CBS Daytime is also getting into the soapy November Sweeps performance and celebrations as both The Young and the Restless and The Bold and the Beautiful showed strong gains for the ratings week of November 9-13th.

However,  it was the dynamo that is The Young and the Restless that had another 5 million plus total viewer average for a ratings period this year (5.02 million), delivering its best performance since the week ending April 10th. With baby Christian, supposedly dying, and grieving parents Nick  (Joshua Morrow) and Sage (Kelly Sullivan) falling apart, and Victor (Eric Braeden) confronting Adam (Justin Hartley) that he is the baby daddy, and the doctor who is up to no good who is duping Sharon (Sharon Case), and the Neil/Hilary/Devon story (Kristoff St.John/Mishael Morgan/Bryton James) , the series increased up +3% from last week.  In key women demographics, Y&R averaged 1.9/12 in women 25-54, up +6% from a week ago and best since the week ending July 24th with 1.3/09 in women 18-49, up +8% and  best since the week ending July 31.

As for The Bold and the Beautiful, CBS reports that the series also showed an increase averaring 3,700,000 million viewers, up +5% from last week and its largest weekly audience since the week ending August 14th.  Among women 25-54, the daytime drama averaged 1.5/09, up +7% and 1.0/07 in women 18-49, up +11%, highest in both demos since the week.

So what do you think about the performances during the key Sweeps week for Y&R and B&B? Share your thoughts on their current stories that are making you tune-in, via the comment section below!

Well I doubt the Hilary/Devon/Neil story had anything to do with these numbers, I have to flip the station whenever they are on because this story is getting as long and senseless and boring as the music box story Jill and Colin endured.

But I did enjoy the Victor Adam story — not sure about the Sharon story, this is her third baby kidnapping story– when Adam stole her baby, when someone stole Mariah from her so she didn’t know Cassie had a twin, and now someone is giving her a stolen baby. But if this gets her back into Adam’s orbit if Christian is his child then all for it.

I really really think it’s Michael E Knight’s announced and heavily promoted appearance which generated ratings.
But he’s barely been on–it feels like bait and switch. Please give MEK a good, solid, front burner storyline and the high ratings will be sustained.

It’s possible because whenever a soap vet with a large fan base comes back to daytime they do bring some of those fans to that soap even if they never watched it before. I don’t think MEK was meant to be on long term so they didn’t really have a history or a long term plan for his character. But I believe they are having him stick around longer than intended but not sure for how much longer. If the character stays on they will have to back peddle and find a way to connect him to the larger canvas. But you’re right — lumping him with the lame Neil/Devon/Hilary story line certainly hasn’t given him much a chance to shine.

awe shucks! I really hoped; with fans

That Y&R give Ashley and Dr. MEK’ character a go … why couldn’t she be at the hosp… as she’s having a brain scare… an aneuryism… of sorts… just to bring these two together

Eileen Davidson delivers comedic timing as well as through the roof drama.. and shares her screen time and escalates all those with

just knowing that MEK wants this as much as we’d like…

i’d tune in

I like Y&R since Pratt..
but-

”baby Christian, supposedly dying, and grieving parents Nick (Joshua Morrow) and Sage (Kelly Sullivan) falling apart”
Really? there was not much about that to grab people in, baby death..

”Victor (Eric Braeden) confronting Adam (Justin Hartley) that he is the baby daddy”
LOL that was a 2 minute scene that had no impact/ no story..

”the doctor who is up to no good who is duping Sharon (Sharon Case)
That may interest some but it rather boring and not seen as a hot story..

”Neil/Hilary/Devon story (Kristoff St.John/Mishael Morgan/Bryton James)
kidding? they are total snooze and yucky and annoying Devon..

What brought in people imo-
the action, fire disaster and it’s aftermath, and Adam going to prison..
they want to see Adam set free and Ian caught.
and all to pay for what they all did to Adam by accusing him, not believing him.
It is the action, not the couples (Hillary n Devon) the couples are total bore.
Also.. the AMC fans wanted to see Tad/Michael Knight….
And Pratt is giving intrigue..

Hi Su,
I agree. I find this storyline disgustingly dehumanizing. No, the baby may have not been hurt, but it takes a real monster to even conceive such a diabolical act. What’s with these writers? This is not entertainment.

Hmmm although I watch B&B, I’m not bothered if I miss it. I’m actually surprised there is an increase in viewers. At best, since the Myron/Maya reveal, this show has been ok. I’m wracking my brain trying to figure out what would cause the increase. The excitement of Y&R resulting in another 1st place position is no surprise. This week is a titch slow but of the remaining daytimers it is by far the most enjoyable. NBC and ABC are drowning in boredom. DOOL has seen a rise only because of Bo and Patch but at the same time are killing off good characters, Bo to be next. GH well it’s an hour killed while I wait for Y&R

There’s no accounting for the low brow taste of the American public. If they lap this trash up, this show will just be in the tank for the foreseeable future. So sad.

Why are you here dissing people? You have to watch if you have an opinion.

Sheila, I read this comment and just laughed. It sounded so much like me twenty years ago.
“But I was so much younger then, I am older than that now.”
Who said that?

I have been Y&R’s cheerleader for the last couple of years, so please know my criticism is well deserved. Frankly, despite the great acting, Y&R has been a mess–the stories are badly paced, disjointed plot driven and nonsensical. So much to say with so little time.
However, for example, how on earth is Victor able to blackmail Adam with his idea that Christian is his son? As Adam asserted, both Chelsea and Nick already know that Adam slept with Sage and could possibly have been the father. How would this news shake the very foundation of Adam and Chelsea’s relationship? Adam already fessed up. Also, this whole mess with Ian Ward is driving me insane (and we all know that is a short drive for me).
Because those idiots were not able to find the remains of Ian in the rubble of the Newman Towers this means that Adam was lying about seeing Ian dressed as Satan lording over the fire and the ruins of his big plan? Um, Paul, Jack and Phyllis told you that Patty was pinned under a soda machine with flames engulfing her when they left her, and yet, her remains were not found either. I keep waiting for SOMEONE to point that out but not one ever does. Paul is just coming off as an idiot lately and his wife is the official crypt keeper.
Who would have thought Little Miss Cricket, former perky and prim teen model for Jabot, would become Little Miss Crypt Keeper?
Man, she is a drag and I will be happy to never lie eyes on her again–that joyless f–!
Meanwhile, I hate this baby storyline with a passion put to use. Please end it soon. Sharon Case deserves so much better than the crap they keep throwing at her. And yet, she keeps rising to the occasion.
I am now going to say something positive–I now like Sage. Kelly Sullivan has proven herself once again and has fleshed out this character in such a way as to make her both complex and yet, sympathetic.
She is an amazing actress. Moreover, I like her paired up with Adam more than I like her with Nick or Adam with Chelsea.
Okay, there is my feedback for what it is worth

Harry, you have read my mind. As Mary SF has said, this stupid quadrangle (Hilary, Devon, Neil, Gwen) has become unwatchable. What a ridiculous storyline. Neil has serious issues. Gwen? How pathetic can a woman get? For shame. They all need a dose of what the psychiatrist is giving Sharon and walk around as Zombies…..much more entertaining.
There’s nothing more to add to your eloquently written synopsis of the inane and insane lives inhabiting Genoa City.
I can’t even discuss Cricket…She sickens me. She is one angry broad….as my grandfather would say. Lol. To think that not too long ago she was all gung-ho; up and about; fire in her eyes against Phyllis. Does this virago need a victim to give her life meaning?
And, here I thought that the Adam/Chelsea/who hit Delia was the IT storyline ….never happened. Instead, this story has veered to a road of no return. So now, he is getting beat up in prison, by the guard? Or inmates? Are we to feel pity? Are our hearts supposedly opening? Really? C’mon. Victor needs a brain transplant, Billy needs to get the heck out before someone grabs him by his toupee, …..and so on and so forth. Honestly? I don’t know how this soap has maintained such high ratings on such precipitous ground!
Sage is killing it! It is somewhat difficult for me to watch. Too close to home. I had already figured that the crazy doctor would take Christian and that the nurse was in on it. Realistically, it is not that simple to pull something like that off, not this day and age……so, they all live in lalaland. What smarts is that TPTB expect us to buy all this stuff. Yes, it’s a soap, and nonsense is part of the genre. But, Holy Toledo! How many times can they circulate the same spiel?
All I can say is;…poor Sharon. Give this character and actress a break. She’s also doing a stellar job and it irks me to no end how she is perennially kept in the background. We are given the illusion that Sharon is a front and center character, but she really is not! She seems to be everyone’s scapegoat.
I think I did point out how Patty and Ian were stuck under under whatever rubble, but somehow they found each other and fled fled together to create havoc. Chuky and his bride? How? I thought Patty was making strides by leaps and bounds?…had her wits about her by trying to help Sharon. ‘They’ ruined her, again.
Something else that bothers me is why Jack and Phyllis are believed that they saw Patty, yet no body, no remains. So, why is Adam not believed? Not even his own father believes him. Sweet!
I seem to remember that neither Jack nor Phyllis are such upstanding citizens. Jack did some beastly things in his day, as much as Phyllis. But, hey; TPTB expect us to have short memories.
All I ask is a storyline with some sense…..something plausible. This is my favorite show, but the bosses are crippling it.
At this point, I do not care who call me whiner or that I’m bitching. What can I say…I’ll keep watching!
The bright light is seeing Sophie Pollono (Delia) in the Bush’s baked beans commercial. She’ s sooooo cute, with her little pigtails.

As usual, Cee Cee’s comment is pitch perfect.
Now, you might recall (not that I am so self-centered as to think anyone remembers what I have previously posted) that I detested Sage.
I happily stand (or sit?) corrected. Kelly Sullivan has really risen to the occasion and reached down inside of herself to pull out something so real and so true that we can all feel the pain of the void which was left behind.
I was wrong about Sage and wrong about Kelly Sullivan, and happy to admit it.
That’s the good part about growing old.
I have a feeling that I would get along just fine with your grandfather.

Not a whiner nor a bitcher— your dissertation speaks volumes for we loyal fans! I could not have said it any better, Cee Cee!

I was not a fan of Sage– but, boy, she makes PAIN so believable. And, I cannot handle this story at all and it is because she makes it so painfully realistic. Bravo to her.

I don’t really care for the Dr. Neville storyline, but I do think he’d make a great catch for Ashley. She was married to a doctor once before (the 80s? or early 90s? Steven Lassiter.)

Harry and Ron:
Thank you for understanding what I try to impart. It means a lot. Happy Sunday.

Hey Harry…….love me some Bob Dylan any day. Can you beat 68 yrs?

Harry, Cee Cee, Ron you all speak for me, too. I’m not even a long time Y&R viewer and I’m having a hard time with what they keep doing to Sharon. Then there’s Lily, Christine, Neil &family, one catastrophe after another (some repeats), all of the sad/tragic stories that revolve around babies/kids…and Ian Ward. For some reason I kinda like him popping up now and then, more because I love Ray Wise, certainly not Ian. As an aside, I finally got first season of the original “Twin Peaks” with Ray from the library. Let’s just say, he has a knack for playing these very strange characters. Think TPs is about as unreal and convoluted as any soap. And for su0000, very daaaark.

Hello, I am retired and a young at heart, I have watched the Y&R and B&B for many years. I try to watch
A couple days a week. I wish the story line would not so long! The baby taken from the hospital is alive.
Please bring him back to his mother and Adam needs to know that it is his son.

Thomas is a man who preys one women with no regard to others. I hope he finds out he is the baby’s
daddy

Congrats to CP and JFP. While they’re version of Y&R has its share of detractors, the ratings tell something completely different. As for me, I’ll always prefer the Bill Bell storytelling but at least the current regime keeps me watching with their hit and miss stories.

Well this isnt a surprise. What about GH and Days?

Days has it’s own article for ratings now.

For the last few weeks only a few ratings stats have been shared, very little information is actually shown. Where is the complete breakdown of ratings for all 4 soaps? Last week when you “rag” writers released information, it was scarce and actually Y&R ratings were down week to week. Most pepple understand that you are on the CBS payroll and promote as asked but it is frustrating seeing writers play with words and mislead people. Do you read any comments that viewers post? A huge # are very negative about the storylines on Y&R, talk about not watching just reading spoilers. Seems like the only bright spot that viewers talk about are Adam and Chelsea and there are several spoilers letting the viewers know the writers plan to break them up. Expect Y&R”s ratings to tank. Viewers are sick and tired of the writers destroying every couple, especially one that viewers consider yo ge their favorite. When will viewers ever count?

Omg this show is so bad. I cannot believe the numbers went up. I guess people tuned in to see the 4 people that died. Oh wait they didn’t. This show is such crap. There is not one couple I like or one character.

Press release information is spin. Show me real number comparisons to last *year*, not just last week. The weekly ups & downs are not worth reading about unless they are part of a larger trend, like GH’s downward trend that lasted 6 weeks.

Reporting on B&B’s ratings is a waste of time. I’ll paraphrase. But, as Bradley Bell put it, the show would stay on the air even if U.S. ratings went into the toilet because their int’l revenue alone makes money for CBS.

Sage baby not dead…duh

Jim–it’s a reversal of fortune, so to speak.
Remember when Adam stole Sharon’s baby and gave it to Ashely, who had miscarried?
I hate this baby story so much and the only way it can be bearable is if they end it fast. It’s horrible–Sage and Sharon deserve better.

I agree…its a little too much…on a brighter note i find myself watching and liking this show more!

SURPRISE !!!! A real shocker, huh.. lol

I wish the lottery was as easy and predictable like these soaps!…lol

Well we did all see that coming from a mile away, but at least they had decency to let the child live, but I do always find it tedious watching characters mourn a death when we know no one has really died. But as said above, if the baby turns out to be Adam’s this will at least bring Adam back into Sharon’s life– I’ve hated how the writers have ignored the long history between these two characters. I think Sharon and Adam had one scene together and no one has told her yet that Adam is alive– it is disgraceful.

I don’t mind stories being repeated on soaps but why do the same stories happen to same characters. Nick is now involved in another is this child mine or not story. How many stolen babies stories has Sharon been involved in. Dylan is going to be raising another child thinking it is his, only to find out its Adam’s, just like with Connor. Jack was involved with three double stories that I can remember. Lauren is the one who always stalked by some crazy person and Neil’s wives are always sleeping with someone related to him or vice versa. If they are going to do a similar story done in the past they should at least have it done with a different set of characters — and that is why these predictable outcomes are so laughable.

Mary, YES! I so do agree. Why is Sharon not even being told that her good friend Adam is still alive?

I remember the good old days of soap telling when characters died and stayed dead and we mourn the loss of the character as if a member of our own family…we arent able to get that invovleed anymore and i think that hurts soaps today…we cant feel for the characters like we used to!

It has been good lately. For me, that is due to Adam. I hope Victor will not let Adam rot in jail. The viewers certainly need him out of jail.

Someone needs to reel Dylan in though. I was glad Paul finally told him he’s not a cop, but he still asked him for advice on the case. Dylan should get PI license. I guess Esther is running the coffee shop in between visiting Chloe at the nuthouse.

If you dumb it down, they will watch!

Not a surprise. This is the best soap of all and it just keeps getting better. I wouldn’t want to be M.C.E.(Chelsea or J.H Adam Newman) the pressure these two are under would be horrible. They are the show and as far as I’m concerned they are the reason the ratings are as high as they are.

This whole “who’s your baby daddy”, is getting OLD !!!!!! Hate the triangles involving parents and their adult children…been there…done that with Hilary !!!!! Love Adam and Jack’s friendship/Dad relationship. Please end this whole Hilary storyline NOW !!
Thank goodness for FF on my remote. Stop duplicating story lines so closely together. Adam, Chelsea, Nick, Sage, and Noah and Marissa keep me watching !!!!

The Newman Towers fire, Adam and Chelsie, Sharon’s drugging by her doctor is what kept me interested. I FF through the rest.
On B&B, my FF turns a 30 minute snooze fest into 5-8 minute show. The only lights in that tunnel are Steffy and Liam, and Bill and Katie. Caroline and faux Ridge make me cringe – she looks like his daughter and he needs a makeover. Please let the baby be Thomas’.

The baby swiching story is off the wall not good, theHilary story I could do without, the only that rate anything is the Adam&Chelsea storyline, also him going to prison and the way Victor tries to put the baby daddy story in on him, he is not the DADDY. Some one check the writers they need a lesson on how to write.

That rating is nothing to be happy about it was during the fire disaster at NE, and was a waste of time. All we got after that week was over was more of the same story lines with Adam still under a dark cloud, Sharon still being victimized, Sage being propped up by Nick which is sicken, Victor wins, Paul being clueless chief of police, Dylan in every story lines, Sage again on every day while Sharon on once a week if we are lucky to see her. Nobody died in that fired it was all a lie to get people to watch YR. Guess JFP and CP made an idiot out of all of us. Next time they have a disaster or used PR tricks to get us to watch yet another stupid story line, most of us the long time audiences will not fall for their tricks. They do it because they know they write crappy for YR and only supporting their friends like Steve Burton as Dylan, Kelly Sullivan as Sage and Hunter King as Summer. Till the CBS executives wise up and fire Jill and Chuck YR will soon see a fall in rating and when fans and critics finally make more noises they’re fed up with Sharon being victimized and used to prop up characters like Sage and Dylan. They can start by making Sage the hit and run driver and get rid of her and Jill and Chuck. Bring back Josh Griffith as the head writer and executive producer. The reason why he did that awful paternity story line where Sharon got blamed for the switch was because of Jill. Soon as Josh was fired Jill brought in her right hand Chuck knowing he would ruined any characters so she can prop up her friends. They think they’re smart but audiences like me got their number. Will not watch YR any more till they’re gone.

I hated every minute of Friday’s episode.

These writers drive me nuts. I do an awful lot of hand-waving as a soap fan but get a clue… Genoa City is in Wisconsin. They are not Cubs fans or Bears fans. I guess these LA. idiots have never heard of the Green Bay Packers or the Milwaukee Brewers. GAAAH!!!!
