Final Season to End in December; Does Its Cancellation Make Room for ‘The Gates’?
Things just got very interesting over at CBS daytime with the announcement today that The Talk is going to end its run on the network after its 15th season, and that season looks to be shortened as the series will come to its conclusion in December of 2024.
In a joint statement, Amy Reisenbach, President, CBS Entertainment and David Stapf, President, CBS Studio, shared, “The Talk broke new ground when it launched 14 years ago by returning daytime talk to CBS with a refreshing and award-winning format. Throughout the years, it has been a key program on CBS’ top rated daytime line-up as it brought timely, important and entertaining topics and discussions into living rooms around the globe.”
Reisenback and Stapf added, “It goes without saying that hosting and producing a year-round talk show is no easy task, and we express our sincere gratitude to our amazing hosts Akbar Gbajabiamila, Amanda Kloots, Natalie Morales, Jerry O’Connell and Sheryl Underwood, our Executive Producer/Showrunner Rob Crabbe and the hardworking producing team and crew.

Giving props to those who co-hosted or worked on the show through the years including: Sara Gilbert, Julie Chen Moonves, Carrie Ann Inaba Leah Ramimi, Marissa Janet Winokur, Holly Robinson Peete, Eve, Aisha Tyler, and Sharon Osbourne, the joint statement added, “We also want to acknowledge our former show hosts and colleagues who contributed throughout the seasons. We truly appreciate the skill, creativity, and dedication everyone involved brought to the show every day. And of course, we thank the numerous guests who appeared, and the millions of viewers who tuned in daily. For the final season, we plan to celebrate the show and give it the proper sendoff it deserves when it concludes in December 2024.”
While no firm decision or announcement has been given at this time, it seems most likely that The Talk’s time slot could be given to the new soap opera in development The Gates from CBS Studio Ventures and from longtime soap opera writer. Michele Val Jean. As previously reported, The Gates features the lives of a wealthy Black family who reside in a posh, gated community.

The Talk was originally the brainchild of Sara Gilbert, who had developed the show when it launched back 2010 and it replaced the beloved As the World Turns which went off the air after 54 years when CBS canceled it.
